Random-orbit Sandpaper - mirka, hand tools

Mirka paper is not only the quality choice; it is also a bargain at Amazon prices. I had previously purchased a full box of Mirka paper for my 6" sander, in the most popular grades. Have since done a lot of sanding with it. This brand of sandpaper is great. It is aluminum oxide which lasts and lasts. Additionally the backing pad is made from thick material, so it holds up well, and won't bugger the edges of your sander. I had a body shop for twenty years, and came to realize the advantage of quality sandpaper. The cheap stuff does not hold up. You will go through a zillion sheets of paper, and will actually cost you more because of it. The Mirka paper lasts so long, that I wind up with a used stack. By the time it is to change to a different grit, the existing piece isn't worn out yet, so I keep them. I went into Home Depot and checked out the Norton paper, I wasn't impressed. It also costs less per box, but they only give you 25 sheets instead of 50 like these Mirka boxes. So you get twice as many sheets here for only half again as much money. Not only is it a bargain up front, then the paper lasts a lot longer, not to mention the superior job it produces. You can't beat that. This is the paper deal you want. Load up. Mirka rules. Mirka 23-615-AP 5-Inch 8-Hole Assorted Grits (10 Each Of 80/100/120/150/220) Dustless Hook-and-Loop Sanding Disks

I absoulutely love the Mirka 5" Dustless Hook and Loop Assortment Pack. It included everything I need to start sanding all the different woodworking projects that I do. I was impressed with how long the disks lasted and how well they stayed in place on my Makita Orbital Disk Sander.

This is the best paper a woodworker can purchase. I've tried other hook and loop for my DeWalt orbital and have found none better as far as finished work. This papers life expectancy is greater than the competators paper also. Enough said just use it

We have used the Mirka PSA papers purchased from our former supplier, now ourt of business. We have been looking for a source to purchase a paper with a good sanding life that does not fill. We use it on raw wood or finished. We are also, at times, required to use Mirka to sand strip furniture and when we do, we experience three to four time the life of other highily recommended papers. Mirka is tough, dependable, and leaves a good surface for finishing. We are PLEASED to find another source for this quality sanding paper. Our experience speaks to us Mirka if your looking for a quality result!!!!!!!

Not sure how much more I can say about sanding disks other than the title of my review.

I was not familiar with the Mirka name and was very pleasantly surprised at the cost and quality. Been buying Norton abrasives, at the big box stores and Mirka blows Norton away, both in quality and cost per disk.

The sanding projects I have used these disks on has mostly been for sanding pine and a little oak. Seems to hold up well in both cases. Did use a 80 grit disk to remove some surface rust from a rusty shovel. Did OK... but I suspect there are better abrasives for that type of job.

Try a box of these. You won't be sorry.

These work very well and last quite a long time. The price Amazon sells them for makes them an excellent value and the assortment is a great way save money as opposed to buying smaller quantities in stores or bulk packs of each grit. Perhaps of no consequence to others, but I am quite glad these are not yet another cheap Chinese made product, they are made in Norway.

This product is a good value and is what it is. The dustless hook and loop sanding disc system is the only way to go. When combined with a compatible palm sander, such as a DeWalt or Porter Cable, (I have the DeWalt) and a vacuum system it is virtually dustless.

I've used this paper regularly for varied materials... metal prep, hardwoods, soft woods, fiberglass, plastics... Mirka has always been one of the top brands and they've been fairly consistent in quality. Very good clog-resistance for all materials I've tried so far. Plus, a great price for a 50-pk assortment... will definitely be ordering more here as I need them.

These disks are on par wit a Klingspor which for most projects would be great. Unfortunately, I usually work with hardwood. The Mirka are worth a try but be aware if you are too aggressive on hardwoods, these will not last as you may have anticipated. For hardwoods I usually use blue zirconia - these discs will outlast all other types especially hard materials such as hard wood, metal, fiberglass, gel coats, etc. Or a premiium red A.O. resin on heavy "E" or "F" weight paper. For the price of the Mirka I would recommend them for most applications. - Hand Tools - Woodworking - Sandpaper - Mirka'

There's an error in the add, you actually get twice the amount than it says(huge bottle :)) I can't believe I waited so long to discover this fragrance because it's been out for years. I received it as a Valentine's Day present. I get soooo many compliments on it, I can't even count them. What's great is that I love it too. When I ran out I went straight to Amazon for the best price. What a nice surprise it was when I ordered it I got twice the size I was expecting for the price. 360 6.7 Fl. oz. Office Supplies - post-it, bookmark

I love post it arrows. I keep some in my desk, my computer bag, and in my bum roll. They're great for bookmarks and for 'tabbing' pages in books that you are going to use again and again. I would not have made it through some of my grad school classes without tabbing the APA manual for certain footnote styles.

The great thing is when you are done with the arrow, just toss it. They don't mar the page, but they stay where you put them, unlike my traditional bookmarks which get stolen by my cat and put in my bed at 3:00 AM.

Rebecca Kyle, October 2008 Post-it Arrow Flags, 1/2-inch, Ideal For Marking And Flagging Paper Documents, 4 Assorted Colors, 96 Flags per Dispenser (684-ARR4)

I also thought I was getting 4 packages of these flags, but just got one with 4 different colored flags. Not sure if that was the intent or not. Although I would have paid the same price at Office Depot, free shipping saved me a trip to the store and waiting in line for an item that I did not need immediately.

Buyer be aware that this is really only 1 pack of four colors. Before I ordered it I felt that the offer was too good to be true. The list price was 14.19 and it was being offered for 6.35. Shipping was free. It came quickly but I could have got the same thing at any office supply store for the same net price. - 3m - Post-it - Post-its - Bookmark'

Halloween Costume

After looking at several other labcoat's reviews, I decided to buy this one. It was exactly what I was looking for. I needed a labcoat for a tall person, and this did not disappoint. It was a tad big, but I took it in anyways. The fabric was wonderful and it was very sturdily put together. I love the three pockets as well as the slits in the sides so you can reach your own pockets. It was very easy to handle and doesn't wrinkle as much as I anticipated. Full Length Lab Coat tall, 50T, White

This lab coat was of excellent quality. The only down side was the shipping cost to Alaska was as much as the Lab coat itself. When I voiced my concern, the company refunded my shipping cost. I would definitely recommend this company to others.'

Superhero - tv series

Of all the major superheroes, Captain America has been the unluckiest -- it took SEVENTY YEARS for a decent movie about him to be made.

So what were the NON-decent movies that were made along the way? "Captain America / Captain America II: Death Too Soon" is a pretty good example -- not only does it throw out all the original comic book backstory, but it ends up being cheesy, action-deficient and boring. Way too boring to be campy.

In "Captain America," ex-Marine Steve Rogers (Reb Brown) is toodling around California in his nondescript van, not really doing anything. But then an old friend is murdered, and for some reason the bad guys also decide to attack Steve because they think he knows the location of secret classified film.

The only way to save his life is to inject him with FLAG, an experimental super-drug that Steve's father created so he could become a superhero. This is the point where all Captain America fans go cross-eyed. So after being bribed with superhero gear (like a rocket-powered motorcycle) Steve reluctantly becomes Captain America, and helps hunt down the evil men who are planning to nuke an American city.

Then in "Captain America II: Death Too Soon," Steve is sent out to investigate a missing scientist who had some kind of aging compound stolen by famous terrorist Miguel (Christopher Lee). It leads him to a small town that immediately tries to get him to get lost, apparently because they were told to act as suspiciously as possible.

"Captain America" and "Captain America II: Death Too Soon" are, hands down, the dullest superhero movies I have ever seen in my life. Not only do they toss out EVERYTHING about Captain America (except the silly costume and the name), but they instead produce two generic thrillers that have plot holes the size of Steve's van.

For one thing, there's almost no action. Captain America spends more time running away from bad guys than actually fighting them, meaning that the ENTIRE FIRST MOVIE has only one fight scene (which mainly involves Steve pushing slabs of meat at the bad guys). The second movie is substantially better, but most of both movies seem to consist of... talking and driving.

NOTE TO FILMMAKERS: long lingering shots of OTHER people riding motorcycles are simply not interesting.

And the acting is not much better. Lead actor Reb Brown looks like he's been drugged much of the time, when his character isn't whining about how he just wants to be a wandering artist. Most of the other characters are so underdeveloped and nondescript that it's hard to remember them; the one exception is Christopher Lee, who seems vaguely annoyed all the time.

The 1970s were not kind to Captain America, and "Captain America/Captain America II: Death Too Soon" end up being too dull to be campy fun. Captain America / Captain America II: Death Too Soon

When I was a kid, I thought these two movies were really cool. It was around the time the Marvel had made deals with CBS to bring Characters like Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Doctor Strange to TV. You would think that they were going to be as well written and produced as the Hulk was, but alas, Captain America was not.

The story was set in the late 1970's instead and used the idea that Steve Rogers had just gotten out of the Marines and was called in by a scientist that had worked with Steve's Father on a Steroid called F.L.A.G (Full Latent Ability Gain). The Steroid worked to increase the stregth of the person or animal ifused with it, but killed them in the end. The only one that could take it was Steve, because it was from his Father. His Father apparently was the 1st Captain America.

Ok, This verges off from what the actual origon of the cahracter is. We don't even get a good looking sheild in this. It's a Bulletproof Glass that looks terrible. He can throw it like a boomarang, but it looks really fake. The only cool part was the bike he rode. The story is fractured. The villian in the 1st film know that if Steve gets the FLAG steoid, that he would be able to do things that only a perfect human could do. How did the villian find out about FLAG? We don't even get a suit that resembles the comic suit until the tale end of the first one. It looks really poor. It was a good try, but they should have taken their que from Wonder Woman and possibly started this in the 1940's instead.

I remember watching this (and the first Captain America movie) on CBS in the late 1970s. I thought it was the coolest thing. Reb Brown looked like Captain America should look. I had a chance to watch both movies again over the summer on the SyFy Channel and still enjoyed them. Yes, Reb Brown can be wooden at times, but I totally buy him as Captain America. It's good fun! Don't take it so seriously and you'll enjoy it!

I have seen these when they first appeared on TV in 1978 and 1979. It's too bad there wasn't more of an effort and respect for the character back then. It could have been just as good as the Incredible Hulk series in 1978-1982. I have to laugh at the quality of the writing back then and how it got past the executives at CBS. The entire concept was not as well thought out. If you are a collector and can't pass up anything with Captain America's name;you'll be let down by these two movies. Wait for the new Captain America Movie (2011) from this year and purchase that terrific film. - Tv Series'

Yoga Mats - yoga towel, hot yoga

I love hot yoga and have been hooked for a while now, bought this but the only problem is that I stole my wife's yoga mat (purple) and I failed to notice that this towel is purple too, so yeah, not feelin' too "manly" rolling my purple mat and towel down! This wicks up the sweat instantly and "grips" to the mat very well. outstanding purchase!!! Absorbent, Slip Resistant Microfiber 68" X 24" Lotus Yoga Towel

buy this for whatever reason you want, but don't buy it for slip resistance. It moves, it wrinkles, it SLIPS. Can't recommend at all. I am now ordering another towel based on what people in my studio are using. Twice the price, but if it does the job, I suppose it's worth it. This is now relegated to other purposes.

I do hot yoga atleast 3 times a week, maybe 4, and pilates 5 times a week. Sure, this towel fits on the mat, but it doesn't stay put, and it wrinkles. It doesn't cling, it does slip, it is not non slip. I did use a yogitoes mat today, and used this mat also, to compare the two. Let me just say, this towel does collect sweat, but it slides all over the place. Not so fun in a 95 degrees room, doing downward dog, and suddenly you have the wrinkled towel between your feet. It fits the whole mat, but it's not so great. It wrinkles and it goes everywhere. I'll use this, but I'm going to get the higher priced Yogitoes mat. So, for the last two days, this towel has stayed folded up behind my mat, and is used when I wipe off, cause it's not non slip.I'm not returning it, cause I need the spare, it is thin, it rolls up with my mat, and rolls into my bag without any bulk.

Also,I've washed it twice, and I think it looks like it's starting to pill. But i'm keeping it cause of it's non bulky fabric, and I can use it when I do pilates only. - Hot Yoga - Yoga - Yoga Accessories - Yoga Towel'

Bicycle Helmet - cycling, bike safety

I am writing this review based up on my real life experience on 3/14/10. My husband is a lifelong cyclist. Together we have worn bike helmets our entire adult lives. Friends joked about how we looked wearing our helmets in the past. They don't joke anymore. My husband was riding solo at about 18-20 MPH and became startled by an unleashed dog that appeared out of nowhere. Expecting to be nipped at the heel, the dog instead crashed into the front bicycle wheel, sending him over the handlebars onto a paved street. His 1 year old Schwinn Thrasher helmet took the fist impact, destroying itself in order to save his skull and brain. Reconstructive orthopedic surgery was required for his shattered left collarbone. He is still healing - but he is able share his experience with others today. I spent a mere $20 bucks at a discount store. The Schwinn Thrasher helmet saved my husband's life. Thank you Schwinn. Schwinn Thrasher Adult Micro Bicycle Helmet (Adult)

OK. Let's just all agree that bicycle helmets are ugly and that it's likely that you'll feel ridiculous wearing one. Get over it! These days with increasing numbers of distracted drivers, you'd be crazy not to wear a helmet. That being said, the Schwinn Thrasher Helmet is a great choice. It is comfortable, adjustable and was even able to fit my giant head. It is sculpted to allow ample air flow to keep your head cool and the basic black/charcoal design keeps the look simple and clean. I don't find the plastic visor to be of much use, but it can detached if necessary.

As a bonus, it is a "Best Buy" from Consumer Reports.

If you ride a bike don't expect a baseball cap to protect you. You need a helmet and the Schwinn Thrasher Helmet is a good choice at a great price.

While this helmet is not the fanciest around, it does do the job it is supposed to. I use this riding my bike early in the morning and so far so good. I have a large head, so finding a helmet to fit me is rather difficult. This one has an adjustable strap in the back that can fit a large range of heads (mine is adjusted to the largest size). I looked at helmets that were around $80 before finding this one, and I am glad that I chose the Schwinn Thrasher.

Happy Riding!

I bought this helmet after reading the very convincing top review about how it saved someone's life. Looking a little dorky is a small price to pay for that protection. Overall I'm pleased with this helmet. For the price it offers quite a bit. Keep in mind when you read my 'cons' that this helmet is regularly around twenty bucks.

Pros:

1) Light design--appears insubstantial actually, but that is the way it's made. It's created to break up on impact, thus absorbing the blow that your head would have taken.

2) Fits very well and is super comfortable to wear. I really like the strap design, as well as the adjustment knob inside the helmet that controls the harness width to accommodate many different sized heads.

3) Aesthetics are pretty good, especially with the visor. For an inexpensive helmet, I'm pretty impressed. No one looks awesome in a bike helmet, but at least it doesn't look too dorky.

4) Is not so amazing looking that it is a thief magnet.

Cons:

1) The plastic exterior shell is not that well affixed to the foam. It floats around a little bit, and looks like it may develop problems after years of use.

2) The visor attaches to the helmet using plastic pins that will eventually break off. It also doesn't stay in place as well as I would like. I simply glued mine in place since I never plan to ride without it anyway.

3) The interior of the helmet has thin, felt pads that are connected to the foam using small circles of Velcro. They are a tad too small, and so the pads shift around more than I would like. I can't glue these in place, because ideally you want to pull them out and wash them once in a while. My solution: add my own sticky-sided velcro to bolster what's already there. This works great.

Conclusions:

For the price, you'd be hard pressed to find a better helmet. Also, based on other reviews, a few of which talk about the product actually being tested in a real life crash, it appears to work well. It's a decent looking helmet, and although I wish it did have a slightly higher build quality, it's still a good value.

This is a great helmet. It fits well (6'3" 200 pound male). The adjustment wheel works perfectly and is well made. There is a lot of cooling airflow when you are out riding and the visor blocks the sun quite well. I was surprised with the build quality given the price and it even looks good on top of it all! (In fact it's good enough/stylish enough to steal apparently and I'm back for my second helmet. If someone wants to steal this helmet and save their thief head I will happily purchase more and pass them around to anyone who wants one.) Thanks Schwinn!

I bought this after the Giro didn't fit my head. This is nowhere as good of a quality as the Giro but if you wear the largest hats/caps and even then your head barely fits, then this is for you and the Giro is not.

I bought my bike at a time when I wanted to start getting out and exercising more. Being on a very limited budget, I sprang for the very best bike I could at the time (maybe even over-extended my budget just a bit). This left me with very little $$ left for accessories, and as everyone will tell you, a helmet is the most important thing you need when you go riding.

This helmet is not flashy and doesn't have any big exclusive brand name, but it's a quality piece from a reputable company. It fits well and offers adjustments for various size heads. I also personally like the color and carbon fiber finish.

About the only benefit of buying those other helmets that cost upwards of 2 or 3 times the $20 cost of this one is that they may look better and may be slightly smaller. But that's about it - this helmet is comfy, adjustable, and has all the safety certification included with it. Even the absorbent cushioning pads that line the inside of the helmet are attached with velcro for easy removal/washing.

If you're really strapped for cash and need a quality helmet, I'd highly recommend this one. I don't regret buying mines, and even though I've recovered from the initial outlay of my bike purchase and am now able to spring for a more expensive helmet, I still use this one and don't regret buying it. - Bike Safety - Bicycle Helmet - Cycling - Helmet'

Shedding Tools - shedding tools, razor blade

In order to cut the fur on the sensitive parts (ear, nose, face and paw) of our dog, I have been trying to find one of these ball-tipped scissors for ages. I have recently bought TINY TRIM and was already satisfied after receiving it from SCAREDY CUT/Amazon. I initially left a review of 4 out of 5 stars (which for me means VERY GOOD) with a comment that I didn't see the serration. I was surprised to receive a timely email feedback from SCAREDY CUT, which included a detailed description for me to see where the serration of the TINY TRIM is as well as option to replace or refund. I was not expecting the feedback because I did not leave a low rating. I very much appreciate the after sale service of SCAREDY CUT as this experience proved that the seller (1) knows their product well, (2) takes care of its customer even if they already received a high rating, and (3) a great seller brings the best out of the product it sells. Of course, I did not request for a replacement or refund as I was already very satisfied with the product and the seller. If I can only change the initial rating of 4 to 5 stars. TINY TRIM ball tipped small pet grooming scissor 4.5" EAR NOSE FACE PAW

I bought this sissor to trim the tear stained fur around my puppy's eyes. It is great. Small enough to maneuver easily. Sharp enough to do the job quickly. Safe enough not to endanger the puppy's eyes. Highly recommend this product.

Before I used the Tiny Trimmers on my poodle, Chip, I used them to cut my bangs. They worked better than my husbands hair trimming scissors. It is much easier cutting around Chips face with these. I am not so worried about poking him in the eyes with these. I recommended these to friends and family.

I think these scissors are FANTASTIC! I have a maltipoo and enjoy trimming her fur when she is chewing on her toys and not really paying attention hehe. I feel safe using them because they are nice and small but are super sharp so I can quickly get her fur. I highly recommend this product for small dogs!

This item has become indispensable in my grooming business to trim sensitive areas like feet and faces. They're quiet, so they don't scare pets as much, so pets don't move as much -- meaning less chance for injury. They're comfortable in the hands and the sharp blades means I don't have to fight with fur -- I get clean cuts every time. Obviously, the main attraction of the Tiny Trim is the rounded edge, I can't praise this innovation enough. Pointed scissors on the face are just too dangerous as one wrong move could easily injure an eye or nose. I've tossed all of my other face trimmers. Of course, great care is still required, but there is still a less chance to hurt a pet with these and groomers/owners should take advantage of it.

The scissors are supposed to be SERRATED so that the fur stays between the blades. This pair is serrated on the inner edge, much finer than the photo shows on Amazon. The fur pulls out of the blades in spite of the miniscule serration: both the fine fur neinside the ear, and the thick fur of the paws.

I am keeping the scissors anyway because of the blunt tip, and the covered thumb and finger holes. It is comfortable and strong. It cuts much more fur at one time than my cuticle scissors. The tip can't hurt the dog.

Another negative is that it makes a louder sound than my cuticle scissors when cutting. My dogs pull away quickly and won't let me use it but once. So I come back again and again. Oh well. I'll just continue trying and eventually they may get used to it. All scissors make noise, not just this one.

I can't use electric ear and paw trimmers on them either. Treats don't help.

update 8.3.10

The supplier, Scaredy Cut, sent another pair of scissors after having read the above review. He was concerned that the first pair was defective. That was really responsive.

He mentioned in a letter that the serrated edge makes the scissors noisier.

I am using the scissors to trim the belly fur of my Goldens. They get hot spots easily. By trimming the fur close to the skin, they scratch less. This pair of small scissors is better for this job than my regular scissors. Much sharper, and smaller. Neither dog pulls away. I can't use an electric trimmer because of the noise.

Trimming the fur from under the paws and between the "toes" is easy with this scissors.

As for ear fur trimming, I am trying to desensitize my Goldens by opening and closing the scissors near their ears, but without cutting anything.

I would increase the rate to 4 stars, but I can't find a way to do that!

I am so glad Amazon located these and started selling them again. I bought my first one direct from the company after buying their Scaredy Cut product and liking the quality of that so much. These are great little scissors. Sharp, quiet and a safe rounded tip. I am buying 2 more as backups. They do seem to get a grip on the fur so it cuts the fur straight. Other scissors seem to push the fur forward and when you do make a cut the fur cuts at an angle. These worked great on the fur between the toe pads and cut it straight on the first cut. The serrated part is very small to see, but it is there and it makes the difference. The screw is adjustable to tighten the tension but mine arrived in perfect working order so I haven't adjusted that at all.

The scissors are perfect. They are sharp but safe, easy to grip, and small enough to trim sensitive areas on my little Maltese. I've been using them more than I thought I would. They are quiet and don't upset my little guy at all.

I'm a 4th year veterinary student and I just adopted a white teacup poodle with bilateral radius/ulna fractures- aka both front legs broken. She had horrible tear stains when I first saw her, as well as crazy fraggle-rock facial hair. I wanted a pair of scissors that would cut well and were safe to use around her eyes. I LOVE these scissors. I used them on her face to clean her up, and they cut very well even at the tips. I then started using them to trim her toe hair. It worked so well, I'm using the scissors on my long-haired chihuahua too. I highly recommend these scissors for the occasional trim that is needed to keep our pups beautiful! ;0) I hope to get the Scaredy Cut Silent trimmer soon...
