Smoke Detector - photoelectric, kidde

I purchased 4 Kidde PI9000 Dual mode detectors to replace working, but old detectors in our home. One failed within a month and after returning to Kidde at my expense they replaced it. Took at least 4 weeks to get the replacement. A few months later another failed, again I sent it back and received a replacement. Now at less than 2 years, two more have failed. I bought 4, I've had 4 failures, and I have two working at the moment.

I can't see how this failure rate is acceptable by any standard. Kidde PI9010 Battery-Operated Dual Ionization and Photoelectric Sensor Smoke Alarm

Even though there are many, many types of smoke detectors available, there really isn't much choice. Literature on fire safety says to get one that has both the ionization feature and the photoelectric feature. You see many that only have one feature or they combine it with a carbon monoxide detector. Get a smoke detector that focuses on its job. Get a separate carbon monoxide detector and locate it down at your level instead of high on a ceiling.

The alarm is nice and loud, which I need. I wish it could wirelessly activate the other alarms when it goes off. You have to remove the smoke detector to change the battery, but that is very easy to do.

Don't forget to mark on your long term calendar to replace it in 8-10 years. The ionization feature may not work after that.

I purchased several of these alarms for use in our home's bedrooms. Today, I came home to the sound of a smoke alarm going off. In our bedroom.

I rushed upstairs, but all seemed to be well. The alarm was continuous, just like an actual smoke alarm, rather than a low battery signal, which has a longer pause between beeps. I changed the battery, and the result was the same. It didn't matter that there wasn't -- thankfully -- so much as a spark or whiff of smoke in sight (or smell.) I took an identical alarm out of another room and placed it in our room. No alarm. And, yes, the self-test worked.

Looks like I'll have to buy another. I am only glad that the alarm didn't go off at, say, three am. I can only wonder if the unit would have worked in the event of an actual fire, as I have no way of diagnosing the cause of its malfunction. Needless to say, I'm strongly considering finding a comparable unit from another manufacturer.

Two of Three units have not worked since purchase. Have tried calling Kidde multiple times. Once got hung up on by rep (after waiting 11 minutes on hold to be connected to a rep) because I asked where to find information she was asking for on product. I called again and (after waiting 14 minutes on hold to be connected to a rep)got immediate hang up by customer service without being able to talk to a rep.

I had purchased the 'First Alert' dual sensor alarm (with remote feature), and it gave me nothing but false alarms, some in the middle of the night! Not so with the Kidde. Plus getting to and installing the 9V battery was much much easier on the Kidde than on the unintuitive 'First Alert'. This Kidde dual sensor alarm is the way to go if you want simplicity, ease of use, and peace of mind. I think I am going to purchase a few more now that I know this model works flawlessly.

I bought 3 of this in September 2008, and as of now, July 2010, 2 out of them have already died within two years. They died in the same way: just beep for nothing and would not stop. If you push "HUSH" button, then they silence for 10 minutes and resume beeping for nothing. This is crap, expensive crap!

I did a lot of research before buying this alarm. I ended up buying two this model and the Kidde 900-0102 both are dual sensor. I placed this model in the basement and the other alarm upstairs because it has a voice alarm that I liked. Each unit installs in a snap!

I purchased three Kidde PI9000 smoke alarms and one failed straight out of the box. I put the battery in and attempted to test the alarm. The test failed. I took the battery out and noticed it was hot and could smell that the alarm was "cooked." I am sure it is a fine smoke alarm, but am posting this to give folks an idea of the failure rates.

I have created a 9 volt power supply for my main residence and a vacation home, used to power dual sensor smoke alarms, that are tied into my security systems. First Alert sensors at the vacation home repeatedly false alarmed. I replaced the two there with pi9000 Kiddes. They have worked fine for well over a year. However, not so "lucky" here at main home. I bought 4 to replace 10+ old dual sensor First Alerts. One only is working fine so far ( 1 week). But the other three are failing. They will, after several hours on the 9 volt supply, suddenly drop the voltage in the system, and an ammeter shows they are pulling over 150 ma! This must be what is happening to others folks who are reporting failures. There is some component in these units, not all of them, that is failing. Now what do I do? When not failing, these are the best dual sensor units on the market, but how many do I have to buy before getting the ones I need?!! - Ionization - Photoelectric - Smoke Alarms - Kidde'

Moisturizer - coconut, cooking

I am a cancer survivor, and I purchased the Hemp Oil for the high quality and incredible omega benefits of the product. The shipment was very quick and I love the taste. Sometimes I take a spoonful without mixing it into any food and it is very tasty. It has a nutty aftertaste, and is lighter than most oils in your cabinet.

I am already feeling the benefits as I have colon cancer, and the Hemp oil has helped regulate my system and kept my energy levels up.

Thanks again for a great product and great service. Nutiva - Hempseed Oil - Organic Cold Pr, 16 fl oz liquid

If you want a very nutritious oil for your cooking and even!!! facial and body oil needs, this is the one to have! (besides Coconut oil, of course). I use them both ways and the results are simply amazing: no more wrinkles, and never hungry! It goes into everything raw, like salads and even smoothies made of veggies. I don't use it for(heat) cooking, it's too precious for that. Use olive oil instead.

It's color is deep green, and when you pour some of it into your palm, you can literally see it's smooth and beautiful texture! It has a light nutty taste, and I cannot stress enough how big the health benefits are: I never feel hungry, I don't gain weight! and I have a smooth face at soon 60 years of youth! Don't believe anybody who sells you a non-fat diet! Our body NEEDS fats to be healthy, and the right fats don't make you fat, to the contrary: you have energy, stamina and healthy body cells! This is another item I will continue to use.

I just have one wish: I want to see it on the "subscribe and save" list of items, so that I won't have to remember when to order a fresh batch!

I take a daily tea spoon of hemp oil and let me tell you, this thing killed my toe nail fungus in about 3 weeks and also cured my light arthritis on my hands. I know this hemp oil has trace amounts of THC and im sure that's what helped me with my ailments. I would highly recommend this product and i will order again.

I suffer from Rosacea, which for me, is basically a bumpy rash on my face that burns and itches simultaneously (and looks hideous). I heard that Hemp Oil could help, and for the price was willing to try anything. What I found was astonishing! It was instantly soothing and much of the rash cleared up overnight. It's also a light, non-greasy moisturizer that doesn't make the rest of my skin break out. I have spent hundreds of dollars on prescriptions that did nothing but make my face burn and itch more and in months could not do what this stuff did in days. My rosacea is not completely gone. I still have flare ups, but it is under the best control it has ever been. I am not a doctor and have no idea why this works, but in my opinion its a miracle. Plus, it makes a darned tasty salad dressing too. What other product can do that?

By far the best tasting EFA product I've tried. I use it straight, in salads and uncooked sauces and as an additive in my massage oil. It absorbs cleanly into the skin and leaves a silky texture. Good price too. Love it!

This is the irst bottle of hempseed oil I ever purchased after hearing about the health benefits of it on tv. It seems like a good price for the amount you get and the taste of this oil is delicious. Something I really like about this Nutiva hempseed oil is the bottle they send it in. Its basically spill proof. You can turn the bottle upside down, hold it over a spoon, and nothing will come out until you squeeze the bottle. You have incredibly fine control over the amount you wish to get out of the bottle. After having just purchased a bottle of flax seed oil which pours straight down the side of the bottle instead of onto the spoon like it is supposed to, I was very impressed with this product. Both the taste and spill-proof bottle design are great.

__________________________________________________________________________________

NOTE: I have left an update on my eczema condition in the comments section of this review. To summarize the update: I tried applying the oil topically to the affected area and it stopped the itch and burn completely! Applying the hemp seed oil directly to the affected area cures yourself of eczema!!! (8/15/2011)

__________________________________________________________________________________

Couldn't be happier with this hemp seed oil. The delicious nutty flavor makes it easy to take this as a daily supplement. The texture will take some getting used to if you're taking it straight as a supplement (it is oil after all). And you can't beat the price here on Amazon. The original price is $20 and here it's half that!

I actually decided to get this because I heard an omega6 deficiency causes eczema (a skin disease that I have). I've been taking it for about a week and my skin is showing improvement. I itch less and my skin doesn't inflame as badly. I'm thinking I need to up the dose a little bit. Maybe I'll start taking 1 full tablespoon instead of 2 teaspoons that I'm taking daily. I understand this probably won't be of use to most people simply looking for hemp seed oil, but I will update in the comments of this review about how my eczema curing progress is going. Maybe this can help someone.

Nutiva is obviously very passionate and dedicated to the products they sell. The label on this oil is informative and their website is even more informative. By quality of this oil alone I can say I trust this company, and I'll be buying from them in the future.

tried this product to replace butter in some recipies and it worked well. I just hope that it does not give me a positive reading on any drug test i have to take for my work. i don't know if i could explain that one. I do love the flavor and the fact that it is raw. It has a green color that my wife frowned upon when she saw it, but it did not effect the out come of the recipie and everyone loved the results. - Cooking - Coconut Oil - Good Fats - Coconut'

Garden Gnome

Im not sure what the last person is talking about...we have had four of these on our back deck in the worst possible conditions for about a year. 105+ degrees when the sun is beating down in summer and directly beneath where the water falls from the roof. We didnt see them for about four weeks straight because they have been buried in snow and ice yet they still look exactly like they did when we got them. Im not a gnome expert or anything but they seem fine to me. Terrapin Trading, C5/TDE-48254, Garden Gnome, Large

This product was purchased as a gift for mother's day. The gnome was precisely as described, and the little guy fits in my mom's yard just perfectly! I would like to note that these gnomes are quite a bit smaller than I expected. The dimensions were listed, I just didn't realized exactly how small it truly was. It is a solid product, and I would recommend it to anyone!

Camcorder Batteries - camcorder batteries, video production

I purchased this battery as a spare for my Panasonic HDC-SD60K video camera. Visually, it looks like a duplicate of the original equipment battery that came with the camera. The first good sign was when it fit perfectly when I slid it into the camera's battery mount. The battery took it's first charge without a problem. When fully charged this battery also gives me the same amount of recording time as the battery that came with the camera, which is approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. Panasonic VW-VBK180 Li-Ion Battery Pack

This battery is exactly like the one that came with the camera. It has more than met my expectations. Each use has given me almost 2 hours, 35 minutes recording time, which is same for the furnished battery. Very pleased.

I bought battery for a new Panisonic HD Camcorder. I used it the first time in 100 degree heat for several days in a row. I was recording my kid's baseball team playing in north Texas. My camcorder was in the heat and sun for several hours each day. I would start and stop recording at the beginning and end of each half inning (about 10 to 20 minutes). Each game lasted around 2 hours and some times more. My camcorder's SD cards would fill up before the battery was close to dying. Under these conditions I was extremely satisfied with the batteries life and would highly recommend it.

We purchased this battery to take with us on our Alaska vacation. We already had the smaller one but wanted to make sure we had enough battery time to take a lot of videos. Never once did we run this battery out of power, and we took a lot of videos. Seems to have at least 3 and a half hours per charge every time. Shipping was fast and no problems.

Panasonic HDC-TM55K Hi-Def Camcorder with 8GB Flash Memory & 35X Intelligent Zoom (Black)

Genuine factory battery, works just like the original that was included with the TM55 Panasonic camcorder and looks identical, too

no problems whatsoever, i get about 100 minutes out of it, with no time down for cooling

happy with it, would buy again

Contemporary Romance - contemporary, romance

This is such an enjoyable short story, as is the whole series. I wish more people would discover Elle Kennedy. Yes, the stories are short, but they are well written, sexy, hot, and pack a really good and complete story within the confines of a ss.

Each book is self-contained, but as each story is about a different member of SEAL Team 15, a lot of couples from previous books are touched upon, so it's best to start with the first one to get to know all the couples. Heat of the Night: Out of Uniform, Book 5

Be careful what you put on paper. It could come back to taunt and tease you...if you're lucky!!

What better way is there to be woken up then to have a sexy guy kissing your neck and running his hands over your body? Yeah, that would be sweet as long as you actually know the guy in question! It's a toss up who was more surprised Annabelle or Ryan when they realized the mistake. Conversely, their reactions were one of the things I liked about Heat of the Night. It was genuine. Where the author could have had Annabelle simply turn over and be just fine with some random guy crawling in bed with her, she had Annabelle screaming, kicking and reaching for a lamp to throw. The conversation between Annabelle and Ryan during the exchange was priceless!

In this fifth book of the Out of Uniform series we get to know Navy SEALs members, Ryan and Matt. While Matt isn't a major factor in this story, let's just say he leaves an indelible impression on Annabelle! I'm hoping Ms. Kennedy has one more Uniform story in mind so Matt can have his HEA as well.

You may remember Ryan from book four, Heat It Up. He is a complete charmer and Annabelle really has to put some effort into not giving into him from the get go. When she finally resolves her feelings regarding her recent breakup and decides to give Ryan a chance, the story really becomes interesting. Ryan challenges Annabelle's perception of what is right and what is just plain "fun" and dirty. On the other hand, Annabelle gets Ryan to open up about his terrible childhood and eventually his obsession with his best friend's girl. There is obvious personal growth for both Ryan and Annabelle that just added to the well thought out layers of the plot.

If you enjoy witty dialogue, sarcastic and sexy characters and a smoking HEA you will love Heat of the Night. This reviewer has added books 1 - 4 to her TBR list as well. There's just something about a man in (or out of) uniform!

This is the fifth instalment in the short story series Out of Uniform. This story, like the rest in the series, was well written and full of humor, romance and steamy scenes. This was a quick read. This is the story of Ryan and Anabelle. Ryan has always been a playboy, being one of the last remaining single guys among his friends. He gets into his neighbors bed looking for a night of fun, only shocked to find that the person in the bed was someone else. He grabs his clothes from the floor and leaves in a hurry. With his clothes, he finds a list that apparently his neighbor's sexy friend had written. It contained her fantasies and things she wanted to try. Ryan is determined to be the guy to make her fantasies come true. Anabelle was still shocked from the events, but couldn't help notice the man: he was gorgeous with a body to die for. Ryan looked wild and rugged, which was the complete opposite from the fiancee who dumped her and called her a prude. She decides to let loose and let Ryan make her fantasies come true. But what happens after the list is done? Only for you to find out....

This series short and sweet, but well written and fun to read. I love that we get to catch up with all the other couples from the previous books. It would probably be best to read the other books in order so you can understand the secondary characters and the history between all of them. - Alpha Male - Elle Kennedy - Contemporary - Romance'

Bike Accessories - bike mirrors, bicycle accessories

This mirror is fantastic. I bought it to replace a helmet mounted mirror when the stem broke on the helmet mount. I can't tell you how much better I like this bar-end mirror. It's much easier to find this mirror out of the corner of my eye, and it provides a very good view of what's behind me, both in the traffic lanes and directly behind me in the bike lane.

I did have to mutilate the grip on my handlebar to remove the plug and cut out and opening for the mirror, so just trying it out requires some commitment, but once it is mounted the installation looks clean.

I didn't have any significant trouble with the installation. The directions are a little bit unclear about what to do with piece that goes inside the bar (the directions say to "secure" it, but you need to leave it loose, securing only the nut, until it is inside the bar). If you look at the piece and think about how it's going to hold the mirror in place, it's pretty obvious what to do with it.

The mirror itself stays put very well on rides. It shakes a very little bit, but really only little. The stability is surprisingly good for a piece for which it is so easy to adjust the angles.

All the parts can be replaced individually if broken for about $4 each plus shipping. Mirrycle MTB Bar End Mountain Bicycle Mirror

I have now used 3 types of mirrors for my road bike for both commutes and long tours: Take A Look mirror, the Mirrycycle round "mountain bike" mirror on the bar end, and the Sprintech bar end mirror for drop handlebars.

Short review: I like Mirrycycle the best.

I bought the Take a Look mirror based on the strength of reviews from Amazon and I was a little disappointed.

One strength I was expecting from the other reviews was being able to always see behind me no matter which position I used on the handlebars and without having to move my head like when you look down at the bar end mirror. This was kind of true, but you had to get your head to the same angle. I found the angle for the top of the bar to be very unnatural in the lower grips. It was impossible to tilt my head up that far on my bike with aero bars. In order to see back and to the left while on the brake hoods I usually had to tilt up and twist my head and when down on the lower grips I had to tilt WAY up and twist. You can't check behind you without moving your head because you have to do a lot of sweeping motions to see all around behind you and those are more uncomfortable in the lower positions.

I used Take A Look for a couple weeks commuting every day and doing long rides on the weekend and I sort of got used to sweeping my head around to check behind me, but the deal breaker for me was that most of what I saw while commuting was my backpack. When you have a backpack full of clothes and in a pretty leaned forward road bike position what the mirror sees looking back past your ear is back pack, even when on the top of the handlebars. If you are riding a more upright bike (hybrid, mountain bike, or others) it probably wouldn't be a problem. It also wouldn't be a problem if you had panniers (won't work for me because I have a large laptop that would make panniers severly unbalanced). It was fine on the weekend rides without a backpack.

I found either of the bar end mirrors (Mirrycycle or Sprintech) to be better than the Take A Look. The Sprintech is nice because it is convex and shows a wide area. Some people see that as a minus because it is hard to judge distance, but you shouldn't use the mirror as a substitute for looking behind you, just as a way to alert you that a car is back there somewhere and may warrant a head turn look behind. You can also get good coverage from the mirror from all handle bar positions, but the mirror is a tad small. It doesn't stick out far from the bike so it doesn't get bonked around storing the bike, but your knee can be in the way sometimes.

The Mirrycycle "mountain bike" bar end mirror is the best in my opinion. It goes fine on road bike handlebars. Since it's flat you have to compromise a little bit on the position or move your head a little to see behind you from the different grips, but there is no distortion like a convex mirror. It sticks out from the bike so you can see behind you without obstuction at all times. The downside to sticking out is that when you are entering or leaving the lower grips on the drop handle bars it is a little in the way of your left hand. It's not a big deal. Also when you want to lean the bike on anything the mirror is in the way. It's an annnoyance I don't mind putting up with to have the best view when I ride. It's big so you get a good viewing area. I guess it's not very aero dynamic, but lose some weight and gain some muscle and you can overcome that.

All three mirrors have to be adjusted everytime you ride. There is no set and forget mirror. The Take A Look itself holds position well on the ride, but your glasses never seem to fit exactly the same everytime you put them on and pretty much anything you do with them once you take them off will change the adjustment. This is even worse if you want to take the mirror off and use the glasses between rides (without looking like a dork). Take a Look also takes lots of little adjustments to get right. Sprintech mirror is flimsy and loses adjustment easily, but is also the easiest to adjust by a long shot. You just slide your hand down to the end of the bar and adjust it with your pinky as you ride, takes 2 seconds at most. It's convex and covers a wide area and the mirror doesn't move very far so it's never very far off from a good adjustment. The Mirrycycle mirror is stiff and holds position really well once you set it, but since it sticks out from the side just about anything you do to move or store the bike readjusts it. It takes a little more fine tuning than the Sprintech, but less than the Take A Look.

Of the three I prefer the Mirrycycle mirror. - Bicycle Mirror - Mirrycle - Bicycle Accessories - Bike Mirrors'

Small Digital Camcorder - high definition, low light

I was looking to replace my JVC Everio, that had a 60GB hard drive in it. I loved the convenience of the hard drive, since that replaced an older unit I had that used the small tape cartridges. But the prices for the HD capable units are more than I was willing to pay for a camcorder, so looked at the units that just used memory sticks.

I have the Sony DSC-TX1 digital camera and was blown away by its optical quality, and it even took 720p movies which were just insanely clearer than my 1 year old JVC camcorder. That was when I realized I needed to lose the JVC. Almost all the movies I do are of my son, now 6 years old, so the better the quality the happier I would be. Too many artifacts with the low definition JVC, panning was just ugly ugly ugly, and while it had a great response in low light, the picture quality was just not what I wanted considering how good everything else with my TV and still camera.

I was initially going to get the 100 version of this, since it was so insanely cheap for a 1080 capable camcorder, but the bad low light capability put me off, since most of what I record is in my house. And the very low numbers for optical zoom also concerned me. But amazon conveniently puts little links under the initial product listing if there's a new version, so I saw the 110 and the price was good. I did some digging on Sony's site, somewhat confused that the cheap little 100 had 16GB built in but the higher end had none, but when I saw the rest of the specs in comparison, I felt it was a very good unit to give a test run with. My local brick and mortars didn't have it in stock, so I ordered it from Amazon and got the Saturday delivery early on Saturday, plenty of time to charge it up and try it out.

I left all settings at default except for the quality setting. That was easy to find, and the touchscreen on this unit makes it very easy to operate. As with my sony still camera, it has a "user" screen too where you can pin the six most used functions to save you from having to navigate into submenus. I love this feature, as it made my touchscreen still camera so simple and quick to use.

So I did four test movies, all of the same thing (my 6 year old playing with a huge Geotrax set), at all four of the options for 1080p resolution. The camera is smaller than I had expected, very light and fits well in the hand. The only real buttons to deal with in normal operation are the zoom and the start/stop recording, which are placed well despite the small size of the unit. If you want to grab a still as well, which you can do while recording, that button is on top right behind the zoom, so it's easy to get at. So use is great, no problems.

As I said, touch screen menu is great, so changing settings as I went was a piece of cake.

Started with the highest 24Mbps, then the next down (I think it was 17Mbps), then the "default" one they start you out at, 9Mbps, then the lowest. When I was done, I pulled the card out (nice, quick access on the bottom with a great, sturdy, hinged door). Went into my macbook pro just fine, and i started playback.

I have a 13" macbook pro, the aluminum unibody, that I got about four months ago. So new core2 duo processor, nvidia 9400 graphics... And it could not play the highest or second highest quality movies raw... Which told me that they were going to be great on my windows 7 media center. The third and fourth files played, but since the laptop is not a 1080 screen, it didn't look that good. So I went ahead and pulled the memory card out of the laptop, put it in my Dell Zino that runs my beautiful 46" Samsung HDTV, and played them all.

One thing I hadn't realized is that when it creates the files, it creates them in a native bluray playback format, the folder structure and all. So that should make it easy for people who will want to burn to Bluray.

Anyway, on the media center, i played the highest quality one first. And my jaw dropped, and I nearly had to go buy some adult diapers. WOW. That was all I could say or think. WOW. It was just outstanding, WAY better than I had expected. And it's not like I'm so unfamiliar with HD that even bad HD was impressive to me - my first HDTV was purchased back in 1999, a huge 60" Mitsubishi diamond line TV. So I've been using HD for over 10 years now. And this just knocked my socks off.

I had nearly no artifacting or blurring or anything with the movement of the camera as I've come to expect from camcorders. Even the blurring was minimal. And the shots of things were just crystal clear. I had a 1080p version of the movie BOLT running on the TV as he played with his geotrax, so I zoomed in so that filled the viewfinder, and recorded some of the movie. During playback at that scene, I couldn't even tell it wasn't the original playing back, that it was a recording of the TV from earlier, it was that clear.

I was indoors, in Wisconsin on a winter day with snow falling, so there was no direct sunlight, just all clouds. Only one window's curtains open, and no lights turned on inside. And the clarity and lighting was excellent. Every bit I could hope for.

So I tried the next down quality, and it blew me away. As did the third and then the lowest quality. All looked stunning. When I got down to the lowest, I could see some difference between it and the highest, but for what I was, and will be, shooting (my son), I think I'll end up using the default third lowest setting because it was still jaw droppingly good on my HDTV.

I got the 16GB card since the 32GB card was still in the three digit price range, and i have a habit of transferring the files to my computer as soon as I'm done shooting anyway. And at the third quality setting, the default 9Mbps one, a 25 minute clip used just 1.9GB, so I should get about 3 1/2 hours on this card at this rate, so I'll not have to worry about running out of media for my normal use.

The display is crisp and clear, widescreen format, and not cluttered when recording. Response to touch was very good, only once when selecting something from a bottom of a menu did I have to touch it twice, since the first didn't register. Didn't take any pressure to get it to see my pressing.

The still picture while shooting video worked easily enough, but they're not great quality, so it won't replace your digital camera if you have a good one. But it may give you a decent still shot of something you would have missed otherwise...

All in all, this is waaaayyyyy better than I had expected, and more than I had even hoped for. 100% satisfied with the unit.

I can't attest to battery usage yet, since I have only had it for five hours, and only ran about 40 or 45 minutes of recording through it so far. In a few days I'll pop back in here and edit this with the results I've seen with regards to the battery life, since this is evidently the first review of this model. Stretching - yoga, exercise

A yoga mat is really the only thing that you tend to use on every yoga workout. It cushions your feet and gives you stability during some of the stretching moves. This mat is a full 1/4" thick and provides great cushion for your yoga routines.

First, a note about all yoga mats. Because of what they are made of, they tend to have a chemical type of smell when you first get them. This is normal! You simply air them out for a few days, perhaps wipe them down with soap and water, and this will dissipate. It's like breaking in a new pair of boots - you have to go through that initial phase.

I found the mat to be really wonderful. It is cushiony enough that it supports me in a variety of poses, whether I'm standing, kneeling, laying down, stretching. It is far better than doing yoga on a bare floor - whether that might be wood, stone, carpet or whatever. The cushion is really important for many poses.

Even though it has that nice cushion, it is also stable too. You feel quite firmly planted when you are doing balancing positions. It's not like you are trying to balance on top of a trampoline.

The mat is a good middle ground between "resistant to sliding" and "too sticky". You can readjust your feet when you need to - but if you want to plant your hands, it helps keep your hands in place.

I also really like that the mats comes in a wide variety of colors. People are more likely to exercise if they really like their exercise equipment. If you love green, go for green. I got the light lavender and really like it. To me it is calming and relaxing. Whatever color energizes or relaxes you, you probably can find it here.

The mat might be a little bulky to carry around with you, but you can get a lighter mat for use when you travel. This one is just perfect as an at-home mat, to really give you a solid base for whatever level of yoga you are currently at.

Highly recommended! YogaAccessories (TM) 1/4'' Extra Thick High Density Yoga Mat (Phthalate Free) - Dark Purple

The thickness of this mat is very comfortable. It's much better than the 1/8" mat which I find it too thin. This 1/4" mat gives me enough padding when I sit, and it doesn't throw me off balance when I stand. I also like the length of this mat which is 4" longer than the standard size mat. It's so good to have so much room to stretch when I lay down. Item arrived within the delivery estimate time. Very prompt service.

I am a daily yoga practitioner who purchased two of these mats in different colors. I was looking for a bargain, and I was encouraged by the high customer ratings. I am very disappointed. First of all, Yoga Accessories did not send me the items until 3+ weeks after I had ordered them. I had to write two e-mails to them. I received replies that they were sorry, they had been meaning to write me and tell me that the colors I had wanted were out of stock and did I want to select other colors. Then, when I did that and finally received the mats, they had a sharp, unpleasant chemical odor that has failed to disappear even after many days of use. This is bothersome during yoga, and I have to light several scented candles and incense sticks to mask the odor.

Perhaps WORST of all, the mats are not sufficiently sticky to hold asanas. For example, my hands slide 1 mm per second in correct Downward Facing Dog pose. It should be noted that I do not have sweaty hands and never have. This is very frustrating because this slippery mat basically defeats the purpose of what it was created for: proper positioning and hold of yoga poses. I have not had this problem with other mats for which I have paid slightly more money.

The only advertising that is true is that the mat is, indeed, slightly thicker than other mats I have owned. But that really doesn't make much of a difference if one cannot hold a pose on the mat.

Despite my correct usage and storage of it, I absolutely do not recommend this product. Find a better quality yoga mat if you need the mat for actual yoga. This one might be appropriate only for other sports like aerobics or jumping rope. I almost hurt myself slipping out of a pose on this mat.

Wow, I couldn't believe how terrible this mat smelled when it arrived. I almost returned it also. Thanks to Google, I figured out that some lemon juice and soap and hanging it up for a while could get the mat less smelly in less time.

I can't believe what a difference the thickness makes when compared to a mat of regular thickness. My wrists, my back and knees are much happier. I highly recommend this mat.

very nice product - very cushion-y. the only reason i gave it a 4 was the chemical smell when it was new. however, i hung it over the bannister for about 5 days and the smell disappeared. this is a satisfying product.

I read reviews & was a bit hesitant re smell. However, I ordered & am so glad. I'm only 5'4" but really appreciated the size--don't have to shift around so much between postures. I ordered burgundy, which is more of a muddy plum, & maybe the color dye has something to do with smell, cuz I don't find mine bad at all. It's just a tiny bit smelly with face to mat. But what does one expect with artificial materials? Only drawback is that it's more bulky due to size, and rolls to just short of 5" diameter, but the comfort is worth it. I've used for several months, & all is well. Buy & enjoy!

I was very disappointed, not in the cushioning value of this mat, which was very good, but rather that it smelled so bad. When I unwrapped it, I had to air it out. Even after 2 weeks airing, the smell was not gone, and the first time I used it in practice, after 10 minutes, I had to stop and take it out of the room. The smell literally made me ill.

NOTE: 8/16/07, THE SMELL THAT BOTHERED ME HAS DISAPPEARED. NOW I WANT TO GIVE THIS PRODUCT FIVE STARS *****. - Mat - Exercise - Mats - Yoga'

By the time I researched and found this bird bath defroster the winter in Philadelphia had pretty much finished doing its worst. However, I was able to get a fair enough picture from the few below freezing nights we have had here. This heater did a very good job of keeping the entire bird bath liquid, while my other bird bath, with a lesser type of defroster, was barely able to keep a two inch circle around itself free of ice. This deicer may be a bit pricey, but it works very well. - Recommended'

Walking - walking, fitness

I've never used a pedometer before but decided to get this to help give me some measurable figures when I work out. I've had this device for about a week and what I really like about it is I can just pick it up, put it in my pocket and just go (running, walking, etc) and it will automatically start taking measurements. I don't have to worry about turning it on and setting it up before I start. I've started just putting it in my pocket at when I'm at work and seeing how many steps I take it each and how far I've walked. It's interesting to see how much walking I do even though our office building is pretty small. I would definitely recommend this little device to anyone who works out or would like to improve their health through exercise and is looking for an easy to use, reliable product. Ozeri 4x3motion Digital Pocket 3D Pedometer with Tri-Axis Technology

I have it for a couple of weeks now. Will come back later to update.

Likes:

1) Does appear to count the steps reasonably well

2) Small and easily fits into pockets

Dislikes:

1) Way off on kcals and distance, even though I had set the step length quite accurately. I have a Polar heart rate monitor and a treadmill and while the kcal reading of the heart rate monitor and the treadmill are quite similar, the kcal reading on the pedometer differ considerably with the other two.

2) Within the first week of use, the unit reset by itself and all my initial settings were lost. NOTE: Make sure you don't lose the little manual that comes with it so that you can go back and change the initial settings. Getting into the mode to change the settings is non-intuitive and you'll certainly need to follow the manual.

3) Resets the step count to zero after a week

4) A bit pricey considering the quirks and lack of features

Recommendation: Given what I know now I would not buy it.

I do a lot of walking and try to get a minimum of 10,000 steps a day completed. I record my steps each day. I've gone through 8 other pedometers, most which I lost because they fell off my belt. I can carry this pedometer in my pocket and it accurately tracks my steps. I like the fact that is stores several days of walking information, which I can retrieve when I want, and it automatically resets to 0 at the beginning of each day. In the past it was very frustrating to walk around 6 miles and accidentally bump the reset button on a pedometer and not know how many steps I actually walked. With this pedometer, I don't have to worry about that now. I am totally pleased with it and highly recommend it.

I purchased my pedometer to start measuring my steps per day. I've heard that a good step goal each day is 10,000 steps. This pedometer works great. It came nicely packaged, battery included. It was easy to store your personal information inside. I've used a different one in the past, but I found this one to be much more accurate and user-friendly. It even stores your steps 7 days a week. It's a nice feature to be able to look back and see how many steps you took in a week! Great buy!!

It's not flexible enough for my needs. The daily counter resets itself once a day out of your control. I've been trying using the "split" function so that I can measure a specific trip - I can get it to reset but its supposed to disengage after 10 seconds of not walking and it does not. Even if it did, that's not flexible enough. In addition, riding in the car makes it think I'm walking (100+ steps after 5 miles of driving)-and without a reset, these things are a pain. You can't hold it in your hand and look at it if your walking- it only measures about 1 of every 2 steps that way. There's no clip for attaching to a belt/hip. The lanyard isn't something I can use, especially since instructions say that if its not secure but bangs around it will not work right - I don't wear the pedometer around my neck that I guess the lanyard is for. Not accurate for stop and start walking, but I guess none of this technology would be. The indicators like miles/hour are very tiny, but you can memorize the order. The instruction booklet is typical translated from foreign language. I decided to order this one instead of the omron because the weight was listed as lighter on this one- but I wonder if the omron one was just a misprint. Omron is only 5 dollars more, and I'm guessing their Trip function works better than this ones Split function and I think it has a clip. This one is cute, lightweight and does seem to count accurately for steady walking. This is my first move up from the old mercury switch wear on the hip pedometer- i'm not sure I'm so impressed. But I'll keep it - I need one now and the time it would take to send it back and see if I like the omron any better isn't worth it.

I've owned a couple of the Omron devices (which appear to be the market leaders ever since the 10,000 step meme came to the fore) and I've given a few as presents. It always struck me as being a bit magical that this oblong thing in your pocket could keep track of your walking through the course of the day.

I hadn't carried one for a while, both because I was satisfied I was moving around enough on a daily basis, and because carrying the Omron is not a no-cost proposition. The Omrons use a two-axis sensor, and so need to have their short axis (the thickness of the device) NOT vertical... that's the axis it can't "see" motion in. The design of the Omron takes care of this nicely: it either goes in its belt clip (oh goody... more borg devices to have hanging off what's becoming my utility belt), or in a pocket, where its overall shape pretty much guarantees it'll be in a workable orientation: the short access will always rotate to be perpendicular to your leg, because of the compressing nature of pants pockets. Clever design!

However... that oblong or shield-shaped form factor that orients the device properly in your pocket also takes up a lot of space. Have an Omron in your pocket, along with a few business cards and you pretty quickly start looking like a victim of kangarooitis, with pockets bulging in unflattering ways. :) So carrying the Omron-style device is not without its cost to your overall convenience.

When I saw the Ozeri device, I was intrigued, because a 3-axis device wouldn't have the same limitations the 2-axis devices do. It looked small, and seemed a "next generation" design. I thought I'd give it a try.

Wow. What a difference! This little gizmo can hang around your neck, or ride in a pocket (along with other items, very comfortably) and work just fine! It's substantially smaller than my old favorite. The jury's out on durability and such; I'll update this review when I know more on that front, but so far I'd call the Ozeri 4x3motion Pocket 3D Pedometer a clear win! - Walking - Step Counter - Exercise - Fitness'

Wireless Pointer - remote, presenter

I've used both this version and the previous version of this device and have found a few significant changes.

First, the laser button also puts Powerpoint into presentation mode, a feature absent on the previous model. However, rather than presenting the current screen in presentation mode, it goes to the first page of the presentation. I could see this being a disadvantage if you want to use your laser pointer while being in the normal view mode. However, others had previous complained that there was not a way of automatically going back into presentation mode if you accidentally exit out of presentation when you're on the last slide -- something that this feature really doesn't fix.

The USB transmitter that plugs into the computer is nearly half the size in the new version, which is nice, given the bulky size of the previous version.

The device now runs on AAA batteries instead of a smaller, disc-type battery. This is nice, since you had to go to a store to pick up replacement batteries for the old version.

The new device is also slightly heavier, but not significantly so.

Otherwise, the device seems the same (color, texture are slightly different) Kensington 33374 Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer

I love the Kensington presenters. The best aspect of them is the simplicity. If I am running a conference, I can just hand it to speakers (academics mainly) and they can use it right away. So having a new version taking AA batteries was very exciting. It's not that the old disk batteries were that bad: I just never had a small screwdriver to get to them!

This new version has some improvements: the USB thingy now stays in its holder better, so it doesn't fall out in my backpack. The overall feel of the presenter is good. But I need to find a small screwdriver, put in a new disk battery, go back to my old presenter and give this one to someone else. As others have noted, pushing the laser has the side effect of sending an F5 to the system. No problem if in powerpoint, but for any other program, this leads to all sorts of weird behavior. For instance, when I switch from powerpoint to illustrate something in Excel and press the laser, up pops a "Go to" window. Confusing and annoying to all concerned.

The advantage of being able to start a powerpoint presentation (which is what F5 does in powerpoint) is vastly outweighed by the inability to use the laser pointer with any other software.

I've compared about 5 or 6 presenters in actual use for a corporate application. All work well and get the job done. This one worked flawlessly -- plugs in, recognized by pc, and buttons are working immediately. The functionality is limited to 4 buttons though and a laser, which is fine for basic needs. If that's all you need (forward, back, stop, laser), then this is a good choice. I prefer the Logitech for the added convenience of having a volume control and timer, but if those features aren't important, this is an equally good unit.

I bought this item on Amazon several months ago (as an awesome lightning deal nonetheless) and I've been able to use it and test it. I own and primarily use a MacBook Pro (now 1 generation old) running OS X 10.5 Leopard so my main concern in purchasing this item was its compatibility with the Mac OS and IWork '08 version of PowerPoint (namely Keynote). I am happy to say that the item seems to function without any trouble with Keynote! For various reasons, I also run Microsoft Office 2008 Mac - and I'm happy to report that the device also functions with Powerpoint. Perhaps the best thing of all with this wireless presenter is that there is no software to install. Note to Mac users - when you put the receiver into the USB port OS X will prompt you with a wizard thinking that the receiver is actually a keyboard - just close the dialog, no harm no foul. Overall, a great buy, highly recommended!

The Kensington wireless remote with laser pointer works exactly as advertised. Put the USB receiver into a PC's USB port, give it a few seconds to be recognized (we tested this with Windows XP SP2), fire up a PowerPoint presentation (we use PowerPoint 2003), and the buttons move the presentation forward, backward, or hide it. We had no problem using it from the back of our lunchroom, about 50' to the laptop.

Caveat: putting the receiver back in the main unit turns it off, which is good, unless someone wants to use just the laser pointer. The receiver is very small and could get lost easily (even if someone puts it in a pocket, it would be easy to forget). If you pop out the receiver slightly but leave it in the unit, the laser is on but the receiver won't get lost.

The Kensington pointer is half the price of competing units but better designed and functions better than others. The case is sturdy, has a no-slip outer coating, has a comfortable feel in the hand, and even includes a trench that serves as a holder for the receiver when not in use. Placing the receiver in this trench automatically disconnects the laser so that batteries do not have to be removed to prevent the laser turning on when the unit is packed for a trip or placed in one's pocket. And the advance and go-back buttons function all of the time, not just most of the time! The only thing holding this from being a 5 star item is the weak laser pointer. I would be happy to pay an extra $20-$30 dollars to have this same pointer with a bright green laser. Nevertheless, a very well designed, functional unit.

The Kensington 33374 looks very high-tech and is easily installed but lacks in some very important areas. First off, I present to large groups of people and do not like to stand in one spot when I present. The Kensington will not change the slides on the laptop if you are more than 20 feet away or if there is obstructions between myself and the USB plug in. The pointer also projects a very small red dot, which is almost impossible to see from further distances. I recommend the PowerPresenter from StreetSmart. It is a little bit more expensive but has been worth every penny. The slides will change every time whether I am 10 feet away or 110 feet away. - Presenter - Laser Pointer - Powerpoint - Remote'

Gel Pen - pentel, worlds best pen

I tried so many gel ink pens I can keep count of them. Finally, I found what I was looking for: a fine tip, vivid color, fast-to-dry gel ink (ideal for left-handed).

The gel is the same of the Pentel Energel plastic ones but in a fancy metal pen. Once you are out of ink, you can buy a refill from amazon of from pentel website.

The tip is retractable but it does not auto-retract as the plastic ones do. The plastic ones have a mechanism that makes the tip retract when you clip the pen into your pocket.

All in all this is a great pen. If you are satisfied with the Pentel Energel ink this is a must-have upgrade. Pentel EnerGel Alloy RT Gel Pen, Medium Metal Tip, Silver Barrel, Black Ink, 1 Each (BL407BP)

I fancy myself a pen snob. I buy my own at work because I am picky and want one that feels just right. I have to say, having tried some great pens from Pilot, I was using several of their models on a regular basis. Then I tried this pen from Pentel and it is AWESOME! It writes so smoothly and the heft of the metal chassis is firm without being heavy. When people come in my office and try it out, they love it! I only wish it was easier to find .5 mm extra fine tips for refills.

I don't write a lot but when I do I write with Pentel EnerGel Alloy RT Gel Pen, Medium Metal Tip, Silver Barrel, Black Ink, 1 Each (BL407BP). I have a thing with pens that makes it impossible for me to write with a regular pic or one of those papermate pens unless i really really have to. This pen definitely has weight to it but it is not heavy and the balance to it makes it very easy to write. I am not a big fan of gel pens because they smear easily, but the ink in this pen dries very quickly.

After recently buying and using a uni-ball 207 Premier Retractable Gel Roller Ball Pen, 1 Black Ink Pen (40108), I was very happy. I especially liked the squishy soft barrel insert. It was my new primary pen to have at all times ... until I researched, bought, and tried this pen.

When delivered, I immediately tested it on a "ToDo" list I had just written with the Uniball. The obvious difference was apparent - BLACKER ink. This reminded me of how much better my contracts look when printed on bright white laser paper versus normal 96 brightness paper.

In a nutshell, this Pentel Alloy RT is now my primary everyday pen. The Uniball is good, but now takes 2nd place as a reserve pen - in case I don't have my Pentel handy.

Just like other reviewers, I highly recommend this pen!

Be sure to get yourself Pentel Refill Ink for EnerGel and Lancelot Gel Pen, 0.7mm, Metal Tip, Black Ink, 2 Pack (LR7BP2A) for only $2.44 here through Amazon.

I have a "thing" for pens, all types, colors, etc. This is my favorite pen of all time. It writes so smooth and I have never had a problem with the ink smudging. I actually purchased a second one when I had misplaced my first one.

I'll use this pen forever!! (refils are fairly cheap)

This pen has the look and feel of an expensive pen, and the ink flows smoothly for a superior writing experience. I prefer a retractable roller ball pen, and this is the best writing RT pen I have found. - Pentel - Worlds Best Pen'

Jewelry History And Design - jewelry, costume jewelry

This luxe hardback book is an absolute treat for any jewelry lover of any sort. It will call to you to immerse yourself in all things luxurious, divine and beautiful; the jewelry pieces which men and women have created for so many reasons throughout the past, circa 1890 (Art Nouveau) up to today.

I defy you to purchase VINTAGE JEWELRY DESIGN as a gift and not want a copy for yourself. I haven't seen anything as fabulously educational concerning its topic (as a textbook, it is cohesively written and brilliant), and at the same time as gloriously sumptuous (it is metaphorically like your favorite candlelit bath with bubbles, chocolate, and music), ever. I could continue to praise it in this manner however I would rather explain why it has this marvelous appeal.

VINTAGE JEWELRY DESIGN opens with a very modest, straightforward foreword, by a very famous jewelry designer, Gerda Flockinger. She has studied jewelry since her childhood (her mother was a fashion designer). She chronicles some of her experiences which brought her to her decision to become a jewelry designer. It is a fascinating read by one of this century's greatest jewelry pioneers, a shining star of modern jewelry design.

Following this is the introduction by author Caroline Cox. She really knows her jewelry and she has the most fantastic eye for what the reader will be drawn to and how to sum up each decade. In her introduction, she explains that the intention of this book is to chart "over 100 years of jewelry history" and that it is a "celebration of the best designers and houses of fine jewelry through to key costume jewelry and the most exciting of the craft and the avant-garde." She continues, VINTAGE JEWELRY DESIGN "will help you know in which direction your collecting passion lies." And in fact, that is exactly what it accomplishes.

This amazing book will help you visualize some of your inner dreams of what you think is most beautiful in the jewelry world and where it lies historically. You will emerge more knowledgeable and, if possible, even more passionate than ever about jewelry.

Here is the listing of the Chapters: (note: at the end of each chapter is a summary of key looks of the decade--really wonderful and helpful)

1890-1910: Divinely Decadent --the photos are amazing in this chapter. It is explained that the bourgeoisie came in this period to finally have money to burn. What did they want? Name brand jewelry from the most fantastic design houses. Yes, they were ready to spend it on luxurious jewelry from design houses such as Cartier, Faberge and Tiffany. There is a discussion of L'Art Nouveau, La Belle Epoque, and jewelery as art. You will learn more about some of the leading names of the time and I would be surprised if you don't fall in love with this era.

1910s : The Edwardian Era --this is a fascinating explanation of what "Edwardian" is. FINALLY. Now I understand. I hope I am not the only one who was confused. This, for me, is worth the price of the book alone. It has to do with the splendor of Versailles and a revival of the Rococco look embraced by ladies such as Mrs. John Jacob Astor, who purchased most of her jewelry from Cartier. Lots of filigree work on the jewelry from this era. Also look for hair ornaments and dog collars from this time period.

1920s: Streamlined and Chic --This era is exemplified by design merging with an industrial look. The photographs of Modernist jewelry by Jean Fouquet and Cartier are simply astounding. What an extraordinary change from the previous era. At the same time, Tutankhamen's tomb was discovered and this created a craze for Egyptian style jewelry. I flipped for this, and expect that you will too. Gemstones come to the fore in new and incredibly colorful ways. Coco Chanel appears on the scene. If that doesn't get you excited, nothing will! The key looks listed at the end of this chapter are incredible.

1930s: Hollywood Glamour -- This contains a fascinating learning experience concerning Joseff of Hollywood, who created many of the pieces of jewelry for some of the most famous films of the era, such as "Gone with the Wind". He has also designed for the red carpet crowd, and his designs can be found in department stores. Fascinatingly the reader will learn that when the Depression came, diamond sales plummeted until De Beers came up with the slogan, "A Diamond is Forever". Harry Winston appears on the scene at this point, and utilizes his sincere love for diamonds with clever use of celebrity advertising to create a huge name for himself.

Continuing on, the following Chapters are:

1940s: F for Fake

1950s: Mid-Century Sparkle

1960s: POP Goes the Future

1970s: The Body, Bold and Beautiful

1980s: The power and the Glory

1990s to Now: Future Collectables

and then there are some sections which are very valuable:

Shopping & Collecting Guide

Glossary of Jewelry Terms

Index and

Further Reading and Acknowledgements

As the reader can see I don't wish to wear you all out concerning the continuing chapters (nor do I wish to reveal too much). Jewelry lovers will see that this extraordinary compilation of jewelry from all decades and genres has real reason to exist at the time periods which it did. It is fantastically exciting to understand that jewelry has never existed in a void. The culture which surrounds it affects it in each era.

As Gerda Flockinger states in her foreword, "Jewelry probably predates most other human fashioning, possibly even clothing, certainly writing and perhaps even speech. It must surely originate in the realm of the instincts, close behind food, shelter and sex."

I have never thought of it this way, but my experiences with jewelry are intense and passionate. I definitely agree with her sentiments, therefore. I completely applaud this wonderful book. I learned so much from

VINTAGE JEWELRY DESIGN. I know I shall return to it, to refer to it with great delight, over and over again. I hope that you decide to buy it and that you love it as much as I do.
