Notebook Accessories - usb charger, belkin

I've been searching for a product that can extend the outlet on my bathroom for the electrical products that I use. I finally came across this Belkin mini surge protector and features:

- 3 AC power outlets

- 2 USB outlets ONLY for charging (not data transfer) at 5V / 500mA at each port

- Surge protection on all 5 outlets

- 918 Joules Energy Dissipation

- 125V / 15A / 1,875W Continuous Duty Electrical Rating

- 36,000A Maximum Spike Current

- Lifetime Warranty on product

- USD75,0000.00 connected equipment warranty

- 360 degree rotating plug lockable into 4 possible positions

Simple, elegant design in a smooth plastic casing of white and light grey colour. Once plugged, the green LED light will indicate if the power source is grounded.

The box comes with one USB to mini-USB cable to get you started in charging your USB devices as well.

DO NOT throw the prong cover that initially comes attached to the surge protector prong. As the manual states (for those who still care to read the User Manual these days), you can use this plastic prong cover to help further balance the device against any surface. You do this by inserting the plastic prong cover on the bottom of the surge device via a small notch. Also, the plastic cover is handy to use when traveling. Before dumping the surge protector along with your other devices, cover the prongs to prevent it from scratching other objects.

The prongs can be rotated 360 degrees loosely. However, there are 4 positions that enable you to lock it so it doesn't flail along clumsily in any direction. You do this by pressing into the rear a "release button". It's not a raised button, but a flat plastic portion that you have to press hard in order to release the lock. It's quite difficult (at least with the model I received) at first and feels like I'm going to break the plastic button. But I guess if this is normal then it can be construed as a safety measure so it doesn't easily rotate with a simple touch.

IMPROVEMENTS:

The term "mini" is subjective. It isn't really that compact as I would assume from seeing the photo. It is small, yes. However, as a surge protector that can take 3 AC and 2 USB outlets, I will give Belkin the benefit of naming it a mini device.

I would STRONGLY prefer the re-design of the spacing on the AC outlets by allowing larger plugs connected side-by-side. As it is right now, only normal AC plugs and not block-style plugs are allowed without loosing all three outlets. So my proposal is to delete the middle AC outlet and move it to the end-cap of the device (opposite to the 2 USB outlets). As of now, there is nothing there so rather than cramp the 3 AC plugs, then move the third at the end and thus allowing for block-style plugs to be used and still retaining the 3 AC functionality.

OVERALL:

I would not hesitate to recommend the purchase of this surge protection for compact spaces as well as travel purposes especially with the lifetime warranty and amount of protection is offers.

Take note of the selling price Amazon and the others are selling this at. It's ridiculous to see the selling price of this exact device can range anywhere from USD10 to USD30.

Lastly, BE AWARE of the SPECS so you know if the USB device you are plugging is capable of being charged. Belkin Mini Surge Protector Dual USB Charger

Nice hotel room companion for plugging in the laptop, cell phone, iPod, and iPhone when you only have one outlet. The 5v outputs are regulated very well. It's quite a bit larger than it appears in the photograph as well as modestly heavy. Calling it 'mini' is deceptive. It's also rated up to 125v so forget using it anywhere except North America (not mentioned in the technical specs). Otherwise, it's built sturdy as a brick and will endure any punishment your travels may inflict upon it.

To get directly to this items flaw... It cannot recharge/power more than one USB item at a time. So what's the point in having two USB outputs?

The 120V outlets work as advertised. The ability to rotate the prongs is a plus as it can be adjusted to most if not all outlets.

The USB power fails if more than one item at a time is plugged into the surge protector. Even if, say your phone is fully charged, if you go to connect another item to run or charge, the surge protector will not supply the power that both items demand. The items that are connected will act as if they have been disconnected from their power source, then once the surge protector accumulates enough power(not certain, but seem to act as if there are capacitors)to start supplying power once again the items connected to the USB ports start to operate briefly until the surge protector cannot supply enough power for the two items.

As stated before, it will supply ONE item with power, without a problem. But will not supply enough power for two, even if one item is fully charged. - Belkin - Power Strip - Travel - Usb Charger'

Silver Jewelry - heart, gift idea

I bought this pendant on a whim and I thought I'd get a little charm because the price was so low. I was pleasantly suprised to get a nice piece of jewelry.

The piece, from top of bail to kitten tail, is 1 1/4". the widest point (of course, kitty hips) is not quite 3/4". I put this on a 20" silver chain and the affect is lovely.

I expect to enjoy my twin kitties for years and years. LWPS002 Cute Twin Cats Sterling Silver Marcasite 38mm X 21mm Pendant Charm

Anyone who is a cat lover will appreciate this charm. One cat is sparkly with Hematite & the other is Shiny silver. The perfect gift for cat lover, friend or girlfriend with the cats interlocking tails. My friend loved it!

Cute Twin Cats Sterling Silver Marcasite Pendant Charm

Ordered this item recently as I had just lost two of my precious cats, it is lovely and a constant reminder of both of them that I wear close to my heart. Brilliant value for money.

I purchased this item as a gift for my brother's wife. I purchased a silver chain for her, to wear it as a necklace, specifically:

A 20" chain from Joyful Creations: OMEGA 1mm Round 925 Sterling Silver Necklace Chain, 20 Inch.

The charm and necklace came and was shiny & adorable! The charm was so cute that I ordered another one for myself! My brother's wife loved the necklace. She is a cat lover like me, and has one black, and one white cat. So it was perfect! I would recommend this product for any cat lover!

I received the pendant very quickly after ordering and was pleased with the service. The box is a piece of junk, but I don't care about that, I'm buying the pendant, not the box. HOWEVER, the pendant is VERY light weight and is not stamped with the sterling stamp, which makes me doubt it is silver. The marcasite is very poor quality, it has very little sparkle and that is what marcasite is all about. All in all, I am disappointed and will not order jewelry again.

I bought this pendant because I love cats and had been looking for a pendant like this for several months. This pendant is beautiful and well made. I wear it to work most days. You won't find anything like this in a local store.

I got this for my girlfriend's bridal shower representing her and her fiance' for a Prince Charming theme that we did. She loved it. It is very beautiful. I even had requests of where did I purchase it and how can they get one. Perfect for cat lovers. I should have gotten one for myself.

Terrific value for the money. Beautiful, heavyweight, cat pendant. Bought it for my daughter who has adopted two little furkids. I would recommend this truly lovely, quality piece of jewelry for any cat lover. - Heart - Gift Idea - Cats - Charms'

Gift Bags

In the past the bulk gift bags I purchased were constructed of flimsy paper, but these bags are nice and heavy. They can securely hold a bottle of wine without sagging. Vibrant colors, and blank small note cards with a substantial handle. The cheerful polka dot pattern is perfect for a young child's gift, birthday, shower, or Christmas in a pinch. I compared them to a big box store "sold single" bag at over $3 and these came out a huge bargain. 12-Pack Assorted Colors Polka Dots Gift Bag - Large'

Ipod Charger - usb charger, usb

Like everyone else, I hate Apple's not including an AC adapter with the iPod and then charging $30 to get one. And, like many here, I was hesitant to buy a $3 charger since it might ruin my $250 nano. But it isn't a $3 charger. It's more like a $6-10 charger when you add in the "shipping" -- roughly $7.50 for one and $10.50 for two, which is really shipping, handling and profit. Even at those prices, it's much better than Apple and I like the design even better (roughly half the size and one third the weight. Given the small power output, that shouldn't be a problem and is better when traveling. Apple's adapter is almost as big as the one for my iBook and that uses many times the power of an iPod charger.

Someone expressed concern about the lack of a "charge completed" indicator, but I don't see how that could happen. To my knowledge, a USB port (which this charger replicates so far as charging is concerned) does not know when anything connected to it is done charging (or even if it is charging vs. operating) so all the charge control would seem to have to be in the iPod, not the charger.

I gave this product four stars instead of five only because of the company's misleading shipping charge. Paradoxically, they might sell more if they charged the true price and a more reasonable shipping charge since a lot of people are likely to be scared away by a ridiculously low price, out of fear they will damage their iPod. I wish Amazon would require its affiliated sellers to adhere to a reasonable shipping cost policy. Amazon's charging reasonable shipping is a big reason I tend to come to their site, but situations like this are making me look elsewhere more. USB/AC for MP3 Players - White

I've bought three of these on separate occasions - one for me and two as gifts. Each arrived very fast by mail and all work perfectly. The charger is very small and has a built-in folding plug. It can charge any device that uses USB for charging. Simple, elegant and even with shipping it is less than 1/3 the price of the Apple version - highly recommended!

Charger FRIED our iPOD video first time we used it. iPOD was burning hot and is ruined.I've sent 7 emails to Cemtronix-NO RESPONSE! Can't find Cemtronix phone no. anywhere-includ Amazon CS and internet search. Want reimbursement for new iPOd $265.19 plus 6.00. Very upset and disgusted that Cemtronix won't respond and Amazon won't provide phone number or address of Cemtronix.

READ THIS!!!

Cemtronix responded to my evaluation by writing: Seller Response: ""NOT TRUE" Item was tested and was not defective at all. This buyer was looking for a free iPod "SELLERS BEWARE"" Date: 3/13/2007

THIS IS NOT TRUE!! Cemtronix NEVER contacted me or tested the product. I still have it. I was NOT looking for a free ipod. Mine worked fine before using the charger.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY DO NOT DESERVE ANY BUSINESS!

Just what the doctor ordered. It's robbery what Apple charges for their chargers, considering that if you buy one of their $300+ video ipods, it doesn't even come with one! Just what you need for on-the-road charging, and it weighs next to nothing.

I just received the USB adapter and attempted to charge my Ipod Shuffle. When plugging the charger into the wall, it sparked and shot out of the wall. The left side of my room lost power. Black smoot was all over the USB charger. I do not recommend this product to anyone unless you enjoy watching your house burn down. The $30 one from Apple will be well worth the extra cost.

This charger fried 2 mp3 players, both less than 4 weeks old. A new Ipod touch stopped powering up after the first charge using this item. A cheaper mp3 player died after about a week of use. It worked for a few charges, then after plugging it in one day, I noticed the charging light on the player did not come on and it was extremely hot.

Advertisement indicates that this charger is for iPod Shuffle, Nano, etc. I ordered the charger, and after 3 weeks (which is another story), I received the device, but it did not charge my iPod Shuffle. I sent several e-mails to the company (inspiretech), and they finally agreed to send a replacement, and asked me to retract my negative rating. I recently received the replacement, and it also does not charge the Shuffle. After numerous attempts to contact inspiretech, no response. I guess they are done with me. Watch Out!!! THIS WILL NOT CHARGE AN iPOD SHUFFLE, regardless of what the ad says. - Usb - Usb Charger - Charger - Ipod Accessories'

Casual Socks

I've been buying Gold Toe crews (and the occasional knock-off) for 40 years. I started in college, when my socks kept riding down my heel, into my loafers. If you have that problem, these sox are the cure.

All my older GT crews were mostly cotton (with lycra) - they shrank some and lost their softness, but not their usefulness. I have some that may be 20-25 years old.

These particular sox seem to be the 22% acrylic blend - they have a flecked appearance, probably "heather". I got 5 packs, and after several washings, they seem to be holding their size and fluff better. I expect the acrylic to be a little warmer, which should be an advantage with winter almost here. Not sure about the summer.

Had I noted the acrylic content, I probably would have passed, but these seem to be as good as the old mostly-cotton crews. Time will tell.

UPDATE 7-20-2008 (original 11-25-2007):

These socks were a joy over the winter, but are too warm for summer. Also, by April, the foot of each sock began to lose its shape, making folds or collections of fabric likely. (The shank retains its shape.)

I probably wore each sock seven to ten times before the problem developed. My old cotton socks are a little frayed at the heel, but are otherwise fine after many years. I can no longer recommend these acrylic-content socks.

UPDATE (7-12-2009):

Well I got another season out of these socks, and I'm liking them much better. I simply pull them on hard. The heel of the sock comes up over my heel, may stick out of the shoe some, but that doesn't bother me, and they do not bunch up underneath.

UPDATE (6-6-2010):

Another season completed, still fine. Gold Toe Men's Casual Crew 3-Pack, Black/Black/Black, 10-13

Comfortable and Durable with nice business casual colors. Allow your feet to breath in those leather shoes. These sock are slightly thicker than normal dress socks but not so thick that your toes feel cramped in the shoe. And they still look like dress socks. I paid more than twice the price for a couple of pairs of similar socks of another brand at local stores. These socks are great. I originally purchased the black versions of these socks and was so impressed I logged back into Amazon and found and purchased the same socks in multiple colors. The colored socks have a slightly different make up in material percentages, presumably for the color, but are just as comfortable and hold the color just as well. the next time I need socks, which will probably be a while, I will look for the same socks.

I was struggling with the correct socks my husband should wear with casual khakie and cargo pants. In the summer he wore sandals with them, but now he's wearing them to work and needs to wear regular shoes. I hated white athletic socks with them, but dress socks were too polished. These worked perfectly.

Perhaps for the average person, these socks are okay, albeit expensive, but for someone with a small foot (size 8 shoe)like myself, I found that the foot part of the sock is too long and too big around. Additionally, the elastic on the upper part of the socks is way too tight, leaving deep impressions in your leg after wearing them for a day. They do appear to be well made, but overall for my use I found them unacceptable.

Oh man. Oh lord. These socks are the bees knees! When I got my first pack, I threw all of my other socks away. I said to myself, "Man, F those old socks! F 'em all!". I only wear these socks now.

These are typically wonderful gold toe socks. I would have paid much more at a department store. The colors are great, the fit is fantastic and they feel good on my feet. I wear size 13 shoes so that is not always the case but these fit great. I am buying more and I would highly recommend these socks.

These socks are great for day-in, day-out wear. They stay up well - no sagging in boots! And after six weeks of washing, they are just as dark and soft as they were out of the package. We'll see how they hold up over time, but for now they are my husband's favorite socks.

I've used Gold Toe socks for decades and prefer cotton. The Fluffies are my favorite but wear out fast. These are a nice compromise as they wear well. I'm not fond of socks having large polyester content (like the ones sold at Costco). These have served me the best.'

Classic Horror - comedy, bruce campbell

Confused by all the Army of Darkness DVD releases (some in print, some out of print, some lingering halfway between)? I know I was. But I've done some research and figured it out, and here's how it breaks down:

1. The original DVD release-- was the original theatrical version of the movie with few extras. Good picture, good sound, S-Mart ending. If you just want to watch the best available version of the movie, you might get this one (if you can still find it; it's out of print now). It also has the familiar movie poster cover with an overly muscled Bruce and the hokey "Low on gas" slogan.

2. The director's cut-- with the silly Molly Hatchet cover and the original ending. There are many minuses: key lines are changed (not necessarily for the better). Much of the footage looks really horrible, including the entire concluding battle. All the deleted scenes have the feel of an eBay-purchased bootleg. Bottom line: AOD fans will like to see the material, but this is hardly the movie's best presentation. It's still circulating but they're not making any more of them.

3. The special edition-- probably the best DVD release of the movie to date. The 2 disc version (which, like the director's cut, is nearing the end of its availability) is great. It features both the watchable theatrical version and the borderline-unwatchable director's cut. It has commentary, unlike every other release, although the commentary is only available when viewing the director's cut. It has a making-of featurette.

The single disc version (now the primary version of AOD available) is only a slight downgrade; basically, it's the theatrical release, lookin' and soundin' fine, with the original ending as an extra, and the making of featurette also included. (The commentary is sadly missing.)

In summary: You can't go wrong with the single disc special edition or the even better double disc special edition. Avoid the director's cut unless you already own the original DVD and just want to see all the new footage in all its grainy glory. The original DVD is a fine purchase if you just wanna watch the movie, already.

2009 edit: to clear up some confusion in comments on this review, I wrote this eight long years ago. "Army" probably has five new DVD editions since then, and I'm sorry to report that I don't care enough to keep buying and comparing them. My experience so far has been that they keep releasing new versions with little regard for what people really want. In my eyes, a definitive version would be:

1. The main feature would be the theatrical version, fully restored and anamorphic.

2. Deleted scenes and the alternate ending would be cleaned up and well-presented as extras - I know this is possible because I own an Australian DVD of the movie that has them looking a lot cleaner than I've seen on all the older American versions. It would be also great if they had a menu option to watch the theatrical cut with some of the deleted scenes added back in - in particular the longer (and more cohesive) windmill battle with the mini-Bruces should never have been trimmed down; I'd love to see that in full as part of the movie. There's a cut that plays on some TV channel (AMC maybe?) that includes this scene, but unfortunately other parts are changed to their detriment - not a great trade-off. I think most fans of the movie prefer the original version of the movie - the S-mart ending, the original one-liners, etc. - but don't mind seeing some additional scenes thrown in.

3. Commentary, making-of featurette, etc. all included. The track record of this stuff on previous releases has been very spotty.

4. And finally do it right - put this version (probably a 2 DVD set) in print and get rid of the other ones, and KEEP it in print. Fans are tired of re-buying this movie just to find out that it's the same damn thing with a line or scene changed... if that. Let's tie a neat bow on this thing and be done with it. I'm as big a fan as they come and I stopped buying the new DVDs a couple versions ago.

2011 edit: Go to this page for a detailed look at all the notable Army DVD editions, including the ones I have not covered (be they Boomstick, Screwhead, or whatever else Anchor Bay/MGM/whoever has decided to foist upon this movie's beleaguered fanbase): [...] Army of Darkness (Screwhead Edition) [Blu-ray]

For the sake of clarity, I just want to say that there is no way I could review any version of Army of Darkness without giving it five stars. It is a modern classic which I can watch over and over again. Seeing the Tiny Evil Ashes take on Ash causes me to laugh out loud with every "My fair lady."Having said that, I can't imagine why they are releasing yet another SE DVD set of it. I own the 2-disc Limited Edition which came out a few years ago. I can't find anything different about this new "Boomstick Edition" that isn't on the old Limited Edition. Both have the original theatrical release and the director's cut with 15 additional minutes of footage. Both have the Men Behind The Army featurette. Both have the Raimi, Campbell, Raimi commentary. The only thing I've noticed so far is that the Boomstick edition comes with some kind of 10 page collectible book which my LE set didn't have. But unless they made some drastic changes to either the video or audio to clear up imperfections which I never noticed in the first place, I couldn't justify buying this new edition. But if you don't yet own Army of Darkness, don't be a primitive screwhead. Click on the Buy It Now link and get it.

Ok, for those who are wondering, this "bootleg" edition is simply the Director's Cut version without the Limited Edition numbers on it. Don't worry, it's not an illegal copy, more like an "Official Bootleg". It was done so that fans who missed out on the Limted Edition can still get the DVD and all the extra goodies. I for one am glad they did so because I happened to miss out on it myself. The cover is done as if someone made an illegal copie and used a brown paper back to cover up the liner. It has handwriting-like text on it in what appears to be a few notes from Bruce "Don't call me Ash" Campbell. The actual DVD inside is done up like a DVD-R (Not Really Recordable) and is very humorous. It contains the exact same movie and features of the LE in the exact same quality. The commentary from Sam, Bruce, and Ivan is hilarious as was their commentary from the other Evil Dead DVDs. That in combination with the deleted scenes and the original ending make this a must have for those who want the whole story. This is the version of the movie that was originally done before they were forced to shorten it to 81 minutes and alter the ending. So if you missed out on the Limited Edition DVD then this is for you. This is definatly one for the fans out there. - Horror - Bruce Campbell - Army Of Darkness - Comedy'
