Alright, This is going to be a bit extensive of a review, but its worth it.
First off, this case is THREE pieces, and fits 100% PERFECT.
The top piece that pops on the screen seems to be the same material as the 'active' part on the bottom, just thicker. Its has a nice 'rubberized' feel to it. It doesn't inhibit typing on the screen or clicking buttons. it does, however stick out from the surface about 1mm or so. This is a good thing though (for those not worried about thin cases) If the phone ever falls face first, there is much less of a chance of any contact with the glass. I know the phone has gorilla glass, but it still can be broken and scratched. The top piece easily snaps on (bottom of phone first) and is easily removed (top of phone first)
The bottom of the case consists of TWO pieces. The silicone (i believe) sits inside of the hard 'rubberized' active X part of the case. The silicone part is actually decently thick (not for those who want a thin case) probably about 2mm thick. so it adds a total phone thickness of about 4mm to the width and height and about 3mm (including top and bottom pieces) to the thickness of the phone.
The 'lips' for the bottom to snap on are located on the hard 'active' part of the case. The snap on flawlessly and don't inhibit the slide feature of the keyboard.
The entire case seems to be TOP NOTCH construction, as you will be able to tell by the fitment and feel of the case.
The silicone part on the bottom does seem to attract some extra lint and dust as would be expected.
There are only two negligible 'cons' if you can call them that about this case.. it is pretty thick, but not a problem for me. some people would want a thinner case. the silicone attracts lint and dust and your phone wont look as 'pretty' all the time.
Seems like it is the BEST protective case that will ever be available for the EPIC. Seidio ACTIVE Case for Use with Samsung Epic 4G (Black)
After having used one of the generic cases sold at my local Sprint store for $19 and then discovering that many of Best Buy's selections are disorganized and overpriced, I went online to try and find the best case for my Samsung Epic 4G. All of the reviews and suggestion kept leading me back to this particular case---AND WITH VERY GOOD REASON. For starters, anyone who has this phone knows that it is a much larger phone on average than most others out there...and that requires something above and beyond the ordinary plastic protective cases or an invisible shield-type cover. And due to the fact that the phone is so large, it makes the need to protect it even more pronounced. While the screen itself boasts the outstanding, scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, the rest of the phone is vulnerable to the ordinary wear-and-tear with use.
With all of the above being said, the Seidio Active X case fits the phone perfectly like a glove. Just as the description indicates, the polymer shield covers the bottom of the phone with a shock-absorbant material that is braced even moreso by the backing brace that snaps into place on top of the polymer shield. Most importantly, the volume, camera, and power buttons are covered by the polymer shield as well with moulded areas that allow them to keep their functionality while remaining completely covered/protected. There is NO OTHER CASE out there (trust me, I have looked high and low) that offers this complete coverage. In addition, the bottom portion has moulded areas that perfectly align with your fingers for gripping. Ergonomically, this case was designed with careful thought. Further, the top portion snaps into place effortlessly as well and the lip of it is somewhat thicker than the standard cases out there to insure even more protection if the phone is dropped. Aesthetically, the phone becomes more substantial and secure with the Seidio case because it completely eliminates the "plastic/fragile" feel of the phone itself, which, for me, was really the only drawback of the phone if there were any.
You might think it is crazy to devote so many lines of text to the review of a mere phone case, but, like most of you, getting this fantastic phone with all its many, many features is just the first step in the process of enjoying it. Making sure that the phone remains both functional and attractive for a long, long time is an essential second step. Even if you use another case as a temporary alternative, do not hesitate to grab the Seidio Active X case. This is THE CASE and the very next purchase you should be making for your Samsung Epic 4G phone. Do not waste your time on the other cases in the Sprint store or at Best Buy.
I first purchased the case that they had at the spring store when I first picked up the phone. That case had openings in the side which made me, with my average hands, push the power button hard enough so the phone started to slide apart. I did not like the phone and thought this was a design flaw. I ordered this case because Amazon had the body glove one with stand out of stock. I had a body glove case just like it for a Samsung instinct s30. I thought the body glove case was nice but thicker than it needed to be though I have not seen it for this phone except in pictures. This seidio case fits well and the back half is a great idea. There is a rubber flexible mold like piece that goes over the back first and then a hard plastic case snaps over the rubber one. It doesn't cover the whole back because the two pieces fit together to leave the button areas exposed so you can press them through the rubber case. It covers the buttons and that is nice because you don't get dirt to build up in the openings. Now all the problems with the phone sliding open when pressing buttons seem to be fixed with this case. I think they did a truly good job with this case.
Pros:
Overall this is a great case. It really does the job well and fits perfect. The phone feels secure in hand. Ive had the case for a few weeks now and have even dropped the phone once from standing height... No damage whatsoever.
Cons:
Top row of number buttons on the slide out keyboard are a little difficult to get to.
Raised lip protects screen but makes wiping dust off slightly more challenging.
When all is said and done this is a great case... probably the best. - 4g - Cell Phone Cases - Samsung - Epic'
