Kitchen And Household

This product is so simple, and so well designed, it is just wonderful. The tape comes on a simple, plastic dispenser that is lightweight and functional. It's perfect for wrapping those packages for USPS or UPS - and the tape is clear and strong.

I hope the person who invented this is living a gooooood life! Scotch Packaging Tape, 2 Inches x 800 Inches, 6 Rolls (142-6)

Usually this kind of tape is so sticky that it is a bit bothersome, but at least it does the job and all is forgiven.

Indeed I was, and am, shocked to find this tape simply does not stick. I agree with another reviewer that perhaps this is a bad batch, but how many bad batches can there be?

This tape does not stick and cannot be used to seal packages. It is quite annoying to have to order a six-pack of these things and find I have wasted time and money.

Just today I bought a cheap 7-11 "brand" of this packing tape and found it sticks better than the Scotch brand.

That's right, this thing barely sticks. It's thick, and heavy, but it doesn't stick! What's the point?

Also, these are small rolls, not very efficient. You need to get another roll after taping a couple, maybe three boxes.

I have never left a review before but this tape is worthless. The only thing this tape sticks to is its self. You have to wrap the tape around the package twice so it sticks to its self. It will not stick to anything else. I am using 2X the amount of tape that I should have to.

The tape has been recalled by 3M. If yours is not sticky call the number on the box and thay will replace it. 3M customer service was great.

My tape just does not stick, I have used 3M tape before may times and it is by far better then these particular rolls.

There must have been a defective batch made.

I now have to use 3 times the amount of tape to feel comfortable that the package will not fall apart. The glue is just not sticky.

Since I have already started using the rolls I do not think I can return it.

Just another voice to say that this tape isn't sticky. I've mailed the remains of my 6-pack back to 3M with a letter to that effect. I like to buy products made in the US, but have to look elsewhere. So far, USPS tape seems to work best.

maybe i got a defective pack, but this tape does not stick! i bought this expecting to use less tape per package, but it refused to stick to cardboard boxes. i had to use some cheap tape on top of this tape just so i could mail my packages. i would have returned it, but i used a few out of the package. will not be purchasing this again.

I love this tape for shipping because it is strong and very durable, but it is so expensive to buy at a local retailer. The applicator and cutter make using this tape so easy. This multiple roll package offers a great price plus no tax and free shipping. Would like to see less packaging material, maybe the 6 rolls packed into a recyclable plastic bag in lieu of the overwrapped cardboard tray.'

Appliance Timer - appliance timer, programmable digital timer

I bought this timer to turn on lights because it gets dark early in the winter and its dark when we get up. I also bought a Woods 7 Day Timer which cost twice as much. They both work equally well, but the more expensive can have up to 8 each day or 64 on and off in a week and has a second grounded outlet on the opposite side. Both program in similar ways (the Woods is a little more complicated because it has more features).

You can chose Daily (M T W T F S or S), M T W T F S S (everyday), M T W T F, or Sat Sun. (The Woods Timer you can also select M W F and Tue Thur Sat.)

Though the Stanley Timer has only 8 on and off settings, since the setting can be say Monday through Friday you get 5 days with only one setting. Then use one setting for Sat Sun, i.e. two days with one setting. Only two setting for the week! Unless you have a crazy unpredictable schedule this timer is more than adequate.

I have only used 4 settings to turn on the lights in the family room in the morning and evenings. No more stumbling around in the dark in the mornings and when we get home at night! In the master bedroom, I can hit the snooze, but the light helps me get up (keeps me from going back to sleep).

On the downside is there is only one grounded outlet on the left side because the switch contact is only rated for 60 Watts for Incandescent (standard wire filament style bulb) and 1200 Watts (10 Amps) resistive for CFL bulbs or appliances such as rice cookers, crock pots, tea/coffee makers, etc. If you need a heavier duty switch contacts then get the Woods Timer which is rated for 15 Amp or 1875 Watts lighting or resistive.

The back-up battery uses two button cell batteries, which is no big deal (hint: purchase Alkaline or Lithium button cell batteries at discount/dollar stores in a bubble pack card for a dollar which has 3 or more batteries). If you don't want to replace the batteries the Woods 7 Day it has a built in recharging battery.

For everyday use this Stanley Timer is great timer for a reasonable price. Stanley 31200 TimerMax Indoor Weekly Digital Timer, White

I purchased this because I have a space heater set up at my computer desk down in the basement and I kept forgetting to turn off the heater when I went to bed at night. So now, I plug the heater into this timer; I've set the timer to allow power to the heater only from 6am to 10:30pm and that way even if I forget to turn off the heater, the timer will turn it off at 10:30pm and it will stay off until 6am. I still use the power switch on the heater to turn the heater on or off, but the timer provides the safety net of turning it off in case I forget.

Admittedly, the LCD display has some small text which is hard to see if you're messing with this under a desk on the floor. Here's my suggestion:

1. Pull out the plastic tab from the backup battery so that the battery will remember the time settings even when disconnected from the power.

2. INITIALLY, plug the unit into an outlet that is easy to reach and well lit (e.g., a bathroom outlet).

3. Follow the directions that state that you should plug in the unit and let it run for 10 or 15 minutes before setting it up.

4. After waiting the 10-15 minutes, program in the settings while the unit is plugged into the well-lit and easy-to-reach outlet.

5. Now unplug the unit and transfer it to the target location and plug it in there--because the unit has a backup battery, all your settings should still be correct and now you're ready to plug in your appliance!

Received when expected, came in retail packaging that was easy to get into (I hate having to struggle to get into packaging meant for Walmart/Target customers).

Plastic strip that protects batteries (for internal clock, so it'll keep time even in power outages) ripped on *both* units that I bought...no big deal, removed cover and plucked out strip.

Easy to program, came with single page of instructions. If you can program one of those cheap digital watches, you can do this intuitively (without having to indent hidden buttons...these buttons are big and right on front). If you can't program simple stuff, you'll probably struggle with this too!

I'm satisfied...5 stars.

I was not impressed with this timer.

Firs of all, the display is hard to see, even with fresh batteries in it.

Also, I do not like the idea of timers using 2 $5.00 button cells as a back up.

I had a Digital Intermatic timer that I purchased many years ago and it used 2 AA batteries for back up.

Today it looks like all digital timers use over priced button cells for back up.

I found this in OSH and it costed $19.99. The price on Amazon was only $12.22 and eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping. So I ordered it together with other stuff from Amazon. After it arrive, I heared some noise inside it. It sounded like a component was loosen. I didn't want to risk. I went to the Amazon website and requested a return and replacement. Amazon sent me a new one immediately, even before the old one was returned. UPS came to my house and picked up the old one without any charge.

The second one came a few days later and it works fine. 8 program can be set and each program can work in several days. For example, you can set program 1 to run between 8PM and 10PM every day, and program 2 to run from 6AM to 6:30AM on weekday only, and then program 3 to run from noon to 4PM on Wednesday only. It's better than what I learned from the Product Description.

The LCD dispay, especially the On/Off/Auto mode indicator is really small. I have no problem with it because my eyesight is still good. But I understand why other reviewers complained about it.

I hoped buying a stanley timer would meant it was a good quality unit, but this turned out to be a waste of money - regardless of setting, it is alway 'on' (and I know to put it in auto mode). Even had it worked, the tiny, tiny display and poor interface are just awful. Save yourself the money and get something else. - Digital Timer - Programmable Timer - Programmable Digital Timer - Appliance Timer'

Fishing - lures

OK, I am a bassoholic, I admit it. I have just about every book on striped bass and have fished it almost exclusively for near 38 years from shore and boat from Nantucket to Virginia (but 90% in NE). This book was a little bit of a let down for me. I get SWS and figured this would be the modern day defacto-standard complete works on how-to. But is is just an introduction IMO. There could be a lot more details. It is worth it if you are not familiar fishing for stripers and want a quick lesson, and there are some decent sections and good basic info but there are other books that are far more interesting and have more detailed info. I bought it, read it and it sits on the shelf...haven't opened it since. Striped Bass Fishing: Salt Water Strategies (Salt Water Sportsman)

I am new to surfcasting and found the book to be a good overall source of information about fishing for Stripah. It's a good source for someone breaking into the sport. The book has some great illustrations and covers everything from migration to location to baits and rigs to conservation.A nice book to pass to my son in a few years.

Not quite as pretty as a some fly fishing coffee table books, but beautiful pictures and finally a fishing book with recepies.Format is a little choppy with the multi-author approach, with some redundancies. - Lures'

Thermal Compound

I own a fat 60GB PS3 and it is working fine. I even fully disassembled it a few months back to clean it up from dust and what not. What I didn't do was replacing the factory thermal paste applied to the CPU & GPU (which sucks big time by the way).

I was really worried to get a YLOD as a result of that crappy factory paste (now that I've seen it for myself).

After a lot of research and praises for the Arctic Silver 5, I was just about to place an order when I found out by accident about the IC Diamond 7, reading the description and a few reviews on it immediately made me go for it.

I cleaned the factory paste in my PS3 with the Arcti Clean 1&2 Kit, and applied it.

Now, people were controversial on how to apply thermal pastes in general. Just follow the method in the IC Diamond 7 website; put a dab on the middle of the chip with an average diameter of 5 - 5.5 mm and let the compression of the heat sink do the spreading. Make sure the amount is not too little or too much.

For the 1st two to 3 hours I kept my PS3 in the horizontal position just to be sure the spreading goes perfectly fine.

RESULTS: My PS3 now is waaay quieter than before, the fan kicks in high gear when the system's absolutely in its peak performance. I'm really impressed with this paste and I'd recommend it to all PS3 owners who would like to take this preventive step before YLOD hits their systems. IC DIAMOND 7 CARAT 1.5 GRAM THERMAL COMPOUND

Short of using gallium which leaves nasty stains (and is a pain to work with),

this IC Diamond paste seems to be a massive improvement over other thermal pastes

I've used, including the popular Arctic Silver.

Before:

---------------

I run an overclocked i7 920 at 3.6 GHz using a Noctura NH-U12P "special edition" heatsink.

I originally used the Noctura thermal paste that came with the cooler. Idle temps were taken at the desktop, load was taken after 15min of Prime 95. Room temperature was approximately 22c-23c. All temperatures were measured using PC Wizard 2010.

Idle:

core 1: 42-45c

core 2: 40-43c

core 3: 44-46c

core 4: 38-41c

Load:

core 1: 75-81c

core 2: 74-80c

core 3 74-82c

core 4: 71-77c

Again this was using the thermal paste provided with the Nocutra.

After:

--------------------

I applied the IC Diamond using the recommended method of applying a small bead to the center of the processor and allowing the pressure of the heatsink to spread the thermal paste (no credit card or finger needed!). I then allowed the paste to settle for about 30min before standing the computer back up.

Idle:

core 1: 37-42c

core 2: 39-40c

core 3: 38-41c

core 4: 36-39c

Load:

core 1: 63-65c

core 2: 63-64c

core 3 65-67c

core 4: 66-67c

Conclusion:

----------------------

While the temperature drop at idle was not all that significant, the temperature

drop at load was substantial! On some of the cores the difference was

10c or more! I was highly impressed to say the least. Also keep in mind the

i7s and quad cores in general tend to run very hot. Obviously there are a

number of other factors that could contribute to the cooler temps (maybe the

heatsink was set better this time) but the new paste definitely played a large

part in lowering my temps (I'd say by a good 5-8c at load).

Next up is Re-timing my GPU to see if it lowers my temps.

Overall I highly recommend this paste if you want the very best contact

between your heatsink and processor.

5/5

I used IC Diamond to lower operating temps on my Sager NP8170 i7 2720QM + AMD 6970 laptop. The factory compound in my laptop was resulting in load temps of the GPU in excess of 100C on a couple occasions, and in excess of 80C on the CPU. After cleaning the old factory paste off and applying IC Diamond, allowing it the proper cure times, my GPU barely breaks 80C after an hour on Furmark and CPU not exceeding 70C.

I also installed this on my i7 920 file server, but because it doesn't have very high CPU loads, the cooling improvements weren't as noticeable.

This paste will not improve idle temperatures all that much, but it will drop max load temps quite significantly! I had been a long time user of Arctic Silver and Ceramique, but this beats the pants out of both of them. IC Diamond looks like the new gold standard for cooling.

Just be sure to read the application instructions, it must be applied a bit differently compared with other thermal compounds.

Just put this baby 5 minutes in a cup of HOT water

Then, apply a good chunk (around 30% to the center of the CPU)

I am running Intel Core i7 875k @ 4.1Ghz and my max temp is around 75C after hours of use

Even with Prime95 the temperature is pretty awesome

With the thermal paste that came with the H70 (which is almost non-existent), the temperature at 3.8Gz was around 85C

I admit I wasted some of that thermal paste because I was moving positions a lot, but still, it just gives you an idea of what a BIG different it made

STOCK - Intel Core i7 875k @ 3.8Ghz - 85C

DIAMOND - Intel Core i7 875k @ 4.1Ghz - 75C

I used this on my Asus G73J, did tests before and after the repaste, i play FFXIV on my Asus and without the paste it used to reach 90-95C, after repasting and cleaning up my laptop air vents and sinks now I am getting 75-81C, not sure how much the paste got the temp down since i did the cleanup+repaste at the same time but I am sure it did a great deal on the temp reduction, i highly recommend it.

Platinum Micro, Inc.:

this is the company that sells this repaste, on my first shipment i thought the needles were empty because when u try to push the paste out u need to push a bit hard since the paste is little strong, so i asked the company for a refund which i got, then found out that the needles weren't empty, i emailed them asking to deduct the amount again but they said its ok keep the items and the refund, excellent customer service.'

2009 Amazon Frustration-fre - blue topaz, earrings

Love this set, got it before Christmas, and just today put on a new set of gems. The green earrings do NOT fit over the hoop, anyway, anyhow. The topaz is a very light blue, but all the colors are nice. There is that ONE pesky problem of the green not able to be used with these hoops. Luckily I do have a pair they fit on, but what if I didn't? Sterling Silver Hoop Earrings with Citrine, Garnet, Amethyst, Blue Topaz and Peridot Interchangeable Gemstones, Set of 5

I had the same issue as the first reviewer, the peridot stones do not fit on the earrings. The stones are all fairly light in color, and less vivid than pictured, but overall seem to be of good quality for the price. My only real complaint is that one set of the stones can not be used with these earrings. The loops are fairly small so you would need a very thin earring if you don't want to use the ones included. I've contacted Amazon for a replacement, so we'll see if the next set works.

UPDATE: Amazon sent a replacement set and the peridot stones still do not fit on the earrings - Garnet - Blue Topaz - Earrings - Jewelry'

Cooking Gadgets - cooking gadgets, silicone

I love poached eggs, and was enamored with the absurdity of the color, name, and design of poachpods. I bought them, ripped the tag off, and put them in the cupboard for a month.

I just used them for the first time today, and didn't have the instructions. So I just dropped the eggs in the pod, and placed the pods into lightly boiling water. I replaced the lid, and waited 5 minutes. I then had perfectly poached eggs that were seriously stuck to the poachpod. Whoops. My bad.

SO, a poachpod will give you a perfect egg if you:

1) Boil some water

2) Spray the inside of pods with nonstick spray (or brush with olive oil)

3) Crack the eggs into the pods

4) Turn down the water to low

5) Place the pods into the water (the lilypad effect is pretty sweet)

6) Replace the pot cover

7) Wait 5 minutes

6) Coax the eggs out of the pods onto your plate/toast/english muffin

That's it - exactly how they are supposed to work. No need to buy a dedicated poaching pan. I used a 3 qt saucepan.

Because the top of the pods are out of the water, the "handle" part is not too hot to touch. I had no problem removing the eggs with my hands. Fusionbrands Poach Pods, Set of 2, Green

First of all, these things work well. They make poaching eggs quite easy, as long as you make sure to oil the pods. I poured a few drops of oil into each pod, then used my finger to coat the walls; this resulted in the cooked egg coming out clean, no sticking.

The only reason i rated this 3 stars is because my eggs taste just like the way the pods smell. Maybe its a one time thing, who knows, but i made sure to wash them beforehand.

So as far as function goes, ill give it 4 1/2 stars, but because of the taste of the eggs, i have to knock down some points.

These cups make very picture-perfect poached eggs, but they retain odors and tastes.

To use simply coat the inisde of the cups with oil or cooking spray and place them in a large pot of boiling water. As the water approaches boiling, drop an egg in the cup, turn down the heat and cook for 4-5 minutes (less if you want softer eggs). To remove the eggs, simple spoon out the perfectly formed eggs. You can also flip the cups inside out, if you are very heat-reistant hands.

Not coating the cups with oil will create a sticky mess.

But that's not the bad news. After about five uses, the eggs from my cups starting tasting exactly like I would imagine my dish soap would taste if I ate it. I had forgotten to coat the cups with oil the last time I used them so I had to soak them for a bit in hot soap water to loosen the glued on eggs. Apparently that was enough to get the dish soap scent in the cups and passed on to the eggs. Yuk! I've tried everything (baking soda, freezing, etc.) to remove the smell and resulting taste, with no success.

While it is a handy device, and undoubtedly less fussy to use than other poaching products/tools, it is not perfect. Because bits of egg stay stuck to the sides of the pod after either flipping them out or using a flexible spoon/spatula...

- the resulting shape is not as smooth or "clean" as I'd like (acceptable for daily use but not good enough for entertaining)

- cleanup isn't any easier than cleaning custard cups or ramekins if you choose to handwash.

I own and use several silicone kitchen tools, I was surprised that the non-stick feature fails with these poach pods. I consider myself a very experienced cook, and am 100% certain I followed the directions exactly when I used the pods several times.

I tried these out to streamline my Sunday brunch services at my restaurant. I thought they might be nice for home, too. I tested them out on a slower day and they failed miserably. The eggs did not cook evenly, as the plastic is a poor conductor (I should have known better) and the overall extended cooking time made the white rubbery and I found a nice soft poach was not as easy as with my preferred method, which is to place the cracked eggs directly in simmering water with an ACID, like vinegar of lemon juice. It only takes a drop and you will literally see the reaction happen in front of your eyes, the albumen will almost immediately begin to form a perfect ovular shape. Then all that is needed to remove the eggs is a slotted spoon. This is by far the best way to achieve a controlled poach in my eyes.

For people who cannot poach an egg, this is the product for you. As long as you follow the directions, it is fool proof! Bring your water to a boil, no need to add vinegar since your are not diretly putting the egg in the water. The poachpod simply works like a double-boiler would. Anyways, coat the pod with oil (or butter) as said in the simple directions. Crack the egg in the pod and then set in the boiling water. Make sure it is not a rolling boil, just above simmering. Use your lid and cover the eggs and in 3-4min you will have some pretty nice poached eggs. Next use a spoon or something with flex to pop the egg out. With practice your eggs will come out perfect. This product works if you read the directions

These little wonders are the first consistent way of making poached eggs that I have ever seen. I read the reviews of others and made sure to spray with non-stick, then followed the directions. I haven't had a single egg be anything other than medium poached. (Just the way I like them) I haven't had any runny whites or hard rock yellows.

In addition, I am able to make eight at a time, using my large pot. All four of us in the family can have hot Eggs Benedict at the same time. The kids also love the little domes that the pods make after flipping them out.

This product is great. It makes poaching eggs easy. The eggs taste better than eggs poached directly in water, and they look great. Plus the pods take up NO extra room in your kitchen and can be cleaned in the dishwasher. It took me two tries to get the hang of sliding the eggs out of the pod perfectly, but I love this product. We use it every weekend. It makes poached eggs actually easier to make than any other kind. - Cooking Gadgets - Egg - Egg Poachers - Silicone'

Ugly Stick

Shakespeare makes great rods if you are looking for durability and long life. We have been using them since they came out in their first year.

After multitudes of broken rods; caught in doors, trunks, stepped on, run over, and I mean lots and lots of broken rods over the years; our ugly sticks are still catching fish. Shakespeare Two-Piece Medium Heavy Action Ugly Stik Lite Salmon/Steelhead Spinning Rod (8-Feet 6-Inch)

The ugly stik lite MH is alot more rod than the really expensive G-Loomis and St-Croix 3 to 400 bucks for a bait caster really!!!! The ugly will reel in alot bigger fish without breaking and the other highend rods WILL NOT, The ugly stik casts just as well if not better than the other units if you do not buy the ugly you are just paying for a name and not a real quality product like the ugly stik is and always has been.....I read a test in Field and Stream mag a few years ago using the ugly stik and a few highend fishing rods using heavier weights lifted by the various rods and they all broke except the ugly stik! And if you start talking about the action of the other rods being better how dumb are you? That really only applies to fly rods, that is new major B.S. brought up by other rod building companies to make there bait casters look better, in reality you cast your weighted line out and let it set on the bottom or bobber fishing and don't touch it until you get a bite where is all the action involved in that. or throwing and retrieving lures still no action involved in that either! Any rod will do that well except for the very cheapest $15 instore special.I have been fishing for 52 years and the crappie just seems to get deeper every year, if you want to overspend on a name be my guest and throw your money away, but if you want a reel rod that is going to last more than a lunch time and fish up a storm, the ugly is far and away the best rod out there regardless of cost, and you can buy one just about anywhere, nothing can match this rod for rugedness none of the other rods on the market don't even come close, I have owned and still own several of these uglies and will never pay an arm and a leg for the other inferior rods on the market!!!'

37 Inch Tv - samsung lcd, 120hz

I am agreeing with other reviewers that this is an excellent product with only two attributes that were not as expected:

- Touch of color really is only a "touch". Without light shining directly on it the frame looks completely black

- Sound quality is poor. The right speaker has a tendency to ring at certain frequency even at low volume.

Picture quality is excellent; the TV set is not too heavy and looks good.

Please note that amazon ships this product via "Pilot" freight services. They will call you 24 hours before delivery is due to set up a time window for delivery. Shipping time was significantly faster than quoted during checkout. Samsung LN37B550 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color

The Samsung LN73B550 is a beautiful TV for an affordable price. If you're in the market for a LCD less than 40" then I would highly recommend this one. The colors are sharp and very crisp. Setup out of the box was extremely easy. My only quibble might be the sound quality, but I think that may be due to it sitting in an enclosed entertainment center. Samsung has become a leader in the LCD market for a reason and this TV is a testament to that fact.

Got this instead of the A550, which was well reviewed but criticized for its speakers. This one both looks great and sounds good as well. It's sound is nothing compared to my theater system, but I have no complaints at all on it. Picture is beautiful.

I am very happy with the Samsung LN37B550 LCD TV (and the Samsung Blu-Ray Player BD-P1600).

I do not understand how you could ever think a "Red Touch of Color" bezel means "ambient light" or even that the bezel has a "light source." As for having the Red Touch of Color on the bezel, I feel it is meaningless for most people anyways because it just helps distinguish between the 2008 LNxxA550 and the 2009 LNxxB550.

After having looked at Consumer Reports and other sites for ratings, I "settled" on the value of the B550 and did not feel the extra expense to get the B650 (with double the refresh rate) was worth the extra money. I can say that I could see the difference of 120Hz versus 60Hz refresh rate at a retailer, but for home use it was not worth it.

Shipping for me was as quoted and I really appreciate the scheduling of delivery, that way you do not have the TV sitting out for someone to steal.

I have not used the speakers on the TV since I have an external sound system. I do have issues with volume "leveling" when using Pandora on the Blu-Ray Player, but I do not believe it is related to the TV.

I wish there was actually an internal "battery" that kept the clock when there is a power-outage but that is just another component that could fail or need to be replaced so it did not diminish my rating.

I did HDTV research for more than 1 yr before I settled for this beautiful quality Samsung LN37B550. Absolutely worth every penny. This TV has the best picture quality stand-alone when compared with other sets. Now you can tell me all about contrast ratios, or viewing modes, or viewing distances, this and that, whatever and whatever, okay. To me, my eyes and ears don't lie. All the TV broadcast programs look absolutely stunning, and my place sounds already like a home theater before any stereo system set up is made. I also hooked up my Core 2 Duo (3 GHz) Dell using this Samsung as my primary monitor. The picture is outstanding. I 100% recommend this set. I was debating between a Sony, Sharp (there were a couple VERY good deals at both Costco and Bestbuy 1080p 40" for $700 or something), Panasonic, Toshiba, and Samsung, now yes perhaps you will spend like $50 or more on a Samsung, but TV quality, both inner and outer beauty, just cannot be beat.

I am the most indecisive person in the world, and within the past 6 months of browsing HDTVs and not being able to make a decision, I finally decided to jump in and buy this TV set. I've only had it for one day, but I'll continue to update this review as time goes on to make sure people get an idea of the long term aspects of this television.

First off, this TV is perfect for homes with small to medium living spaces. I have a living room that is roughly 15 by 15 feet, and this accompanies the room perfectly. Even after I set it up, I thought to myself that 42 inches would have been a bit too overpowering. Anyways, this TV puts my old 26 inch Westinghouse to shame. Although...I think almost any TV blows away Westinghouse television sets.

Anyways, right off the bat this TV is beautiful. It lacks the 120Hz processing, but in my own personal opinion, the only time 120Hz is beneficial is if you are watching sports or documentaries (Speaking of Documentaries, Planet Earth looks absolutely incredible on this TV regardless of the 120hz). All of the games I played today off of my PS3 looked much more polished and finely detailed, and Bluray (Planet Earth) was equally as incredible. I'll likely be giving some action movies a go on this TV tomorrow night, and I'll make sure to update how the TV handles fast moving scenes. However, I have a feeling that it will be great.

Before I close this, there was a review that I read which said that the television had poor viewing angles and back lighting. I just want to claim that when the sun went down, the backlighting on the TV is not nearly how the reviewer made it out to be, and the poor viewing angles are hardly poor. Do they exist? Yes, but barely. I felt like when the image became obscured due to the viewing angle, it doesn't even matter because the angle you are viewing the screen at is so awkward.

Bottom line, I am more than pleased with my purchase, and as stated before, this makes for a great small/medium sized living room TV. Unless you get a defect, you won't regret this product.

This is a great TV from Samsung. I was looking at Bravia and this one. The Bravia has some dull colors while colors on the Samsung are very vibrant and beautiful. Also, it has a better contrast ratio. The viewing angles are great and you cannot complain at all with this one.

It is very good for watching blu-ray movies and playing games off PS3. The sound from the TV is amazing as well.

It has some great features like USB-picture (hope it had USB-movie too like in the B650). A very easy to use TV, no complex menus to deal with and no hassle. It has 4 HDMI input ports and a PC-port (to connect a computer). The swivel stand is a small but a handy feature.

Overall an awesome product and a great TV...Love it!!! - Lcd Hdtv - 37 Inch - 120hz - Samsung Lcd'

Up-converting - multi-region dvd player, 1080p

I bought this to play Australian dvds in PAL format on my LG tv bought in America. It works great. It seems to automatically detect the PAL dvd format and plays it in the NTSC format that my tv understands. The power cord works for my AC outlet. For other multi-region dvd players I've seen complaints that the remote buttons are too small, but I think the buttons for this remote are fine. The picture and sound quality are very good. The drive does not make a lot of noise; certainly not as loud as my computer's dvd drive. I don't hear it when I'm watching. The player has a low profile and fits easily where my old dvd player was. I'm very pleased with this. Panasonic DVD-S38 All Multi-Region PAL/NTSC Progressive Scan DVD Player

There are in fact TWO Panasonic DVD-S38 models listed on Amazon. There's this one described as a region free/NTSC/PAL machine and another one which is just described as being a progressive scan model. This model shows as "New" the other one doesn't. I think the seller who told the lady who couldn't play anything but region 1 that she had the wrong model was probably telling the truth.

I bought this primarily to play UK DVD's (I'm British) as so many great shows are either not available here in the US or have been censored. I ordered several UK PAL DVD's to try it out at the same time. The machine was extremely easy to set up and it played the UK PAL disks flawlessly through my NTSC TV. Picture quality was good and so was sound. And for the price this machine was a steal when I consider what it gives me access to.

I received this DVD player quite promptly and was excited to watch my european zone 2 DVDs. Unfortunately it kept giving me error messages and would only play regular zone one DVDs. Needless to say I sent it back and got a full refund! However I just received an email from the seller claiming that I must have received an "unmodified version" by accident and that they would send me a working unit free of charge.

I just received the new unit and it did play my zone 2 DVD's. So it does work as advertised. The seller did go above and beyond to make things right. It was excellent customer service!!!! Would do business with them again.

I don't know why all DVD players don't come this way! I purchased some DVD's from Australia that I could not watch on my conventional DVD player. My father had purchased a "region free" DVD player years ago on Amazon for $30 (and it still works!) so I decided to do the same.

I am electronically challenged but this was so easy to set up! And the price?!! Who can beat that?!! I'm thinking of purchasing another one for my other TV in the living room.

I purchased this player so I can watch British-region DVDs in California. The player works perfectly with British and US DVDs, and the remote control has a much greater range than the remote for my old DVD player. Also, unlike my old DVD player, the new player does not forget where you are on a DVD if it is left on pause for a long time, and remembers the place even if it goes into standby mode. The player is very compact in size. I definitely recommend it. The only possible downside is that the DVD tray seems a bit flimsy, but as long as it is handled carefully, I am sure it will not be a problem.

I just received my new Panasonic all-region DVD player from Amazon, and I'm quite pleased with it. I bought an all-region JVC player years ago, but someone broke into my home while I was out of town a few months and stole it and 15 movies. I own many movies from regions 2, 3, 5 and 6, and I haven't been able to play them for months. The firm from whom I bought my first all-region player no longer has them, but I decided at last to do a search for them and found that Amazon has them. The service was quick and efficient, so I am well-pleased with everything about my purchase. I postponed several plans yesterday afternoon and watched parts of three Japanese region 2 and four Hong Kong Region 3 movies in a marathon eight hour session. Amazon, I say to you, "Arigato gozaimas, xie xie, m'goisaai", etc.! That's, "Thank you very much", in Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese.

I ordered this to play region 1 (US), region 3 (HK),and region 6 (China) DVD's. I was a little hesitant since some reviewers had had problems with some products not being able to play all regions, but when this product arrived, it and the box and all materials looked new; even the remote control batteries were still in their shrinkwrap. Interestingly, unlike some other products that came with non-US style power plugs, this had a two prong US style plug. In addition, the box had a return address of Panasonic North America, Santa Fe Creek, CA and all literature materials were US. Manufacture date was in October 2010. The DVD unit itself on the back was labeled region 1, which made me a little wary then. However, putting in region 1,3, and 6 DVD's I've had no problems. I was pretty surprised since the device cost less than sixty dollars! Of note, a brand new Panasonic S38 is running about forty dollars, so I guess the seller might be taking a new S38, modifying the region code system (which is perfectly within the law as i understand) and reselling for a twenty dollar profit.

I bought it to view non-american DVDs, but I also need to play MP3s. The sellers info said it would play the MP3s, as did the owners manual, but it won't. It plays the DVDs just fine. My blueray won't play the MP3s either, so now I have 2 DVD players and the blueray attached to my receiver. Why doesn't someone make a player that plays everything for a reasonable price?

If you look back through my reviews, you will find one for another DVD player, to which I only gave one star. This one is at the absolute opposite end of the spectrum. It was easy to connect, runs smoothly, controls are easy to understand and use, and does not sound like a bucket of bolts the way the other one did. This one also has the advantage of playing all region DVDs, with playback in NTSC format. I put a region 2 DVD in it this afternoon to make sure it worked, and it does. That DVD, BTW, was also in marginal condition, and this machine read it with no problem. By comparison, the other one I reviewed often will not even read new region 1 DVDs. Considering the fact that this one is an all region player, and works SO well, I rank it a bargain for the price! - Hdmi - Multi-region Dvd Player - Dvd Player - 1080p'
