Convertible Pants - convertible pants, bicycle accessories
I was looking for lightweight pants that could be converted into shorts, that i could wear over my skimpy running shorts while traveling on mass transit. These are just about as perfect as i could have hoped for. Fit well, look good, and weigh next to nothing, which is important when i strap them on to the back of my hydration pack, and set off for a couple hours of running. I can use them as pants in cooler weather, and shorts in the summer. They run long, but i have long legs, just cuffed up the bottoms. The only thing i would change is that i need to wear a belt with them- i would prefer if they had a drawstring, or built-in lightweight belt. That minor quibble aside, these are about as ideal as i could've hoped to find. Columbia Men's Crested Butte Convertible Pant, Tusk, Lx30 - Hiking Pants - Bicycle Accessories - Convertible Pants'

19th Century Britlit Classics - 19th century britlit classics, period romance
I cannot say enough good things about this film. As a movie buff and English teacher I can honestly say that this is the finest film adaptation of any classic novel ever made. The screenplay is remarkably faithful, the costuming and settings are breathtaking, and the casting presents the strongest and most consistent ensemble I have ever witnessed. All this coming from someone who has never seen a good film version of any novel to the extent that I no longer thought it possible. Ladies beware, Colin Firth as the definitive Darcy will make you swoon. Jennifer Ehle, as Lizzy, has stolen my heart. Please don't tell my wife but I have never been so deeply in love with any actress. Her inspired interpretation of Elizabeth Bennet does Austen's brilliant satire great credit. No one has ever rendered Austen's sardonic character studies more vividly than Simon Langton's production. Persuasion was wonderful, Sense and Sensibility was remarkable, but this rendition of Austen is absolutely sublime. Without a doubt one of the best things I have ever seen on the silver screen. An absolute MUST for all Jane Austen fans. Pride and Prejudice (Restored Edition)
The current BluRay (BD) edition is fantastic - it is the "Extra Special Edition". Beautiful color and sound have been restored compared to the DVD edition that I initially reviewed in 2002 (below). There's pretty much nothing about my original review that is relevant any longer, unless someone is going to buy a second-hand copy of the 1996 Special Edition set. We still love the production, and give the BD version 5 stars.
I would not have thought that anyone would still be reading the 9 year old review below except for all of the comments ... apparently Amazon has cross-linked the reviews of all editions of this film, making this the 'most helpful critical review'. For those who said that I copied the review - not true. I reviewed a single product, back when we did not even have names attached to our reviews. (My amazon review ID now is "Karl".)
Do buy the BD release - it is wonderful. Five stars. (The 3 stars are not editable and refer to the 1996 release.)

------------------------------
The original 2002 review of the 1996 Special Edition DVD set follows...
This BBC/A&E production is one of the most well made films my wife and I have ever seen - superb acting, costumes, sets and location, music, directing, editing!! Like others here, we have watched the A&E VHS edition over and over. (It is a 'chick flick', but I enjoy romantic movies, too.)
Our excitement over getting the DVD faded upon loading both the VHS tape and DVD and comparing the images and sound. The widescreen image on the DVD is definitely more clear on our 50" high res screen, and it is a pleasure to see the full images framed as the Director intended.
HOWEVER, the colors are not just washed out. The digital remastering has changed the color tone of the film as if someone used a Photoshop/Premier digital filter without knowing what they were doing. The VHS and original not only had rich color saturation, but also had a warm tone that felt 'right' with the period film. The DVD is not only washed out, but has a strong blue-white tone to it that gives a cold modern feel to the scenes.
To get the image to look close to decent on our TV, I had to turn the color saturation up as far as it would go, bring the contrast down and the brightness up. It then almost matched the VHS images except for the blue-ish rather than warm overall cast.
The sound is tinny, much of the lower frequencies that are on the VHS sound track being chopped off.
There are no subtitles at all (we frequently turn them on for other DVDs when we cannot quite make out the dialog) - much less alternative language tracks.
So, why is this edition 'Special'? The only additions, other than the abysmal digital remastering (digital destruction) are:
(1) an 8-page booklet (that mentions only 3 of the actors)
(2) some text-only biography screens, that mention only 2 of the actors
(3) a 20-some minute 'making of' feature that gives the producer most of the credit (and she did of course put the team together, but the director/editor/actors/choreographer/costumers/etc produced the art) - and which still only visits with 4 of the actors - out of this tremendously talented cast.
What was supposed to be a 'special' Christmas gift, ended up being a tremendous disappointment. We can only hope that A&E and BBC will produce an 'Extra Special' edition that gets the color and sound back to the director's intention (did he even get to review this DVD?). That, and a rebate for all of us who bought this defective edition, would make us happy enough. Adding subtitles, profiles of everyone else involved in the production, and stills of the various homes, heritage buildings and towns used would be (delicious, but optional) gravy.
This A&E/BBC miniseries is a true masterpiece, bringing Jane Austen's most popular novel to life in a near perfect production. It has everything: authentic Regency Period atmosphere, costumes, settings, a beautiful musical score, excellent performances by a well-chosen cast. Andrew Davis's script does full justice to Austen's original. Colin Firth is excellent as Mr. Darcy, but Jennifer Ehle just takes my breath away with her magnificent performance, which catches every nuance of Elizabeth Bennet's character exactly right in every scene. It is a pleasure to watch all 4 1/2 hours straight through again and again. As a longtime devoted admirer of Jane Austen's works, I am very critical of any movies based upon her novels, but this has to be one of the very best adaptations of any major literary work.
I am a huge lover of Pride and Prejudice. I lost track of how many times I've seen the VHS version (I taped it off of A&E and then bought the tape set). It is a superb production; the acting, production, screen play and scenery are fantastic. The problem with the VHS versions is that the one taped from A&E has a lot of the scenes cut out, and the box set keeps you switching tapes and fastforwarding through the commercials every 50 minutes. The DVD is much more convenient and even includes extra scenes (more like extra lines to a few scenes, something only a huge fan would notice). It is true that the DVD contains no subtitles, which is a big disappointment, because there is a line or two where I never could figure out what is being said. I didn't notice the sound difficulties pointed out in other reviews, but the color is washed out. I had to adjust the "picture mode" on my television and it's still faded somehow. The DVD extras are nothing special, and I was disappointed not to find any interviews with the main characters (I wanted to see how they look "normally.") In spite of these small problems with the DVD, I highly recommend it for all P&P lovers. The convenience of only having to get up once (and you probably don't watch the whole thing in one sitting anyway) plus the 5 minutes or so of extra footage make this DVD a must. Factor in that it is actually cheaper than the VHS set, and there's no question. Simply adjust the settings on your television before watching, and settle in to 2 hours and fifty minutes of continuous Jane Austen. - Colin Firth - Period Romance - Jane Austen - 19th Century Britlit Classics'

Harbinger 155 Glove
These are solid lifting gloves. Anti-microbial works well; no smell. I've washed them twice over the past 4 months, as they do eventually start to smell (naturally). I lift hard and heavy and they've withstood the torture. There's not a lot of padding, which is what I wanted (it offers better and more accurate grips).
I'd buy another pair for sure. Harbinger Mens Anti-Microbial FlexFit Weight Lifting Gloves, Small
I like Harbinger but this particular glove has a bad design. I never thought gloves could increase discomfort. It seems to me that it would be really hard to do because you have a piece of cloth that protects your hand but somehow Harbinger figured out a way to make it feel worse. The stitching on the inside of the glove near the thumb and the index finger has so much extra loose fabric that sometimes when I do my heaviest lifting, normally on an incline bench, it pinches the skin between my thumb and finger which is extremely painful. It totally caught me off guard the first time and I almost dropped the weights. Even the cheap disposable gloves I bought at walmart were more comfortable. I should mention I also own the Harbinger 143 Men's Pro FlexClosure Wash & Dry Gloves which are cheaper and much more comfortable. It might be that the 143's have extra padding. Maybe these thin gloves are great for people who don't lift allot or other types of workouts that don't involve an incline bench or maybe mine has bad stitching? I'm not an expert but I do know they hurt my hand when I use them.
i had other weight lifting gloves that got really smelly from my sweaty palms, this one does not smell even after using them a few times without washing them ,oh yeah and they wash great in the washing machine ,best gloves ever!!!
My first Gym Gloves and they are great. I order XL by looking at the chart and they fit perfectly.
True to the word, They don't stink.
Great build quality and Grip.
I checked a lot of reviews for this and other similar gloves and decided to go with these. I'm glad I did.
Review on this site also helped my decision:

Stay Fit!! Stay Alive!!
bravo amazon!... i needed some reliably weightlifting gloves, so i took a chance on these because of the reviews. im glad i did! these lightweight gloves caught me by surprise. there is no bulky padding, but you still get no soreness in your palm after extensive use. the sizing is liberal, which is good, xxl means xxl. a lot of the gloves run to small. guess what? they still smell fresh after 2 weeks in my gym bag...excellent! when you put these on , you'll wonder how they will prevent callouses, great technology!.....bravo harbinger!
These are great gloves. The fingers aren't too long, and the padding isn't too thick. Not really much else to say about them. If it helps i like them enough to buy another pair when i wear this pair out.'

Birthday Gift Idea - childrens camera, toddler camera
I bought this camera for my son's 4th birthday and he totally loved it. It is very sturdy made and kid proofed like they say, but the photo quality is really bad... I mean, you rarely get a sharp picture from this camera. I know that my son has a hard time trying to keep it steady before he shoots but I tried taking pictures myself and really weren't much different... However, he really likes it and has lots of fun playing with it regardless... so I guess it was worth it after all. Would I recommend this?, ummm, no, not really... Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Digital Camera (Blue)
I ordered this camera as a birthday present for my four year old son. He learned how to use it very easily and it's easy for him to hold. He loves it! He loves taking photos of everybody and everything. It's very durable. It was easy to hook up to the computer. It didn't come with the connecting cord, but I had one that worked perfectly. You have to download the software from their website, but that was easy enough to do as well.
We received this camera for my son when he was 3 and have had it for a year. He loves it. He drops it. His baby sister loves it. She drops it. The thing still works. Great gift for a little one who is always trying to take your camera! I am surprised people said theirs broke, ours has been through a lot and is still kicking. I am ordering one for my neice today!
Got this just before a vacation. Son is 7 and has special needs-- motor delays and sensory issues. He LOVED this. In the space of a week, he took over 700 pictures. (Granted, some of them were of his own shoes and air conditioner vents, but that's his eye level, right?) Batteries held up fine. He is a major dropper and this thunked to the ground many many times. Still works fine. He had no trouble figuring it out, despite having the fine motor skills of a 3-year-old.
Haven't attempted to download the pictures yet-- want to edit down a bit! But from pictures at the airport, to pictures on the road to pictures at the tourist sites, this kept him occupied and engaged in a way he really enjoyed.
I don't write reviews often. I highly recommend this product.
My grandson would grab anything that looked like a camera so he could take photos "like Granny." I purchased this one for Max when he was 3; he is 4.5 now. The photos aren't great, but they satisfy his desire to take pictures. He LOVES it and uses it every time he sees "a photo event." We have downloaded his pictures many, many times, deleting all the blank or fuzzy ones (80% or so). He is so proud when he can see what he has shot. When I am around, we take pictures of everything. He has no trouble using the camera; and it just keeps on working despite its many drops and bangs. Even after bouncing down 18 steps and into the basement, it never missed a photo. Now the younger grandson is using it, too. This has be a terrific way to start my fellas off in the wonderful world of photography. When they are school age, I look forward to putting a better grade of camera into their hands. They will have mastered the basic skill of taking pictures and will be ready to begin to fine-hone their photography skills!
I bought this 2 years ago for my daughter's 3rd birthday. It was a huge hit - she took pictures of everything. It was easy for her to take pictures and then view them on the back of the camera and I could easily delete them for her. I think there is room for 100+ pictures and while the image quality on the screen bothered my husband a lot, my daughter didn't care.
Unfortunately after about 6 months we noticed some problems. We had to change batteries far more frequently. It wouldn't turn on in low light and eventually could only take pictures during the day. We've now completely changed out the batteries twice and the camera is completely dead. Considering what we paid for this, I'm not at all happy. And we weren't able to get the last set of pictures off the camera. Not that they were all that impressive, but my daughter still wanted to be able to see her pictures on the computer like an adult.
If I recall correctly, this device will not take rechargeable batteries. So not only was I tossing away mass quantities of AAA batteries, but I now have to throw away the whole camera.
This is the second Fisher Price (expensive) electronic to just die on me. The other was the MP3 player. I won't give them a 3rd chance.
I bought this for my 2.5 year old son and he LOVES it. He snaps pictures and he loves bragging about the pictures he takes but...... problem is, you can't tell what the picture is. The quality of the picture is so poor that even if I take a picture, holding completely still, you still can't tell what the picture was of.
Built really tough and love the idea BUT hate the pictures, even when you load them on the computer. Do yourself a favor and find a different camera or wait until the kiddo is a little older and can use a real camera.
We got this camera for our 5 year old boy, at first it looks nice and sturdy, but once turned on the quality of the pictures is awful, the color screen doesn't display full colors, instead is more like a sepia type of color. Very difficult to get a good shoot. Our son got very frustrated by the bad quality, we are returning this one and getting him a real digital camera for the same price.
I'm the family photographer so my son (three year old) love to imitate daddy by walking around snapping his own photos.
The quality of the images is rather poor. The camera is indestructible though and does provide the child with the basic functions that mommy or daddy's camera have. They can snap a photo, zoom in and out. Preview images with left and right arrows. They can even delete images. They really should include a cord but it works with both the cords (standard USB) that mommy and daddy both already have with their cameras. If you have a young rough and tumble child who has an interest in taking photos this is a good start. Though it should be considered more of a toy than a real camera. This camera will give them the experience they'll need before upgrading to something that is more camera than toy. When they are ready that is. I can't highly recommend it despite giving the 4 and five stars. It is durable, fun and is a useful educational toy for a budding young photographer. I'd give it 4 or five stars if the photos were better quality. Otherwise it's kind of an expensive toy. - Kids Digital Camera - Childrens Camera - Kids Camera - Toddler Camera'

Extended Warranty - kindle warranty, kindle
The cost for this warranty is way too high. It only covers an additional year after the manufacture warranty. I was able to get a 3 year warranty with accidental damage for 99.00 from Square Trade. I understand that Amazon wants to provide their customers with protection but they should think about partnering with another company. The Kindle is a great product and should have equal coverage. 2-Year Extended Warranty for Kindle DX (9.7 Display, Free 3G, Latest Generation), U.S. customers only
How? Buy your Kindle with your credit card (and keep the paperwork). Most credit cards offer to double the manufacturer's warrantee up to an extra year (Most Debit cards don't offer this). It's probably already included with your card. You get the same warrantee coverage as Amazon is offering, and it's free.
Check the fine print in the literature your credit card company sends you to be sure.
Got my 3 yr extended coverage warranty against drops and spills from square trade for $85. Buys me peace of mind and a lower price, for longer coverage. Reviews online indicate that the company is easy to use and prompt in service, so hopefully i'll never need it but if I do, I have a warranty
1) of course the warranty is only an additional one year beyond the 12 months warranty that comes with the Kindle purchase; 2)SquareTrade will provide a 3-year warranty for less than $40.00. Since, I purchased a Kindle for both my wife and myself, why would I pay an additional $218 when I can get 3-year coverage for less than $80.00? Ya know??
I read the warranty review and didn't believe the review. I called Kindle and asked about the 2 yr extended warranty. They said it extended the one year warranty to two years from date of purchase. I believe this to be misleading adverstiment. Knowing what I know now I would not have purchased the 2 kindle dx but would have purchased 2 Soney's. Their extended warranty should read 1 year extended warranty.
Jim
I got my THREE year warranty, with ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE from SquareTrade. I put the warranty to the test on the day my coverage started (I stepped on my brand new Kindle DX) and SquareTrade reimbursed me for a New Kindle DX. The coverage cost $89.
In short - you can do MUCH better for less.
This item should be part of the warranty considering the price of the Kindle whose lesser warranty is extended by this purchase. While you can search for a similar item elsewhere on the Internet, there is the good feeling that you are dealing with Amazon.com directly with this purchase. If anything should go wrong, the item will be repaired and/or replaced - it's as simple as that (note: it probably does not cover acts of war and other more extreme events). Is Amazon.com making a bunch of money on it? You can bet on that - this kind of warranty is not sold unless there is money to be made. Is it worth it to have peace of mind especially after researching the types of things that can happen? In my case yes - it makes a good purchase.
Bought my wife a Kindle for Christmas. She wanted the warranty "just in case." We are on vacation in Mexico and she just dropped hers on the tile floor. Broken screen. The replacement will be home before we are. Glad she bought it. Just purchased one for my DX (I was skeptical until about 20 minutes ago).
When we decided to purchase the 2 year extended warranty we assumed that the additional protection would be added AFTER manufacturer's warranty expired, which would give us 3 years warranty. The way I see it we paid for 2 years warranty and we are only getting benefit of 1 year. If I had it to do over I would have waited until the manufacturer's warranty was about to expire and THEN purchase the 2 year warranty. - Dx - Kindle Warranty - Kindle Dx - Kindle'

Hipster Pda - hipster pda, bullet pen
I have this pen and it is a very neat design. Extremely portable and handy.
However, the formulation of ink has a fairly long drying time and any left hander knows that will lead to smearing. If only there were other inserts with faster drying inks. I realize I would not be able to write underwater or upside down with the other insert but then I would not have a blue finger either. Weight Training - harbinger, lifting gloves
These gloves are of a good quality, though have a strong smell (leather dye, I assume). I am using them almost daily, and they cusion palms and fingers nicely. The velcro on the back is slightly uncomfortable, probably due to the size being too small. I ordered gloves in medium size, but they are too small for my relatively small hands. If you think you need medium, you, probably, should order large. I am giving 4 stars for the size issue, but the quality and price combination is very good. Harbinger Power StretchBack Glove (Black, Large)
I prefer a weightlifting glove that protects the hands from the normal abrasions of handling the bars and barbells, but doesn't have excessive padding that interferes with getting a good grip, or a wrist strap to interfere with the wrist's range of motion. I like to lift with a basic glove. I normally prefer a 100% leather glove, but decided to give these a try.
The only significant difference between these and a 100% leather is the back of the glove; it is made of a stretchable fabric. This fabric is not the mesh often found on inexpensive gloves, but a quality material that provides a good form-fit. If the glove is the proper size, the fit is snug, but not too tight. The fit is superior to the 100% leather gloves I have used.
The palm has extra leather padding, but not too much. My fingers can grip olympic bars, curl bars, and contour dumbells with the gloves on.
The overall construction of the gloves is pretty good. There is very little unevenness in construction, which is fairly common in most weightlifting gloves.
Despite the reasonable price, these gloves are of good quality. I could afford more, but these gloves fit my needs perfectly.
I have been using this product for a while now and am generally happy with is performance. My only comment is the same as others on this thread, in that even though I ordered a Large size, these gloves are still a bit tight. So I would recommend that if anyone is considering purchasing these gloves, order a size larger than you normally would.
These are BASIC work out gloves. Not the best design or feel but they do their job and are priced appropriately. (You get what you pay for.) If you're looking for something flashy and comfy; look else where. If you're serious about your workout and your money and want to protect your hands as well as your wallet; these are the ones.
Secondly, GO BIG OR GO HOME applies here. They're made in China so they may be XL over there; but in the U.S. these are a size large at best. XL Fits me tight and I'm 5'11" @ 195lbs with average hands.
Good gloves. Not the best I've seen. Harbinger 143 are far superior and cheaper. Regarding the gloves, I read a lot of complaints regarding the sizing before I purchased these and I believed them and bought one size larger (up'd from med to large). Big Mistake. The Gloves were loose and uncomfortable. I ended up giving them to my brother. They're decent gloves, but Harbinger has far better gloves for less.
This is my first pair of exercise gloves so I can't really provide a meaningful critique on their fabrication. They are comfortable and appear to be well made. However, from the comments of several people, I sized up one size and find that they are a tad too big for me. I feel therefore that the sizing is accurate on these gloves.
I work out pretty frequently, but this particular item has been by far the shortest lived pair of gloves I have ever owned. The lower palm of the hand is comprised of paper thin leather, and ripped after about 3 weeks use. - Harbinger - Comfort - Gloves - Lifting Gloves'
