Great - great

Pro:

This stylus is generally well-suited for portability in that it is very small. Its size, surprisingly, leaves it quite usable - for the things that it is good at. (More on that below.) In use, it feels quite velvety smooth. I had no trouble hitting any given part of my iPhone screen with at least a little more accuracy than I would with my finger.

Con:

First, the lanyard - this appears to be designed to keep the stylus with the phone by plugging into the headphone jack. My wife, who found this stylus in her Christmas stocking, uses headphones so often that this is not an acceptable trade-off for her, and without another obvious place to keep the stylus, she has to leave it at home or risk losing it.

The big problem is this: what problem does this solve? Most apps are designed to work well with just fingertip control, and to me it isn't worth carrying this thing around for few apps that demand more precision. One app that I find it very helpful with, however, is Brushes, a painting program that always frustrates me when I try to use it with a naked finger. The extra control of the stylus is very welcome there; but again, I'd only be able to use it at home.

If you have a similar sketch program, or can think of another use, it's a quality product and worth buying. Otherwise...it's a nice tchotchke, fit for giving away at conferences if you can get your logo on it. elago Mini Stylus Pen for iPhone 4/3GS/3G, iPad and iPod Touch, AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4, Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab

Great stylus. bought it for my wife, since she has long nails it was hard for her to use the touch screen. she loves the pen, and she can't loose it because it attaches to the headphone jack.Very good quality, front part is made of durable rubber, does not fall apart or change shape like foam. Verizon sales person told her she couldn't use any stylus with the iphone 4. she would have to get use to using it with long nails. He was wrong, and I decided to look it up online. I'm glad I found this on Amazon. My wife loves her iphone 4, and with this it makes it even better. I would recommend it to everyone who can't use their fingers or doesn't want to leave finger prints on their screen.

This is an excellent stylus for use on the iPhone. The only down side with this particular model is that it is a lttle too small for my needs. I prefer the feel of a stylus that more closely resembles the feel of a full size pen or paint brush, that I get from my "Elago Stylus Pen with Clip", that I purchased to use on all of my more comoplex projects that I may be working on. However, because of its size and convenience, I use this mini model on a daily basis for all of the quick miscellaneous tasks that come up during the day, because it stays conveniently attached to my iPhone with the built in landyard.

I love this litttle thing. Unfortunately, I (and the friends I give it to) keep losing it. The little pring thingies develop plastic fatigue and break off, resulting in lack of friction keeping it in the slot.

My wife was having real problems making her iPhone work with her fingers. I think the skin was too dry. This lets her do texting and playing games on her phone fun. I will be buying more for my friends that have trouble with just their fingers working their iPhones. The little string that keeps it with the phone is great!

I only had it for a few days, it got very annoying dangling around on the top of the iPad.

I never really liked it any way, it has a big fat tip on it which is just as useless as using you finger tip.

Although the product itself is well made, the lanyard on the top is attached very very good, the tip is attached very good, it fits okay using in my fingers but REMEBER you use more like a finger and not a stylus or pen.

But then I lost the product, problems solved. :o) And I don't like it enough to by another one.

This tiny stylus is so much easier to type with on an Iphone than using your fingers! My fingers are not large but still I was mistyping everything. It connects into the headphone jack so you won't loose it.

It is great. - Great'

Kids Google - swimming goggles, swimming

My son swims year round and goes through goggles like crazy. I have found these to stand up the strain that he puts them through much better than others. If only they had a homing beacon to help you find them when he loses them. Speedo Junior Vanquisher Swim Goggle (Blue)

I ordered these for myslef, because adult size is too big. The eye pieces on these fit ok, but the straps have barely enough play. Also they fog up miserably, from the very first use. I did like that they csame in clear however. And the price is good.

I like these goggles. From the photo it shows the adjuster button on the back. The ones we received did not have that adjuster button, only the traditional strap adjustment. The button is so much easier to use and that is why I purchased. Would have been a 5 if they came as shown.

My daughter only wears the junior vanquishers for competitve swimming. We purchase these in multiples. She did have a pair snap at the nose piece while on the blocks, but that is why you have spares. (The pair that broke made it through practices and meets the duration of short course and half of long course. They were due to break.) We do replace the head strap with a bungie that we get from a different supplier. My daughter likes the other strap so she can tighten right at the blocks much easier.

These are the only goggles my son wears-- and therefore the only goggles I buy now! He's in the pool 4-5 days per week. They fit his face well and don't leak, and they are reasonably priced/comparable to the swimming retailer sites.

My son is tough on goggles and really needs them to perform. These goggles keep up with him through many practices and meets. They seal around his eyes well and resist fogging. We are on his second pair only because they get scratched in the bottom of his swim bag. The replaceable bridge pieces (included) and straps (not included) help extend the life of the goggles. The only reason it does not get a a full 5 stars is because they do get scratched fairly easily. - Speedo Goggles - Swimming - Goggles - Swimming Goggles'

Yoga Mat

Having heard about how awesome Manduka mats are from all sorts of sources, I was super psyched to find this light, portable version of the big, honking Mat Pro. Mine arrived today, and I promptly took it to my hot yoga class. I am slightly underwhelmed by the product, I have to be honest. I have compiled a list of pros and cons for the mat, and thus shareth them with you now...

Pros:

-Folds up crazy small (seriously, it's like a light sweater)

-Light weight

-Same "stickiness" as other Manduka mats, so it's got good grip

Cons:

-It's REALLY thin. When I read other reviews taking about how thin the mat was, I was like "Psh. It can't be THAT thin. What wusses!" No, but seriously, it's 1-2 mm thick. So, basically, you're doing yoga on a sticky floor. This would be a terrible choice for pilates, or if you have joints in need of cushion.

-At least in my vinyasa flow class, this mat did not grip to the floor well. I had to readjust it 4 times in 30 minutes, to keep from running into my neighbor's mat. Also, since it's not all that grippy with the floor, when in down dog (or any position that puts stretching stress on the mat), the mat bunched up around my hands and feet. Bummer!

In conclusion... This is a good option (I guess) for people who travel a lot, or who have to take public transit to their yoga classes... but if you can help it, go with one of their other, sturdier, thicker mats.

Hope this helps! Manduka Standard Superlite Yoga Mat, Acai

I swear by my Manduka pro and have recommended it time and again to my students, so I was excited to try the Manduka travel mat, and chagrined at how disappointed I was. It is just too light and bunches up underfoot, offering pretty much the same non-support as the cheapest mats out there. But you will pay a lot more for it.

I like it. It's sticky and I appreciate that it is non-toxic, but... it it is heavier than the Gaiam one that I saw at REI and smells a little funny. (My full size Manduka also smelled funny at first, so maybe this will go away if I air it out.)

To be honest if I saw both of them in a store I probably would have bought the Gaiam but it's not worth sending it back.

As a yoga teacher who travels for a living, I have paid my fair share of "overage fees" at airports due to the bulk and weight of my yoga mat amongst other things. FINALLY, Manduka has developed an incredibly "lean" mat that actually folds up just like a sweatshirt, taking up the same amount of space. and weighing as much as my hiking shoes. Even better, when the mat "unfolds" it has no creases and never loses its grip! GENIUS! Now when I teach my workshops and trainings, I can travel with less "baggage," and still have everything I need for practice!

I travel A LOT and thought this would be great-- I thought I could lay it on top of another mat, taking advantage of cushioning without having to carry it around. But this thing, woo, it was useless. It was so thin and flimsy, it stuck to my foot, bunched up at every movement, and was totally un-useable. Usually, I love Manduka products (I LOVE the ProLite and would bring it everywhere if it weren't for luggage limits) but this (and the EcoLite) was really a downer.

I bought this mat because I commute via bicycle to the studio where I work and needed a lighter and smaller alternative to my regular mat. That being said I did expect the mat to be thin and really more of an extra layer of grip than a cushy landing pad. I was not prepared for the incredibly thin surface this mat is. To be fair I AM a bony person, but I should not walk away from a class with deep tissue bruises on my hips and knees. The surface is very grippy, I like the orange peel texture. I read other reviews that complained of an odor but I felt the natural rubber smell was much more conducive to a class than the toxic smell most other mats have. I am a little concerned with the stability of this product over time because i am already noticing some wear lines where I had folded it to fit into a bag.

Overall I won't be returning the product because I need a travel mat and this one is passable. I will be shopping around before I purchase another or make a recommendation to my friends.

A great travel mat if your of the none super sweaty yoga styles (if you sweat a lot you can probably just use a towel). I like to use it to throw over studio provided mats. So far it appears durable, no visible flakage. Great for my needs. Just an FYI, probably couldn't fold it down to fit in a purse, unless the purse is large but would work in a suitcase.

I just purchased because I want to continue practicing my yaga when I travel. It is a really sticky mat and its quality is beyond I could explain. I just use it on the carpet and it is enough to give me some cushion that I will not hurt my knees when doing some poses. Love it!

I love this yoga mat. I fly over 100,000 miles a year, and had been looking for something that travels well. By that I mean it must fit into my carry-on regime. I've had a great inflatable zafu for some time, but the right mat had been elusive.Enter the Manduka. It is the only compromise I've found that's acceptable. It packs really well: I fold it into my roll-aboard easily with my other things. You're never going to get that full-cushion experience and still be super-mobile. Accept that. I haven't given up my regular mat when at home and around town.I have no problem with the padding when placed on concrete for yoga. I also meditate, though, and sitting on the mat over concrete or bricks is definitely when I wish I had more underneath. But it is surprising how often you can find better alternative surfaces while traveling. You adapt! The rubber smell, for me, went away after a couple of months. It never bothered me.

I've had this mat for over 6 months and use it 3-4x/week. It's my main yoga mat and I really like it. As someone whose daily commute requires me to go across town and back (using a combination of walking, buses and trains), this mat is perfect. I shove it in my backpack with my yoga clothes and am good to go. I can't imagine dragging a regular, cumbersome yoga mat (along with all the other stuff I carry) all over town, every day. If you drive everywhere, then this mat probably isn't even necessary.

I don't have any problems with it scrunching, and love that's it's super-tacky. If I'm on my knee in a pose, I'll sometimes just put a blanket (which all yoga studios seem to have) under my knee.

One thing to keep in mind about this mat is that it actually folds. There are other travel mats that are thin or light, but you still need to roll them up and carry them somehow. The fact that this mat folds and can be put in a backpack is the best thing about it.

I definitely plan on buying this mat again once my current one wears out :)'

Wireless Router - belkin, routers

Just bought this and it seems great so far. Easy to set up, runs cooler then some other routers.

The manual doesn't seem to have much advance info.

Too bad none of my wireless adapters support the 5 Ghz band the dual band adapters seem to be common with laptops though.

Update:

I went out and bought a pci dual band wireless adapter (Linksys WMP600N) with 2 external antennas

My computer is less then 30 feet away in another room from the router and I only get 1 bar in the 5Ghz band

Searched online and it seems that 5Ghz cannot pass through walls or other obstructions as well as the 2.4Ghz band Belkin N600 Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router (Latest Generation)

By default this equipment is not setup to be a Hotspot (Access Point) which is expected. I found it really easy to call technical support and we converted this to an access point in about two clicks. This is the best wireless system I have had the experience of using. The manual does not go into this setting but it is my understanding that all new routers can work as an access point. This item is a must buy for any home network even if you are only needing another access point in your house. Do not forget to change the band. I have an app on my droid that tells me what other wireless routers are set to. I suggest choosing 7. The best way is to talk with tech support if you want to change this equipment to an access point. Their support staff is great.

I've been through all of it. I've tried Netgear, Linksys, and Belkin. I have had a lot of promblems finding a good, affordable router. I bought this because my netgear router quit. The netgear router was $80, and this retails less than that, so I wasn't looking for an upgrade. I just wanted to get another router, because my other one is dead. After seeing many positive reviews here on amazon.com, I decided to try this one out. I'm a computer genius, so I look at things from a beginner point of veiw when I review things. Setting this up is NOT hard at all. The router is automaticly configured, yes, seriously it is. It already has a password assigned to it, and it is on this handy card that you can slip in a holder under your router! Obviosly, I changed the password to fit my needs, but this is awesome if you've never owned a router before! I setup my router using the setup discs (some cool apps by the way) and it is so simple. There is only the power button on the router, I really like this. The router is small, but very powerful. The dualbands, are Okay, the same as my other router. I don't use them though since I'm not having any issues. The router range is the best! I can go anywhere on my propery and use the internet, unlike my other router where I was limited to my house. This was so easy to setup, and I have not had any issues! It feels great not having to deal with constant maitnence. Just buy it, you'll love it!

I used to have an old T-LINK router. Had it for about 3 years and it started to fail. I changed it to this Belkin and no problems at all. The software that comes with helps a lot and the dual band helps my Mac to avoid interference with other wireless stuff.

I am not an IT guy or someone that is all day on the computer. And this router was soooo easy to install and to set up. It just gave me a little trouble changing the network name and pass that came with the router. And that is because I didn't see it was on the page. I highly recommend this router. I am very happy and for the price there is nothing else better. - Routers - Belkin - Usb Port'

Casual Socks - socks, izod

I agree with the previous reviewer: these are quite thick for "crew" socks. They are as thick as sport socks. Nevertheless, they are true to size and good quality. Fast shipping. Great colors. Great under jeans. IZOD Men's 3-Pack Multi-Color Casual Cotton Crew Sock 3 Pack, Earth (Brown/Green/Beige), One size

I like these socks. They feel a little thicker than the normal cheap sock. They are also fairly soft. I've had them for several months now and they are holding up well. I haven't used the dryer on them. I just wash them and hang them up to dry.

This is a nice set of brown socks for fall/winter. I took off one star because 2 of 3 of these sets are suprisingly tight on the top. That makes me concerned that it isn't elastic enough to last.

Other than that these are very comfortable socks, a hard-to-find 3-pack of browns for a reasonable price, and they helped keep me warm over the last couple of weeks of cold winter weather in Cleveland. I will probably get another set of these next Fall if they're still holding up.

I was tired of buying socks and having them wear out in six to eight months. I decided to buy these and am glad I did. They are comfortable, they fit well. The only negative I can think of is that I find they slip to the side when I am walking around the house and I have to fix them when I sit down. I do think they are worth the money spent. - Socks - Izod - Warm Socks'

American Decline - adventure, philosophy

First I'd like to address a couple of criticisms that I read here that this book is rather superficial and doesn't get into Zen concepts in depth. That's true, this book is really only an intro to Zen--if you're already knowledgeable then this book will probably be too basic. However, for the beginner there is no better place to start, and as someone else here observed, the quotes from Bruce Lee are almost worth the price of the book by themselves.Joe Hyams started his karate training back in 1952 with Ed Parker--a full ten years or more before the craze got started in America. He had the opportunity to train with such greats as Bruce Lee, Bong Soo Han, Ed Parker, and Jim Lau from the very beginning. Joe encountered many trials and tribulations, frustrations, and disappointments during his training, but he never gave up. One reason is he often had the opportunity to discuss his problems with the many great teachers he trained under, and they often offered their wisdom and insights to help him through the difficult times. He took that wealth of personal experience and knowledge and put it all into this little book.Hyams gives a very clear, concise, and easy to understand introduction to Zen in the martial arts. The discussions are often illustrated and liberally peppered with fun anecdotes from his personal experiences with different masters, making this almost a personal journey through the dojos and minds of some of the most famous martial artists of our time. Hyams writes very well (he was a famous Hollywood screenwriter) and so rather than another dry, obscure, Zen philosophy tome, the book sounds more like an intimate conversation with a friend over a glass of wine and dinner. It sounds like he's personally talking right to you.Hyams touches on so many concepts that I won't try to discuss them much here. But I will mention probably the most important one--which is persistence. Hyams points out that it often isn't the most talented and gifted student that achieves the most in the martial arts--since they often quit the first time they encounter a serious difficulty--since they're so used to everything coming so easy. Rather, it's the person who often has very little going for him physically, and has the patience and perseverance to stick it through to the end.I'll mention just one other important principle. This relates to the Zen idea of living in the moment, especially when training, but also in everything else one does in life. Don't allow other concerns, however pressing or important, to weigh on your mind and distract you when you're training. Concentrate on living in the present moment and you'll make the most of your training--and of all the other activities in your life. Someone who's always worried about their other concerns can't truly live in the present, and therefore will never truly enjoy or make the most of whatever activity they're engaged in. Part of their mind is always somewhere else. Strive to always live in the now, in the present moment.Interestingly enough, this idea has been confirmed by modern psychological research. If you have concerns that worry you, don't allow them to bother you to the point where you're thinking about them all the time. The best way to deal with this, it's been found, is to set aside some time each day--they recommend 10, 15, or 20 minutes at most--where, if you need to--go ahead and worry yourself sick about it. Then put it out of your mind and enjoy the rest of your day. Another important thing you can do during this time is to not just worry about everything but to put some constructive thought into how to better deal with your problems. Sometimes you won't have a good idea about how to do that for a while, for days, maybe weeks, but don't let that get you down. Remember the other principle of persistence I mentioned earlier. Stick it through to the end.Realistically, life is never as bad as it seems to us during our darkest and most depressed moments--nor as wonderful as it seems during our happiest, most ecstatic moments. It's somewhere in between. The point here is that one should also cultivate the proper attitude--since that's often the only thing one has total control over in one's life. If you're the sort of person for whom even little things get you down--which is more of us than we would like to admit--then strive to be more objective. The little things can't really hurt you. They're just annoying psychologically because they bruise our egos a little bit. Save your emotional energy for the really big problems in your life, instead--because there will be more than enough of those. Cultivate a positive, upbeat attitude so that the little things are practically beneath your notice. Let them slide off you like water off a duck's back. This is also another important Zen principle--that too much ego impedes our progress in the martial arts--and our path through life as well.Well, I've gone on longer than I intended, but this book is so chock full of useful little tidbits of advice that I got a little carried away. So I'll just conclude by reiterating that Hyams has written a great little introduction to Zen concepts as applied to the martial arts. But perhaps even more important is that they can be applied beneficially to every other area of your life. Zen in the Martial Arts

I bought this book as a kid at 16 just being introduced to martial arts. 20 years later, I can still say, after college and an adult life filled to overflow that this book, among the hundreds I have read that touch on similar subjects, is STILL the best book of it's class. It is modern, unlike Sun Tzu or Samurai literature, and that is the book's strength. Samurais did not have the tedium of modern life to contend with: boardroom meetings, petty office jobs that lend life no meaning, mindless commercialized, propagandized media buzzing all around us. Samurai did not live in our world of wasting time and energy on nothing. They had time to get dressed and take their time, breathe clean air, and be human, and that is what Zen in the Martial Arts attempts to do, restore that balence to a martial artist's lifestyle...in a Modern world, however, not in some remote past. And that is why this book is in a class of it's own. Many try to approach this focal point without success, but none in my opinion succeed in so few pages or in such inspiring, heart-to-mind immediacy as Hyams manages. It may not seem important to a souless, bloodless academic, but to many a martial artist for several generations it simply is without peer.

There is nothing New Age or ridiculous about this book. I feel sorry for the people who don't understand how to appreciate it. This is written by a man who was deeply affected by Bruce Lee, most likely the greatest modern kung fu exponent of our age, because Lee was a kung fu warrior who lived in the world of hype and electrified delusion and he could see through it, even while using what it had to offer. Hollywood nothing. The only thing even remotely Hollywood about this book is the fact that Bruce Lee had been in Hong Kong Films and starred on a TV pilot that immediately replaced him before airing the actual show because Lee, as an actual Chinese, was "too Chinese" (meaning a white guy needed to interpret a Chinese for us whites). Wow. That's so Hollywood of you, Bruce.

On the reality side, Hyams transmits the inspirational genius that was everything in Bruce Lee. How to be fluid, like water, like the yin and yang of the Tao. How to dare to will to control one's own life. Yes, ignoring dental pain is possible... So what? Pain can be ignored. This is not the point of this book.

There is, however, an abundance of stories about people who overcame their fears and anxieties and their lacking to go on to open up the horizon in their world. This is a book about taking control and navigating one's life, as a martial artist, as a warrior in the modern world, toward freedom of the spirit. It reminds us that we are alive and that we can do pretty much anything that we really WANT or need to do, not really about something so trivial and pointless as "going to the dentist without anesthetic". The emphasis is on freedom to get what we need and want out of life, not on merely testing ourselves through performing superhuman feats. Maybe for the Moderns in Hyams time and place, knee deep in the modernity of the late 60's and early 70's, it really did take such feats to convert a following, to shake off the certain medical materialism of the times. Today I think everyone has seen the guru walk on hot coals. Everyone has suspicions about authority. Everybody wonders what they could do and fantasizes about the nature of true experiential freedom, yet they do not usually follow through with it toward their own potential in the same manner Lee was fully advocating.

What's truly remarkable is that someone showed Moderns of his time that they could walk red hot coals of modernity delusion completely unscathed, turn toward the world, wink, and then disappear from it's grasp into their own freedom, their own use of their own time, space and lives. - Zen - Philosophy - Adventure - Martial Arts Books'
