This book is an excellent reference book for anyone interested in the martial arts. The author explains in great detail all of the elements involved in speed, including movement speed and reaction speed just to name a few, as well as drills and exercises to increase one's speed. The drills are beneficial for beginners as well as experts. This book would make a great addition to anyone's bookshelf, especially a martial arts instructor's. Speed Training for Martial Arts and MMA: How to Maximize Your Hand Speed, Boxing Speed, Kick Speed and Power, Punching Speed and Power, plus Wrestling Speed and Power for Combat and Self-Defense

When I picked up this book, I was amazed at all the detail, training and self control that went into Martial Arts. I thought a few moves, a few kicks and you were on your way. I figured it was an accelerated exercise plan with self control. Never again, I was interested in the various techniques and how the author broke down the language and the moves to show how each step in the journey is important and how they build on each other. The drills are not just for expert Martial Arts hobbyists or contenders. There are drills for beginners to the advanced level. I thought this was a nice move so the book would be a nice reference and workbook at the same time covering all levels. The author, J. Barnes writes Speed Training for Martial Arts; How to Maximize Speed for Competition and Self-Defense from a twenty year history of teaching and training tin this field. He shares quite a bit of knowledge in this arena that if you are interested in attempting then you almost cannot afford not to pick up this book. It is worth the time and money and you will have it around for a long time.

Excellent book. It is will be a great resource for improving ones speed. I have past martial arts history but have taken many years off. After picking up this book I was able to dust off my skills and hone in on improving my speed. As someone with experience I feel it was a beneficial book, with easy to understand and follow exercises.

Author J. Barnes taps into his more than 20 years of experience in mixed martial arts in Speed Training for Martial Arts: How to Maximize Speed for Competition and Self-Defense, a guide to advanced training methods, instructions, and drills to maximize one's speed and reflexes. Written in plain terms for readers of all backgrounds and all martial arts styles, Speed Training for Martial Arts is highly recommended supplemental resource for anyone serious about honing their self-defense skills for any reason, from personal protection to professional safety to improved tournament performance.

"Speed Training for Martial Arts: How to Maximize Speed for Competition and Self Defense" by J. Barnes is a must have for anyone interested in or practicing the martial arts. The author is very knowledgeable in his area and his expertise shows in his writing. Having a grandson that studies Martial Arts I thought this book would be helpful to him and after reading it, I know it will be. If you are interested in Martial Arts or know someone that is, this book will be a great asset to their book collection.

Barnes is a very knowledgeable author. I was very impressed by his book "Speed Training for Martial Arts" Martial Arts is an art that I find very interesting but it always seems so complex. Self discipline, speed and how to handle an attacker are all the topics I was interested in learning about. Most books contain very complex information, in a language that I am not familar with. This author is onbviously very very knowledgeable but he realizes that his readers are searching for different levels of information. The novice to the expert will all take away a lot from this very educational book.

Speed Training for Martial Arts by J. Barnes was a surprising book. I am not a trained martial artist but was curious about the title. The book was much more informative than I could have imagined. Reading the book was and is enjoyable. I learned things that I can apply to my lifestyle now.

J. Bode breaks down what he calls the "Speed Loop" into distinct areas. In separate chapters he goes into the benefits of each area and its importance. He also provides real world activities for each area.

There are several activities that people could do alone and activities that should be done in pairs. Some of the activities use everyday items. The other activities use items readily available at a gym.

My daughter-in-law was a kick boxer in her younger years. We discussed some of the techniques and activities described in the book and she was impressed with them. She already knew some of them and had used them.

Other activities were totally new and interesting to her. None of the activities were hard in and of them selves but were designed to develop sensitivity in a unique way. My daughter-in-law even remarked she planned to buy the book. She wanted to have her own copy and I did not plan to give her mine.

The direction given by the author on the difference between speed in demonstration and speed in real battle situations was invaluable. The book will give the experienced martial artist an edge. It will also give the beginning martial artist activities to vary his routine and which will give him an edge over the typical beginner.

The book shows the difference between the sensitivities of a martial artist and a street fighter. It leads a person through what is necessary to learn to be superior over a street fighter. A person with no fighting skills at all could and is benefitting from the information presented. This book will be a good addition to your bookshelf, but you will want to refer to it over and over. - Exercise - Fitness - Speed - Martial Arts Books'
