Schlage Problem

Unlike a previous reviewer, I have not ecountered problems with my handleset - installation was fairly easy (although somehow I missed the critical bottom bolt/attachment initially, but didn't really notice it as the handle worked fine...until I found the bottom portion of the handle was "moving" - an easy fix - and avoidable had I taken the time to read the installation instructions - which I generally skim).

Regardless, I've had this handleset on my entry door for about 3 years - the exterior portion of the handleset is routinely exposed to brutal Sacramento summer heat/direct sun and a bit of rain - nary a flake to be found on the finish and overall, the quality remains as if it were new. So pleased I have been with this particular model/version, I am here to order another set for my backyard entry/exit door which is exposed to more wet weather and the front door, but given the how well the front set has held up, I'm not concerned.

I've paired this set with the Schlage keypad deadbolt (post locking myself out of the house one too many times) and am planning the same set-up for the door to the backyard (I've converted the garage and kitchen doors to the Schlage keypad, from the standard "key required" deadbolt - the latter of which works fine, but for a "where are my keys?" challenge person - like me, the conversion has been worthwhile).

The Camelot handleset combined with the keypad makes for a professional and "quality" entrance - IMHO that is :) No regrets here, perhaps the other reviewer received a "lemon"? Schlage FE285 CAM 619 ACC LH Camelot Front Entry Handleset with Interior Accent Lever for Left Handed Door, Satin Nickel

This handleset has been a problem that keeps getting worse. Schlage won't respond. The outside thumb button gets jammed up and you have to tap on it to free up. It was a little stiff since the day it was put in and kept getting worse. After everyone continually complaining about the problem and the fact that it is getting worse, I must buy a new one. Guess what? At the local Lowes the Schlage thumb button sets on display are the stiffest ones there... Be forewarned!!

A left-handed door has HINGES on the right and the HANDLE on the left when viewed from INSIDE. Be aware of this when you order; I have seen the pictures on this site get it backwards with regard to the lever.

Had this for over 6 months now and this is not only great looking but it's very smooth and a pleasure to use. It has a solid feel like it will last a million cycles. We have this paired with the keypad deadbolt and we could not be happier. Highly recommended.

The handset was installed professionally (along with a new door) but failed within the first week. Failure is not being able to get the door unlatched; the knob goes limp and won't turn the inner cam. Had to enter house thru 2nd story window 10pm--too dangerous! Won't open from the inside either.

Went to Home Depot and asked for help, they produced a new door jamb set. Took apart and used new jamb, reassembled, seemed to fix but then a week later, broken again. No visible broken components inside. Seems the tolerances are just too loose and allows for just enough internal slippage to prevent opening. Make sure you have another way into (and out of) your home!

I have removed the Schlage handset and replaced with Kwickset. Not quite as heavy or sturdy, but no problems so far with operation. I kept the Schlage deadbolt supplied with the handet kit as I did not want to make many new keys and have to change garage door knob too. It does not match 100%, but beats being locked out and having to make multiple new keys, buy more locking door knobs, etc.

There is something wrong with the design or manufacure. I have not attempted to contact Schlage customer service or Home Depot, but I will.

Excellent quality and very easy to install. I would definitely buy it again. I also installed their keyless door locks and deadbolts and love them. The best in the keyless category and I have used many different ones.

I had this installed in under 20 minutes. i did need to drill 1 hold for the bottom part of the handle. the design of this is made for really really simple installation. even if you drilled the hole too high or too low, the bottom bolt actually adjusts up and down so you dont even need to be precise. very simple and it has a solid feel to the handle. it doesn't feel cheep at all and looks wonderful. i recommend this with the deadbolt Schlage BE365VCAM619 Camelot Keypad Deadbolt. This is what i installed together. the Digital keypad is fantastic!

So- I did not realize that their are left and right door handles. I bought this "left handed handle" and it totally works for right handed doors. Super high quality. Gives doors a rich and strong feel.

I first purchased the keypad deadbolt thinking it would match my existing oiled bronze handleset but the were different enough I decided to spring for the matching handleset. Installation was simple and there is enough adjustment in this set that it should fit any door without issue. The set has been installed for about three months now and I have no complaints or problems.

DIY Tip: If you want to preserve the aged bronze looks for years to come you can rub a small amount of vegetable oil on the set.'
