Benchtop Planers - planer blades, thickness planer

I have received my blades and now have used them considerably and completely happy with the blades. I will be buying more in the future. I have seen actual DW7342 blades for the same price on ebay but they may not be as good as these. I like Amazon order handling better.

I've used these on Oak and Maple and at least 200BF with multiple passes. POWERTEC HSS Planer Blades for DeWalt 12.5" Planer DW734 - Dewalt - Thickness Planer - Planer Blades - Planer'

Invisible Shield - invisible shield, iphone screen protector

Awful product; bubbles on your screen. I thought others who reviewed this product may not have been careful in applying the film; not like me. I was very wrong. Even with surgical gloves I was unable to apply without bubbles. Dust is on the film itself. Go to the Apple store and pay $15 for a film that works perfectly. They'll probably even install it for you as they did for me. This product is worthless unless you don't mind bubbles all over your screen. So annoyed I had to take the time to save others from this product. You've been warned. Acase(TM) AcaseView Screen Protector Film Clear (Invisible) for iPhone 4 4G AT&T and Verizon (3 Pack + 3 Bonus Back Films)

i bought this protection film but am very disappointed. i applied it exactly and carefully as the instructions however, it peels it off from all corners all the time and it doesn't even stick on my iphone as it claims it will. i am very disappointed. i wasted my money.

So i got this product and although it works there are so many bubbles on the screen. The bubbles get really annoying!! At first I thought that maybe I had made a mistake when putting the screen protectors on so i took it off and tried with a fresh one, to only end up with the same problem. Do not get this product unless you are ready to wrestle with it just to still end up with bubbles on the screen.

The front covers seemed to be defective. Instead of being clear as advertised, they had a green tinge to them, even after removing the protective covers. The back covers seemed to be fine, though. However, both covers had long lines across them, which seemed like they might have been from the machine scratching the covers. Cannot give positive marks, but hopefully this was just a fluke.

This cover protects the phone and sticks. I have used several others as well, and they all have the possibility of bubbling when applied. It is not so much about the product, but the person that applies it. I have had the best luck applying the protector in a bathroom after taking a shower, as there are much fewer dust particles in the air, and trapped dust is what causes the bubbles. The only way to guarantee that you will never get bubbles is to apply the screen protector in a dust free industrial clean room.

I was a little worried at first, as they have a green tint when they are all in the package together, but you can only notice it when they are all back to back. There is no noticeable tint by themselves on the phone.

All in all, it does the job it is designed to do. I doubt there will every be a screen protector that is easy to apply though.

Just bought this product and it's excellent. just put it on the iphone 4 white and you can't even tell it has a screen or back protector on it. i think this one of the best screen protectors i ever used and believe i have used a lot.

So,I wasn't intending on leaving any feedback initially because I felt like the item was pretty ordinary. But then an accident happened to my iPhone4 and this protective film totally saved my day. Therefore,I feel the need to give this item the credit it deserves.

I was riding my bike across a busy street and I had my phone in my pocket (not a very smart idea,I know).Half way across the road,my phone fell out of my pocket, with its screen facing down, right in the middle of the road.I couldn't stop immediately to retrieve my phone because the traffic was coming onto me so I had to bike away from my phone to a safer spot, where I witnessed more than 10 cars zooming above my phone. It was the worst feeling ever!!But luckily, none of the cars actually crushed or come close to crushing my phone so I was able to retrieve it off the road. When I picked up my phone,I was sure that my screen would have had scratches all over it.I turned the phone over and did see HEAVY scratches on the screen. But when I removed the protective film,I found out that the scratches were only on the film and the actual screen on my phone was totally unharmed!IT WAS A MIRACLE!

I would have given this item a 5 stars but the film doesn't seem to fully stick onto the screen without creating air bubbles. But I believe this is something that can be fixed with careful application. With the price of this item,I'd say it is a great buy!Plus,it comes with more than 1 screen protector film,so what more could you ask for?

I am not happy with this product. It is impossible to align both camera opening and home button correctly at the same time. If one is aligned the other one is off. I tried to align both openings but then I got a crease in the fold on the screen protector in the middle of the screen.

I think if it was sized correctly it would have fit without me trying to move it around. I tried much to my frustration but no luck. - Iphone Screen Protector - Anti-glare - Invisible Shield - Zagg'

Emergency Radio - weather alert, noaa

I hope I can give you some useful information about this radio and give you new ideas on simplifying your emergency items. I have been reviewing emergency radios for too many days, I think for most of us we want something portable for emergency AM or FM weather information and NOAA information and alerts during a loss of power that might last for a few hours or several days, I'm not looking for equipment to survive without power for months in the wilderness, just keep in touch and out of the dark during the emergency. I was considering the Eton RH500 (cool factor) but after reading about all the Eton radio models, I could not help but notice one serious concern with all of them, most reviewers said the Eton radio reception was not very good indoors... which is where I'm going to be during bad weather; an emergency radio without excellent radio reception has little value in my opinion. I opted for the Midland ER102 and I am very pleased. I like having the Dynamo feature, but I do not put a lot of value in it as my thinking is that all the emergency products I purchase must use AA batteries; they have a shelf life for 6+ years and they are cheap... aprox. $10 for 24 name brand batteries at W. Mart... The idea; one battery that fits everything! As for this radio; I live outside of the city and the AM and FM reception inside my house is excellent even without extending the antenna it picks up well, I can pick up 3 NOAA weather channels, two of them loud and clear, and one NOAA channel loud and clear without extending the antenna. Some reviewers complain about sensitive tuning; as for the tuning... the tuner is an analog (not digital) tuner with a digital display and it scrolls very smoothly (all the emergency radios that I have found use analog tuners.) To get clear reception it is not necessary to hit your station exactly (but is easy to do), as with analog tuners we have always tuned into the general area of the station then moved the knob back and forth until the station is clear, you never thought about it being sensitive since you just listened for the best spot without observing a digital display. Is the dial sensitive... no more than any other analog tuner, it might seem that way if you are looking at the digit to the right of the decimal point while rapidly scrolling, however a light touch when fine tuning and I find the tuner actually easier and much quicker to tune than if the display was the old analog type display other emergency radios have. The 3 LED flashlight is surprising bright, the backlit LCD display is very bright, AC adapter is included, the alarm is easy to use and it's kind of neat to look at the display and see the current temperature constantly displayed. I will note that I have a newer Nokia cell phone and although the radio comes with several adapters mine was not in the mix. Again this is not important to me as I don't want to crank the Dynamo for 5 minutes to make a very brief call.... Better idea; buy a portable emergency cell phone charger that fits your phone. This $5-$20 device (you guessed it.... works on AA batteries) will allow you to start using your phone within 30 seconds of plugging it into a dead cell phone and talk say 2 hours on one AA. If you want to go all out you can purchase Lithium batteries which last longer than Alkaline and have about a 15 year shelf life. Storms and power outages are stressful enough and lots of work, I say keep it as simple as possible... and a bonus, all my stuff fits easily in a small drawer in the kitchen.

My 3 watt LED flashlight (about 80 lumens) lasts 2 hours on high, my Sylvania LED Mini Lanterns (L562) last up to 200 hours on 4 AA's and they are as bright as many large lanterns, and this Midland Radio all use the same cheap AA batteries.... $20 buys 48 AA batteries and will last me a long time, how about 72 AA's on hand at a cost of $30.... I can go for weeks. Midland ER102 Emergency Radio

Excellent AM/FM and NOAA weather radio reception. Decent sound for a small unit. Easy to use.

Some of the items in the Technical Details section on Amazon are incorrect:

1. There are only 7 NOAA weather channels.

2. The cable for the cell phone charger is not USB, it is a 3.5mm 2-pole connector with standard in-line plug adaptors for some cell phones.

The manual states that to charge the internal battery pack from the AC line or hand crank the "Power Selector" has to be in the "AC/DYNAMO ON". You need to either turn the volume all the way down or put the "Alert Type Selector" in "Alert" in the WX mode. The power has to be in the "OFF" position to charge a cell phone from the AC adaptor or hand crank.

The LCD display "Backlight" switch is in a funky place on top under the carrying strap so you tend to turn it on inadvertently. It shuts off after 3-4 seconds.

I have done a good bit of searching before getting this emergency radio. There are many choices out there for this type of radio. After reading many reveiws I picked the Midland 102. "Features" prevailed over weight. I will also be using this radio for backpacking/camping trips. The reception is great. Even indoors with the antena down it gets great reception. It's not the smallest radio. It is small enough to fit in my backpacks upper cover pocket. The LCD display is great. Along with the other many features it has. Tells Temp, alarm clock, weather alarm that can be set to silent flash warning. Light is small but ideal for searhing for something in a pinch. Three differnt ways too power the radio is great. I tested the lentgh of life with power on board before having to use the crank. It was atleast two days of near constant use. Or close to eight to ten hours. After cranking for three minutes. The radio played for close to an hour. The sound quality was exceptional for the speakers size. When holding the unit in your hands it won't feel like a cheesey piece of plastic. So far I am quiet pleased with the Midland 102. The only reason for four star rating is I can not attest to it's durabillity since I have only had the radio just over a week. If you get this unit you will have made a decent educated purchase, that was worth the effort in finding an emergency radio for your family. Hope my reveiw helps you out. - Noaa - Crank Radio - Weather Alert - Weather Radio'

External Hard Drive - drive enclosures, ide

I bought mine at Best Buy for the full 60 bucks, but I wanted to say that you don't need to format your hard drive. I had another kind for several years, Movie Star is the name, but the on off switch gave out, and I can't find another anyway, probably just as well, it was cheap, but did the job for some 3 or 4 years. (Over the last month or so, I kept losing the connection, and it would take a little shaking and turning of the unit to turn it on.) The instructions on the Rockfish said to format the hard drive, but I would assume that would be for a new hard drive. I had over 150 GB of pictures and movies on my hard drive, and just put it in, plugged it up, the computer recognized it straight away (windows XP) and it pulled up the info in no time, just like you would expect it to. So, if you have a hard drive with information on it already, rest assured, you won't need to format it, unless you want to of course. I haven't even loaded the CD that comes with it.

The only beef I had was the connections inside the nit were a little tight on space, but it did go in just fine, just a little tight. Sturdy unit, great color. I like it. Rocketfish - Hard Drive Enclosure Kit for 3.5" PATA/EIDE Hard Drives RF-PHD35

Wonderful product. Delivered as ordered and described. Easy to set up as long as you read the directions. Amazing price for the product. I used it to rescue old but meaningful college work off of a dead computer then wiped the drive and now it's an external backup. No geek-work necessary.

Fast service. The product was suppose to be new. However, it appears to have been used or at least opened and returned. Yet, It works fine. So not complaining. Again very fast service. Would buy again from this vendor.

The first one that I received was used and broken, after calling customer service (seller, not Amazon) another was sent that was also an open box and would only work if you formatted the drive 1st. I bought this to see what was on older drives that I had, but it's usless for that purpose if you must 1st format the drive. Cheap price for what is now a back-up drive enclosure.

This item was simple to use and worked perfectly! I was easily able to recover from my old hard drive all my data and burn to dvds after recovering. Simple is an understatement on how easy it was

using the Rocketfish enclosure. Just make sure the contacts are seated properly to the old hard drive, turn on the power after plugging to new PC via USB port and look under My Computer for the info. The only nuisance is that the power will not come on unless I push the power cord connection cord real hard but not all the time.

Be careful connecting the multi-pin ribbon connector. Do not pinch the ribbon between the drive and the enclosure body when you install. You'll have to work it for a minute or two, but proper positioning is easily achieved.

I don't know what all these comments about formatting and power problems are about. The thing has it's own power supply- you plug it in. I connected it to my laptop via USB and my laptop recognized the external device immediately, and I had instant access to all the files on the drive.

Only wish I bought this from Amazon instead of the much higher priced 'Best Buy'.

Good: Looks nice, has an IDE port for those older drives, operates flat or standing up, Price!

Bad: Power on is a little spotty. When connected to my Mac and powered on, the enclosure will not immediately turn on. If I leave it alone, it may start within the next 30 minutes or so. I can sometimes accelerate this by fiddling with the USB connector on the back. I dismantled the unit and extracted the circuit board but I can't find any visible faults with the solder joints or components.

Comments: The power on issue isn't really much of an issue for me. I use this unit for Time Machine backups to a 300GB IDE drive and I only need to fiddle with it once per week. Considering that this unit was well under $10, I'm not bothered by the odd behavior.

Credentials (this is the Internet so take this with grain of salt): I'm a former IT consultant with over 11 years of experience in "support and infrastructure" (desktops, servers, peripherals and network layers 1-4).

Simple to use HDD enclosure. It is great to use to back up files or extra file storage. It works well with my 80G HDD and Win 7. It was missing two screws but I found replacements for 60 cents so it wasn't a big deal. The retail price at the store is outrageous for this enclosure and I recommend buying a return like I did which saves a bunch. Kudos to Amazon and Best Buy Liquidators for handling a smooth transaction at a great price! Shipping was extremely fast. - Great Value - External Hard Drive - Drive Enclosures - Ide'

Black  decker - paper shredder, shredders

I picked one of these up after looking around pretty much everywhere...the blades are very robust looking compared to many on the market. It shreds papers into thin ~4" long sections. It shreds much faster than my old shredder did, but can only do about 3-4 sheets without sounding pretty bogged down...plus the slit you stick the papers in is pretty narrow. I really like the cover that makes it look tidy, helps you know it's off and prevents young kids from fooling with it. For the price, I think it's fabulous. Black & Decker CC1000 10-Sheet Crosscut Paper Shredder with Power Boost

This is my third shredder and so far, the best yet. I paid much more for my previous shredders at Staples that didn't have all the features this one does and both of those died due to papers jams. This one has a power boost to avoid those and has a safety shield that folds down when not in use. Would buy again!

After years of carefulling feeding our old shredder and clearing jams, it finally died. We shred all of the credit card junk that banks insist of including with our statements, along with other documents with personal info. So far, I've only needed to push the extra power button once. No more concerns about unfolding documents completely before shredding, or only feeding two or three pages. I looks great in our home office, and we have no complaints about how it functions. I find it funny that Amazon wants buyers to rate how quiet and smooth a shredder is. To rate how quiet and smooth it is, I would have to feed similar paper into a bunch of shredders and see how much noise they make. This one sounds like a paper shredder. If my wife is sleeping in the next room, I wait to shred.

This is the quality I've come to expect from Black & Decker. My old shredder had died a while ago and I kept forgetting to get a new one until things hit critical mass. This arrived, I put it to work on the mountain of "to shred" I had. It worked great on the pile, never jamming.

The only downside I've seen at all is that the full indicator has a hair-trigger and bucket design leaves dead space as the shred paper drops into a pile. This makes it show full much earlier than I'd like to see - It's only about 2/3 full, but the peak of the pile gets close in the center, it shuts down with a full indicator. Not a biggie, but it means you have to empty it more frequently.

I purchased this to replace an older, larger shredder. This shredder does a great job at quickly shredding paper, but is quite (and almost painfully) loud. If it wasn't for the fact that this shredder shreds at least 1.5 - 2 times faster than my older shredder, I would return it. The basket is big enough for routine use, but the "filled" sensor reports that the shredder is full when there is still enough room for several more sheets of paper. I'm guessing that this feature helps avoid jamming be keeping the shredder from "feeding" itself previously shredded paper, and forces you to stop shredding larger jobs frequently enough to avoid overheating the machine (which takes 30 minutes of cool-down to start working again). Overall a nice shredder for the price, but it could stand to be 50% slower if it could be 50% quieter as well.

I bought one of these shredders earlier today. When I opened the box, I realized it was a return (it was partially unpacked). It didn't work. I returned it and got another one. This one makes a lot of noise and a few short slits in the paper, but that's all. Of course, Black & Decker has no customer service on Sundays. I'll take it back and shop for another brand. - A  great Safe Shredder - Shredders - Shredder - Paper Shredder'

School Supplies - pencil sharpeners, electric sharpener

Only buy this pencil sharpener if you want to replace it each year. The sharpener worked very well until the end of the school year and then the blades became dull and would not sharpen the pencils. Hunt Company replaced the blades under warranty. Now that the warranty has expired, they refuse to replace the blades and won't sell the blade replacements. What a shame that electric pencil sharpeners are supposed to be disposable! X-Acto School Pro Heavy-Duty Electric Sharpener (1670)

I have gone through three School-Pro Sharpeners in four years. When it works, this sharpener is wonderful. It accomodates several different pencil sizes, has a huge shavings receptacle and runs quietly. My first sharpener lasted through two school years. The second one lasted about a year and a half. The company replaced it for free after I complained. The replacement lasted only a few months. They all had the same problem. When a pencil was inserted the the blades would spin, but they didn't sharpen. I think there was a problem with the automatic pencil stop feature. If the company would address this design flaw, I would consider buying another School-Pro.

I bought this sharpener because we have a large collection of very thick color pencils which require the largest hole on this sharpener to sharpen. This sharpener works fine. However, I was rather surprised by its large size. It is twice as tall as most of the electric sharpeners one sees in offices and homes, and it is wider and heavier.

While it worked, this was a great sharpener. The problem is that it only worked for three months. RIP OFF! Don't advertise that it's for school use unless it will last at least one school year. I have a much lower quality model that is going on its third year in my classroom, and it advertises for office use. The jokes on me!

I loved my Boston School Pro. The kids in my class were forever griding away on my old fashioned crank sharpener, and other teachers were contantly complaining about their loud electrict sharpeners that would quickly burn out on standardized testing weeks. With the Boston School Pro, teachers came to my room (or sent kids to my room) to sharpen pencils for the Stanford 9 test. There is a audible difference when students pencils have achieved ultimate sharpness. No more wasting time at the sharpner!

Every teacher at our school got one of these at the beginning of the year. NONE of them made it through March. The internal gears are made of cheap plastic that quickly wear out. While the cutters no longer turn, the units do squeal quite nicely! One star becuase it's the minimum available!

I'm a middle school teacher and bought two of these on the advice of a colleague. Both broke down before the end of the year. So did the two my colleague bought. It turned out she hadn't used one before but was taken by the imposing hero shot of the sharpener.

The company was completely unresponsive to the several phone messages I left.

A hand sharpener works better in the long run. Don't waste your money.

I have been teaching math for a few years and have had more trouble with sharpeners than students. I was going through several sharpeners a year. I was comfortable spending 20is dollars at Wal-Mart(where America shops for value). I was getting about 6 months out of each sharpener. This Boston School Pro is much better. While more expensive, it has lasted 2 and a half years. I have had trouble getting new blades and feel that I will never, I end up saving money in the long run. I was spending $60 plus every two and a half years and now spend $30 every two and a half. If Texas will get it's act together and give teachers the raise they were talking about I might be able to cover my pencil sharpener budget. - Electric Pencil Sharpener - School Supplies - Pencil Sharpeners - Electric Sharpener'

Cuisinart Coffee Maker - cuisinart, dcc-1200

I've had the Cuisinart DCC-1200 for about a week now. I was hesitant to spend so much on a coffee maker but I'm happy to report it's well worth it. Sure, you can get other brands of coffee makers for under $25 if economy is the most important feature, but I've had those machines and I decided that, this time, a good cup of coffee was most important for me. This unit makes the best coffee I've had in a home or office machine and better than most coffee I've had in restaurants.

This coffee tastes smooooooth! I suspect the charcoal water filter is the reason for that. I also like the "shower head" design of the water spout. The water actually runs up a track onto the underside of the lid and is sprinkled over the ground coffee like a rain shower.

It's an attractive unit but it also looks like a serious coffee maker. This unit is no toy. It looks and feels solid. The carafe has a good solid feel and balance. The plastic parts (like the plastic carafe lid and handle) feel like good heavyweight plastic and are well molded. It's not the lightweight crappy plastic that cracks and discolors easily in the cheap coffee makers.

I like the 5 beeps when the coffee is ready. Now I can leave the kitchen and go clean or whatever and I don't have to keep running back to see if I can get a cup yet. I can hear the beeps. But if I really can't wait and want a cup in mid-brew, I can just remove the pot and pour a cup - you've got a full 30 seconds to reinsert the pot, before you risk an overflowing filter.

I like the permanent gold-tone filter too. I always thought paper filters were a pain. They'd fold over sometimes and there'd be grounds in my coffee. But you can use paper filters in this machine if you want to. I just prefer the convenience of the gold-tone filter (top rack machine washable too).

It has an indicator light for cleaning -- it says it's "self-cleaning" but really it's just a light telling you when you need to pour in a pot of water/vinegar and run it through to decalcify the unit. (I never thought to do that with my other units. Probably another reason my coffee wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.)

The low-medium-high setting on the hot plate is pretty nice too. And the auto-shutoff feature is great. I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn the machine off.

The instruction booklet is very good and very thorough. Comes with a parts reordering form too.

What don't I like about this machine? It requires maintenance in that you have to change the charcoal filters. But actually I don't mind since I think they are the reason the coffee tastes so smooth, and they are very easy to change and not expensive [...]

Also, the area in the top of the machine where you pour in the water is narrow but again this is just a minor inconvenience. Just have to pour a little carefully.

So really it's almost all positives with a couple of very minor negatives. I highly recommend this coffee maker. Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black/Brushed Metal

After purchasing 3 other coffee makers, the 4th one is the charm! This coffee maker makes great tasting coffee. I never knew there was a difference -- it's worth spending a few more dollars on. It also has all of the features I was looking for such as: adjustable warming plate, 1-4 cup selection, water filter, programmable. It is a rather tall machine, but certainly not a problem as it fits fine underneathe most cabinets. Als, the carafe is well-made and has a spout that pours nicely without spilling. No complaints about this one!

Two weeks ago, I needed a new coffee maker. The Krups Aroma Control maker is in all the stores and catalogs, so I bought one in the local mall BEFORE reading the Amazon reviews. BIG MISTAKE. Lesson learned - read the reviews - many negative comments. I used it for 3 days, and readily understood the description (...) of "eye candy" (looks nice, but seems like cheap plastic) and weak coffee (what they describe as a feature - allowing the coffee to steep - is really a euphemism for a poorly designed system that is guaranteed to give you a weak cup of coffee). One redeeming feature - the carafe is very nice.Within 2 days of having the Krups, i was on Amazon looking for a replacement coffee maker (a good cup of coffee is critical in the morning!). I went out on the risk curve and ordered the new Cuisinart - no reviews yet. The Cuisinart has a more classic brewing system (water goes through grinds via gravity), yields a delicious cup of HOT coffee, has a variable temperature hot place, and looks and feels solid. We happen to have stainless steel appliances (refrigerator, freezer, stove), and it matches beautifully. Best news - excellent coffee!. I would highly recommend the Cuisinart.

Folks, this is one excellent coffee maker. I read the comments here and decided to get it even though some had complained of spillage when lifting the lid and also the coffee not being hot enough. Well I can tell you that when I lift the lid on mine, the water rolls to the back and then drips back into the machine on a nifty little lip attached to the back of the machine. It appears that Cuisinart has engineered a solution for the complaints of spilled water that some reviewers mention. Also, the coffee coming out of the carafe of my machine has steam drifting off of it, so it is plenty hot, another complaint that seems to have been remedied. There were also a couple of complaints about finger prints on the stainless and the small LED clock being hard to read, but let's be for real, all brushed stainless appliances will fingerprint and this is a very stylish coffee maker, not a kitchen clock(that's what your microwave is for! (wink)). Actually I think the Cuisinart guys intended the clock for autoprogramming functions and made it LED to match the stainless on the machine. And if you don't like the water filter, you don't have to use it. It is a nicety and can be readily found if you search the net for "dcc1200 water filter".Enough defending complaints though. This machine makes superb coffee. It has the best carafe I have ever used(it will not spill a drop and it has a built-in plastic rim to keep you from busting it on the sink). It comes with a gold metal filter. Buy it and you will like it. And if for some strange reason you don't, then take it back. All jabs aside, this is an outstanding machine in form as well as function, and the people at Cuisinart obviously care what their customers think of their products. That means alot to me. How about you??? - Dcc-1200 - Cuisinart Coffee Maker - Cuisinart - Coffeemaker'

Razor Scooter - scooters, micro

I did all the research and settled on the Maxi Kick for my son's 4th birthday present. He loves it! I was a little reluctant because it says ages 6-10, but he's tall for his age and I knew he'd outgrow the Mini too quickly. He had no problem figuring it out. Didn't even think twice about the joystick steering (as opposed to traditional handle bars). So smooth across the ground. I'd describe my son as above average in terms of coordination and balance, but he's fairly reluctant when it comes to most gross-motor activities (climbing, hanging, biking, etc). Not a dare devil. And he's had the Radio Flyer My First Scooter for a few years and never rides it. So I really wasn't sure how he'd take to this. Now I can't get him off of it. So worth the money. maxi kick Scooter - BLACK with Pilot Stick Steering. Winner of the Oppenheim Portfolio Gold and Platinum Seal Awards 2009

I bought this for my slightly-smaller-than-average 5 year old daughter. I thought it might be too big for her, as the manufacturer claims that the Maxi Scooter is for 6-10 year olds. After waiting patiently while much larger children rode the display model in the toy store, my daughter began cruising around the store on the Maxi while calling it "her" scooter.

When we brought it home, I was pleased with the ease of assembly. It took my daughter two riding sessions to get used to the feel of leaning rather than turning, and holding the pilot stick rather than handlebars. Now, she leaves her older friends on Razors in the dust, uphill, downhill, and while turning. Even though she goes a lot faster than she did on her old scooter, I feel that she is safer because she has a much easier time turning and stopping. Kids as old as 12 line up to take turns riding it, as the pilot stick height adjustment takes about a second, without tools.

Many neighborhood parents have asked about it, so I imagine the streets will soon be filled with Maxi Scooters, unless they choke when they see the price. The Maxi Scooter was worth the price for our family because my daughter and her friends are SCOOTER FANATICS, and this model should last several years.

Here's how I would rate it (out of 5):

Ease of assembly: 5 (Snap the pilot stick into the kickboard. Done).

Construction: 5

APPARENT durability (we haven't had it very long): 5

Intuitive use: 5

Braking: 5

Fun: 5

Worth the price: 5

"Cool" factor: 5

I hope this helps!

I purchased this scooter for my grandson that lives in NYC. I had visited my daughter a few months ago in London that's where I saw the scooter. My british grandson and all his friends were riding like little whizzing birds all over the place. This scooter seemed to give them such a confidence. I was impressed and searched all over the internet for this product b/c there were none in the stores. I'm so glad I found it. I not only bought the maxi scooter for my 7 yo I also bought his brother 2yo the mini scooter or "tooter" as he calls it. So cute he doesn't go anywhere without it. No more carriage for him and he's getting so much exercise chasing after his brother. Don't forget the HELMETS!!

We got this for our 6 year old boy after his younger brother was so enamored with the mini scooter made by the same company. Two things about this scooter are somewhat unique. First and most obviously is the "stick" handle and steering. The height is fully adjustable (my son adjusts the height on his on his own) and the design allows him to steer abit like he's holding a ski pole on a slalom ski course (or steering a helicopter, you get the idea). He can crouch down and hold on low on the stick, making maneuvers reminiscent of how a skateboarder might ride. The second feature worth noting is the braking capability. The guard over the back two wheels can be pressed down with your back foot. This same feature exists on the mini too. The kids love this, it means they can cruise down slopes with confidence or zoom up to an area and stop basically on a dime. The only slight downside to this is that the wheels can get worn down excessively on a section of the wheel so that the rolling becomes abit bumpy. This is more of an issue on the mini because it only has one back wheel. With the maxi's two back wheels the bumpyness from excessive wear from braking is less noticable. Not sure if they could make the wheels out of a harder material, but this might reduce the appeal of the product because the wheels do look to be the same quality and material you might find on good inline skates. Other than this minor qualm, we really like this scooter, my kids are on these all the time and prefer them to biking really.

I cannot say enough positive things about this scooter, and the whole kickboard line. We started with a mini for my youngest and had a nice razor for my older son (6). Well, my 6 yo wanted to ride the mini all the time so we bit the bullet and bought the maxi. Wow. They have a blast on them! I have since bought the kickboard original for myself for mothers day. It is wonderful exercise. It is fun. It helps teach balance. My youngest learned the concept of leaning to steer on the scooter and it greatly helped him learn to ride a bike (its the same motion). They are so compact and transportable we throw them in the car all the time so we have them at parks. They are an excellent transportation method to get to parades, beaches, parks and such. Additionally, all the parts are replaceable. We have purchased new wheels and brakes from the supplier at extremely reasonable rates. I see passing these scooters down through generations. It is a worthy investment and you truly get more than you pay for. And I don't say that lightly. I wholeheartedly recommend the maxi to kids 5 and up and the mini to kids as young as two. Pick a gender neutral color and it is something you can easily use for more than one child. - Micro - Scooters - Razor Scooter'

Raw Food Diet - raw food, nutrition

This is so much more than a simple raw food cookbook or commentary on raw food diets. I was surprised at the amount of information packed into this book. It has all sorts of nutritional information and easy to read tables on just about anything you can imagine relating to this way of eating. Here are just a few titles of the tables included: Research summary of the effects of cooking on phytochemicals, Calories, protein, fat, carbohydrate and water in raw food (6 pages long), Fatty acid composition of selected foods, Vitamins in raw foods, Minerals in raw foods, Vitamins A,C,E,K, and D: adult dietary reference intakes and intakes on raw and high-raw diets. And those are just a few. I like tables because I can get information at a glance and compare different values so this is really a good book for me.

You don't have to be a total raw food convert to enjoy this book. Even if you're just thinking about adding more healthful raw foods to your diet, I think you'll find this book as useful as I have. It starts out with a history of the raw food movement, gives lots of scientific evidence on why it can be a healthy way of eating, and then goes on to give all kinds of information, things you've probably never even thought about, on incorporating raw foods into your diet or going totally raw. It tells you what you need to know if you do decide to take the plunge, about getting all the nutrients you need.

There is a small section with raw food recipes and another section with full meal menus which I found especially helpful. I'm not looking (yet) to totally adopt this kind of diet but I would like to add a lot more raw food to our everyday meals. The recipes are pretty easy and there are a good variety. A few that I've tried and enjoyed are: Caesar's Better Salad, Warm Red Cabbage Salad, Morocc-Un-Butter and Marvelous Muesli. There's also a section on handling raw food safely and another on food enzymes. It's all easy to read and understand.

There's a large reference section, a glossary and an index. To me, this is important because I want to know the science or studies behind statements, not just take the author at his word. This is a high quality book, probably the best I've found on this subject. Becoming Raw: The Essential Guide to Raw Vegan Diets

Becoming Raw: The Essential Guide to Raw Vegan Diets is a complete guide to the raw diet- a type of diet/lifestyle that has a strong following and continues to gain more and more adherents. This book covers all of the essentials of the raw diet and more. The reader ultimately becomes much better informed on the subject and completes the book loaded with knowledge on everything related to eating raw.

Becoming Raw is a complete guide to the raw diet and, in many ways, it is like reading an educational textbook on raw food nutrition. I am no expert on the subject of nutrition, so I knew there would be much to learn when I opened this book for the first time. My expectations were correct, for Becoming Raw is loaded with information on nutrition and eating raw foods. It teaches you about the building blocks of food, like carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. It offers recipes, nutritional tables, and other reference materials. It educates the reader on the many benefits that raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and other foods bring to the body. It covers a wide range of topics and serves as a very informative book on this subject.

Individuals who are trying to lose weight will find that a diet in raw foods is certainly a good, viable way to drop pounds and many people will read this book for that reason alone. But Becoming Raw is much more than a book dedicated to those who are determined to reduce their waistline. This book is useful to anyone who wants to eat better and learn about the many benefits that a plant- based diet can bestow on the body. A diet rich in these raw foods can, for example, offer protection against cardiovascular disease, reverse the effects of some common ailments, and shorten the span of common illnesses such as the common cold. With benefits such as these, most anyone can adopt the raw diet, even if only to an extent, and emerge healthier than before. This book discusses all of these benefits and more, and it even offers a short history on going raw and how/why this type of eating lifestyle continues to grow in popularity.

Becoming Raw, at first, sounded like it was going to be a reference book and I wasn't sure it would be very useful to someone like myself, who is not a vegetarian. However, as you can see from the above commentary, this book is actually a combination reading/reference guide with facts about foods, the meaning of eating raw, recipes that include raw foods, etc. The book does include graphs, tables, charts, etc., but there the majority of the books pages are comprised of reading material intended to educate the reader on the different components of food, why they are important to the body, how deficiencies can affect the body, etc.

Everyone can benefit from introducing raw, unprocessed food into the diet and Becoming Raw is an excellent book about this important subject. It is a book about your eating lifestyle, with complete coverage of the raw diet, explanations of nutritional facts and data, nutritional charts, history of the movement, recipes, and more. It's an exhaustive guide that can be referred to repeatedly for advice and general information.

Are you thinking about Becoming Raw? If you are, this book is a must have!! This is the most informative, complete book I've ever read on this subject. I thought I knew a lot about healthy eating, vitamins and minerals in foods and what food was good for what ailment, but this book is full of information I did not know.

The chapters are:

Becoming Raw For Life

A History of the Raw-Food Movement in the United States

The Raw Report: Scientific Evidence To Date

Why Raw Rocks!

Energy and Power

Carbohydrates in the Raw

Fat: Friends and Foes

Vitamins: Inviting Vitality

Acid-Base Balance, Bones and Minerals

The Great Enzyme Controversy

Food Safety: Raw Case Files

Nutrition Guidelines and Menus

Recipes

I've always wanted to try eating raw. With this book it would be so easy to do. The book is full of drafts and charts. In my opinion, there is no biased information in this book, it is just full of facts and you can draw your own conclusion.

My favorite recipes, even though there were only a few, were the Smoothies. I know I'll be using them often.

This is a book that you can either live by on a daily basis, or go to whenever you start feeling sluggish and want a boost. I know there have been many studies on the health benefits of going raw, from diabetes, to cholesterol and high blood pressure. This is one of the best books I've come across about eating raw.

Motion Sensing - led, motion sensor

Just added this to the bottom of our apartment's formerly unsafe and dark stairway. Powered by the 4 size C batteries, my only worry was whether this would sufficiently illuminate the section (the reason I ruled out a solar powered unit; these tend to put out as much light as a birthday candle). Initially tested the unit indoors and I was pleasantly surprised to see the LEDs put out a great deal of light...enough to read by. Installation is a breeze, the motion sensor is sensitive enough to turn on from about 6-8' away, and hopefully the light lives up to the 6-12 month battery replacement claims. Only negative is not specific to this unit, but of LED lighting technology: the lights are so cold blue, it sometimes looks like a new car headlight is shining downward. Wonder why manufacturers do not include a slightly warm-tinted clear film to alter the light's colour a bit. But overall, think this is a perfect renter's choice in adding some safety lighting outdoors. Fulcrum 20031-101 Motion Sensor LED Porch Light, Silver

I've had this a few months now and it's working perfectly. I have it hung on the underside of my porch roof so it's not directly exposed to the weather and I honestly don't think I would recommend it for places where it will get rained / snowed on. I'm sure it will be able to handle the ambient moisture / cold / heat from being outside but I don't think it would last long if you plan on mounting it directly in the elements - at least not unless you do some slight modifications to it like using caulk or silicone over the seams. The motion sensor function works great - it only comes on when it's dark and the sensitivity is perfect. Once it detects no motion for approx 10 to 15 seconds it goes right back out again. The light is very adequate for shining on a door so you can see the keyhole or find your way in a dark area.

UPDATE 9/17/2010: I wanted to add a couple of notes now that I have been using this light for six months. I had initially given this 5 stars but had to knock off a couple of stars due to some serious issues with the light. The light began staying on all night long when there was no motion - occasionally going off for a second and then coming back on again. Since it had been six months since I installed the light and the light was getting a bit dim I assumed that maybe it was because the batteries were dying. When I opened the door to replace the batteries white water poured out - the water was white due to the moisture inside the light corroding the batteries and they were leaking a lot of acid. It actually burned a little and the batteries were in such bad shape I'm surprised they were even able to turn the light on. As I mentioned above, my light is not exposed to any direct moisture at all - it's hung on my porch roof which has an eave that extends down one foot from the roof line and the light is mounted in the corner. No matter how hard it rains the light would never be able to get hit by water so apparently the ambient humidity is getting into the light and condensing inside. I was able to get the light working again by leaving the battery door off and letting the insides dry (inside the house) for a week - I think the water was causing the circuit board inside to short out. Before I put the batteries back in I sealed all around the lens and all the seams with silicone sealant. After I put the batteries in I sealed the battery door shut with Dap 18324 Seal 'N Peel Removable Caulk, 10.1-Ounce so hopefully that will keep moisture from entering. It really is a nice light and it's a shame the manufacturer didn't put a little more effort into making this more weather resistant. If you plan on using this outside at all I would recommend that you seal it up good first unless you live in a desert. As I mentioned the battery life is roughly six months, which is decent, but I think I expected more since it runs on 4 C cell batteries. Then again, maybe they would have lasted longer if they weren't soaked in water.

We park on the side of the house where there is no light so I started looking for an outside light that would be easy to install and wireless. The first night it was up I thought this has to be a bad unit since it didn't turn on when I drove up. Once I turned my headlights off and got out of the car it lit up and provides adequate lighting. The function of it only turning on in the dark was battery saving plus for me. I was afraid with the dog running by it all day we'd be buying a lot of batteries but it only turns on with a combination of darkness and motion. It's been outside on a pole without shelter since February and works great.

I love this light! Installed in minutes using only a screwdriver. Looks great! No wiring! Provides loads of light! Much better coverage than other LED lights that I have used. Automatically turns on when you approach leaving your hands free to unlock the door. I can think of at least two other locations where I can install others. Great item!

This detector does an amazing job for lighting small areas (25 sq ft). Its bigger than the photo would indicate (almost 6"x6"x6"). The 4 batteries fit in the sphere itself not the base. I mounted 1 outside above the doors of our shed and 1 inside the shed at a height of about 6'. The one side picks up a person about 5' away. Provides excellent light for about 25 sq ft with dimmer lighting for about 100 sq ft. Quality is fine for a sub $30 detector. Just installed so I have no idea how long the batteries will last.

Con: no sensetivity setting on motion detector. Not an issue in my case but some may want more/less then the pre-set.

I installed this light on my front porch about two weeks ago. I got the light because I didn't want to keep the front porch light and the driveway coach lanterns on when I or my wife or kids were out late. The plastic mounting plate has two #4 screws, and the light is easily removable from the mounting plate. The light seems very securely mounted by the two screws, and swivels and rotates to give illumination where you want it. My porch is about 6 feet wide, and the 6 LED's give a bright, almost newspaper-reading-quality, blue-white light to illuminate the door handle and keyhole. The motion sensor works well, turning on as I approach within about two feet of the door. The instruction sheet says the 4 C cells will last between 6 months to a year, "...depending on frequency of acivation...". The instruction sheet mentions that the light is for outdoor use, and the light and battery compartment seem to be sealed, or at least protected, for outside use. Overall, the light seems ideal for my use, but no telling yet how long lasting it will be. - Motion Sensor - Led Light - Led - Home Security'

Years ago I used to use a Nikon F SLR with an assortment of wide angle, normal, and telephoto lenses. I would buy my film in bulk, load it into casettes, shoot, then develop and print in my home darkroom. Those days are long gone. Once digital arrived I used a variety of compact cameras whose main virtue was portability and convenience, which sometimes did not provide the sharpest pictures.

With the birth of a grandchild on the way, my wife decided to look for a "really good" camera. She bought this camera at a one day sale at Electronics Expo as part of a kit that also included a 75-300mm lens, tripod, cleaning kit, 4GB SD card, and Bower camera bag--all for $600. After she brought it home the "photo bug" that had been dormant for so many years bit me again. I absolutely love this camera. Here is why.

1. Picture quality is stunning. Don't be overly impressed with the 14.2 megapixels because unless you regularly make 16 x 20 pictures or larger, you won't really notice a difference from a camera with say 10 megapixels. The whole emphasis on megapixels is really just a marketing ploy. The thing to focus on are the lenses, and both lenses that came with our kit take amazing pictures--clear, sharp, vivid colors. I use one of the pictures that I took as a screensaver on my 22 inch monitor, and the detail is incredible. Also, my cousin who is an avid photographer has a much more expensive Nikon DSLR, and because the Sony lenses are so good, there is no noticeable difference in our picture quality.

2. The lenses are easy to remove and put on, and the autofocus and automatic light metering features work very well.

3. The included flash is compact but powerful. No it is not a substitute for an external flash if you do lots of flash photography, but for ordinary use it works just fine.

4. If you are a beginner or just don't want to be bothered with lots of technical details, just set the main control dial to Auto, and the camera will take care of all of your settings for you. If you want to start playing with settings to adjust aperture, shutter, depth of field, ISO settings etc. you can do so. In short, you can simply point and shoot or else start making all kinds of adjustments to become more creative.

5. The manual that comes with the camera is adequate. If you want a book that clearly and concisely explains everything about using this camera with lots of tips for being creative, buy David Busch's book on Sony DSLR A390. I already have his book on the Sony A380, which I used to own and is essentially the same as the A390 (see paragraph 10 below), and can tell you that nobody explains things more clearly. He takes nothing for granted if you are a rank beginner, but at the same time provides tips for more seasoned photographers.

6. The Bower Camera Bag (which I have reviewed on Amazon) is superb for holding all of the equipment, and was part of the package that my wife got. Even with the camera bag loaded with everything, it is not that heavy, and is about the size of an average pocketbook.

7. Lens caps on any DSLR have a way of popping off and getting lost, so I suggest you buy an inexpensive lens cap keeper. I use the one made by Bower (I have reviewed it on Amazon).

8. I suggest buying an extra battery. Battery life is pretty good, but an extra battery is always a good idea. I bought one made by Lenmar that works just as well as the Sony battery, but is half the price (I have reviewed it on Amazon).

9. Although there is no video on this camera, I don't consider that a problem. I have always preferred using a separate video camera because taking videos is much different from taking still photos, and video cameras have a different set of controls that are missing on a DSLR. For the time being I have settled on the latest Flip Ultra HD 8GB 3rd Generation (which I have reviewed on Amazon).

10. Except for the handle grip and a few other minor differences, this camera is basically identical to the Sony A380. Both work equally well, so buy whichever one you can get the best deal on (my wife first bought an A380 package, which we gave to our daughter once our granddaughter arrived, and next bought the A390 package because that was then the best deal).

Bottom Line: Whether you use this camera as a simple point and shoot or start experimenting with the different settings, you can take great pictures. I recommend this. Shop for price. Sony A390 Digital SLR Camera (Black)

This is an excellent camera with many cool features! I compared this with the Nikon D3000 and the Canon Rebel XS, and ended up with this one due to the extra megapixels (14.1 vs. 10.1) and features. The image stabilization is actually in the camera, not in the lenses as with the other 2 cameras mentioned (and then only in the more expensive lenses). Very easy to use. Nice to have the "guide book" with you at all times built into the camera. The tilting live screen is also very handy when taking photos over a crowd or down low and not wanting to get down on your knees to take it. Just remember to purchase a higher speed memory card with the camera. Excellent photo quality - definitely worth the money! - Excellent - Alpha - Photography - Sony'

Compilations - oldies, traditional country

Overall this is a very good compilation for those that don't want to purchase the complete album for every song they liked on the radio in 2008. I personally would have switched out a couple of the tracks for some others, but they didnt ask me, so what can you do? Aside from the Taylor Swift and Rascal Flats tracks (pop country just dont do it for me), I am highly enjoying this cd, probably more than I did/do the first volume. I highly recommend this cd. NOW That's What I Call Country Vol. 2

Fabulous CD. Various (and beloved) current artists. I fell in love with Vol 2.....so I thought I should also have Vol 1...also quite good. (My first love was Vol 2...and always will be). So great that I have a copy for the car...and one for the house.

This album has most of the popular artists singing their top hits. I enjoyed the variety of performances. Keith Urban---what country music lover doesn't love him--- gives this album a great start by performing the first song on the album. This album is a great way to hear the best of these stars.

Singles - whether 7" vinyl or MP3s - have had a tumultuous history. They were the standard bearer in the juke box and top-40 eras, they shared the spotlight with long-playing albums that were purpose-built as "artistic statements," were revitalized as soundtracks to MTV videos, lost ground with the demise of rock radio, and were renewed by per-song download services. Throughout the roller coaster ride of rock singles, the country single retained both its marketing and artistic clout. Country radio continues to be a major force in conveying new music to the commercial mainstream, and country music videos still appear regularly on cable channels. To that end, RCA's second compilation of modern country hits will be quite familiar to listeners who've tuned to country radio the past couple of years.

The generous twenty-track set focuses on hits from the last half of 2008 and first half of 2009, extending all the way to recent hits by Dierks Bentley ("Sideways") and Lady Antebellum ("I Run to You"). Nearly half the tracks are well-known #1s, but the lower-charting hits offer substantial charms. Jamie Johnson's "In Color" (which peaked at #9) is as good as any of the chart-toppers, Trade Adkins' "Marry for Money" (#14) is a catchy honky-tonker, Josh Turner's "Everything is Fine" (#20) digs deeply into his lazy low notes, Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder & Lead" (#7) is firey, Gary Allen's "Learning How to Bend" (#13) is an emotional tour de force, and George Strait's "Troubadour" (#7) remains a terrific statement about age, experience and principle.

The bulk of these productions lean to the polished country-pop end of Nashville's output, but there are a few twangy tracks and some powerful country-rockers. Many of the songs are loaded with radio-ready melodic hooks and sing-along choruses. The instantly recognizable voices of Turner, Johnson, Adkins and Strait and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland will remind you how thoroughly a country singer can stamp a song with the tone of their voice. Oddly, Carrie Underwood is featured singing her 2007 cover of Randy Travis' "I Told You So" from her album Carnival Ride, rather than the recent hit duet with Travis himself. Perhaps there was a licensing problem, but this over-emotional rendition doesn't measure up to the more recent remake.

Those who buy the physical CD gain web access to five recent tracks from young artists: David Nail's "Turning Home," Easton Corbin's "A Little More Country That That," Chris Young's "Getting' You Home," Caitlin & Will's "Address in the Stars," and Emily West's "Blue Sky." That's a nice bonus on top of the hit-packed disc and a clever way for the label group to expose new artists to modern country fans. Note that downloading the bonus tracks will require you to run a piece of Java code downloaded to your browser from Push Entertainment; this applet validates that the CD is present in your computer's drive. 3-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings.
