Iphone Headset Adapter - iphone, headset
The product description is somewhat contradictory, so just to be clear this converts the 3.5mm headphone jack found on many newer multimedia phones (i.e. iPhone) and allows you to plug in a standard 2.5mm wired earpiece or headset. I'm using it to connect an LG Dare with a simple Plantronics earpiece / boom microphone and it works fine.
While this is one of the pricier 2.5 to 3.5 adaptors on Amazon, it's unclear how many perform the same function as this one. I just chose this one because other reviewers had luck converting in the direction I needed. Be aware that the wire between connecting the two ends is rather thin and looks like it could fray with extended use. Otherwise, it's a solid buy.
*UPDATE*: I purchased a second one of these adapters in April 2010 and something has changed. The new one does not with my LG Dare and wired headset. Audio from the phone comes out, but the microphone on the headset no longer works. 3.5mm MALE TO 2.5mm FEMALE STEREO HEADPHONE ADAPTER FOR IPHONE / BLACK
The iPhone headset is pretty good for listening to music, but as a telephone headset it leaves much to be desired. I kept thinking, "if only there was a way to use my old Motorola-compatible headset with my iPhone..."
That's exactly what this adapter lets you do. I plugged my headset into the adapter, plugged the adapter into the iPhone, and the rest is hands-free history.
It was easily worth the price to be able to use a headset with a boom microphone-- everyone I talk to thanks me.
I looked and looked for this adapter and finally found it here on Amazon. It has been working great for my BlackBerry Curve. It has allowed me to use 2.5mm jack headsets with the BlackBerry which has a 3.5mm jack. Works great !
Doesn't work with my LG Chocolate Touch and Plantronics stereo headset. Adapter is 3 ring, as it is supposed to be (some reviewers say they received 2 ring), however it still doesn't work.
Audio out of right ear only, and mic doesn't work.
Bought "Blackberry Stereo Headset Adapter 3.5mm Male to 2.5mm Female (HDW-15306-002)" here on Amazon, and THAT one works beautifully.
Hope this helps someone!
Bought it to connect my Sony MDR-EX71 headset to my new iPhone. Does not work. I get audio in the right ear but nothing in the left and the mic doesn't work. I tried two other generic headsets with 2.5mm 3-ring plugs and they didn't work either. This suggests the adapter doesn't work with iPhone 3G.
I ordered this adapter so that my old handsfree boom mic with 2.5 mm connection would work with my new phone that has a 3.5 mm plug. I went to Radio Shack and bought an adapter that I thought would work. After using that adapter I found that the ear piece worked, but the mic did not. After some research I found out that in order for the mic to work the 3.5 mm male piece needs to have 3 rings on it. I saw this pic and it clearly has 3 rings on it so I ordered it. Just got it in the mail today and it only had 2 rings on it and does not work. I have the same issue where the ear piece works, but the mic does not. DO NOT ORDER this as they totally lie about what you are getting.
I ordered this item, as it looks from the picture, for my cell headset. The one in the picture has 3 rings and 4 contacts jack, but the one that I received has only 2 rings and 3 contacts jack. They should change the picture in the advertisement so the customers do not get confused by it.
I just received and tested that this adapter successfully connects my iPhone 3GS to a standard wired 2.5 mm telephone headset with microphone and mono earphone. I also use this same headset with my home cordless phones and my mobile phones that have 2.5 mm jacks. As I've only just received the adapter, I cannot speak to durability.
I tried this adapter for my LG Chocolate phone (3.5 mm jack)/Plantronics headset (2.5 mm). Even with the phone set at max volume the sound level in my headset is barely audible. Not all cables are alike; experiment with different models. What ended up working best for my headset/phone is the Blackberry hands free cable, purchased at Verizon wireless store. More money ($12) but excellent performance. - Iphone - Iphone Headset Adapter - Headset Adapter - Headset'
