Beginners Guide - nikon, digital slr

This is a mammoth book at 550 pages, and has everything you could possibly want to know about the Nikon D7000, including many topics not covered in the other guides I looked at. I upgraded to the D7000 from my D90 and was very pleased with the author's D90 book. Although I had to wait a few extra months for this one,it was worth the wait. The most useful part for me was the 100 plus pages devoted to explaining every function of the menus, with plenty of detail on why you should select a particular option. The other books I looked at just repeated the information in the Nikon manual.

I also loved the entire chapter on autofocus, which on the D7000 is a bit different from the D90 I had before. Busch has information on exactly how autofocus works, both the "phase detection" system used with the optical viewfinder and the "contrast detection" system it switches to in Live View mode and when shooting movies. The chapter on shooting D-Movies also helped me a lot, because I never had fully explored the D90's movie capabilities, and the D7000 is much better. Thank you! David Busch's Nikon D7000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography, 1st Edition

I have had my D7000 since Christmas of 2010. I've read the User's Manual which came with it several times (the User's Manual is several hundred pages long in its own right).

The problem with the D7000 documentation is that, while thorough, it does not explain the "why" of various settings, and how they can be used together to get better pictures. I've been looking for a clearly-written book which is not just a regurgitation of the user's manual (as many of them are) and yet doesn't go into extreme detail about the concepts of photography in general. I needed something that was worth the money, because it was full of information about the camera. This is the book. While there are certainly some quick discussions about things like what an f-stop is and how that number relates to the position of the aperature mechanism in the lens, those discussions are written to lay the foundation for extremely clear descriptions of all the camera's functions and how they actually work together. The intro section is rather long, but the book is huge, and if it doesn't answer your questions, probably nothing but a very experienced D7000 user will. This book is HUGE. It's large and thick (550 pages) and full of full-color illustrations and diagrams that will have you saying, "Ohhhh! So THAT's how that works!" over and over again. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is not a pro photographer. Since the camera is not a pro camera, that would be pretty much anyone who owns a D7000. The only downside of this book is it's size. It's not something you're going to want to lug around with you when you go out on photo shoots. Read it at home, make notes in the Nikon User's Manual and take THAT with you. Just as an aside, if you decide not to buy this book, beware when you look at others. Many are either just rehashes of the User Manual or books about photography with a few pictures of a D7000 to get you interested in them.

Just published and only recently available on Amazon.Com is this rather informative book by David Busch called Nikon D7000. Unless you are a very experienced Nikon photographer and have used similar late model Nikons, this will be quite useful and possibly save you disappointment and money both.

In order of what I've learnt so far:

1) Shows how to clean the sensor without damaging it.

2) Set it not to shoot if there is no SD card in either slot.

3) SD card recovery software.

4) Firmware update procedure.

5) Software recommendations such as Capture NX2 and Camera Control Pro 2 (of course) along with the usual suspects: DxO Optics Pro, C1 Pro, Bibble Pro, BreezeBrowser Pro, and PhotoShop.

6) Lighting gear and techniques - a long chapter on the most vital subject including flash and studio lighting.

7) Getting the most out of your lenses - unless you are a pro, you could always learn more.

8) Setup menus including that surprisingly versatile Retouch menu - the menus are where the action is on a complex camera like this - get to know them.

9) Initial setup is important - pay attention to this and much of the rest of your shooting will be much more productive.

10) Recommended settings chart and the use of advanced techniques and gear like GPS.

11) Live View, Movies, and editing.

12) Getting the most out of the auto-focus - not as easy as it seems.

13) Exposure and extensive descriptions of the physical camera and its menus.

In the camera use itself here's a strange tidbit. An additional caution: Some reviewers complained the resolution was not as high as they expected. Turns out, you have to go into the menu system and tell the cam to use not the Medium resolution, but the High resolution! Maybe just on Auto, but you should investigate this thoroughly or you won't get the 16MP you paid for. Bizarre, but true.

Well written and illustrated. Recommended.

The D7000 is more sophisticated than the D70, D80, and D90, which I was already familiar with. I had looked at the D7000 Nikon manual for answers to specific questions that I had, only to get very frustrated and not find an understandable explanation. I had read a Peter Innova ebook as well as a Thom Hogan ebook for two of the previous Nikon DSLRs that I owned, but the David Busch book is by far my favorite. I also like the portability of having a book with me. I find that he explains things well, but not to a point where it is condescending to the reader. Although I'm only around page 60 right now, I feel I have already learned a lot. I like the full color pictures of the camera as well as how menu items are displayed in full color and cover most of the page. He gives practical reasons why you should/shouldn't use certain settings. When I own a camera, I want to know how to use everything on the camera. Although this is going to take a very long time to read, I feel it is well worth my time. - Beginners Guide - Photography - Digital Slr - Nikon'

Falcon Bay

I have a medical device implanted on the lower right side of my stomach area and the tops of pants hit right where it is and can irritate it. So I need pants that can expand when I sit down to lessen the irritation.

These pants are wonderful. They feel comfortable sitting or standing and look very nice. I must wear dress pants to work and these fit the bill nicely! Pants like these are hard to find and I will certainly be ordering more and remembering this product. Highly recommend them! Falcon Bay® Big Mens Full Elastic Waist Casual Twill Pant (Big & Tall and Regular Sizes)

These are terrific pants, especially for someone weight challenged. They look great even after being packed. Our only issue is that they don't come smaller. They are comfortable, yet look dressy enough for almost all occasions.

Very nice comfortable pants, generous size, soft fabric.

The fabric is quit light, so it will fit summer clothing, rather casual, something warmer than beach pants.... here i fell it little light for 15c (around 60f....)

For those in need of elastic waist light casual pant they are highly recommendable....

Purchased two pair of trousers from Falcon Bay. Specified size required with waist and inseam as pants were to be hemmed upon arrival. Waist size was correct but two different inseam lengths were shipped, neither being what was specified. All attempts to contact the supplier (three) were met with that's not my responsibility here's another number. I finally gave up and will never purchase clothing via internet again.

Family Entertainment - harrison ford, classic movie

This version is being rushed out at the end of this month. Michael Bay has stated that a Bigger and Better 3D bluray version will be released later, with ALOT more extras than this edition. That version will be release on standard Blu as well, Looks like before the end of this year, just in time for the holidays. Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Look the studio wants consumers to buy the 2D version first, then the 3D release which is being purposely delayed.

So I'm Redboxing the Dvd until the 3D becomes reasonable (which will include the 2D too).

I am not a Transformers fan. I enjoyed the first movie until the Transformers showed up, then I turned it off. I pretty much FF through much of the second one, looking for Meagan Fox scenes. Why I watched this one, I don't know. The addition of Frances McDormand and John Malkovich made the movie enjoyable. I love watching them act. The movie opens with Sam job hunting in DC with his embarrassing parents (dressed in green) hanging around. He is eventually hired by the quirky Malkovich. There is an interesting rewrite of the space program. I recall the Russians sent an unmanned probe to the moon which crashed just before we made a landing. This fact is mentioned in the film. Buzz Aldrin plays Buzz Aldrin, but not too convincingly. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Victoria's Secret model plays Sam's GF. She is eyed heavily by her boss to Sam's dismay and jealousy. This gives us a subplot with conflict, in addition to machines killing machines (The part I find boring.) In the first half of the film she wears tight short dresses which show off about 8 feet of leg. When the action starts she changes to tight slacks.

The bad Transformer include a mechanical "Dune" worm, a vulture, and some ugly looking guys. The bad transformers can disguise themselves as good transformers or computers to invade "happy families." The movie effectively uses light comedy to break up the gloom and doom of the evil transformers. "You can't just bring weapons of mass destruction into our atmosphere. It has to clear customs first."

The transformers use earth sayings from TV and movies. At one time you hear them quote Don Adams (Get Smart) "Missed it by that much." They interject quickly, so you must pay attention to catch the phrases. The final action scene, I thought was way too long. I find bot on bot fighting as boring as Rock Em Sock Em Robots... Unless of course they designed the film to be played with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Then it would be "freaking awesome".

Some adult language like D-head. Weird scene in men's room stall although not sexual, the humor was sexual. No sex or nudity. Four and a half stars

I must admit I thought the third film in the franchise was a lot of fun, most notably with the integration of the 3D photography. Here though is the problem: it becomes very apparent that Paramount/Dreamworks is so eager to release this, that they throw this version out to the masses, minus the expected extensive supplemental material - the word is that the deluxe (and 3D) version is coming out in November/December AND given the (highway robbery)price $31.49, Paramount/Dreamworks thinks that Joe-consumer is an utter twit and will buy anything Transformers related at the drop of the hat - well, I ain't buying this version, I'll wait for the 3D version.

Oh and according to Paramount's press release the MSRP is 29.99 not 44.99 - Amazon is RIPPING US OFF - big time!!!!

Thing is, should this be a review for the movie, or review for the home version and it's missing contents? That is the question. I'm giving this 5 stars for the movie alone, which was wonderful, just a bit long. Now I read the novel first, I wish I hadn't. The novel was great, and the movie follows the books to a "T". We follow the wanna-be conspiracy with what's on the other side of the moon, Prime's anger over this, and Sam's story following the human interaction and deaths behind what was found on the moon, and Decepticons working with humans? Where is Dr. Arkevil when you need him,, eh Starscream? Thing is, this movie is right up every Transformer fan who knows the G1 stories inside and out. The movie weaves the basic stories behind "More than meets the eye" and "Megatron's Master Plan" perfectly. Funny thing is, in the cartoon, Megatron simply "lifted" Lincoln of his memorial and sat down in one of the old episodes...not this new Megatron! We finally see some new Transformer characters brought from the woodworks out of history from Sentinel Prime, Shockwave, and Laserbeak(who nearly steals the movie).

Plenty of action, and comedy, with enough seriousness that makes you think... how ARE they going to end this? Though we DO see the Twins in background of one scene and their "death scene" from the novel is oddly missing, while many either hate or love the Twins, they should have finished the scene or left it in. That part really "redeems" those characters for me (still like their fight against Devastator from the previous movie...).

Great movie, but wait for the 2nd release closer to Christmas. I really don't want the 3D, but when you buy DVD or BluRay you expect extras. That was HOW the DVD market was originally handled when DVDs were even released originally over a decade ago, and we're left with a great movie release with no extras? I don't think so. 1.5 stars for the product, 5 stars for the movie. They are milking it for all it's worth in an economy that's still hurting.

Parents Cautioned: Plenty of language, sexual innuedoes are much less than the previous movie, long stretches of intense action, we blow up like marshmellows apparently - Harrison Ford - George Lucas - Classic Movie - Star Wars'

Rechargeable Batteries - aaa, nimh

I can't believe it! Just when we thought we've got the Duracell battery color scheme figured out, those folks at Duracell pulled another cheap trick out of their collective... hat!

To recall, here is the color scheme for Duracell AA/AAA batteries:

- Duracell alkaline cell has the famous 'copper top' and a black bottom

- Traditional Duracell Rechargeable NiMH (DC2400) cell is green and black in color

- Newer Duracell Pre Charged NiMH cell has a 'copper top' and a green/black bottom

The latest batch of rechargeable AA/AAA NiMH cells from Duracell all have the 'copper top' and green/black bottom, similar to that for 'Pre Charged' version. However, those cells don't say 'Pre Charged' on them. Instead, they have their capacity printed (2650mAh for Duracell DC1500 AA, 1000mAh for Duracell DC2400B4N AAA). It is important to know that: those are NOT the low-self-discharge type like Sanyo Eneloop. They are traditional NiMH cells, which have higher capacity but suffer from rapid self-discharge problem. So even though their prices may look attractive, those are no bargains.

Remember: "If it doesn't say 'Pre Charged', put it back!" Duracell DC2400 Rechargeable Batteries, NiMH, AAA Size, 4-Count Packages (Pack of 2)

I have had these AAA batteries for a couple of years. I use them for my mp3 player, my Sony sports radio, and my Mighty Bright clip-on light.

These give me about as much power as the regular Duracell Coppertop AAA alkaline batteries.

- Capacity

Although not mentioned in the product description, the capacity of these batteries is 1000 mAH. Duracell also makes these Pre-Charged 1000 mAH AAA Rechargeable Batteries (1000 mAH is the highest capapcity of AAA rechargeable batteries that Duracell makes as of this writing).

- Battery Life

I'm very satisfied with the battery life of these batteries. I frequently use my Might Bright light to read. These Duracell batteries give me 15-20 hours of light before my the light grows noticeably dimmer. After that, I can still squeeze some juice out of them to get a few more hours of usable light. And on my antiquated Cowon iAUDIO 4 player, I get about 10 hours from a single Duracell AAA Rechargeable battery!

I have both an Energizer and a Duracell battery charger. These batteries perform spectacularly no matter which charger I use to charge them.

- Pre-Charged Alternative

Whenever you're in a pinch and need some batteries (say you're out vacationing), instead of buying alkaline batteries, I'd also really recommend that you try these Pre-Charged Duracell Batteries. They're ready to go right out of the package, and after they have been depleted, you can pop them in your charger to charge them right up and reuse them again.

---

These Duracell AAA Rechargeable Batteries last a long time in my medium-drain devices. I'm more than satisfied with the performance on these Duracell Rechargeable Batteries.

I purchased 8 of these batteries to use for my TI-89 calculator, my mouse and my noise canceling headphones. I use them with the Duracell 15 minute charger. I would recommend these products to anyone. The battery has a long lasting life and I have not had any problems with my devices. - Nimh Batteries - Aaa - Battery - Nimh'

Mens Watch - chronograph, metal banded

I was skeptical of buying such a nice piece of jewelry from any website, even one with such a great reputation. I read through the warranty and plenty of other reviews. They both put some of my concerns to rest and we ordered. We had the watch the next day and I love my Tag Grand Carrera. I'm wondering why people forego such a great deal here at amazon.com and pay the overy hyped retail prices! Thanks Amazon! TAG Heuer Men's WAV511B.BA0900 Grand Carrera Automatic Certified Watch

I go by the Amazon.com user reviews all the time when I buy things online but I have never contributed in the past. The reason I am writing this review is because this watch is absolutely amazing but have lost some stars because one particular buyer who wrote a review was unsatisfied. With that being said, the local Reeds' Jeweler sells the exact same watch for $4000, not including taxes. Get it from Amazon.com!

My husband and I both loved his TAG Heuer watch that we ordered directly from Amazon. The watch is stunning, but unfortunately it stopped working within a month of receiving it. I called the manufacture to make sure there wasn't something more we could do to make it work before sending it back, and there wasn't. Having said all of this, I plan to repurchase the watch once refunded. TAG has a great reputation, and I hope this was just a fluke. We loved the watch that much, but hate having to go thru sending it back etc... Now if the second watch stops working, then I will purchase another brand all together and probably from another site. - Tag Heuer - Chronograph - Metal Banded - Grand Carrera'

Nintendo Ds - nintendo, handheld

People will no doubt find the Nintendo DS Lite to be a way for Nintendo to sucker people out of their money. It can be that way, if you think of yourself as a sucker, but for me the DS lite is a little better. Simply put, if you're content with your original DS, then don't even waste time to buy this one. If you don't have a DS period, the DS Lite is a much better investment than the original bulky one.

With the DS Lite, gameplay is made a little simplar. The button placement and brighter screen make the gameplay a little better. For one, the start and select buttons have been moved to resemble where they were on the original Gameboy Advance. This makes handling some of the functions (especially for GBA games) a lot easier. The buttons, sadly, are a still a little small for guys with big hands like myself.

The DS Lite also comes with a phony GBA cartridge (called a "cap"). If you don't have a GBA game plugged into the system, you can put in the phony cartridge to keep it from collecting dust in there. However, when you do stick in a GBA game, it sticks out by about a centimeter. It just looks weird. The cap does, at least, keep the system looking good.

Perhaps the most welcome change to the DS Lite is the screen. The original DS screen was not exactly bright. In fact, it was, in comparison the DS Lite, rather dark. Games like Metroid Prime Hunters were darker than they had to be. On this new screen, the difference in how bright the games appear really shows. Not only that but, you can adjust the brightness if need be. It doesn't really affect the battery life, either. You can play the DS Lite for as long as you played the original. And also like the original, it charges while you play.

Another welcome difference is the touch screen itself. These screens last a lot longer than the original DS. Those who have an original DS no doubt experienced a lot of scratches on their screen from their stylus. To the point where it was noticeable. You could still see the screen, but it was apparent that the stylus was doing a number on it. The screen is more protected here. The stylus doesn't scratch the screen quite as easily. In other words, the touch screen lasts a lot longer.

The DS Lite also looks better, and fits in your pocket better. It also performs all the tasks of a regular DS. For example, if you're playing a game and you suddenly have to go, just flip it closed and it sleeps. There's also a place to store the stylus, and the stylus is better too. It's a little bigger and thicker, so it's not quite as easy to lose.

Some problems with the original DS still plague the DS Lite however. You still can't play Gameboy Color or regular Gameboy games on the DS Lite. Also, you still can't configure the controls to play a GBA game much easier. In other words you can't configure "X" and "Y" when you play a GBA game. This probably won't bother you in the long run, however. Also, the touch screen still has its sensitivity. Touching the touch screen with your bare hands is more dangerous than the stylus scratching the screen. The oils from your fingers might damage the screen and therefore, it won't respond to the touch of even your stylus.

When the original DS launched, owners will note that there were not very many good games availible. About the only good game during its launch in 2004 was Super Mario 64 DS. Now there are plenty of games out there (and not all of them are ports), so if you do want a DS, this is a great time to get one, and the DS Lite is a better investment than the original one by far.

The DS may not play movies, or MP3 players, but to be honest, that almost defeats the purpose of a gaming system. Am I looking to buy a portable entertainment center? Of course not, I'm looking to find a system to play some of my games on, and the Nintendo DS delivers. Real gamers know it's about the games, not about the bells and whistles of a system. For the casual gamer, the Nintendo DS delivers, and the DS Lite is a fine improvement.

The Good

+Vastly superior to the original DS

+It fits in your pocket easier

+The Screen is much brighter

+Touch screen is more durable

+The placement of the Start and Select buttons is easier

+A better stylus

+The battery life is unchanged

The Bad

-Those with an original DS, who want a DS Lite will have to spend more money for yet another DS

-Some of the cons of the original DS are still here Nintendo DS Lite Crimson / Black

Nintendo's newest DS Lite adds a cool new color scheme and some subtle improvements.

Pros

+ Awesome cobalt-blue and black color scheme - looks almost royal blue or purple!

+ Black base is a more grip-able matte finish that doesn't smudge and holds well in your hand

+ Nice design - thin DS Lite form factor you know and love

+ Brighter screen with better contrast than previous generation

+ Less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and 20 percent lighter

+ Well placed microphone in the center of the unit

+ Well placed LED lights visible when the unit is open or closed, indicating power on and low battery

+ Wi-fi connectivity allows for DS Download Play and Muli-card play

+ Works with original DS games and GameBoy Advance games

+ Lower price point than competing portables like the PSP ($130 versus $170)

+ Great selection of low priced games to add to your collection!

+ Great game selection for adults, particularly learning and puzzle games

+ Multi-player wireless game play for games like MarioParty and New Super Mario offers great fun!!

+ Convenient stylus storage slot on the right underside of the unit

+ Awesome battery life that only requires recharging after many days of use!!!

+ Cool (though seldom used) novelty app called PictoChat for DS to DS chatting

+ Availability of add-on programs for wireless web surfing and other apps

+ Great accessories market, but beware low quality providers such as Switch&Carry (BD&A)

Cons

- GameBoy Advance game slot leaves cartridges sticking out and not flush

- Shiny cobalt top still attracts smudges - no biggie

- Reports of common issues with hinge cracking from regular use; time will tell if it's been fixed

- Somewhat slow start-up with DS Download play

- Some cheapo accessories are Nintendo certified: AVOID Switch&Carry (BD&A), stick with Pelican!!!!

- Limited built-in configuration settings (only military time format????)

- Need to exit games to access key configuration settings like brightness, etc.

- Colors produced in limited quantities and sell out too quickly!!!!

Looks and Form Factor

I've owned several DS lites, including the Onyx Black model. I chose the DS over the PSP for the games. PSP 2000 Console - Piano Black

This is by far the best looking DS Lite!! The cobalt blue on black color scheme shines a hue that's closer to royal blue or deep purple! The top is still a shiny smudge magnet, but it looks so cool anyway! Just wipe it down. :-)

The decision to make the base a matte black is both great for looks and function. The unit is easier to hold, doesn't smudge on the matte black part, and won't slip out of your hand as much as previous models. This feature started in the new BrainAge2 bundle with the red top. You can kind of see this from the pictures but it's not really highlighted in the descriptions. Considering this is the 1 biggest improvement, that surprised me.

I've also heard that the hinge was improved for durability, but I can't visually see a difference and I'm not going to dismantle it to find out. :-) It's a common known problem that hinge cracking has been the only common defect, so just handle with care. I personally haven't had a single DS falter on me in any way.

Other than that, same DS Lite form factor that you know and love. The only real gripe is that every version of the DS Lite is produced in very limited numbers and sells out in a few months. So if you like a color, you have to act fast before they disappear from retail!

Game Play and Functions

This handheld is very well designed for game play. The speakers and microphone built in to the unit are more than adequate, and you can attach peripherals or headphones to the included port.

Nintendo has done a great job of very targeted well designed games. Kids games like MarioParty Mario Party DS and the New Super Mario Brothers New Super Mario Bros. are fun and engaging! Get a group of friends together and play each other with only 1 game cartridge using DS Download play and versus modes!

Similarly, plenty of games for adults including the cult favorite BrainAge Brain Age, the new BrainAge 2 Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day and my personal favorite Big Brain AcademyBig Brain Academy!

Plus now language games like MyWordCoach My Word Coach

and MySpanishCoach My Spanish Coach offer more edutainment options to a growing list of games!

Nintendo has decided that fun game play and great design is more important than high-end graphics in a handheld, and I think they're right!

Features

The most notable DS Lite features are based on the Wireless connectivity. Some add-on applications even allow you to wirelessly surf the net. There are even apps that allow you to do other stuff like play MP3s with it!

Many games offer multi-card play (each player needs a card) or download play (1 card needed for 2-8 players) that both use the wireless connection.

The device has awesome battery life, and I've gone a week of light use without having to recharge. The heavier the use, the more you will need to charge it.

The configuration screen lets you set one of 4 brightness modes, which will also allow you to make your charge last. Some options aren't easily set . It seems to default to military time. Also, you can't change your brightness while in a game. Still those things are minor in context.

Your game scores and profiles are saved on memory stored on the game cartridges. That means you don't have to worry about transferring your info from one DS to the other. :-)

Hopefully the next version includes a faster wireless. Loading those games just seems to take too long. Still, it works and once again, this is a minor gripe.

Conclusion

Overall this device is an improvement. Nintendo's DS will continue to attract fans. Just make more of them guys!!! These colors sell out too fast!

You will want to buy a nice case and screen protectors to protect your DS! Avoid all Switch&Carry accessories!

Here's some of the ones I like!

I have these pants in the Khaki/Black color (not that color matters) and they're awesome. Light weight, tough, comfortable. Total freedom of movement without a sloppy fit. It's great these are on amazon prime now. When I got mine, I had to wait weeks for them to be shipped from a warehouse in the UK. Hopefully amazon.com gets the other colors too.

The glue on the water proof cell phone bag is a little sloppy, and according to reviews on the Bear Grylls site, it can make a mess on hot days. (I took it out of the pants when I got them.) You can pick up another small WP bag at any outdoor store... or just put your phone in your pack. (I recommend just putting it in your pack.) Point is, these pants are great even without the bag.

Sizing is accurate, but a tiny little bit on the small side. If you have overly thick legs or you just like your clothes looser, order one size larger than what you nomally buy. I have muscular legs, and normally wear 32x32 to 34x32. I got the 34 reg and they fit well.

Bear Grylls is the man. Bear Grylls Men's Survivor Pant,Metal/Black,34x31

Received mine for Christmas - ordered one size over (as suggested by comments on the UK Bear Grylls site). The fit is excellent, the materials are too. However, the workmanship is HORRIBLE! There is a 3/4" threaded loop hanging out from the front pocket just waiting to get snagged on something. The hem on the right leg looked like it was sewn by a 3rd grader - it is a JOKE! (Surprisingly, the left leg hem is perfect). There are 2 buttons which secure the waist- the internal one fell off the 1st time I washed the pants. Lastly, there is a plactic waterproof pouch in one of the cargo pockets that is supposed to hold items that you want to keep dry. There are velcro strips that are attached with adhesive to the plastic pouch, which assist in keeping things dry. After the first wash and dry, the adhesive became a gooey mess all over the plastic, which made it impossible to open - in other words, useless. If this plastic device was supposed to be removed before washing and drying, they should have mentioned it somewhere.

I also purchased a Bear Grylls shirt, which has excellent workmanship, so maybe the person who assembled my pants was just a bad employee (who should look for another line of work). Hopefully, Amazon will allow me to exchange these for a pair that are sewn correctly.

These are very comfortable, not as thick on knees as i was thinking, light weight, left cargo pocket has water tight zip lock pocket inside for matches, paper, wallet, lots of cargo pockets, military style buttons. good buy for hiking or camping

These pair of pants are work horses.

They are the best hiking pants I have ever worn.

Aside from the fact that people are disappointed with the sizing issues; just get the right size, and they are perfect.

I really like mine, and would definitely recommend them.

I have to say that these are the best pants I have ever owned. I have yet to take them out on an adventure but I have used them around town and around the house. They fit great not to big not to small. I usally wear a 36 and so I ordered a 36. They are a bit snug around the waist but I think the 38 would be to big. I bought them for my trip to Bolivia. So we will just have to see how they do there but I'm sure they will be great. It is for sure worth the money. Buy it and jsut dont tell your wife how much they were untill 3-4 years when you still have them and they are sttill in perfect condition, Because they will last that long from the looks of them.

These pants are extremely comfortable and very durable, being made from polyamide nylon. The pants withstand extreme fluctuations in temperature, use, wear and tear.

The pants were sized appropriately, with the exception a being a wee bit long in the length of the legs. However, this is not a problem because I wear them with hiking boots, so it does not look bad. The pants have plenty of pockets on the hips and thighs, although I think the pockets could be a bit bigger. Notwithstanding, the pants are great. They haven't faded or torn, despite being worn in the hot climate of Iraq. If you want a good pair of pants with Bear Grylls named stamped on the side pocket, then get these. You can't go wrong! Best pair of hot weather/hiking & camping pants around.
