Blu-ray - netflix, lg

I was told by a friend that this unit was great but I could not find many reviews at amazon and actually it had only one review and was negative. I went to my local video store and they had the unit for a good price plus a 30 days money back guarantee so I gave it a try. Setup took me less than 10 minutes in total, from the moment I opened the box to the moment I was streaming a Netflix movie.

I have a wireless network created with an Apple Airport Express router. I connected the LG unit to the TV with an HDMI cable (not included). Connected the unit to the AC power and connected the included USB wireless adaptor. When I turned the unit ON, the HOME screen was easy to understand, went to SETUP and clicked on NETWORK. My home network was listed, entered my password and in 30 seconds it was connected. I went to HOME, clicked on the ONLINE icon and then clicked on Netflix icon. The unit connected, gave me a Netflix code that I entered in my account using my computer and in less than 1 minute I was connected and browsing titles.

Picture quality very good. Overall very satisfied. DVD quality as well as Blu-Ray quality is very good and similar to higher end units that retail for 2x more. LG BD640 Network Wireless Blu-ray Disc Player

This product works as well as the package directions and reviews indicated. Super easy set up for a novice like me. Nice slim design makes it unobtrusive and the small footprint is appreciated amidst all the other devices (satellite, DVD/VCR, sound bar.)

The wireless LG dongle works flawlessly with great speed connected to our wireless router. Must say, though, that the wireless router is in the same room. Incredibly clear and crisp video through Netflix for movies made in 1969 & the 1970's. Haven't tried a blu-ray DVD yet (need to bring them back from being on loan.)

I bought this player since it was on sale and would connect wirelessly to stream movies from Netflix. I've been using my new player for about a month, and it works great with my HDMI-connected HD LCD TV. The setup was very easy...it found my wireless router and accepted the router password and connected right away. I've been using it for Netflix streamed movies, have watched a bunch of them, and have never had a glitch or pause in any of them. When you first power it on, it takes about a minute to connect to Netflix and bring up the menu with all of the movies in your queue. I've also played DVDs and Blu-rays without any issues. The remote is easy to use for Netflix or disks.

I only had 2 small issues:

1) I had one aesthetic issue ... it comes with a largish USB style stick that is it's wireless connection. It plugs in and sticks out of the front right of the machine. It's 1" wide and sticks out 3". I was surprised the wireless wasn't integrated in like a PlayStation 3. Since the player sits on a small table, I worried about hitting it as I walked by and made sure to push the player back. The player itself is only 8" deep, so +3" makes it 11", so it wasn't a problem pushing it back.

2) I'm not sure if some players have more memory, but on some of the blu-ray's I've rented or bought, the Internet interactive features (like BD live) give a message that there is not enough memory to download the software. Since I don't care about online interactive features, it doesn't matter to me, but you should research this if this is important to you.

EDITED TO ADD: After reading the manual, it appears that in order to use the BD Live function, you need to attach a USB memory stick to download the content. And in order to do this wirelessly, since the player has only 1 USB slot, you buy and insert a USB hub into the one slot, and then insert the memory card AND the wireless card into the hub. I have not tried this.

It's a nice base model by LG. Word 'network' is misleading as it cannot play media saved on a network. It can connect to the network to access internet, and stream internet content such as Netflix, Youtube, etc. It is not DLNA certified (couldn't believe for a product as latest as this one). Only one USB port, which will be occupied if you want to connect it wirelessly (with supplied USB dongle).

Setup is much easier and straight-forward than a Sony BD player. If your purpose is just to play blu-ray disks (and only stream from internet, but not from your network), it is simply one of the best!

We'd purchased a different model of LG Blu-ray player for our main TV a few months ago, and were so impressed that we decided we needed a wireless player to match up with the bedroom TV, as well. One of the key features we required on any wireless Blu-ray player was to be able to watch Netflix or similar service. After researching quite a few in the price range we were looking at, we again chose LG, and are glad we did. Blu-ray/DVD playback is excellent on this machine. The menuing system is very similar to the downstairs device (although that one is paired with a compatible LG TV, while this one is paired with another brand). The remotes for the two players are very similar in layout and function...a feature I really like.

I can use it as a music player, but since we don't have speakers, other than those on the TV, I don't usually use this function. All in all, I am very happy with this Blu-ray player. The price through Amazon was the best I found, and the delivery (I opted to pay shipping charges to get it a bit faster) was as promised.

Very good for the price. Can connect to Netflix, CinemaNow, Vudu and Youtube. I connected to the Internet with the wired input for better performance, but the unit can connect wireless using the supplied wireless USB dongle. I haven't tested that. Internet services are a breeze to use.

The blu-ray works fine. Startup times seems average. This is my first Blu-Ray unit. I Watched True Grit in Blu-Ray and although the image was nice, it did not blow the doors off plain DVD. I would not have guessed it was Blu-Ray had I not known. Maybe playing them back to back would show a difference? This is not a knock against this unit as this is my first Blu-Ray, maybe my expectations were too high for Blu-Ray.

If you need a no-frills Blu_Ray unit with good connectivity without paying for all the other extras, this is it. - Lg - Netflix'

Office Supplies - pencil sharpener, electric pencil sharpener

I don't sharpen pencils but my kids do and they are happy with this Swingline sharpener.

It's probably worth noting that the battery is only an option, not the main power source. Unless you're on the road the sharpener is going to stay plugged into a wall outlet but it's good to know that, come a hurricane or a blackout, the battery option is there. By the way, you are going to need SIX AA batteries.

What we like the most about the Swingline is its being a good pencil sharpener. We also like its shape/design, its quiet operation and the battery as an alternative power source. It's easy to maintain and clean and it performed well so far.

Absent any defects it's a five-star rating by default. Swingline Compact Electric Pencil Sharpener, with Battery Power Option (29965)

This sharpener is much bigger than I expected. I had to sharpen 24 #2 pencils for my daughters kindergarden class - it hasn't been used since. Of those 24 pencils, they are different lengths as the sharpener quickly sharpened some pencils and not so quickly on others (evenly around was the same type of variability). If you are looking for a home use/kids school pencils type of sharpener this is fine. If you need percision, this probably isn't it.

It looks pretty study so I do expect it to last a while.

Almost magical.

I inserted an unsharpened pencil into it, and soon thereafter I held in my hand a sharp pencil!

I feel like a wizard, or some sort of genius with this tool. My pencils are sharp, in any case.

Put batteries in sharpener right after it arrived in the mail. When sharpening the first pencil, it began to smell and smoke started to come out of the battery compartment. I don't know if the same thing would have happened if I had used it plugged in. As a side note, it also broke the pencil lead. Returned it to Amazon without difficulty.

I had this item on my Christmas wish list, after considerable research on pencil sharpners. However, when I did get it, it broke within 2 seconds of inserting a pencil into the shaprner! A small plastic piece broke off inside. I say, that for an instrument that can't even sharpen a pencil without breaking, it is a cheap badly made product. I will never buy it again and am sending it back to amazon.

Note: This review is being written by the husband of "MomOfTwoBoys", who is currently sitting in a Yoga position, sipping a glass of white wine, and chanting oooom in an attempt to bring down her blood pressure.

I would rate this pencil sharpener as two stars. My wife says one star and only because "zero stars" is not an option. My wife is not an overly critical person by nature but her contempt for this model sharpener has no bounds. She can't get it to work. She tries gently sticking in the pencil, she tries it forcefully, she tries twisting the pencil as she inserts it...nada, zilch, nothing. For a while she found that unpluging the power adapter from the unit would cause the sharpner to spring into action, but sadly, no more. My interactions with the device have been a little better. I found that if I had a positive attitude when using it, I got better results. I would say a few encouraging words and I could get one or two pencils sharpened before the thing would refuse to service me anymore. But if I waited 10 or 20 minutes and came back with some more sweet words of kindness, I could tweak out another sharperning, but really, who has that kind of time. Trying to get through a pack of 20 pencils for your kids' school supplies on a Sunday night can take the better part of the evening if my patience persists and meanwhile my wife is in the other word calling the machine names that I cannot repeat here. So, no, I would not recommend this Swingline automatic pencil sharpner for its intended use. Now, if have an itch to annoy your spouse who is typically an easy going person, then that's a different matter all together!

I bought this because I needed an automatic pencil sharpener and it had a nice design.

I could care less about the design but if I am going to get one, why not get one with a sleek design?

But this pencil sharpener does not even work properly.

After trying to sharpen a few different types of standard-sized pencils with this machine, I gave up.

I don't usually write reviews on products I buy, but I just wanted to warn people.

I ordered it as a new product but received it with pencil scraps still remained in the container. The pencil sharpener stalled after I sharpened 3 pencils and needed to empty the container for restart. I contacted Amazon and received my refund. I do not recommend "BestSource Stationers" as the reseller and I am not sure the the low quality Swingline Compact Electric Pencil Sharpener is due to the manufacture or the reseller. The refund process was done by Amazon chat and it took about 25 mins for less than 10 conversations. I think it was little long since the representive didn't inform me what he was doing on the other side and just left me waiting. I will definitely shop with Amazon again for the refund policy for this incident. - Pencil Sharpener - Electric Sharpener - Electric Pencil Sharpener - School Supplies'

Melissa And Doug - pretend play, cookies

We have a play kitchen but, did not have any play food. I wanted something durable and not the cheaper plastic that eventually would end up in the trash. I had originally purchased this for my daughter's birthday but, when it came it looked too fun to wait!! Even my sons (aged 8 & 4 1/2) have gotten in on the cookie making action. Great, durable toy that helps them use their imagination. Melissa & Doug Slice and Bake Cookie Set

I purchased this toy for my 3 year old son for Christmas, and I know he would've loved it. I just saw, however, that this item, along with 2 other M&D toys, has been recalled in Canada for unsafe Barium levels in the paint. I am returning it, as I don't want to take the risk. I am very disappointed. For some reason, I trusted the M&D brand more than I trust many other brands.

This is a great toy for kids who are into PROCESSES! They can take the cookies out of the tube, slice them, put them on the cookie sheet, then after they are "baked", add frosting, then take them off the cookie sheet with the spatula. My daughter loves the step-by-step process, learning how baking works. She also loves to walk around and serve the cookies to everyone, asking which one they want. Another QUALITY product from Melissa and Doug... they really think of everything with this one! This set will become my new birthday gift for 2-3 year olds!

This is such a wonderful idea! My two year old daughter was completely taken with this toy on display so I have purchased it for her for Christmas. There are so many different combinations for the cookies, so many ways to play with it. The velcro is a fun way to mix and match cookie dough and the utensils are so realistic. My 4 1/2 year old son was intrigued with these too so I know that they will be fun to play with for a long time. Excellent product-I can't rave enough!

After reading comments about the recall in Canada, I did a little searching and found this site where Doug responds to the recall. After reading his detailed reply, I feel very comfortable keeping the toys I have from Melissa and Doug and buying more. I recommend people go to this site and read the report.[...]

My 2 year old loves this cookie set. He plays with it more than all of the other Melissa and Doug food sets that he has.

The cookie's frosting Velcros onto the cookie and the cookies Velcro onto the tray. The set comes with a dozen cookies with frosting, a spatula to remove the cookies from the baking sheet with, a baking sheet, and a tube to put all your "unbaked" cookies into.

My son loves taking the cookies out of the tube, placing them on the tray, and baking them. Then he loves to use the spatula to get the cookies off of the tray and runs around the house giving everyone cookies.

We hear "Mama, I'm baking cookies!" come out of the playroom all of the time. This is a great little set and has given hours of entertainment to our little boy.

His second favorite Melissa and Doug food set would have to be the Melissa & Doug Wooden Sushi. The sushi set was his favorite until he got this cookie set for his birthday.

The only trouble we have with this set is that our dog loves to chew on wood; so we have to make sure to put everything away before we leave the house otherwise it ends up chewed. Hmmm...maybe these cookies are yummy even though they are wood.

I am a mother of three (children ages 6yrs,5yrs and 17 months)wanting durable toys, that can hold up to rough play and teething. Overall, I was very pleased. However, the cookie tube is made of cardboard and the inside lining was unraveling when it arrived. I just reattached the paper that was pealing with some hotglue and the kids were ready to play. I am not convinced that the cardboard tube will hold up over time with removing and replacing the endcap (for storing the cookie dough). I wish the cookie tube was made of plastic, but my children are really enjoying slicing and making cookies, so I would still recommend the product to others.

I just found out that this toy, along with some other Melissa and Doug toys, has been recalled. To the best of my knowledge the recall is only for Canada so far, but American buyers should probably also be cautious. Please check the toy recall lists before you purchase!! I am sure we all want our kids to have a safe and happy holiday.

My daughter loves baking these cookies, especially since you can interchange the toppings. I like their durability. The only drawback is the cookie sheet does not fit in her kitchen oven. It is made to fit in the oven of the wooden play kitchens. Otherwise, a great investment.

I purchased this for our 2 year old daughter last November and she loved it. It does encourage creative play. However, she also likes to put the cookies in her mouth and bite them and after reading about the unsafe barium levels and the Canadian recall yesterday I got rid of the entire thing today and told my daughter it was "broken" so she would understand why one of her favorite toys was all of a sudden missing. I am also getting rid of our other M+D food group toys and replacing it with wooden food by PLAN toys, which are organic and NOT made in China. They sell a great selection on Amazon. Both PLAN toys and GREEN TOYS are fantastic companies with no bad chemicals (the usual list) and they are made in Thailand and US, respectively. Very disappointing to hear this about M+D but not surprising in the least considering all their toys now come from China. - Pretend Play - Play Food - Cookies - Wooden Food'

Interior Design Reference - interior design books, art books

If you wish to pursue a successful career as an interior designer, or you are keen to develop your interest in this field, my advice to you is to buy this book. Buy it, read it, and make it your good friend! Whatever your background, this course will encourage your individual creativity and help you to explore and further your own design ideas.

I am a student in The Metropolitan Institute of Interior Design, a career changer with English as a second language. I have read some interior design educational books before, but none of them gave me as much knowledge, nor inspired me to approach the subject with as much enthusiasm and passion as this book by Susan Slotkis. Foundations of Interior Design

Susan Slotkis' Foundations of Interior Design is a gem of a book. More than just the basics, Ms. Slotkis' book includes critical details: from the historic backgrounds of furniture styles to color theory to the essentials of running an interior design business. And, the photographs and illustrations--many from Ms. Slotkis' own work as a practicing interior designer--support the concepts presented in the text. This book is a must for everyone who is passionate about interior design and wants to learn more.

I took a class at FIT with Susan Slotkis for which she required this book. I gave me such a great introduction to interior design and its components that it definitely had an impact in my life. Now I'm studying Interior Design and I love it. This book is my bible. thanks Susan!

Joanna Ramirez

"Foundations of Interior Design" is an instrumental key for designers, design students and design enthusiasts all the same. This must-have handbook explores the profession from the inside-out, giving a vast overview of interior design as a whole yet delving into just the right amount of significant detail. Slotkis' style perfectly simplifies even the most intricate of information while providing plenty of helpful visuals along the way. Its title certainly rings true, for the "foundation" Slotkis lays for interior design is by far a solid one.

This well written, comprehensive, book on design has been an inspiration to me. I thoroughly enjoy referring to it again and again. I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering the design field, or who enjoys design simply for the pleasure of it!

This is a great reference book on interior design! It covers all the subjects of an interior design that a degree program would cover: design theory, color theory, history of design, business practices etc...(it's also a great source for the interior design vocabulary!)

I am an interior design student and this is the first place I go to when I need to research some aspect related to the design field.

And I just know it - it'll be my much used resource when I am out of school and working in the field.

This is one of the few textbooks I saved to keep for reference after completing design school. Very enjoyable to read, and easily digested. This was the textbook used for my business practices course, but I wish I knew about it earlier- there are chapters that would have been extremely helpful for coursework in studio, lighting design, survey of interior design, and others. It is a very comprehensive book, but is written in a way that makes the information easy to take in, and not at all overwhelming. Format is easy to follow, and there are great visuals on every page. I highly recommend this book!

Foundations of Interior design by Susan Slotkis is an in depth study of Interior Design and should be in every designers library and used by design students as a reference and guide, both in the classroom and after.

Foundations is more than a textbook. It is an easy and fascinating read for anyone interested in interior design as a hobby or career. It should be required reading for every interior design student and professional. As a former student of the author, I could hear Susan Slotkis' voice as I read from the pages of the book. If you can't have her for a professor, this book is the next best thing. - Architecture - Interior Design Reference - Interior Design Books - Art Books'

Reasonable Price - hand lotion, organic

Not only is this product excellent for hydration (especially after shaving), it smells nice but not overpowering. For those like me who are very sensitive to all forms of gluten, it never irritates my skin or gives me that icky feeling from absorbing gluten through my skin. Desert Essence Organics Body Care Hand and Body Lotion, Vanilla Chai , 8-Ounces

We love this product, and its smell! We ordered this for our baby because it was organic in hopes that it would help our baby's eczema, and it truly has. Initially, we were skeptical because of the fragrance, but with it being all organic - it has worked wonders!

A house guest had left behind a small amount in a tube. I thought I really liked the lotion and the scent so I bought it through Amazon. The scent of the new bottle was much stronger and sweeter than I had expected. I didn't think the quality was worth the money, either.

I got this for my daughter after she had a soap reaction that left her hands flaky, dry and chapped. In a day, using gloves and this lotion, her hands were much improved. In two days they were normal again. The scent is pleasant, and it absorbs well. It's not greasy feeling, and it's a nice thick cream. It's reasonably priced, and I'm very happy with how well it worked on her hands. It also seems to hold up well to winter, my hands feels nice and soft and I use it only in the morning and at night.

I totally love Coconut, fantastic sexy scent and excellent hydration!! Because I love drinking chai, I tried Vanilla chai, it was not a good idea at all. It smells weird, too spicy...I mean, who on earth wants to smell spicy?? Dessert essence is absolutely my favorite lotion, but I highly recommend that you avoid the Vanilla chai flavor.

I bought this lotion after I started "skin brushing". The directions recomended to use an organic almond lotion so I decided to give this a try. The smell is wonderful and it has a very luxurious feel and is a great moisturizer. Would recommend this to all my friends and will be using this lotion exclusively. - Organic - Lotion - Hand Lotion - Hand Cream'

Low-profile-plu

The Coleman Cable 035188801 Flatplug 12-Feet Thin Profile Extension Cord, 3-Prong, White far exceeded my expectations. I was simply looking for a low-profile cord to use in the house, but I got an extra bonus.

I wanted to plug into an outlet behind my bookcases. The cord did that, but what I couldn't tell from the poorly written product explanation was that the plug is also slightly tilted to the left. If you look closely at the prongs in the second manufacturer's photo you will see that they don't line up with the cord itself. What does this mean?

The cord on low profile extension cords usually blocks the bottom socket, or you have to plug the extension cord into the bottom one in order to leave the top one free, but with this one, it doesn't matter whether you use this plug in the top or bottom, because the cord will not get in the way. This made a huge difference for me, because one of the sockets in my apartment is tied to the light switch in the wall, and the other one is a regular socket, so I needed that flexibility. Thanks Coleman, for putting that little bit of extra ingenuity into the product! Coleman Cable 35178801 Flat Plug Extension Cord with 3-Outlet Strip, 6-Foot

I ordered this product, a Flatplug, and a Slimline plug to see which I liked best. This was the thickest of all of them, at .61". The Flatplug was only .44" and has the wire handle to boot. The other end (the 3-outlet-end) is nearly identical on both - the Coleman (this one) being molded from hard rubber is heavier and felt more durable, and has the flexible protection where the cord joins the housing. It was also slightly more compact than the hard-plastic Flatplug counterpart.

Verdict: if you need the plug to be as thin as possible (which is kinda the point of these products), definitely go with the Flatplug. If you want to save a buck or need the extra length, go with the Coleman.

The best of both worlds would be the Flatplug plug and the Coleman outlets.

Three prong cable with angle plug - lays flat against the wall so you can push furniture right up against the wall. It only blocks one of the two plugs. It is white, but not stark white - more of an off-white.

I purchased three of these mainly because I like the arrangement of the outlets. Most Extension cords have two outlets on one side and one on the other. This makes for a very large wad of wires and plugs on both sides of the extension cord. These have all three outlets on one side. This makes for a much flatter arrangement with the ability to use a double sided tape and tape the outlets down making it easier to keep it in one place. Very well made product.

This extension cord works great for conference rooms where multiple people need to plug in laptops, or anywhere an extension is needed. The added benefit of a low profile plug for the wall is nice if you have to plug it in behind furniture, or just want a more streamlined look.

Great power strips!

I've frequently plugged in devices with higher outputs than what it lists as it's limit and works without fail including Electric Ceramic Heating Coil, Portable Battery Charging Station, Laptop AC Charger, and even a mini-fridge!

I'm not suggesting doing this at all, but it's capability to power such over-demanding devices obviously proves quality.'
