Exhaust Fan Timer - bathroom fan timer, exhaust fan timer
The best home automation upgrade you can make is to install these on your bathroom fans. The timer never forgets to turn off the fan. The real energy savings is that you do not needlessly blow a bunch of heated or cooled air out of your house.
After 11 years, the buttons on my most heavily used unit started to fall off. This is because each button is held on by four extremely thin and brittle fingers. I'm a bit miffed that I have to replace the entire unit just for this. Hopefully in the past decade Leviton has corrected this weakness in the design.
Here are my recommendations for these units:
* In new construction, install deep junction boxes everywhere so that if you decide to install bulky controls like this timer, they'll fit
* Install only units that can handle "inductive load", like the LTB models. This means they can control motors and fluorescent lighting. Lighting options are changing these days, so don't limit yourself to "incandescent only".
* Install 30 minute LTB30-1LZ or 15 minute LTB15-1LZ timers for half bathrooms. That's plenty of time to evacuate a small room of noxious odors.
* Install 60 minute LTB60-1LZ timers for full baths. The extra time is needed to clear out all the moisture, and you can always choose less time.
* In the garage I use a 2 hour LTB02-1LZ timer for the lights over the cars and laundry
* For the lights over my workbench where I am engaged for longer periods of time, I use a 12 hour LTB12-1LZ timer Leviton LTB60-1LZ Decora 1800W Incandescent/20A Resistive-Inductive 1HP Preset 10-20-30-60 Minute Countdown Timer Switch,White/Ivory/Light Almond
I love these switches for my bathroom vent fans and heater fans so I don't forget to switch them off. I like the way they look, and they are extremely simple to use.
This is a replacement for the older model 6230. The differences are:
- The LED's are green (6230 was red).
- 3 different color button covers are included.
- Neutral connection is mandatory (the 6230 didn't need the neutral for low current applications, this one does)
- Support for 3-way operation.
- Smaller heatsink, no need to break off tabs for side-by-side switches.
These switches are very deep - if you are installing a new box, get the deep kind like this one so you'll have plenty of space for the wiring:
Thomas & Betts #BH234R 2G OldWork SuperBLU Box
We bought super quiet fans for the bathroom which was great. The downside was that they were quiet enough to be left on. The controllers by Leviton in Home Depot only control lights, they are not strong enough for fans. After installing these ones from Amazon, its great. They work with the vent fans and turn themselves off. With 4 kids in the house, its perfect! They come with different color button controllers to match your environment. Feels like a quality product and acts like one.
Great switch. I have it on my bathroom fan to control the fan only (light is on its own switch).
Its been on for about a month and works great. Its nice to be able to keep the fan on for 10-15 minutes after you get out of the shower without worrying about going back and turning it off.
Install was pretty straightforward, if you know how to wire a switch. NOTE that you need to have a neutral wire at the switch for the timer to work. It also has a wire to run a 3-way switch, which I didn't use. (who uses 3-way switches on a fan???? Maybe if you had this on a light?)
Anyway, make sure you have a decent amount of room in your switch box. This thing is kinda big (about the size of a GFCI outlet, maybe a bit bigger).
(and I don't know why the one guy gave it a 3-star because he later found a 60 minute timer... I think an hour for a bath fan is too long... this one is perfect. And even if he likes another option better, it doesn't mean that this switch is bad...)
UPDATE
- switch is still working great after several months
- I noticed in the manual that you can reprogram these switches... if you decide that you wanted to have a 60 minute timer you can go through a sequence of buttons to change it. You would have to relabel the buttons, but this is an option for those that change their mind and wish they had a 60 minute timer and then rate this switch real low.
First, having the ability to let the fan run for 30 minutes after a shower is awesome. Really helps keep the shower draw an allays any mold fears.
Installation can be tricky. You'll need a neutral line (white) in the box. I had a junction of 3 neutral lines in the box and I was able to tap right into that. However, if you're installing more than one of these on the same circuit, you'll need to isolate the neutral that goes to the appliance. However, most people are probably just installing this in the bathroom and shouldn't have that issue.
You'll also need to know which load (black) line goes to the appliance, in my case bathroom fan. If you wire the load backwards, it won't work properly. Take your time and you'll be fine. So you'll have two black lines that you're taking off your old switch and will need to figure out which one goes to the actual appliance. In theory if you reversed them, no damage will happen, the switch just won't operate. So if you are having problems, check that.
This is a nice switch that works well alone. However, if you plan to use it for a three-way application, good luck. It is not compatible with a regular toggle switch, and even if you order the vizio+ switch specified in the instructions, that won't work either. Sadly, I had to find this out the hard way by hiring a master electrician for several hours to work on the switches and talk with Leviton technical support before they admitted that the vizio+ doesn't work.
So, use it for a two-way application and you will be happy. Use it for a three-way application and you will be poorer and disappointed. - Bathroom Fan - Bathroom Fan Timer - Exhaust Fan Timer - Energy Efficient'

For anyone out there who is considering whether or not to make the leap and purchase the iPad 2, this review is for you. If you're still debating between the iPad 1 and the iPad 2 check out my review of the first generation iPad right here on Amazon to see a discussion of its strengths and weaknesses with a number of people commenting (both positively and negatively) over the past 11 months.
Let me begin by saying this upfront, I don't work for Apple, I don't own Apple Stock, and whether you buy an iPad, Xoom, a laptop or a pad of paper and pencil I don't get anything for writing this. I'm not an Apple "fanboy" although I can give credit where credit is due and lately Apple has deserved a lot of credit for some of their products.
Physical Characteristics
The iPad 2 is absurdly thin. More importantly than it's thinness is its tapered edge which feels more natural in your hand. One of the biggest complaints about the original iPad was it really wasn't tremendously comfortable to hold for long periods at a time. For a tablet device designed to be held, that's a pretty big deal. Apple really has done an amazing job of cramming everything into an even smaller space than before and the difference is really noticeable when you're holding the device. In addition to the tapered edge, Apple managed to reduce the overall weight of the iPad 2. That might not seem like a huge deal to most, especially when you consider the weight difference isn't tremendous when you're already under 2 pounds, but I spend a good part of my day holding the iPad in my hands and the weight difference is surprising by the end of the day. The first generation isn't heavy by any means, but the iPad 2 outshines it.
New and "Improved"
Apple doubled the RAM in the iPad 2 from 256MB to 512MB. What does that mean? For most casual users, probably not a whole lot. There is a performance bump that everyone will see the effects of in things like loading times for webpages that are open in the background, but 256MB was sufficient for most daily use and games. If you're planning to use your device for some of the more graphically intense games the iPad 2 does offer a better method of graphics processing that'll help deliver faster images with fewer jerky movements. If you're just playing Angry birds and reading e-mail you're not going to know the difference.
The screen is the same for all real purposes. It is technically a "new" part in that it isn't identical to the old, it's a bit thinner and more efficient, but it's the same resolution. The Glass is thinner though, and this amounts to a fair bit of the weight loss from one generation to the next. In playing with the device it seems surprising but despite feeling lighter it actually feels more sturdy in your hands. I still wouldn't suggest dropping it, but if it were to fall the iPad 2 certainly feels like it might stand a better chance to survive. Try not to drop it though.
The addition of 2 cameras was expected. Some were a bit surprised to see the first generation released without the cameras. Whether it was for a price point consideration, or a means to get people to upgrade, Apple held off until iPad 2. The cameras do a reasonable job, but they're not going to replace a dedicated digital camera, or really even the camera on your phone for most still images. The cameras do a substantially better job with video, and FaceTime is probably one of the best reasons to get the iPad 2 over the original iPad. For those who might not be familiar, FaceTime is Apple's face to face conferencing system, kind of like Skype, or if you'd rather, kind of like the Jetson's TV/Phone. With the push of a button you can be having a face to face chat with a loved one just about anywhere in the world (provided they're on a wireless network at the time). FaceTime doesn't work over 3G natively (it can be used over a wifi connection created by a 3G device however) so you're not going to be able to use it in your car anytime soon. This is probably a good thing though. It is incredibly easy to use and if you know other people with an iPad 2, iPhone 4, or Mac it's a lot of fun.
Smart Covers aren't really "smart" but they're really very useful. Not only do they provide a stylistic enhancement of the device, but they serve a practical and functional purpose of doubling as a screen protector and stand in 2 configurations. You can find them in a variety of colors and from third market suppliers, and it's a safe bet that more will be out soon to capitalize on the magnetic sensors in the iPad 2. It's unfortunate that this same feature can't somehow be retrofitted to the iPad 1, I wouldn't have thought a case would be a compelling reason to consider a product over it's competitor, but these covers are really so useful it's hard to understand why they've not been there since the beginning.
Multitasking Support
One of the biggest knocks against the iPad when first released was the lack of native multi-tasking support. Jailbreakers added the feature quickly and Apple soon realized it would be a requirement for any future device's success and released an OS update that included the feature. The iPad 2 capitalizes on that progress and takes it a step further with the increased RAM enabling more open applications to be suspended at once, and the time to open or close an application has improved as well. That said, even the first generation managed to open and close apps faster than most people would be used to on their computers, so while this is an improvement it's more akin to showing off.
Apps
One thing that Apple has clearly the advantage in for the moment is app availability. The App store has close to 70,000 iPad specific Apps, all of which will work on the iPad 2. The new cameras will undoubtedly see this list expand rapidly, as will the inclusion of a gyroscope for gaming and motion based uses. There are also a substantial number of professional applications ranging from document creation to photo editing and vector drawing. Chances are if you can dream it, there's an App for that (and if not you might want to get started on one to fill in the gap). The Android market is making a strong showing, and ultimately it'll likely be a strong competitor, for now it still has a ways to go, but any potential buyer should consider the strength of the application market before buying a tablet.
Pros:
Weight. Seriously. The minimal weight of this thing is by far the most impressive feature about it in my opinion. It seems to defy physics and logic that so much could be in such a small space working that hard for that long.
Battery Life. From full to dead my iPad 2 went just over 11 hours with the movie Robin Hood showing twice during that time, the screen at half brightness, wifi turned on, an Angry Birds marathon and a good portion of a book in ibook. That's better than a work day and that's constantly on.
Books. This is definitely a Pro, but reading itself could go either way. The great benefit to the iPad is having access to Google Books, ibook, Nook, and Kindle. This allows for some comparison shopping and price competition (although for the most part they're all usually about the same). Reading in the evenings in bed is great as the back light means you don't have to worry about keeping others awake, but the glass screen causes some glare trouble when trying to read outside or near a sunny window. If you're an avid outdoor reader the Kindle might still be your best bet.
Cons:
Still no dedicated USB support. While there is a camera add-on that allows for certain USB devices to be used there is no option for mass storage. Some of the Android Tablets allow for this and if you find yourself wanting to use your tablet as a standalone storage device this might be something to consider. The device can read from certain flash drives though, but is largely limited to photo and video files. Jailbreaks offer solutions to this, but those come with their own issues as well.
Still no dedicated SD card slot. This is troublesome on two fronts. First, if you want to import pictures from your camera you have to have an adapter which is just one more thing to carry around. Second, the lack of expansion means you're limited to what you purchase in terms of storage. I purchased a 32GB iPad last time and never filled it up completely, so for me capacity wasn't an issue. If you want to be able to have your entire movie collection with you though... you may want to consider whether the iPad 2 can meet your space requirements.
HDMI output. Really this is a Pro and a Con. The iPad does allow for HD output over HDMI but again it requires an adapter. All of these adapters are additional purchases for features that some tablets offer built in. This can be a pain, but then again if you're not likely to ever use HDMI Output then you're not paying for something you won't use.
No Flash Support. This is becoming less and less of an issue as the internet and web developers are moving away from Flash for many websites, but there are a lot still out there relying on Adobe's Flash to run properly (including a lot of web based games). Before you pick a tablet consider what kind of websites you frequent and try and determine if they are Flash driven or not. If they are you may really want to consider something from the Android offerings as it is expected that they'll have at least some Flash support.
If you're in the market for a tablet device the iPad 2 should definitely be on your short list. If you're uncertain it is always best to go and play with these things hands on first if you can. Best Buy is a good place for that, so are Verizon Stores since they have the Xoom and 3G iPad. Don't get pulled into the hype and mania that comes with an Apple release. They're exciting and new, and they're impressive enough to warrant some excitement, but it will die down and there will be other products that prove a strong competitor to the iPad 2. If you're looking for right now though, this is probably your best bet. I gave the device 4 stars, as I did the iPad 1. I did this in contemplation of the features offered by competitors that are absent from the iPad, most notably the requirement for adapters for USB/SD/HDMI. While these features are there, they aren't as convenient as in other tablets. With that in mind I firmly believe that the iPad more than makes up for this in usability, reliability, and design and in those areas far exceeds its current competitors. Frustration-fre - 16gb, sdhc
Well, it was great while it lasted. Unfortunately, it did not last long.
Like other reviewers, after <20 use cycles the device failed and I got a "lock" error when, in fact, the write-protection lock was not engaged. Oddly, by engaging the lock (i.e. entering read-only mode) I was able to remove the picture files from the card. Obviously, further use in the camera was impossible; I was also unable to reformat the card (either with my camera or with the SD Associations free software [..]).
This card has a high average rating but I would urge customers to consider the number of 1-star ratings due to complete product failure before they purchase this item. Transcend 16 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card TS16GSDHC6E
Transcend 16 GB SDHC SD Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS16GSDHC6E [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging]
I have 4 of these cards that I use in my Panasonic HMC-150, a professional grade video camera. I've run read/write tests on all of them and they get about 14 MB/s write speeds and 17.5 MB/s read speeds. Never encountered any errors! These cards are the best bang for your buck, and the frustration free packaging is awesome.
I recently ordered this card as an accessory for my Acer Aspire One netbook PC. The card took a little while to ship, about 8 days, but that wasn't a big deal. The card has lots of space, and the read speeds are quite impressive. I mostly use it to run and store portable software, and it does a very good job at that.
My only complaint is that when I first inserted the card into my PC it attempted to install some adware. The program was from a company called RelevantKnowledge, and they gather your information for market research purposes. Luckily my spyware software picked it up immediately,so I was able to delete it. Afterward I formatted the card, and now I'm happy as can be.
This was a great fast card while it worked. I used it several times during one month period, and then it crashed and now Windows says "delayed write failed" everytime I insert it into my SDHC reader (tried diff readers on couple PCs). It is ok to use this card for fast transfer of copies of your data (like play images in digital picture frame), but should not be used as a primary storage for images/video (e.g. used in digital or video camera on a vacation of a lifetime).
This 16GB HC SD card works wonderfully in my digital camera. It arrived fast and the Amazon frustration free packaging is just that - easy to open, less waste to dispose of, and less annoying! What can I say, so far, the card works wonderfully and even Best Buy and other stores don't have SD cards this big yet. They only had 8GB when I looked and they wanted as much as a 16GB here on Amazon.
Like all SD cards, the back side's vertical, blue plastic pieces are delicate. I wouldn't use these, or any SD cards, in a card reader. Just plug your camera into the USB directly to transfer images, much safer for the card.
Great deal!
I bought this memory card for my Canon SD1100is, it works great and at 8MP can hold about 1,900 pictures. If only I would have waited until they came out with the frustration-free packaging for this! That was by far the most annoying part, trying to get into the thing. Do yourself a favor and buy the one with the new packaging! --> Transcend TS8GSDHC6E 8 GB SDHC Card (SD 2.0 SPD Class 6) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] Oh, I should also add that amazon is the best place to buy any kind of memory card. I've compared prices with stores and they're always about twice as much there as on amazon. The money you can save is worth waiting a day or two to get it.
I would not recommend this card for any use where you can't afford to lose data. The card although quite speedy, failed on reading out images and movies on it's third use. The card now shows only 11 GB and the only way I was able to get some of my images back was with a data recovery software which read the low level blocks. I suspect one of the banks on the flash failed taking about a quarter of my images with it.
My experience does not seem to be unique. Unfortunately, I didn't read the other reviews before I placed my order. I have an 8GB Transcend SDHC which has worked flawlessly for over a year, so I thought I could extrapolate form that experience :-(
Hopefully, I'll be able to get my money back. Even if Transcend replaces it, I doubt that I would ever use it out of fear of losing valuable pictures.
I bought two of these to use in my Canon XSi and I ordered both of them with Amazon's frustration-free packaging, which is a wonderful idea. I thought the price was reasonable even though they were more expensive with the new packaging, and they both seem to be good cards. Both worked upon arrival and I formatted and used both without a problem. I was hesitant at first to purchase them because I didn't recognize the brand. I have always purchased memory cards from Kingston and SanDisk. These seem to be fine and they were cheaper than the other brands. - Sdhc - Memory Card - Frustration-fre - 16gb'

Lithium Batteries
I was skeptical at first from reading the other reviews about how these work better than the lithium-ion ones. I was surprised when they came. It was the new Energizer packaging (not the old yellow style as shown in the picture) and work flawlessly in my devices (key fobs, and garage door openers). These are the lithium-ion ones and the model number on the battery is CR2032 and not ECR2032 (which was the reason I was skeptical at first). Very happy and work great! Well worth it at $1.99! Energizer ECR2032 Watch Battery
Be aware: the batteries this vendor is selling are not individually packaged as shown. The ones I received came off a bulk tape roll of batteries, with no expiry dates to indicate they are still good, or anything else to indicate they were even meant for commerical sale. I have not tried them yet - so cannot comment on their actual state/fitness - but it's definetely not as-shown. Why can't vendors submit an actual a picture of what they are selling.....
From motherboards to electronic organizers, the 2032 type battery is the mainstay of the industry, and Energizer makes the most reliable. I have Energizer ECR2032 installed in my Sharp Memo Master, and I never have to worry about losing vital information. This battery lasts long and is highly dependable...An all-around smart buy to keep your electronics in top form.
This was a great value.
It was cheaper than anywhere I could find in the stores like Target or Safeway. No tax too.
Plus since I have Amazon Prime, shipping was free without having to buy over $25 of items.
I was looking for the lithium type of this battery. I goofed and ordered this battery instead. I thought "what the heck" and tried it. This battery has lasted longer than the lithium batteries that came with my "battery-operated" candles and is much cheaper! It doesn't seem to affect the the mechanism. What a nice surprise!
I ordered this battery "sold by Amazon" (not one of its affiliates) and it came as advertised: Individual retail packaging (same as in stores) and fresh. The "use by" date on mine is March 2019. Great!
I bought the Energizer ECR2032 Watch Battery for our bathroom scale, and expected it to last a year or more, like the original battery did. However, it is weakening after only a few months. I bought the battery December 2009, but it had a manufacturing date of July 2009. Could it be that the battery was too old? Is this short lifespan a problem with the battery in general, or these batteries in particular? I don't know.
At this price, though, I cannot complain too much. Free shipping with Amazon Prime makes this an incredibly good deal, so I ordered another one. Hopefully, it will last a bit longer. The packaging this time is different (not the same as the picture shown), but the battery is still old--February 2010.
Nothing much to complain or appretiate. I am using in my bathroom scale. As battery it is doing its job. One important thing, it is not ECR 2032 as the description says. It is CR 2032. For the money and free shipping, great deal !!!
This battery is cheap and of good quality.
I use it for my electronic weighing scale. It was really easy to put in. I'll update you and let you know how long it lasts. As of right now, it's still working (it better be) at 2 months of use and I weigh myself daily.
Buy it from Amazon! I'm not saying it would be hard to find in stores, but it was easier to just search for it online.
I ordered one of these for my old SEGA Saturn as it was the same size and it lasted quite a long time. I always like Energizer as they have great products. These batteries are easy to install on a SEGA Saturn so those of you who need one these are an excellent choice and if you own a Saturn you know this is what the internal memory for save files needs for your save data.'

Honeywell Uv Bulb - allergies, asthma
Needed to do the yearly replacement of the Honeywell UV bulb in my system and HD doesn't carry it anymore. Honeywell's price is crazy as are others on the web. Amazon comes through again with a great price and easy to find. I can only hope that they keep making this part!!
Perfect replacement, 100% fit, construction and quality. Honeywell RUVBULB1/C UV Lamp Replacement Bulb
We installed a UV unit in our home to help keep cold and flu germs at bay. My son has seasonal asthma so anything to keep the air cleaner from environmental airborne particles is great. We used it last season, and found that it did help. I noticed that when one of us got sick the other family members did not so I believe it helped. At least it help me cut down on the lysol I sprayed around the house.
Item works great! I bought the unit from home depot and they do not carry the replacement bulb in the store. I checked online and compared prices with amazon and amazon was cheaper. The bulb is great for keeping bacteria and mold from growing on the coil. - Allergies - Asthma - Uv - Air Purifier'

Noise Canceling Headphones - bose headphones, qc15
Bose QC15 vs. Sennheiser PXC 450 vs. Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7b
Disclosure: I have tried all these on an airplane. I am not an audiophile. Noise Cancelation is the most important attribute to me.
The Carrying Case: All three are quite durable and stiff.
1.) Bose- the smallest, a low profile, room for an Ipod, accessories too.
2.) Sennheiser- Square shape, low profile, however not a lot of room for anything else in case.
3.) Audio Technica- Nice big case if you want to carry extra stuff (Nintendo DS, ipod, etc).
Build Quality:
1.) Sennheiser- you can tell this is built VERY well. Strong plastics, good components, thick cord. Top notch. You feel like you are getting something really high quality.
2.) Audio Technica- Nice solid construction, appears durable.
3.) Bose- If this had a Sanyo logo on the side, I would not have flinched. How can something $300 be so incredibly cheaply made.
Size:
1.) Bose- as far as over the ears go, these are pretty small.
2.) Audio-Technica- mid-sized.
3.) Sennheiser- These are big. No question, but they store flat.
Comfort:
1.) Sennheiser- Very comfortable, will fit almost any size ears. Keep on for hours.
2.) Bose- Also comfortable. I did not experience "highs" discomfort.
3.) Audio-Technica- Perfectly satisfactory. Larger opening than previous AT model.
Sound:
1.) Sennheiser- I actually wore these at home too, simply to hear parts of songs I had never heard before. Astounding. My 10yr old music collection sounded totally NEW.
2.) Audio-Technica- Well balanced, good sound.
3.) Bose- Great sound, but very heavy on the bass. I listen to a lot of rap and pop, so it was mildly annoying. I ultimately had to turn my treble settings up on my ipod to balance the sound.
Features:
1.) Sennheiser- nice cord, push to talk button (temporarily mutes NC and sound which is great for interruptions on airplanes).
2.) Bose/Audio Technica- just the basics. Bose simply an on/off switch.
Price:
1.) Audio Technica- $150 to $225 depending on how you shop.
2.) Sennheiser- $200 to $275
3.) Bose- Hard to find below $300+.
Noise Cancelation:
1.) Bose- No question here, far surpassed the other two. Best Noise Cancelation.
2.) Audio-Technica- Good Noise Cancelation.
3.) Sennheiser- Not sure what happened here. Incredible sound, satisfactory noise cancelation.
Summary:
I ultimately kept the Bose because I was only using these for flying and the Sennheiser's (as much as I loved them) let me down in the Noise Cancelation department. The Sennheiser's had by far the most superior sound, but the Bose Noise Cancelation was night and day. The Bose are made very poorly for a $300+ product, it was disappointing.
Final assessment:
Audio-Technica- best balance of value for money
Sennheiser- Best sound and comfort
Bose- Best Noise Cancelation Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones
Frankly, I think these new Bose headphones put the QC-2 to shame!
I've owned both QC-2 and QC-3 headphones for for a couple years, and their predecessor before that. My home is in a rural area that over time has become increasingly noisy with automobile traffic, chain saws, weed whackers, air travel, boats, etc, so have become a great fan of noise-cancelling headphones, which for me provide respite against all this sonic assault.
When I read the specs of the QC-15, I thought, if these are an improvement over the QC-2, I'll have to try them. This in the face of feeling sheepish about blowing another $300 for what I feared might be a trivial difference in quality.
I needn't have worried. When I turned on the QC-15, it was like shutting off the world. The loud rushing sound emitted by the air filter running 15 feet away became nearly inaudible, the low rumble of distant boat, air, and automobile traffic disappeared altogether. The background hiss generated by the QC-15 is noticeably quieter than the QC-2, and the noise cancellation, as Bose advertises, covers much more of the audio range. My QC-2 headset doesn't do nearly as good job at cancelling the white noise from the air filter as the QC-15, for example.
As for sound quality, the QC-15, to my ear, has better response in the deep bass, from 25-35 hz, and les resonance in the 80-150 hz range. The bass is generally tighter as well. If you're used to the mild boominess of the QC-2, as I was, it might take you a bit of listening to appreciate the difference. In higher frequency ranges, the QC-15 seems comparable to the QC-2. My 64 year-old ears cut off arount 8 khz, so I'd defer to the judgement of younger listeners in this area.
All-in-all, I'm very happy with the improvements manifest in this new version of the Bose headphones and feel that even at $300 they're well worth it.
The only negative criticism I can make so-far is that the headphones emit a rather loud click when you turn them on, compared to the QC-2. This is not a big deal- I just make sure to throw the ON switch before putting the phones on my head.
By the way, many users of Bose (and other) noise-cancelling headphones complain , sometimes bitterly, about he sensation of "ear pressure" when the noise-cancelletion is activated. This is an illusion that arises because actual pressure on un-equalized eardrums (as when climbing or descending in an aircraft) has the effect of reducing the low frequency response of the eardrums. That loss of low-frequency sensitivity is read by the brain as pressure, which, in the case of altitude change, it actually is. Noise cancelling headphones drastically attenuate ambient low frequency sounds, many of which we register unconsciously. The brain interprets this as pressure on the eardrum, even though this is not actually the case. The sensation of pressure produced by noise cancellation is actually an indication of just how much very low frequency background sound we tolerate under normal circumstances. Research indicates that such low-frequency sounds can actually be a source of low-grade anxiety. Hence you may find that these headphones attenuate your nagging anxiety along with the background rumble generated by the pervasive combustion of fossil fuel all around us. - Headphones - Bose Headphones - Bose - Qc15'

Shelf Great Omnimount Componet - home theater wall mount, home theater component shelf
I purchased this item because it was sleek looking and matched the tv bracket that would be hanging above it.
Unfortunately, it is not as pictured. If you look at the picture, it appears as if the shelf part (glass) goes just about to the wall. However, when I opened the box and assembled it, I was quite disappointed to find that there was about 8 inches of space between the shelf bracket and where the shelf mounts to it. This made the shelf stick out away from the wall far too much (for my tight area) and therefore, I couldn't use it.
I didn't return it as it is really heavy and didn't want to deal with it. Besides, I didn't want to pay to ship something that heavy so I just kept it.
I can't believe the picture is so different from the actual item! Just so you know, I had my contractor assemble it in a newly constructed room, so it's not just the opinion of a girl who doesn't know how to assemble a simple shelf.
If projection isn't a concern, then this is otherwise a very nice looking and heavy duty unit.
You have to consider, though, if you are mounting a flat panel tv (as I was), you really don't want a shelf sticking out from underneath it by 8 inches more than what you were expecting. Component Shelf
I surveyed the three glass shelves visible on Amazon, this one, the Vantage Point AXWG-01B, and the OmniMount ECSB. All are $30-40, all are rated for about 30 lbs, all are a bit over a foot square.
I picked this for the wider placement of the screws, which should lead to greater strength, the less obtrusive silver color, and the flexibility of the swiveling mount.
One drives four massive screws into the wall, hopefully into the stud, and assembly is trivial. Maybe 30 lbs is close to the limit if placed way out on the tip, but I'd be comfortable putting 100 lbs in the middle of the shelf.
Looks fine. I'm pleased.
We bought 4 of these to hang our speakers on. The speakers are several years old and are larger and heavier than the newer ones. The shelves are very heavy duty and were easy to hang up, easier with 2 people! They should definitely be attached to a stud as they are fairly heavy and I would not trust them with just wall anchors. They do the trick and look nice as well. Definitely recommend this product.
very attractive set, but not for the smaller sized rooms. these are bigger than they look in the picture. even reading the measurements, after getting them in the house, they are just huge. i have 3 that i honestly dont want , havnt used, and amazon wont refund me for ( will let them go at a discount). if you have a larger sized living room, these are gorgeous and would do more than justice to spice it up. just know what youre buying.
We were looking for a component shelf for our satellite and DVD player that would be child-proof for our 1 year old son. We mounted this up above and to the side of the wall mounted TV, it looks great and we don't have to worry about our son playing with the cords. - Home Theater Wall Mount - Wall Mount - Home Theater Component Shelf - Shelf Great Omnimount Componet'

Battery Backup - clock radios, clock radio
What I like about this alarm clock: doesn't take up much room on my nightstand, the time is preset at the factory so all I had to do was set my time zone, the alarm doesn't jolt you awake - it starts out slow and quieter gradually getting faster and louder, you can choose how long you want your snooze to be, and it is so easy to figure out - I first saw this item at Target and was able to figure it out right there while displayed, quite a few of the others baffled me.
Other info: only one alarm time can be set Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (White)
I kept having a problem with my 10 year olds forgetting to set their alarms at night or forgetting to reset the clock after an electrical 'hiccup'. Anyway, I bought them each one of these clocks so they'd never have to fuss with the time again. Let me say that part works GREAT! However, they both like to fall asleep listening to music which they have on a very low volume. The 'sleep' feature allows them to set the timer to 90/60/30/0 minutes till shut-off. Since they fall asleep to a low volume music, they are not able to set the wake-up alarm to 'radio'. They'd never hear it. So we set it to 'buzzer'. The sound is not a buzzer. It's a very pleasant beeping which is not that loud at all. If you wake easily this should not be a problem. My two DON'T wake easily. I still find myself having to wake them up. My next move... a foghorn blown from the sofa where I sit drinking my morning joe and watching the news. :)
This clock is just perfect in our beach house. Actually, I have now bought 3 of these since they are white with our white furniture. They are small and they aren't so bright at night that it is bothersome. I would recommend these clocks. My daughter even wanted one to take off to college with her because of the size, radio and dim light at night.
After 1.5 years and lots of use, I can say that this radio is a terrific value for the money. It is well designed & attractive with a relatively small footprint. Has a pretty good instruction manual that is easy to follow. Glad I got it. Recommend highly.
I like the idea that you can fall asleep to the radio, have the alarm set on "buzzer", which is actually a gentle beep that gets louder and louder and more insistent till you turn it off. I find I cannot ignore this alarm clock. I couldn't imagine sleeping through it as you can hear it down the hall! (And like many people, who wants to get up from a deep snooze???-no choice with this one.) Never be late or hurried again!
The radio is actually fairly high quality with good sound and quite simple to tune to reception.
I guess an alternative to this effective alarm clock would be a sledge hammer poised to drop on you at the appropriate time. I think I'll take the beeping.................
This is just right for what it is....it works just fine, does what it is supposed to do. Sound is fine for casual back ground music and talk radio. Not a replacement for a Bose system or anything like that, but quiet acceptable at a very reasonable price.
The numbers are large and clear, which is great if you're myopic and trying to figure out what time it is in the middle of the night. The interface is relatively straightforward and has some nice features so you don't waste time noodling around with setting the alarm or tuning a station. The battery back up ROCKS- you don't have to reset it when the power fails. My one complaint is that it's a bit too bright: it glows more than I'd like. For the price, though, it's a good deal.
Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (White) We purchased this clock radio because of it's large time display. Works great. Exceptionally easy to set up. It arrived already programmed for the time. It required only a minor modification to conform to our time zone.
Display is unnecessarily bright and all the dots make verifying that the alarm is set a dubious process. The am radio does not come in very clearly, though not sure if that is a hardware issue. On the plus, it's small and compact and I like that it tells the date. Beep function of alarm is loud enough for me and gets progressively louder which I also appreciate.
I will try to be as specific as possible. Please keep in mind that I have MS and as such , sadly my right eye is 20/400 so legally blind in that eye. I needed a clock which had numbers I can actually see from a distance away.
==Time Illumination: The numbers are tall and glow very slightly green. I can see them from the dresser, which is about 5 feet away.
I can see them enough to be able to tell what time it is (although blurry due to my right eye) The numbers do not glow too brightly. In fact seem just enough. I can also see what time it is with the lights on.
==Radio: I really could care less about the radio but had a quick listen. The sound is OK and what I would expect for a radio of this size and price.
==Alarm : The alarm is a clear tone which gets faster as it goes off. To turn off the alarm one must use a very small dial which is a bit awkward when one is not awake yet. It would do better with a button but it seems that the dial thing is a setting for also having the radio on or whether the alarm is on. Still would prefer a button but whatever. It is easy enough to turn that little dial once I have some light on. The alarm setting also has options for using the radio to wake up. Something I won't use, as I prefer the tone. The tone is not too loud. Just enough to prod me into wakefulness.
==Setting the clock: Seems a bit complicated. One must look up their time zone and set that. It seems alright after that. I needed the directions for setting the alarm time as well. But once set seems fine. I've only had the clock for a few days so don't have a long or large history with it.
Overall: I have given this clock a 4 star. One star off for the awkward alarm dial thing that one must use to turn off the tones once you are awake. - Alarm Clock - Clock Radio - Clock Radios - Sony Alarm Clock Radio'

Digital Camera - cleaner, photography
I have tried so many different cleaning tools, and I always stuck with the basic lens tissues and cleaners. But with today's lenses, they didn't do the job (speed and ease) I was looking for.
The guy at my local (100 year old) camera shop recommended I try one of these.
I have removed all other cleaning items out of my bag except for one "cloth" that I use to clean the outside of my camera and this pen.
Always start with the "brush" to brush away any grit or sand that could possibly scratch the lens. Then lightly, use the other side (felt) to clean away smudges and other marks. It's quick, easy and unbelievably effective!
I use it on my lenses, the LCD of my SLR and even my cell phone.
The first one lasted me a year. I am on my second and recommend it everywhere I go. LensPEN Lens Cleaning System
I read about the LensPen in a photography magazine and decided to give it a try. Trying to keep DSLR filters and camera lenses clean is a chore, especially when cleaning liquids keep leaving some smearing, no matter how careful you try to be. The Lenspen has two types of cleaners in one small package -- a very good dust brush and an excellent cleaning wiper for smudges or dried moisture spots. I learned the hard way that dust can build up over time, especially on the small lenses of point and shoot digital cameras. This makes the pictures you take blury and darker than they should be. Don't be disappointed, if you want to keep those pictures as crisp as when your camera was new, you need to keep a lenspen in your camera bag and use it before every shoot. Two great tools in one tiny package make this job as simple as can be!
I used to use microfiber cloth to wipe off my lenses. I realize now how unnecessarily time-consuming and risky that was. This is a must-have. I am VERY picky about minute smudges on my glass. This "pen" flawlessly polishes them out quickly, and to me, the less time I have to spend rubbing something on my expensive lenses to clean them, the better. I didn't know water drops or smudges could come off so fast without a trace. Great product, and gentle on your glass.
The photo shown is deceptive. The item received is a cheap copy that does not clean as well as my, now four year old, genuine LensPEN. Especially on multi-coated filters, it leaves a smear that is hard to clear. The seller is prompt and the product arrived well packaged. I'm a bit surprised that the LensPEN company doesn't come after these folks for copyright infringement. I wouldn't buy again. It's worth noting that the seller tried to get me to change my review for a $4 refund.
I don't believe this is a genuine LensPen. This one leaves a residue behind whereas I have a LenPen "micro" Pro and it is brilliant. Also I believe all real LensPens have the brand name on the pocket clip. Still, it's a nice brush for $3.
Quick and Easy way to remove smudges and dust from SLR Cameras and Lenses.
Note:
When Amazon was out of stock, I ordered from a 3rd party vendor, Eforcity and received a counterfeit product. It wasn't the same high quality as the original Lens Pen and it went back to that vendor for a refund. I reordered from Amazon and received the correct product. So beware of counterfeits that are not of the same quality. I have used the NIKON version of the Lens Pen and it is identical, except for red vs. yellow plastic with black and of course, the higher price.
This is a great cleaning option to keep handy. I too have stuck with cleaning fluid and tissue, and will continue for thorough cleaning, but having this tool in my bag is very convenient.
The brush is great and the pad seems to remove smudges well.
With the first use I saw excess cleaning solution on the filter, but subsequent usage shows no signs of excess or streaking.
Highly recommended for portable cleaning.
I order a Lenspen lens cleaning system by "LensPEN" from Amazon marketplace(HDE). I received the item and tried it on my lens, believe me my lens looks very bad after using it. I think I got an duplicate product because nowhere it says the manufacturer as "LensPEN". Be careful in choosing the seller.
Some people have complained about getting a knock off but as long as you purchase it directly from Amazon and not a 3rd party seller, be assured that it is the real thing. See the third image for the one I received versus the fake one (second image). It does its job and is no different from all the old Lenspens I have used before. Good price, good product. Any carbon particles can be blown off with a rocket blower or with a similar contraption.
I searched Amazon for "LensPEN LP-1" (the actual product name) and was brought to the page for this item. This is NOT a real LensPEN. It is a cheap Chinese knock-off. If you want the original item, keep searching because this isn't it. I don't know if this item actually works, because I won't risk using it on my very expensive equipment. - Photography - Lens Pen - Cleaner - Lenspen'

Sharpening Stones
Are there "better" sharpeners on the market? Probubly. But as an all around sharpener (I have several styles by several different manufacturers) this little gem is hands down THE BEST! Otherwise I would not have spent a week tracking this one down on the internet after all my local suppliers were "out of stock" or had moved on to more expensive less useful models. The thing folds up and goes in my pocket, it also has a handy hole for a lanyard which my new one is on. It does a great job on my chefs knives, my hunting knife and my serrated kives as well. It's easy for my big fingers to hold on to and steady on the edge of the counter when I am sharpening. I bought an extra one to put away in case this one gets "lost" or I give mine away to a friend. (In case you can't tell I really like it and would buy another one in a minute flat!)
This is a great sharpener it makes knives super sharp but not quite razor sharp it is much better than Smith's Abrasives 2 Step Knife Sharpener, that sharpener gets knives just as sharp as it has the same angles to the ceramic part of the sharpener; but that uses rods which get loose and end up rolling as you draw your knife through it and don't sharpen your knife. Also this is easier to get a blade into the ceramic sharpening part. This also includes a serrated knife sharpener, and this works well but i can't say much for it as it is the first serrated knife sharpener i have ever used.
i recommend pulling the blade through the carbide part 10 times using semi heavy to medium force, the using the ceramic part about 10 times using medium force then lighting up to about as light as you can get by the 10th stroke
skip the carbide part if your knife is already adequately sharp, only use the carbide part if your knife i dull or damaged as it takes off a lot of steel
I have been sharpening my own knives for years using the Gatco system. Normally I wouldn't trust my knives to anything but me and my Gatco. However, I do tend to spend a lot of time out in the woods and having a portable knife sharpener is an important part of my gear.
I was initially very hesitant to try this style of sharpener since the sharpening angle is fixed and not determined by me. Having now used the Smith's sharpener on several of my hunting and camping knives, I am recommending it to all my friends and have even purchased one for my hunting partner.
Great product, and I would buy it even at twice the price.
Good sharpener but with caveats.
Positives: small size, carbide cutters are very effective at removing metal, ease of use (no special techniques)
Negatives: small contact point on the blade (see below, not very stable if much pressure is applied
Due to the small contact point with the blade, pressure is directed onto a very small portion of the blade. This pressure will vary as you slide the blade through the sharpener (either as a result of nicks in the blade or human error/ inability to maintain perfect pressure). As a result you will end up with a slightly wavy edge to knife. Over time this waviness will likely be exaggerated.
I would say this sharpener is okay for a "quick and dirty" field sharpening of a camping or pocket knife, but I would not use it on fine blade steel or good kitchen knives.
Cheers.
Bought this sharpener on a whim while at a local sporting goods store. I badly dulled one of my favorite pocket knives from over use. Impatiently, I tore open the package in my car and went to work. I figured that if the sharpener was bogus, I could just walk right back into the store and return it.
WOW!!! Was I surprised. This thing is amazing! A few passes through the carbide blades followed by a few through the ceramic and I was sold. Brand new, my knife was NEVER this sharp - and it only took a few seconds.
It's compact, light weight, amazingly effective and idiot proof. If you're thinking about getting one of these, don't even hesitate - just buy it.
Still can't believe that this thing is only $10. Best money I've ever spent.
Smith's PP1 Pocket Pal Multi-Functional Knife Sharpener is a worthwhile knife sharpener that is easy to use, compact, very affordable and perfect for field use when a quick sharpening is needed.
The Carbides provide a quick edge setting for knives that are very dull or chipped. The ceramic stones provide a razor sharp finished edge on either standard or serrated edges. The carbide and ceramic stones are replaceable. A fold out, tapered round, diamond coated rod is designed for sharpening serrated as well as standard edges. The Pocket Pal Multi-Functional Knife Sharpener is lightweight, durable, and comes with a lanyard hole. It is small enough to put in your pocket if necessary or in an E.D.C. bag.
I tested this sharpener on numerous knives such as a Spyderco, Ka-Bar Tactical, Leatherman, Air Force Survival knife and multiple Swiss Army Knives. I was very pleased how effective and efficient this sharpener worked. The tapered round, diamond coated rod was very easy to use on serrations. The only problem I encountered with this sharpener is that it does not seem to work as well with thicker blades. It does work but it is a little more difficult and the carbides seem to wear the blade down a bit more which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I would not use this sharpener with a very high quality or expensive knife. I would say this sharpener is perfect for those times when a fast field sharpening of a camping or pocket knife is required.
Overall, I highly recommend this product and I will be purchasing another as a backup.'

Video Production - hd camcorder, 3ccd
I love this camera. If you don't have a lot of experience with prosumer cameras (as in my case), the first look may be a bit intimidating (a friend said, "It looks like you're filming tv news"). Especially as I added a Rode shotgun mike (not sure it does anything other than make the sound louder, but...still checking it out).
You can't rest the camera on your shoulder, but the image stabilizer helps and the grip and buttons are all well designed and easy to reach. I struggled through the manual, but fortunately bought Dan Curran's dvd about the xh-a1 which appears to be almost identical. This was a -huge- help. I can't recommend it enough if you are at all unsure of what you're looking at. He goes through the simplest things (putting the shoulder strap on) to some very technical settings that you can do. The dvd saved me -so much- learning time and also prevented some careless mistakes (like letting sunlight through the viewfinder).
This camera feels like a terrific tool that can do whatever you need and the picture quality--even on Auto--is beautiful. Having the two XLR terminals will make a big difference, too. The versatility and design really meets such a variety of needs--way too much machine/expense for "home video" (it's not the kind of camera people forget is pointing at them), but great if you want to shoot training films, web videos, independent films.
Technology has changed so much in the 20 years since I was in film school--and it's still hard for me to believe that such a great camera, capable of such a quality product, is available for under $4000.
Very impressed. Highly recommended. Canon XH-A1S 3CCD HDV High Definition Professional Camcorder with 20x HD Video Zoom Lens III
Canon XH-A1S 3CCD HDV High Definition Professional Camcorder with 20x HD Video Zoom Lens III
What can I say except this camera is the only one that offers everything you need in this price range. What really sets it apart is the two xlr inputs on the side allowing two microphones to capture sound, and it switchable between external and internal mics, or use both simultaneously. No other camera offers this. Get a lens filter kit and the wide angle and telephoto adapters and you're ready to create anything you can imagine.
I recently filmed a music festival using this camera for long shots, close-ups, cutaways, and static shots, everything looks amazing. A tip for the novice to high-def recording- keeping the lens clean and checking it frequently is a must. The tiniest speck of dust looks huge on playback.
I've used it mostly on automatic setting so far as the the music festival was happening only days after receiving this camera but the little bit I've played around on manual setting promises unparalleled versatility, i'm very excited.
This camera is not for the novice by any means because once you step out of the auto everything mode it can be quite complicated.
Now that being said if it wasn't for all the manual settings and adjustments I would not want it anyway.
I have a Canon XLH1 and this camera makes the perfect workmate for it.
The picture quality is virtually the same so for a two camera shoot it's great.
Although it's about half of the weight of it's big brother the XLH1 it's still a little hard to hold steady since you can't rest it on your shoulder but the image stabilization is very helpful.
Also the auto focus is very fast and really comes in handy when you have to run and gun so to speak.
All in all this is a great camera with a awesome picture and I simply love it.
I run and own one of Florida's most reputable paranormal teams "Team Phenomenon | Paranormal Bad Boys TV" and we need to high quality footage for our films. I looked at many other cameras but the XHA1s was by far the clearest in resolution. This camera is a snap to work with and the overall quality makes it worth the money. This is one of our main cameras we use for production of our films, videos and documentaries and if I could I would buy a second in a heart beat as backup. The camera battery life is exceptionally good and the features give your video that clear HD eye candy you want. This is the independent film makers top choice of cameras and I can get why, I simply call it an Orgasm in a box. because that is how you feel when you first get it in the mail.
My only two cons is that the front microphone head is kinda wobbly and it doesn't shoot to hard drive, Digitizing tapes can put extra stress on the heads. An hour long HDV tape equals to 12GB of hard drive storage so make sure you have an extra 1.5TB of external HD backup for your projects and never overwrite the original tapes. I buy my HDV tapes from Walmart which are 6 for $20 and work beautifully.

This Canon cam has been a great investment to my company. It was easy to learn, fast to set up, and a pleasure to use; even when all the settings are on manual. All of the important controls are programmable hard buttons. Focus, Aperture, and zoom are all on the lens barrel for easy access. The picture is clear and the computer interface to the camera is a breeze. This is a real winner.
I love this camcorder. I'm not particularly tech-savvy or a 'pro' (working on it) but after reading through the manual I am now able to do pretty much everything I want. The quality of the image is great, as is the price when you compare it to other HD camcorders available. It arrived really fast too.
As others have noted, this camera is not for the casual videographer or the faint of heart. But, if you're looking for a superb prosumer camcorder, this is it. Packed with features, a great value for the price, with awesome video quality. Highly recommended. - Camcorder - Hd Camcorder - 3ccd - 1080i'

Stove Accessories - coleman, portable grill
Everybody who uses a portable grill on a regular basis needs this product not only are you not changing bottles frequently but a 20lb tank lasts for many cooking times, but most important after the purchase of the 20lb tank it's a money saver since it cost about half the price to fill the tank rather then buying 20- 1lb. bottles and who does,nt want to save money. Century 8-Foot Hose with Type 1 Coupling
The model of our Coleman Road Trip propane grill allow it to be connected via a coupling hose directly to the quick-release fitting on our motor home LP tank. The information provided in the online advertisement enabled me to order this with comfort that it was exactly what was needed. It works perfectly, and is made quite well. Good value for the money.
Why did it take so long for this type of thing to come on the market? It's so nice (and environmentally friendly) not to have to worry about all of those little cans of propane. We just came back from a week-long camping trip and it was the most useful piece of new equipment we bought.
I looked and looked for propane hose adaptor for my coleman grill. Everywhere I looked thr price was outrageous. So I decided to try [...]. I found exacty what I was looking for, it works perfectly and the price was very reanoable. Thank you very much!!!!
We used this hose on our Roadmate grill about 12 times over the past year. It worked just fine but then it just quit passing gas. Took it to a local gas shop and they say it is not fixable, must replace the end fittings due to corroded safety device or buy a new one. using it 12 times is not a good value..
Note of caution for other owners. Make sure to always bring along a portable tank so you will be able to continue cooking when the hose fails..
we purchased this hose for our ogrill. It worked great for 3 times. On the fourth try it would n;t work at all. We switched propane tanks to be sure it wasn't that. We then hooked up a portable tank directly to the Ogrill and it worked perfectly.
I got tired of using those small propane bottles for my Weber Go-Anywhere gas grill. They were expensive and didn't last as long. I had spare 20lb propane tanks that were just lying around so I bought this adapter. The fit and quality is really good and it just cost a dollar or two more than the Charbroil version. I'm a sucker for things made in the USA so this was an obvious choice. The one from Charbroil was cheap feeling, particularly the plastic knob. - Coleman - Portable Grill - Stove Accessories - Accessories'

Pocket Wizard - audio, adapters
You NEED to know - volume affected by other headphones!
This is a glaring omission from the product description.
>>> One person turns their headphones down, ALL other headphone volumes go UP!
>>> Unplug one headphone, the others go UP
>>> Turn up the volume of one of the headphones - others GO DOWN.
>>> Say you have your computer audio output split into headphones and a home stereo. Turn your headphones down, the home stereo goes UP - and vice versa.
Things get really complicated quick the more number of devices you plug in. This isn't the fault of the manufacturer, it is inherent in its passive design. BUT is should be stated clearly so you know before purchase.
I am imagining fights in the backseat of the car when someone turns their volume UP/DOWN to annoy everyone else! Belkin Rockstar Multi Headphone Splitter
This is one nifty product. I had bought y-splitters in the past to split stereo signals. But when I came across this item in Amazon, I decided to give it a try. It is so convenient and the quality is superb. Don't bother running to the RadioShack to buy a y-splitter, get this Belkin splitter instead if you ever is in need of routing your stereo signal to multiple speaker systems.
ps. I wish they make it in black color also. All the stereo cables most people use are black. So a black splitter will blend well with the rest of the cables.
I got my splitter a month ago (or was it a few weeks?) and used it for my speakers and headphones on my Macbook Pro.
The volume doesn't necessarily die out when I plug in and turn on multiple headphones, but I can hear a slight drop in volume (but stereo is still intact), like I put a thin cloth between my ears and my headphone. If I plug in my speakers (which are amplified) there's no drop. So only the un-amplified devices will cause a volume drop (unless my outdated, 14-year old harman/kardon tweeters are somehow working better).
If anyone's interested, the volume drop is because the splitter is taking a single signal and distributing it to many devices in parallel. Since this is unamplified, the current will split unevenly across the devices (because each device has different circuitry and wiring). If you don't want a volume drop, get something like the Upbeat Audio T613-BMC Boostaroo 3 Channel Amplifier & Splitter for an amplified splitter.
Another thing the description doesn't mention is the included 25-inch male to male 3.5mm cable. It lets you split an audio source, and if you plug in both of the male cables to separate sources, you can split TWO signals!
I use a splitter to record my bass guitar by splitting the signal out of my TASCAM trainer into headphones and a digital recorder. I started with a generic splitter which became loose and stopped making reliable connections. I moved up to a Monster splitter which developed the same problem. I decided to try this splitter since I figured I would have three new connectors if it starts to fail. Well, so far so good. This splitter has the most solid connections I have ever felt. I have been using it almost every day for over a month and it feels as solid today as when I got it. I think I have a winner here; and if I don't, I still have three more connectors!
There should be nothing really fancy to write about this connector, since it's just what you see in the picture.
I must anyway leave this note to say that this connector, besides being useful it's also really cool looking, and sometime that is important too: makes you feel cool :-)
This is a simple connector: there is no "active" parts, so if you plug more devices, it will affect volume.
I personally used this adapter to plug one speaker set to 3 different sources (PC, Wii, DVD player) and I find that when the PC is on, the sound has a lower volume, but I just turn up the volume on the speakers, and have no problems with it.
Important note: inside the package there is also a green color cable, male to male stereo 3.5mm jack connector (~1.5ft), that is not mentioned in the product description, but it's useful to know.
This product is very helpful. Before, I only had one input on my computer and now I have 5 so that I can use both of my speakers at the same time. Very good product and I am very happy with the purchase. The included male to male cord is a big help as well.
After reading reviews of several other splitters, I chose this Belkin Rockstar because I didn't see any reviews that mentioned poor volume when multiple devices are plugged in.
With 3 cables plugged in (even though they aren't all operating at the same time), the volume is so low that it is almost silent. Maybe it was my mistake for believing that this splitter wouldn't be like the other ones, which all had reviewers comment on volume loss. It isn't different.
To get full volume, I have to unplug the other devices. Kind of pointless. - Headphone Accessories - Audio - Adapters - Headphone Splitter'
