2 Way Radio - gmrs-frs two-way radios, 2-way radio
This product working very good and sounds very clear for me. For my experience I found these two Midland and Uniden brands are best over all other brands: easy to use, battery last longer, and voice sound better. My battery life last longer on this brand name in compare to AudioVox, Motorola and Cobra brand. I like very much...and I bought a pair and then 2 months later bought another pair of (Midland GXT1050VP4 36-Mile 50-Channel) with higher mile range. So check it out and buy it whenever the price is right low. Thank you for reading. Midland LXT114 22-Channel 18-Mile FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair)
This is a initial review of the Midland LXT114 [pair].
I just picked these up over the 4th of July sale Ace Hardware had. Originally selling of $14. each, they had on special with a $10. rebate by mail check each. So for a final investment I thought I could not go wrong for $4. each! They are a bit larger that the pair of Uniden [5 yrs. old] GMR 325-2's that I already own. They take the same batteries AAA x 3 as the older ones. The clip seems nice and sturdy, the battery covers are a bit tricky to get off but I'm hoping they loosen a bit with age. One nice thing is that the pre-programmed channels [22] all have freq's that match the Unidens, I was not expecting this & very happy. So now I have four radios that work togather for a total investment of about $25!!! We mostly use on family/friend outings. Hoping these are better on battery use than the Unidens, we will see. FYI the screen is NOT backlit like the photo shows. It is a light grey [unlit] with bold black numbers. Not especially helpful in low-light/night situations. I will post additional comments as we use further.
The radios work just fine for a short distance. The vox , auto talk works on voice activation, but be careful what you say and remember it is on, because phone rings , talking on the phone, dog barking or any other slight noise will activate it. Tried these up to 5 miles in the country setting and would not work, but if you are closer they work just fine.
The sound quality of these midland two way radios is not as good as some other radios that I have used. I had a spare motorola two way on hand and by comparison the sound quality of the motorola was much clearer. The midland radios have a sort of white noise that I did not hear from the motorola. I am not saying the there was no background noise with the motorola but rather the noise was much softer and less distracting. The voice quality of the midland suffers because of that white noise hissing.
I did not test the range so I can't comment on that.
This radios don't work as good as they're advertise. As a matter of fact they don't even come close.
The manufacturer says that if you are in a flat area with no obstructions, that they can reach up to 18 miles. Well
I live in the country wich is the best place to test these because there's no interference and a quarter of a mile was all
I got from them. I bought these to keep in touch with my kids in a cruise and that was even worse.
If we weren't in the same floor we couldn't copy each other. - Gmrs-frs Two-way Radios - 2-way Radio - 2 Way Radio - 2 Way Radios'

Usb Car Charger - elago, iphone charger
I love elago nano USB car charger. The reason is that design is very compact and easy to use. Unlike traditional big size usb car charger, this is small enough but performs perpectly and powerful. Moreover, pull ring makes usb car charger easlier to unplug from jack. I should say this product is very very convenient. In addition, LED indicator shows if usb car charger is connected with jack or not. It works perfectly with my car TOYOTA and Ford.
I would recomend to have this elago nano USB car charger for your mobile power supply accessory. elago Nano EL-Car-C1 USB Car Charger for iPhone, iPod, MP3 Players, Digital Cameras, PDAs, and Mobile Phones (Black)
This device works with iPhone 4 and 3GS.
When plugged into the cigarette lighter jack, the green light comes on to indicate it is ready.
You would need a separate USB iPhone cable (or other types of USB cable if you use a different device) to connect to this device since this devices does NOT come with a iPhone USB cable.
This charger has a aluminum handle that you can conveniently use to pull the device from the cigarette lighter jack.
It looks very much like a part of the interior on a 2010 Jeep JK. Most people who see it want to know what the USB port goes to... It looks that good. I actually do have a USB port for the stereo, but it's not in sight... And it works fine. The JK has 2 cigarette type plugs it can go into, one switched with the ignition and one not - perfect for camping trips. I move it to the unswitched to recharge cell phone and not have to turn on the key.
Just be careful that it will fit your vehicle - read other reviews here.
This is an awesome product if you want a very nice looking and functional USB power outlet in your car. The cigarette lighter socket in my MB ML450H is inside the ash tray and pops up when you pull out the tray. No other USB adapter would let me close the tray when not in use without removing the adapter itself. I love that when this is plugged-in, it looks like the USB port was built-in from the factory - the chrome part is a very nice touch. It is so low-profile that I can close the ash tray drawer without removing the adapter!!! AWESOME! Get one for your car! I hope that they will come out with higher power adapter that can charge an iPad.
Cool design but poor quality. The silver band in the photo is a pull handle that flips out for you to extract the charger from the power socket. The first time I removed it (which unfortunately is beyond the 30 day return policy), the handle broke right through the plastic face that has the elago logo on the front. Completely cracked right through. Thin cheap plastic. Im fired up. Should have bought another brand.
These charge just fine and work on my EVO 4G. BUT....The plastic is cheap. I purchased 3. One was cracked when I got it and missing a chunk of plastic from the face on each side of the USB plug. I returned that one for a refund. Now the other 2 are cracked in the same places. I leave them plugged in the car 100% of the time so there is no reason for them to crack. Luckily, although they are cracked, they still function normally. Also, another big problem is they do not fit in all cars. For example, it fits in only 1 of the 2 power outlets in a '09 Mazda 6, and will not fit either power outlet in a 2010 CX-7. Basically, for this to fit, your car needs to have NO obstruction such as a door/cover for your 12 volt power outlet. I'm shopping for low profile replacements... I would have given it 3 or 4 stars if I didn't have 3 of them with cracked plastic.
As any product should, this one works perfectly. There are lots more going for this product than just its functionality, though.
The design is rather elegant, and I think the green LED is the most convenient feature of it. It is there to show that it is working. In my case this is especially convenient because it also shows me where to plug my USB device in. If the plug you are using is in a dark area, this will help tremendously. I cannot imagine looking for the USB port if there was no LED indicator, as the power plug I'm using in my car is in the darkest area on planet earth.
The next thing that has it going for it is also its design. While many other charging accessories jut out like a sore thumb, this one is very low-profile. Being very critical the first time I put it in, I could not find any fault in what it looked like; that is because it looked like it was part of the car originally. It almost seemed like it was not an add-on, but rather an included accessory or an optional accessory the dealer made.
The next praise is also design-based. The metallic plastic portion of the charger is actually a loop that allows you to easily remove the charger! It is so simple and elegant, I did not realize that until a month later. The design of it was so integrated I could not tell even after knowing what it is for.
In fact, the whole unit seems like it is part of the car originally.
That is not to say this product does not have a fault. In fact, there is a rather large flaw in my case that prevented it being the perfect product.
I do not know about other cars, but this unit is slightly lose in the socket of my car. If I were to quickly pull out the USB plug from this unit, the unit will partially come out of the socket as well. I definitely believe the fit should be more snug so it can stay in more securely. Although not a huge problem, it is a nuisance.
However, I can safely say that was the only (slight) problem I have encountered with this product. I am very pleased with this purchase, and will not hesitate to recommend this product to you or anybody I know. - Elago - Low Profile - Usb Charger - Iphone Charger'

Electrical - surge protectors, power strip
I got this power strip to use with my media center, and it works pretty well.
Pros:
- Cheap and good quality.
- Dedicated ports for power bricks.
- Creative design saves a bit of space.
- Lengthy cord.
- Flat plug design.
Cons:
- The design of the plug means that it blocks the bottom wall outlet if you plug it into the top outlet. A right-angle plug would have been much better.
- The cord is stiff, making it difficult to position the surge protector.
- The creative design means that cables will cross over each other when you use all the outlets.
Overall, it's very good for the price, but if you're like me and you like to keep your cables neat, this surge protector can be a little tricky. Fellowes CRC99090 Mighty 8 Surge
I have been using this for my entertainmetn center for a few years and has performed as expected. The multiple angles allow for bulky transformers and cords coming from different angles but the end result is a tangled looking mess. Still it works and that is probably unavoidable. I always look for a flat plug so that is nice but the cord comes off straight down rather than to the side meaning it will block the outlet below. I just use the bottom plug so it is not an issue but it is something to consider if you have other constraints (plugs that are controlled by a light switch etc). this is a minor issue though. In all I have been happy with it...
I ordered that Fellowes 99090 to protect a new computer and the several peripherals that attach to it. Its most attractive features are the price, the compact form and the innovative design allowing for as many as eight plugs to attach to it. So far, I am happy with my purchase.
Here are the specs and features:
- 3 line protection
- right-angle plug
- 15-Amp circuit breaker
- 120V 60Hz
- Noise filtering 40-45dB
- Joule rating 1300
- UL 1449 Rating/Clamping Level 330
- 6 ft. chord
- Illuminated on/off switch
- LED surge indicator
- Up to 8 outlets
The warranty paper claims 'lifetime' for the item itself and up to $50,000 on connected equipment for 5 years.
The lifetime in 'lifetime warranty' promise is not the purchaser's life but the life of the product itself. To quote from the Fellowes warranty document, "the lifetime of the product is considered to be the time until the product naturally ceases to provide surge protection". In other words, there is a warranty on the product for as long as it works. To quote again, "when the LED fails to light, the product has performed its duty" and the lifetime warranty is no longer in effect.
As for the $50,000 connected equipment warranty, the paper enumerates 10 instances under which the warranty becomes null and void including "4. Fellowes determines that the equipment was not damaged by an Event or that no Event took place. 5. Fellowes determines that the Surge Protector was not properly installed, was tampered with, or was altered in any way."
To conclude, this is good value for the price but forget about the warranties. I am taking one star away for the warranty claims.
The layout of the outlets on the Mighty 8 are great for tight situations on stages. It can be tucked behind or in between equipment and it will still allow easy access to all eight outlets, even when power cords are routed in from many different angles. I had been using a Mighty 8 for over 5 years and it never failed me. That one is still going strong, but the warranty for the surge suppression expires after 5 years, so it was time for a new one. You should always replace your surge suppressors after that long anyway. This is great, durable product.
This is a well thought-out design for a power strip. I can fix 4-5 power adapters without wasting any other points. Good build quality and sturdy cord to the wall. The wall plug is 'bent' so that the thick wire runs parallel (instead of perpendicular) to the wall socket.
I love this design because it is compact, and allows for multiple power supplies to be plugged into it without interference. I also love the right angle plug because it allows you to position your computer desk or table close to a wall.
Finally a surge protector without wasted plugs. My straight power strips end up with half of their plugs covered by bulky or wide transformers. With this one I can use all available plugs, allowing me to use just one strip instead of two. The price is right too. I am impressed! - Surge Protection - Fellowes - Power Strip - Surge Protectors'

Laser Pointers - laser pointer, 50mw
This laser is virtually the same model that was sold for [...]a while back, with a price hike. I've owned it for about two weeks, and have already gone through 3 sets of batteries, and gotten hours of use out of it.
Although it claims to be 50 mw, it's not. It is, however, fairly bright. I would say that after doing a few mods to the laser, you could get it to top out at 20 mw, but from the factory, it's between 10 and 15. It will not light matches, and after holding it up against a dark colored baloon for a minute or so, there was a visible mark, but it didn't quite pop. However, if you walk into a dark room at night and shine it at the ceiling, you will be able to navigate the room with ease with the light produced. I can shine the laser the whole way across my college campus at night (maybe 1/2 mile), and see the dot on the buildings. The beam is visible at night, and easier to see if there's less light pollution. In a dimly lit room, it's also sometimes visible. When shining it on any given spot in broad daylight, you can still see the spot from a distance. If you accidentally bounce the beam off of something reflective and it catches you in the eye, you'll see spots for a few minutes. My friend shined it on a white piece of paper, then complained it made his eyes hurt. It will nicely point out stars in the sky; watching the beam stretch endlessly up is the coolest thing. If you're looking for a laser for presentations/messing with people/other casual uses, this is the best laser out there for the lowest price. If you want something that can burn, you're looking at at least [...]more.
There is one thing I don't like about this laser. After a few hours of use, the beam was less "clean"- Instead of it being one bright spot, there was a little bit of radiation around it. For example, at 10 feet, the dot was maybe 1/4 inch around, but there was a dim 3" circle of laser light around it. After cleaning the lens, it was better, but it still irritated me to see artifacts projected on my target. Also, the beam spreads out a little bit after a distance (At the source, the beam diameter is less than 1/8 of an inch. At a mile away, the diameter would be about 8 feet). You can effectively see it at 1/2 mile on an object, but that's the max. The lens should be adjustable (It's in a threaded assembly), but I think it's glued in place.
Others have complained about issues with it not lighting properly/the button slipping out of place. 1) Use good batteries! I used Rayovacs, and they worked fine. If you're hardcore, use lithiums. My batteries gave me maybe 2 hours of strong light, which is pretty decent. If your button is funky, something probably got inserted slightly off during assembly. It's easy to fix, read the next section.
For the advanced user: (This is all by memory, but it'llbe close enough):
So, you want to increase the power? It's easy, but you're probably going to leave tool marks, and you have to be decent with small parts. The diode assembly was stamped with [...]on mine, so I guess we now know where it came from.
1. Unscrew the laser in the middle, and take out the batteries
2. Wrap something rubber around the silver tip, grab it with pliers, and twist it back and forth gently while pulling until it comes out.
3. There are four sections: The tip, a tube, the lens section, and the circuit board/diode assembly. Everything else past pulling out the tip unscrews from the other pieces. I tried everything I could to adjust the lens, but it wouldn't budge.
4. (This step I'm a little shady on- I can't remember if the laser diode was screwed into the tip somehow, or if it just sat in there. Just be gentle when removing the cap, and you'll be fine. The rest is easy to figure out). From the middle of the laser, take out the foam around the spring. Take a flat, blunt object, and slowly nudge/push the circuit board out the top. Make sure you don't lose the button!
5. Once you have the circuit board out, you'll notice a tiny variable resistor on the board. It has an indentation for a tiny screwdriver. If you can't find it, you probably shouldn't be trying to do this.
6. The brightest setting on mine was 1/4 turn clockwise, but you might have to play with yours a little more than that. Once again, if you can't find a way to make it light up outside of the housing, you probably shouldn't be doing this.
7. Once you have found your sweet spot, replace everything. When sliding the circuit board back in place (The trickiest part), make sure the button is aligned with it properly!
That's it! Although there are mods to capacitors/resistors you can do, it'll probably overheat the laser and damage the diode. This is the most I'd try to push it. Good luck, and enjoy!
Alright, I knew going into this that it wasn't going to be a 50mW laser. I WAS however, hoping to be able to pot-mod it up a bit, as a previous reviewer claims to've done. At the very least, I've always wanted a green laser, so I figured for the price of a cheap steak dinner, I couldn't go wrong. Well, I ended up with the worst-case scenario.
It's true, it is CERTAINLY NOT a 50mW laser, as advertised. Tuned? Maybe, and in my case that's a bad thing. Because when I cracked it open and went to tune it myself, I was out of luck. The potentiometer was already set almost precisely to the highest setting. I first experimented using the objective appearance of brightness, both in my overcast-daylit home and in a dark closet. Being disappointed that I couldn't crank it up any, I got out the digital multimeter to see if I could tune it up a little bit. Now, I'm no electrical engineer, so my testing methodology may be suspect, but I measured ~125mA draw from the batteries in use -- it's certainly pulling enough juice to *theoretically* put out 50mW. 125mA * ~2.4V (1.2 x 2 NiMH batteries - actually measured directly around 2.53V) = ~300mW. The rest of the equation is up to the efficiency of the circuit. Having seen that, I then tested the resistance of the potentiometer. It has three leads, one on the left, and two on the right. Measuring between the one on the left and the two on the right, I measured that the original setting was just a couple degrees away from minimum resistance. I suppose I could try bridging the pot, but I'm afraid I'd blow the laser diode or my batteries or both. Bottom line, without drastic modifications, this puppy's not getting anywhere NEAR 50mW.
So what is it? Objectively, I'd guess it's somewhere between 5 and 10mW. I'm basing that solely on my experience with 5mW red lasers, and the "rule" that green lasers appear 5x brighter to the human eye than red. It's MUCH brighter than any red laser I've ever had. In a dim room at night (with suburban light pollution filtering in the windows) I can see the beam if I really look for it. If I get nearly on the same axis, I can see it clearly, though not brightly. If I stare at its spot on the wall during the day, I get an afterimage burnt into my retina for a few minutes. I've heard claims that a 50mW green laser will light candles and matches and pop balloons. This will not. It will make a bright green spot on those objects and nothing more. Letting it run for 30sec or so does not generate any noticable heat from the head, and if I put the spot on my finger for that time, I feel nothing at all. This is definitely just a laser pointer, nothing "special." - Laser Pointer - 50mw - Green Laser Pointer - Laser'

Office Electronics - clip-on light, book light
the pin that holds the clip kept falling out, so i had to glue it then i taped it just to make sure it wouldnt fall out again, and the light base is big and bulky and doesnt fit well on my kindle without covering up part of the screen Kindle light Clip-On LED Book Light eReader Black Color Sony Kindle book lights for reading
I was excited to receive this book light for my Kindle. However, when I attempted to turn the light off it would not shut off. Apparently I have a malfunctioning light where I have to remove a battery in order for the light to turn off. This is quite an inconvenience. I should have returned it but did not want to go through the hassle of doing so..The light works great for the Kindle and is easy to maneuver..
This is a useless light. The cover does not even fit back on after the batteries are in it. It is big, clumsy, and there is nothing on it that signifies
Sony. I have to tape the batteries in to use it. A total waste of money.
Even though it is so cheap it is not worth the money. It will not clip on in a way that will not inhibit the use of screen. I am super disappointed, but since it would cost the same amount to return as the amount I would get back I am basically screwed.
Mine had glue all over it right out of the packaging. I wish I took a picture of it before I scraped it all off. This thing is not worth the money. It is badly built and very cheap. The head of it with the two LEDs in it swivels loosely. This is something you would buy at a dollar store not for 9 bucks. What a rip off.
I just got mine and have no problem with it. It is alot brighter then the other ones Ive tried and am very happy I got it. I just ordered two more and they arrived today earlier then I expected and real happy with them. Thanks
I love my kindle and thought this would be the ideal accessory for later in the day reading. I'm not sure where to clip it. The light isn't very bright and if you don't hold it by hand casts a glare that is distracting. When you adjust the neck that holds the light head, it doesn't stay in place. It's just a piece of junk. The only good thing about it is the price. - Led Book Light - Clip-on Light - Clip - Book Light'

Cotton Dresses - sundress, soybu
I put the dress on for the first time today and I noticed the seams joining the orange fabric and the gray on the front of the dress have come undone. I also noticed some some seam problems on the side of the dress. Due to the fact that I ordered the dress in early spring in preparation for the summer, I am unable to return the dress. I'm disappointed as I would have liked to think I simply received a faulty 'product' and not someone's 'seconds'. A replacement would be nice considering they are still available and my dress is still brand new. LOOPTWORKS Women's Manasar Dress, Gray, Large - Soybu - Sundresses - Tube Dress - Sundress'

Hooded Towel - hooded towel, hooded towels
This towel is super cute, very soft and absorbent. It's also a good size for my 13 month old since he has outgrown the infant hooded towels he has. The only thing that is semi-negative about it is that when you wash the towel, the monkey's hands and ears curl up. But that's not a deal breaker -- it's still a great quality towel and worth buying. Highly Recommended - alarm clock, aluratek
Think about the humble clock-radio. Everybody has one. They've scarcely changed in the last two decades. They have poor sound quality. Are usually in a bedroom where radio reception can be poor--and are usually given only a crummy wire antenna sticking out the back. With some, you can play a CD, just as CDs are being superseded by other digital music. Few can access the wealth of programming on satellite. Not a twenty-first century device.
This device brings the clock-radio into the 21st Century. It connects to your Wi-fi at home, and delivers almost any radio station you want from around the world.
NPR junkies can choose from a brace of stations, and the worldwide selection is superb--let me recommend Radio National and Directions in Groove from Australia, KQED and WNYC (the AM version; you'll get AM radio in hi-fi!), Deutsche Welle in English, Radio Netherlands, and of course, the BBC. Living in a non-English-speaking country, it's a real life-line for me.
It solves an issue that has vexed me with conventional clock radios I've owned. Reception problems. With an internet radio, the signal is as strong as your home wi-fi.
No need for an integrated CD. You can play music wirelessly from your computer or a USB stick.
And for a small speaker, the sound is remarkably good. You can plug it into your hi-fi if you wish, for even better sound.
It gets five stars, but not without a couple of glitches. The radio updates the station list automatically, but if a station changes its website in between software updates, you might miss out for a while. The menus are elaborate and can be a bit complex until you get used to them--and that includes the one you use simply to turn the alarm on. And the backlighted time displays ONLY when the radio is actually on; though I expect that glitch to be fixed in a software update. Aluratek AIRMM01 Internet Radio Alarm Clock with built-in WiFi (Black)
***EDIT*** Yes, the web site now lets you add your own URLs to this radio. I prefer the Logitech Squeezebox now, however.
It has good sound that is punchy and decent. It's better than my clock radio. The hardware is superb and very functional for a bedside nighttable. The problem is the software. This excellent radio could be so much better if it weren't for the odd user interface mistakes and amazingly bad Vtuner software.
First for the interface. The backlight is extremely bright--a firmware update allows it to automatically turn off in 1, 3, or 5 minutes--each of which is too long. The remote control often stops working when you're punching buttons quickly, like the older TiVos. The interface doesn't make it clear that the system is busy downloading something and does not respond for a time (sometimes the hourglass appears, sometimes it doesn't). Takes a few too many 'clicks' to get to what you want. When you hit the 'power' button it doesn't start playing music automatically--you have to drill down through the menus again.
[EDIT: Yes, this problem has been mitigated, but I am leaving it in for posterity.] It is impossible to add stations yourself!! I am not kidding. You really can't. This is a major, horrible flaw that I didn't appreciate. There is no user customizable feature on their web site to add a station, just a "suggestion" that it be added to the public Vtuner list. If you subscribe to premium audio services like DI.FM and SKY.FM, it is utterly impossible to sign in to those services, even though the service is completely standards-based and works on just about every player imaginable. It is not possible to input a URL into this unit. I am flabbergasted at this glaring mistake.
Oddly enough, I had to download the updated firmware from Aluratek to get the radio to work at all on a completely standard 802.11g secured network.
The sound is very good and I really like it. The software needs to be replaced with something better. It seems the software was designed to play your local media on your local network through the uPnP media center arrangement and the radio feature was grafted on later.
I tolerate the commercials on DI.FM and SKY.FM but wish I could log into my premium account. I'm getting a Reciva-based receiver to replace this one. This Vtuner-based receiver is just bad news for premium radio subscribers.
***EDIT*** There is a feature added recently since I wrote the review that allows you to add your own URLs on the Aluratek web site. It requires firmware updates (which requires a USB jump drive) to expose your VTuner ID number. This is a great feature addition and I am glad it was finally implemented. I still think it should have been added originally, because I like my Digitally Imported Premium subscription channels much better than the free versions of those channels.
***EDIT*** I have replaced this with the similarly-sized Logitech Squeezebox which has built-in support for paid-subscription audio sites like Digitally Imported and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Well built, outstanding feature set, works well, extremely easy setup, easy to use, this baby is the "swiss army knife" of internet radios!
Yes the display is bright and not the best I've ever seen - but who cares? For the price paid it is more than sufficient. The alarm clock feature is nice but no one is buying this solely for that reason.
What other internet radio works this well, is this easy to setup, and has a comparable feature set? Let's see, it plays 13,000+ internet radio stations. Check. You can add new stations via (...) web site (and also easily browse and create your own named "favorites" categories that will then be added to your list on the radio), you can easily add or remove stations to/from your "Favorites" list on the radio itself, speaker is OK (like a radio) but you also have analog stereo outputs you can connect to powered speakers or stereo or whatever (and sound is good, no noise or hiss), it has an FM radio that will display HD info if stations transmit it, it will play your MP3's from your USB key or hard drive, it will play media for any PC or laptop on your network via WMP 11, MusicMatch Jukebox, or many other media servers (like twonky), comes with a decent remote, and it cost about as much as a good MP3 player?
I can't believe how tough some people here are with their ratings. I gave it 5 stars just to compensate for them. I would have given it 4 because there is room for improvement, but then, for this price, and with this feature set, 5 stars is warranted. Plus - and it's a big plus! Everything works as advertised without any frustrating setup gymnastics. I took this thing out of the box, set the manual aside (yes, it actually has a printed manual!), put the quick start guide aside, screwed on the Wifi antenna in the back, plugged in the FM antenna in the back, put batteries in the remote, plugged the power supply into the radio (always connect to the device first!), plugged the power supply into the wall and turned it on. Walked through the brief wifi setup accepting all the defaults and started listening to internet radio. Truly that easy.
Went into Windows Media Player 11 on my laptop and brought up the new device dialog and click to allow the aluratek to connect. Went back to the aluratek and selected the media player option on the remote, waited for it to connect and display a list, did search by artist and played some songs. (You do have to enable access via your firewall if you have one running on your laptop or PC.) Pretty easy.
Plugged in a USB key and played some MP3's - pretty easy.
So...out of the box and with little fuss, I can listen to internet radio, play mp3's off my home network PC's or laptops, play mp3's off my mp3 player or USB key (also USB hard drive but I have not tested that yet), local FM radio stations, oh, and yeah, it also has an alarm clock built in that can wake you to any of these as well. Like I will ever use that! ;) (Yes, I know some will, and I may one day, it's just that it is the least important feature, to my mind. Go price internet radios -- most have nowhere near the feature set of this unit. Oh, did I mention it can also serve as a wireless access point on your network?)
The remote it comes with is decent and works fairly well. It has buttons for all the functions and a nice layout. It has a pretty good written manual and a CD with more info that I have not even looked at yet. It is well built and well designed. The menus are easy enough to use. And the device works well. The display is legible. It could be better, but look at what you paid for the device and lighten up! ;)
I run the audio through various external speakers and devices and it all sounds good. It actually looks better than the picture, I think. It is a bit unique and may not thrill everyone, but I like it fine, and again, look at the price. It is decent quality and that's what counts. (Actually, it's kind of 40-50's retro if you're into that.)
This has to be the best value in internet radio devices to date. I have three Soundbridge units and I love them to death - they are superb, but they cost substantially more (they're really a different type of device, IMHO). Most other inet radios are more expensive and have fewer features.
I'm not even going to bother with nit picking. Others here have done that well. There are no significant cons, in my opinion, when you consider the price, performance, and features.
If you are looking for a relatively low cost, easy to setup and use internet radio and audio media player, you can't go wrong with this unit. It's an outstanding value and works well. Thumbs up!
2010-02-20 Update: If you have a problem with the FM Radio turning off intermittently on this unit, there is a fix. Go to the Aluratek web site and download the latest firmware, put it on a USB drive (in the root directory, drive must be FAT32 not NTFS), go to set-up, advanced, firmware update and it will load the new software. Voila, problem solved. This is the only serious issue I have had with this unit. Thanks to another reviewer here for posting this fix, it worked!
Also, if your WiFI occasionally says it failed when getting the IP address (when you turn power on), I've found that you can just go ahead and navigate to your internet radio station and it will usually connect fine. Weird, but once connected it never drops the signal (for me, anyway). Use this device a lot and it works well.
2010-11-30 Update: Still using mine and it works as well as ever. It started acting a big sluggish recently, but when I unplugged it and then plugged it back in, it came up and is back to its snappy self again. Prices have dropped a little bit making these an even better value. There's a lot more competition now, but this little device is a classic and still has one of the best feature sets around. - Wifi Radio - Alarm Clock - Aluratek - Clock Radio'

Cell Phone Car Charger - motorola, car charger
First things first: IF (and that's IF) you get the genuine OEM Motorola charger listed here, the SPN5400/P513/89143N, it works great with modern smart phones like the Motorola Droid, The Incredible, The Google Nexus One, etc. Basically, if your phone has a micro USB connector (and almost all of the newer generation smart phones do), then this is the charger for you.
That said: Not every seller is selling the right item. There are lots of reports of people getting the wrong charger (I've had this happen myself). Your best bet: Amazon, who not only IS selling the correct charger, but has the best price, when you factor in shipping, provided you qualify for free shipping from Amazon (either with Prime, or if your order is > $25).
The Amazon-as-seller listing for this charger can be found here, at least at the time of this review. Search through the sellers to find Amazon. Their price, if you get free shipping from Amazon, is the cheapest, or close to it. And you are guaranteed of getting the correct item, brand new, retail.
OK, that said, here's the rest of my review:
There are so many sketchy sellers selling phone chargers out there, that it can be a bit scary. The problem is that if the charger is poorly made, the output of the charger can be out of spec and can, in some cases, fry the phone you connect to it.
For that reason, when it comes to phone chargers, you should stick to name brands. (They are all made in China, but the name brand ones are usually subject to stricter QA).
When I found this charger on Amazon, SOLD BY AMAZON, I jumped on it. It's a MICRO USB car charger, made for Motorola and sold under the Motorola name, in retail packaging. The rated output is 4.75-5.25V and 950mA.
This charger should work fine with most any phone that uses the MICRO USB connector. The key number to pay attention to is the second one, the rated amperage. This is the MAXIMUM amount of current that the phone can request from the charger. A typical USB port on a PC provides as little as 100mA, and few provide more than 500mA. So this charger should charge your phone faster than when it's connected to a PC. A few phones out now can use up to 1000mA. But that just means they CAN use that amount. If 950mA is provided, they'll still charge, just a bit more slowly.
Note that the amperage (second number) merely tells you how much the charger CAN supply, if requested. The phone itself is responsible for asking for the current. That is to say, if this charger can provide 950mA, but your phone can only use 300mA--no problem. Your phone asks for 300mA and the charger provides all of what is requested. If, on the other hand, your phone can use 1000mA, this charger will provide all it can, which is 950mA--a wee bit less than the max asked for. That's also not a problem; it just means your phone will charge a little bit (not much in this case) more slowly. The rated voltage for this charger is presented in a range of 4.75-5.25V. The "ideal" voltage for a USB charger of any type if 5V. And most chargers for home use are rated right at 5V. But car chargers work in a noisier environment and thus you have the range. This is where a cheapo charger can really do damage, as some of them are poorly regulated and can provide voltages that are WAY out of spec. Again, when you can get a name brand charger from a seller you can trust (Amazon) for such a reasonable price, it's very foolish to consider the cheapo no-names.
This is an excellent quality name brand travel micro USB charger at a price that beats the no-name junk from third party sellers. What's not to like?
BE SURE TO ORDER IT FROM AMAZON AND NOT ONE OF THE THIRD PARTY SELLERS, as some of those have been known to make mistakes with respect to what they ship relative to the listing. I can confirm that Amazon is shipping the P513 /89143N /SPN5400 charger, as pictured.
One last note: This charger is alternatively sold as the P513, the 89143N OR the SPN5400. These numbers all refer to the same charger. A different product number is assigned depending on the channel through which the charger has been sold. But they are all the same. Toothbrush Sterilizer - toothbrush sterilizer, sanitizer
I really like the premise behind these units, and I have already owned 4 of them. The problem is, though, they are not built to withstand the high heat generated. The plastic toothbrush holders will actually melt off and crack over time from the heat. The bottom of the unit will develop leaks. Also, regardless of how well you clean your toothbrush, there is still toothpaste residue on it, and this will cause a powdery build up in the unit that is difficult and time consuming to remove.
We use only distilled water in ours and clean regularly but still can't seem to get more than a year out of it. One lasted around eight months. The warranty is only 90 days, so it's essentially useless. We keep buying, though, because until its inevitable demise it does sterilize the brushes and keep them dry and covered, and there's nothing better out there. Consider the money spent on it an annual expense. The UV ones have their own issues, and the ozone generating ones are usually built cheaply as well. Germ Terminator Toothbrush Sanitizer
I have had my Germ Terminator for 2 years and I can't imagin life without it. I am in the health care field and know the importance of preventing microbial contamination whenever possible. Even though it is not considered portable, I travel a great deal and never leave home without it tucked away in my suitcase. It does require a small effort to clean, but small is the operative word. Anyone who cares about keeping themselves and their families healthy would do well to keep a Germ Terminator in every bathroom. Also, you can sterilize other items that will fit in the basket and are not harmed by steam. I routinely sterilize the end of my Water Pik and other assorted dental hygine items before each use. Also, pierced earring that are all metal. I find it indispensable.
This one really works. I used to get sore throats when using a non-sterilized toothbrush. Used to re-infect myself with colds and bacterial infections. For longest time, had multiple (20-30) toothbrushes and sterilized in top rack basket in dishwasher with water heater on high temp. That worked but time consuming.
Now use Germ Terminator -- just as effective but takes less time and less water and less energy. For best results, use distilled water, but you can use tap too. If you use tap regularly you will need to watch for calcium build up like in coffee maker and run vinegar through it to get rid of calcium build up. I am able to sterilize my Braun electric toothbrush heads (which cost $10 each!) in this unit too besides regular toothbrushes. They fit in the little baskets.
This unit is very light so it will be good for traveling even though footprint not as small as UV travel sanitizers.
I love my steam sterilizer. I am going to buy a second one for traveling.
Why should you buy this unit instead of UV light sterilizer/sanitizer?
Most toothbrush sterilizers are UV light based. I did research on steam versus UV sterilization:
UV light is non-ionizing radiation. Good for destroying airborne organisms and organisms on exposed surfaces that UV light makes contact with. UV light has low penetrating power. Dust, soil, anything that shields organism from UV light will protect micro organism from sterilization. Must keep UV light bulb very clean (dust/soil on UV light will reduce effectiveness). Must regularly test UV light because they lose power to sterilize over time. Sterilization percentage for UV light: 99.95%. Sterilization percentage for Germ Terminator (tested results): 99.999999%
UV light causes sunburns. Think about how a hat or shirt or glass window will protect you from sunburns. UV cannot penetrate these.
For medical/dental tools, doctors use autoclaves which are steam based.
Don't leave home without your Germ Terminator!
There's nothing like grabbing a warm totally sanitized toothbrush. I have used this for years after I saw the inventor on 20/20 I had to try it out. It works great! Its like using a new toothbrush everyday. Well worth it.
After researching a bit, I decided to buy the Germ Terminator instead of some of the sleeker looking UV toothbrush sanitizers. The official stance of the American Dental Association is that those interested in a toothbrush santizer should purchase one that is FDA approved. None of the UV models were, but the Germ Terminator is an approved FDA medical device! Apparently, UV rays don't work well for sanitizing toothbrushes, but rather on flat surfaces. Anyway, the unit is fast and easy to use. I also like that it stores the toothbrushes in a sanitary space until they're next used. I only wish that it held more than two toothbrushes and came in other colors.
I was attracted to this product as their TV ad said there was a relationship between the lack of a sterile toothbrush and increased risk for strokes. Later, I found the claim verified from other unrelated sources dealing with health.
I've been using it for about three years and love it. Why? Because it makes my mouth feel so much cleaner. It is noticeable from the first use. It is so pleasurable. Also, my teeth became whiter.
It lasts about a year to a year and a half. I use distilled water, but rinse my brush off with tap water. Our water has a lot of mineral content, so your sanitizer might last much longer.
It is dead when the red light stops going on, it is slow to intake water, and your teeth don't feel as clean. When I get a new one, I'll try running vinegar through it, as another reviewer suggested, to see if it lasts longer.
Since I wrote this review, I have discovered that one can make the sanitizer last longer by bypassing pouring the water into the hole under the small plastic cup by squirting the water directly under the toothbrushes. Of course, I don't actually know if this method gets the brushes as clean, but lots of steam comes up just as before. - Toothbrush Sterilizer - Steam Sterilization - Oral Hygiene - Sanitizer'

Memory Card Adapters - cell phone memory, micro sdhc
This 8 GB micro SD card is excellent. Not much else you can say. I paid for the item, it shipped and I got it. It works on my Sansa Fuze 8 GB MP3 Player and now I have 16 GB total. It comes with a standard SD-Card adapter so you can plug it into a camera or laptop, etc.
The price was right but the shipping was insane to Canada for an item that weighs less than 1 lb with packing material . That is my only complaint and that is on the side of the seller.
Thank you! SanDisk microSDHC 8GB Card with SD Adapter (SDSDQ-8192)
At first it didn't work in my Blackberry 8320 but after a little research I realized that I just needed to update the software to the newer version which supports cards up to 32Gb.
I wanted the card to hold music and photo's and it has done a prefect job. For $21 delivered you cannot go wrong.
I read a lot of reviews about items that come listed as "Bulk Package" and I have to say that so far I have no complaints.
First of all, the brand is SanDisk which is very well known. It's not something that's never been heard of. It's 8GB and has an adapter. How can you really go wrong? This item is so versatile.
I'm using mine in my Blackberry and even though it reads it as only a 4GB, I haven't had any problems. I have been told that this happens a lot in phones. They see it only as a certain amount that the company has 'maxed' on the device (probably because an 8GB didn't exist when it was manufactured), but I've loaded all kinds of photos and music onto it and have had no problems. If all else fails, I know that I can load the micro card into the adapter and use it in my camera. So, really...it's a win-win situation no matter what.
Definitely a good buy.
Gotta love how technology doubles every couple of years. These things just keep getting smaller, faster, higher capcity. Not to mention the cost has come down a lot on all this flash memory stuff. Why get a gig card when you can have eight?! It's cheap! Go ahead, you know you want to.
this was the best deal ive got in awhile! my phone company (starts with A and ends with T) wanted $54.00 for this card and adapter! it is the same brand and same model number. shame on them and good for amazon for charging reasonable rates. card works great in my samsung impression, and adapter works with my dell and hp computers.
I recently purchased this card for my Samsung Behold. It has worked really well and I have had no problems so far. The 8gb has been enough space for my music, photos, and videos. And the adapter was a nice bonus making it easy to swap files between my phone and laptop.
It's a great deal and works well in my Sansa Fuze. Holds like 80 hours of music at high quality. The adpator is handy too.
Might not be the fastest (speed rating is 2) but for my need it's fine and was one of the cheapest I could find. It arrived in 4 days
The card I received was a pretty blatant fake. Even if I didn't have a real sandisk 4gb microsd card to compare it to the bad ink job on the face of the card (some numbers/letters are incomplete) and the incorrect labeling of the size are pretty good indicators. For what it's worth, the card I received was actually 8 gb, but it reads so slowly I can barely get things to recognize it half the time, even after formatting it. If you just need a card to hold data for storage and don't care at all about potential read speed problems, this is probably a decent deal for you, otherwise I'd recommend you steer clear.
The product was shipped quickly and I received it promptly too but it wasn't the same as advertised. Instead of a sandisk micro sd card I got a hitachi card. The add on adapter was of very cheap quality too. - Micro Sdhc - Micro Sd - 8gb Sdhc - Cell Phone Memory'

Ink Jet Printer Cartridges - printer ink, canon
The price per print of ink jet printers is simply expensive, especially when you consider the fact that the process is probably not even close to being archival quality. Yet for most they will suffice. It is commonly believed that if you want archival you should either use silver emmulsion (what you will get if you have your prints traditionally developed by a photo lab - even a one hour lab) or dye sublimation. All that being said, this ink and the printers they go into do a very good job. I've been very impressed. I don't think there is a huge difference over the last generation, but if you want the newer printers you have to make the switch to the newer ink. Good news is that it works with the current crop of paper.
What is great about this ink cartdridge is that in the canon printers it is the cartridge mostly used for black print, while the other black cartridge is used for photo prints. This keeps your cost of printing regular text a little cheaper.
Buying on Amazon isn't much cheaper than other options, but if you are signed up for Amazon Prime, it is increadibly easy to buy them and have them delievered very quickly (two days). Canon PGI-5 BK 2-Pack Pigment Black Ink Tanks 0628B009
I've tried generic and refilled brands and I'll never do that again. I print a lot of photos and CD/DVDs and there is a huge difference in quality from the real thing and the generic. The per page price isn't that bad and I use a lot of ink. The originals go far and is worth the extra cost.
Everytime I've purchased any Canon ink cartridge, and I've purchased well over a hundred bargain brand's and Canon's, I've been extremely pleased with:
o no clogging,
o quality print,
o page count per cartridge printing,
o every cartridge printing when installed
The only negative would be their high pricing, but I guess it proves the old axiom "you get what you pay for".
After souring on Epson printers (C.R.A.P.), I love both of my Canons. They're not ink hogs (could be better though) and the heads aren't clogging up once a month. Here is a great deal for two cartridges at not much more than the usual cost of one. Color me impressed.
Why make a trip to the store? You can get these cartridges delivered to your door in a few days for less than you will find them at your local discount store. They are genuine Canon products. Don't take the chance of gumming up your printer with substitutes.
I am a student and with my Canon Pixma MP600 used 3 reams of paper before I had to replace one of these black ink cartridges. I am happy with that. Amazon has the best price on these, plus no sales tax and free shipping.
Good product.....but....I hate the fact that Canon charges so much for these tanks and has made it impossible for 3rd parties to provide OEM tanks. Do you realize how much they are charging for a gallon of ink!?! Around $1500! A good gallon of ink runs around $100. Thanks for Amazon for selling to us at a discount which is less than you can get locally.
I am thrilled with my buy. I have looked all over and found my best deal at Amazon.com much to my surprise. I have ordered ALL my colors from here and will continue to do so. Ebay offers refilled cartridges without the chip needed and say for YOU to replace them with your old ones, well why take the chance of screwing up your printer...spring for the REAL ones that are COMPLETE. Best buy....Amazon. - Canon - Printer Ink - Ink Cartridge - Canon Black Ink'

Monster Cable - thx, audio cables
I bought this to replace the cheap cable that came with my 140W sub-woofer. Yes, it made a difference, especially when I crank the volume. I used "Iron Man" the seen with the Jericho bomb exploding, and felt like my clothes was flapping from the sonic boom as opposed to a loud sound with the original cable. The price from Amazon was absolutely unbelievable! Just look at BestBuy and them come back to Amazon to make your purchase! Monster Standard THX-Certified Subwoofer Interconnect Cable (16 Ft)
I received this Subwoofer Interconnect Cable yesterday and installed it right away. The 12 foot length is great; I can virtually place my sub anywhere I want. The cable itself is nice and thick and feels sturdy, unlike the cheap cable I use to have. I am not a "Monster" brand fan because their wires are usually way over priced, but I got this thing for about 1/4 what it costs at Best Buy or Circuit City. Given the price and the quality, this was a good deal.
I own a Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Monitor Series Powered Subwoofer (Single, Black), which for some reason has left- and right-channel RCA inputs, while my Pioneer VSX-819H-K 5-Channel A/V Receiver (Black) has a mono output for the LFE channel. After buying the sub, I could picture the mono male to stereo male RCA cable that I needed, but none of the blue-shirted associates from a certain nameless Big Box store knew what I meant. I finally got the cable from "AdioShackRay", and got good sound quality until I did further research.
I read that a regular one-channel RCA interconnect would suffice, since the sub is a mono speaker. Also intending to move my sub to a new location, I searched Amazon as a new "Prime" member for a highly rated, brand name subwoofer cable that was around 15 feet. I found exactly what I was looking for with this cable. THX Certification was a bonus. I might be crazy, but I think I did notice a newfound crispness to the sound.
The connection is firm on both ends. Nice and tight. I did not notice any "stiffness" of the cable. Nothing out of the ordinary, or noteworthy. Just a regular cable. Granted it's double-shielded or whatever, but it's not a steel rod.
Two-day shipping was spot on. The box was even wrapped in plastic, presumably to preserve it if left outside during the rain. Great job Amazon! Opening the product was also very simple. Monster's packaging was perforated. I didn't have to fight against the typically impenetrable plastic casement. Definitely well-thought out.
Hopefully, with Amazon's help, I can afford to buy Monster again.
I don't really hear the difference between this and my dish network A/V cable. Maybe it's just my setup.
All i can say is it works, feels like quality material, the connectors fit snug on my sub and receiver, and it's nice and long!
Definitely buy!
If interested my setup is:
Receiver: Sony STR-DN1010
Subwoofer: Energy ESW-8HG (double subs)
Speakers: Klipsch HD 500 (satellites only)
Ok, so you have this nice and thick cable............that goes back to 24 or smaller gauge, no difference, your just paying for the name, I am a professional concert sound engineer, trust me when i tell you. Monster is overpriced, over hyped, cable. A home theater test was done about 2 years ago, with ordinary people, and 2 systems, the people were asked to decide which one sounded better, system 1 ( wired with monster cable) or system 2 ( wired without monster cable) most couldn't tell any difference. system 2 was picked by some, as well as system 1, the difference?........Ready?............ system 2 was wired with Coat hanger ends for RCA plugs with a wire soldered on the end ( and yes with a floating Ground/common) again if you missed that: COAT HANGER ends!!. So to all you good people out there, don't waste your hard earned money on this stuff ( remember: it goes back, and is sent from 24 or smaller gauge wire any way in side your components or stage snake/sound board.)
I've got a bunch of RCA dual and component cables laying around; but, hate to have the unused jacks hanging off the back of both receiver and subwoofer. Aesthetics aside, I suppose that the other jacks could introduce some line interference and noise. Bottom line, this cable is designed specifically for the purpose, with solid cable gauge, perfectly fitting RCA jacks and proper consideration given to the placement of a subwoofer (nice long cable run). Given the long run, this single cable is also easier to run / hide along the wall than a typical RCA dual or component.
I needed a longer cable to place my sub further from my receiver.
This is a higher quality and more heavily shielded cable than I previously used, but there isn't a real difference in sound since I wasn't getting interference before.
This is definitely a better deal for this cable than in big box stores. The sound quality is good and it is well enough shielded that it wouldn't make much sense to pay more for a cable of the same length.
However, recognize it isn't as flexible as less shielded cables.
You can probably pay a few bucks less for a cable of the same length and not notice any difference between the two. If the difference in price is less than 5 bucks it seems to make sense to get the better cable to avoid any possible interference in the future. If the price difference is more than that you're probably fine with the cheaper one. - Audio Cables - Sub Cord - Thx - Monster Cable'
