Compact Camera With Hd Video - photography, digital camera

I originally bought a Sony DSC-S950, for around half the price of this camera, but I returned it the same day due to a faulty flash bulb. I decided to upgrade to the W290, because I wasn't very happy with the S950 - it felt cheap, and lacked features.

I've put together this list of pros and cons of this camera. Don't let the seemingly long list of cons scare you though, as they are all quite minor and not even important enough for me to rate this camera anything less than 5 stars. I just felt it was necessary to list everything I could think of. Sorry, I couldn't properly review the HD Video capability, because I don't have the HD cables (see below), and my computer seems to be too slow to properly play back HD video.

Pros:

-BRILLIANT colors! I am very very impressed with the colors in my shots, especially when shooting outdoor scenery shots (which is primarily what I purchased this camera for).

-Night-time shots using a tripod turn out very well also, giving as much detail as one could see with their naked eye.

-Smile shutter, as mentioned in previous reviews, works flawlessly. One thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere, is that when it's in Smile Shutter mode, it will continue to snap photos automatically as long as it keeps detecting smiles, which is very cool. So if you are taking a group picture, and you're one of those people that likes taking 3 shots of the same thing "just in case", just keep on smiling and the camera will take care of that for you.

-there's a 3-shot burst mode, where it automatically takes 3 pictures when you click the button: one with your default EV, one at -1EV, and one at +1EV (or different intervals even, if you choose). That once-in-a-lifetime shot you take will have 3 different versions automatically, and you can choose the one you like the most and delete the rest later.

-The Intelligent Auto mode works fantastically, it takes a lot of the stress out of taken urgent pictures. The only time I ever don't use it is when I have plenty of time to plan for a shot.

-Startup time is great! I've seen other complaints from people that say this camera takes too long to startup and be ready to use, but those people must be the most impatient people ever, because this thing is faster than any other camera I've owned, digital or otherwise. When you click the power button, the lens fires out lightning fast and the screen immediately displays the picture and is ready for action. Probably takes about 0.5 seconds from pushing the button to being ready to use.

Cons:

-Plastic cover on LCD screen protrudes from the camera body, making it more easily scratched. I would recommend getting some screen protectors, as I'm about to do.

-the jack for the all-in-one cable is on the bottom of the camera, which will be great once a dock is available, but in the meantime it's a very inconvenient place to plug in the cable. It forces you to lay to camera on either the lens side, or the LCD side (which, as mentioned above, is designed in such a way that it could be scratched quite easily without a screen protector)

-Doesn't come with HD video cables, only the typical yellow/red/white RCA analogue cables. Seeing as how this camera records HD video, it would be nice to be able to play it back in HD on my tv without burning it to a DVD first. You can buy the HD cables from sony if you really need them, though.

-Comes with an NP-BG1 battery, which disables the camera's ability to show you the remaining minutes. You have to buy the optional NP-FG1 battery to see that. That's the only difference, both batteries have the same capacity. It was obviously designed that way to force us to buy a second battery... but that was fine with me, since I planned on buying one anyways.

My wife and I are planning a long vacation trip and needed a compact, but versatile, alternative to a full blown DSLR. I've owned this little camera for just 20 hours, but can offer some first impressions. We bought a Canon SX110IS at Christmas for our daughter. Compared to the jewel-like Sony, the Canon's build quality seems substantially less. However, it has a 10X optical zoom compared to Sony's 5x, but 9 mega pixel resolution compared to 12.1 on the Sony. I doubt that the image quality difference will be notable, but I will update this when I can make a valid comparison.

One of the main reasons I picked the Sony over the Canon is that it is truly compact. While the Canon is small, the Sony is flat - less than 1" thick - and hardly shows in a pocket (although I have ordered a case). Comparatively speaking, its LCD screen is huge and bright (but does not swivel like some Canons). BTW, neither camera has a viewfinder, so I am not confident that either will be easy to see in bright sunlight.

This model does NOT employ a touch screen (which I did not value), but the controls (though small) are simple and generally intuitive once you learn Sony's ops language (different from Canon's). I will admit, if you happen to be a bit ham-fisted, you may not be willing to struggle with such tiny controls which are suited more to a child's hand than an adults. Also, because they are so small, the two adjustable dials are hard to read - not so handy when your eyes start to fail as are mine.

The special features (many on this camera) all seem like they may be useful, but the "smile" feature seems a bit useless to me. The facial recognition works great - even when I pointed it at a TV image. It takes longer than I am used to to auto focus (I normally shoot with a Canon full frame 5D that uses focus motors in the lenses - hardly a fair comparison).

Also, if you plan to use this camera to record full 12.1 mega pixel images, you will have to buy plenty of Memory Stick storage, although it will shoot at much lower resolutions, it has limited internal memory. I bought two 16GB Sony brand Pro Duo sticks on eBay for $21 each to be able to do so. BTW, that is much cheaper than Amazon, say. Also, since this camera shoots HD (720P) video in MPEG4 format - one of the features I plan to exploit - you'll want plenty of extra storage anyhow.

I'll have to reserve my opinions on picture quality until I can do a real world test, but the images I shot indoors with the built-in flash were crisp and noiseless at 12.1 mega pixels, less so, of course as I tried lower resolutions.

And did I mention that the Sony's "anodized" blue finish trimmed in "black chrome" is elegant and stunning?

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

Shortly after writing this review, I decided to double-check my "cheap" memory purchase. What I found was disturbing. It is very likely that the Pro Duo memory sticks I bought on eBay are FAKES! I'm telling you this so you won't make the same mistake I probably did (my Memory Sticks have not yet been delivered). If you will check out this eBay link BEFORE you buy memory for your new camera (or other Sony device), you may be able to save yourself a lot of trouble (and $$$).

Like they say, "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is". I know better, and now, so do you. I will confirm the results after I have had a chance to try them out. Incidentally, just shot some outside images of our flowering crabapple blossoms. Pictures look great and I could see the LCD in "cloudy bright" afternoon sunlight.

As promised, an update. The Memory Sticks from Hong Kong did indeed turn out to be bogus. They look exactly like Sony products, including the very detailed packaging, but they simply didn't work. The Sandisk Ultra 4GB version I bought at Staples works great, even when recording "HD fine" video. Playback looks beautiful (considering the source) on the computer, but not nearly as sharp on an HDTV when using the composite cable that came with the camera. I now have no qualms about substituting this for my miniDV camcorder on the next trip, however.

The "smile" function actually works, but I could live without it. The camera makes it really difficult to mess up exposure. I've even tried fooling it with extremely harsh back lighting and it still exposed faces properly. 12.1GB images are not as sharp as I'd like when I carefully examine the detail, and there is some noise present. Keep in mind, however, that I typically shoot with a Canon full frame DSLR. I will, however, compare it to a Nikon Coolpix I used a couple of years ago. The Nikon was substantially sharper in similar situations. If the ultimate picture quality is high on your priority list, look at the comparably priced Nikons and Canons. For the features I wanted, this Sony remains the best choice for me. Finally, Sony make two affordable underwater housings for this camera. Drill Press - woodworking

This is my first drill press that I've added to my well equipped wood shop. It was easy to set up. I was able to carry the base, shaft and table by myself. A buddy helped me carry the head to my basement shop. I had it running within minutes. It does not come with a fence. So I ordered the Delta 18-901 24-in Biesemeyer Drill Press Fence The laser was spot on. It also comes with a light that mounts on the left side. When the light is on the laser is very difficult to see. Not a big deal but worth noting.

I really like the 6" quill travel. It runs super smooth. Changing speeds is fast. Pop the lid open, push the handle which losens the tension on the belt, and move the belt then move the handle back. There is a chart glued to the bottom of the lid. Pick the type and size of bit along with the material and you have your needed speed. There is a spot on the right side of the head to put the key chuck. Which helps guys like me who are bad about misplacing tools. I am really impressed by the spindle nuts. They have a side button which allows them to quickly move without turning. Not new to those more knowledgeable about DP's but a nice for me. Machine operates quietly and looks great in my shop with the mobile base HTC HTC2000 Universal Mobile Base Delta supplied all the necessary hex wrenches necessary for assembly.

So far the only problem I've had was the left over locknut after finishing the build. It is around 1/4". ??? Great machine that is probably more than I need. Just don't tell my wife!! Delta 18-900L 18-Inch Laser Drill Press

I looked at large drill presses for over a year before deciding on this model. I was looking at the other Delta drill press that never went into production. I compared this machine to the Powermatic model for about a month every time I went to my local Woodcraft store. I like things about both machines. I decided to go with the Delta model because it tilts forward, has very little vibration if any, 6 inch quill stroke, and super easy clamping ability. I like the keyed chuck on this model it ensures a good grip on the bit. I waited awhile before writing this review so I could do justice to the review. I prefer this model even though it isn't instant variable speed, however, it takes only one minute to change the belt speed and there is no run out on the bit. Read all the descriptions on both machines. I honestly love this machine and am very proud to own it and recommend it to my fellow woodworkers out there.

I received this as a Christmas present early. Set up was less than 30 minutes. Kind of neat, I used the laser to locate the drilling head right over the center of the base, no need for a plumbob. I am very pleased with this Delta product. I thought about buying a used drill press but decided on a new one. I came close to pulling the trigger on the Powermatic but I read in one of the reviews that the RPM range of the Delta, 170 - 3,000 would allow me to drill metal at a lower RPM. I read one review of a complaint about the chuck, and upgraded the 900L to a Jacobs Superchuck, I think the standard chuck is fine and seems to be made to a pretty good tolerance but the Superchuck, being ball bearing, can be spun to different size drills quite easily. The spring loaded push button quick set depth stops are pretty sweet too. The one stop can be adjusted to lock the quill in a down position and then by turning the stop, it allows for a fine adjustment if needed. Love the twin lasers and the built in light and of course the quick change belt adjustment and the 6" stroke.

One more thing, I picked this up at the terminal so I could have it to play with over the weekend but when I read the delivery paperwork, it was to be delivered inside, so that is a Plus One for Amazon's free shipping. Other big equipment from other companies that I have ordered from have always wanted to charge me extra for a power tail gate drop off, if I did not pick it up at the terminal, or I had to provide muscle power to get it down off the trailer.

Purchased to replace a 30 year old Craftsman drill press that I had upgraded to a 1 hp Baldor motor. My only complaint was the belt drive Craftsman used was 1/4 inch, way to small for a 1 hp motor. This resulted in occasional stalling out when using larger drill bits, in particual a 3" forrester bit.

Therefore I have always had my eye open to replacing the Craftsman drill press. Well, with the introduction of the new Powermatic and Delta drill presses I have been looking a little harder. When attending a local woodworking show they had a special on the Delta 18-900L for $708 + tax, and I made the purchase.

Overall I am very satisfied and agree with the other 5 star ratings of this tool. Easy to assembly, runs smooth, lasers are very nice to use but hard to see with the drill press light on. However, I fine these lasers very very very useful. They do need slight adjusting if moving the table around, however they are very easy to adjust and provide a high degree of accuracy when positioning a drill bit over the stock to be drilled. Changing the drill press speed is easy and can be done within one minute as another reviewer noted. I like the tilting table (left, right and foward) and the 5/8" chuck.

Complants:

I wish they had used a 1 hp motor instead of a 3/4 hp.

I wish they had used a slightly larger belt drive, however, this was an improvement over my other drill press.

The one thing to watch out for is the chuck. The runout on the chuck that came with the drill press was 0.022"; totally unacceptable. I checked the runout on the drill press spindle (without the chuck mounted) and it was 0.001"; excellent. I notified the local seller that was at the woodworking show and they gave me a replacement chuck. When I checked the runout on this chuck it was 0.0045"; a whole lot better and very acceptable for drilling holes in wood, but I was hoping for a little better. I ended up purchasing a Jacobs chuck and ended up with a runout of 0.0015".

Well I ended up a satisfied customer with a very accurate drill press having some very nice features. I think the drill press is well made and lives up to my expectations, however you may want to check runout. At 0.022 you can see the tip of a 6 inch twist drill bit wavering. My experience with Amazon has been very good. I have always found they stand behind their products if you experience a problem. - Woodworking'

Small Digital Camera

I purchased this camera to give to my 6 year old to take pictures on the trip. After reading reviews thought that although light weight it would be perfect for her first big girl camera. It was such a HUGE disappointment for both her and I. The buttons did not respond for her when pushed, the camera was difficult to change modes between reviewing pictures, turning on and off, and deleting , and would often get stuck in a mode and the only way to get it out of mode of reviewing or deleting was to open battery compartment to stop power. at any price this camera was a waste of time!!!!! This camera is horrible in every aspect. The flash is just a light you toggle on and off. When you snap a picture, it takes about a full second before the picture is actually taken, which makes it difficult for a child's first 'real' camera. The preview window was also horrible quality. I didn't expect the greatest camera for this price point, but this is unusable.

I purchased this product with the understanding that it was a C-Mos memory device and needed no additional memory card. This is incorrect, if not misleading. The device will not function without a memory card!

I purchased this item thinking it would be cute, easy to carry and take the pictures I wanted so desperately to capture of my toddling sons. Well it is cute, light weight and easy to carry but the picture quality is fuzzy at best. It just didn't take the quality photos I had hoped. This would be a neat gift though for a younger kid or preteen learning to use and care for a digital camera.'

Isbn-10-  0785807101 - hand tools, old ways of working wood

If you are fascinated by old woodworking tools, this book is a must. A history and evolution of woodworking puts it all in perspective. The book is adequately illustrated (line drawings - no photos). The writer does a great job of explaining how to actually use some vintage tools - such as an adze, broadaxe, drawknife, etc. Surprisingly, some old technology has simply has not been improved upon, and this book will help the modern woodworker rediscover those forgotten secrets. Old Ways of Working Wood: The Techniques and Tools of a Time Honored Craft

Americana's Author Alex W. Bealer clearly understood that "a picture is worth a thousand words" and published his numerous books on American traditions into very good examples of this old saying.

Here Mr. Bealer gives us the joy of looking at many of his wonderfully realistic pen-and-ink drawings of traditional 18th and 19th century woodworking tools and construction details. The reader can visualize with ease some basic methods of fabrications and the tools needed to build them.

...To further enrich your knowledge of historic American tools and hand planes, you will definitely not waste your money in reading Rogers K. Smith's Patented Transitional and Metallic Planes in America, 1827-1927 (Vol. I). Both books will eventually give you "expert" knowledge in the field!

(For the words and terms that were unknown or new to me, I used an old copy of the 1993 UPDATED and REVISED American Edition of the New Webster's dictionary and thesaurus of the English language at the very cheap price tag of ONLY 10 CENTS !)

Book does a good job of describing the use of a wide variety of hand tools for the cutting and shaping of wood for everything from fence posts to furniture. Diagrams could have been larger with less shading so that the details of the tools was clearer.

The illustrations, which are drawn by Mr. Bealer, are not at the level of Eric Sloane, but there is a lot of information in the book for the tooliophile (is that a word?). It also seems that much of the information that Mr. Bealer presents in the book was gleaned by actually speaking to the old timers who practiced the crafts of old. Books like this do help to see to it that our history is not lost to technological progress and who knows, some of this information may be good to have in the future.

If you could have only one book on primitive wood working tools and skill sets, this would be " that book ". It's a hard cover with good layman definitions and instructions on how and why the tools and skill sets were used and the evolution of both. This book also has easy to understand illustrations of every subject discussed. This was the first book that I bought on the subject. Every other book that I have purchased on primitive wood working has paled in comparison. Hard Case - thunderbolt, hard case

I've been using this case now for a few days on my Thunderbolt. I really just got it for peace of mind, because before I had a case I was always having nightmares of the day my phone would slip from my hands onto some asphault and I'd be out several hundred bucks. This case has cured my paranoia.

It is a very solid case, and seems like it would do very well at protecting my Thunderbolt from damage should it get dropped or banged around, though fortunately that hasn't happened yet. All of the holes are lined up perfectly for easy access to the buttons/outputs/stand/etc.

Only negatives I have about it are that in the back part of the case, the spot where the two ends of the case snap in is kind of raised up and not completely flat against the phone. And also, I can't see any other viable options for cases for this phone at the minute, so they're able to get away charging a ton for what feels like (and probably is) just a piece of plastic that costs less than a dollar to make. It is still worth it to me though otherwise I wouldn't have bought it, and surely other cheaper options will come along as the Thunderbolt is still a relatively new device. I had bought one of the Verizon gel cases when buying my new thunderbolt. What a mistake! Immediately started looking around for other case options and I really wanted to get a hard case (so the phone wouldn't stick to my jean pocket). This one fits very well. Nice soft texture on a hard case, but doesn't get caught in the pocket. I recommend it for sure.

this case is great, the black has a nice hard but rubbery feel, almost a little softness to it also.

dust does not cling to it too much. pant fuzz is easy to blow off. durable and fits on the phone great.

take off the case when going back into cell phone store because nobody knows how to take it off the phone and they may damage it, luckily i swiped it out of the dudes hand and showed him how to do it correctly.

would def reccomend.

First off, let me say, the case itself is great. It does it's job well. Unfortunately, it does it's job too well. If you ever need to remove the case (as it is a 3 part layered case), then you're more likely to ruin the case or scratch the phone while removing it. I needed to remove the case to restart the phone and adjust/check the sim card, and in the process, it took me an hour trying to remove the last layer of the case. Please be aware of this before considering the purchase.

this is an awesome case, it does have a little play in the bottom half the the case which some complained about. but i folded some paper up and put it in the case and now the fitment is tight and better than ever. would deff recommend it.

Just bought a new thunderbolt, so naturally I was wanted a case to keep it looking new. Decided to go with this case due to the high praise, and I'm so glad that I did. This is a quality case! It fits the phone very snugly and just feels solid. The design of it allows for very easy access to all of the buttons and ports. I was particularly nervous that having it on might make pressing the power button difficult, but I'm pleased to say that this is not the case. On top of offering functional goodness I personally feel that it adds to the overall look of the phone and really helps it feel more durable in the hand. Some might be concerned about the case adding thickness to an already bulky phone, and although it does, I actually found this desirable as weird as that sounds.

I've been using this case for about a week now. I was searching for a case that added minimal bulk with maximum protection. I have to say this case does just that.

It fits the phone absolutely perfectly. The backside of the case is lined in velvet so it doesn't scratch the phone at all. The case itself is in 2 pieces. The top part covers about 3/4 of the phone and then the bottom part covers the other 1/4 and they each slide into each other with a tab type locking mechanism on the back. The overall result is a very sturdy connection.

The case fits the phone perfectly. Every button or connection is perfectly operable including the kickstand, I'm really impressed with the fit. The power button is a little harder to press with it on, but it is what it is and doesn't bother me. The case has a nice matte feel to it and provides a tab more grip that the Thunderbolt exterior itself. It doesn't attract dust or lint either which is nice. It doesn't add much bulk or weight to the phone but I also feel confident that it would stand up to a drop really well. It strikes a nice balance between bulk and protection.

The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is the price. The product is great and I'll definitely remember Seidio for my next phone but $25 for a molded plastic case just seems excessive to me. - Htc - Hard Case - Seidio - Thunderbolt'

Siding Nailer - siding nailer, nails

I looked everywhere but Amazon.com had the best price out there. Anywhere else was between $40-$80 more. Package came as decribed and quickly. Bostitch C3R80BDG Thickcoat Round Head 1-1/4-Inch by .080-Inch by 15 Degree Wire Collated Ring Shank Coil Siding Nail (4,200 per Box)

I started off using a box of these from the local hardware store to hang cedar shingles with a Bostitch N66C nailer and they are a good fit. The ring shank has very good holding strength, the galvanized coating will prevent rust staining, and the nail diameter is just right. I've gone through almost 20 bundles and have only split 1 or 2 shingles. The current Amazon price can't be beat, it's almost half what the hardware store is charging. So when I ran out of nails this deal was a no brainer. The only draw back to these nails is that you can't get then any shorter then 1.25". They stick through the inside of the wall about 1/4" so it tends to be a safety concern when you use them on an un-insulated structure like a shed or garage. 1 inch would be perfect in this scenario. Other then that, these nails hardly ever jam in the nailgun. Just make sure you set the pressure regulator to at least 80-90 psi, other wise you are asking for trouble. Good quality nails made in the USA, would highly recommend to anyone for speeding up a cedar shingle, or other wood siding job.

Bought a freeman coil nailer and these bostitch c380bdg nails,well i should have read closer to the specs.These nails are .080 dia. The freeman calls for nails no smaller than.090 dia,so I got nails that don't work corectly,What ever you buy,you must check closely on recommended related items,cause in my case it was not compatible.As for the Freeman nailer,I love it.The cheapest coil siding nailer you can buy. - Nails - Bostitch - Siding Nailer'

Iphone 3gs Charger - ipod charger, iphone 3gs charger

Great charger. (It's only a charger, cannot connect the iphone to a computer.) I had been burned by a third party charger for a previous phone, and didn't recognize the name iseries but I decided to take a chance. When it arrived, I was delighted to see that it was in official Apple packaging. It's not some brand x charger, it's the real thing. Works great! It's cheaper than getting another Apple data cable and power adapter. My daughter used it to recharge her IPAD too. iSeries Home Charger for iPhone,iPhone 3G, iPods

The moment I got the product and plugged in to the outlet, next thing you know is that one of the leg was left in the outlet, this is not gonna work and some one is gonna get shocked by not knowing the metal object left in the outlet.

this charger fits perfect to my ipod3G it is a one piece configured item vs the apple is a two piece that is also a USB, But that charger runs approx 40$. I believe this is the best logical alternative to the actual apple charger. It seems so far to be very reliable and cost effective

Despite some negative reviews I decided to give this charger a try. I have an i-pnone 3gs, i-pod touch 4th generation and a 1st generation i-phone, charger works great on all of those, just like a regular apple charger. I think it's great for the price!

Purchased this charger for my daughters Ipod and my wifes Iphone 4. So far so good...we have used the charger successfully on both components without issue. The product shipped quickly...no negative issues to report.

My wife's IPhone 3G charger got stepped on and broke - so we had to get her a new one. This product was received quickly from Amazon and works very well. She can't tell a difference as far as how long her battery lasts from using the Apple charger compared to this. It appears to be sturdy and should last a long time. To me its better quality than the Apple chargers - We've went through 2 of them (although the 2nd one was not apples fault) - The first one's cord started to separate from end of the cable to plugs into the phone.
