Have never been a big meat-eater, but cut back even more a few months ago. I began supplementing my diet with more beans/legumes, but was not feeling nutritionally satisfied, and realized I was not getting enough protein. Did a little research, and discovered that hemp was ideal for meeting protein requirements, and according several articles I read, it has many other nutritional and health benefits as well. I purchased the Nutiva hemp protein powder in conjunction with the Better Than Milk "Rice" (to avoid over use of soy). According to directions for both products, I mix 4 tablespoons hemp protein and 2 tablespoons of BTM, in water. It mixes easily in a regular plastic shaker, and I don't even have to use the "de-clumping" attachment that fits inside the shaker. It's just Shake-N-Go! This combination has been the perfect way to start my day. I was concerned about the taste, as some reviews I have read rated the taste of hemp very low. I can't speak for other brands, but the finely ground Nutiva hemp powder has a mild nutty flavor, and I LOVE IT. From what I've read, hemp does not contain oligosaccharides (which commonly causes "gastric distress" with soy proteins), and I have not experienced any bloating with the hemp and rice milk combo. I am happy to start my day with something both nutritious and delicious, and thank goodness I don't have to use the electric blender (one less thing to wash). Also, the Amazon price on the Nutiva Hemp Protein and the Better Than Milk Rice can't be beat, and both qualify for free shipping. FANTASTIC!!! SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO GET HEMP POWDER AND HEMP SEEDS MIXED UP. THEY ARE BOTH GREAT PRODUCTS, PUT THE POWDER IS WHAT YOU WANT FOR SMOOTHIES AND SUCH. THE HEMP SEEDS ARE FOR SPRINKLING ON SALADS AND SUCH!!!! This is a great product, have used every day for last 3 years. Since it is raw and in it's natural state, you body has to do "no work" to process and digest it, thus that energy is used to do other things (like staw awake at work). Yes the amount of protein is 11 grams per serving, but since it is raw and in its natural state, the body will assimilate more of it that many protein sources with 2 or 3 times as much protein. The more nutrition in any food, the less your body needs to be happy. I do about 20 grams per serving since I'm near 200 pounds. But forget about the concept of grams of protein per serving, think more in terms of how much of a protein your body can process and assimilate from the protein source. I have proved this theory by eating a chicken breast one day, and drinking a hump smoothie at the same time another day and noticing that after the chicken I get hungrier faster, which implies the chicken has less nutrients in it. 50 grams of beef or chicken will not give your body as much protein as hemp. One point to remember is hemp is not something you can mix with water or milk by itself and expect a good taste. It has a muddy and mirky look and taste and an un-appealing green color it. However my smoothies are great because I add frozen banana, gives it an "Ice creamy taste", frozen blueberries (turns my smoothies an appealing grape-purple color) and strawberries, cacao nibs, and also instead of water, I always keep some cold herbal fruit flavored tea in the fridge and use that, gives it a fruity taste that permeates the smoothie. Very often they are so good, I smack my lips wanna go make another. Jamba Juice ain't got nothin' on me! Don't mean to get long-winded, but this is one of the healthiest foods in the world, and when you eat healthy, get great physicals, and never feel tired, you wanna spread the word with so much mis-information out here. By the by, been using for 3 years everyday and have passed to 2 drug tests for 2 jobs.



Oh and I have to respond to another reviewer named "Not Me" on his comments in relation to mine pertaining to "Chicken vs. Hemp". We both gave the product 5 stars but had some disagreement on the best protein. He threw out a lot info on the components of protein, but I am very in tune with my body, and I can say for sure that a hemp base smoothie gives my body type more nutrition than a chicken breast and I get positive energy effects after my smoothie and not the dropp-off like after I eat meat. I'm not saying hemp has the best amino acid profile, so I supplement my protein intake daily from other sources, especially organic free range eggs. He mentions soy as a great protein, but he is not aware that excessive soy is bad for women, and the benefits of soy is mainly in fermented soy products. So, I guess we can go back and forth, but my review was for the person who is trying to get started in finding better products, that person is probably not at the point of analyzing the amino acid profile of a smoothie. I'll say again that I know for fact through experience and experimentation that a hemp based smoothie gives me more nutrition that chicken of beef. Not sure how a stranger on the web can tell me it doesn't. But we are all trying to learn, and I am experimenting with supplementing my Hemp protein with Brazil Nut protein and some others, BUT DEFINITELY NOT WHEY OR SOY. There are many opinions in health just as in politics and sports, the key get is to just get started, enjoy researching products, enjoy positive effects of good products, get in tune with yourself, and your body will tell you what is right or wrong.

I have been using Nutiva Hemp Protein for about a year now in my hot cereal and smoothies. (I use stevia and Agave Syrup to sweeten, also avail on Amazon.) I like it, esp for the awesome nutritional profile! The flavor and texture may take some getting used to for some people, but well wrth it for the health benefit! And the best price I have found so far is right here on Amazon.

I love hemp, I would give this 5 stars but I think I like the seeds more than the powder, but I'll use it either way. I don't eat meat and with everyone putting so much pressure on getting protein I decided to up dose especially now that I am running and working out more my muscles will really need more to build on. The great thing about Hemp protein is it bonds well with amminos which are the building block for muscle and to top it off Hemp provides Omega 3 & 6. Even if you aren't vegan, raw or whatever I would recommend adding it to your regular diet! - Protein - Organic - Hemp - Raw Food'

I haven't had the watch "bug" since six years ago when I went on a small buying spree. About a week ago it hit me again. Ah well...

I like the look of open skeleton movements (especially those with exhibition backs), and I like automatic or mechanical movements as opposed to quartz battery movements. I find them beautiful and fascinating. That being said I can't afford to spend thousands for a luxury Swiss made watch (although I do have a few low end ones). So I usually troll around the web looking at the less expensive (i.e. cheap) brands. Awhile back I came across this watch on Amazon and fell in love with it's looks, and price. I have never heard of Akribos XXIV though I did go to their website. They operate out of Brooklyn N.Y. Their site seems to be down as I could not view their posted watch collections.



Pros:



Cheap-$49.99 at Amazon.

Very good looking design.

Open skeleton face ans exhibition back.

For such a busy front the hands are fairly easy to see.

Good looking dress watch, especially with a dark suit.

Seems to keep good time. Mine has gained 40 seconds in 5 days. Pretty good for a Chinese movement.

Simple watch. No complications (i.e. date, day, date, week, etc.) only time. So less chance of it dying.



Cons:



Very poor crown design. Mine is very hard to get out as the designers have left no space between the crown and the case to slip a finger nail in and get it out. I found that gripping it with a piece of rubber band between my thumb and index finger I was able to pull it out to adjust the time. And remember; if your used to having a watch with a date complication you may forget and try to pull it out two stops to adjust the time. Since this watch only tells time it only moves out one stop.



Chinese movement: These can vary wildly in quality control even from watch to watch of the same model. You may get a decent one or you may get a dud. It's cheap so don't expect Swiss quality, and treat it with a little TLC when winding and adjusting. The Chinese automatic movements in my Stuhrling and Nicolet watches still keep almost as good time as my Swiss made KINGMATIC Movado automatic, and are better looking to boot.



Although it's automatic you may have to wind it at night before going to bed as I doubt it has much of a reserve as the higher end autos.

(You can seen the mainspring through the front of the watch in the 12:30 position. When the the bands are tightly together it's fully wound. If you have to wind it NEVER wind it to a full stop as you can easily break it. Wind it just to the point you feel a firm resistance and keep an eye on the mainspring).



All in all I'm very pleased so far with this watch so far, mainly for it's great look. Whether or not the movement will will last remains to be seen.



I'd recommend this watch to anyone looking for a cool looking dress watch at a very affordable price. Just be gentle with it!



P. Sullivan Akribos XXIV Men's AK410SS 'Saturnos' Skeleton Automatic Leather Strap Watch

I managed to scoop up this watch for a ridiculous price of $55 for a one-hour sale. THis is an automatic watch, so that means thatthe scond needle has a sweeping motion, like many high end watches. This watch got me out of two sticky situations, where I was confronted with one male and one gorgeous female, and ther was nothing to talk about as it was an awkward moment, but this watch saved the day when it appeared for a breif moment when my hand reached out to press the "door close" button on the elevator. Immidiatly it became the topic of conversation, and now three people in the elevator were looking at the internals of the watch (which ARE awesome, mind you).





Sadly, you cannot tell tim ein this watc at night as it doenst have any glow-in-the-dark paint, so youll have to twitch your wrist a little to get a shimmer of light going. Secondly, this is just a nag, but this watch has only one feature. Telling time. I know that this watch should probably cost more, as it doesnt loose or gain time like many 100$ watches, but I miss my other watches where I can get at least the DATE going. If youre good with your calendar, this should no be an issue, but then again, any mans WATCH should NOT be of only one purpose.



THis watch is gorgeous, and at one point i was staring at it for 15 minutes just watching everything move on the inside. It is self winding as well, so as you move your hand throughout the day; the watch will have juice.



Great entry level automatic+exibition watch. Love the backside too. bought this watch knowing i would cut the strap and turn it into a clasp buckle, but its fine for now. I was not buying this watch for the strap, but for the watch itself. It might look good with a metal band, or any other band you may choose to adjunt it with. IT is buietiful however, and even at 150 it would still be a good buy if its your FIRST automatic/exibition/waterproof watch.

If you want to choose Akribos XXIV watch in part because it carries a warranty, please be warned that Akribos XXIV does not honor its warranty. It's been 1 year since I made a request for warranty replacement and I still have not received a response.

I bought this watch with the hopes that it would work as well as the good reviews had described, but I got one of the "unlucky ones." I was able to get the watch to work for 55 minutes through various combinations of moving the automatic winder and rotating the hands but that was before about 20 attempts where the seconds hand stopped rotating within the minute. Further attempts revealed the same disappointing results. Everything looked beautiful, it came in an amazing case too which could easily even fit three watches if someone wanted to use it while traveling, but the overall product has to be defined as a failure because it didn't do what a watch is supposed to do...keep the time. Good luck to anyone else willing to take the risk, if you get one that actually works I'm sure it'd be one of your favorites!'

Personally, I think that we would all be better off if we spent more time in our education process teaching people about the realities of their economic lives. This is especially true of their choice of careers, managing those resources, and preparing for their "golden years". I could nominate a few topics I think we could cease teaching in order to have room for the necessary classes to provide people with real life financial management skills that can have a direct impact on the improvement of all aspects of their lives.



This book, "Personal Finance - Turning Money into Wealth" is a fantastic tool for students and ANY interested reader. I wish everyone would work through this book (or one very much like it). While it is never too late to develop these skills, the younger a person gets a plan for their economic life in place, the more power it has and the better off they will be long term.



I like the way Prof. Keown emphasizes basic principles (he has 15 of them) and planning. He begins the book by providing the foundation of financial planning, teaching the student how to measure their financial health and using that to inform their plan, understanding the Time Value of Money (a topic so vital that no one should graduate high school without knowing, in my opinion), and the basics of tax planning.



The author then provides some great information on managing money by understanding the realities of cash and liquid assets, credit cards (open credit) and the traps it represents, using consumer loans in PLANNED BORROWING (another important topic that is almost unknown to most consumers because of the misuse of open credit), and buying homes and automobiles.



I really enjoyed his next discussion on insurance. He talks about the various kinds of insurance, the kinds of protection they provide at what costs, and especially the situations in which buying insurance makes sense and when it does not.



The section on managing investments is good, solid, but BASIC information. Anyone doing anything beyond a few basic retirement plans will need to study other materials. This section is the one where I have a tiny quibble with the author. He differentiates investing and speculation by saying that investing involves putting money in assets that provide returns - stocks, bonds, etc - but that speculating is putting money in things like baseball cards that only have a price based on what others are willing to pay. I sort of understand what I think he is trying to say.



However, all investing is in some sense speculating. The buyer and seller have different views of the future (speculating about the future) and so they make opposite choices at a certain price. Either of them would change their view, presumably, at some other price. Stocks do not have a built in return and many do not pay dividends and too often nowadays their residual value is zero. Too often people buy stocks simply because they are going up (the greater fool theory) and get badly burned as we saw in the Internet Bubble collapse in early 2000. In any case, the caution the author advocates is sufficient and sound. I am just concerned that others use the terms "investment" and "speculation" differently than the author and might confuse those trying to enter the fray for the first time.



This fine text ends with a discussion of life cycle issues such as retirement planning, estate planning, and how all the pieces studied fit together into the grand plan.



The author also provides online helps such as problems, quizzes, and especially many useful spreadsheets that the student can not only use, but study to help them build their own that will be tailored to the student's specific situation. There is also a workbook with the basics of using a financial calculator and the worksheets called for in the text.



This is a superb text on a vital topic. Strongly Recommended for general readers as well as students in a class on this subject (which EVERY college student should be REQUIRED to take - or pass out of by test). The book was exactly what I needed for my class and at a great price, shipping included. The book covers a series of topics, allowing the reader to eventually take full control of their finances. The only voiced concern thus far regarding the textbook from my classmates and I has been the dating of the book. Laws and options are always changing, especially tax laws. The textbook goes over taxes and other areas with forms and statistics dated between 2005 ad 2008. As long as the reader is willing to look up recent changes in the dated areas, all will be well and much will be learned.

I sure wish I would have studied this in high school. I have 3 graduate degrees and can't believe I didn't know much of what is taught in this book. I highly recommend this book to everyone who hasn't had a personal finance class, especially young adults. Tea Gift Set - bentleys, tea time

I saw this and thought it would be worth trying, primarily to have a nice box to keep tea in. The box is great, but I was astonished at how much I like the teas. Whatever their source for tea (100% Ceylon) has a very smooth and distinctive flavor. Their English Breakfast is easily the best black tea I've tried (and I love tea), at least when taken without milk. It's fine with milk, but isn't as good as some UK teas. The flavored teas are all very well balanced as well. I'd strongly recommend this (or a related smaller size) if you're looking for some very great tea as well as a good place to keep it. After reading that Bentley's has the finest Ceylon teas in the world, I decided to give this as a Christmas gift to my husband. He says it is the best tea he's ever had, and since he is somewhat of a tea connoisseur, I would consider that a compliment. The box is beautiful, and it makes a lovely presentation.

This is a really neat selection of teas in a very handsome box - just as nice to look at as the teas are delicious. I think I will order a few of these for Christmas presents for those "hard-to-find-presents-for" friends. I can highly recommend this product and am wholeheartedly enjoying it.

It is "special" to be offered your choice of tea and company always enjoys picking their own flavor. It is especially nice when it is presented in a lovely wooden box ( sort of like opening a gift).You soon learn your friends favorites. It also makes a lovely gift.

I was actually surprised by how nice the box looks. It's a nice wood grain with rich color. The tea is good stuff, several packs of each flavor, no staples on the bags for people who like to toss them in the microwave.



The box is sturdy but light. It has wood dividers, not CARDBOARD like some others. Everything inside is covered in felt. The whole thing is shrink-wrapped with the lid on the bottom of the box just like in the picture of the product.



This would make an excellent gift for any tea drinker, or just buy it for you if you like tea and want a nice place to keep the bags.

I bought this as a gift and read the reviews before buying. It looked really nice when received and the people seemed to like it. I do agree that I was dissapointed about the felt moving away to show the partical box dividers. But I hear the tea is fantastic, so I really hope the box lasts a long time.

I bought this to serve tea with a beautiful presentation for special dinners and I am pretty disappointed. The book looks nice until you get close to it and touch it. I specifically ordered this memory card for my Blackberry Curve 8330 with two goals in mind.



1: Store videos and music on my phone

2: Expanded memory for applications and documents



On both counts I have not been let down! This card is wicked fast when it comes to file transfers via the Blackberry software. I had expected, indeed planned, for a bit of a "hit" when using the RIM software to expedite file transfers (play lists, music, and videos) but if there is one I am not seeing it.



The included adapter is a handy add on bonus as I do have quite a few microSD cards lying around and can now use those for other devices that accept SD cards.



Oh, and it IS a Class 6 card. Transcend 8 GB microSDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS8GUSDHC6E

I purchased this 8GB - Class 6, upgrading from an 8GB - Class 4, because I needed the faster read/write speeds on my cell phone.



After installing it, I immediately noticed a faster response in the data transfer speeds. My ringtones, music, and pictures loaded faster, even when receiving a call.



I recommend upgrading to the Class 6 to anyone wanting/needing fast transfer rates.



The data transfer rates of SD Cards are:



(Read Speed of a Standard CD-ROM = 150 kb/s)

Class 2 - (Equivalent to ~13x the read speed of a Standard CD-ROM) - 2 MB/s

Class 4 - (Equivalent to ~26x the read speed of a Standard CD-ROM) - 4 MB/s

Class 6 - (Equivalent to ~40x the read speed of a Standard CD-ROM) - 6 MB/s



So, as you can see, the Class 6 is approximately 50% faster than a Class 4.

My overall view of the Transcend MicroSD card is that the product itself is good; however, the adapter that comes with it is not HC compatible. I have contacted Transcend directly about this shortfall and they are replacing the adapters as we speak. I do not blame the vendor that sold the card as the package was sealed and it was not a pirated version of the product. There are many different products available through the Amazon website that are also not HC compatible but sold with high capacity markings. If I were to purchase more cards from Amazon.com I would ensure the vendor tested the functionality with HC cards before I ordered them or allowed them to be shipped to me. I suggest dealing direct wth the manufacturer for these VERY FAST MicroSD Cards as they are now available directly on their website.

I own 6 micro SDHC cards which I use to store a variety of images and files for access on a number of devices. I have 4 Transcend Micro SDHC 16gb cards which are clearly the fastest (data transfer, class 6) and most reliable cards that I have used.

I purchased this 8GB microSDHC Transcend card to replace my 4GB Sandisk microSDHC card. This card works exactly as expected. It's hard for me to comment on the speed of it, class 6. It definitely is class 6 so there shouldn't be any hesitation in purchasing due to a lack of confidence. I don't often transfer data on and off the card so I really didn't notice any speed benefits. Again, the speed benefits may exist but I haven't noticed it. I always thought that Sandisk was the best most reliable brand, but that may not be true. I've had issues with Sandisk cards but this Transcend has worked perfectly.

I had been looking for a cheap way to expand the memory on my G1 phone and I wanted the fastest micro SD card around and here it is - a Transcend 8g class 6 card. The 8gigs is plenty of room to hold my stuff and the price is at the inflection point on cost per gig for me (ie the 16g is too expensive for the speed and the 4gig isn't enough space).



I've been using this as my portable music player now for several weeks and all I can say is there hasn't been a hiccup. In fact, I think the card has also improved the speed of the camera (which is to say the camera is still horribly slow - but maybe just a tad less so on the writes). Additionally, I use the phone, mounted as a USB drive, to move files to and from work. In this, I've noticed that the transfers are much more snappy - always a good thing.

Rechargeable Speakers - ipod dock, bose

I was warned recently that Bose quality was not what it used to be. That must be a nasty rumor because this system is fantastic. I have a sound dock in my bedroom and I have loved it forever. But I was not sure I would buy any more Bose after what I had heard from a friend. So when I got this as a gift for Christmas, I wasn't sure if I would keep it. WOW, in just a few days I have grown to love this thing and can't imagine life without it! We take it outside, to the park, it is like the boombox for the new millennium! I am kidding, I don't roller-skate around with it on my shoulder (yet) but we took it to the park for a picnic and the sound made me feel like I was at an outdoor concert. It is incredible.



One downside is that it is about 6 or 7 pounds, which is comparable to my dinosaur laptop. That sounds light until you have it hanging from your shoulder in an airport for an hour or so. So keep that in mind when traveling, this will definitely go into my rolling carry on...along with the laptop. It isn't HEAVY by any stretch of the imagination, but when you travel you have to consider every pound you carry.



I travel a lot and spend a lot of time in hotels. This little system is going to make me feel at home wherever I go. The sound quality is awesome. It is light and portable and fits perfectly into the front pocket of my carry on bag. The extra battery is included, which is a bonus for when I am out and about and unable to recharge.



I was so excited to take some time off, but now I am excited to get back out on the road so I can enjoy my new Bose-to-Go. Bose music-to-go package - SoundDock for iPod and iPhone (Gloss Black)

This is as good as it gets for the size/weight. Very good clarity in the mids. Decent bass I can live with (it's the best among the portables).

It is no mistery that the Bose sounddock portable are the best portable speakers in the market, and this sets includes the carrying bag that is very nice and perfect for it and 1 extra battery. The only problem is that the extra battery doesnt fit in the small pockets of the bag, so nowhere to put it.

Just purchased this BOSE soundDock this week. So far, it's been great. Easy to operate with my iphone/ipad and the sound is pretty good for its size. My Sonos soundDock sounds a little better/richer but it is also larger and heavier. The cost of these earrings is very low considering that most of the jewelry that I buy is in the $30 range for earrings. But the colors caught my eye so I thought, "why not see how they are?" I was not disappointed. They are very pretty and I receive a lot of compliments on them. They catch the light and send beautiful sparkles out from the facets. I have since ordered another pair in another color.



You cannot beat this quality for the price. And if for some reason they don't sparkle enough for you, dip them in jewelry cleaner or an ultrasonic cleaner and then go out in the sun. When i received my earrings in the mail i was not so excited as when I saw these compared to when I saw it on the web. They are good quality and cute sparkly earrings but they are definitely not genuine swarovski crystals. more like glass.

These looked great in the picture, but when I got them I was disappointed. There's not as sparkly and bright as I had thought they would be. They just look like plastic beads on a wire. The return policy from the store I bought them from was such that it would have cost too much in postage and fees to make it worth returning.

I was expecting a cluster of crystals that were individually dangling to maximize movement. They hung straight down from a center post. They sparkle and look good- but I expected much more after I read all of the reviews for them. I would not pay full price for these, but I paid $18.99, and feel slightly ripped off. I'm beginning to think that most of the reviews are fake, since this is my fourth purchase from Gem Avenue.

My husband was the one that actually ordered these beautiful earrings for me. They are breathlessly beautiful and priced far below comparable jewelry I have seen in the jewelry cases at Penny's or even Walmart.
