Electronics Warranties - square trade

They took down my first review and it wasn't that bad? So, I'm guessing

they are hiding something from Amazon customers. I wondered if they

would upgrade to a newer model and they will, if the old one is not

available. I would expect an upgrade within a year. I think it pretty crappy

to take down a customer's review and not give them a reason why! They take the time to post it, but Amazon CENSORS it for some obscure reason. Much

like China or Russia. I only gave them 3 stars, for being sneaky. Makes you wonder if they are honest and what they are up to? Hdmi To Component - apple tv, digital to analog

This thing works great! I bought an Apple TV2 and I have an older plasma TV that has no HDMI hook-ups. I tried an HDMI to DVI cable and the only thing the Apple TV2 did was show a white apple logo on a black screen. I knew that I had to get a HDMI to Component converter box to make this work. Most of the converters I saw were in the $200 to $300 range. Most of the cheaper converters got bad reviews. However I took a chance on this one and the chance paid off. This converter was easy to hook up and the picture quality on my Plasma looks awesome. There is also a second HDMI port on the converter so you can connect another HDMI only product to the TV. I have an older 2004 Toshiba 65" HD projection TV. It has always worked well with DVDs and our area finally got HD television service about a year ago. So now we can finally enjoy our HD television for all it's worth. Suddenly after about 6 months of service we started receiving an error message when we turned on the cable TV. "Your HDMI cable does not support HDCP". More recently I purchased an Apple TV2. After a few months and a software update I received the same message. Apple support told me it was because my older TV was not HDCP compliant. The solution would be to buy a new television, but it seemed ridiculous to waste over a thousand dollars for a new set when this older one works fine. This device solved my dilemma. It works well to bridge the gap between old and new technology. Any HDMI device can be hooked up through this box with RCA style component cables and avoid the HDCP problem. Recommended!

When my 10-year-old A/V receiver started to fail, I purchased a new Denon 1911 model that primarily supports HDMI connectivity. My trusty old Mitsubishi CRT RPTV has no HDMI, just component video and/or VGA/RGB. I looked into the HD Fury products and decided not to spend so much money on a solution that may have a short life. Then I found this ViewHD unit at Amazon and the reviews convinced me to try it.

This is working perfectly for me. The picture quality on my 48" HDTV is outstanding: comparing a direct component connection to the TV with an HDMI-to-converter-to-component connection, viewing both simultaneously from my DirecTV HD DVR, I see no visible difference, based on a POP/side-by-side viewing comparison. Even the component out from my non-HDMI DVD player, fed into the component in on my Denon A/V receiver (which upconverts from 480p to 1080i HDMI) and then fed through the converter gives excellent results.

Because all of my audio is managed in my A/V receiver before the HDMI output to the converter/TV, I have not tried nor needed the HDMI to optical conversion. I only use the audio section of the converter to convert PCM digital to L+R analog matrix surround to connect to the TV audio input. When using the powered-off HDMI pass-through feature of my Denon receiver, it automatically converts all digital audio to PCM over the HDMI output to the converter/TV, so we can watch TV without the A/V receiver if we choose to.

I have not used the switchable input feature (don't need it) nor the VGA/RGB output (don't need it either).

So far, I am totally satisfied with this plug and play unit.

I have an older Mitsubishi DLP rear projector that has served me well for various computer presentations when connected using VGA cable to my laptop. Unfortunately, it does not have HDMI inputs so we are forced to use a custom Component-to-VGA cable whenever we want to watch TV/DVD/Blu-Ray movies but found the resolution would drop to 480i but now I can go HDMI Out --> ViewHD HDMI In --> VGA or Component Out and see resolutions as high as 1080i with a very noticeable improvement on quality.

I bought the to use Apple TV2 on my Panasonic Series 7 Plasma. It works great. I highly recommend this product. I bought a cheaper one from amazon trying to save a couple bucks and the picture quality was horrible. The picure quality on the unit is great. Nice and bright. It exceeded my expectations.

Pay no attention to the negative reviews on this product. They are all user error. If you are using this for ATV2 remember that ATV2 only puts out 720p. This product will convert HDMI 720p to component 720p perfectly but if your TV does not support 720p this will not help you.

This device simply works. It accepts HDCP HDMI inputs (1080i in my case) and outputs YPbPr component to my older display that doesn't have HMDI. It prevents my 65" display from forced obsolesce. The display is centered.

I use it to accept outputs from my HTCP (running WMC 7) and my Sony S370 Blu Ray player. I use HDMI (instead of component) from the Blu ray player for two reasons. Primary is the player will upscale DVDs to 1080i via HDMI only, second my old display only has 1 1080i input.

One quirk, and I dont think this is a fault of the ViewHD, more of HDCP at work. If I turn on the Blu Ray player BEFORE I switch to that input on the ViewHD, I get no output. My wife tells me it eventually comes up. I simply cycle power the Blu Ray player and it works.

Only con about this device is the lack of automatic input switching either by source sensing or infared (like the HD Fury 3). Grandted the HD fury is 3x as much. Maybe make the input swtich bigger or further away from the bulky HDMI cables. It's hard to have this device sitting there with all the other gear wtih the HDMI cables sticking out. It can't be hidden if you have to manually switch inputs.

I am not using the optical audio out, so I can't speak to it's performance. It runs cool to the touch.

If you want a more affordable (and available) solution that the HD Fury 3 or Moome EXT, buy this product. Fast shipping, too. I had this product a whole week faster than the HDMI cables I ordered from Amazon via super saver shipping. - Hdcp - Digital To Analog - Hdmi Switch - Apple Tv'

Boombox - portable cd player, good

We have this CD player in our kitchen so that my toddler and I can enjoy his favorite tunes while I'm making dinner or whatnot. He climbs onto the counter and gives this stereo such abuse, and touches all the parts you're never supposed to touch on a CD player, and yet it still works perfectly! I'm really impressed by this machine. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that is does make a quiet electronic "hum" when it's plugged in. It doesn't interfere with the quality of the music at all. But if you're in the room and all else is quiet, you'll notice it. For this reason, we keep it unplugged when we're not playing a CD. My experience with this boombox was horrible. I bought it, it worked fine for the first 4 days, then the cd player got messed up. It wouldn't load my cds, instead, the cds would spin out of control in the player. This boombox is not recommended.

When I was christmas shopping, I thought this looked really cute, and I figured, "Hey, it's cheap, and looks good." So I bought it. It worked pretty well for the first couple of days, and then the CD playing system on it just decided to stop working. I checked all things that I might have possibly done wrong, but I didn't find any. When you try to load the CD, it doesn't let you play anything. I would not recomend this product for whoever wants to buy it, because it did not work like I wanted it to, and it made a pretty lousy Christmas present after I found out it had broken. DON'T BUY THIS.

Alas, it makes a very noticeable hum even when it's OFF! I have to unplug it if I want the noise to stop. Very disappointing.

But if size matters to you, it's worth mentioning that it's surprisingly small, especially in comparison to other portable stereos. It is easy to carry and fits anywhere.

(edit dec08.2006: and now it's incredibly fickle, frequently interrupting a cd with "ERR" or not even playing it at all. i want to replace it, but where are all the red cd players?)

I should have read the reviews closer myself before buying this....mine just inexplicably quit working after only having it a few months. Dont buy this piece of junk...there is a reason it is priced cheap.

I bought this product so my 3 year old son could listen to music before going to sleep in his room. It is terrible. There is a constant hum as long as it is plugged in. The volume of the hum depends on how the power cord is angled at the back of the unit. The CD player never worked right. After a few songs there is a "ER" message on the screen. Most of the time I can't even get it to play a CD. I'm very disappointed. Don't buy this product.

Sadly we received the product broken. It wouldn't play beyond the half way mark of any cd. In requesting a replacement the company returned the money without any comunication. It was rather strange but they refunded the money so one cant't complain.

I know this was not the top of the line radio, but I only needed it to play children's cds for my infant son. The cd player part is broken it will not play cds. The radio part works. With so many desktop publishing books on the market, it's easy to get confused as to quality. The truth is that there's something of knowledge to be gained in just about every book. What's difficult is finding one right for your current level of knowledge-and one that will help you move on in your education. This book will be of such help to at least three distinct types of reader. First, despite the fact that it's not the book's focus, design theory makes its way almost unintentionally onto each page. This isn't a design book, so it doesn't actually _instruct_ you in the art. But the images in the book are competent, generic examples of standard principles of design. If you follow the basic constructs the author offers, you will, perhaps without meaning to, produce work that is suitably well-designed for almost any commercial purpose. Second, the book gives an overview of how to get your designs from idea to computer to paper. It doesn't tell you specifically how to use your particular software or a particular printing company. I'm not sure the word "Adobe" or "Corel" appears anywhere in the text. What it gives you are the steps necessary to create high quality work on a shoestring budget. It gives you information about where to get clip art, how to deal with an illustrator specifically hired for a certain job, what are the most common fonts used in professional applications, how to ensure you're not violating copyright. These are areas that have had relatively minimal coverage in the instructional press, so the somewhat scant attention this book gives is a comparative abundance. In particular, the book has helpful information on how to find a good service bureau for your final output. The notion of contracting with printers in other parts of the country is a concept that will be foreign to a number of readers. It's a common practice to large companies, but this book makes real the possibility for smaller businesses and home enthusiasts. Third, the book reaches people who have a great deal of experience with desktop publishing, but may need a single, unified resources for the multiplicity of "special" projects they infrequently may be called upon to make. How do you make buttons, for instance? How do you label a shipping tube? How do you create a magnetized memo? Who makes baseball caps and can I create my own design for them? Can I really make personalized coasters for my 15th high school reunion? Where can I have personalized Post-It (tm) Notes made? These, and many other "unusual" projects are given great attention in this book. Indeed, this is really the book's focus. The author, Chuck Green, has an obvious passion for personalization. He wants you to know that for any purpose, be it commercial or personal, there's a way to make a great impression that you haven't thought about. In that quest, Mr. Green has used his book to centralize thousands of disparate addresses, phone numbers, and ideas into one location so that you can get started almost immediately. For its modest price it will give you more solid, usable advice than many more expensive, application-specific volumes.And the book doesn't stop with the last page. There's a very cool website associated with the book that will help you continue on in your knowledge. To be sure, you don't need to read the book to access the website, but I think it's a measure of the passion the author has for his subject that he's willing to continue devoting time to it by maintaining an active, growing website. This is no `hack' author trying to cash in on the desktop publishing phenomenon. This is someone who really cares about what he writes and wants to continue giving you the most up-to-date information possible. Despite all this, I think there are groups who might be disappointed with the book. If you already do a lot of specialized jobs for your clients, the ideas may seem quite basic. I think, too, that if you're just printing newsletters or the occasional flyer, you might think this book is full of useless information. But I think that such people are entirely in the minority. This book has a tremendous amount to offer for the even slightly creative. Even if you _thought_ you only did newsletters for your church or flyers for your club, the wealth of information here makes you _want_ to do more and better work than you've done before. And that, I suppose, is the very point of desktop publishing in the first place. The Desktop Publisher's Idea Book, Second Edition

I used this book as a classroom text for a DTP course I was running. The students loved it, not just because it showed sample layouts with good use of contrasting fonts and plenty of white space, but also because the projects were practical and small scale, aimed at someone with a laser printer and office supplies. Green's ideas show that with a couple of quality fonts and classy clip art anyone can potentially do good design. I'd like to see a new edition that takes advantage of the low costs of digital presses, but as it stands the book is inspiring. Note, by the way, that most of the projects are designed for US-sized stationery, but can be adapted. - Graphic Design'

Watch Battery - button batteries, battery

The batteries showed up ahead of schedule. And they look exactly as shown in the picture. And that is the only good news. The first sign of trouble is that the 'Use By' date is left blank. My Radio Shack battery tester indicated they came in on the low side of the 'green' area on the tester (meaning replace soon). I am using them to replace the battery in the remote control key for my car. And when I used one of these 'new' batteries, my car warned me immediately that I need to replace my battery soon in my remote control key. Not very useful for a new battery. So if you want to buy cheap batteries almost immediately needing replacement, these might be your idea of a good purchase. For all others, buyer beware. I ordered these batteries from Cybermansez specifically because they were Sony and had an expiration date of 2017. In reality they are cheap batteries made in China with a shelf life of 2 years.

You have been warned.

Got my 5-pack of individually sealed Sony batteries from the vendor, National Brand distribution for a very attractive price. As noted by others, the use by date is not stamped on the package - it's left blank. See some of my other reviews on batteries if you want to compare. These batteries are somewhat stale, but for the price do present a reasonable value. I tested the open voltage on them and they are all very close to 3.20 V at 23 C. That qualifies as a new battery, but it is not fresh as a new shipment of (Duracell's, Energizer's, etc.) from the local department store. Great batteries start out with open voltages around 3.35 V. The significance of the 3.20 V value in this case is that either they are a year or two old, or were stored less time but in a warm place (or they meet a lower spec).

Overall, these Sony CR 2032's are a good value considering the price and the lower voltage would not indicate to more than 20% loss and still exceeds the manufacturers spec sheet claim (which is purposely a conservative claim). It is a good deal. I like the fact that all of my Sony's were consistent at 3.2V. I also bought 5 Maxell CR 2032 from Best Price Mirror and tested them side by side with the Sony's; and also against new Energizers and new Duracell's. The Maxell's were packaged similarly as the Sony's in 5 attached on a perforated card with individual sealed blisters. However, they cost about $1.00 more for the 5 and their open voltage was only 3.07 V on the average. Unfortunately for the Maxell's, there was variation among the batteries - this is not as good and was not the case with the Sony's. The Sony's beat them hands down.

I recommend this Sony CR 2032's 5-pack, individually packaged from National Brand Dist. if my shipment was representative of all the sales. I've reviewed other cheapies and have not recommended any of them ... this is a first. I hope yours works out as well as these seem and that there are no other issues! It will be nice: Good luck!

The packaging says Sony, but I should have been suspicious when the package had the expiration date blank. These batteries ran down ridiculously quickly. They last a week, tops, in my kitchen scale, when the battery that came with it lasted for months. I don't know if they're rejects or counterfeits or what, but they're definitely not worth buying.

National Deals sent the 5 Sony cells exactly as pictured. The one I put in the outdoor digital thermometer works fine. The original lasted about 7 months. Seems reasonable for these teeny batteries, but that's why I wanted several. We'll see about this one.

added March 18, 2011, 9 months later:

The outdoor battery lasted about 6 months. It gave up on a dead cold day in winter. The cold drops battery voltage, so the battery is about the same as the original (a Maxell). I'm about 3 months into the second. I figure I'm way ahead compared to buying locally.

As for why no date code: Manufacturer's will sell in bulk to OEM's the same product manufactured in the same facilities as the retail product, minus the warranty, sometimes for drastically less. For one thing, distribution is the main cost when a particular store only sells maybe a dozen of the item in a month. Even in two-packs, these batteries cost drastically less than singles at the local grocery store.

Stop wasting your money. This is electronic snake oil!!! I'm an engineer with over 35 years experience in RF communication. Trust me; this device will do nothing to improve your reception. In fact if it does anything, it might actually detune your cell phones internal antenna and decrease its performance.

The cell phone industry is extremely competitive. Cell phone manufactures spend tens of millions of dollars designing their phones for optimum performance. They employ some of the finest engineering minds in the world. Doesn't logic tell you that if a few bits of foil could dramatically improve a phones performance they would have already incorporated it into their designs? These things are just a confidence trick. They don't do a thing. They can't do a thing. If you believe these make your phone work better then you probably find the stripes down the side of cars make them go faster too.

Folks, this is nothing more than a sticker with a design on it.

It can in no way, and does in no way improve reception at all.

They were selling these for $20, now I see they are down to $1, and even that is a rip off, unless you are a collector of quack devices, in which case, you must have this for your collection of quack devices from this century.

I am keeping mine in it's bubble package and display it on the wall near my test bench.

One day these will be worth something as collectors items, but don't get one beleiving that it can actually do what it claims, because that is physically impossible.

I bought a pack of these years ago thinking that it might do something for me.... There is a reason it is so cheap. It is nothing more than a sticker made to look like some kind of super thin circuit board. You are better off putting one of those smiley face or star stickers from the kindergarten "good job" board on your phone.

Bought this in conjunction with an actual WiFi booster device, which for me was equally worthless. But at least this one was like only $3 whereas the Z-Boost wifi booster was considerably more. Marvel Universe - dress up, shield

I ordered this to go with my son's Halloween costume. I went for the cheaper version and that is exactly what I got. It cracked within 5 minutes. I should have purchased the more durable version, so he could get more play time out of it playing in his costume after Halloween. Captain America Shield Costume,Diameter: 12.75"

If you are looking for a durable toy and your kid likes Captain America, this is a good toy to pick up.

We got this for our son months ago and he still plays with it all the time! The inside of the shield has solid

straps where they put their arm to hold it like a shield, and the design is awesome. One caveat: If your child knows the character Captain America be sure he knows to throw it outside and not inside the house. While it is made of a hard plastic it

can do some damage to your walls if thrown like Cap does.

How I wish this was available when I was a kid. We had to use trash can lids to play Captain America back in the day!

This seesm very durable and has been loads of fun for my 4 year old. Would definitely recommend.

Durable! It has been taken just about everywhere with our 5 now 6 year old son. WARNING- the red paint will stay on anything that he accidentally bumps it on... including our BMW! Great construction and a favorite in our house!
