I purchased this Surebonder 9600 stapler to use for completing an exterior remodeling job involving a lot of aluminum trim. I considered electric staplers but I needed the ability to finely regulate the striking force to make sure that the staples didn't shoot all the way through the aluminnum as well as that they didn't end up getting only partially sunk. Electric staplers don't provide very good regulation compared to an pneumatic/air tools. This stapler worked great. Worth every penney of its ridiculously cheap price. As far as I know Surebonder is the only company making an air powered stapler that is compatible with standard Arrow T50 fine wire staples. I highly recommend this product. So far I am happy with my 9600. It works great on many surfaces. But do not buy the staples with it. The ones Amazon advertised to go with the 9600 are surebonder 300-38-5m 3/8-inch 22 gauge upholstry staples. They DO NOT FIT. Amazon change your ad!!!! F.Y.I. go to a home improvement store and by the Arrow T-50 staples. They FIT and work great and are available in multiple lengths as well as light duty to heavy duty, Arrow also makes a rustproof staple!

Got this redo the seats on my jetskis. Works great. No more pushing like crazy to compensate for the kickback on electric staplers. I redid one seat w/ an electric and had probably 10% bad inserts. The seat base is pretty thick plastic and the staples loved to turn if you didn't give it major push when firing, but even then sometimes wouldn't go. No worries with this guy. Did a big seat and didn't have a single bad insert. Just hold this in place and let it rip, no upper body workout required. I've probably shot about 700 staples and it hasn't jammed yet or let a staple turn strange (except when I had bad angle, basically my fault). I'd definitely buy this again.

Picked this up for 28.60 shipped. I loaded standard, easy to find, Arrow T-50 narrow crown staples in and set my compressor to 100 psi (max it's rated for) since that is what my roofing gun likes to run at. This way I can run both guns off one tank setting on the roof. I sent two drops of pneumatic gun oil down the inlet. I also added a ball swivel connector (Lowes or Amazon) so that the hose flops around more freely off the gun. I then ran 200 staples through it into very old and hard fir and some super old oak at an unrealistic pace (fast as I and it could go) and it only fired a blank twice. What a great little machine. I need to restretch Harley seat leather on a plastic pan so I tested it on an old plastic pan with perfect results.



I'll add to this review for durability ratings after I've done an entire house roof with felt and batt insulation later this year, but with it's compact and sturdy construction I think it'll be fine for those applications. I have a lot of expensive quality tools, and this inexpensive little gun is going to probably turn into one of my favorites because it'll remind me that now and then you don't have to break the bank to get something that works the way it should. Great buy.



UPDATE: ONE YEAR AND ONE HOUSE LATER. This tool has never let me down and has been used extensively. It spent a lot of time on the roof getting tossed around. Insulation is a breeze - a standard hammer tacker is just too brute force around insulation. Bunch of other little projects. Tough little guy. It has jammed only once in thousands of staples and it was due to the air pressure being much too low, not the gun. If you shoot a blank, its about 99.9% certain you didn't have the little tongue depressed all the way.



Only one problem - this thing shoots staples so quickly and easily that you tend to blast through more staples than you need to.



UPDATE 21Mar2010: Still banging staples, and a pleasure to hook up to the hose. What a great little gun. Did that Harley seat modification and it worked fine sinking staples in the plastic seat pan. Have had three 'all-stop' jams in not less than 20,000 staples. One was the previously mentioned low air pressure. The others give the same result (a little piece of staple stuck on the firing pin). It is very obvious but it takes a little operation to pick that little wedged piece out of there. A non-issue really as the jams were simple to clear and who knows why the staples exploded... did they hit a nail, or was that particular staple a reject? I'll take one of those jams every now and then for a roughly thirty dollar gun, and 20k staples.

I am a DIYer and using this stapler to install insulation in the basement ceiling. The stapler is light and compact, and has worked perfectly well for me, no misfires. I have Milwaukee and Senco nailers, both high quality, and this stapler has so far worked as well as either of those, for a fraction of the price. The company has also re-worked their instruction manual so that it is now written in comprehensible English. The Arrow T50 staples I used worked just fine. Perhaps the only down side to this stapler is the capacity. It is so easy to use that I have fired more staples than the job might require, towards ensuring the insulation stays where I installed it. While Surebonder has a similar gun with greater staple capacity, at a slightly higher price, I am happy with mine despite having to replenish staples more frequently.



Update 11/24/08:

After approx 3,000 staples, the unit crapped out. I was 97% complete with a project stapling insulation to the basement ceiling and the unit seized and would no longer staple. Fortunately I had the old reliable Arrow stainless steel manual stapler to finish the 100 or so staples that completed my project. The Surebonder was great while it lasted, making my job so much easier, but 8 days and 3,000 staples later, I have an ungainly paperweight rather than a pneumatic stapler.



After advising Amazon of my plight and being told by them to go away, and contact the manufacturer, I had little choice but to do just that. I contacted the manufacturer to advise of my problem, and to my delight, they responded right away with an offer to repair the stapler. I was surprised at Amazon, but the manufacturer made up for it with their handling of the situation. Kudos to them.'

These small canary yellow Post-it Notes are an item I refuse to be without; for me they are the perfect size and colour. I use these notes constantly for everything from making telephone notes to stick-on calendar reminders. For me, the one star reviewer sort of misses the point, as my issue is not Amazon's price, but that I can obtain the darn things at all. You would think a pad of Post-its would be the same, whether you got it in a pack of 6, 12, or 24, right? Wrong! The pads in the 6-pack are only 300 sheets, significantly smaller than what I think of as a normal pad, which is probably more like 500 or 600 sheets. The price per pad for the 6-pack was much better than for the 12-pack or 24-pack, now I know why.

These Post-It notes work as advertised and are just the right size for all my little note needs. They adhere very nicely and can be easily removed without a trace of gumminess left on the paper. It's clear 3-M took the time to engineer these little marvels with precision and pride.



The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because, while the Amazon price was better than any local big box office supply store, the price could have been lower. Outside of that, great purchase :)

These actually stick and stay sticking until you take them off unlike other brands that stick until you turn your back and then they fall off the wall. Gotta love any product that actually does what it says it does. And, the size is great for short notes.

Needed something to get to $25 for free shipping. Description did not say how many sheets in a pad. I would have guessed 100 or more per pad. Turns out there are only 50 per pad. Interesting the the picture also blanks out the description on the bottom of the pack that gave this information. DON'T BUY THIS FROM AMAZON AT THE $3.99 PRICE. Pur Filter - pur, pur filter

I've been using this filter for many years now and we feel good that PUR filters filter out more unhealthy stuff in the water than other brands do. However, the new design for this replacement filter doesn't come with the red moving reminder (for you to know it's time to change the filter) anymore. I don't know the reason why PUR would give up such good design. Now they tell you to just change the filter after a certain time. I still think the reminder design is more accurate since it goes by how much water that's gone through the filter, not by how many days. PUR 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter, 2-Pack

I'm currently a college student living with 5 other guys and we use Brita filter at the apartment. When you cook with Brita filter, you can't taste a thing, but when you just drink the water, it taste like tap/toilet water. It also leaves those black stuff (part of the filter) on the bottom of the container. Personally, that's just weird and nasty, but maybe people like eating those filter-particles.



Back at home, my family use Pur water filter and I have to say, you can definitely taste the difference. I think that the water filtered by Pur taste like Fiji water. It's awesome. Instead of buying those ridiculously-good-looking bottled Fiji water, I bought huge water containers and take water filtered from home to my school apartment and just drink it myself.



The only downside of Pur water filter is that it costs more than Brita filter. Being an Economics major, I calculated the cost of water per gallon (filtered). With each filter (Pur or Brita), it filters 40 gallons of water. Pur cost $24.99 for a 3-pack (Amazon.com), this means that it costs $.208 to filter a gallon of water (excluding the cost of water itself). Brita filter cost $15.99 for a 3-pack (Amazon.com), this means that it costs $.133 to filter a gallon of water (36% cheaper than Pur). Although it costs more, I still think it's worth the money. I rather spend the extra $.075 per gallon of water than to drink toilet water.

Original Review(12/25/06): I ordered 11 boxes of these and confirmed before ordering from PUR200 product manual that it will work. PUR200 came with the filter which has a red indicator that moves as you consume water/filter. I bought this knowing that this filter (CRF-950Z) does *not* have the red indicator. However after putting the filters in, the top water bucket does not seat properly. These filters are about .25 inch taller than the one with red indicator.



This is a major inconvenience and really is the fault of PUR. They should specify the PUR water coolers this filter will work in. It may very well work fine in filters where it will fit properly.



Update 12/27/2006: I called 800-PUR-LINE and just spoke to Procter & Gamble about this issue. They said they are aware of this problem and CRF-950Z will not fit water cooler(and likely any water cooler) made by KAZ(PUR200, PUR300). They also mentioned that they dont know how long it will be before this problem is rectified. In effect, there are no filters available for this unit right now. One has to wonder about the quality control at PG/KAZ. At least these guys should issue a product recall on this.

In my recently deleted review, I praised these PUR filters for their performance and the Automatic Safety Monitor. Removing the Monitor has now made the filter much less reliable.



PUR claims in an email reply that consumers prefer the calendar sticker to the Automatic Safety Monitor:

The newest reviews here are a more realistic reflection of how the average and once-loyal PUR customer feels. A calender sticker doesn't know the difference between a single user, a couple like my wife and me, and a thirsty family of six. People who rely on a PUR pitcher or dispenser for health reasons must now be especially careful to monitor the filter life themselves. Throwing out a filter before it needs to be replaced is expensive and wasteful. Using a filter past the end of its life will put impurities back into the water.



The filter's overall performance is on a par with competitors but the Automatic Safety Monitor was PUR's strongest selling point. Sad to say, Procter & Gamble has turned the innovator in water filtration into another also-ran.

This item is actually great. But, beware. Iordered this item thinking it is going to be the CRF-950L like they advertise. But I was sent out the CRZ-950Z instead. They are the same filter, except that the L as a monitor top as it says in the description and the box has the word Ultimate on it. The 950Z has neither feature. Again, they are the same filter (as far as I can tell), but this is not what is advertised nor what I purchased. I am now on my second return with Amazon and will continue to return it untill they send me the correct item.



**EDIT 10-28-06** Well I have returned this item several times and got no where with amazon. The item was supposedly unavailable the last week or so and now has been brought back with a different picture and is now listed as a 950Z. But, beware the description still list it has having a monitor. The 950Z does not have a monitor to let you know when to change the filter. This is not the first time that I have noticed discription problems with Amazon. Though neither were so bad that I could not use the items, they were just not as expected or slightly off as described. - Pur - Pur Filter'

"Adam Smith", author of the engrossing and witty book "The Money Game" and the entertaining, if not enthralling "Supermoney", returns to the scene to write this rather dull treatise on the 1970's. While he retains a bit of the wit and sparkle of his earlier books, "Smith" becomes quickly bogged down by OPEC, a force he can understand but not comprehend. His understanding comes from the historical perspective - he writes an informative and enlightening, though not entertaining, history of the organization. However, he tends to focus on the purchasing power of the OPEC countries, rather than realizing that OPEC had reached a peak in it's power by the time his book was published. Granted, we cannot expect Mr. Smith to have predicted what would happen to OPEC. On the other hand, he surely cannot have thought that the US would be reduced to supplying military equipment to the new Arabic superpowers (this, he implies, is essentially the only way we can attain anything approaching an import/export balance with Saudi Arabia). A few chapters are spent on real estate, the market for which Mr. Smith thinks is now controlled by speculators and people attempting to hedge against inflation. He decides that the long bull market in housing has finally ended. Alas for Mr. Smith's reputation, it has yet to do so, with the median price for a home increasing every year since his book was written (as it had done every year before). Mr. Smith, however, manages to redeem himself near the end of the book, when he makes his stock market prediction. At the time he wrote the book, the Dow was at 900. He predicted that within ten years, it would rise to 2700, an amazingly accurate guess. However, in reading his reasons for a prediction, we can see that his bullishness has almost nothing to do with what actually moved the market. Overall, this book is worthwhile only to the true Adam Smith fanatic or to someone trying to thouroughly research the economic situation of the 1970's. Paper Money

I have read this book twice, once in college as an economics major, shortly after it was released, and again a few weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoyed both times. Although Smith rambles at times, it is an entertaining and informative look at macroeconomics in the 70's and teaches things that you won't find in Economics 101 textbooks. If you like reading about these matters, you'll find this book enlightening and fun. If you don't, there may be enough anecdotes, and such, to keep your interest through the book, but it won't be enjoyable for you. (There's a reason they call economics "the dismal science.")

In the 1970s, the world economy suffered heavily from brutal spikes in the oil price.

One of the culprits was OPEC, which was formed on the model of the 'Texas Railroad Commission'.

The rise in the oil price provoked an enormous wealth transfer from the oil consuming to the oil producing countries.

Moreover, the oil consuming countries were confronted with the choice between higher taxes or printing money and chose for the latter. But in the US, the bill of the Vietnam War was still not paid. It all ended in stagflation, a mighty drop of the dollar (`my swissies') and a real estate bust.



Adam Smith gives us also a brilliant course on the origin of banks and money.



This book reads like a thriller and is a must read for all those interested in the economy of the 1970s in the West.



For an in depth analysis of the oil crises, I highly recommend the book by F. William Engdahl `A Century of War.'

I first read this book back when it came out, and have reread it twice over the years since. It's lessons continue to be relevant. I have to say that some of the other reviews I've read here, leave me scratching my head as to how they could find it boring, or complain in one case that the book gets boughed down talking about OPEC. Gold, the oil industry, OPEC, and their effects on the economy are the whole point of the book! Like anything else, I guess, you take out what you put in. So, don't read this book if you aren't interested in knowing how these worked then, and continue to work now in shaping the economic realities we all struggle to coexist with.

This is a great book. Written in '80 (pub date 81) it analyzes the underlying economy that gave rise to the late 70's 'stagflation'. It does not give a prescription for investing in such a period (which appears to be returning) but allows the astute reader to study the economic policies put in place in the 80's that "cured" the country.



The author has a wonderful, positive voice that makes reading this economic text a pleasure.

This book written in the early eighties really spelled out what is happening today in regard to the foreclosures and the price of oil and why it is so high. After reading this book I realize the American Dollar is worthless on the world market. Everyone should read this book!

What a surprise! Just read this book to discover that the present economical crisis started when US become involved with OPEC. Read this book as if the dates were 2008. You will see that the world is in real trouble. An excellent introduction to US dependency on easy money and credit.

I have no idea what the author was trying to say. I spend 90 minutes reading it and I pray I havent lost more than 2 or 3 million brain cells trying to digest it. If you have insomnia, try reading this book before you go to sleep. - Opec'

I purchased this HDMI Auto Switch last month, and it works just perfectly. I connected my TiVo HD DVR and DVD recorder up to this switch and into my HD TV, so that both of my components could share a single HDMI connection, and it works like a charm. Anytime that I want to watch a DVD, I only power on the DVD recorder, and the switcher automatically switches from the TiVo DVR to the DVD recorder. When I power off the DVD recorder, the switcher automatically switches back to the DVR, just like the product description on this Amazon.com site states.



I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone and everyone out there who have multiple devices with an HDMI connection. The great advantage to having this HDMI switcher is that the user does NOT have to physically get up and push any buttons on the switcher just to use one of their HDMI connected components like their DVD recorder, DVR, etc. This HDMI Auto Switch sure beats the heck out of other HDMI switchers that require the user to physically get up and PUSH the buttons on the switcher just to use a different HDMI connected device.



To all out there with multiple HDMI connected devices, this product is an AWESOME buy for YOU. HDMI 3-In 1-Out HDMI Auto Switch with 1.5 ft. Cable

This is the product for you if you need a cheap but reliable solution to lack of HDMI inputs on your HDTV. No more getting up, turning everything off, and swapping cables back there.

Works exactly as advertised. I have a (few years old) OPPO DVD upconvert player and issued COMCAST HD DVR plugged into the adapter.

Turning on the DVD player automatically switches the input to DVD. Turning off the DVD player automatically switches back to TV. Couldn't be simpler. No problems yet.

Not sure why you would need to spend $50-150 on an HDMI switch box...

Works as advertized. Perfect if you need multiple HDMI inputs with auto switching ability. Some electronics do not always switch entirely off so this may confuse it's selection process. Not the fault of this device, however.

This device is not what I need. The unit creates strong signal noise which transfers to the screen of my HDTV. I was able to prevent this, but running one HDMI cable behind an sheet of aluminum and the other cable in front of the aluminum sheet. This should not be necessary for the unit to work properly. It was not the cables either, because the manual switch I replaced it with didn't need the sheet of aluminum while still using the same cables. Additional observations are that the light on the switch is too bright for low light level TV viewing. It is very distracting. The sound from my DVR and DVD player come through half the time, but I had to restart the DVR and DVD systems several times to bring sound back when I would lose it. If you are buying this for automatic switching, I would recommend looking for a more expensive device. I seldom rate merchandise poorly, but this one really disappointed me.

The switch works as described; however, the technical details are not accurate. This item is listed as a category 2 with a rating of 10.2 Gbps. The clamshell packaging clearly states "High performance up to 2.5 Gbps."



I chose this model because my PS3 will get the best hookup at anything over 6.68 Gbps, and my current HDMI cable is rated high enough to give me the best quality image and sound. I was therefore quite disappointed to learn that this switch will not transmit as well as my cable alone.



Otherwise, the switch does a great job of transferring between my various components automatically. I just wish that it ran at the speed that was listed.

I use this to connect my DirecTV DVR, my Xbox 360, and my Windows 7 Media Center PC. The fact that it automatically changes to the input that is powered on is invaluable. This product does exactly what it says it does. I've used it every day since I bought it. I tell people about this all the time.



UPDATE 2010- This device is still working perfectly 2 years later. It's so good that I felt the need to update the review. I'm buying another one for the TV in my new "man cave." The autoswitching is EXACTLY what I need for my wife. She just turns on the DVD player and it switches the input automatically. No messing with remotes or manually changing the input on the TV. I can't tell you how perfect this thing is. I'm ordering another one now.

I didn't feel like paying $100.00 at Best Buy for similar devices that also required a power supply (no more wires, please!) so I did a little research and found this unit here on Amazon.

This gadget works beautifully without external power; it even does the switching for you, that is if you have only one output device powered up at a time. If more than one output device is powered, you must use the selector button to choose what gets displayed.

I use it on my Gateway XHD3000 monitor to switch between an XBOX 360 and a PS3, and regardless of which console I power up, it will automatically detect the output signal and display the active console.

Really nice!

This presenter is great for on-the-go presentations. It is easy to carry around and I love that the usb stick fits into the back of the remote. I am a teacher and it is perfect for me to use when I am presenting to my class 2-3 times a week. I would highly recommend it!!! Swissgear Wireless Mobile Laser Presenter

I have received the presenter only today evening. So, it may be immature to do the judgement on durability part. But, the presenter is working as per its promise from long distance. The forward and backward button also works for browsing PDF, Word document. Any Image slide show is also working fine with the presenter. I am happy with it.

I conduct safety training using MS Powerpoint (who doesn't?!), and had been looking for a decent remote with laser pointer that wasn't too pricey. Since I train in a factory, there's a very real chance that it could get torn up, and I needed to be able to replace it relatively cheaply. I saw some negative reviews, mainly about battery life, but figured I'd take a chance because of the price. Wow! Plugged it in, brought up my slideshow, and off we went! Easy to skip back and forth, which I need since I'm a bit ADHD and I like to bounce around. I also like the screen blank feature, for when I stand front & center and rant. The laser pointer was where I was surprised, since I'd seen some back-and-forth, but for me it works great! Strong light, dot isnt' blurry at all, and decent range (only needed ~10 feet). As to the batteries, I have to say this: TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU'RE NOT USING IT. Seriously, it's a laser pointer, so I don't know what kind of battery life people expect. I've used it a lot, and still no problems, I just have to remember to turn it off before I store it so buttons don't get pressed and run the batteries down.



So, if you need a laser pointer and controller for MS-PPT with more-than-basic functions and low price, I can't recommend this enough!

This is a convenient pocket presentation tool. It plugs in to any laptop I have used (indcluding those machines locked down by IT) and works without having admin rights. The button cells work for a shorter time than with AA or even AAA cells, but they are available at $ Tree, so not so bad. It feels a bit odd in the hand without the USB dongle, but you get used to it.



Pros:

Not too expensive

Laser built in, so only one thing to hold

On/Off switch, saves batteries

Has a B key for blanking/black on the screen

No mouse control, easy for novice presenters to use

Don't need admin rights to use (most are this way, but the real fancy ones are not.)



Cons:

Limited range from receiver (13 meters or so)

Shorter battery life

Has an escape key to get you out of the PPT presentation. This is a minus for me, because I often have the presentation computer some ways away, and I am not always the one using the device to run the presentation. Seminars with multiple speakers.

No mouse control. Annoying for experienced presenters.

This device worked well out of the box. Mine is used fairly often and spare batteries need to be kept on hand. In some locations it works quite well, in others not at all (not a computer issue, just space and range), and in others, it works sometimes or with multiple clicks. The battery cap won't stay on anymore, and the transmitter (that nests in the clicker unit next to the battery compartment when not in use) won't stay in anymore. The laser pointer is tough on the button batteries. For occasional use with the above caveats, good for the price. I got what I paid for.

I have had two of these now. The first one I had purchased after seeing it sitting on a shelf at a local store. Love the thing as it just plain worked and worked well. Never had any problem with it not doing what I wanted or skipping ahead. It just works and the size is really good. It is comfortable to use and the batteries lasted me many of presentations. I do a lot of sales and marketing presentations, sometimes 2-3 times a week.



Others who had borrowed it loved it as well. They would always ask how much I paid and they were shocked.



The only reason I had to get a second one was due to my lone complaint. The battery cover came off one day, who knows where, and due to the type of batteries it would not longer work. This is a flaw with the product as the battery cover can come off a bit too easy. One my second one I put a small strip of clear tape over the top edge of the cover. You can not see it there so it does not look bad, but the issue is taken care of.



For the price and how well it has worked, it is a minor inconvenience.

The batteries for this are as expensive as buying a new presenter. They do not last very long and the presenter has a habit of getting turn on when left in a bag. Engaging for the child. Mostly math and language activities of differnt types, styles, and complexities. Tasks get progressively harder toward the new school year. A good general purpose review and prep to keep skills fresh and build a few new ones before schools starts in August. Moderately well-illustrated. Encourages independent reading and offers a suggested reading list--though parents should review any of these books for appropriateness for their child. Books off this list that increase vocabulary and reading skill without frustrating your child are also very appropriate. The key is for the child to enjoy reading challenging materials--let your child choose what interests them as much as possible. Summer Bridge Activities: 3rd to 4th Grade

My daughter completed at least one full page Monday through Friday this past summer and tested the highest in her 4th grade class this fall in reading and in math. She has always been a strong reader, but lacking in confidence in her math skills. We'll continue to use this book during school vacations, and the next book this coming summer.

The Summer Bridge Activity series of books is an excellent way for kids to have fun and learn during the summer. I have used the book with three of my children at different grade levels. My children have continually entered the school year tops in their classes. I would recommend these books to any parents who are interested in their childs learning abilities. Great books.

Workbook is a fairly comprehensive coverage of basics of third grade. As with all supplementary material, parents/teachers may want to highlight specific subjects that students need help. I found the pace to be appropriate for summer days, and the writing exercises with prompts help even the most reluctant writers to try! I recommend this book to the parents of my incoming fourth grade students.

My soon-to-be 4th grader has been working through the book this summer, and we have found it to be very rewarding. The math and reading exercises are age-appropriate and he has enjoyed doing them. I also like the suggestions for other activities through the summer. Just remember to remove the answer pages before leaving your child alone with the book! Normally we worked through the book together but one day I left for a few minutes, and was surprised by a fast and perfect completion of the day's work!

I have used the Summer Bridges workbooks with my children for several years. The review is very nice for them, and working with them helps me to know where they need extra help.



I ask them to do one page of "morning work" from the book each day. They have ADD, so some days it takes all morning to get it done.



Unfortunately, my children hate doing the work. It is difficult to convince them that it is worth their trouble.



I'd love to hear ideas for making it a little more fun.

I have been using these workbooks in my preschool program during the summer for 5 years now and even my son's Catholic School are now highly recommending them to work out of over the summer. I will never to with any other work book than Summer Bridges and the price was very reasonable for the size of the workbook!

As a third grade teacher, I have found this series to be an excellent summer review program. It takes my own children about 15 minutes to do their pages each day, while providing critical review in reading, grammar, and math.
