Brad Nails
These are fairly soft as brads go, but at this length, deflection is not a major problem. You do still have to be careful, though. These are fine for smaller chores, like fastening thin shelves in dadoes or applying trim moldings. They hold well, but are tough to remove if you misfire. B & C Eagle B18-1 1-Inch 18 Gauge Galvanized Finish Brad Nail (5,000 per Box)
I haven't tried these yet, hence the neutral score, but I suspect Derek's problems might have been due to trying to use 18 gauge nails in a 16 gauge finish nailer (FN250A). No wonder they would misfire.
Sometimes you need just a fairly short brad and these will fit the bill. They are fairly inexpensive and work just fine for those times when a short fastener is all you need. Not a whole lot one can say about brads but you can't go wrong with these.
These nails are not of the quality necessary for the Porter-Cable Finish Nailer that they are typically advertised with (FN250A and others). They sometimes came out 2 at a time, not at all, or caused the nailer to jam. I called Porter-Cable, and acquired their nails, and the problems went away. I would not recommend these nails, especially for this nailer.'

Manicure Sets - pedicure set, pedicure kit
Bought this for my wife after she had requested one for Mother's Day. She expected the standard $19.99 model from the local specialty store. She is delighted with this kit. Much more powerful and versatile than her past kits. Great product. Body Toolz Electric Manicure Pedicure Kit
Hi, I've been trying similar products for many years and find that the battery operated manicure products are just no good at all for me. I may as well use an emery board. This product, while not very strong, is good and does the job quickly. My problem is enlarged toe nails that can only be cut by a podiatrist. Using this product over several times solved everything, and I now don't have to hide my toenails. merrilyninforesthills pussycats2@verizon.net
Happy with the product. Good price for what it does. Don't care for the flat tool for filing nails; the plastic ridge gets in the way. But I bought it mainly for pedicures anyway and the rest of the tools work fine. Problem with other manicure kits was the rechargeable battery quitting long before it should. Hope this one lasts longer.
I used this product for the first time this past weekend and was delighted with the results. I try to pamper myself every weekend with a home manicure and pedicure and with this product I was able to achieve very professional results! - Pedicure - Pedicure Set - Nail Tools - Pedicure Kit'

Weight Lifting Glove - weight lifting glove, glove
I am very pleased with my purchase of the Valeo Wrist Wrap Lifting gloves - though I do not use them for lifting. Rather, I am in a manual wheelchair and these gloves, with the full 3/4 length on the fingers and the incredible soft, "sticky" leather helps me to move my wheelchair with ease and comfort - and the double thick leather in the palm and "thumb cradle" makes for long lasting performance. I have, and still do, recommend these gloves to other wheelchair bound people who use manual chairs.
Furthermore, the service I recieved from Amazon was first rate. Fair pricing, quick shipping and on-time delivery made this a most enjoyable experience. Valeo Competition Wrist Wrap Lifting Gloves (Large)
These gloves work for there specific purpose I've had them for only two months and the strap is starting to tear. If you are into serious competition these aren't the gloves for you but for getting in shape and basic weightlifting they work fine.
I owned these gloves for 2 years. Never had a major problem with stitching. They are comfortable gloves, especially the padding on the palm for heavy benching. At first I didn't like the wrist strap, but now I can see how it stablizes the wrist and I like it a lot.
Only downside is that the leather around the fingers do curl/crunch up a bit after 2 years use and I often find myself straightening it out.
But for the price on Amazon - you could buy a pair every year and it's a pretty good price!
The gloves were comfortable. However, the seaming along the fingers came apart within two weeks and less than 5 uses. Unless you only plan to use these gloves for a week or less, invest your money in a different pair. They were a very big disappointment to me.
I gave these 4 stars because of the size. The quality is decent. I'm 5'6 and have average to slightly small hands for my height, but these glove are definitely loose but wearable. When concentrating on lifting weights i am detracted so i don't really notice it, but I measured my hands for the sizing guide and it said xs was 6-7 inches across below the knuckles. Anyway, my measurement was a solid 7 so i almost ordered a size up and glad i didn't. I like a more snug fitting glove and these have creases and wrinkles when i wear them and the fingers are loose, but for $10 I'm not sending them back. Next time i will buy exclusively a woman's glove.
The leather on these gloves feels like plastic and the thumb portion doesn't extend far enough to protect your skin on the inside of your thumb - a spot that needs covering whenever you grip something. Overall, I am not satisfied with these gloves.
These would appear to be great for the price: leather, washable, wrist wraps-- all very impressive. The only problem is, if you frequent the gym like I do, they just don't last long enough. I use the gloves probably four days a week for an hour each day (I don't use wear them on leg days or when doing cardio), and probably wash them every three weeks, and let's just say they aren't the best stitched gloves. One pair I bought actually lasted me six months, but the replacement only made it to six months after I got my wife to sew up all the rips. On my third pair, they are not looking good after two months. These will do the job for light usage, but I'm going to treat myself and try to find something that lasts longer.
For some reason, when I was lifting, my wrist were being pressured by some of my sets. I brought these and the price is right as well. I just got them today and wore them. They look the pressure off my wrist and gave me more support just like it should. Yeah I'll will buy them again when I need new ones. - Best Price - Gym - Weight Lifting Glove - Glove'

Sony Walkman Dfj041cd - personal cd player, portable cd
This is one of the best CD players I've used. I listen to a lot of Books on Tape and this player picks up exactly where you leave off even if you stop it to do something else for awhile. It's fairly good about playing scratched CDs and has not jumped while I have been working out in the yard or walking with it. The ear phones are OK but get bit irritating after wearing them for a time. If you are looking for a good CD portable player without the radio, this is it. It is pretty light on battery use also. Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman« Portable CD Player
When I first began listening to CDs with this Sony player I was not impressed with the sound as it lacked presence and clarity. I played with some of the functions, such as the Mega bass boost, which resulted in too much bass, then I tried using the AVLS automatic volume limiter - a function I have no use for.
I found my answer through a careful read of the instructions regarding "G" protection, which is an anti-skip function that when turned on (G-on), and which is how my unit was set from the factory, the sound quality is just ok. You can improve the sound quality greatly by following these steps to disable G protection: With the unit turned off, press and hold down the fast forward button, then press the play button while looking at the display window. As you continue to hold down the fast foward button, press and release the play button and every time you do you will see the display readout cycle from G-off to G-on to G-off..etc. If you leave it on "G-off" you will benefit from the best sound this unit can produce. I'm using Grado SR-60i headphones, and the sound (in a quiet room) is simply astounding.
I bought this to while away the 40 minute bus ride to work. It's a great little machine. Simple and straightforward, compact and easy to operate. The battery life is good. I'm at about hour 10 and still going strong. Actually the battery insertion is not the easiest, and the earphones that come with it are not very good; mine were broken on the second day (mysteriously, a wire poked through the earpiece) so make sure you have your own. But as I said the player works great, and the battery life is good. As for the battery insertion - actually the battery removal, take the innermost battery out first.
The motor on this thing burned out at 120 days. As it is out of its 90 day warranty (all but useless anyway), I now have a $30 piece of junk. This player has been treated with TLC, no drops, no bangs, no thumps, no mistreatment of any kind.
If you purchase this player, please listen to your motor. If it is giving off audible noises (it should be almost dead silent) so that you need to have the player further away from you just so the noise doesn't degrade the music, you are hearing the motor burn out. If you are within the warranty period, I suggest you return it immediately. Don't wait for the end.
On start up, if the unit does any searching at all to find the first track, or gives you a "no disk" message, you are looking at a failing player. It should just kick to the first track and play.
The earphones are pretty useless for me. They are "in ear" and if they don't fit, you'll quickly be looking for a new set. That's a questionable investment given the low manufacturing quality of the player.
The track programming is very limited. It works only in numeric sequence, i. e. track 1, 2, 3, etc. You cannot program say, tracks 3, 1, 2. Also the programming act itself is clumsy and difficult to get right.
The player just feels flimsy and cheap. I don't have any better suggestions, but this thing is not a first choice. Unfortunately cd players seem to be dieing off under the mp3 deluge.
Pro:
- anti-skid really works here. No skid of any kind,
- battery saver big time,
- internal battery compartment, won't fall out by accident (goes well with anti-skid)
- remembers where it left off! If I open the cover and close and restart, it starts from where it left off!
Neutral:
- sound quality is ok, no better or worth than my $300 Yamaha or my $9.99 generic brand player from Target. The trick is the headphone. I only listen with Grado SR325 or SR125. Any CD play sounds equally fantastic. It's all in the disk, all in the headphone jack. You just need the right headphone to bring it out to your ears.
Con:
- buttons too small and hard to decipher, display is TINY and almost impossible to read. Doesn't come with AC power converter. But for $30 at Target, I shall withdraw my complaint and give it a 5-star rating instead.
Save your bucks for a pair of great the Grado headphone set. It's not the player. BTW, only reason I returned the $9.99 one and got the Sony instead is that the generic brand player doesn't have anti-skd and any slight touch will make it play from the very beginning - too annoying. - Cd Player - Personal Cd Player - Sony Walkman Dfj041cd - Portable Cd'

Audio Conferencing - bluetooth, expandable multi-handset
I had never heard of Vtech phone before and read the reviews for this system and thought the blue-tooth connection wouldn't be used in my house. However I decided to give it a try and I was amazed by the sound quality and the battery life, and I actually find myself using the blue-tooth to use my cell phone all the time. One of the best features is being able to use different handsets at the same time, they can all conference on one line or you can conference on the home line and other handsets can conference on the cell line, amazing feature! My only drawback is I don't like that it has an answering machine I have voicemail on my cell and my vonage line so there is no need for it to take up extra space, but very very small drawback. Vtech DS6301 DECT 6.0 Digital Accessory Handset with Caller ID and Handset Speakerphone (DS6301)
We had the uniden phones before this which were very good and lasted a long time (about 6 years). When I went to find a replacement system, consumer reports had the Vtechs better rated than Uniden so I found a system with the features we needed and went with it. Really like the bluetooth ability to link to our cellphones so cell calls can be answered with the home phones. Also the ability to dump all my contact phone numbers into the Vtech from my cell saved hours of entering information for frequently called numbers. On the down side, the Unidens allowed us to enter a custom name for each phone so that we knew which extension belonged in each room and where the intercom calls were going. The Vtechs don't allow the indivual phones to be named so it's just extension 1, extention 2, etc. Small but important item if you have many extentions like we do. Also, Vtech could have done a better job with area code recognition for long distance dialing. You enter your home area code in the setup but if you have a number programmed into the phone that is outside your area code, it doesn't automatically put the 1 in front of the area code for long distance dialing. It's an easy feature to program in for Vtech, not sure why they left it out. But it makes you have to go into each stored number, that is long distance, and add a 1 before the stored number. What a pain! Overall though, the phones work well and sound quality is excellent.
This wireless system was bought to replace a previous V-tech wireless system which was not expandable. I bought this base unit and then extra phones because I wanted to drop my landline and use the bluetooth capabilities of this unit to connect to my cell phones (2). After porting the landline number to a cell phone and dropping the landline, I hooked the home line to a Magic Jack from my desktop computer and connected the cell phones as planned through bluetooth. They work great.
I use the Magic Jack line to dial out, so I don't have to use cell minutes when at home. Everyone who has my home number can still reach me through the cell, whether at home or away. I bought another Magic Jack to hook to my server in a closet which is attached to a UPS, and I attached it to my house alarm system.
This was a very painless transition, and I no longer have to pay for a landline.
We have had our setup for use with two cell phones for several months now.
One of the neatest features is assignable ring tones.
Our landline has one tone, my cellphone has another, and my spouse's phone has a third.
We know which calls are for whom, right away.
I bought this to add to the 3 extensions that came with the base, and this works as expected. Took about 10 seconds to add it to the system, and it took my wife about a week to realize we had a fourth handset.
Had the system with 6 phone for a few weeks. It has met all my expectations. Been using the Bluetooth feature and am planning on dumping my two land lines and using cell phone with the new VTech DS6301 system.
I just added three of these handsets to the 3-set base system I received last week. So easy to set up and the features are great. I like the size and feel of the phone, not to big or heavy. Sound quality is excellent even with a lot of wireless activity going on in our "smart home." The bluetooth feature is a plus. I probably won't use it a lot, but it will be great not to have to run downstairs only to miss the cell phone ringing in my purse.
I purchased the original four handset system 3 months ago (XMAS 2009) and found the product quality to be very good the menu system is fairly intuitive and although I have not had occasion to pair my cell phones with it yet I find all the other features perform as described. The handsfree for the handset works very well and each handset acts a s a portable base. I added two additional handsets with this purchase and they registered to the base immediately with no problems. Feature rich with a great price point. - Cordless Phone - Expandable Multi-handset - Bluetooth Phone - Bluetooth'

Ipod Fm Transmitter - iphone charger, ipod charger
I liked how my purchase arrived in three days after ordering it, but I was disappointed with how the box was NOT exactly how it looked in the picture.
I also didn't like how there was no instruction manual included.
Overall, it works well, and I have no problems with the FM transmitter, except for the fact that you have to keep setting up the radio station each time you start up your car.
The sound quality isn't too bad either, and sounds almost close, but not exactly to CD quality. Apple iPod iPhone Accessories. Wireless FM Transmitter with remote and Car Charger for Apple iPod Touch iPod Classic and APPLE iPhone 4. Full Range Frequency
This product does everything it say it does. Only thing I didn't like about it is the remote, you are led to believe that your song list will show up on the remote. This is not true. The remote does let you advance forward or back on the playlist and it allows you to change the frequency, but as far as seeing what song is playing or being able to scroll through your playlist and pick a song,it will not do that! Aside from the remote I definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to listen to there ipod or mp3 player through there car speakers! It also works great to plug your cell phone into it via the usb connection and have hands free cell phone use. - Iphone Charger - Bad - Iphone Fm Transmitter - Ipod Charger'

Toner Cartridge - cartridge, toner cartridge
I get 800 to 1100 extra copies from each cartridge.
After the "Toner Life End" message appears, it refuses to print even one more copy. Offensive...until you show it who's in charge.
Remove the cartridge and find 2 clear plastic port holes, one on each side. The printer shines a light through these to decide when to shut you off. But it's too sudden and too early.
Cover one or both windows with a small piece of masking tape. You can put the tape on the outer drum unit holes if you prefer. I get about 3400 copies per cartridge instead of 2400.
I really like Brother printers now that I have taught them some manners.
To save even more money try 4 Pack Brother TN-350 TN350 Toner Refill Kit by Laser Tek Services. Brother Black Toner Cartridge (TN-350)
I had this rushed a few weeks ago because my HL-2070N kept refusing to operate every ~20 pages due to a low toner error. However, unlike on most laser printers, the print quality was still perfect at this point -- no streaking or blank spots. The problem is that the printer senses that it is nearing the end of the cartridge and refuses to continue, even with toner remaining.
Based on some web searching, it seems that the sensor is based on shining light into a ~1/4" hole on the side that goes through the entire length of the cartridge. Covering this hole with black electrician's tape has let me print a few hundred more pages, with no problems so far and still no sign that the toner is running out.
So, it's good to have a spare on hand, but it hasn't yet been necessary to install it.
I am a fan of brother DCPs and MFCs because they have excellent scanning and come with PaperPort scanning document managment software. I have a brother multifunction at every one of the 7 workstations in my law firm.
I purchased several DCP 7020s because the price was under $200 each. But they use these TN 350s which are a total rip off. Here are the specs. These TN-350s cost $43 and claim a capacity of 2500 pages.
Other Brother printers use higher capacity toners, such as the TN-580, which is rated at 7,000 pages and cost $63. Do the math. The cheap printer turns out much more expensive very quickly because you go through toners so fast. With a claimed capacity of 2500, in reality you're lucky to get 2000 pages. Imagine buying a new toner for every 4 reams of paper you go through! SO, I as soon as I get my first "change drum" message, I am going to trash these little Brothers and get one of their higher speed larger models. The extra couple hundred on the equipment will be paid off in toner savings in no time.
The title on the description and the picture leads you to believe that this is an OEM genuine product but it appears to be a remanufactured product when it arrived. Do not buy if you want orignial OEM Brother TN-350.
This supply is used for other printers besides those listed in the product description. The printers are listed on the box: DCP-7020, FAX-2820, HL-2040, MFC-7220, MFC-7420, FAX-2920, HL-2070N, MFC-7225N, MFC-7820N. The supply was used in our 7820n, which is the best Multifunction we've owned, bar none.
When my 'toner' light when on on my printer even before my prints started to look faded, I was suspicious that there was still more usable life and toner in the cartridge. After doing an internet, search, I discovered that if you put masking or electrical tape over the hole on the side of the toner cartridge, you can get 1000 more prints out of it!
There is a passthrough hole where the printer shines a light through the cartridge. Cover that up, and the printer still thinks there is plenty of toner and will continue to work. When your prints start coming out faded, you can then replace the toner cartridge. Much more environmentally friend and cost effective than to replace it when the print thinks you should, even if it's not empty.
It's good toner that will last you a while. I just want to reiterate a tip someone else wrote in though. If you cover the holes on the side with electrical tape, you can 'trick' the printer into printing the rest of the toner that's left in the cartridge. Have you noticed when the printer says low on ink, the last page it printed out was still perfectly printed? It means you've still got toner left because the printer measures toner level by flashing a light into the holes, which is not at the bottom. I know this tip saved my butt when I was trying to print some last minute college papers as well as the difference between the store price and the price found here.
As is the case with most/all laser & inkjet printers, the initial cartridge(s) which come with the product have less ink than the standard product. This is the replacement / standard toner cartridge for my printer and it works just great -- as expected. Installation was a snap. They include a return label so the cartridge can be recycled in a relatively painless way. The return instructions say to drop it at a USPS location but I just put it at my mailbox and the postman took care of it. A+ all over. - Toner - Laser - Toner Cartridge - Cartridge'

Cabin Tent - family camping tents, tent
I purchased this tent last summer in anticipation of a 4-day camping trip. I will admit that i was initially attracted to its aesthetic appeal, however, the monsterous amount of space and ample screening sealed the deal!
I set it up in the yard soon after it arrived to seal the seams and to acclimate myself with it's assembly. The instructions are stitched right into the carrier bag so they can't be misplaced or torn - a nice feature, in my opinion.
The poles are color coded and easy to fit. The tent went up in about 15 minutes.... and that was just because I was new to the process.
On to seam sealing... You are going to need more than one bottle of seam sealer to do the whole thing... I got 2/3rds of the way around and ran out. I packed it up after that and finished sealing the day that we arrived at the campground.
During our stay we received one night of TERRIBLE rain! This tent DID NOT LEAK !!! Not one drop! It was really fantastic!
Dismantling is simple. The tent does fit back in the bag (with a little effort.... be sure to squeeze out all of the air as you roll and do so as tightly as possible).
Th Coleman Bayside 8-Person Family Tent - Orange
We bought this tent as a replacement in the middle of a trip when we lost the zipper on the door of our other tent. We looked at lots of tents in the campgrounds, and decided we wanted 2 things - to be able to stand up, and somewhere to stay dry. As motorcycle campers, we have little option besides the tent for getting out of the rain. The tent is fairly easy to set up, is very spacious, and has some great features - love the rainfly awning area in front of the tent. It is big enough to put 2 chairs under in inclement weather, as long as it is not blowing hard....
The ONLY change I would make to this tent is to add a window or two. The only openings with the rain fly on are the two in the door area..... While the rain fly design allows for some ventilation, it would be nice to be able to get more.....
We received this tent as a gift and it works out for us very well. It is very easy to set up and has a lot of unique and useful features (the door). It did drip a little water during a torential rain but not nearly enough to puddle. The round design isn't the most efficient but we did have 9 people sleep comfortably without supplies. I would recommend it.
I ordered this tent only because the Kodiak Canvas 10'x14' tent I wanted was backordered until next year, and with 2 trips planned, I needed a 10'x15ish' tent that would last a few trips. I bought this tent based on the coleman name, which though not what it once was, is still a decent affordable tent. I also liked the coverage the rain fly provided, it seems like too many new tents have insufficient rain flies.
Everything about this tent is mediocre. I'm not using that term to mean "bad" or "poor". By mediocre I mean "very average".
- Set up: Not too easy, not too hard. Took about 90 minutes the first time, without help. I've now got it down to 45-60 minutes by myself, 30 minutes with help from my wife. Poles are color-coded, everything fits properly, don't have to stress anything too much to get it set up.
- Ventilation: not great. On really hot days this tent cooks. However, as fast as it heats up, it will cool down just as fast, so it isn't the end of the world. If there is a breeze, the ventilation is perfectly adequate (mediocre).
- Weather resistance: Not great, not terrible. We endured about 48 hours of serious rain and wind (20-30mph sustained, gusts of 30mph+). The rain did get in the tent around the windows, though not enough rain to cause problems (tiny puddles about the size of a few quarters were left when the rain eventually stopped.) I sealed the seams and it still leaked a little. Probably need to apply a coat of waterproofer to the fly if you want total protection.
- Space: Plenty of space for 2-4 people, any more than that and it will get cramped. If you're just looking for a tent to sleep in, feel free to cramp the 8 people Coleman claims will fit in this tent. If you need a place to store your gear or hang out during a storm, do not put more than 4 people in this tent. The footprint is 10'x15', but it does not have that much usable space.
- Features: The vestibule is very handy, stored my grill and cooler there and they stayed plenty dry. The shelf system is gimmicky, but it actually helps store stuff. It has a couple of pockets for wallet, keys, etc... all in all the features were actually useful.
- Quality: Again, not great, but not bad. This tent will not last for years if you go camping more than a few days a year. However, if you take 1-2 camping trips a year, for a few weekends, you could probably expect this tent to last 3-5 years if you take care of it. The first thing you'll want to do is buy new stakes. At $1-2 per decent stake, and at least 10-15 stakes, that adds about $15-$30 to the cost of this tent. But you need to do this if you plan on camping on sand or loose dirt. The stakes this tent comes with are good only for camping in ideal conditions. Plan ahead, get decent stakes (MSR Groundhog, or heavy-duty Coleman stakes). If you camp 5-10 days a year, plan on this tent only lasting 1-3 years. Here is why: The way the poles and fly are constructed this tent lends itself to some serious pole bending under heavy winds. The only way I was able to keep my poles from snapping under 40mph gusts was to rig a rope to keep the pole from bending.
Conclusion: This is a perfectly mediocre tent. You get what you pay for: if you want a serious tent for years of serious camping, look elsewhere. If you want a decent tent that will accommodate 90% of your needs, for less than $150, the Coleman Bayside is not a bad option.
UPDATE: After 2 trips, a total of 5 nights, the tent developed 2 small holes in the fabric. The holes occurred in an area not covered by the rainfly, so we'll have to repair them or hope it doesn't rain next time we use this tent. I suspect the holes developed while packed away. Anyways, this should bump it down to a 2.5 star rating, but Amazon doesn't allow half-star ratings, soooo.... - Family Camping Tents - Family Tent - Tent - Coleman'

Answering Machine - wireless, answering machine
I will be brief. This is one of the best phones I have ever used. It is clear, can hold three way conversations, has a "find handset" feature, has an intercom feature that works very well, has a great caller ID/Phone book feature that shows on all handsets and the base. In addition, all handsets have a long talk/standby time. Furthermore, the display and number pad on each handset and base are backlit in orange and are easy to read. It is wise to read the manual to properly setup the phone, but it is not that difficult.
All in all a very good system. We had been using a Uniden 2.4Ghz phone for a long time and it was excellent, but was showing its age (due to heavy use) and sometimes interfering with our WiFi network. No WiFi issues with DECT 6.0 and voice clarity is very good. Again, I would highly recommended this product. I found this at Sam's for $85. If you are looking for a new phone system, this one is hard to beat. Uniden DECT1588-3T DECT 6.0 Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System with Dual Keypad and Cordless Handset and Chargers
This is a great DECT 6 phone system. It has everything you can ask for...
- corded base phone
- wall mountable
- answering machine
- cordless handsets
- speaker phone on both base and handsets
- nice display panel
- backlit keypad
- many other features...
It is easy to assemble.
The only feature it doesn't have is voice caller ID. But who needs it.
You can't go wrong with this phone system.
--I wrote a review, but I haven't seen it post, so I'm trying again. If it happens to post and you see me twice, I apologize!
Anyway, we bought these phones and right out of the box I was surprised to find some of the features missing that I had enjoyed on my previous set of Uniden phones and knew I would miss these features... Like headset jacks, belt clips, and variety of ringtones.
But the real problem came when people tried to call us. They might here me answer "Hello" but they would soon complain that they couldn't hear me at all or that I sounded garbled. So we exchanged the phones and the next set did the same thing only worse. Only with incomming calls...?
Maybe you'll have better luck! But we couldn't make them work.
On the plus side I really liked the set up, having a corded phone with answering machine as the base and then cordless handsets. But because they didn't work we are trying another brand.
Almost didn't need the instructions. Only had the system for one week, but setup was simple. Wireless handsets have function menus contained in them. Nice and self explanatory features. Clairty is exceptional - no static. I have tons of other wireless electronics and I experience no interference from them. Base unit functions (corded) when power is out. I highly recommend this phone. Answering system is first rate. I had a Vtech phone which was crap! Threw it out! :)
I've used this system for over two months now. It has many nice features, but two things come back to irritate me time and again. First, with our old answerer, if I picked up any extension while screening a call, the answerer would sense this and not count that as a "New Message." Hence, no mesage to have to go back and delete. And if you did want to delete a message, you could do it with one button push, without having to play back messages first. With this system, if I pick up any phone while screening a call which the answerer is answering, the answerer counts it as a new message. Even if a caller identifies herself for only a brief second before I pick it up... "Hi, this is Mary..." and I pick it up, now the answerer counts it as a new message. So the base unit beeps every fifteen seconds as if it is a message I want to hear later. So now the "message" needs to be deleted, but you can't delete it until after you press PLAY first. Very annoying, making it virtually useless if you use the answerer to screen your calls, because you won't want to screen your calls in light of the chore to delete the message fragment each time.
Second, there is a potentially serious design flaw with the handset speakerphones. I use six handsets, and all of them exhibit the following quirk. If you hold the handset with the keypad facing your palm, as when you want to hear the anemic speaker volume a bit better by pointing the speaker toward your face or ear, the presence of your hand in the front causes the speaker volume to drop to nearly zero. At first I thought I had a defective handset, but then I noted it on all of them, and narrowed it down to the presence of the hand, or in fact any object, in front of the keypad. Uniden denies hearing of this problem, but anybody who owns this system, try this, and tell me I am wrong. Place a call from a handset, not just a dial tone, but place a call to a friend or voice mail so you have an actual connection. Now, while listening to the speaker, place your hand within an inch of the keypad/microphone, and the speaker all but mutes completely. At first I thought cupping the hand in front of the microphone was causing it to pick up the sound from the speaker, thus muting the speaker since it is a simplex system, but in that case, once the speaker mutes and there are no other extraneous sounds, the speaker should come back on, but this is not the case. As long as the hand or any object, even paper, is placed in front of the keypad/microphone area, the speaker will not work. All six of my handsets, from two different sets, do this. Did Apple design this, a la the new iPhones? Now that I know this, it can be worked around, but since Uniden finds it fit to not offer a headset or even a belt clip with these speakerphone handsets, the only option that leaves for hands-free is to put it in a shirt pocket, but even that is not possible with this glitch. Time to acknowledge the problem and go back to the drawing boards, Uniden... - Corded - Wireless - Cordless - Answering Machine'

Latest Generation Covers - latest generation covers, kindle covers
I bought this as a way to protect my Kindle better than the other available silicone sleeves/skins, so it will be protected from things like dirty hands while reading outside (or snacking while reading), spills on the keys, things in my purse that could scratch the screen, etc. Also to provide a little bit of shock protection if the Kindle is dropped (though the material is pretty thin so I don't know if it would protect much against a drop).
The beauty of this product versus its competitors is that it covers all the buttons, and even the charging port (you can access both it and the slide button to wake up your Kindle through a very thin opening in the case), AND it covers the screen. When you want to read, you just open the flap that's covering the screen and it folds back and "buttons" onto the case. Then it buttons closed on the front when you're done.
I've been using it for a few days now and the only downsides I've noticed are: 1) That for some reason there is a small but significant gap around the edges of the flap when it's closed, instead of fitting closely and completely covering the opening. And, the part of the flap that "buttons" is so thin I'm concerned it might tear.
Overall I'm glad I found this and am happy with it.
Update 1/28/11: Still really like this thing. Though it does tend to attract little hairs & lint; not enough to put me off of the product but it would be nice if it didn't do that. I forgot to mention that I bought the aqua color, and it's not as garish as it appeared on my display (thankfully). But I do wish manufacturers would make silicone covers in colors beyond black and 6th-grade-girl-colors. A pale aqua or a pale pink, or a tasteful green or blue, or earth tones... M-Edge M-Skin for Amazon Kindle, Pink (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle)
I bought this M-Edge M-Skin for two purposes: to protect my K3 in my purse, and for covering and thus protecting the keys from the letters wearing off as has been widely reported on the graphite kindle 3.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the gorgeous aqua color. I was in love at first sight. The next thing I noticed and fell in love with was the feel, the soft, pliable, silicon feeling that made it almost fun to hold my kindle in my hand.
The picture shows the flap lifted up and over the top of the kindle. There's a clever button on the back side of the cover to hold the flap down. You can close the flap, thus covering (part) of the screen, and button it down using the little button at the top of the keyboard.
The skin covers the keys, but the letters are not printed with any kind of contrast, which may be a problem if you have eyesight issues. It was not a problem at all for me. There was no problem typing and using the keyboard and the keys with the skin on -- covering the keys was a huge reason I bought the skin to begin with.
But alas! Much as I loved this skin, there were two drawbacks that had me send it back. I wanted to be able to toss my kindle in my purse. The skin along the sides of the screen have a gap, significant enough that I believe smaller items from my purse would work their way inside and do some damage.
The second drawback goes hand-in-hand with the first, and that is that the screen flap does not completely cover the screen and stay down tightly. The flap leaves a small border of screen uncovered. When I took into consideration the uncovered portion of screen combined with the gap along with side, I decided there was not enough protection to carry it in my purse without putting it into another case or cover.
And for the price, I decided to send this back. Regrettably, because I really liked this product.
I am very happy with this cover for my 3rd gen Kindle. The case fits snugly and all the buttons work well with the cover in place. The material is the same as some items you might find in an adult's sleeping quarters if you know what I mean. The cover seems to give it some shock dampening ability, but I have no real experience with this and don't care to have. Before the cover was on, I was worried about bumping or introducing any shock into the device, after the cover, not so much. The material does have it drawbacks though, every little piece of lint, animal hair, and fuzz in the general area seems drawn to it like a magnet. The problem is solved with a damp cloth and with a couple of wipes it all disappears. the cover has a very sticky tactile feel which makes holding the Kindle a breeze, no slippage at all. The little strap that holds the cover closed seems fragile, but this material is pretty stretchy so it may be ok. The keyboard letters are pressed into the material and hard to read in the wrong light. I have had to remove the cover when typing in certain lighting. There is a slot at the bottom which permits access to the on/off button and power plug with no problems at all.
I am very hard on electronics. I am on my third Ipod from throwing them in my damp lunchbox and dropping them on the floor. My Kindle will end up taking the same abuse. I had thought of looking at a zippered cover somewhere local to see if the covered Kindle would fit in there. If it fits I would have a nearly indestructible setup.
Overall, I am a very happy consumer.
Pros:
Tactile, easy to hold material
Appears to have some shock absorbing quailties
With cover in place, all the buttons work
Gives added moisture protection
Easy to clean
Cons:
Sticky material holds onto everything piece of debris that touches it
Fragile looking strap
Cannot read letters on keyboard unless in bright light - Latest Generation Covers - Kindle Covers - Kindle 3 Covers - Kindle 3 Cover'

Minidv Tapes
I use these Mini DV Tapes for my Canon Vixia HV30 camera. I don't re-use the cassettes so I wind up going through a lot of tape and so I'm always looking for a good price. This set was it as buying in the store would have cost a whole lot more. Sony DVC60PRL Mini DV Tape 60min Premium Data Cartridge 10 Packs
Its simple. Over the years I have shot with every brand of tape and every tape format from pro level 1" Type C and 1/2" Betacam SP to home formats like VHS, Super VHS and now, Mini-DV. Most name brands are good. Some are excellent. Sony is both -- and consistently both.
In the production process, tape is the least expensive but in many ways the most important item because the information recorded on it is the culmination of ones day at work. And when you are shooting an event or story that you cannot go back and do-over, consistency of quality counts. And that's the reason I tend to use Sony.
I only use the Sony Premium Mini DV tapes in my Panasonic DVX 100B. As I was getting low on supply I started looking for more to purchase and naturally went to the Amazon site. Got just what I was looking for a a great price.
I use the Sony DVC60PRL Mini DV for my HD video cameras. I used to use the DV tapes rated for HD but it does not make a difference in out put quality; yes the HD rated tapes are better manufactured with higher quality magnetic tape, etc but really the tapes are played less than five times; I record then digitize then store. These tapes are great and I like the price.

[...]
These cassettes in the 10-pack is in my opinion very affordable, considering I almost bought a 6-pack for 32.00 pounds sterling. The quality rating depends on what you want them for. In our case, we are trying to avoid too much re-using of the same tape for video recording.'

Document Scanner
My old HP scanner (actually, it wasn't that old) died a few months ago and it was time for me to get a new one. I accidently came across the predecessor to the ScanScap S1500 (the S510) last week while I was having my taxes done and was amazed at the speed and compactness of it. My tax person also gave it glowing reviews. As I wasn't aware that Fujitsu manufactured scanners, I thought I'd do a little research which led me to reviews of the S510 here on Amazon. Rather amazingly, I was very surprised to find that the S510 had so many extraordinarily high reviews (something that I don't believe I come across too often, especially with items such as scanners). One of those reviews mentioned that a new model (this one - the S1500) had just been released by Fujitsu. After some more research (it wasn't yet listed on Amazon), I found that this scanner was available and that it had many new features. As it turns out, I was the "first kid on my block" to acquire one and I'm glad I did! This machine is incredible!
The speed is absolutely blinding - an incredible 20 pages per minute but, because it scans both sides of a page at the same time, double sided documents scan at 40 PAGES PER MINUTE! Wow! As with previous models, this scanner is very small and appears to be well built: it's quite heavy for its small size and fits very nicely on my small computer desk. The scanning quality is equally spectacular - it scans up to 600 dpi in color, grayscale, and black and white and mine came with a good assortment of software (Adobe Acrobat 9, Rack2-Filer, and ABBYY FineReader). It scans documents beautifully! While I've been too busy scanning the billions of pieces of paper that have cluttered my life for years (this scanner will actually do that quickly and efficiently - something I've always just dreamed would be possible), I haven't yet tried to scan photos; I suspect that this scanner will do a good job but that another type of scanner would probably do better for archival purposes).
The only problems I've had were with Acrobat (I already have Acrobat 9 Pro on my computer) - I found that importing previously scanned documents into Rack2-filer were always listed in reverse order (ugh!) and Fujitsu tech support replicated the problem. They suggested, however, that I completely uninstall (not just repair) Acrobat and reinstall it. That did the job. BTW, I received great tech support from Fujitsu.
One interesting thing is that this scanner does not come with TWAIN drivers. Because of this, it is not possible to use it to the same extent as other scanners. Just the same, my reason for getting this scanner was to create .pdf files and this scanner does it like no other.
Overall, I'm thrilled with the Fujitsu S1500 - there is no question that it is the best one I've had (and I've had many) and is well worth the money (the S1500 is also the most expensive scanner I've ever purchased). I would recommend this to anyone who needs to scan documents. Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC
I have never had a dedicated document scanner before. In the past, I used the Auto-document feeder on my all-in-one printer/scanner/fax machines to scan documents into adobe acrobat. That meant for each batch of papers, I needed to set the color/resolution/paper size/quality settings and then work through Acrobat in order to save each file. It worked, but it was slow going.
Then I bought this new scansnap 1500, based on the ratings of the earlier model (the scansnap 510). I installed only the main program to my computer (the software also includes OCR programs, organizational programs, and acrobat 9, which I already have). I hooked up the scanner and stuck in a stack of old notes I took from some college courses--some notes were in color, some were b&w, some on two sides, some on one side, and some of the pages were upside down. I hit the only button on the machine (SCAN), and to my sheer amazement, it started flying through the stack of notes without any additional prompts or effort. It then automatically saved my file as a pdf--all of the pages were in order, color pages were in color, b&w pages were in b&w, etc. The only issue I noticed was that if there were any marks whatsoever on the back side of my note papers, it included those blank pages in the file.
I repeated this process with any papers I could get my hands on. I even tried sticking in papers of varying sizes, and it sped through them all without a problem. I am officially hooked. (In a moment of either stupidity or genius, I sliced the spine off of an old book and scanned that in too.)
I did notice a few things that are worth mentioning specifically: 1) This scanner is much smaller than it looks. I was expecting something the size of a inkjet printer, but it is actually about the size of a loaf of bread. 2) You have to place the papers GENTLY into the scanner or it will jam. If I push the papers in too far, it pulls through several pages at a time and the software warns you to start over. 3) I am running the software on Windows 7 RC1, so I can tell you that, at least in my case, it will work on Win7.'

Stationary Planers - planer, stationary planers
Like many starting woodworkers, I really needed a jointer and wanted a planer, but both did not fit into my budget. So I considered buying a jointer and just doing without the planer. Then I saw this product, but buying it without a review was a real gamble. I was really concerned that as a jointer it might not be very precise and that would just be a waste of money (I can hand joint a board fairly precisely - it just takes longer). In the end I decided that it was about the same price as many portable planers, and if it did a decent job planing, I would just use it as such.
The machine arrived promptly and was well packaged. Good thing, as is usually the case, the outer packaging was pretty battered. One caveat, the planer extension table and jointer blade guard are placed loose in the cavity of the planer and bang around some. The red paint on the guard was chipped around the corners a bit.
Set up was about a 1-hour job. These are things to consider:
1. I would recommend two people to get the main unit out of the styrofoam. It weighs about 75lbs. and tends to stick in the packaging.
2. The directions recommend tightening all of the nuts for the stand and then placing the unit on it before running the bolts up into the unit. Don't do this. Flip the unit upside-down onto the styrofoam packing and place the stand on the bottom. That way you can actually see all of the bolt holes and adjust the stand so all of the holes line up.
3. The directions fail to mention the three lock washers that go with the hex cap screws for fastening the planer outfeed extension, but they are in the exploded parts diagram (and come in the hardware bag). I recommend putting in all three screws loosely. Then, starting at one end, align the top of the extension just barely below the outfeed table - tightnen lightly. Then do the other side. My first efforts were to do the center screw first, but then every time you lower one side, the other pops up too high. Lastly, don't tighten thes down until you adjust the set screws that adjust the angle of the outfeed (I stripped one that way - but I always make sure to find at least one excuse to go out to the hardware store :-)
OK now for the bottom line - performance.
As a jointer, I was impressed. I jointed some very rough walnut and it came out smooth, straight and square - but only after about 5 passes. the directions advise taking light cuts (1/16" or less) and as I've only had this for a short time, I haven't tried breaking it yet.
Same deal as a planer or surface jointer: nice, but it is a bit underpowered - take light cuts. After all, if you realy want a powerful tool, and could afford it, you'd buy a stationary 15" planer and an 8" jointer. Not much snipe (any?) with these light cuts and the surface is nice.
Four small con's:
1. The 2" dust connector is just barely too big for my Rigid vac - fixed with some sandpaper.
2. One of the extension table holes had to be drilled out to get the bolt to go through (but all of the tapped holes are spot-on.)
3. The stand is a little flexible. I'm going to bolt a peice of ply onto the lower brackets as a shelf - that ought to help.
4. the jointer fence does not have any adjustment for moving it across the table, so all jointing operations occur at the same side. That will end up wearing the blades uneavenly. I'll probably end up making up some spacers with mdf.
I recommend this product. Jet JJP-10BTOS 10-Inch Bench-Top Jointer/Planer
I purchased this jointer/planer two weeks ago. This was to be my first joining/planing tool beyond a handplane and I was quite encouraged by the reviews. Beyond Amazon I had a hard time tracking down any major woodworking magazines that had done any reviews on this tool, that should have been a sign.
I received it, spent the next several hours assembling it, became very frustrated with the poorly threaded nuts and bolts and especially frustrated aligning the unit, I could only get 3 of the 4 base screws tight, the 4th would not thread in. Before firing the unit up I threw up an engineers square and my infeed table was horribly out of alignment. After some inspection I noticed that a piece of the infeed table was snapped off. So I called up Jet customer service who did a fine job in getting me the proper replacement part. I wish they would have detailed that this would be a difficult job... it was very difficult.
I received the new infeed table 4 days later and had to completely remove the gears, chain and split the machine open in order to get the new infeed table in. This wasn't too bad, the problem became aligning the cutterhead, two rollers, a lock bar, and a chip guard all at the same time while attempting to hold up the new infeed table while tightening a bolt. After much frustration I finally had the unit back together.
I threw the engineers square back up and all looked well. I fired up the motor and that worked also. All seemed good. I adjusted my depth of cut, tightened the infeed table lock and PING, the shaft that locks the infeed table snapped. This tiny shaft, approximately 1/8 inch diameter ran from one side of the machine to the other and was locked by a handwheel that you used to snug it, mine was hardly able to take finger tight before snapping.
In the end I was able to use Amazons excellent return policy and it is going back to them. It is unfortunate that Jet has made a product that is targeted at entry level woodworkers which cannot accomplish the very simplest of tasks. I would not recommend this tool to anyone.
Jet 10" Jointer/Planer Combo. It makes lot of sense to have both jointer and planer build into one machine. I have tried the jointer with hard red oak, and some soft wood for the planer. Both worked fine to my satisfaction. But there are a few "small" things that needed to be taken care of at the beginning after received the machine thought UPS:
(1) Shipping box is broken badly, luck me that the contents inside is not lost.
(2) The instruction manual (pictures and instructions) is not clear; it says the extension table should be installed higher than the planer but it does not say how much higher it should be. Also, for people never used a jointer or planer (like me), the manual should mention the basics steps operating a jointer and planer to get fine results. I have to find answers from other sources.
(3) This was the most bothering thing for me at the beginning: the out-feed table and the in-feed table are not parallel to each other (off by about 2 mm), and the manual does not mention how to fix it. After contacted the customer service, I got instructions to get it fixed (take both plastic panels off and there are 2 screws on the out-feed table which can be adjusted), even though I cannot say both tables are dead-parallel now, it is very close.
(4) While operating the jointer, the cutter guard keeps touching the surface of the out-feed table; there seems no way to adjust it. I guess the rotating axle is probably not perpendicular to the guard so as it turns, it getting closer to the surface of the out-feed table (but not 100% sure). I have sent email to customer support; hopefully will get some help on that. I think the worst case for me to get it work is to re-drill 2 holes and raise the guard.
(5) The fence could be designed to be a bit sturdier. Would be nice if it could be moved across the tables so that the cutter can be fully utilized.
(6) Would be nice if a shelf is design into the supporting frame/stand which cost basically nothing but would be useful for those with limited space.
(7) The quality of the cutter seems is not top of the line. After short period usage, I noticed a few small notches.
(8) The way that the planer extension table get installed (by 3 screws) and "adjusted" (by 2 smaller screws) is kind of joke. Even a non-professional woodworker like me can see its ridiculers.
(9) Some screws are too short, they are barely long enough to hold the tightened nut and washer.
Issues above are just some small imperfections I have noticed and which I can live with, over-all, I like this machine very much and I think it is well worth the money ($420). - Stationary Jointers - Jointer - Stationary Planers - Planer'
