I've studied Latin, German, Japanese, and French using various popular methods. This course with its accompanying audio and workbook materials is the best language course that I have ever attempted on my own. Most self-study language courses are either too simple to be of practical use or focus so much on grammar and sentence construction that they turn into drudgery after a few lessons. Unless the course material is engaging, it's very hard to continue the course with no mid-term or final exams as motivation. Both in this text and in the exercise book, there is a constant use of words that the student has yet to learn and are often not in the glossary. There are also many mistakes in grammar throughout. TERMINAL INVASION



How lucky was I that on the same day Bruce Campbell's "My Name is Bruce" came out that the long awaited DVD release of the Sci-Fi channel classic "Terminal Invasion" also starring Bruce came out. I have had this movie recorded on vhs for ever, since it debuted on the Sci-Fi Channel years ago. So of course we watched this movie as part of our marathon that ended with "My Name is Bruce", this one right before it since I bought them at the same time. Now I must say that this is a classic with out a doubt but I mean that in the sense that it is a classic for the Sci-Fi Channel, think about it this film had a low budget and also was restrained by being a TV movie. So with that said for a TV movie this is by far a classic in my mind



Deep in the mountains a car is pushing threw a snow storm trying to reach its destination in time, the reason is they are carrying a convict [Campbell] and transporting him to another prison. While driving they crash into a tree and are forced to find shelter else where, the find a small airport full of people who are stuck waiting for the storm to pass. Naturally they are not happy that they are in the company of a convicted murderer, still they must deal with it. Once everything is set up we meet a preacher who talks with the cops and prisoner in the bathroom but all is not what it seems, turns out the preacher is a creature [that rhymes] from another planet. Of course after he kills the guards are reluctant hero [Campbell] kills the alien, naturally all the people there swear he killed them as there is no trace of the preacher [they disintegrate after they die]. So from here the movie goes into a kind of who is who type film since no one knows who else could be an alien, of course that is after the witness them for them selves. So they all must survive the night and each other in order to make it out alive, if they can trust each other.



I love the story behind this film it really is an entertaining plot and keeps you guessing as well as to who is who. Writers Lewis Abernathy, John Jarrell, and Robinson Young should be credited for their story line because it really is quite good. Sure the dialogue could use some work and some of the characters seem flat, but hey this is a Sci-Fi Channel made for TV movie. Also director Sean S. Cunningham who is famous for the original Friday The 13th movie does a good job with this movie and keeps things moving nicely and keeps you guessing on who's who. I can't say enough good things about this movie since I enjoyed so much, sure it is low budget but it is what it is. Sure at times the film doesn't make sense, but I won't give things away. Still this is an enjoyable movie that even with its flaws makes for a good time.



Bruce Campbell of course does a great job as Jack the convict who must rise up to help them make it through the night. He gives another great performance on another low budget flick that honestly may not have been as good with out him, ok it would not have been. Kedar Brown also turns in a good performance as Darian and that is all I can say on him, can't ruin it. C. David Johnson does a good job as well as does most of the other cast but to be honest some of them need to go back to class, hate to say that but it is true. Most of the cast turn in believable performances but the ones who do not know how to make the flat characters come to life struggle. With that said it is still a fun movie that actually is not easy to predict as far as whom are aliens, and that is true.



Over all I really believe that for this type of film this is a classic in that realm, and you should buy it. The DVD comes with a wonderful commentary from director Sean S. Cunningham and executive producer Chuck Simon, both speak not only of the film and the actors but also what everyday people can do now a days to get into the business and learn. This was a wonderful film and a classic Sci-Fi flick, come one and all and purchase this film. Terminal Invasion

With any flick that's made for the Sci-Fi Channel, you pretty much know what you're going to get. Terminal Invasion would typically fall under this category, except for the fact that it stars Bruce "Evil Dead" Campbell, and he alone makes this worth watching. Campbell stars as a death-row convict who, along with a small group of people, are stranded as a nasty blizzard rolls in. Things go from bad to worse however when it is revealed that there are aliens in disguise among the group, and it isn't long before they all start wondering who's who and the body count starts to mount. As said before, Terminal Invasion would fall under the usual kind of Sci-Fi Channel drek, but Campbell manages to save it, regardless of the budget limitations and sloppy direction from original Friday the 13th helmer Sean S. Cunningham. All in all, Terminal Invasion is really only worth seeing if you're a Bruce Campbell fan, and you all know who are. Also featuring Star Trek: Deep Space Nine vet Chase Masterson and Daily Show correspondant Jason Jones.

Bruce has done a number of B Science Fiction movies, and this is one of the better ones. You will have fun with all his B movies but this one stands out a little more because of a good story, great cast, and expert directing. Production values are excellent and help the movie feel real. You will feel you're at the airport with the rest the passengers waiting to board a small plane. Bruce is a prisoner that we know has murdered someone, but not the circumstances. He is being transported from jail to another location when they wreck in a snowstorm. They end up at the airport along with a bunch of stranded people wanting to fly out. The heavy snow isn't the worst of their worries, an alien taking human form is killing people. Problem is poor Bruce gets blamed for it. My rating is closer to three and a half stars, but for Bruce I round up. If you like some comedy with your SciFi, you will probably enjoy it. If you're a Bruce Campbell fan, you'll love it. I think this one fits into the Bruce Cult category. Good quality DVD with plenty of replayability. If you enjoyed this catch "Bubba Ho-Tep". This dropped dramatically in price by at least ten dollars. I highly recommend you grab this one whether you are Bruce Campbell fan or you just enjoy a good B SciFi.

Smartphone Case - defender, iphone 4 case

I waited anxiously for Otterbox to release this case and ordered mine within minutes of receiving the "Defender Released" e-mail. I received the case on Friday and I must admit, it did not disappoint.



First impressions: The case is of great quality and a lot of detail went into making it compatible with all the OEM "accessories". The holster is among the best I've seen for a phone of this size and works perfectly with the case.



After carrying it for two days (and this is already my 3rd iPhone 4 case - I am rough on my phones): The case is without a doubt the most durable I've seen for the iPhone 4 and lives up to the reputation that Otterbox has built over the years.



Cons: The case does add considerable bulk to the phone and may not be perfect for pocket carriers. It does include a holster which works great and can rotate for vertical or parallel carrying of the phone.





Miscellaneous: I have no complaints really, but I am left to wonder if the silicone "flaps" that cover the earphone and USB plug-ins could have been a little more user-friendly. Sometimes they are frustrating to get back into their proper "closed" position.



Edited one month after using: I am still extremely happy with the case. I have dropped my phones a few times already and though the case is starting to show signs the abuse I have provided it the phone still looks pristine! I opened up the case this morning to clean the phone etc and to my surprise there wasn't much to clean. With cases I've owned in the past I would have a forest of lint, dust etc. that would trap itself between the case and the phone. The Otterbox has minimized that debris!





I am uploading several photos showing the difference between a "bare" iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4 in the Defender case so everyone can get an idea of how much "protection" and in turn "bulk" this case adds to the phone.



Edited to add: Amazon removed my pictures when the placed the phone back in a "pre-order" status, I will re-upload them again once they allow. I'm not sure why they state "pre-order" when it should state "Back-ordered, will deliver in xx to xx weeks", but I digress. OtterBox Defender Case iPhone 4 (Blue/Black, Fits AT&T iPhone 4)

Otterbox defender for my iPhone 3Gs was the best thing I ever did for that phone! It fell into and was completely submerged in a 5 gallon pot of BBQ sauce - and rinsed off with the sprayer in the sink. Phone continued to operate flawlessly!



As soon as I bought iPhone 4 - I immediately ordered an otterbox case for it. It took over a month to arrive and when it finally did - I could immediately tell it did not offer the same amount of protection as the Otterbox for the 3Gs.



I'm constantly fighting the rubber covering -- if I pull it out of my pocket I have to push it back into place all the way around the phone.



The screen protector is better -- the bubbles are gone from the previous version. I like that.



The flaps that cover the charger port and headphone jack suck! They never stay in place and to get them to lock down is a pain. Debris can easily infiltrate into the case through these openings. I find that I have to take the phone completely out of the case and clean the phone and the case more often than I ever did with the other phone/otterbox.



Maybe they were just in a hurry to get a case that would fit the quick arrival of iPhone4. I hope the case is revamped and the thought is completed. I really need and want the kind of protection and rugged durability that the other case provided for 3Gs.



Regardless of what I hate about this case, it's still the BEST case that you can put on the new iPhone 4 if you're hard on your phone. Just wish it was better...

**** 02/12 update: I bought an AT&T case to get one fast at a discount and it works fine until the price drops on the universal case. The Verizon silent mode button is partially covered so if you use silent mode a lot and have big fingers, you might want to wait or buy from the manufacturer. The headphone jack doesn't align quite right with my Verizon phone, but just open the silicone port. And now this is a genuine five star review. I really like this case. It is sturdy and protective, looks stylish, feels comfortably grippy and it was easy to install the phone. Box directions are minimal but Otterbox has a simple video that takes you through it. *****



I just called Otterbox and a very nice lady in Customer Service says they have a universal design ready to fit both AT&T and Verizon phones, to be released 02/10/11. I suppose Amazon will have these as well. Hope they do all the same colors.



Important to know because the Verizon iPhone has some ports and controls in a slightly different place than its AT&T sister and this case would not fit both phones.



Just thought you should know. Glad I did some research before I bought this one. Yes, I know this isn't a real review but not everyone reads comments. At least I'm not one of those tiresome people who posts a one star review because something went wrong with the shipping.

Because you WILL drop your phone. Thats the slogan I would use if I was Otterbox. You will drop it, many times. It amazes me how many people think they are above dropping their phone. The iphone4 is a slippery devil and you must protect it. When I first saw the case in an AT&T store I knew that someone had finally got it right. However, at 50 bucks, I knew I could get it cheaper online (and did). The case is very attractive (the white is a bit more of a greyish white and I honestly think it improves the appearance of my already attractive Iphone 4. All the buttons work perfectly (I swear I think its more responsive now and it keeps debris and dust outta all the ports.



If you are willing to spend 10 bucks on a case, then you should be willing to spend more to truly protect your phone. This is the only solution that i've seen to keeping your expensive Iphone, clean, safe, and functioning at all times. Pneumatic Floor Nailer - cpo bostitch, staplers

I purchased the MIIIFS stapler to lay approximately 1,700 sq. ft. of 3/4 inch red oak flooring in my new home. After installing well over 1,400 sq. ft. here are some of my observations:1) The tool makes it very easy for a novice to put down a nice, tight hardwood floor. If the boards are laying tight an easy swing of the mallet is all it takes to fully seat a staple (more on this later). If the board is warped the MIIIFS can stand up to a solid mallet smack without any trouble. The mallet's plastic face, by the way, does not show any signs of cracking so far.2) The stapler efficiently uses the its air so you do not need a big compressor. I have been using a 1.5 hp unit with a 6 gallon tank. Output is set at 85 psi. I doubt such a small compressor could supply two nailers simultaneously, but it handles one quite nicely.3) The stapler did develop a small air leak near the top shortly after I began using it. The amount of leaking is small (based on psi drop at the compressor) but does make a distracting noise. This leak does not affect the function or reliability.4) At your starting wall you need to face nail the flooring until you get about 6 inches from the wall. After that you'll have enough room to get the stapler into position.5) As you approach the far wall the stapler can be used up to the last 13 or 14 inches.6) As mentioned earlier the tool only requires an easy mallet smack. However, if you don't swing firmly enough the staple will not seat fully. This is usually caused by crowding against the far wall and not having enough room to swing the mallet.7) The firing knob is too stiff to actuate by hand reliably - the mallet is required. It would have been nice if there was a way to trigger the stapler by hand then you could use it much closer to the far wall.8) I have not had any problems with jamming. The unit I've been using has reliably shot every staple right down to the very last one in the magazine.9) I have heard some rumors of staple-style flooring nailers damaging the floor's tongue. After closely examining several hundred staples in oak I'd say that about 2 or 3 percent show any signs of tongue damage. Some of this infrequent damage is due to stapling through a knot or due to handling. Some is due to the MIIIFS. I'm not sure how this compares to nail-style nailers. Anytime you send a fastener through kiln dried hardwood you're bound to have some occassional splitting.Would I buy the MIIIFS again? You bet I would. Despite its few minor shortcomings this tool has saved me a LOT of work and the price is lower than other pnuematic nailers that I've looked at. As a professional building contractor I have tried several flooring tools, and can easily state that this is the best fastening system I have experienced for both unfinished and prefinished flooring. The staples hold better than cleat nails, and result in far less tongue splits as well. Surface marring and excessive tongue splitting are caused by improper or inexperienced operation of the tool, not by the tool itself.

I run a hardwood flooring company in Wyoming and have 3 of these units running all the time...They are durable and very dependable...we have been experiencing problems with the nuts and bolts holding the bottom plate on. Several of these bolts are in hard to reach areas and come loose and fall out several times a day. I would recommend this item to anyone, but I also would recommend that you buy a bottle of LockTite at the same time, And go through and LockTite all of the bolts, Other than that this is a awesome unit, We have one that is one of the very first air assist bostich nailers and it is still running strong. I purchased this nailer from Amazon to lay 3/4" hardwood flooring in several rooms in my house. I have since fired about 5000 staples through it without any problems whatsoever. This stapler is very well designed ergonomically and mechanically. The mallet is big and somewhat massive in weight but there is a purpose in that. It takes very little effort and just a slight tap to drive a staple because it is pneumatic. So if a board lays nice and straight, then a slight tap will suffice, but if you have a somewhat uncooperative piece of flooring, then you will appreciate the heft of the mallet because it will cause the most finicky of boards to come together and lay tightly. The handle is long and fits well in your hand. Consequently your not bent over as much. My first floor laid was oak and I've started my second which is brazillian cherry. This wood is extremely heavy and dense. This stapler does not care how hard the wood is, it just works and flawlessly at that. After all isn't that what you want from a tool, flawless performance!

I've installed thousands of feet of hardwood with the M111FS and it has, so far, worked flawlesly. The hammer activated model does a nicer job than the older trigger activated one. The light mallet blow required is just enough to drive the board being fastned tightly against the existing work for a tight joint and at the same time offering resistance against the driving mechanisum to insure uniform and propper seating of the staple.

I have received (2) Staplers and both units developed identical operating problem within (5) hours operating time. A small air leak developed upper section below rubber driving cap. Shortly after air leak developed 8 to 10 staples, units stopped operating.I have checked operating procedures and have found no problem. Have discussed problem with other users that had rented unit from Home Depot and was told they experienced absoultely no problem. Even after 20 hours of hard use, rented unit operated perfectly for them. I have request another unit and am in the process of shipping these defected (2) Units back. Also have e-mailed Bostitch and requested technical support.

If you have ever used a hard wood nailer that wasn't pnuematic, you'll want all that time back once you get your hands on one of these. Fast and easy to use. I've used one for years with no problems or regrets. - Bostitch - Staplers - B000f3i5zy - Cpo Bostitch'

Tomtom Dashboard Mount - gps dashboard mount, tomtom

After many hours of shopping for a GPS for my car I settled on a TomTom model XL 330 S. Being brand new to these navigation systems I didn't think I needed anything more sophisticated. I think I made a great choice and I'm very happy with the brand and model I chose. What I'm not nearly as happy with is the TomTom GPS Dashboard Mount for TomTom GPS Navigators I bought at the same time. It looks like it's made well enough, as it's heavy and substantial, but when you try to attach the GPS's suction cup to it to try to anchor the GPS to it, there is just no way! I removed the protective film that protects the surface on the mounting plate from scratching during shipment and cleaned the surface with an alcohol swab they include. I cleaned the suction cup on the back of the XL 330 and tried it again, no better result. I still am using the Dashboard Mount but now the plate which is attached to my GPS sits "under" the Mount as it is heavy enough to keep it from moving too far. A brick would serve the same purpose, but would scratch your dashboard and wouldn't look as nice. Then again the Dashboard Mount looks kind of goofy too. This works but I don't think it is made for the 4.3 inch GPS that I have. It must be for the smaller one because my GPS doesn't fit well into the center of the mount. It would probably work for the smaller one however. Seems like that should have been clarified before I purchased it.

The TomTom GPS Dashboard Mount seemed like a great idea... it provides a way for the GPS to sit on the dashboard and is easily removed when you park without anything permanent on the dash or window. The problem is the GPS keeps falling off the mount! The GPS has a suction cup on the bottom of the attachment but it does not stay (stick) on the mount...no matter how we did it. I finally bought industrial strength velcro which I attached to the suction cup and to the mount, which works! I shouldn't have had to do that. TomTom has had complaints about this before... they should be the one to fix it!

I love my dash mount for my Tom-Tom. Attachments to the windshield can leave that tell-tale "footprint", an invitation to a break in. I grab the dash mount, I can put the whole thing in my trunk, under the dash behind a bag, nobody knows there is a GPS in the car. It's easier to adjust for the proper viewing, and I find it much less obstructing than the windshield mounts.

The Amazon webpage for this item reads "This mount works with all TomTom products..." Not True! I have the TomTom GO 720 widescreen, and it is way too big for the dash mount. Now I have to go the trouble of returning it. Amazon should change the ad copy.

The TomTom attaches to this with suction and when it's cold, the suction doesn't work. It attaches initially but then the cold makes the rubbery plastic shrink and it falls off, often with the GPS unit still attached! I tossed the box or I would return it!



When it's not especially cold, it works but I haven't had the chance to try it in very warm weather. I suspect it will be ok but not being able to use it 1/4 of the year makes this a fail for me.

I bought one of these beanbag mounts as I am in a rental car around 3 times a month and I wanted my own GPS rather than pay to rent one. I have a TomTom Go-930 which is not small but which comes with a short fixed arm on a suction mount. When I tried to attach the mount to the beanbag - I found that the power cable which is on the underside of the Go930 actually protruded below the level of the beanbag. The plug rested on the beanbag base and the Go930 bounced off the mount.

I had 2 spare mounting disks - so I stuck them one on the other then onto the base of the beanbag. This lifted the base of the Go930 sufficiently that the beanbag now worked. It must be said that it works well and doesn't leave a suction cup 'ring' on the windshield that attracts car thieves.



It is amazing that the designers did not step through the TomTom product line checking such a basic design issue as whether the suction arms lifted the GPS high enough. This amounts to just careless design.



Finally - as I said at the beginning I bought the beanbag so that I could use the GPS on rental cars - only I fly to where I pick up the cars. TSA go into bad wobble-mode when they see this thing on their x-rays and call for a check on lane. If you do need to travel with it - carry it separately through security in its own tray like a laptop. It doesn't stop the wobble mode but at least they don't insist on emptying your carry-on.

Thanks to this gadget, I was able to overcome the problems created by TomTom's poorly designed mounting bracket that is far too short for the GPS and it's connector at the bottom. The bad design of the bracket that came with my TomTom, results in the GPS hitting the dash unless you tip it up at about a 45 degree angle, which sure makes it ridiculous to use and see.



TomTom gives you a disk for mounting their GPS on top of the dash where its easier to reach, etc., and less apt to fall (when it's stuck on the windshield), but the short arm on their bracket and range of the ball-joint makes it essentially impossible to mount it there! As a retired engineer, my opinion is that their bracket was a really dumb design. (I tried to point this out to TomTom but they did not really get back to me!)



This clever weighted dashboard mount allowed me to move the GPS closer to me to where I could hang the bottom of the GPS and power connection over the front edge of the dash, where no longer hit the top of the dash. This also brings the GPS a lot closer to you than when it's mounted on the windshield where its much easier to reach to use. Mounting the GPS makes it a lot less prone to fall off and get damaged since there is also less strain on the suction cup.



Another nice feature is that it makes it easy to pick up the whole

kaboodle and hide it somewhere when you park the car. GPS units are a great incentive target for car breakins, and hiding everything makes that a lot less likely. According to the police, you don't want to even leave the mounting bracket in plain site and this mount makes hiding it very easy.

This is an excellent book for anyone who dreams of being a veterinarian, like me. The book talks about all types of different veterinarians, such as holistic, large animal, small animal, and more. This is a great book and a must read for anyone interested in going into the veterinary field. I Want to Be a Veterinarian

considering that i want to be a vet, i guess you could say that any book i read is "outstanding", but i really give this book nothing but loud cheers for the way it makes you almost "weak" i love animals so much and i always watch "Emergency Vets" on Animal Planet and i even volunteer at an animal hospital in La Jolla, Ca. i love being around animals, and my dream is to be a vet. i want to thank you for this outstanding book, i loved it!

I had to do a 100 note card report on a ocupation that you want to be, and you had to have three different sources. I did about 75% of the note cards using just this book. It's a great book to read and to do reports. Highly recomended.

I think that this book was not too bad, and is worth the buy, but it could be improved. Content wise it was not so bad, but it was the layout and presentation (amateur photographs) with heavily packed text. It looks like a scrapbook a child would throw together - and this may not necessarily be a bad thing considering the audience is children. I was really up in the air rating this one and would have given it a 4 if the organization was a bit cleaner. It deserves a 5 if it was organized a bit better "and" images were professional throughout - so you can see why I am saying it is worth a buy.



If your child has an interest in becoming a vet this is a recommendable book, along with others, and let them decide if the content within is worth a visit. - Animal Stories - Educational Books For Children - Kids - Veterinarians'
