Keyless Lock - electronic lock, keyless deadbolt
I paid $67. for this lock through Amazon. This is about half of the original cost. It is a very good buy for a keyless lock. I used the lock on an outside door for an outside building with a small overhang over the door. The overhang prevents direct exposure of the lock to ice, snow and rain.
It has been a pleasure to have this lock as my sons would constantly misplace the keys for the old lock. This alone made the lock well worth purchasing. However, make sure that you use very good , name brand, and fresh batteries with this lock. Cheaper batteries will cause the lock to not work very well when it is very cold outside, as it has been in the Northeast this winter. The batteries are relatively easy to change and hopefully will last for, at least, months at a time. Back-up keys are also provided if the batteries fail unexpectedly.
Be aware that this lock does not have a feature of more expensive keyless locks. More expensive locks have a switch so that it will not automatically re-lock itself on the outside once the door is opened. This lock always re-locks itself on the outside. I live with it because of the cheaper cost. Besides, this can be a benefit for people that forget to lock a door.
It has worked well for the last month since I installed very good batteries. As I had mentioned before, it is also operating perfectly under brutal conditions this winter. This lock is a cheaper version of a much more expensive, name brand, keyless lock that I had bought for my house. But for the money, the pleasure of a keyless lock, and the ease of installation, I feel that it is a very good buy from Amazon. Electronic Keyless Door Lock Set - Satin Nickel (*For Right Hand Doors Only), #415R
This product solved many problems in our home. Let me explain. My wife and I are foster parents and one of the children placed in our home had a problem with "sticky fingers" so we decided we needed to keep our room locked at all times. With the standard door lock for interior doors that can be picked with a hanger, this was a huge pain as we were always loosing the "key" and we also found out our child knew how to pick the lock by themselves. So knowing that we needed a better lock that didn't require a key, we decided to purchase this electronic door lock.
The handle and lock has a really nice polished nickel look that appears to be really expensive. Installation was a breeze in my existing door with no modifications to my door necessary (and I'm no handy man). The door has a few nice features like after 3 wrong codes are entered, it does not take any codes for 60 seconds. This is great for stopping kids who think that if they try to guess the code enough times they will get it to open. Also, it lets you set 2 different codes between 3 and 8 digits long so my wife and I could each have our own code (which confused the kids who tried to look over our shoulder when we went in our room). Setting or changing the code is really easy as well and only requires the removal of one screw on the panel on the inside of the door. Last, the lock comes with a key in case the code is forgotten or the batteries die. In the picture you can see a small cut out on the handle - the key has a magnet on the end and when you put the key on the cover it pulls it off and exposes the key slot.
So anyway, with this lock, we close our bedroom door closed behind us every time we leave our room and know that our stuff is safe. And when we want to go back inside, we don't have to worry about having a key with us but just enter our code and walk on in. It has made life a lot easier in our hectic home.
We bought this to restrict customer access from employee-only areas in a pizza delivery shop. We have a high traffic door from lobby to kitchen used frequently by our delivery drivers that was either (a) always being left unlocked or (b) employees were constantly having to stop what they were doing to open it for an authorized entrant. This keypad installed easily, Is attractive, and appears to be well made and equal to the commercial grade hardware that it replaced. Works like a charm and now we don't have to worry about employees leaving the door unlocked and having our security breached. I was pleasantly surprised by the illuminated keypad which lights up at first touch. Another nice feature is the ability to have two active combinations so that a temporary one can be given to a contractor or delivery person without changing the main one the employees know and routinely use. We'll now see if it stands the test of time (it's only been in for a week), but the initial impressions are all good. - Keyless Deadbolt - Electronic Lock - Doorknobs - Door Hardware'
