Graphing Calculator - texas instruments, ti-83

If you are a high school student, then this calculator is for you. It has everything you need, for algebra, precalculus, and calculus. The good thing about the 83+ is that it is upgradable, so the need for a new calculator doesn't arise, every few years. Purchasing a graph-link can add on a TREMENDOUS amount of programs to use for Physics, Geometry, and even 3D-Graphs, (previously only on the ti-89 and up). If you are in High School, do NOT get the ti-92 or ti-89, because they will probably be banned from standardized tests, and high math classes, so ask your math teacher, because they are too hard to use and understand. Also, these 2 calculators are aimed for more college-level students, so if you are in college, try the ti-89. But in every case, a ti-83+ is ideal! Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator

Texas Instruments produces some of the most popular and well known graphing calculators in the industry. The TI-83 plus can do most any math problem found in Algebra I, Geometry, and even some Algebra II/Trigonometry. The wide screen allows for graphing equations and multi-line functions.The graphing capabilities of the TI-83+ are a superb choice for Algebra I classes. The ability to automatically find intersections and a variety of other important components of a graph are only key presses away.The calculator has a powerful matrix editor allowing for easy multiplication, addition, and subtraction of matrices. Division of matrices is not possible. The list editor allows for statistical analysis of data both numerically and graphically. Graphically, the 83+ can plot data in several different formats.Anyone who is familiar with the BASIC computer language can program the TI-83+ with ease. The calculator supports the use of almost every function through a program. Programs can be typed directly into the calculator, or on a computer. The TI-83+ also supports a special form of programs called Flash Applications. Flash Applications are generally quite complex, and are written in a special language on the computer. The manual included with the calculator is superb. It goes into detail on every single option the calculator supports. Every section includes a Quick Start tutorial that provides an practical example covering many of the chapter's topics. It comes in several variations depending on what kind of computer it will be hooked to. The cable is not included with the calculator, but can be purchased as an option. The TI-83+ Silver Edition includes a Black Link cable for Windows PCs.When the TI-83+ is outgrown, upgrading the TI-89 will require little work for anyone who has gained experience with TI's entry level graphing calculator. The TI-89 has the capability to do Calculus and 3-Dimensional graphs primarily.Overall, the 83+ is an excellent choice for anyone taking an Algebra course or any math class above that. The calculator does basic arithmetic, graphic, statistics, matrices, and a variety of other mathematical operations.

If you are thinking of using this calculator for Algebra, Geometry, basically any straight math, especially Calculus, DON'T. That is not to say it won't work, just that there are better things out there, namely the TI-89. The 89 is somewhat more expensive, but, in my opinion and experience, it is far superior for these applications. A few reasons: easier to get the results from previous entries, support for derivitives and integrals, and the higher resolution looks better and lets you put more on the screen at one time, as well as allowing more symbols. However, if you are planning on using the calculator for Statistics, get the 83, because, for some unknown reason, the TI engineers declined to put ANY suppport for stats on the 89, but the 83 is great at it. I have owned TI calculators for many years, and I have never experienced any quality or production problems with them and have never had any of them break except when treated REALLY badly, such as having very heavy, blunt objects dropped on the screen, and I do tend to use mine pretty hard.

I don't recommend spending $100 on a calculator if you don't really need it. Being a college student taking a Statistics class, I was forced to buy the TI-83. I am very happy with it and the various things you can do with it. If you do buy the TI-83 (which I recommend), you should definitely purchase the Graph-Link cable to go along with it. The cable allows you to download various programs and even some cool games from the Internet.

The calculator is fine for school use, up through college as long as you're not majoring in math, physics, or something that motivates a top level device (such as the HP4* or TI89). One major benefit with the 83+ is that it's so common that most teachers know how to use it, many classmates will too, and there is tons of apps and info about it online.However, this isn't really why I'm writing here. I want you all to take a good look at many of the reviews. Especially the five-star ones that say "this is the only calculator you'll ever need!!!", "buy now before it gets too expensive!!", "the Ti83+ is everything you'll ever need and more!!" Notice how they are all from anonymous posters, correctly spelled (a dead giveaway) and well articulated? I swear it breaks my heart that these type of reviews from "users" can't be trusted anymore. It's a fact that resellers and manufacturers actually pay people to write up their products on web boards and commerce sites such as Amazon.Don't trust the ratings or the reviews here. Anything will work for three to six months. What then? That's the dynamic message I got from Dan's book. Oh, there was a lot more here. But I generally take one or two new and interesting ideas from a book --- assuming it's a good book. And this one is.

Dan's book is really a collection of essays. They're not in any particular order. I say that because he mentions his fat period twice --- once in the early part of the book and again towards the end. Both are written in the time he is recovering from his fatness.

But that doesn't take away from the messages of the book.

Dan believes in making things simple. Not easy, he says. But simple. I like that idea more and more as I get older. It makes more sense for anyone. Our lives are already far too confusing and full and rushed and out of control.

Dan recons we should focus on our main goal and plan our activities, our workouts and exercises accordingly. If you want to lose weight, you must follow different activities than someone who wants to get power or strength or run a marathon, for example.

Again, this makes sense and simplifies things for us. This is the way Bruce Lee was able to be so great in martial arts. He tried many things and discarded the things that didn't work or didn't help him in his main persuit --- his goals for his unique purposes.

I find this idea empowering. And you'll find it in abundance in Dan's new book.

While you might think the book is written for weight lifters or bodybuilders, it's really for anyone who wants to get fit.

Some of it you may discard. You may find parts of it just don't apply to you. But there is enough encouragement and no BS information in the book that you'll thoroughly enjoy it and come away the wiser. You'll profit with more useful workouts that actually get you to your goal.

Dan cuts through the myths and the outright lies we see in advertising and muscle mags and gets to the heart of the matter. He tells it like it is. And since he's not a young man, we know he's probably tried it all and seen most of it and is well equipped to give you honest solutions.

Buy this book if you need encouragement in your training and fitness program. Moreover, buy it if you want to learn how to cut through the BS and get to the real meat of how to get from where you are to where you want to be.

Everything I know about lifting, I learned from Dan John.

There's been a lot written about Dan John lately. It's reassuring to see him getting his due, because here's a man who's walked the walk, his whole life, and is still smiling and enthusiastic about his passions. He's genuine.

I've known Dan for a while now. We met online in 1999 or 2000, and corresponded frequently, in email and on assorted message boards and in the occasional phone call. In 2007 I finally got to meet him, twice, both out in Utah and at Denison University in Ohio. I consider him a friend, and knowing him has much enriched my life.

I held off writing this bit until I'd gone through his book a few times. It's hard not saying what other folks have said: Dan's down-to-earth voice and advice cuts through noise and is pure signal, Dan's a humble genius. Dan's a coach's coach. Dan's gently scathing humor draws our attention to the realities of life and lifting and competition.

I can't match the eloquent and descriptive phrases such luminaries like Pavel Tsatsouline and Dave Draper and others have used to describe Dan's contribution to the written word of the Iron Game. I can only say that it's good. It's excellent. It's humbling to me personally. Explaining why is difficult, if not impossible.

If you buy one book about training, hell, if you buy one book about life, this year, or this even decade, make it Dan's book. You might not 'get it' yet. That's OK. You will.

Superb information presented in a clear, highly readable style. He provides an unbiased look at everything from weight training to goal setting. The author is refreshingly self effacing. The book is written as a series of semi-connected essays (originally written as individual articles) and there's not a clunker in the bunch. He's given me a ton of new ideas for my own training. Great stuff.

I only have about 50 pages to go, and I can't wait to start the book again! This is, beyond a doubt, the best book I have ever read - EVER! Filled with the most sensible, logical, yet often mis-understood information for health, training, recovery, and strength - this book is worth its weight in gold. Don't ever try to compare this book to anything else you have ever read - there is nothing that comes close. Open the book, pick one, out of any of the chapters, do the program in that particular chapter - as Dan says, and you will be a better person, in more ways than one. Get it - it really is that good!

I've read hundreds of exercise/weightlifting books. Not only is this book a joy to read, it has some of the best and most useful information on lifting available. Defintely in the top 10, of the best books on lifting ever written!

If you know Coach Dan John at all, then you will know that what he writes is worth reading. You might have seen the online download "From The Ground Up". This book, derived largely from his posts on Tnation and so on, is a compendium packed full of no-nonsense information. It is very well-written, every section has something you can implement, and his focus on old-fashioned hard work is just what we need as an antidote to much of modern so-called fitness writing. But more than this, the lessons in the book are I feel universal, and the subtitle is not at all pompous or pretentious. The lessons contained in this volume are applicable to so much of life. I had a copy rushed to me from the US, and cannot recommend it too highly. As a companion to Marty Gallagher's "Purposeful Primitive" and the books by Pavel Tsatsouline, this book is in good company. Toy Story in 3D? I knew they were going to release this! Yes, I already got a Toy Box, but this is a MUST BUY! If you've seen both Toy Story 1 and 2 in 3D in the theathers back in '09, then this is exactly like it. Yes, 3D is the future and even if you can't see it in 3D right now, this will still become in handy later on! Also, if you still haven't gotten a Toy Box yet, I suggest you buy this instead. Toy Story 3d Trilogy [Blu-ray]

Please, Disney, stop re-releasing the same movies over and over again! How many times has this Toy Story trilogy been released recently? By my count, at least 3 times in the last 5 years (for the first two, anyway). Outrageous! This is what I want...

I will pay $50 each for every single Disney/Pixar film created so far. I want Blu-Ray 3D, Blu-Ray 2D, DVD, and Digital Copy all in one package. I also want the maximum amount of bonus features available for each film so that it cannot possibly be outdone by any future release of the title. If this warrants multiple Blu-Rays (such as the 2-Disc release of Wall-E, Up, and Toy Story 3, for example), then make sure that happens! I want this to happen for the following films/releases: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Monster's, Inc., Finding Nemo (RELEASE THIS ONE ALREADY!), The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales, and the Pixar Short Films Collection, Volume 1. I also want future Disney/Pixar movies to be released in a similar fashion.

Here is my problem. I spent a lot of money trying to find all the Disney/Pixar films on Blu-Ray, and some of them have been re-released on Blu-Ray with different covers and everything. So since I am a collector who has to have the newest thing with the most perfect slip covers and what not, I repurchase the movies over and over. Call me stupid; that's legitimate. But many other collectors will agree with me. But you know what really ticks me off? The fact that titles would be released on standard Blu-Ray, only to be outdone by a newer 3D release. It is completely lame, and surely angers those even who are not in this for collecting purposes!

Please do us all a favor and get this out of your system! I will pay top dollar for top notch releases of these movies, and I want to make sure that they do not get released again for at least 5 or so years!

Now, I'm sure those reading this are going to be like, "What does this even have to do with the Toy Story 3D Trilogy set you are supposed to be reviewing?" Well here is my point...I think it is awesome that Disney wants to release the 3 Toy Storys on Blu-Ray 3D. I am rating it at 3 stars to be at a happy medium, because who knows yet whether or not this will totally suck or be completely awesome. But if 3D releases are going to happen to these films, I sure want it to happen for all the others, and then stop! I mean, I thought a 4 Disc ultimate Blu-Ray combo pack was pushing it, but now it has gone up to 5 discs? Just take a minute to think about this...THERE IS ONLY ONE MOVIE, YET YOU ARE PAYING FOR 5 DISCS OF THE SAME THING? Absurd, right? I think so. I remember the good old days when you could just buy a good Disney/Pixar film on 2 Disc DVD for $20 or less, but now we are paying twice that for movies that are now starting to get old. Now, I'll admit, I do like having the options available with the combo packs. But, 5 discs is approaching the ultimate limit. Therefore, Disney should just get it all done and over with. Cheap Keyboard - logitech, usb keyboard

Finally! A basic keyboard where all the keys are in the right place, the layout is familiar, and my touch-typing fingers don't have to learn anything NEW.

What's with all the wrist rests, bubble shaped gigantic keyboards that take up the whole desk? Give me a basic keyboard that WORKS. Logitech continues the tradition of the basic IBM style keyboards with the logitech K120.

When you're typing for years and years, you get tired of companies switching keys around on you. Some of logitech's other models I had to pass up on because they swapped the Insert/Delete/Page up/Pg DN section and made it vertical. But on this keyboard, everything is proper and right.

The price is right: There's no reason to spend $50 on a keyboard unless you want to use your keyboard 45 feet away from the monitor - which is rather absurd for most uses. (perhaps if you have a 60" LCD TV with your computer hooked up to it). But if you're an old fashioned, sit up close, task-chair (not the dreadful "manager's chair") kind of person, this is the keyboard you want.

It's not fancy. Nothing extra. No wrist rest. No "media keys". No programmable function keys. And thank goodness! The only thing the basic microsoft keyboard has over this is it has the "calculator" button, which would really be cool to have on this. But really, there was nothing wrong with the way keyboards were before, and there's nothing wrong with this one now. I love this keyboard, right out of the box.

It's surprisingly quiet too.

Why did I get this keyboard?

My new netbook (Acer Aspire One) doesn't have any ps/2 ports - which is fine 'cause they're not really used much anymore.

BUT - all of my old keyboards use PS/2 connectors. So while I DID order a PS/2 to USB connector from Amazon - it's going to take a couple of weeks to get here and I didn't want to wait.

And who knows? Perhaps when the connector comes in, my fancy keyboards from yester-years may be overshadowed by this new, basic, no-nonsense, works instantly keyboard that I picked up for $12. Logitech Keyboard K120

I needed a new keyboard as we have our computer in the bedroom, and the old Dell model was driving me crazy when I was trying to sleep and my wife was typing up email after email...

I went with this model as it has the insert/delete keys in the standard set up, unlike the 'Classic' Logitech model. It is quiet and I expect it to work reliably for a long time.

This keyboard is a good purchase for the money, has good key response, layout and size, and thats about it.

Pro's

Con's

slightly cheap / flimsy feeling plastic

the "legs" on the bottom are cheesy and easy to accidentally collapse or break off.

This keyboard is extremely low priced compared to the many media and gaming ones out there. Yes, this lacks the features of macros and media keys, but for the average computer user, who only uses their computer for email, facebook, or typing reviews, this is a very affordable, durable, and quality made product from logitech. The reason why I got this keyboard was to hold off on a more expensive keyboard and mouse set up, but I'm starting to feel that may not be neccessary, because of the great quality of such a low price keyboard. The only con I can think of is that the keyboard does not really have a palm rest, but for about $5 you can buy one. This keyboard is great for computer owners on a budget, and functions just like you would expect from a logitech product.

There is a lot to like about this keyboard: Well-made, standard key layout (not so easy to get with logitech!), great mid-rise keys (noise and feel between high-rise and laptop style), and an unbelievably reasonable price.

The only thing I could wish for is a built in, sturdy, quality wrist rest like the dinovo for notebooks.

Finally a nice, solid feeling keyboard with all of the keys situated in the right place for typing fast! And this keyboard feels really solid and quality too. Not to mention that it is very quiet. It reminds me of an old Keytronic keyboard I used to have that cost about 5 times as much. No word on the longevity, but I'm hopeful it will last long, as it feels really good and solid and has low typing effort. It's also got a very small footprint with none of those extra keys nobody ever uses! I would highly recommend this keyboard.

My old keyboard have some keys sticking. So I decided to buy a new one. After browsing the candidates in Amazon.com, I finally selected this one. This keyboard has a relatively low price but still has good quality. When I type with this keyboard, it is very quiet and no much noise is produced. The only thing I am not very satisfied with is that the keystroke seems to be a little bit short.

I was looking for a quiet but functional keyboard for late night typing. I'm a touch typist who does a lot of work late at night and my main Logitech Wave keyboard is very loud. I was interested in this Logitech K120, and a Siig was also of interest. Both are offered here on Amazon, but I went to a local computer chain store and found both on display, which allowed me to test out the feel and sound of the keyboards.

The Siig JK-US0012-S1 is the better of the two. It's quieter than this Logitech and has a slightly better feel. It was also a similar price (Actually a couple of dollars cheaper in store) than the Logitech K120.

If you are a touch typist who types fast, both keyboards are still going to make noise, period. But Logitech advertises the K120 keyboard as "whisper quiet", and that's not accurate at all.

Having grown weary of endlessly replacing batteries in my wireless keyboard, I decided to return to a old-school, USB keyboard. Actually, this keyboard was the SECOND attempt to replace the wireless keyboard. My first attempt was purchased from a major computer manufacturer who shall remain nameless (based in Austin, TX). Evidently, the nameless computer manufacturer shipped me a keyboard from the pile labeled 'for perfect typists only' since the backspace key was DOA out of the box.

Disappointed in my first attempt, I turned to Amazon and Logitech to provide a functional keyboard with free second day shipping (I am 'Prime'). Keyboard arrived, keyboard works, life is good.

NB: This is a BASIC keyboard, if you have grown accustomed to multi-media buttons, etc., you will want to upgrade to a more sophisticated model. However, this unit serves its function nicely. - Logitech - Numeric Keypad - Usb Keyboard - Cheap Keyboard'

This is my second book on gift wrapping ideas and it does not disappoint. Lots of wonderful images and great ideas with basic, easy to find materials. If you are looking for a book wth step-by-step instructions this isn't for you, but if you want a multitude of inspiring ideas this book is perfect. All of the designs are simple and are rather staright forward. The only thing I wish there would have been a little more information on would have been some of the interesting pleating he did and some information on sources for materials. Was given Swisa Beauty Body Butter, Dead Sea Body Butter a few years back for Christmas. I fell in love with it. When I gave out, I went on line to search for it. I've done that a couple of times and bought multiple jars each time for fear the next time I would not find it. It is too good not to keep on hand. The fragrance is beautiful and the cream itself is non-greasy and soaks right into the skin. Great product!!!!!

I received a jar of this as part of a gift and was thrilled with the scent and how well it moisturized my legs and arms. The person who gave it to me lives 700 miles away and I was afraid I would have a hard time replacing it. I use it after every shower...I live in Pa. where winters can be cold and dry. I cannot imagine using anything else.

If you want compliments on your soft, healthy skin and the lovely scent that everyone notices, you'll indulge in this body butter. It's the only gift I have to keep my daughters supplied with. We won't use any other kind! Very reasonable Amazon value.

This body butter is a light, non greasy body butter for your skin that lasts all day, and the fragrance is wonderful. I used Aveeno products for years until I discovered this product. I have many allergies, especially excema, and was hesitant to try new products, but this body butter has not affected my skin at all. It also is a much lighter lotion, I feel like my skin can breathe better. I am on my third jar and will continue to use it.

As I was getting ready to go to Hawaii, from Idaho in the middle of the winter, I went looking in my "collection" of leftover creams for something to help my feet. I saw this, which my husband had purchased for me a couple years ago, and it just kinda got lost in our moving, so I threw it in my suitcase. Lead Pencils - pencil, dixon

Out of all of the pencils I have ever bought these have been my favorite. They write really nicely and smoothly, the tip doesn't break or snap as often as other brands.

When you sharpen them they are so much smoother and more durable compared to other brands. Some fo the cheaper pencils keep breaking and you have to sharpen them until you only have half a pencil left. Not these, they make soft grinding noise and sharpen very smoothly.

The eraser is very high quality and doesn't smear or leave marks behind.

Unlike some brands the metal part at the top of these pencils are a lot better quality and don't have sharp edges.

This might seem like a silly thing to review but these pencils really do have a quality difference that sticks out from other pencil brands. Dixon Ticonderoga 13872 Woodcase Pencil, HB #2, Yellow Barrel, 96 per Pack

I was working on costume prop and needed to some pencils to make my marks on the wood. I went to Wal-Mart and saw these amongst there many pencils. The 24 pack was a little over 8 dollars. A bit pricey for pencils. I gave in to the slogan of "Worlds best pencil" and figured I would give them a try. Because like anyone else who has purchased these I was sick of erasers that smudged, lead that broke, wood that was more plastic than wood.I will never buy any other kind of pencil again.

The thing that I like the most is that the eraser actually erases with out smudges. I'm a little heavy handed when I write so there is some residual. The lead doesn't break for no apparent reason. The only time I need to sharpen it is when the lead gets dull or I sit or step on it. They are worth every penny.

One reviewer didn't like them because of the graphite. If you do the dixon website ( [...] ) their online store has different graphite selections.

In my opinion they really are the greatest pencil in the world. Accept no substitutes.

Without a doubt this is the most disappointing item I have purchased in years! I have always bought this brand of pencil because I am a writer and still write in longhand.

I am on my fourth 12-pack (48 pencils) from this case and I have thrown away most of them because the lead breaks as soon as I begin to write.

I have used several different pencil sharpeners and the breakage is the same with all of them.

It is a pity to see such an icon go down the tubes because of poor quality but it has for me. I will never purchase another Ticonderoga product again.

I bought Ticonderoga pencils but had a similar experience with breakage as other reviewers had. More frequently, however, the metal aglet holding the eraser came off as soon as I tried to use the eraser. Aglets flying about the room! It was a sad day.

* 6/2/11 Just wanted to update--I bought more Ticonderogas the other day (pre-sharpened, at Staples), hoping for a better experience--and the lead breaks throughout use. Because of the frequent sharpening required, each pencil lasts only a short time. Still can't rate the product any higher.

Also wanted to update that it's a "grommet," not an aglet, that holds the eraser onto the pencil. I'm sure that you are terribly grateful for the correction.

I'm a second grade teacher and I've had it up to *here* with 'DIXON' pencils.

The only reliable pencils is Dixon Ticonderoga. Everything else is just junk wasting everyone's time and money.

I will only use Ticonderoga pencils in my class.

I bought these pencils for my kiddos, very durable and high quality materials are put into this pencil which now makes it my number one pencil of choice. recommended for kids for it has sort of an antimicrobial something that also makes it the worlds safest pencil against viral diseases. highly recommended

These are great pencils. Period. The construction and quality are great, and the erasers have generally outlasted the pencils themselves. I recommend these pencils to anyone who loves classic writing instruments, and enjoys the rich heritage of the pencil.

I bought this box of pencils last year when I ordered a wall mounted pencil sharpener. With about half the pencils of the box, the second I'd pull the pencil out of the sharpener the lead would fall off. It was so frustrating, considering these are supposed to be such great pencils. I didn't have the same problem with the boxes I'd buy in stores..so perhaps they were damaged during shipping. I don't know. I've used other Dixon pencils, store bought, since then and have had no problems so it's not my sharpener. So..be warned..it could not be worth the price. - Dixon - Eraser - Pencil - Ticonderoga'
