Oscar Worthy

It was OK but really over rated by almost everyone. It was ok but nothing we have not seen before. I might have squeezed out a 3 star but I was not really impressed with it . If your looking for a cute movie for the kids then its ok . Otherwise if your just a Sci Fi fan you might want to pass unless you like little kid stories . It tries hard at times but falls short of being taken serious ! Avatar: Making a Scene'

Leather Belt - carhartt, belts

I'm a 32 inch waist in just about everything and when I ordered I read that it said to go one size up (which I did, to 34)

Except when I got it it literally can go in one or two buckle holes before i feel like i'm in pain.

I think they way they size it is that 32 means it will touch tip-to-tip around a 32 in waist. Definitely go up 2-3 sizes when ordering.

Also, the leather is extremely rough and takes a very long time to form/bend. Danbury Men's 1 1/2" Basic Bridle Leather Work Belt,Black,34

This belt is a bit thinner than I expected, but it is nice otherwise. The grain is smooth and color consistent. Buckle feels a little cheap, but looks good and does the job. Good value for the money- went ahead and bought one in black too. I usually buy 34-36" waist in pants and the 38" belt is perfect. It cinches on the third hole, which gives just enough extra length to put the end through the loop on the belt and pants without being too long.

I purchased this belt to wear my "hippy" jeans - notice I didn't say "hippie"! I'm female and even though it's a men's belt, the size (34) and style are perfect as just a basic brown belt. After a few weeks of wear, it's softened up a bit and isn't quite as stiff as it was on day-1. Good value for the money.

Great simple, clean, strong belt, well done. I saw recommendations in "sizing" help and some reviewers say get 1, 2 or 3 sizes larger than what you need, and this is (currently) not correct, I ordered one 1 size larger (34), and the incorrect size (36) arrived and it was 2 sizes too large. Ordered a 32", perfect. The measurements are exact.

Finally!I tried ordering a few months back only to be sold out,now I have it.It's exactly what I wanted, and where I live I can't find one like it.When I was looking for one,I read reviews and this one had the criteria I want mine to have.I needed one for holding knife and machete sheaths, and durability is top priority with a close second going to appearance when it's not being used as a sheath holder. With the leather care products Amazon hooked me up with, this belt will last me awhile before I need to think about a replacement.I've always chose ones two sizes bigger to accomodate thicker setups like multiple pants. As always, thank you Amazon for the big help in this department. - Belts - Belt - Carhartt - Mens Leather'

Computer - p67, i5

I bought this as an upgrade for a stalwart Intel q6600 Core 2 Quad system I have been using for the past two years. My previous q6600 system was over-clocked (3.0ghz) and coupled with high performance parts to maximize efficacy. I figured this chip would be a MILD improvement over my aforementioned unit. Delightfully, I was WRONG.

The 2500k:

Saying this chip is a good "bang for the buck" is somewhat inaccurate. It's a sonic boom for the buck. It over-clocks to 4.5Ghz on air with moderate temperatures with a basic ($30) after-market air cooler and runs completly stable. I decided to run this chip on a daily basis at 4.0Ghz to preserve the longevity of its operation. This chip is excellent for use in programs like Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, and of course gaming. Providing you have an adequate video card this CPU simply WILL NOT let you down in intense graphic CPU-based games (Star Craft 2) or taxing programs (CS4+).

CONCLUSION:

This is an excellent chip with stellar price to performance ratio.

PRO's:

-Fantastic Value

-Runs Cool

-"K" edition is unlocked and easily overclocked

-Amazon's current pricing is in-line with the web's best.

-Loves to be overclocked with relatively low voltage.

CON's:

-No hyper threading (have to go to the i7 sandy bridge for HT)

-Does not make chocolate chip cookies or sing "Soft Kitty" to cheer you up when you are sick.

Bottom line:

Click the order button and make this baby yours. Unless you want the i7 for the hyper-threading capability (recommended for intense video editing, taxing multi-tasking and encoding). Kudos to Intel- this is a great architecture and worthy successor to their previous lines.

If you have any questions feel free to ask I will try to respond ASAP. Intel Core i5 Processor i5-2500K 3.3GHz 6MB LGA1155 CPU BOX80623I52500K

I got the i5 2500k at launch (1/9/2011) and I'm blown away by the performance. I'm upgrading from a core 2 duo 2.66. This gets a 7.5 in the Windows Experience Index (not over-clocked).

This thing runs cool with the stock fan and my standard $80 case with 3 fans. I have an ASUS mobo and used the OC wizard to get the turbo boost to 4.43ghz. Ran prime95 for 10 minutes with no issues, the cores got up to 50c on the hottest core. Even at that temp, I could barely hear the stock cpu fan at 2,000 rpm. The case fans run at 800 rpm.

My advice: save your money and buy this instead of i7 2600k. Use that money to get an SSD. Even a cheap kingston value series ssd will blow away your 7200rpm disk.

This chip (Intel's Sandy Bridge) is a significant step from the prior Intel i5/i7 model (Nehalem) in that it runs real cool, and is simple to overclock, and is fast. I have it comfortably OC'd at 4.5Ghz (from 3.3Ghz) with a $30 air cooled heatsink. Video encoding that used to take 90 minutes on my old 2.4Ghz dual core PC takes me 10 minutes on my new PC with this CPU. I NEVER OC'd before in my life, but this chip is simple to work with if you have a half decent motherboard. I just went into my bios and bumped the CPU multiplier from 33 to 45 and rebooted. Runs fast and cool at 1/4th the cost of the best Nehalm (in my opinion)! I tried it at higher multiples and it worked fine, but didnt see a significant improvement in encoding speeds, so I dropped it back down to 4.5Ghz to reduce unnecessary heat in my case. My CPU doesnt run hotter than 55 degrees at 100% load with a cool master hyper 212+ heatsink.

If you want or need hyperthreading, you can go with the i5-2500k's big brother, the i7-2600k. I read on the web that side by side tests suggested that the i7's hyperthreading didnt really make a significant impact in encoding speed versus this cpu, which is a main benefit of hyperthreading, so I decided to save the $80 and stick with the i5...

If you want a fast computer, its actually cheaper to replace your current mobo and get a new mobo and this CPU (all in maybe $400) than it is to go and buy a top of the line CPU that fits a 775 or 1156 chipset. Actually, I recommend doing that now that the Sandy Bridge SATA recall is over. For $150-$200 you can get a new mobo that not only supports this awesome chip, but also USB 3.0 and SATA 3 (6Gbps). Think about it!

The i5 2500k is by far the best purchase you could make when starting a new build.

Buy it with a new P67 mobo, and overclocking is literally the change of two digits in the bios. I am running it on air at 4.4ghz by simply changing the turbo multiplier to 44 and watching this chip just churn it out at stock voltages.

I ran prime95 for nine hours, logging 15000 temperature data points on each core. Averaging all the core temps together across the timeline, the cpu averaged 51C at max load with zero errors. That's what I call stable.

If you're reading this, you're already interested. Go buy it.

Pros:

Overclocking is mind-numbingly easy.

Price for performance is optimal.

Cons:

No hyperthreading

Does not make bacon

Caveat: If you're buying a new mobo with this chip DO NOT buy an Asus P67LE. Buy at least the deluxe or pro. Asus decided that manually regulating your core voltages is not needed in this base model. I learned the hard way, and will have to stick with stock voltages. :( - P67 - Computer - Sandy Bridge - I5'

Blackberry Case - leather case, blackberry case

I bought a universal BB Torch case about a week after the phone came out, there was nothing available. After months, I finally got this case. I have to say, it's an official BB case, it has the magnet to shut off the screen automatically and turn the screen on when you slide it out. The headphone jack is exposed but the buttons are covered. Luckly, the side of the case is soft enough that you can press the buttons to lower volume and change tracks. It's compact, durable, and the plastic belt clip does not dig into your gut. Great Buy. RIM BlackBerry Leather Swivel Holster - Holster bag for smartphone - leather - black - BlackBerry Torch 9800

As mentioned in other reviews the holster is very modern and very nice. I just wanted to add that some features of the blackberry Torch were not working in other holsters and did work in this one. I configured it to vibrate when inside the holster and was not previously working in the other one I had and worked correctly in this one. So, if you own a Torch this is THE holster for that model.

For me, the case fits. I like the style and the feel of the textured leather. It's light, flexible in the leather and solid at the clip. It was important to me that I get a holster instead of the hard case with no clip. I'm not someone with a purse and I don't like a lot of bulk in my pockets. The Torch fits very snugly and may have a little grip (due to the screen protector). There are no port holes so you can't charge it inside the case. However, it's cut so that the headphone jack and light indicator are available.

The only thing that upset me about this case is that it didn't come with the Torch in the first place. The cases that were offered on day 1 were expensive ($35 and $40) - two were hard cases and one was a very ugly holster. I chose to tough it out until a better holster came along. For me, this is the best holster available. I purchased a holster ($15) before that was similar to the Bold 9000 case. Although it was advertised as being for the Torch, it moved around quite a bit in the case. I literally lost the case 2 weeks after I got it. I am glad I did because this one is much better, anyway.

I'm not sure if I got a lemon or if this case is just poorly made. The leather is a lot more stiff than previous cases which I didn't care for but I could deal with it. However, the seam that holds the leather together along the flap is separating and coming undone after less than 1 month of use. I have had holsters for my Pearl and Curve and neither of those separated in the 1+ years that I wore those. I'm wearing the holster in the same place and not doing anything different which leads me to wonder about the leather quality. Hopefully the seller will be able to replace mine due to the poor quality.

Update: The seller sent a replacement holster which did the exact same thing as the first and it was even worse as it separated at the top of the holster and exposed the carboard inside. Do not purchase if you actually use your holster on your hip - it MIGHT be okay if you don't take your phone out much if ever and if you don't wear the holster.

I received a swivel holster that appears to be a thin, low quality knock-off. When compared with RIM part # HDW-31012-001 this case differs in:

1. material (thinner, cheaper)

2. shape (the curve/shape of the top edges are different)

3. thickness (feels very thin and less durable)

4. stitching (cheap silver thread, and there's no signature red stitch on the top edge of one side)

5. embossment (stamped with a silver paint, instead of an impression left by pressure)

6. inner lining (black vinyl with grey lettering, instead of grey cloth with solid reinforcement)

7. flap (thinner, wider, and sharper corners than oem

8. magnet (much weaker)

9. no original OEM tag with part # on the inside

It's probably a decent case, but it's not what I ordered.

Do not buy this. I noticed the material looked like vinyl but was thinking i'd try it for the price. This is not the same quality as the version I bought for my 8900 which still works and looks great. This for my new torch is JUNK it's falling apart after 3 months. Now ordinarily I am pretty rough on my gear but my holster is never the problem as my 8900 stopped working but still looked brand new as did it's holster from the same seller... TO the seller look at a real material (8900 holster) you sold me, it looks brand new. My 9800 holster 3 months old, the pictures i sent you, is falling apart.

I purchased this holster about four months ago. I absolutely love the look and style of this case and how perfectly my BlackBerry Torch fits inside.

BUT, four months later, my holster is falling apart. The top/back corners of the case (on both sides of the strap) have split open and are peeling apart.

The Blackberry Torch is cool, but I also love this BlackBerry Torch 9800 Series Leather Swivel Holster case. In the case, your Blackberry fits like a glove. It is very easy to maneuver your phone in and out of the case. My phone is very secure and, thus, I dont have to worry about getting any unwanted scratches. I also like the way the case secures tightly around my belt loop. Never again will I have to worry about misplacing or losing my phone (or in the case of a Blackberry, my investment). GET THIS CASE!!! :o)

One is it works great. It fits very snug and the clip with swivel works as it should.

And has the Black Berry logo on the front which gives it the Black Berry look.

No problems with this holster. And the price is outstanding..try finding a holster like this at AT&T for this price...doubt you will.

Would recommend this to anyone.

I like this case a lot. I tried using my old Bold case becaue one was not available right away and it was too loose and the BB fell out a couple of times. I recommend this case as its probably their best one yet. - Blackberry Case - Torch - Holster - Leather Case'

Brad Nailers - nailers, woodworking

I purchased this particular item because of its better range of brad sizes it can handle, and the Porter Cable name, good reviews, etc.

I have been using this nailer quite often, and am now left with several boxes of finish nails I will likely never use again. No more getting the nailsets out to bury a finish nail down on a piece of trim, etc.

The options for using this are endless. Just last night, I needed to make a couple wood boxes to hold scrap in my workshop area, and had some scrap 3/8" plywood, perfect for the boxes. Using this nailer, I could quickly apply a little glue, between corners of the box, and shoot a couple brads in and done. Can't do that with finish nails on plywood without splitting out alot.

Great tool, highly recommended, easy to handle. Porter-Cable BN200B 5/8-Inch to 2-Inch 18-Gauge Brad Nailer

I own many Porter-Cable tools. They have never failed or disappointed me.

I have an older version of this Porter-Cable nailer and it's a great nailer even after shooting well over 5,000 nails. Of all the tools in my shop, it's one of my favorites. Indispensible for woodworking and trim.

My first brad nailer was a no-name cheapo that shot maybe 100 nails before it was trash.

I purchased this one as a gift.

I am very impressed with this brad nailer. I tried different lengths of brads on different woods and everything worked great. I had no problem driving the brads all the way into the wood or by make a simple change to the depth adjustment, I could leave the heads up. The case is nice as well.

I bought the Porter Cable 18 ga. nailer to do some trim work around the house. I was so impressed that I also bought their 16 ga. nailer and framing nailer. To date, I've never had a jam and they've all worked perfectly. I've never owned any other nailer so I can't compare their performance, but since the Porter Cable's work so well, I have no reason to shop around.

After using the nailer for over a year a air leak started right at the bottom of the nailing housing opposite the trigger. I took the four hex screws out of the top cover and looked around. Investigation revealed a leak between the drive cylinder which runs vertical above the nail head and the gun housing. Instead of ordering a new O ring and seal,(parts number 116 and 118 on the Porter Cable web site) which i probably would have nicked trying to install and have a new leak, I bought a tube of silicon sealant and squeezed a thick half-inch coating of silicon around the outer edge of the cylinder and over the seal. Careful not to cover the cave in the handle where air is stored between shots or get any silicon on the little round trigger housing and let it set open for 24 hours. Put the top back on torquing the hex nuts tightly on the gasket and fired it up. Nails like new. The silicon is tough and should last a few years. Good little nailer. Enjoy, Dave

I read several articles with the majority rating the Hitachi and the PC as best values. I went with the PC since several people mentioned the noise of the Hitachi. May not be an issue if you're outside but inside - I could see the problem. Since purchasing, I have installed several door frames and trim and probably 600 feet of baseboard without a misfire or bad contact point. Granted, I've only shot 600 or so nails but reading reviews and articles from more experienced users, it's what you can expect. The nailer is lightweight, easy to use, and quiet for a pneumatic. One accessory I've come to enjoy is the provided cap to put over the air nipple. Most of my projects so far have involved high-levels of drywall and wood dust in the area. Being able to cap the nipples when the nailer is not in use is great. So is the provided belt hook for when exchanging out the nailer for my PC stapler. When using, keep your air pressure above 75psi. Anything below that and you'll notice the nails will not be flush with your surface. I can't speak for the durability of this nailer but for the time I have owned and used it and my history with other PC products, I consider it a very good product for the price and have no reason to believe it will falter.

The Good: This gun is great. It goes along great with my PC 16ga nailer which is well over 13 years old and still going strong. It has great features in a compact lightweight frame. I use it primarily for trim and and wood furniture. Free shipping and Price are also nice.

The Not So Good: make sure when using 2" nails that you are using the right size. Some 2" nails are 50mm and some are 51mm. This gun only accepts up to 50mm. The PC Brand 2" nails are 51mm!!! Kind of silly that the products are incompatible even though both made/labeled PC. I spoke with PC and they avoided the aspect of incompatibility and simply said 51mm may cause unwanted operation.

The Bad: Amazon is extremely slow at shipping. Waited over a week for it to finally ship then 4 days shipping time. Yeah I know it's free shipping, but even the slowest shipping method doesn't take that long.

After weeks and weeks of research and frustration when reading all the Amazon reviews on brad nailers and thinking I found the 5 star gun to buy, only to get turned off by one lousy 1 star review, and agononizing over whether I should spend $90 on a tool I'll rarely use, I finally bit the bullet and ordered this Porter Cable BN200B. It was delivered in great condition in only 4 days with free shipping. Had a nice hard plastic storage case, but they ddn't make the relief fit the belt clip on the nailer very well. You have to svivel it around to get the case to close properly, and even then it seems out of place. I've fired off about 100 of the 1.5" brads they include in the kit, and it worked great. Never misfired once and all were countersunk correctly. My only complaint is that they made the nail clip out of plastic, instead of aluminum. Come on guys, even the cheap Harbor Freight guns have aluminum clips. - Nailers - Woodworking'

Impact Drivers - cordless, 18 volt

Not long ago a friend gave me an extra DeWalt 18 volt drill he'd come into. I'd been using a 12 volt Makita for over a decade, and I was impressed with how much more torque and battery life the DeWalt had. The same friend also had a DeWalt impact driver from the same series, and again, I was impressed how well this handled mechanical tasks usually relegated to a pneumatic impact driver. But even more impressive was how well the DeWalt worked for driving screws.

A few years ago, the major cordless tool makers started to come out with impact drivers which they marketed not to mechanics, but to carpenters. While today's 18volt cordless drills do a pretty good job of driving screws, they still start to bog down when driving really long screws into hard or resinous wood. The slow, stall, and eventually overheat. But impact drivers don't do this. They work on a different principle, using a motor-driven hammer to repeatedly strike an anvil that drives the output shaft. As the load increases, they switch from spinning to a rapid-fire staccato impact mode, in which every impact turns the screw a bit farther, while the motor continues to spin and bring in cooling air.

I was very pleased to discover that Amazon had a DeWalt impact driver available in a batteryless and caseless package (for those of us who already have a charger and several batteries) for about $125. I purchased mine for a mix of yard projects- this is a great tool for driving the big screws used to tie landscape timbers together- home projects, and motorcycle/scooter maintenance. And amazingly, it's even lighter and more compact than the DEWALT DC759KA Heavy-Duty 18-Volt Ni-Cad 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit. I'm giving away my Makita 12v drill/driver to a nephew who likes tools and gadgets, and switching 100% to the DeWalt system. Bare-Tool DEWALT DC825B 1/4-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Impact Driver (Tool Only, No Battery)

I bought this last year after my Black and Decker 18v drill died it's 3rd death. I got it in a 4 tool combo kit on sale at Lowes. I build haunted houses for the Halloween season so most of what I do construction wise is with rough and sometimes very old and hard woods. The woods are also made super tough (like rock) from a chemical that must be sprayed on them to make them fire retardant. I found that before, even with an 18v drill that screws would shear off before going into the boards which made it difficult to make secure connections in the wood. It is hard to make something look old and spooky and still have it be safe so having good, solid tools is a must. Right after I charged the battery I tried this tool out. Wow!! It drove a 3 inch deck screw into an old hardened 2x4 in the blink of an eye!! I had never used a tool like that. It quickly became a favorite of mine on the jobsite. I used it hard and it never once let me down. I bought it toward the end of the build so I only got to use it on a few hundred screws but never a disappointment. I'm looking forward to using on this season's build as well as in my volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity. I would highly recommend this tool to anyone who builds.

I bought this tool to add to my dewalt collection. I have had the 18volt dill for years and did'nt think that I need an impact driver. I was wrong. I am using the impact more that the drill for driving large screws. It make the jobs much easier. The driver was shipped by a third party and I received it in just a few days. I was very impressed. This is an excellent tool if you do lots of repair work with 2 by lumber.

I have long been a loyal DeWalt costumer, especially when in comes to cordless tools like the 18v drill I purchased 6 years ago. That drill quickly became my favorite tool and has seen constant use since. In fact I was so happy with the drill that I did not see any reason to buy an impact driver, until a couple of projects I was working on required me to drive a large number of constuction screws and lag bolts. My drill was able to drive them but not as easily or quickly as I would have liked, so I decided it was time to give the impact driver a try and my only regret it that I did not buy one sooner. This driver is by far the best power tool I have ever owned. It is absolutely necessary for driving lag screws or anything comparable but also preforms so much better in less demanding tasks like running deck screws. I have discovered that it is also quite handy for boring large holes even though that is not the intent behind the tool. If you put an Irwin Speedbore bit in this thing it will chew through 4 by lumber in no time. Using the driver for boring has saved my wrist on a number of occasions as those Speedbore bits require quite abit of torque to run and if the bit binds up while using a regular drill all that torque gets transferred to your wrist. Now that I have a set of Irwin Speedbore and Spade bits plus a decent hex drill bit set my drill is relegated to drilling metal and the occasional pilot hole.

This driver is also much better at removing rusty and stripped screws than my drill, just another unexpected bonus.

Without exception this is the one tool that goes with me to every job. - 18 Volt - Cordless - Dewalt - Impact Drivers'

Health Monitors - walking, weight loss

After using the Oregon Scientific pedometer with pulse meter (disaster - clip broke in 90 days, unit rendered useless) - I decided to go for a more utilitarian unit. Other than the batteries' demise, this unit has been quite usefull. The clip is stronger than my previous model; and testing with a 1 mile tracks shows the unit is off about 2.5%, which is not bad. While a little sparse on features, it gives you what you basically need; # of steps; distance; # of calories expended. If you are looking for basic, good value, this could be your winner. Omron HJ-105 Pedometer with Calorie Counter

I have had this Pedometer for over 6 months and have had no problems.

When I bought the pedometer I was starting a personal program to help me get into better shape. The pedometer was easy to configure to match my step size and the built in clock was convenient. Within about 10-15 minutes I was out walking and it was measuring distance and number of steps.

The Pedometer comes with instructions for setting your step size so that it measures correctly when you walk. The price has stayed very consistent, so don't look for it to go down.

Before purchasing you might consider that McDonalds recently was running a promotion to encourage people to purchase their healthier meals. They had adult happy meals that included healthy items and came with a pedometer. Also, some local stores (such as Walmart) might have pedometers for less than the price for this one. I can't speak to the durability of those items and considering my sucess with the Omron Pedometer I might just spend a few more dollars to get something that I know is a good product.

After having three $20 Sportline pedometers break on me (in various ways) in less than two weeks each, I found the Omron in a Kaiser Permanente pharmacy (for more than Amazon charges). After a month, I'm delighted with it. For one thing, it hasn't broken. It measures steps, aerobic steps, distance traveled, and calories burned. There's a + and - adjustment that lets you fine-tune the sensitivity. It resets itself to zero at midnight, and keeps a 7-day memory of all your data. I consider it well worth the money.

It is so rare to find consumer electronics where the manufacturer takes pains with every little detail, that I was pleasantly surprised by this pedometer. At the price, it is a minor work of genius.

First off, the thing actually works, which right away puts it in the top 10% of pedometers. The casing is lightweight and attractive, with a secure clip.

You must take a few minutes to set it up, but the task is much simplified by a well-written, thorough, and easy-to-follow owner's manual.

First, you set the clock. The only thing the clock really does is to reset the device at midnight every day.

Second, you set your weight. This enables it to calculate calorie expenditures.

Third, you set your "stride length", which enables it to calculate distance traveled from the number of steps.

Finally, you clip it on, take 100 or 200 steps, and then check it for accuracy. If the number of steps recorded is not the same as the steps taken, there is a sensitivity setting you can adjust.

There are four screens you can view in succession by pressing a button: Total steps taken, total mileage walked, total "aerobic" mileage walked and the time it took, and total calories expended by walking for the day. I haven't taken pains to assess its accuracy, other than the steps counted, because I don't really care if it records 2 miles when I've walked 2.03. It is certainly close enough to precise measurement for my taste.

The aeorbic steps feature is nice -- you can wear it all day, and if you take an "exercise walk" you don't have to reset it.

I'm delighted with my purchase.

The Omron HJ-105 Pedometer is a marvel of modern technology. Once properly set and calibrated, it will give you accurate readings for your steps, aerobic steps, calories and miles on a daily basis with a seven-day memory. It is easy to set, simple to read and not encumbered by unnecessary features. True, this is a basic model, but I certainly don't mind paying a small sum for an instrument devoid of frills but which does the job. I simply do not need the pedometer to "talk" to me for an additional 20 or 30 bucks. If you're looking for an honest, well-made and designed pedometer, this one may be just right for you.

This product has a very "toy like" feel. The case is flimsy, the buttons feel funny, just toy-like. It only works when positioned horizontally on

your belt. Seems to work OK, but don't dare drop it or it'll break. The light plastic case has a heavy metal weight glued inside.

Why not spend $8 more for the superb Omron HJ-112? The HJ-112 has dual pendulums inside so it counts accurately whether on your belt or in your pocket. And it's built like a tank.

It works great so far. I especially like the aerobic count feature. It keeps track of aerobic steps separate from those steps that are taken in just casually walking around from room to room or other short distances. It seems pretty accurate. - Weight Loss - Exercise - Fitness - Walking'

Jewelry Design - jewelry, jewelry design

This book is quite interesting. It showcases the works of top metalsmiths. This is a juried collection. The pieces were chosen by Talya Baharal. She is an award-winning art jeweler. There is quite a varied collection of styles in this book and the jewelry is very beautiful. Most of the pieces are contemporary or avante-garde. Some of the pieces are quite bizarre. Things you might find in a museum maybe, but you would never see anyone wear in real life. But, as they say, art (beauty) is in the eye of the beholder.

Although this is not my favorite "500" book, I did enjoy it and found lots of inspiration in it. 500 Silver Jewelry Designs: The Powerful Allure of a Precious Metal (500 Series)

"500 Silver Jewelry Designs" beautifully presents 500 silver creations in a wide verity of styles, that range from classic to outlandish. Many of these pieces are closer to sculpture than jewelry and quite honestly more than few really are not practical for daily wear.

This is also not an instructional guide and it is often difficult to see how the piece was made, but there are a lot of pieces that have provided inspiration for my own jewelry. The presentation and photography are absolutely outstanding, making this a delight to page through for enjoyment and possible ideas.

Note: I revived a review copy from the publisher, but this in no way reflects my rating.

This is the 11th Lark jewelry books I've bought. I have the 500 series and even a 1000 book too. Each has their own flair based on who has curated the collection. This collection is interesting in that the juror has picked a lot of cutting edge and progressive pieces. I have to say I don't agree 100% with her picks. Some artists make to satisfy their customers, some make for themselves, some make for other artists. A lot of the pieces included are, dare I say, ugly. They feature silver in unconventional ways, true, but not necessarily beautiful ways. A lot of pieces look deconstructed, which makes for a cool coffee-table book, but as a jewelry artist, this kind of work is not the most inspiring to me. I would say about 10% of the pieces are truly beautiful and a marvel of technique, composition, skill and finesse. The other 90% in my humble opinion are barely wearable, not recognizable as jewelry (or silver) and not very attractive. I think pieces can be cutting edge, but can't they be beautiful, too? I'm all for making art for art's sake, but many of these pieces were hard to visually connect with, some hard to emotionally or intellectually connect with as well. The piece on the cover fits exactly into that 10% I'm talking about- gorgeous, technique-savvy, and appealing. Most of the other pieces are not, in my opinion. Not sure I'd recommend the book, but it was very reasonably-priced, so I went for it. I did get some great ideas in looking at the 10% gorgeous examples, but was kind of disappointed with the other choices.

Silver offers a subtle, more subdued appearance to its gaudier cousin gold. "500 Silver Jewelry Designs: The Powerful Allure of a Precious Metal" is a guide for those who seek to work with silver to create creative and beautiful designs of their own creation. With plenty of inspiration to draw from, the people at Lark crafts present hundreds of full color photographs to take ideas from to seek what fits them, whether they are seeking to buy or create their own accessories. "500 Silver Jewelry Designs" is a sage read for jewelry lovers, highly recommended.

The book is interesting to look at but its more of a coffee table book. The designs are not for realistic wear. I found them to be based on what people might wear if they are attending a party on another planet.

This is one of about 4 of the 500 series books that is not what I would call a good representation of sellable jewelry. Most of the designs were so far out of what I think my customers would buy and more suitable to be thrown off floats in New Orleans. It has already been returned for a refund. The 500 Gemstone Jewels, Masters Gold, and Masters Gemstones, all Lark series publications are more suited to my taste in the jeweler's Art. - Gemstone - Jewelry - Jewelry Making - Jewelry Design'

Docking Station - ipod clock radio, iphone

I was looking for a radio that supports my iTouch and iPhone, looks modern, has a small footprint on my desk, and sounds good. I got all of those features. The only feature I did not get was an audio out so that I could plug in my external speakers. Hence, only four stars. I use Pandora and other iTouch apps that play music, and they all work seamlessly. The sound is remarkably good, especially considering the size. Also a plus is the support that stabilizes the iTouch when it is docked. You don't feel like you will break off the connectors when you push on the iTouch. Philips DC315/37 Speaker System for iPod/iPhone with LED Clock Radio (Black)

There are plenty iPhone docking stations out there and some are quite expensive... so why not add a radio to it and a device from which you can easily use the iPhone as well?

Here were the criteria I went by:

1) Below $100

2) Easy to use Radio docking station

3) Slick design to put on my desk - not too big but yet suitiable to put on the desk with decent sound quality

4) While listening to music from the iPhone the music should stop playing so that I can take a call AND after the call is over I want to get the music to be turned back on where it stopped

5) Easy to use the iPhone from the docking station to dial numbers without breaking anything (most of the docking stations are a bit clunky when you try to put in the iPhone and then try to call people - you always have to use two hands to ensure the iPhone doesnt break anything on the docking connection).

After using it for a few weeks now all of the creteria are met in my opinion.

My biggest liking is actually how easy I can plug my iPhone into the radio docking station and can actually use the phone, look up contacts, do calls, etc with just one hand. Since it is right next to me I can simply use one hand to operate this little device. Unfortunatley (and I hope to see this feature in the future) the radio speakers are not turned on when someone calls... but I have the staion in arms length and the iPone speaeker do a good job or alternatlively I use the headset.

Also I use the iPhone as a wireless radio and with the iPhone in the docking station it becomes my wirelss radio so to speak. I have Pandora and other online radion service through the Apps provided by Apple. And in that instance the speakers do work!

And if I dont want to listen to internet or online radion stations I can easily switch with one button (the source button) to either an external MP3 Player, or the local FM radio stations.

The sound is quite descent but don't expect an super stereo and deep bass experience. But you can always attach bigger speakers later if you like.

So overall for $80 you get a stylish looking docking station for the iPhone and you can making calls from it, listening to online or local radion stations while charging your iPhone at the same time.

I bought this unit as a replacement for a Philips DC320 that I had brought home from a local Best Buy and returned within a week (you can find my entertaining review of that thing on the Best Buy site). The DC315 overcomes the major failing of the other unit by providing a readable display that doesn't flood the room with light. In fact the display here is rather beautiful with a nice color and an interesting but still legible font. Actually the entire unit is very attractive with the large glossy black face and the design motif which mimics and blends very well with the iPhone making you just want to look at it. It doesn't take up a lot of real estate, but the large face makes a dramatic impact nonetheless. The display has three brightness settings with a good range, but does not automatically adjust for ambient light. Fortunately even the brightest is not unacceptable to sleep with in a dark room, and the middle one is still very visible in daylight.

As with the other unit I like the alarm with it's ascending volume. It is the gentlest wake-up I've gotten from a machine. The sound is pretty good overall with some amount of bass and decent balance. However although the sound is better than a typical clock radio, it is not as quite as good as the DC320 in terms of detail and stereo imaging. But it is able to play louder than the DC320 without gross bass distortion. There are some other issues. One of the segments in the secondary display below the clock doesn't work. Fortunately it is in a position that is only used for radio frequency displays and I can live with it considering the annoyance of returning a mail ordered item (another review of a similar Philips item I read cites a similar display problem - interesting). As with the other unit the snooze bar is right next to and feels exactly like the button to reset the alarm for the next day which is risky when you are half asleep and trying to get another nine minutes in the morning. I will probably modify one button somehow so it feels different. It requires a fair amount of force to properly seat the iPhone in the dock so that it will charge. Unfortunately with the physical design of this item the force required causes the entire unit to tip forward. Stabilizing it with your other fingers on the top of the unit always results in unwanted buttons being pushed. A small pad behind the iPhone (or iPod) adjusts in and out to allow the right angle and support to be achieved with the iProduct you are using. Unfortunately again the adjustment is by a cheap feeling plastic knob in the back which is quite loose and will not stay where you put it. It doesn't appear that the unit has a battery backup for power outages, although I haven't actually tested this yet. And last, and probably worst, the alarm only goes for a half an hour, including snoozes! So if you hit the snooze more than 3 times, then 3 minutes into the last snooze period the alarm simply turns off without warning, leaving you snoozing. Honestly I don't know where Philips found an engineer to design this who had never used an alarm clock.

So this unit certainly isn't perfect, exhibiting a quirkiness and so-so design quality that appears to be characteristic of Philips electronics. I could probably get a much more feature-rich and better designed product for a similar price. But the style is great, especially compared with other iDocks available, it is usable as an alarm clock, and the sound quality is really pretty decent. So I will keep this one I guess. - Docking Station - Radio - Iphone - Ipod Clock Radio'

Battery Charger - nimh, eneloop

[Updated Oct 24, 2008]

My original review on the Sanyo eneloop NiMH cells was written nearly two years ago. Since then, I have learned a lot more about the characteristics about eneloop and other low-self-discharge cells. So it is time to clear up some inaccurate information I wrote about eneloop's self-discharge rate.

1. I was told that the Sanyo eneloop cells were not 100% fully charged when they leave factory. This makes sense because new cells are fast-charged in the factory to save time. In order to avoid problem with heat and gas built-up, they cannot be charged to 100%. I have tested some eneloop cells that were manufactured 20 months ago, and they still maintained about 70% charge. On the other hand, cells manufactured 6 months ago contain about 75% charge. This confirmed that the discharge rate is much lower than I previously estimated.

2. The self-discharge rate of eneloop (and other LSD cells) is not linear! My own testing showed that a fully charged eneloop may lose 10% of its initial charge during the first month of storage, but in the second months it may lose just 2-3%. The rate becomes even slower after three months. In fact, my 5-month self-discharge test using various brands of LSD cells gave nearly identical results as my previous 3-month test.

3. When an eneloop cell is freshly charged, its capacity actually measures at about 5% higher than its rated capacity (2100mAh vs. 2000mAh). In my previous tests, I used measured capacity as base to calculate the percentage loss. This results in apparently higher percentage loss. Had I used the rated capacity as base value, the self-discharge rate would be about 5% lower.

Based on the above revelation, I believe Sanyo's claim about eneloop (maintain 85% charge after one year, 80% after two year) to be accurate. Therefore the title of my previous review ("The News of LSD Has Been Slightly Exaggerated") has to be replaced.

Over the past two years, I have tested several different brands of LSD cells available from Amazon.com, including Rayovac Hybrid, Kodak Pre-Charged, and Duracell Pre Charged. They have all performed very well - practically no difference from the Sanyo eneloop. So the bottom line is: just pick which ever brand of LSD cell is on sale, and you can't go wrong.

[Update on April 21, 2011]

- After testing and using various brands of LSD cells over the past four years, Sanyo eneloop cells have proven to be the most reliable and consistent of them all. I now have to recommend Sanyo eneloop over all others brands.

- Recently Amazon started to offer the SANYO NEW 1500 eneloop cells, at around 25% higher price. In my testing, the improvement of the new eneloop over the original is hardly noticeable. So you'll have to decide whether it is worthwhile to pay the extra cost. Sanyo Eneloop 4 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargable Batteries w/ Charger

[IMPORTANT NOTE]

My original review below was written back in 2007, when the Sanyo eneloop first became available

through Amazon.com. Part of my initial estimation about eneloop's self-discharge rate turns out to be inaccurate. Please see my other Amazon spotlight review for updated information.

[Original Review follows]

According to Sanyo, the new eneloop LSD (low self-discharge) NiMH batteries can maintain 85% of its original charge after 1 year of storage. This claim is slightly misleading, because it is based on simulation test at 20 degree C. At higher temperature, the self-discharge rate is likely to be much higher.

I have tested five of those AA cells (details are given in my review for the eneloop 4-pack). The average energy loss is about 26% after less than 6 months of storage, based on manufacturer date codes. This self-discharge rate is about 3 times higher than what Sanyo claimed. However, it is still 6 times lower than that of ordinary NiMH batteries. Therefore I'm in the process of replacing most of my existing rechargeable cells to the Sanyo eneloop.

Thanks to lower self-discharge rate, you'll discover a lot more applications for eneloop cells in your house, such as in clocks and remote controls. Do NOT use those cell in smoke detectors, since their discharge voltage profile is very different from that of alkaline cells. Also, don't use them as emergency flash lights batteries in your car, because the higher temperature during summer time will probably nullify the advantage of LSD.

[Update on Jan 13, 2007]

I have tested six new eneloop AAA cells, dated "2006-06'. The average residue charge is 589mAh, and the freshly charged capacity is 827mAh. This implies a self-discharge rate of 29% in 7 months, which is consistent with the rate for AA cells (26% loss in 6 months).

[Update on Jan 29, 2007]

The Rayovac "Hybrid" rechargeable NiMH batteries are now available at Walmart, priced at only $[...] for 4-pack of AA or AAA cells. It is also advertised to have low self-discharge rate, but not as low as that for eneloop. The eneloop is supposed to retain 85% charge in 12 months (when stored at 20 degree C), whereas Hybrid is supposed to retain 80% charge in 6 months (no mention of temperature).

[Update on June 3, 2007]

In my 2-month self-discharge test using four different brands of NiMH cells. Hybrid and eneloop came up neck-and-neck!

Room temperature: 60-62 degree F (16-17 degree C). All capacities measured are average of 2-cells.

- Sanyo eneloop 2000, purchased Jan 2007.

Initial capacity measured: 2070mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1796mAh (-13.2%)

(Note: my previous result for eneloop showed -18%, but I repeated the test and it did better this time)

- Rayovac Hybrid 2100, purchased Jan 2007.

Initial capacity measured: 2155mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1859mAh (-13.8%)

- LaCrosse 2000, purchased Jan 2006.

Initial capacity measured: 1902mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1417mAh (-26%)

- SONY 2300, purchased Sep 2004.

Initial capacity measured: 2210mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1309mAh (-41%)

So neither eneloop nor Hybrid did as well as advertised, but they are still significantly better than previous generation of NiMH cells. So you can't go wrong with either brand. - Nimh - Battery - Battery Charger - Eneloop'

Sterling Silver - sterling silver

I purchased this chain for the sole purpose of using it to display a pendant approximately 3/4" in diameter. I give the dimensions of the pendant so that anyone who intends to purchase this chain may know that this fine piece of jewelry is more than up to the task. The chain itself is quite sturdy, despite its delicate construction. The chain is light enough that I rarely notice its presence. I sleep wearing this necklace, shower wearing it, and it holds up to daily wear admirably. The design appears to be very knot resistant, which I like very much. All told, I would definitely recommend this necklace, especially for the purpose of hanging a pendant. You won't be disappointed. Sterling Silver Fine Cable Nickel Free Chain Necklace Italy 22 Inch

I bought this chain for my two and a half year old grand-daughter. I had a small charm to hang on it. It is beautiful and delicate. The 14" is perfect for a child and after seeing it I ordered a 16" for myself. On the neck it is so delicate it is barely there except when you move it sparkles, perfect if you want to showcase a special pendant.

I haven't had this item for too long, but so far it's proven to be a good-quality chain. It's shiny, yet delicate and subtle and doesn't distract from my pendants. A great product at a great price. I'll probably purchase the same chain in a longer length.

I got this for my mother in-law's birthday it's a beautiful chain I'm so glad I got this one the charm I had gotten for her looked great with it.If you need a chain I'd get this one.It came real fast.Everybody in the family loved it and my mother in-law thanked me more than once.I will use this seller again.

This chain is really pretty and the length is good. It is really delicate, so I haven't found a pendant that I can wear it with. If you are looking for a very delicate chain, this is it. If you want something to wear with a pendant, pick something else.

I bought this necklace to compliment a pendant I had recently bought for my girlfriends birthday (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001I8A300). The pendant is beautiful, but the chain that came with it was just a cheap steel one. I was on a tight budget, so I settled for this and am very impressed with it. When I received it, the first thing I did was clean and polish it. The sparkle it gives off is very beautiful and elegant, much like the girl I'm giving it too. Needless to say, there's nothing to complain about for only ten dollars and it's such a huge improvement from the chain before. I look forward to seeing the look on my girlfriends face when I give it to her. - Sterling Silver'

Weighted Gloves - ankle weights, weights

I bought 2 of these right b4 xmas so i could start my new work-out in 09 looking good. i have the 2lb and 3lb one. These are extremelly comfortable, a bit bulky at first but as you use them they sort of break in a bit and don't look as huge around your hands. They are filled with sand (as it appears to me) which makes it so comfortable around the wrists and don't feel as heavy, at least in my experience as compared to the ones filled with iron. The inside of it (the part that touches the skin) it's amazing. It is soft with a velvety towel type material which absorbs the excess water from when working out. The think that attracted me to them is that it is very stylish and very feminine (for a change) for a women fitness.

The colors i would say fit in the pastel category, they aren't as bright as the computer seems to show it.

I bought the ankle weights also (3lb one, since its my first time using ankle weights to work out in and don't want to kill myself - but had tried a few) and i have to say they have the same qualities as of the wrist weights. They are the best also, very comfortable doesn't slide up or down your ankles and the best think is that is has two slots that you can adjust to fit around your ankles which is perfect.

Overall, i love Savasa fitness equipment because of the colors and how everything you buy from the line matches with one another. The main color is grey which is a big ++ because im really kinda tired of black all the time for work-out items.

I will come back eventually for the 1 lb one to challenge myself for when i lift weights/bar (since my gym bar max lb is 12). Great work savasa, please continue on providing stylish confortable equipment fitness for women and see also if you guys can come up with a clothing line also - like pratical sports bra for women (that don't have your brests hurting afterwards) because who knows an active women best if not Savasa? That would be great if not so much to ask. Savasa for Women 6-Pound Wrist Weights with SPT Workout DVD (3 Pound Each, 6-Pound Total)

I ordered these because I thought it would be nice to be able to do aerobic workouts without holding a 3 lb weight in my hand. Also- the stretchy round weights that you slide over your hand onto your wrist have been said to either be too tight, or stretch out pretty quickly, so I though the velcro adjustable closure on these would be a perfect solution to a strap-on or slide-on wrist weight. Now...all that being said, here's my experience: I do find that these move around a bit on your wrists. The thumb hole does keep them from sliding UP your arm, but still they keep moving around, especially towards the hand no matter how tight I try to velcro them closed (not easy to velcro these tightly yourself with only your other hand). And I don't yet know how they wash, since I haven't tried to wash them (I'll do an update once I do!)- but I can see from the type of absorbant material that pretty soon you'd want to be able to wash them. I was thinking that it would have been better - from a drying/hygiene consideration and a better fit standpoint- if the material containing the weighted beads was neoprene and stretchy, versus sweatsuit cottony (which is what they are). Finally I also ordered the smaller weight sizes at the same time, but they were backordered. I'm guessing that this style may work better with a the lighter weights and will let you know if I'm right once I get them. Until then, I'm pretty neutral on these and can't really recommend.

Update 8/13/09: I did finally get these in the 1 pound size and really like them. Comfortable and DON'T move around your arm. So- I DO recommend these in the lighter weight size!

They are very comfortable and stay on your wrist with the thumbhole. I don't drop them even though my right hand is paralyzed. How cool is that? I use them for ankles too. If you are creative you can come up with different exercises and use them when you watch the telly! I've used them for months.

I am truly disappointed with this product. I purchased it based on the good reviews, and I am returning the favor so you don't buy it.

The weights are too small for my hands. I do not have overly large hands (I'm not a behemoth), however I am 5' 10", so perhaps if you are shorter and have smaller hands, they will fit well.

The weights came with no instructions, only a "miniature" CD, one that does not work with my mac.

I tried putting them on several time several different ways (and no I do not have left and right mixed up). I kept looking at the tiny picture on the box to see if I had it right. I eventually settled on a fit that cut off the circulation to my thumbs and looked very awkward, and based on the tiny picture and my above average IQ, I am fairly sure it was correct.

The weights, when on, stick out about an inch from your hand. The velcro is not secure enough to keep the weight snugly in place once you start moving your arm, and that is, after all, the point. I was expecting them to fit like a wrist guard you might wear while roller-blading with extra bulk around the shell. Not the case at all.

I wouldn't consider my wrists to be any smaller than average and these wrist weights are impossible to get tight enough. I think there's an insufficient amount of Velcro on them. Other than that, they're fine.

I was hoping to use these during step aerobics to give myself some arm resistence. I bought the 2-pounders. They are very cute. But they are bulky so there is no way to really secure them well around the wrist. During aerobics movements they slide and jerk around like crazy. The thumb loop doesn't actually help much. In fact it gets away and annoys my thumb tendons. I returned to my ugly old weights that just velco on tight around the wrist.

These are probably fine for slower movements like toning or speed walking with arm weights. But they're not good for air punching, etc. - Ankle Weights - Exercise - Wrist Weights - Weights'
