Treeline Films (Now called Mill Pond Films) has swept together some interesting Public Domain features and shorts in this, another of their 50 movie megapacks. Eight of the 50 movies (and an additional two short subject collections) are rarely seen low budget musicals from the '40s featuring all African - American casts. A couple of them are shows filmed at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem. I am enjoying watching the other features, which range in quality but are generally pretty good - I'd rate them a 7 or 8 out of 10. Mill Pond's marketing philosophy (like that of Platinum Disc Corp.) is to offer boxed sets of older films figuring there's going to be enough titles in them which you (and I) will want to see. I'm glad I bought this set, along with some of their other megapacks. Sure, it duplicates some of the PD titles I already have, but in most cases the quality of the Mill Pond titles is better than the Alpha, Treasure Chest or other low cost DVD distributor's titles. If you are nit picky on having the highest quality, stick to regular "studio releases". If you want to see some highly entertaining features most studios have forgotten about, and can live with spliced and scuffed films, try one of the Mill Pond 50 movie megapacks!

This is an absolute treasure: it costs almost nothing, it takes very little space, and it gives you about 50 hours of uninterrupted viewing / listening pleasure. I've just finished my first disk (it happenend to be the last, nr 12) and I am absolutely astonished: I've seen six films of which I had previously heard nothing, met several beautiful and gifted stars and starlets who were totally unfamiliar to me, and heard dozens of great and lesser songs. Included on this disc was an early Technicolor extravaganza Fiesta, which was stated to be B/W but was in glorious Technicolor nevertheless. I was expecting a load of poor quality public domain VHS transfers, but the six films on this disk were all very decent in their picture and sound quality, regarding that these are mostly B flicks from lesser studios. Most of the films are quite short - 45-65 minutes, so you don't have the time to get bored. I recommend this set to everyone who enjoys classic musicals from the 30s and 40s and who thinks he has seen most of these. Major MGM-Warner productions, maybe, but these long forgotten little gems - never! - Dvd Box Sets - Dvd Multi-packs - Musical Theatre - Musical'
