Wireless Home Theater

I bought this after returning a Sony Home theater, not knowing what to expect. I read reviews on other Samsung Home Theater Systems and most of them got poor reviews. So I was very leery about buying this. Well I was pleasantly surprised. This was alot better than expected. The size of the speakers are very deceiving. As small as they are, they still produce a wonderful sound. The system definitely sounded better once i got it home than it did in the store. This system sets up very easily. The only downfall is the length of speaker wire for the rear speakers. As with any system the wires just aren't long enough. And they have special connectors that plug into the back of the system so I had to cut and splice the wire to make them longer. But other than that this system is WONDERFUL!! Great sound just enough bass. Samsung Electronics HT-D550 Home Theater System

This player works great. Plays DVDs, divx, mp3, etc... The Amazon description says it's wifi enabled but IT IS NOT. I was hoping to get a player that would play media off of my network, but I researched before I bought it and no other site said it had wi-fi, so I was mostly just hoping. Mysteriously, Samsung has no mention of this product on their website. Using the HDMI connection, if you turn this player on and put a disk in, my TV turns on and changes itself to the correct input. It's so easy that my 18 month old has learned how to get a movie going. The sound is great too. I had a philips home theater system before and the center channel was always too low. It was booming bass out of the subwoofer before the center channel was loud enough to hear voices. With this Samsung, the voices are clear and crisp. And the bass is great when you want it too. I really like the "touch sensitive" buttons. It's so easy to clean sticky kids fingerprints off the face.

I have this system hooked up to my 46" Toshiba LED TV. The TV controls the receiver with no programming at all. The set-up is easy. The speakers do have connectors on the end of the already which is a pro and a con. You can just strip back connectors and either solder or twist off wire to make a connection if you have wire routed through the walls like I do. The subwoofer has a decent amount of bass. One of my favorite things about this system is it doesn't eat power as a 1000W system. I had a 325W Sony System before that would heat up my room because it used so much power, but this system sounds way better and allows better energy efficiency of most systems around. I hooked my TV up to it so I can have surround sound Digital Signal when watching basic cable, playing games, or watching movies. I also hooked up my computer audio to the receiver so I can listen to music off of my computer whenever as well. It is really easy to switch audio sources and the receiver can produce Dolby sound. I feel for what this receiver cost, it was a steal for $180. I would recommend and already have to many people.

Pros

-Energy Efficiency

-Sound Quality

-Easy Set-Up

-All in One Player

Cons

-May need to cut speaker wire if rout wires through walls and ceiling

Bottom Line: I recommend this system. Great Gift Idea as well.

I'm very disappointed with the product. The home theater that was shipped to my house is not the same that amazon anounced. The speakers are totally different. The design looks like old. I don't recomend other customers buy this home theater.

I had looked on line at alot of sites. My son told me to try AMAZON.COM. I looked at alot of Home Theater System that would work with my 3D Ready Ready HD TV I had purchased. I couldn't believe how quick it would be to find the right one at the right price for my budget. It was easy to narrow down my choices. I didn't have to worry about what else I needed. The information was provided of what I may need to hookup the system. It was so easy. The Samsung Home Theater System work great.Samsung Electronics HT-D550 Home Theater System

The sound quality is good for the price. About what youd expect, good but not top-end.

I bought this item but returned it because I was hoping to use it as a receiver for a record player that I have that has an internal pre-amp and outputs AUX. However, this system will only play the record AUX out of the front two speakers ( I think since it's not a true receiver?). Also using the mini-audio input, sound will only come out of the front two speakers and the sub. I didn't realize this when I bought it and its really not worth $180 to have two tiny speakers playing your record player and only 3 playing an ipod and what I really wanted was a "surround sound" experience during both of those uses. I was planning on using it for the ipod & turntable now and for a TV/cablebox set up in the future when I could afford a TV, but it wasn't really a good solution for that.

So, the system is good if you have a TV but if you want to use it for something else, don't bother. You also really need a TV to do any configuring of the device since all the menus are on-screen.'

Pregnancy Comfort - pregnancy comfort, gifts for pregnant women

I purchased 3 different Bella (or belly) bands at the beginning of my pregnancy with my 3rd child. I wish I had had them with my other two pregnancies. They were fabulous. The baby be mine belly band was longer than the actual "bella" band that everyone was raving about. I was a little concerned with the size and afraid that I wouldn't get the right size, but I went with the smaller of the two choices that could have fit me. I was very happy with the fit. Overall, I was able to wear most of my non-maternity pants with the band and they stayed up. I did have to adjust the band and pull the pant back up a bit once in a while, but I was very pleased. Now that my son is born, I use the band under my shirts when nursing. It has been great not to worry about exposing my stomach when I lift up my shirt. I just tuck the band into the strap of my bra and it is long enough to cover my entire abdomen and hold in those last few baby pounds.

I highly recommend this product. Baby Be Mine Maternity Belly Band (Size 2, Black)

I am really happy with the Belly Bands. They have really helped me out in my first trimester. I am 9 or 10 weeks along, small framed, and already beginning to show! Within the first 6-7 weeks my shorts and pants were alread too snug for me to button all the way. What I do is this: Turn it inside out and put it on. Then I tuck the bottom part in like it was a tee shirt, and then fold the top half over my waistband. Since my belly is not big yet, it just covers up my unbottoned pants.

Today I am wearing my low-rize jeans. When I sit down, the band doesn't do the total job of holding up the back of my pants, but I still think this is the best solution until I am ready for maternity pants.

I plan to buy more colors!

Love the product, but ordered two different sizes because I was in-between size 3 and 4 (size 18) according to the sizing chart. The smaller of the two works and fits perfectly. The larger one is too loose and doesn't hold my pants up and doesn't support my growing belly. I ordered two more of the smaller size and am very happy with the products. Also worth mentioning, the dark colors "hide" unzipped pants much better then the lighter colors.

If this review was helpful, please vote by clicking yes below.

I purchased two of the Baby Be Mine bamboo belly bands (black and white) directly from their website. The fabric was brittle- I have no other way of describing it. The band seemed to show "scars" after trying it on once, and tried on it didn't convince me that it would secure my pants. I sent both of them back for a refund. I contacted the company at the same time, but no response. After a month of not seeing any refund on my statement I emailed them again, and subsequently several times. They never responded and there was also no phone number on the website. I was quite desolate to realize my money ($39.95) was gone. I then had my child and didn't think about it anymore. Several months later I thought I would try contacting them again. Surprisingly, this time someone got back to me. But instead of apologizing for the incident "Isabelle" requested the tracking information of the package, then said she couldn't do anything for me without this information. I didn't have the slip from the post office anymore and this was the end of it.

I recommend staying away from Baby Be Mine Maternity- they managed to provide me with my worst Internet shopping experience by far.

I really like using this belly band while my pants fit for the most part, but just can't quite button them. I'm also fairly tall, and my shirts aren't quite long enough with a growing belly, so the band bridges the gap nicely. I have to mess with it a little bit throughout the day as it shifts around, but it's pretty comfortable overall.

If you have any skill with a sewing machine, it might be just as easy to cut a fitted tee just under the armpits and hem the top. This isn't stretchy or strong enough to actually hold up your pants, but it does layer nicely and look like you are wearing a cami or something under your shirt. I wear mine a lot, but won't be buying anymore as I can buy shirts at goodwill and make my own.

First of all, I am gving this company 5 stars for excellent product and customer service. I could not be happier. I bought my first Baby Be Mine belly band early in my pregnancy and I wear it all the time. I just received my second order and am so excited that I have it now in a different color and even in a print. This band is so comfortable and washes great. It just fits so well and has gone throughout my entire pregnancy. I am very active and constantly chase after my 2-year-old daughter. The band gives me coverage in the front and the back and does not roll up. I love the fact that I have been able to wear most of my pre-pregnancy tops and enjoy the stylish layered look. This has been the best maternity purchase for me so far. I wish I would have known this brand with my first pregnancy. I have recommended the Baby Be Mine band to all my friends.

I bought 2 of these...fantastic sizing, color, design options and quality. It truley extended my prepregnancy clothing through post partum!! They washed well, no fading, stretching or pilling. This company is obviously pro women and our needs!! I will be purchasing 4 more for 2 friends who are now expecting and had commented on how they loved mine when I was expecting!!

I now have 2 belly bands and they have been the best purchase I've made for my pregnancy...from the early part when my normal clothes were getting tight and now when I am in maternity clothes. I can see it helping after the pregnancy too when I can't quite button my jeans yet. I highly recommend it. Also, really do follow your pre-pregnancy size...despite where you are with your weight gain.

I highly recommend this! I love my belly bands! - Pregnancy Comfort - Belly Band - Accessories - Gifts For Pregnant Women'

Contractor Supply - dewalt, woodworking

I was ready to upgrade from my Delta 10" miter to a 12", but was waiting for Dewalt to come out with a laser system. I bought this DW716 about 2 weeks ago and so far I love it. I opted NOT to get the sliding miter, since they are not as accurate as the non-sliding, especially for making furniture. This saw is very powerful and smooth, and the laser works well, though it took a while to get it set up (the instructions are marginal at best, leaving you to twiddle with it for an hour or more to try to get it to line up in every direction).

One thing I HIGHLY recommend is a RIDGID MS-UV miter stand. I found one at Home Depot and it is the best miter saw stand on the market, and very reasonably priced. It folds and unfolds easily, and the wheels make mobility great. It is MUCH better than the Dewalt or the Delta miter saw stands. Why Dewalt doesn't have a folding one with wheels is beyond me, and the Delta one is just too small for a 12" miter. The combination of a stand and a 12" miter needs wheels, as it is very heavy. You can leave the Dewalt 12" miter mounted to the RIDGID, and even set it vertically in the corner out of the way when you don't need it. Anyway, Amazon doesn't sell the Ridgid MS-UV yet, but Home Depot does. DEWALT DW716 15 Amp 12-Inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw

OK so lets make something clear really quick before I talk about the saw. A lot of carpenters ask me what I think the best saw is. Depends on what you do for a living and how you do it. No tool manufacture makes every tool they have in thier line perfect. For example the Dewalt 12" slider is very inaccurate, but this saw is not. The Bosch jigsaws are amazing tools but Bosch's 10" slider is always a pain to stay square and just doesnt hold up for finsih trim work. With that said here is my review on the DW716. I need two saws for being a finish carpenter. A 12" non sliding miter saw for cutting big material and big crown and base in position. All resonably portable 12" sliding saws have blade deflection due to the rail and 12" blade, but i need the capability os a 12" blade. I also have a Hitachi 10" slider that I love if I am doing a huge 8-10" crown, paneling, or lid work or small cuts with base cap or even large casing. I've beat the crap out of the DW716, cut miles of base, crown, deck work etc, in and out of the back of my truck, rained on, etc.. and it does a great job. I recommend for this product to get a thick kerf saw blade with 60+ teeth because of the saw capacity you will use it to cut tall material vertically, and you don't want a thin kerf to wander and deflect when you go down to make a cut. The stock blade is good for cutting things you dont want to cut with your expensive blades like demo material, pretreated wet lumber etc. A CMT or Forrest ChopMaster are great blades to use. The Freud Industrial blades are good as well but dont use the diablos, they dont last and are not in the same catagory as the industrial series. Another thing to mention is how convenient the miter over ride feature is for changing a 45 to a 45.5 etc.. This saw stays accurate and is very accurate. This saw is not the same as the cheaper 715 because the 715 has the motor on the right that gets in the way of big cuts and the 716 motor is placed higher up and has the bigger fence and dual bevels for changing weird base cuts etc. It is very accurate, cuts great and does a great Job for most tasks. It only cross cuts 8" however I flip the material over all the time and it always turns out a perfect 90.. I recommend also to build an auxiliary fence out of hardwood to not rely on the fence. They move a little with pressure because they are so tall but it's not worth discarding the thought to purchase this saw. Dust collection is suprizingly good and the bags fills up quickly. I could care less about dust collection because to me its no reason not to buy a saw. I think dust collection is over rated because u still have to sweep at the end of the day anyway so does it realy matter it all goes on the trash eventually. accuracy is whats important. The saw is very powerful and you can tell when you squeeze the trigger it jumps. No big deal if you're a carpenter, but an inexperienced do-it yourselfer might be intimidated by the power. I'm a finish carpenter and highly recommend in the Dewalt miter saw line as follows-the 708, the older 12" slider not the newer DW718, and this 716. The rest of them have been very disappointing on the job site. Hope this review helps a professional.

I purchased this as a replacement when my original De Walt single bevel 12" mitre saw bit the dust in November, right in the middle of a large deck job. I probably could have repaired the old one but it owed no service, having been with me for over 10 years in remodeling. A carpenter friend on my job last spring purchased the De Walt sliding compound 12" and I had a lot of chances to test drive its capabilities. It was an impressive saw, but it seemed like we really didn't use the sliding feature that much, with the exception of the oak stair treads...it was a great help on that task.

Under the gun to have a mitre saw, I quickly but intensely researched the sliders on the market and read every review I could find (including those at Amazon, thank you very much, fellow woodworkers). What worried me the most about them is, across the board, there seemed to be issues about accuracy due to play in the slider mechanism. Since I do custom work of all types, from framing to quality trim, stairs and built-in cabinets, accuracy in a saw is top on my list. My old De Walt was as accurate at the end of its life as it was when I bought it, with few adjustments needed in between. I looked at most of the popular sliders at the Home Depot and could definitely see how play could be an issue. Add to this their bulkiness and extra weight and you have some serious minuses on the old scoreboard.

So, I decided to stick with the strongarms of the staionary mitre saws, and purchased the double-bevel this time. So far, I have been very pleased. We were building an IPE', or ironwood deck ...one of the heaviest, hardest woods you will come across. With the included 60 tooth blade, the De Walt chewed through the IPE' like it was Spruce. I really think the belt drive on this model is an improvement. I was careful to let the saw get up to RPM (about a second) before starting the cuts, but then it was smooth sailing on even the nitpickiest angle. There is no room for error with IPE'... either it fits or it doesn't. We used the double-bevel feature a lot. It saved time when we had different, slightly off-square cuts to make on both ends of a board...didn't have to turn it end-for-end. When we were finished the deck looked like a piece of furniture, much to the delight of my happy clients.

If I had a con, it would be that the dust collector bag is small and stingy....I am using the one from my old saw. I have bought a better blade for when I do delicate stain-grade finish work, but I have not put it on yet. The 60 tooth works fine for most purposes.

I will try to give an update in 6 months or so. Right now, I'm a happy customer.

UPDATE: May '09 -- OK, so I forgot to do the update. Better late than never. This mitre saw is still going strong, and I use it frequently, though not every day on some jobs. Table still rotates smoothly, and cuts are still accurate and dependable. Still recommend it highly. - Dewalt - Miter Saws - Compound Miter Saw - Woodworking'

Carbon Monoxide

We live in a 4 level split home. Our gas furnace is on the lower, 3rd level. Two years ago we had several smoke alarms, but only one carbon monoxide detector on the top, bedroom level of our home. One early Saturday morning we awoke to the voice of this alarm broadcasting, "WARNING! CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTED!" over and over again. I got out of bed and took the batteries out of the unit. By then my then 16 year old daughter came out of her room and was watching me. I told her to go back to bed, but she asked me why we weren't going outside to our designated emergency spot. I thought I was being a bad example after all the years of telling the children to get our of the house if an alarm went off. I didn't think there was a problem. I assumed the unit was broken or needed a new battery. I wasn't thinking clearly. So, I put the batteries back in to see if it would go off again. It did. She again asked why we weren't following the rules and going outside, so we left the house and called 911.

When the firemen arrived I kept apologizing for calling them to our home for an obvious mistake. I thought the firemen would tell us it was a false alarm. It wasn't. The heater core had cracked and was leaking carbon monoxide. The levels were high enough to make us confused, but not yet put us to sleep. Had my daughter not watched me handle the alarm I would have gone back to sleep without ever putting the batteries back in. We were very lucky to have my daughter and this CM detector.

The voice made everything so much clearer than just a siren. If it hadn't said "carbon monoxide" I would have left the batteries out and gone back to sleep because I couldn't see any smoke or fire and I was tired. I don't think I would have thought about carbon monoxide. It was well worth every penny. I now have CM detectors on every floor of my home. This talking carbon monoxide detector helped save my families life. Kidde KN-COSM-B Battery-Operated Combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm with Talking Alarm

After looking at the excellent ratings for this product, I purchased two units and installed them - one each in the bedroom and the utility room. One day, I was getting the toddler to sleep when I smelt smoke and something burning. Upon exiting the bedroom (which has one detector), I noticed that the house was full of thick black smoke from a "microwave cooking accident". There was no fire. The fact that the smoke detector did not go off bothered me and I did a bit of reading on the detection systems. Turns out that there are two detection mechanisms - ionization and photoelectric...and to cut a long story short, one needs to have both types of mechanisms in operation. The manual of this product pretty much says the same thing on page 6. However, it does not tell me which smoke detection technology the unit uses - information that I can use to purchase a different smoke detector with the other mechanism to compliment this one. I can only know how good this product is when it responds to something that triggers it. It did not pick up smoke that I picked up by smelling, and the documentation is inadequate. That is why I give it a one.

I've installed installed two of these Kidde brand combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in my elder parents home. I have one in my own home as well and have found them all to be reliable and trouble free.

What attracted me to this model were its many features:

First, it has a low profile, attractive and unobtrusive design.

Second and perhaps most important, it has a voice speaking function that, in addition to the 85db alert horn, will speak out clear warnings: "FIRE, FIRE" or "DANGER: CARBON MONOXIDE". I think that this feature is a terrific addition toward modern life-safety technology. Indeed, you will likely see more voice warning devices in the near future.

We rely on these detectors to warn us, especially at night when we are sleeping. Awakening to this detector from a deep sleep helps orient you quickly by telling you the specific danger -- clearly and unmistakably. Notably, recent studies have shown that children can sleep through traditional smoke detector alarms, but will respond to voice warnings -- which this unit provides. Thus, placed in or near bedrooms this device can be a true lifesaver.

Another favorite feature is ease of installation. It was a breeze and truly could not be simpler. A screwriver is all you need. A small power drill/driver would speed the process, but is not necessary. Two screws into the ceiling or wall and you are done with the mounting bracket. The detector then just clicks in to place with a clockwise flick of the wrist. This is a do-it-yourselfer's dream. It doesn't get any easier!

Battery maintenance is easy too as all you need do is turn the detector counter-clock wise a few clicks, and down it comes. You slide open the battery cover, take out the old batteries and pop in the new. Replace the detector back in the attached ceiling bracket, give it a slight turn and in it goes with a firm click. Done! Easier than screwing in a light bulb.

Finally, the price is right! Under $40 for a unique life-safety device that is quickly installed and easily maintained.

I have elected to use Energizer lithium batteries and replace them every 12 months -- with no problems. You may wish to change the batteries every 6 or 9 months. Duracells would also be a good choice. I personally would not use the cheaper, so called "heavy duty" batteries in a life-safety device.

I should add that I would also suggest that if you have a home with multiple levels or an apartment with several rooms, having a separate stand-alone carbon monoxide detector elsewhere in the house as part of a total home plan would be a wise investment. Kidde also makes a fine combination model that protects against Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas. That unit, which has a digital display, runs on electricity and has a battery back-up system. It plugs in any electric outlet and can stay in the wall socket, or it can be placed flat on a table or dresser.

I would also recommend Kidde's dedicated dual sensor photoelectric/ionization smoke detectors. These dual sensor devices provide maximum warning under fast or slow moving fire conditions. As one never knows what kind of fire could occur, these are the most versatile.

Be sure to test your alarm regularly. REMEMBER that most carbon monoxide detectors NEED TO BE REPLACED about every five to seven years (see manufacturer's guidelines). Similarly, smoke detectors have a useable life span as well. It's usually a little longer than carbon monoxide detectors -- check your manufacturer's guidelines.'

Childrens Books - history, childrens books

"World War II for Kids: A History with 21 Activities" really has three key components. First, there is a history of World War II from Hitler's rise to power in 1933 to the surrender of the Japanese in 1945. Second, Richard Panchyk provides excerpts from actual wartime letters written to and by troops on both sides along with personal anecdotes from people who lived through the war. Finally, there are 21 activities that can show young readers how it felt to live through World War II, both on the battlefield and on the Home Front. Actually, the first function is the least impressive part of "World War II for Kids," although Panchyk provides a solid history of the war. It is just that the personal writings and recollections, along with the activities, are where Panchyk goes beyond what you would find in your standard American history textbook, which is why this is an excellent supplemental volume. Teachers can certainly use the activities and quote from the letters found in this volume to give students more of a sense of what it was like to live during that time. The 21 activities are fairly interesting and cover a variety of subjects. Some are fairly complex, such as substituting a potato for an incendiary bomb and following the instructions on how to extinguish it, or staging a radio adventure program, while others are relatively simply, such as drawing a recruiting poster. There is an exercise in code breaking, learning how to camouflage, making a ration kit, going on a reconnaissance mission, figuring oat a coastal defense, the physics of dropping bombs, and a game that helps demonstrate the difference between mortar and howitzer fire versus anti-tank and anti-aircraft fire. There are also "Home Front" activities like making a bandage, putting together a care package, growing a Victory Garden, sending V-Mail, and extending butter, as well as a couple of activities having to do with the Holocaust by making a Jewish star and trying to find good hiding places in your home for the student and an adult helper. Obviously some of these activities are going to be more practical and more beneficial than others, but Panchyk has made an attempt to come up with different ways of giving his young readers an idea of what it was like for kids and adults during World War II. Again, while young readers can certainly read this book and try the activities on their own, "World War II for Kids" is even better suited as a resource for teachers to use when teaching the pivotal events of World War II. Comparing what life was like for their grandparents during that war as opposed to the rather limited impact on their lives today during the war on terrorism could be quite an eye opener for young readers. World War II for Kids: A History with 21 Activities (For Kids series)

My 7 year old son is a WWII fanatic and loves this book. It discusses not only events in the war itself, but also the impact of the war on life in the U.S. The activities encourage kids to think about far-reaching effects of war, not just the exciting battles.

This book generally delivers on its purpose, which is to introduce young readers to the important topic of World War II. In my estimation, if your child isn't already interested, this book may not necessarily awaken him or her (Ambrose's "The Good Fight" is better), but for your interested son or daughter, ages 8 to 13 or so, this is a useful resource. As a history it is pretty light, but it is not a bad overview, and provides some great insight into the Home Front and other non-traditional perspectives on the War. There are a few WW-II themed crafts and activity ideas, all of which are pointless and the very type of things that children and their parents ignore the world over.

I used this book for a program on WWII for 7-10 year olds. The activities were age appropriate and gave the children a perspective of this time in history. Activities can be adapted for older children. - History - American History - Childrens Books - Kids'

Folding Knives

With knifes, you have to use and abuse them a little before you can write a fair review based on it's performance. For most knifes of this price you wouldn't expect super high quality as you would with prominent knife makers like Benchmade or CRKT, etc. In this instance, however, this is actually a fairly well made knife. And, I will be quick to point out it is made out of the same high quality steel that most high end knifes are made from (440C). I have had no problems so far with mine in the two months that I have had it and I use it A LOT. Mostly as a utility knife but it would make an excellent all around everyday and campers knife. It has kept a sharp edge so far and the tip has not bent or been damaged even though I have used the tip to pry open things. The design is nice and comfortable to hold. The lock has worked well and consistent. I had to actually loosed the screws on mine with a torx wrench just a little so that the "quick open" finger notch worked more smoothly. With a light flick it whips open quickly now. It is super thin & the pocket clip works nicely. It's not too heavy even though it is a decent sized knife. I would rate this overall as a very useful utility and/or campers/hikers knife and would recommend it! Mtech Extreme Tactical Folding Pocket Knife

I bought this knife for my 14-year-old son, and he loves everything about it (and I certainly loved its low price!). But after two weeks of use, the screw on which the blade pivots loosened and fell out. Fortunately my son retrieved the part and handed all of it to me to be repaired.

If this happens to you -- and enough users on Amazon have reported problems with these screws backing out that you might want to anticipate it -- you'll need a small Torx screwdriver (size "T8" to be precise) and a bit of Loctite, or similar thread locker (available at any hardware store or auto parts store). The blade is surrounded by a nylon bushing on each side. Once you make sure that those bushings are in place, put a drop of Loctite on the screw, and use the Torx driver to tighten it to just where you would like it -- tight enough to have little or no play, but loose enough that you can extend the blade with a flick of the wrist. I'd suggest using "removable" threadlocker rather than "permanent", just in case you ever want to change the screw adjustment. And use just a drop; you don't want to foul the nylon bushings that keep the blade moving smoothly.

Incidentally, for those of you with video-game-playing kids, you might already own a T8 Torx driver, because it's the same tool that opens up an Xbox 360 controller. If you don't have one, you can get this one on Amazon for about five bucks: Silverhill Tamper Resistant Torx size T8 for Xbox 360 Controller

In spite of this annoyance -- and it definitely IS annoying -- the knife is an awesome bargain, fully meeting my son's needs.

I was pleasantly surprised when I first received this knife in the mail. It's really nice looking, extremely sharp and works great. Within two weeks of using the knife, I was missing all of the tiny screws that hold the knife together. For $5, you get what you pay for I guess. But I almost stabbed myself the first time I reached for it and it was open all of the way because the screws weren't holding it together any longer.

I got this knife the other day and at first I was a bit skeptical about it. When I took it out of the box I was immediately suprised with how good it looked. Even though the grapghics are painted on, it still looks great. The blade is a good length for a tactical folder. It is a bit on the heavy side but I dont mind so owell. The blade deploys nicely with a good flick. I also purchased a S&W extreme ops(partially serrated) blade as my edc knife. Ill probably carry both and recommend both. Hope this review was helpfull.

This knife isn't a great buy because it's a great knife, but a great knife because it's a great buy. Come on, you get an almost 4", 440c blade with finger flipper, lanyard holes, tactical features, comfortable handle, cool blade paint and deep carry pocket clip for 7 change delivered. The drop point blade is fairly thick and menacing with a nice even grind and edge. The flipper acts as a finger choil if needed. You would think this folder cost 50 bucks after listening to some of the complaints in other reviews. At this price I'm willing to sharpen the blade and tighten a screw or two... what's the big deal? Of course it's not going to be a zero defect knife at this price. By the way, mine was extremely sharp out of the box and my screws haven't budged. My blade does not lock tightly into the handle as others have stated and can come loose but at this price I'll live with it or fix it if possible. For The Money, This Knife Rocks! I would recommend it to anybody and I'm going to buy a few more.

This is an amazing knife for the money. It is so easy to sharpen, and holds an edge as well as any stainless should.

Its no high carbon steel, but its a folder, leave the nice metals for a full tang, large knife.

The only downside to this knife, if carried regularly, is that the screws holding the whole this together will unscrew themselves. I learned this the hard way as one fell out and was lost. I found out that if you take them out, and apply a dab of super glue to the end, and screw them back in tightly, the glue will slide through the threading and keep it in place unless a significant amount of force is used to take them out.

Problem solved!

But really, a great knife, smooth to flip, a breeze to sharpen, and a cool factor that has all my friends oohing.

this is a great knife to have, at only [...]. i can't review this knife simply bunched up, so i separated it....

Blade: 4/5

good design, drop point blade. the steel is 440, the blade claims to be 440C, however, the edge holding durability and the cheapness makes this knife appear to me to be 440A. it has a soft fence design, non glare. the design does rub off if your cutting something hard like wood. it sharpens up nicely, but the blade gets blunt faster then better quality steels. there is a finger choil on the blade tat allows you to choke up on it, but it's pretty small, and if you have large fingers it might not be safe. the blade has a flipper and ambidextrous thumb-studs. the flipper has aggressive jimping, and the thumb studs are grooved, but not knurled or textured.

Handle 3/5

the handle is ergonomic, but the grooves are placed so that you need either large hands, or smallish hands. in between and your small finger may get jammed on the last groove.

lockup (liner lock) 4/5

the lockup is solid front to back, however, from side to side there is minuscule, almost invisible to the naked eye movement. it does have a ball bearing detent, although the ball bearing or the detent is not very strong. the ball bearing detent is a small ball bearing in the blade, and then a small dip in the handle that is not visible. it keeps the blade closed, and it helps assist in manual opening. the liner lock has a aggressive imping- almost too aggressive.

opening it 3/5

the knife opens as a onehanded manual- as in it is not assisted. i don't know why there is a flipper in the back, because to open it that way you need to accompany it with a wrist flick.

other things- it has a lanyard hole, and a nice blackened clip.

i like it, buy it.'

Smoke Detector - smoke alarms, ionization

I purchased 4 Kidde PI9000 Dual mode detectors to replace working, but old detectors in our home. One failed within a month and after returning to Kidde at my expense they replaced it. Took at least 4 weeks to get the replacement. A few months later another failed, again I sent it back and received a replacement. Now at less than 2 years, two more have failed. I bought 4, I've had 4 failures, and I have two working at the moment.

I can't see how this failure rate is acceptable by any standard. Kidde PI9010 Battery-Operated Dual Ionization and Photoelectric Sensor Smoke Alarm

Even though there are many, many types of smoke detectors available, there really isn't much choice. Literature on fire safety says to get one that has both the ionization feature and the photoelectric feature. You see many that only have one feature or they combine it with a carbon monoxide detector. Get a smoke detector that focuses on its job. Get a separate carbon monoxide detector and locate it down at your level instead of high on a ceiling.

The alarm is nice and loud, which I need. I wish it could wirelessly activate the other alarms when it goes off. You have to remove the smoke detector to change the battery, but that is very easy to do.

Don't forget to mark on your long term calendar to replace it in 8-10 years. The ionization feature may not work after that.

I purchased several of these alarms for use in our home's bedrooms. Today, I came home to the sound of a smoke alarm going off. In our bedroom.

I rushed upstairs, but all seemed to be well. The alarm was continuous, just like an actual smoke alarm, rather than a low battery signal, which has a longer pause between beeps. I changed the battery, and the result was the same. It didn't matter that there wasn't -- thankfully -- so much as a spark or whiff of smoke in sight (or smell.) I took an identical alarm out of another room and placed it in our room. No alarm. And, yes, the self-test worked.

Looks like I'll have to buy another. I am only glad that the alarm didn't go off at, say, three am. I can only wonder if the unit would have worked in the event of an actual fire, as I have no way of diagnosing the cause of its malfunction. Needless to say, I'm strongly considering finding a comparable unit from another manufacturer.

Two of Three units have not worked since purchase. Have tried calling Kidde multiple times. Once got hung up on by rep (after waiting 11 minutes on hold to be connected to a rep) because I asked where to find information she was asking for on product. I called again and (after waiting 14 minutes on hold to be connected to a rep)got immediate hang up by customer service without being able to talk to a rep.

I had purchased the 'First Alert' dual sensor alarm (with remote feature), and it gave me nothing but false alarms, some in the middle of the night! Not so with the Kidde. Plus getting to and installing the 9V battery was much much easier on the Kidde than on the unintuitive 'First Alert'. This Kidde dual sensor alarm is the way to go if you want simplicity, ease of use, and peace of mind. I think I am going to purchase a few more now that I know this model works flawlessly.

I bought 3 of this in September 2008, and as of now, July 2010, 2 out of them have already died within two years. They died in the same way: just beep for nothing and would not stop. If you push "HUSH" button, then they silence for 10 minutes and resume beeping for nothing. This is crap, expensive crap!

I did a lot of research before buying this alarm. I ended up buying two this model and the Kidde 900-0102 both are dual sensor. I placed this model in the basement and the other alarm upstairs because it has a voice alarm that I liked. Each unit installs in a snap!

I purchased three Kidde PI9000 smoke alarms and one failed straight out of the box. I put the battery in and attempted to test the alarm. The test failed. I took the battery out and noticed it was hot and could smell that the alarm was "cooked." I am sure it is a fine smoke alarm, but am posting this to give folks an idea of the failure rates.

I have created a 9 volt power supply for my main residence and a vacation home, used to power dual sensor smoke alarms, that are tied into my security systems. First Alert sensors at the vacation home repeatedly false alarmed. I replaced the two there with pi9000 Kiddes. They have worked fine for well over a year. However, not so "lucky" here at main home. I bought 4 to replace 10+ old dual sensor First Alerts. One only is working fine so far ( 1 week). But the other three are failing. They will, after several hours on the 9 volt supply, suddenly drop the voltage in the system, and an ammeter shows they are pulling over 150 ma! This must be what is happening to others folks who are reporting failures. There is some component in these units, not all of them, that is failing. Now what do I do? When not failing, these are the best dual sensor units on the market, but how many do I have to buy before getting the ones I need?!! - Kidde - Ionization - Smoke Alarms - Photoelectric'

This little capsule is a powerhouse compared to what I paid for my Blue mic for iPod. I can't tell the differences in sound, but I can tell the differences in convenience. As soon as I plug in the little thing my iPod immediately goes to the proper folder waiting for me to click Record... my Blue makes me find the folder, so it's definitely not as quick to use. There's no external volume control but it seems to automatically adjust for most quiet and loud sounds even if I leave my iPod's internal volume control set to its highest setting. And it's easy to pop it out and pop in my earbuds to check what I've recorded. Now I don't even check because I know what's there and I know it's more than just a "satisfactory" recording. Oh, and I use mine on an iPod Classic 120GB. There's a little loop for a neck string on the little critter's cap so I have mine tied to my iPod's leather case for quick access... I have to take my iPod out of the case to use the Blue mic, which is an inconvenience. Enjoy. Black Mini Microphone for iPhone 3G 3GS iPod touch 1st 2nd 3rd Gen classic Video

I bought this mic for my iPod Touch 3rd generation, it plain rocks! It's indeed a bit small but I bought a separate extension cable (a sort of male to female microphone extender cable) that helps me plug both ends when I'm not using it (that way I won't drop it and lose it). It is very sensitive and works great with the included Voice Memos recording app. I bought the iTalk app but ended up not using it due to the fact that it requires a wireless connection to transfer the recordings. iTalk is amazing if you don't mind that limitation. Voice Memos lets me transfer my recorded files through iTunes (on a regular DSL cable home network), so, both are recommended depending on how you plan to pitch the files out from your device.

I was looking for something to record class lectures with and though I was skeptical it would work, I thought for 2 bucks.. let's give it ta try. The ONLY way this would successfully record lectures is if I had the instructor hold my ipod the entire time. I tested it with a coworker speaking in a normal voice 6 feet away, it did not pick up the sound of her voice. So if you're looking for something to take voice notes of yourself or can have your ipod with the speaker.. this might work for you. If not, you might want to pop for a mic with more range.

The microphone for the Ipod Touch 2G works perfectly with the exception that when you use the microphone say for anything VOIP it cuts off the AUDIO which in my case defeats the reason in needing the microphone. The product is good, just the applications need to be further clarified.

Product was cheap and delivered fast. It does what I want when I use my ipod as a voip phone. I hate the earphone mic. This stays much more like a convential mic and I use the external speaker. It does pick up background noise , so a quiet area is needed, but it does exactly what I want and need.

this product works great, i use it for my ipod touch,

this product built tough for wear. tell you what i

done, fotgot left in my shirt pocket. my wife washed

it up when she done her laundry, when i got out of

the washer. i pluged in my ipod touch worked as if

nothing happend to it, luv this product worth the

money. great product. - Ipod Accessories - Ipod Touch 3g - Great Product - Ipod Audio Recorder'

Laser - led

Schubert (RPI) has written an excellent book on LEDs that manages to explain and derive simple quantitative models for many phenomena of current interest. He tackles issues such as resonant cavity LEDs, reliability/surface recombination issues, current spreading theory, etc. Many monographs are a compendium of results in the field with hundreds of references to papers, which are briefly discussed, and are written by several authors. In contrast, Schubert, while giving copious references, is the sole author, leading to a coherent presentation well suited to learning. There are plentiful and good figures and drawings, as well as many exercises and solutions integrated into the text. There are no back of chapter problems, but this is not really a text for lower level undergraduates. Light-Emitting Diodes

This book is for master , PHD or higher. Lots of graduate school physics, math. Researcher, scientest engineering grad. school student may find it useful for studying light emmiting semiconductor material. I was a electrical engineer myself. I am tring to find practical applications of LED and LED products design technics find this book not very useful.

It is a great book for pople interested in the LED device. It is disappointing in people interested in the processing to make the device. I hope Prof. Schubert will add that dimension in his next book on this topic.

I just bought one of these through Amazon and it turned out to be the 1st (2003) edition instead of the 2nd (2006). The Amazon ordering system doesn't seem to distinguish between them so make sure you get the right one. There are substantial differences!

In its Second Edition - this book is much improved and far more up-to-date, with plenty of practical advice as well theory/design. But still no discussion of band-structure in any detail - which I feel is a weakness of this text. Some valuable material on Nitrides is now included. Overall - this is now arguably the best LED book in the market-place at this time.

This book provides the details on LED physics that I sought. It describes how key parts of the LED structure contribute to overall performance, and how LED's have been improved over the years. It is well written. I do not intend to use most of the equations included in this book, still I found it relatively easy to understand. I am already familiar with many of the silicon based technologies having worked on manufacturing processes and tools for IC's, TFT's, and solar cells (PV). This book was recommended to me by a technologist working on LED's. I recommend this book to the serious technologist who's trying to understand how to improve LED's and their use.

I think, the book contains all the basic information about the LEDs. It contains very helpful information regarding to the structure of LEDs, their design, the optimization of the LED performance, colorimetry, etc.

I think the only negative point related to this book is that sometimes the variables/parameters in the equations are not given clearly. Therefore reader should look at the previous pages to understand these parameters/variables. - Led'

Remote Lighting Control - wireless switch, wireless light switch

I bought 4 of the Stanley 30412 Wireless Wall swiches. They are easy to install and work fine. My only problem is that if you turn on/off any one of the four switches, they ALL turn on/off at the same time. Stanley 30412 Indoor Wireless Wall Switch Transmitter Remote Control, White

This is NOT the item Amazon has pictured. Although this item looks very similar, it's not. Upon closer inspection, it seems that Amazon has a computer generated image.

My main gripe about this product is the switch itself. Due to the design, this is not a true switch - but rather a piece of plastic that pivots at a central point that presses two micro buttons on a PCB that LOOKS like a switch.

The problem with this design, is the way it's designed! If you don't press the "switch" in the right spot, the plastic doesn't contact the micro button correctly and it does not send the ON/OFF signal to the receiver. You have to press the "switch" rather hard to get it to contact the micro buttons on the PCB, and since you have to press it in the correct place (towards the middle of the "switch"); If the room is dark, good luck trying to figure out how to turn on the lights!

Another feature that I don't like about this is the light on the receiver is constantly ON. Although it's an indication of power to the receiver, I can see it being a bad thing in some situations (Red LED lighting up your room when you're trying to sleep). I'd prefer it turn on and off with the device, not be steadily lit.

I own a few Billy Mays promoted Handyswitch wireless switches and love them. I decided to try this Stanley wireless switch for some of the lights in my computer room instead of another Handyswitch because this was a cheaper option. I will not be buying one of these ever again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you want a good wireless wall switch, I would recommend the Handyswitch; which I will be buying to replace this thing.

I'd give it 1 star, but since it somewhat does the job - I'll tack another one on for good measure.

Pros:

- inexpensive

- simple to install

Cons:

- almost requires line of sight

- very picky about location

- not a real switch

- only about a 12-15ft range in my experience

After seeing mostly negative reviews about every brand of wireless switches/transmitters, I decided to give this one a try because it was cheap. It works...mostly. It is very picky about location. Putting it next to as opposed to on top of molding or orienting it horizontally vs vertical makes the difference between working and not working. Basically you need line of sight which you really shouldn't need in a product like this that is not IR. I am not crazy about the button either. It is really two buttons with rocker switch as opposed to a regular light switch. The range was about 12-15 feet if you didn't have any doorways or molding in the way. It is an inexpensive fix if you a short jump you need to bridge. Otherwise don't expect too much.

The product you sent me, consists of a receiver that plugs into a recepticle to control whatever you plug into the receiver. I wanted a product where the receiver replaces a wall on/off switch. In other words I want to remotely turn my overhead garage lights on or off with a handheld remote transmitter. As I recall your website description did not make it clear.

This product did not work for me at all. Each part seemed to work: the little lights would light up at the right time. But the switch module failed to control the plug module. I took it apart, thinking there might be some sort of mismatched code, or something, inside, and fiddled with it awhile. I could sometimes get it to work when I held the transmitter right next to the plug module, but only about 10% of the time.

Worst product I've ever bought from Amazon.

I bought this product at Osh a few days ago. Hey, it Stanley, that's a reliable name. Boy was I wrong.

I need to control some lights on top of a bookcase, so after getting every thing connected, the only place the remotes would work is above the top of the bookcase, no more than three feet away.

I bought new batteries and still the same problem.

I have another remote switch (Westek® Wireless Wall Mounted Switch & Receiver (RFK100)) that's been working fine for seven years in another part of the house. I put it on the bookcase and it works fine, the remote is two rooms away, glued to the island in the kitchen.

Don't waste your money on this product, spend the extra dollars and get the Westek.

I'm of to to Osh to return these Stanley switches, then to Ace Hardware tomorrow to get more Westek switches.

I purchased this item in December 2009. It looks great. I mounted the wall switch, but the problem is that it is not responsive. I need to press the rocker switch multiple times for it to turn on/off the lamp. It is very temperamental. When I called the manufacturer The NCC (it's not Stanley since only the name is licensed) they told me to try replacing the battery. The Duracell battery I bought cost half of what I paid for the product, but even with a fresh battery, the light switch (remote) is still unresponsive. It works when it wants to. I called the 800# stamped on the unit again this week, but cannot get a person on the phone. I submitted an inquiry through [...], but I have not received a reply. This item is not worth buying.

Of course the main point is - the remote switch works perfectly for me.

Two downsides:

1) The outlet is on the receiver's side - I couldn't plug the cord from my table lamp into it and had to use an extension cord.

2) The switch is trying to follow the decora line, but frankly it's quite ugly. I would't put it on the same wall with the real decora.

This product is a great solution to an ill placed light switch. I just keep the remote switch on the bedside table and use it to control the room lights that I used to have to get out of bed to turn off. Good quality switch. - Wireless Light Switch - Wireless Switch - Remote - Light'

Fitness Gloves - womens althetic gloves, gloves

I read the customer reviews before purchasing this product. Everyone recommeneded ordering one size up. Instead, I ordered according to the sizing chart on harbinger's website. According to the measurements, I required a medium...which is what I ordered. Upon receiving them I found them to be surprisingly too big. They were loose, and unlike other customers, I found the finger holes to be quite big. I double checked the pacakaging and tags inside the gloves. They both claim M. I hate the hassle of returning items, so for $10....I will probably just give them away. Still a waste. They seem to be of good quality, other than being slightly scratchy on the inside due to seams. Harbinger 154 Power Women's StretchBack Gloves (Black, Large)

Overall these gloves provide decent hand protection, and have allowed my calluses to go away. Here are my complaints though: 1)fit - I checked the company's sizing chart and ordered a medium. While the palm size is decent, I found the fingers and wrist to be too loose - which means they slide more than I'd like. 2)Length - I personally would have liked the fingers to be a little longer. It would have been nice if they at least reached up to the first knuckle (I have short fingers too). Plus, since the fingers are loose on me, they slide down and cover even less so my fingers barely have any protection at all. That can get uncomfortable for me since my weights have a textured grip which rubs more than a smooth surface would. The only way to compensate is to try and pull the glove up, but that doesn't really work too well. Overall these are a decent pair of gloves. For me though, I think there is probably a better pair out there.

In about two months they were A MESS.. Smelly (not my hands, leather smell) falling apart etc. I guess its time to get a new one but I d much rather buy a pair that LASTS. No need to buy a new pair every two months.

I read that the gloves run a little small so I purchased a medium. My hand is 5 1/2 inches long and my left ring finger size is a 4 1/2, (right is a 5)so I should have purchased a small or X-small. Hopefully this gives you an idea what size to buy. The medium was way too big. Serves its purpose though... :)

I actually think these fit nicely. I just retired my old pair after 1 year (the trim around the wrist ripped loose and the seam on the inside of the thumb hole came apart-- which isn't weight lifting wear and tear but poor craftsmanship). I throw mine in the washing machine periodically, though, so perhaps that's what did them in. I just tried some Valeos to see if they would last longer... they probably will, but the fit is off for me. I have fairly large but thin hands (I am a medium in these), and the thumb part of my palm is relatively large. The thumb fits great on me in these Harbingers. The Valeos are too short (you'd think it wouldn't matter in a fingerless glove) and if I went a size up they'd be too loose. Also the middle finger is a little longer on these, which I need for pull down bars. So I guess I'd rather have to buy a new pair of these each year and have them fit well than have a durable pair with a funny fit. - Gloves - Womens Althetic Gloves - Lifting - Fitness'

Portable Grill

My wife purchased this for me for fathers day and we bring it everywhere we go! No kidding this thing is so sleek we can fire it up and eat anything practically anywhere

a must have for the grilling enthusiast! Coleman PerfectFlow Propane Camp Grill

I bought this as a backup in case my favorite campground in Idaho had a fire ban on. However, I decided to use it with my griddle the first time I took it there. It is great. Nice even heat and the griddle's small legs fit into the grooves so it does not slide around. I used it every morning for pancakes and cooking bacon. Way better than using a camp stove and a griddle combination. I highly recommed it to anyone. If you are going to use it as a BBQ then take along a good cleaner to clean underneath its grills.

Used multiple times camping, ended up having to cook the meat on a frying pan on our stove. The grill heats up fine but since there is no cover the food just can't cook through since there is not way to keep the heat in.

We have had this little camp grill for over a year. Works perfectly every time. It has been used probably 7 times (mainly for burgers and dogs) and we have yet to empty our first propane canister. The trick to easy clean-up is to line the bottom of the grill (under the burner) with a sheet of foil. It catches the grease and all you have to do is throw it away. You can also line the grate with nonstick foil, poke some holes and voila, virtually no clean-up at all. I would recommend this grill to anyone wanting an effective grill with an attractive, sleek and compact design.

We bought this for camping and it works great!! We buy the canisters of propane @ Walmart for less than 5 bucks and it cleans up easy! Storage is a breeze as well, since it's so slim and lightweight! Recommend highly!'

Watch Batteries - button batteries, scale battery

A great price on these batteries, but unfortunately I've found they only last about 1/3 as long as the name brand versions you find at the local drug store. Given the price, they might still be worth it even though you end up changing them out quicker, but I'm torn because I'm ending up creating a lot more trash by using these - which is not very environmentally friendly of me. Powertron Lithium 3V Batteries Size CR2032 (Pack of 25)

There's no free lunch - or free button batteries. These do work, but they do not work for long. Very low power devices such as car/garage door remotes might be OK, but you will still be changing them frequently - and encountering dead batteries much more often. I have a pedometer which was using a battery every three months. It uses one of these every TWO WEEKS. Great price, but you get what you pay for. Considering the hassles of changing batteries, and the inconvenience of dead ones, I cannot recommend this product.

NOT WORTH THE PRICE, no matter how low, or how many you get.

I bought these because I get free shipping through Amazon Prime. I wish I had just waited to get out to the local big box store because what a waste of money...these batteries only last 3-4 hours in my dog's training collar, and that's without USING the collar...just keeping it on.

I purchased these to go in a remote shock collar for a dog. The collar eats batteries when it's left on, but turning it on/off makes it extremely inconvinient to use. I was getting around 3 days of standby and sporatic use out of Duracell and Energizer batteries from the grocery store. They cost anywhere from $1.5 - $2 each, and the collar uses 2 at a time. With these I'm getting arounc 2 days under the same usage patterns, but they cost around $0.15 each. While these obviously only last about 2/3 as long as the major name batteries, the price difference is 10-12x, so these are still a very good value if you don't mind changing batteries a tad more often.

I thought it was a good deal when I ordered but you definitely get what you paid for. I got them for a training dog collar that we used only a couple times a day (a total of 30 seconds a day maybe)and the batteries only lasted 2 days at the most. Made it hard to train my dog when the collar never worded when I needed it. I'd hate so see how long they last in an electronic device that was used more frequently.

So far, I've only used a pair of these in my Kandle (LED light for the Kindle). They didn't last long, especially compared with the spare pair of Maxell batteries Kandle included in the package. Hopefully, this was an anomaly and the rest will work better (though I doubt it).

These are terrible batteries. I used them in several different products and they seemed very weak at first and only lasted 2-3 hours with device turned on standby mode. Spend a little more and get name brand.

They may not last as long as some of the more expensive batteries, but for the small LED projects I am doing they lasted fine. Got a couple weeks solid use for lighting some super bright LEDs. The interest in the project wore out before the batteries. Arrived quickly and are packaged just as shown. This is my second time buying theses batteries, and I have recommended them to others. Next time I need a large quantity of these 3V CR2032 batteries I will get them again.

I bought these to use in the chest strap to my heart rate monitor, but they are so weak that the chest strap can't even work like it should. I am 10 days past the 30 day warranty and the company won't refund my money even though they have sold me worthless junk. Other reviewers have at least gotten an hour or two out of the batteries, but I didn't even get that. So I am stuck with 25 completely worthless batteries. Lesson learned- I will never order anything from this junk peddling company again. I would rate this product with no stars if it let me. - Battery - Button Batteries - Scale Battery - Cr2032'
