Adjustable Wrench - wrenches, socket
This tool is a great idea, but the B&D version isn't a great tool.
The problem is that it attempts to fit both SAE and metric sizes. While there are a few sizes that are very close (19mm and 3/4" are within 1%, 16mm is about 5/8"), most of the sizes are not. That means this wrench is sloppy on almost every fastener. The looseness combined with the flat six point sides puts pressure on just the tips, leading to rounded nuts and bolt heads.
I still see the potential of this design. Craftsman has individual tools for metric and SAE, and I've put the metric one on my Christmas list to see if that version lives up to my hopes. Black & Decker MSW100 Ready Wrench
In my home shop, I have a variety of power tools that require height and tension adjustments and use machine bolts and screws for that purpose. I like a clutter free shop and sometimes the need to have a ratchet and a handful of sockets out is a bit annoying, this item helps alleviate that.
As advertised and already listed, this wrench has 16 of the most frequent socket sizes installed on one hand tool. I can dial the socket size I need and not have to frequently pull out a socket set. I do work on my lawnmower and I also take apart, store, and pull back out furniture items that use nuts and bolts also. Would I say that this one tool would replace a mechanic's tool set? No, probably not. But it does make life a little easier for me. If I need to perform any car repair, I do have my ratchet sets. If I am under the car and in difficult spots under the hood, a ratchet still is the best choice. It may ,however, be quite useful as a breaker bar.
Special items to note -
1. The sockets are 6 point and not the cheaper 12 point versions. For those that are unfamiliar with the difference, professionals will use 6 point sockets because they have less of a tendency to round over bolts. 12 point sockets can do a lot of damage to a bolt when applied with too much torque. I am pleased they went with the higher end sockets.
2. This tool, in most situations, will reduce the need for deep sockets and will reduce the amount of times you need to use a wrench instead of a socket. Sometimes bolts are long and when you attempt to use a socket, the socket is too short to fit over the bolt. I run into this when assembling and disassembling my kitchen table. I have to use a wrench because the socket bottoms out on the bolt before touching the nut. The way this is designed, the bolt (most times) could slide through the socket on the opposite side, allowing the socket to grip the nut firmly.
3. Only complaint of this tool (and not really a large one) is that the 45 and 90 degree stops for the sockets do not lock. There is a stop for the angles, but not a full locking mechanism. During high torque situations, this might make for more tricky situations. This is where the choice of using 6 point, rather than 12 point sockets is a large factor.
I bought this as a gift for my father and one for myself. We both love this tool. It does not replace a large socket set completely, but it does replace 90% of the socket use I have. The sizes they have on this are by far the most commonly used sizes. The build on the items seems very high quality as well. It can be a bit tough in really tight places where racheting is important, but overall for most applications this does the trick. It is nice to not have to search my sockets for the right size. It is all in one here, so no chance of losing them. A great idea from Black and Decker!
I love the idea of having a wrench with all of the sizes on it. I don't normally go for gimmicks but it's not a bad idea for general repairs just don't throw away your socket set.
I was given this Black and Decker as a gift. I was skeptical about the sockets handling both metric and SAE sizes. I was correct in my fears, the wrench doesn't grab the nuts as tight as they should and you get a lot of rounding off and the inset metric size doesn't get complete hold of the nuts and the same thing happens. My question is is why didn't they make two different wrenches, one for SAE and one for metric? I looked online to find out if somebody did make what I wanted and found out a company called Thorson makes them. I also found Craftsman also makes them buy I think they are identical but Craftsman adds it's name and then charges you more. So I bought the Thorsons and now I am happy. They are what I would have wanted in the first place.
You get what you pay for.
Update: I found the set of Thorson wrenches at Costco for only $17. I paid $30.
Due to the design and size, this wrench does not work in about 65% of the situations tried. Also the standard/metric use for each socket head is no good. If either the metric or standard sizes fit well and tight, then the opposite on the same socket head does not. Very poor product.
I do believe this is a good idea, however this particular wrench is very poorly made. It is very sloppy when you apply it to the nut and it never fits tight. Seems like just another gimmicky tool from B&D. Unfortunately I'm returning mine and will stick to the real wrenches in my tool box.
I originally purchased this Black & Decker MSW100 Ready Wrench at Menards for $29.00 plus tax. I liked this wrench so much I am buying 3 other wrenches at amazon as Christmas gifts. The wrench is clearly marked in red for inches on one side and blue for metric on the other side. It is a solid tool, a little under 10 inches in length. It is a handy tool and I recommend it for any toolbox. - Wrenches - Socket - Tools - Adjustable Wrench'

Manual Pencil Sharpeners - old school, school supplies
After having enough of battery-eating weak electric models, we decided to do it "old school." I have fond memories of those sturdy, satisfying wall-mounted manual pencil sharpeners from elementary school. This model would be decent if it were manufactured properly...(but isn't that true of sooooo many things?) Okay, here's my assessment: Either one of the steel receptacle centering fins was honed at an incorrect angle or one of the twin barrel cutters was set at the wrong angle, or both.
When you were in grade school did you ever place way too much downward angular pressure on your pencil as you were sharpening it? If you ever did, then you probably also remember returning to your desk and discovering half the "lead" still covered by the wood barrel of the pencil. Employing a writing instrument prepared in such a way is like scraping and scratching with a pointy stick, rather than the smooth unfettered flow of freshly revealed graphite. I swear, what happened to product testing or, for that matter, product quality?
Fast forward to present day: No, I did not place too much angular pressure on the barrel of my present-day pencil...the afore-described result was from gingerly CENTERING the pencil in the sharpener before turning the crank. (I think I got the "centering" thing down to a science after 12 years of daily manual pencil sharpening.) And, yes, I tried many, many pencils to make sure it wasn't just a poorly manufactured pencil. I wanted soooo badly for this product to work, but it just wasn't to be :-(
It's shocking. And yet, disturbingly, I *somehow* have gradually come to expect such disappointment from my purchases over the past couple of decades.
I would pay *4* times as much money for a 100% American-made quality product...if I could *find* a 100% American-made quality product. Come on America, let's get on (or in this case, off) the "stick" and get the "lead" out! X-Acto Model KS Table- or Wall-Mount Pencil Sharpener (1031)
A great sharpener, I have two girls in my house (ages 7 and 13) and they have broke nearly a dozen plastic and various electric models. This sharpener is very heavy duty and solidly built. I think it would stand up to a class room full of kids. I plan on buying one for my shop.
I've decided to replace this pencil sharpener because it has been destroying too many pencils. I have the same problem so many reviewers have had - namely it tends to sharpen only one side of the pencil when it doesn't chew right through them. In the end, I find myself having to remove the wood on the unsharpened side by hand, all too often breaking the lead in the process. We'd have -much- better luck with a cheap 50 cent sharpener, or a kitchen knife, or a machete...blender...
I thought this was going to be a good sharpener, but it doesnt matter what pencil I use, it just does not sharpen well at all. I'm about to pitch it in the trash. Only one side of the pencil sharpens while the wood remains on the other half, making it impossible to write with. It's junk.
As usual X-Acto has somehow managed to de-evolve the pencil sharpener. My first experience with X-Acto was with a simple electric sharpener. The quick convenience I had taken for granted with my Boston 19 was not possible with my new five-minute-per-pencil X-Acto. My next experience was with the $130 + "heavy duty" X-Acto in the department center in my school. Well before the end of the year it was simply an impressive looking paper weight. Finally, this rotary model was installed in my classroom. Basically, it ate every pencil at an impossible-to-write with angle. I tried out three others in neighboring classrooms. I did not have the same problem; rather, the others were worse: noisy, grinding pencil crushers that no student would use. My only option is to stock up on the small plastic manual sharpeners that frequently break but at least manage to sharpen a couple of pencils before they bite the dust. That's much more than I can say for my X-Actos.
Finding a pencil sharpener in my home was impossible. We have/had dozens of the small plastic hand held sharpeners come and go. Never to be found when I actually needed one. So I decided that mounting a hand-cranked sharpener to a fixed point would solve one of my life's many problems. I always welcome a quick easy way to eliminate a chronic hassle.
Anyway, I wanted the same model that I commonly found in my grammar school classrooms. My parents also had one mounted in their garage while I was a kid. Those things were built like Army tanks. Never seemed to wear out. Unfortunately, it appears the quality of that model, while still available, is now lacking in quality.
So after searching Amazon, it would seem this X-acto model is the best hand-cranked sharpener available. Easily mounts to any wooden surface with the included wood screws. Performs great. After I mounted it, I grabbed 10-12 new pencils and "got crankin". Each pencil was quickly sharpened to a perfect point. Quality seems solid with the all steel construction. No downsides could be found in this product. On top of being a well-regarded product, its also one of the cheaper models on the market. Best of both worlds. - Manual Pencil Sharpeners - School Supplies - Pencil Sharpener - Old School'

Yoga Towel
My wife and I avidly practice Bikram yoga, sometimes as often as 6 classes a week. We started our practice using bath towels and quickly moved to yoga towels for the added slip-free design, sweat-wicking and fast drying composition of the Gaiam towels.
Briefly, my PROS and CONS;
PROS
- Once slightly damp provide a very slip-free surface
- bunches only slightly, I usually have no issues in Bikram but my towel moves a bit during active Vinyasa sessions.
- Wash them and hang to dry, they are often completely dry in a few hours
- Hold up fairly well after washing (which you need to do after every class)
CONS
- We now have purchased 6 of these towels since we started in January 2011. We needed at least 4 (2 towels each) to rotate every other day or for when we do double classes on weekends.
- After 3 months the towels pick up a mildew smell that is impossible to remove. I have washed with baking soda, vinegar, hung out in the sun, tossed the older ones in a dryer, but the smell is horrible.
-After 3 months of regular use and maybe 30-40 washings, I've had to throw out 2 of the towels.
I am going to try the Yogitoes towel that is a little more expensive, to see if the towels hold up a little longer. I will update this review once I have tried the other brand. Gaiam Thirsty Yoga Towel, Dark Blue
I own two of these yoga towels, and I have found them to be durable, highly absorbent, and an overall great value. I can't believe people actually spend 2-3 times as much on other brands! I practice yoga 5-6 times per week, so I need a towel that will stand up to lots of use and washing. This is a perfectly good towel that fulfils my needs: a non-slip, absorbent surface that completely covers my yoga mat. I have used this towel for both Bikram-style hot yoga classes as well as Vinyasa flow classes, and it works well for both. It's lightweight and dries really quickly too. This towel doesn't shrink or fade either, even after dozens of washings, unlike the shrunken Yogitoes towels I see others using in my yoga classes. I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4, but it sometimes doesn't stay put perfectly - I've found that I may have to straighten it once during an especially active flowing class. Overall, I'm satisfied with this yoga towel, and I see no need to waste money on the pricier brands.
I am brand new to yoga and enrolled in a hot yoga class. I learned that I should pick a mat that is not slippery or sleak - so I picked an Atlus mat which has small grips (so the towel does not slip). I can easily spin around on the towel and it does not bunch up. The only challenge is in the warrior pose; the wider the feet, you have to really dig your heels in so that you don't slip - but any towel without grips would have the same issue. The towel dries quickly and washes up nicely.
I have two of these towels and do Bikram 5-7 days a week. It works as well as a more expensive yoga towel. I wash it after each class and since I rotate towels, I really didn't want to pay the money for more expensive towels. I've used mine for six months and it smells clean after I wash it and lay it out to dry. I put it outside as much as possible. I sweat like a river and it does a good job. Ok so once in awhile it does a minor bunch, but a quick flick of my toe and it is fine. I don't find that it slips at all, but maybe that is more muscle use than trying to push into the towel.
I purchased this mat to use in a hot yoga class and I was disappointed with how it worked. While the texture was nice and washes well, it did not stay put during my yoga practice and i had to keep straightening it out. It would recommend getting a mat towel with grip on the bottom if you are doing a faster paced practice.
Towel is great for my hot yoga class. Exactly what I needed to keep me from soaking my mat. It is not completely slid free, however...soemtimes I have to move it out of the way for real deep leg poses.
Considering the price, this towel isn't too bad. But if you do hotyoga you Will slip on it. It helps to splash water on it before you practice. And I still like the towel. The color is nice, and it deals easily with a lot of water/sweat.
I just love this towel. Small profile, and soaks up a ton. Much more comfortable than using a beach towel or a bath towel. Not sure why some reviews are saying it bunches up. I have not experienced excessive movement. And besides, you move around a bit with Bikram....even a normal towel can move around a bit. This towel seems to stay where I put it. Don't spend a ton of $$ on a different towel. This one is perfect!'

Swiffer Max Cloth Refills
I have been using the Max Swiffer for several years and love it. The only problem is finding the refills. I finally ordered online even though more expensive and ordered six boxes so I won't run out for awhile. The swiffer is wide and picks up animal hair beautifully along with the dust we get here in Arizona. I have Travertine floors and can't use most things so this is a life saver. Swiffer Max Refill Cloths for Swiffer/Max Sweeper, 16/Box, 6 Boxes/Carton (PAG37109CT)
I have searched most stores around here for the swiffer max and came up
with 0. so I ordered them on line. It was easy! I tried to go through
the online sales and found one that was a lot less expensive and ordered
4 boxes so that I won't run out for a while. They arrived at the house
in just a few days and I am delighted. No more running around and I probably saved money on the order.'

Atv Winches - superwinch, winch
I looked around for an economical winch that I could buy to load my ATV into the back of my F150 pick-up truck. It's just too dangerous driving it up the ramps yourself. I selected the Grip On winch because it was only one of a few that had a wireless remote control and a handle bar rocker switch. I attached an eye bolt to the bed of my pick-up, I then attach the winch cable to the eye bolt, and then stand back a few feet and watch the winch do all the work! The installation went smoothly and wiring was a snap to install. I've only had it a couple of months now, but the people at Sportsmen's Den who sells the winch said they stand behind everything they sell, 100%. I've also recommended this product to my friends, and would also recommend this to anyone interested in an ecomonical winch. Grip 2500 lb Electric ATV Winch
I AM VERY PLEASED THAT I WAS URGED TO CONTACT AMAZON BY A SHERIFF BUDDY OF MINE ON THIS HUNT FOR A ( GRIP ) BOAT WINCH. I HAD BEEN LOOKING ON EVERY SIGHT AND NONE HAD ALL THE INFORMATION THAT I WANTED AND THE PRICE, MOST HAD WINCHES THAT BOAST "STRONG" AND FRANKLY WHEN THEY ARRIVED WERE "WEAK". I KNOWN A GREAT PRODUCT AND HAVING THE ( GRIP BRAND )MANY YEARS AGO I KNEW WHAT I WANTED. THE 28770 WILL NOT ONLY TAKE MY MANTA RAY BOAT TO THE HEIGHTS OF THE LIFT, BUT IT WILL HELP ME MAINTAIN OUR CUB CADET 4X4 AND IT'S 1800# THANK FOR HAVING A REAL INFORMATIVE SALES "RECIE" PERSON IN CUSTOMER SERVICE, - Atv Winch - Superwinch - Winch - Atv Winches'

Picture Hanging Materials - hanger, hooks
I was skeptical these 3M poster strips could hold a 60x40 inch poster but they really worked! I did probably overkill it though and used more than suggested but with such a large poster I wanted to make sure it didn't bow in the middle or sag.
I used 4 rows of 6 strips along the top, bottom and two rows in the middle. And so far so good. Looks to be on the wall quite well and I feel confident it'll stay on the wall until I decide to take it down. I can't wait to try these on other things too. I bought several packages of different sizes and even checked out the video on the manufacturer's website. Interesting concept to never hang anything with nails again. Makes redecorating easier and friendlier to your walls too. And living in earthquake country, it just might stay on the wall better too. But given that, I'll be using extra to make sure!
Removing the strips is as easy as it says too. Just pull on the tab and it comes right off. I put one of the strips in the wrong spot on the poster and was easily able to remove it without damaging the paper. Just be aware that one side is meant to be stuck to the wall and the other to paper. It's marked with red lettering on one side and black on the other so just be sure to get it right and you'll be fine.
Like I said, I was skeptical but I'm sold on these 3M Poster Strips. I'll definitely buy more and intend to use them on everything from this point forward!
Final suggestion -- be sure to buy the value packs. It's more cost effective. 3M Command Poster Adhesive Strip Value Pack
There are 48 little stickers in this package. Each sticker has about 1/2"x1" sticky surface. They work just like the Command stickers that have hooks, but no hook - you stick it directly to your poster, then the other side to the wall. Be sure you follow the directions and apply pressure for 30 seconds when you mount your posters. After fussing with double-sided foam stickers, and having things fall off the painted cinder-block walls on a regular basis, these seem to be working quite well. Nothing has fallen down yet!
I've had the same experience as the other users with this product. I've used and trusted 3M products for most of my life, and was always curious about the mounting strips. I was leery that they would work as well as people say.
But after mounting several very large, heavy posters (non-framed of course), I'm a believer. The strips went on easily. We followed the instructions and applied pressure in the correct spots for the amount of time suggested, and the posters are nice and solid on the wall. I have no doubt they'll stay up for a long, long time.
I had to test the removability, though, since that's one of the major features of these strips. On one of the posters after a few days, I removed a strip following the instructions, and darned if it didn't come off just as advertised! Go 3M!
If you have posters and want to make sure you don't damage your walls, these strips are definitely the way to go!
These tiny adhesive strips work pretty damn well. I'm not entirely sure as to how much weight they can effectively hold, but I have been using them for posters and small, light, white erase boards. They don't leave a mark upon removal, and stick quite well. Also, a package of these contains a crap-ton of strips.
I'm highly disappointed in this product. I have used other command products before with out issue. I bought this in September and have tried it twice, following the instructions exactly. The first time the picture fell. It didn't even last 30 secs on the wall. The second time I doubled the number of strips. This time the picture stayed up for less than 5 mins.
I used this product on three large posters and applied them directly to vinyl walls. Instructions say to use rubbing alcohol to clean the wall before applying the poster, so I did that. The posters have been on the walls for a month - no problems.
I'm a big fan of 3M Command products. And while this product is vastly superior to the thumbtack or sticky putty methods of mounting, I can't recommend this for any "valued" artwork/posters. During removal, I've torn or wrinkled the corners of posters while pulling that tab---even with applying enough pressure against the print.
I print a lot of high quality glossy photos of bands to decorate my walls with and these poster strips work perfect. They stay on really good (better than anything else I could buy) and they remove very easily unlike most other means of hanging stuff up. There also great for posters. I used 12 on my two big posters and they hold great. What's really amazing is how many strips you get at such a low price. I ended up running out thanks to all the photos I've been hanging up, so I ordered two more of these (almost 100 strips) for a very cheap price.
Currently using this in dorms.
since in the dorms you pay for any damages to the wall, these are great because it hasnt damaged the wall yet!
make sure you pull the strip about six inches down when removing. follow the instructions and you shouldnt have any damage.
cheaper posters will eventually wear thin from this so be careful. - Picture - Picture Hanging Materials - Hanger - Hooks'
