Pc Vga To Tv Converter
This is an ok video converter, but if you're looking to play video on your TV and have it look the same as it would on your computer, you'd probably be better off getting a nice video card with a TV-OUT port.(or just moving your monitor into the living room) The recommended use on the Startech website is presentations, which it would excel in if you have a large television. The problem with playing video on your PC to your TV it is that the picture 'folds' over itself every once in a while, like a flipbook with a couple pages missing every once in a while. The length of the cords that they include also remind me that I bought this thing for all the wrong reasons. Your television must only be six feet away from your computer(which is not true in the average home). The remote included is tiny(about the size of a letter opener) and the buttons are not easy to press. And believe me, you'll need the remote: every time you plug it in you need to adjust the V and H positions and stretches. Also it is a weak infrared remote, meaning you must practically be 5 feet away for it to give a signal. And forget about putting sound through, it's only for video. Also, when you hook your monitor up through the monitor port on this thing, it gives out a very degraded signal that makes your monitor look like it has a thin layer of fog and bars in front of it. But for the price its ok: it gives out crisp, full color conversions on your television and the fact that you need no software is a huge plus. This converter is definitely not for playing video games. But it does a great job of converting video from your computer (I use my laptop) to the tv. I have it connected to a 42" and it looks great. Just watched a tv show from Hulu and it was great.
This unit is great if you don't want to add a card to your pc. I use it mainly for video from internet to a 32" TV. The picture is very sharp and clear. The size adjustments work very well. If your looking for very high resolution you may want to spend more mony on a pc upgrade or video card.
I just ordered this and tried it out using my laptop and large screen projection TV in my subdivision clubhouse. It is the perfect solution to conducting training and powerpoint presentations without the need for an expensive PC projector. Easy setup and operation. Only complaint is the short monitor cable and composite cable. I highly recommend this product.
Definitely a decent product. It did what we needed it to do. Be careful, though, this won't magically convert your computer image to a high-def image appropriate for a large screen showing. You'll, for the most part, get your computer image at its native resolution up on a screen or tv. In that regard, it works quite good.
I found it fairly easy to set up despite the instructions being pretty light. The few buttons aren't readily obvous as whether they should be 'in' or 'out' for your application. The connections ARE obvious. Hook it up, plug it in and it should work. The build quality is a bit light but not bad. The remote works and is fairly useful. I liked the zoom features and the screen adjustment features on the remote. They were quite useful.
For the price, I found it to be a decent buy.
My unit -- I've discovered too late -- has an internal ground circuit problem. It puts intermittent bands on any pass-through VGA and on the converted RCA composite output. The "dirty" output is so bad, I'll have to replace this. I'm stunned Startech would release such a cheaply-made product. Very disappointed. Wish I could send it back for a refund.
I bought this after initially buying one of the $29.00 ones and being horrified by the picture reproduction. This so called high definition converter is absolutely no improvement over the cheap one it might be even worse. The picture is horribly blurry so even ordinary size print is unreadable. The color reproduction is horrrendously poor a blue backround from your computer monitor is tourquise on the tv. The menu display dissapears if you do not use one of the function within A FEW SECONDS then you have to start over. EXCEEDINGLY ANNOYING. I could not get a signal from the s-video I didn't bother to see if the problem was a defective cable that came with it. If you wan't to get one of these converters get a cheap one for Pete's sake don't waste your money on this one. If you have a PC a video card with s-video out is the way to go. I don't know what the solution is for a laptop.
The StarTech PC/VGA to TV converter performs as advertised! The learning curve is not bad and takes someone with an understanding of electronics this is definitely not a device I would advise a NOVICE with no back ground in using moderate to complex connects and settings to purchase. That said I was very happy with the conversion process it very accurately converted PowerPoint files, flash player files and others extremely well.'
