Shrinky Dinks
Fun to watch the little shapes curl up in the oven, then flatten out again. If I had not read the directions first, I might have taken them out too soon and been frustrated with the curled up edges. I hadn't done these since I was a kid myself and had forgotten just how much they actually shrink. The pre-punched hole in the shapes shrunk so much that it was difficult to fit the string from the kit through the holes. We made do with some other jewelry string we had in our craft drawer and added some of our own beads, too. My daughter loved it, and I had fun, too. Just make sure you read the directions first! Alex Toys Shrinky Dink Kits, Good Time Jewelry
There were several minutes in the cooking process where I thought there was no chance these things were making it out looking normal... but we waited and waited and waited and then all of the sudden... Yay! They unfurled themselves and shrunk and looked totally great! Phew! Great project that I remember loving as a child. Happy to pass them along to my daughter :)'

Mini Stapler
Great stapler. I've had one for over fifteen years and it hasn't jammed or failed once. Fits in pocket nicely and you'll never run out of the Number 10 staples that it comes with.
I used mine all through law school and stapled everything. It's tough and can go through many sheets pretty much effortlessly. The Number 10 staples are sharp!
But, why would you ever pay $10 for it on Amazon when you can get it at the drug store or the office supply store for $3 and less? BOS10K - Mini Stapler,Uses No. 10 Staples,2-10 Sheet Capacity,Asst.'

Silversmithing - silversmithing, metalsmithing
If you're into jewelry, you will enjoy one of Lark publications latest efforts, "Jewelry Design Challenge" by Linda Kopp. In this book, thirty well-known metalsmiths and jewelry artists from around the country were given packages containing ten identical materials (copper and sterling silver sheet, sterling tubing, copper washers, leather cord, copper and sterling wire, fine silver mesh, and several black and white pearls) and asked to create a piece using as many of the provided materials as they wished, and as an aside, they were allowed to use one extra material, a "wild card" so to speak, of their choice that was not provided in the kit. What a fun concept! The diversity of the finished projects was amazing. ''This book proved to be very entertaining and insightful and I highly recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation of one-of-a-kind and limited edition art jewelry. Jewelry Design Challenge: 10 Materials * 30 Artists * 30 Spectacular Projects (Lark Jewelry Books)
I am really impressed by the creativity of this group of artists. I found the whole concept of giving them all the same materials (plus one "wild card" item) and seeing what they come up with quite fascinating! If you belong to a crafing group, this would be an awesome idea to incorporate into your group. Get together a kit, either the same one used in this book or something totally different, and give (sell) one kit to each person. Imagine all the fun you would have to see what you and your friends come up with.
I like that this is not just a picture book of beautiful jewelry, but that instructions are included. The instructions are not detailed enough for the beginner but do provide sufficient information for the more advanced student to be able to reproduce the jewelry.
I really like the challenge for the artist to be able to complete a project
with limited materials plus most had a wild card material. I have gone
back and forth looking at the different projects and have done one with
the instructions and they have several patterns templates in the back.
I've gone back and forth between giving this book 3 or 4 stars. From my own point of view, I can't give it 5, although others may be able to quite legitimately do so.
Strengths: the projects are creative, extremely well-executed, and will be very inspirational to people viewing the book.
The cover says "30 artists..." and it isn't exaggerating. These are not people who call themselves artists because they sell some work here and there. They are professional artists who have considerable skill in their field(s).
Weaknesses: For someone like me, who has little metals training, the directions are scant to the point of being useless. *I* cannot use the directions to produce anything even close to these pieces. That doesn't mean others can't. It occurs to me, however, that if you've got the skill to actually produce projects like these, you could very likely look at the pieces and know how they're done. But I don't actually know that.
At first I was tempted to just send the book back. But truthfully, the projects are really cool, and I want to keep it around for inspiration. I was tempted to give the book only 3 stars because I'm not going to be able to produce projects from it - not anytime soon, anyway, and probably not ever. I gave it 4 stars because of the inspirational value of the work. I may be able to produce a few components like the ones in the book, or I may be able to produce the "look" of some items in another way. But please know if you've flipped through the book in a bookstore, and have thought you would like to make some of the projects, you won't find COMPLETE instructions here. If you already have significant metalworking skills, this book will likely be very useful to you. - Jewelry Design - Metalsmithing - Jewelry - Silversmithing'

Childrens Art - melissa and doug, drawing pads
When I looked at this book online, I assumed the faces were small, like the other Melissa and Doug Sticker books, such as the fashion one where there are lots of little girls, and you put their sticker clothing on them. Well, each one of these faces are huge, fill the entire page. They are actually bigger than a human head. That being said, my daughter (four years old) is loving doing these faces. Some of them turned out like modern art at first (eyes at different levels, etc.) You select their eyes, eye brows, and mouths. The noses are already there. There are many types of ethnicity, so if you are worried about all the faces being Caucasian, you will like the wide range. Melissa & Doug Make-A-Face Sticker Pad
This is a great, unique activity to keep pre-schoolers and up busy. The concept is great - you can flip through multiple pages of sticker features and accessories to create an interesting and expressive face. It is creative, easy to use, and quiet, and also is skill-building since you can see the progression from Picasso-style faces to really realistic faces. My son enjoyed it for a while, but of course didn't get into making them pretty like I'm sure a little girl would, which got me wondering why they don't design a make-a-face sticker pad that is more gender-neutral. I think they could have included male faces with more masculine features and had some of the male-oriented accessories be different types of glasses, collars, neckties, etc. This is clearly a female-oriented activity, and that's disappointing since there does not appear to be anything comparable for boys.
My 3 year old daughter loves this product. However, this product would be better if all of the eyes/jewelry/noses (for example) weren't on the same page. It would be better if I could give her a face and a page of stickers (the right amount for that face) and let her do it herself. The way that it's set up (with all the stickers consolidated on a few pages), I have to monitor so that she doesn't use all of the stickers and saves some for other faces. Overall, however, a great product!
When I purchased this for my niece, I had the idea that the pages were laminated so that a child could change the stickers on a face. That is not the case, it's one stick and you're done. If a sticker is placed slightly off kilter, it cannot be moved.
Neither my four year old nor seven year old niece showed an ounce of interest in this book, and they are usually very excited by girlie dress 'em up style toys. It was a waste of money.
I bought this for my 2 year old daughter and we all ended up playing with it! It was fun to see her start with the eyes and mouth upside down and within a couple of pages she was centering things perfectly. we all have "our faces" done- including my husband (she picked a short-hair blonde to be him). plenty of stickers to play with. great toy for the imagination!
I bought this for a 8 hour car ride with my 3 year old. She loved it, as well as her cousins during our visit. They are big heads and have lots of accessories to chose from to reallydress up the face. Kids ages were from 3- 8 and each kid asked to make another one, over and over. It was good learning in that they could put the pieces in the right spots , and a few even realized if eyes were too close, etc.... they were girls that played, and only female faces. Not geared towards boys, unfortunately..kids kept entertained for a long time... gave parents a much needed break!
Unlike the other Melissa & Doug sticker pads, my kids used this one up quickly. But this seemed more educational because they had to place the stickers on the faces. The way this one works is the stickers are facial features and the faces are on paper on which the stickers will be placed.
This is educational because it involves matching facial features in a creative way. You let your kids decide which features to put on which face.
The paper and stickers are good quality and big. As it has been mentioned before, the stickers cannot be removed once they are stuck on. I actually like this, as our activities that have reusable stickers tend to spread all over the house. I help my 3 year old to remove the stickers and flip back to the face pages and my son does the activity on his own. I will be buying this again.
Like the vast majority of M&D products, this sticker activity book is creative, constructive fun. Unlike many sticker books where each sticker belongs in a designated spot, the facial part stickers of this book can be placed on any face desired to create a huge number of possible faces, from realistic well-featured people to three-eyed cyclops or aliens. Lots of fun for kids of many ages from toddler through tween. - Drawing Pads - Coloring Book - Childrens Art - Melissa And Doug'

Dell Latitude Battery - dell latitude battery, d600
When I was looking for a battery, I did not expect to find a brand new one for so little. It was a wonderful deal and the bonus was a little written instructional manual about how to correctly discharge your battery and reset it to its maximum charging capacity. Which makes it take a better charge and last longer (something the Laptop manufactures don't want you to know!) I preformed the total discharge for my other laptop and reset my battery and now it will hold a 4.2 hour charge. Thank You! Thank You! Laptop Battery Compatible with Dell® Inspiron 500m, 600m Series, Latitude D500, D505, D510, D600, D610 Series, Precision M20, Workstation M20 Series
As the Dell battery from Dell is expensive, I thought I'd save some money buying a replacement battery on Amazon. The battery I got wouldn't even power up my laptop. I assume it's a defect with the specific battery I got as opposed to the entire product line, since other people indicate success.
Since it was processed by Dekcell (available for Prime shipping), return was super easy. May try again.
I'm running a Dell Inspiron 600m.
I tried this battery as an alternative to Dell's overpriced replacement batteries. I use it in a Latitude D610. It was a little quirky at first. When I plugged in outlet power after drawing down the battery a bit, it didn't consistently begin charging. After using it for over a month, the problem appears to have resolved itself. Aside from that temporary quirk, the battery has performed well, and I consider it a great bargain.
The battery was delivered promptly and fit into my Inspiron 500m the same as the original. It has been working adequately in the month since it was installed.
There are three issues to document:
1. The battery was fully charged when received based on the fuel gage on the bottom. It also reported over 90% by the time MS XP SP2 had booted and has charged up to 100% with normal use. While I have not timed the unit precisely, I do get 2-3 hours of normal use on a charge, which is adequate. However, when I booted the laptop with XUBUNTU, which has a much more informative battery status monitor than the Microsoft OS, it reported that the battery (still brand new) was only in 'Fair' condition. This info comes from the battery pack, not from the OS or the PC. Microsoft will report that the battery has 100% of its capacity, but does not say whether the capacity has been internally derated from its original design specifications. The battery now reports (after only a month of use) that the capacity is 'Poor' (59% of rated), that the original design of 53Wh has now been reduced to 32Wh. It appears to have stabilized at that level. It is still worth the price, I suppose, but I would imagine that it will need replacement in a year, unless the performance increases with use. Of course, it might be the XUBUNTU, but I believe that it is simply reporting info provided by the battery pack's built in electronic monitor.
2. I also received a warning from the XUBUNTU OS the first time I operated with the new battery pack that the battery MIGHT be subject to a recall, but no wandering about the net revealed any supportive info for that and XUBUNTU no longer reports the warning. Not quite sure what to think there, but the laptop has not burst into flames....... yet.
3. The last is a minor thing. The rubber foot built into the battery pack is of an inferior grade of rubber compared to the original foot, since it leaves black skid-marks on the table tops on which the laptop has been used. I replaced it with the rubber foot off of the original battery and that problem is gone.
Since the price, including shipping is less than a third of the Dell OEM replacement part, I guess it is still a deal, though I certainly cannot give it 5 stars.
There are different levels of mAh in this batteries
My labtop works with 4,4 mAh and the battery came with 5 mAH this difference makes that the battery only charges to a max of 17%
If you are going to order check the mAH or you will be disapointed and the vendor does not specify this
While the battery fits in the place provided, and seems to be working, the specs do NOT match the description provided by the seller. Rather than a 4400MAh battery at 11.1V, I received a 2200MAh battery at 14.8V. I think this is a difference of 4 cells vs 6 cells in the design, but I paid for a 6 cell battery.
Caveat emptor, sometimes you get what you pay for. I really should have listened to my gut on this one.
Price seemed right, but that was the only positive to this product. Mechanically, there's really only one thing that could go wrong with this battery, and sure enough, the spring-loaded latch on mine was broken when I received it. Decided to request a replacement, but wasn't permitted to do so. Instead, I had to return for a refund and then reorder. Seemed a bit counterintuitive. - Replacement Battery - Dell Latitude Battery - Dell Battery - D600'

Electronics For Kids - helicopter, rc heli
Its freakin awesome, you dont have to keep adjusting the trim/yaw to maintain straight level flight! my 11 year old son and I have had a ball with it straight outta the box! bypass all the other ones this one is absolutely easy and fun to fly!!!!! 3 Channel RC Military Gyro Mini Indoor Helicopter Viefly V268
I fly a SYMA S107, which is a fine bird but mostly made of metal (thin sheet aluminum) which is good and bad. Metal, even aluminum, is strong but heavy. My friend Skillet flies the V268 and, in my opinion, the V268 is the better aircraft. Although it is slightly smaller than the S107 in overall length and rotor span, it exhibits better flight characteristics, primarily better climb rate and longer flight duration. I attribute this to the lighter weight due to all plastic construction and bigger primary gear allowing higher torque @ lower RPM. We have both crashed our birds numerous times and my landing gear is shot while his is going strong. His canopy has popped off in crashes, but a little crazy glue took care of that. For the money, this is the best 3 channel helicopter I've seen.
My little brother (46 years old) and I each bought one of these for each other for a Thanksgiving/Christmas gift exchange. Our only regret is we couldn't fly both of them at the same time because both helicopters are on the same receive freq. We had a blast flying the copters around the inside of our parents home. It couldn't be easier or more fun to fly. I've told my wife that I now need a whole fleet of these little birds. Battery recharge is fast, ESPECIALLY if you use the USB cable to do the recharge. It is VERY durable. My brother and I both hit everything in the house with no damage and the little bird just takes to the air again. We flew a little outside when there was no wind and my copter spent Saturday night 25 feet up in a live oak tree. The next morning using 30 feet of PVC pipe the little bird was rescued, recharged and flew without a hitch. THIS HELICOPTER ROCKS!!!!
I've had several indoor helicopters and this one is by far the best. The ONLY drawback is it's run time on a charge (about 10 minutes), but even that is better than most. This heli is about six inches long, and weighs 25.8gm (0.91oz). It is incredibly stable and will hover motionlessly when trimmed. I found that it is quite rugged too.
Crashes from my twelve foot ceiling to the tile floors have not caused discernible damage. I managed to nick the counter rotating main rotors several times as I found furniture edges; sanding the nicks is necessary to get things back into perfect balance. Easy to do with an emory board.
The rear rotor is horizontally oriented so it only comes on when forward or reverse stick is applied. The main rotors control up-down, right-left flight operations. Superb piece of workmanship and fine design. Comes with a separate charging cord so the heli can be charged from your laptop USB port, thus saving the batteries in the controller. Buy it...you won't be sorry.
Very happy with this purchase. Helicopter was easy to fly straight out of the box. The initial charge time should be 40 minutes but requires a shorter charge time after that. The controller requires 6 AA batteries. The heli can be charged by connecting to the controller or you can also charge it using the provided USB cable and connecting it to your computer. After a full charge, the length of fly time is only 5 to 6 minutes. The heli starts to fly lower to the ground as the juice winds down. My nine-year old son has enjoyed this toy tremendously. He has crashed it dozens of times but it keeps on going strong. His older brother also has enjoyed it so much that he purchased his own. Now I have the buzz of helicopters throughout the house.
I bought this RC Helicopter for my dad (age 73) as a Christmas gift. It's his first RC toy and he's in love with it. As soon as we charged it up, the whole family was fighting over who could fly it next! My dad seems the most skilled flyer. The helicopter is very sturdy and resilient. We crashed it into the walls, appliances, Christmas tree, furniture, and the ceiling over and over, and it kept flying! It has really cool flashing lights, and it holds a charge for a good long time. I highly recommend this RC helicopter for beginners of any age.
We gave one to an engineer at our company for XMas -- a cranky geezer who used to pilot small airplanes. He almost fell over when he saw it. His desk is in a 20x20 ft area with 17 ft ceiling, and it just flies great in there. The trickiest thing is controlling the lift -- it can tend to accelerate upwards, and if you panic and drop power, it will prang. Fortunately, it's quite resiliant. If it were any easier, it wouldn't be fun.
I also gave one to my son. He loves it and his 3-1/2 year old son keeps asking when he can fly it.
Bought this $29 Viefly after terrible experience with $17 Syma Apache, and I've been thoroughly delighted with its performance. It flew right out of the box. With a tiny trim adjustment it stayed stable throughout the five minutes I flew it, and the battery didn't run down. I've had it a month with no problems. Undocumented extra: it comes with a USB cable that fully charges the helicopter in about 5 minutes rather than the half-hour or more that it takes from the RC box, so time-per-flight isn't an issue. Incidentally, the same cable works with the worthless Syma product.
As to durability, I've crashed it many times on rugs and ceilings and hardwood floors with no ill effects on anything except my pride.
So do buy one Viefly helicopter instead of a bunch of the half-price zero-value Syma product.
Of course there's always the chance that I randomly got the one good one in a bad batch. I'm buying 2 more as gifts and will post again if there are any problems.
My husband gazed longingly at every RC helicopter display or demo, so I bought him this model for Xmas. He is really enjoying flying it around. The battery only allows flights of 5 minutes or so at a time -- a bonus for me, but you may feel differently. - Cobra - Helicopter - Gyro - Rc Heli'

Neutralizers - concealers, makeup
I have been using this product for about 6 years now. My esthetician advised me a long time ago to stop wearing foundation. She said a good concealer and some blush is all you need. She was right. I put this under my eyes, dab it in and I am good to go all day. I have large pores and oily skin and this is the best concealer I have ever used. DL My Spots Are Consealed Light Color
I have worked in retail for 10 years and around some of the best make-up artist but none of them can do the magic that this little stick does!! I have some acne scars and occasional break outs but with this product no one knows but me. The fact that it blends so easily with or with out makeup or powder and is waterproof only adds to it's greatness! This is truly the best concealer out there and I wish more people knew of my little secret.
I found this product on Amazon after Walgreen's discontinued stocking it. I use it to cover a small scar on my face and can honestly say it works better than Dermablend. It gives a matte finish and blends easily. It's also great for covering freckles or age spots. I hope they keep making this item as it works beautifully at a great price!
I've been using this concealer since I discovered it in a beauty supply in LA twelve years ago. It makes your skin appear perfectly smooth and healthy. I usually cover it with a powder foundation, but I wouldn't need it. There isn't a blemish I've had that this won't conceal beautifully.
I have tried many foundations and have very large pores on my nose and cheeks. Heredity I guess. I also have broken capallaries that this totally covers. I use this instead of foundation. It's almost like a putty to fill the pores and doesn't break out my skin. I'm pleased when I'm done using it at the look I've achieved. Since I'm in my late 50's, I just barely dab it in the soft skin under my eyes. Can't say enough good about this.
I always have a difficult time finding the right color (either white-out or orange). This is wonderful on my pinky-fair skin tone. It provides enough coverage to sort out the nightmare under my eyes (circles so bad that I look like a victim of domestic violence),yet blends well. I have issues with hormonal skin... oily AND dry patches, so I always set this with mineral powder (faerie organics)to keep it from landing in the wrinkles around my eyes.
I'm 21 years old and I've had dark circles my whole life-- they're heriditary. I have never able to find a concealer to hide them, so I was really excited when I read the reviews for this stuff. I have medium/tan skin, so I ordered the "light" (as it was recommended to order a shade lighter than your skin for dark circles) and it's actually still too dark. The "light" isn't as light as I thought it would be and doesn't cover my circles very well. I'm kind of disappointed that I paid $13 for a "miracle" that doesn't really work for me.. - Scars - Age Spots - Makeup - Concealers'

Keyless Deadbolt - keyless deadbolt, schlage
I recently bought one of these for our home after we moved in. Now I don't need to fumble with keys every time I need to ket in the house, and I don't have to worry about kids losing or forgetting keys.
Like other schlage locks I have owned, this unit seems to be very well made, sturdy, and easy to install. The programming of codes is simple, and codes can be added or deleted just by using the keypad. Keypad use as far as entering codes or even updating codes is straighforward. The fact that a simple button push "lights up" the buttons at night is also cool.
The buttons are also epoxy-coated, so the numbers won't "wear off" thus revealing the codes used. I have a separate code for each family member, and can easily add codes if I have a contractor stopping by.
A key can be used to open the lock if for some reason the electronic part stops functioning (too cold from sub-sero weather, perhaps?). Since this is a Schlage lock, it can even be re-keyed so that the key you have matches the other Schlage locks your house may have. Schlage FE595VCAM619ACC Camelot Keypad Accent Lever Door Lock, Satin Nickel
The other reviews have covered the product very well, so I am just commenting on the battery life. My 9 volt battery that came with the lock lasted 1 month. I just assumed it had been sitting in the package and was near it's exp. date. The 2nd battery I installed was a fresh Everyready Alkaline 9 volt. It lasted a total of 4 months. There are only 3 family members in my house, so I don't think it is a matter of heavy use.
My point is that 4 months is a long way from the 3 years advertised so consider this when you are thinking of getting this lock.
4/5/09 Another update...3rd battery lasted less than 1 week and when it failed the door sat unlocked all day, not good. Will contact Schlage for replacement, but do not like to have to return things and pay shipping
I timed my installation of this at a surprizing 15 minutes, including removing the old doorknobs and reversing the handles on the keyless entry. Usually everything takes twice as long with me! The only hard part was deciding which door to put it on- the main house entry or an outbuilding I use a lot.
An earlier review stated that the lock shuts down for 5 minutes after four consecutive missed entries of combinations. I timed mine at 30 seconds shutdown, confirmed in the owner's manual.
The thing is made well, heavy duty even. Easy to program and delete combinations. I was hoping to gain entry a tad quicker by "swiping" a finger across four digits in a row, but this won't allow that; it wants a discret push of a number on the keypad with a very short time between entries. So it takes 3-4 seconds to open the door.
No complaints, but I await the day the 9V battery gives out and I have to remove the inside portion of this lock to replace it. Then I may have my first gripe!
P.S. - I paid $118 (on sale) for mine in bright brass at Lowe's, Jan.'09.
Having just purchased a new home and in need of replacing the locks, we did a great deal of research on the various companies before settling on Schlage. Of course, they are a decent mid-level quality lock and there are much more secure, and much less secure lock ratings than found within this line (i.e., commercial, etc). We selected this keyless lock to use on an outdoor utility/laundry shed with the intention of being able to access laundry the laundry room easily without the need for keys. It has been wonderful, and we enjoy the bronze colored finish a great deal. I have heard that it can peel and crack, so be sure to keep your receipts in a safe place, or your original packaging, should you need to send it back to Schlage for warranty work (there is a lifetime warranty, as far as I am aware).
The lock is easy to program and uses a 6 digit master code for this purpose. You can store 2 four digit entry codes in the lock at at time, and they can be changed using the 6 digit code. As others have mentioned, this is useful when contractors need access to the home. For example, we were able to have the sprinkler system repair guy do some work on the house because of this.
As for the battery life, I can't comment much on it, except to say that we are still on the battery that came with the unit and it has been about 2 months. I would note, however, that we do not use this system on an entry door to the main house. Rather, it is in a location where it is not used every day. Nevertheless, we live in a very hot climate, which usually kills batteries at a faster rate, and have not encountered a problem with the lock as of yet.
Thus far, we have been very pleased. If I encounter any problems, I will be sure to update the review, but at present, I am very satisfied. A note of caution - be sure to retain the instructions included with the lock, as they contain the 6 digit code necessary to change the entry codes. If you happen to misplace this, you will need to take the lock apart to get the code, as it is inside of the lock.
I had all the same positive reactions listed by others when I installed this. After I had been using it about six months, the 1-4 digits stopped working - when I pressed them nothing at all happened, though all the other buttons worked. This was intermittent for a while and then they quit altogether, taking me back to using a key. I called Schlage and was told that they recommend replacing the batteries every three months. Wonderful! Anyhow, I replaced the battery and guess what?! Now none of the buttons work at all! I have messed with the connections and all, but have been unable to revive it. So how do you send a lock in for repair? Just leave your door unprotected when you send it in? Anyhow, I misplaced my receipt, so I'm totally out of luck. I guess I'm just back to living with fishing out my key every time I need to get in. - Keyless Deadbolt - Schlage - Keyless Entry - Keyless Lock'

Belly Dance - hip scarf
I bought this skirt for Halloween and I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality. There were a lot more coins on the skirt than I expected. The material is a little flimsy, but I expected that since it was so inexpensive. I received nothing but compliments from friends and complete strangers. Shipping was quick and customer service was great. Red Belly Dance Skirt With Gold Coins (Great Gift Idea)
This is a great, light and attractive skirt. I saw one similar in an Indian shop for $35. It has 3 layers of coins and coins at the tie ends. It has a thinner nylon material than the purple, handmade skirt but it is lighter in weight. The red color is bright but not ugly. I have not washed the skirt as yet so I cannot comment on fading or wear and tear. I gave this item 4 stars because of the shipping costs! I would definitely buy another but must factor in the shipping costs which definitely changes the price. - Hip Scarf'
