I had previously bought a set of hoists, but they didn't raise the kayaks high enough in my metal shed. The wall cradles solved the problem. I had to buy new self-tapping screws since they are mounted to hollow metal studs. I should point out that these Cradles are not designed for attachment to metal studs. They are designed for wood studs. However, you might want to check the length of the screws provided to see if they are long enough if you have sheet rock. Also you might want to check to see if your studs are wide enough for the holes in the bottom plates. You could angle the screws inward though. That's why I'm giving this a 4 star rating. This Kayak cradle is well built and installed pretty easily. My yak is a 11 foot bass pro fishing model so it was a little difficult to find the exact location for the cradles so that the yak didn't tip out. My only complaint is that the yak rests aganinst the tube caps. They are a really hard plastic instead of rubber so the scratched the yak. I went to the hardware store and purchased some softer caps.
I finally got my kayak up off the ground with these hooks. They do a great job, foam coverings not only prevent scratching to your kayak but also prevent it from slipping around. It comes with several screws to mount to a wall stud, plenty long enough to get through the sheet rock in my garage and hold my Necky. Be sure you have the right tools, just a screwdriver and stud finder is all I needed.
My wife and I each have a kayak that we store in our garage with pully systems that suspend them from the ceiling. While this storage technique works great over the winter, it is not very efficient in using the kayaks on a day to day basis. We decided to buy the cradles so that it was easier to access the kayaks when we wanted to use them on a regular basis. We couldn't be happier with how they have worked out. Very happy with quality of product and padding is pretty decent. We installed them on our wood fence (very easy installation) in our back yard and now any time we want to hit the lake its as easy as lifting them out of the cradles and walking down to the water. Very convienant! Not to mention that they also look pretty cool as though they are now on display. :)
I own four kayaks, which have completely taken over my two car garage. I bought one pair of cradles to try before committing to four of these babies because I was worried they might not fit my kayaks. They fit my Dagger Catalyst 13.0 and Wilderness Systems Pamlico 120 perfectly, and judging by the design, I would expect them to fit any kayak. I will be purchasing more to put the rest of my kayaks on the wall. They are easy to install once you find your wall studs. The bottom screws do have to be angled inward to catch the stud, which detracts from the otherwise tidy appearance of the cradles. My garage looks great with the kayaks neatly, if not decoratively, stowed on the wall. The only thing I hate is the price! Seems awfully steep for this simple of a design, but there really isn't a better option on the market.
purchased two sets of the wall cradles for my kayak and my wife's. Cradles were easy to install and provide great support for the boats. Replaces two other methods I was using to store the kayaks and freed up space on the side of the shed. Would recommend them for anyone looking for a storage solution.
Great product and easy to install. I have a narrow garage and this system allows me to not only store my kayak, but also get my car in the garage. I gave it four stars because I think it needs better quality hardware. Which I replaced at that hardware store.
everything was great, it came on time, the price was right. Until I opened the box and found that it came with no lag bolts at all, nothing. I just got the J-shaped cradles and directions, which say "using the lag bolts provided".... luckily i have bolts at work to do this otherwise I would have to run to the hardware store. Thought of the option of writing to the company about sending some bolts, but it would just be a waste of time.... plus make sure you have a decent stud finder and level :) In the end, I still like the cradle mounts just wished I didnt have to run somewhere to get the rest of it done. - Kayak Rack - Kayak Storage - J-rack'
