Weightlifting Gloves - weight training, weightlifting gloves

Pros:

- Covers the proximal interphalangeal joint area (the joints closest to the knuckles) to reduce calluses associated with heavy pulling exercises like weighted lat pulls, or deadlifts. This is the area most weight lifting gloves do not cover.

- Quicker to put on and take off than gloves.

- Rubberized grip does not slip.

- Pad does cover palm area when your hand is wrapped around a bar.

Cons:

- Because the thumb does not receive any padding, it takes a little bit of getting used to initially when you are doing dumbbell presses. I rarely use gloves for those anyway so being able to take them off quickly and put them back on between supersets of pushes and pulls is convenient.

I recommend searching for gripad on google and looking at the video on the website to figure out how to properly put on the grips. One of the previous reviewers mentioned threading your thumb through the grips. You do not thread your thumbs. The thumbs are left free. The biggest loop is for your index finger, then following that goes your middle finger and ring finger. Gripad Workout Grips, Black

I had them for about 2-3 weeks and they worked amazing! best weightlifting equipment I ever had. Only problem like everyone else have stated is that they are poorly made. I would use them for shoulder presses, weighted dips/pullups, bench press, and for deadlifts and squats. i'm really disappointed that the padding is tearing apart on mine, but i love them so much that i'm getting another pair until i can find a better replacement. any recommendations?

This is the second set of Gripads I have ordered. The first is still in use. This second set broke the second time I used them. I see the company touts how they have grown, but from my perspective, when they were small and trying to gain business, they put out a great product. Now too much goes into telling us how great they are instead of showing us with a great product. It's a shame, as the product worked great the first time.

After years of going through full lifting gloves some with wrist wraps and others as minimal as I could find I happened upon these amazing gloves in a little store attached to the Powerhouse Gym I work out at.

The store is gone but I fell in love with these simple and VERY useful gloves. The padding is very nice and it covers the entire palm so you have a great grip. WOOT Very happy! I love these grips!

These grips are really great!

No heat, no sweat, no blisters, and the callusses are gone.

The first pair lasted about 5 months (I do crossfit 4-5 times a week) and I just got my 2nd pair. Received an Email from the company that the new production is even more durable which make me even happier with Gripads.

Highly recommended! Great product!

I want to like these - they are super comfortable, compact, and great grip. Unfortunately the finger loops got torn apart in 3 crossfit workouts.

With some better materials/sewing these could be great.

love the grips but the seams/stitching got caught on one of the clips on the machines and pulled off the seam/stitching off the grips. it wasn't torn it just became loose. now im stuck with this ugly string hanging out of the grips.

ive only been training with weights for about 6 months (im 27) and got these about 2 months ago. they have helped me improve my form with every exercise. in addition, my calluses are gone. the grip pads are especially helpful with shoulder and chest presses. you can really squeeze tight and it really enables you to focus on using good form. there is a nice soft cushion. its not like the other pads that are just a thin piece of sticky material. these have a small amount of cushion that you can really squeeze onto. personally, i wear the right on my left and the left on my right, putting my pinky, ring and middle fingers through the holes. my fingers are long and skinny and my palm is pretty wide so this is the grip that i like best. im buying 2 more cause my original pair is starting to show signs of wear.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Just used these for the first time. I'm used to using a pad (no finger holes) for certain exercises. It helps with the "mind muscle link". Anyway, these gloves bridge the gap between gloves and pads. I could use these for any upper-body exercise. Admittedly, I haven't done any bench-pressing with them, but I think they'll work fine. I definitely recommend them! - Weight Training - Weight Lifting Gloves - Weightlifting Gloves'

Hollywood Biography - biopic, liza minnelli

Arguably the single greatest talent to emerge from golden-era Hollywood, Judy Garland continues to fascinate us even more than four decades after her untimely death. As a singer, she was incomparable; as an actress, she was exceptional; as a star, she was perhaps the most brilliant celebrity of her generation. But behind the brillance there was a deeply troubled woman who began her career as a child in the hands of a driven mother and an all-powerful studio, who raced through five husbands, who fought a losing battle with chemical dependency throughout most of her life, and who self-destructed time and time again--only to arise, phoenix-like, from her own ashes over and over again. It was an extraordinary life.So it should come as no surprise, really, that this three-hour television falls a bit short. Realistically, it would take a talent of Garland's own scope to bring her fully to the screen. But what the film does right, it does extremely, extremely well--and the centerpieces of the film are the remarkable performances of Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis. Both give extraordinary performances. That said, however, both performances are flawed due to the age of the actresses. Blanchard, who plays the teenage Garland, is clearly too old to be thirteen-ish when the film begins; Davis, who plays Garland from her twenties until her death, is clearly too old to be Garland in her twenties. But so exceptional are the performances that these are actually minor quibbles. When made up for the role and placed in period attire, both Blanchard and Davis have the look to an absolutely uncanny degree. More importantly, they match each other in their skill at playing Garland, who was one of the most uniquely idioscyratic personalities of her era--indeed, Davis has been described by many as having "channeled" Garland, and I certainly wouldn't disagree. And the supporting cast is quite good as well, ranging from above average to extremely good, something of a surprise in a made-for-television movie. Equally impressive is the painstaking recreation of the world in which Garland moved; her wardrobe, both on stage and off, has been meticulously recreated right down to the hat she wore for her wedding to Vincent Minnelli. Be it sets, costumes, or props, the design staff did a truly miraculous job.But the film falls down in both script and detail. Part of this is due to fact that Lorna Luft's memoir was, naturally enough, based on what her mother told her about her life. Doubtlessly Luft accepted much of this as fact, but Garland was notorious for twisting the truth if it would make a good story--and consequently the film includes several depictions of events that by all other accounts didn't happen that way, assuming they happened at all. When filming THE WIZARD OF OZ, SHADOWS shows Garland being crowded out of the shot by her co-stars, prompting director Victor Flemming to say "You three dirty hams, let that little girl in there!" It was one of Garland's favorite party stories--but it didn't happen. Garland was well known for her ability to perform complex musical numbers with little rehearsal in a single take, and SHADOWS offers her performance of "The Trolley Song" in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS as an example of her ability to do that--but while she certainly could and often did perform her numbers in a single flawless take, she didn't do it for that particular number. In fact, she mis-mouthed her own vocal play-back during filming, and later had to re-record the vocal as a result. Perhaps the most obvious gaffe in the film is when Garland is found dead in the bathroom of her London apartment; SHADOWS shows her husband going to the bathroom door and seeing her sprawled out on the floor, clearly dead. In reality, the door was locked and he had to climb out on the roof to look in the window--and from her appearance he was unsure of her condition until he actually got into the room. That aside, the script does a superior job of showing Garland's racy, acid, and often self-mocking sense of humor and her often-hidden powerful sexuality. It also does a fairly good job of displaying her love-hate relationship with her own talent. But it is extremely spotty, skipping over major events and focusing on considerably more trivial incidents. (Garland's first husband, David Rose, is never seen in the film--and indeed, scarcely mentioned at all.) It lacks flow. And were it not for the incredible performances of both Blanchard and Davis, it would often also lack drama--a pretty astonishing thing when one considers how electrically dramatic Garland's life was from day to day. Perhaps most frustrating, the film also has a certain aloofness from its own subject; we observe Garland, but the script itself never really allows us to get inside her.In the final analysis, ME AND MY SHADOWS is a film that will most greatly appeal to casual viewers or to new Garland fans, for it does show the main outlines of her life and her career. Hardcore fans, however, will be frustrated by its covert inadequacies--and will be quick to spot the numerous moments when the script goes awry. Still, even with its numerous flaws, Blanchard and Davis are exceptional. And I strongly recommend it on that basis. Life with Judy Garland - Me and My Shadows

This is a pretty favorable treatment of the life of Judy Garland, at least from the standpoint of the role daughter Lorna Luft played in the context of growing up with a mother who became a legend in her own time. Lorna does, after all, narrate this thing, and as a result, you get the feeling that this is going to place herself and her father, Sid Luft, in the best possible light. What makes this video worthwhile -- enough worth owning -- is that, flaws and all, it is still by far the BEST overall bio-pic available about Judy Garland. The firestorm of moods is all on display here, particularly with Judy Davis' spectacular (with a capital "S") performance covering Judy's post-adolescent years. The music is incredible, the lip-synching is flawless and the re-creations are bulletproof to criticism. My aggravations associated with the near invisibility of daughter Liza Minnelli in her mother's life (she did tour with her didn't she? Sang with her, didn't she? But there's very little evidence of it here other than the notion that Liza was more career-focused and by implication, more selfish, compared to beloved daughter Lorna) -- were far outweighed by the sheer hypnotic delivery of the songs by both Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis. No one had a voice like Judy's, a true original, and thankfully for fans and non-fans alike, there's enough here that is jammed-packed great to make you overlook the "transitions" that act as bridges between songs. Certainly, you get the impression that Lorna's father, Sid Luft, was Judy's true love. Whether it was or not, this is Lorna's view, and the magnificent actor Victor Garber certainly makes a dashing and strong case on her behalf playing Mr. Luft.Without Lorna's participation, this production would not have come to be and certainly the use of Judy's own voice could not be replicated by any other actress, living or dead. Judy Davis' performance is hands down riveting and wonderful. And I don't want to overlook Tammy Blanchard, who plays "young Judy" to perfection. The Wizard of Oz sequences with "Over the Rainbow" literally have you, sorry, here comes the obvious, "over the moon," in their seeming authenticity. The magic of these early sequences are so precious that I must admit that when Judy Davis comes into the movie, the effect was jarring for several minutes, so unlike in appearance she is to Judy G. until the story reaches into Garland's "later years."In sum, don't worry about the one-sided treatment and be satisfied about being transfixed listening to a voice for the ages. Never dull or boring, equal parts unsentimental and sentimental, "Me and My Shadows" stands as the best epic thus far about the life of Judy Garland. I'm sure Liza would have differed with many of the story elements presented, but there's no doubt she would NOT have quarreled with how "mama" is portrayed. - Hugh Laurie - Liza Minnelli - Judy Davis - Biopic'

Sharpener

The Makita Sharpener is a necessity for the serious woodworker. It works like a motorized Japanese Waterstone (which in fact it is). Included in the basic package is a great blade rest that will accomodate most jointer/planer knives and a 1000 grit wheel. You have to practice a bit with the water control knob in order to keep the flow of water onto the wheel at the correct rate, but this is easily done. I recommend that you also purchase a coarser stone for use with removing knicks from your blades; this will save lots of time. One of the best features of this sharpener is that it is one of the few that will allow you to flat grind your edges; other water sharpeners like the DELTA and the TORMEK hollow-grind knives which removes a lot of metal from near the edge. This weakens, I believe, the knive blades when compared to flat grinding. You can also find a great technical supplement for using this sharpener. Makita 9820-2 1.1 amp Horizontal Wheel Wet Blade Sharpener

I've been in the process of researching an electric sharpener and have decided upon the Makita 9820-2. I've noticed several reviews that raise the concern over the lack of a coarser wheel.

Highland Hardware (www.highlandhardware.com) has developed their own "Green Wheel" for this unit, a 120 grit wheel that will ..."grind the hardest steels as aggressively as a course wheel on a bench grinder". They also have a HandTool jig for sharpening chisels and other tools and a 6000 Grit Fine Wheel. Hope this helps!

I love this thing! I got mine and right away put my Dewalt planer blades to the test, I got a very sharp flat straight edge in minutes after reading through the directions once. I then took the guide off and sharpend my chisels and gouges after which I sharpened every knife I could find. The 1000 grit stone removes metal at just the right speed. After I get a good edge I turn it off and just hone the blades on the wheel while its not moving to put a finishing touch on the edge. I plan to buy the 6000 grit stone for hunting knifes and chisels. The water system takes practice and the plastic skirt around the stone that keeps water from spraying around has to be up or you get a mess. Its so easy to set up it saves a lot of time over using hand stones. I also plan to get the chisel guide to make getting a perfectly straight edge easyer to acheive

I received my Makita 9820-2 promptly and unpacked it. Assembly was minimal. Instructions for its use were sketchy in parts but it is a fairly straight forward tool. The learning curve is short and my results met my expectations. My planer and jointer blades are sharper than when I had them done professionally. I would recommend getting a courser stone if you have to do anything but hone your blades. Overall I would say that this product performed as advertised.

First the downside: I agree with another reviewer regarding getting other wheels. Accessories are very hard to source. However, the wheel that comes with the machine is perfect for obtaining and maintaining a very sharp edge on a blade in good condition. If you have serious gouges in your blades, you may want to consider a one-time sharpening by a pro and then use this machine to keep the edge.

The good stuff: It works perfectly!! The directions were simple enough and the operation of the machine is basic: start the water flow, set the angle guide, turn on the wheel, and bring the blade to the wheel. The manual does not speak specifically to sharpening chisels (the holder provided is for planer/jointer blades and so are the instructions). But here's how I did it. Don't use the holder. Place the chisel ("back") flat on the guide. Adjust the angle of the guide so it brings the chisel to the wheel at the correct angle. Take the chisel away, start the machine and place the chisel on the guide but away from the wheel. Bring (slide)the chisel forward on the guide, keeping it flat on the guide. Keep it moving forward until it makes contact with the wheel. Think of it as trying to slice away a very thin layer of the wheel rather than grinding the chisel with the wheel (if that makes sense).

I am very pleased with the results.

I have had a Makita 9820-2 for over 6 years. I would not try to sharpen my planer blades or chisels with any thing else. You can never burn the blade. I lost my 9820 in the Isabell Hurricane when it was submerged for 4 days in salt water. I bought a new one. To the person who complained about not having a coarse wheel for the 9820-- there is a 60 grit, 7 inch wheel made for it. check Makita 741074-9, at $44.99 free shipping. How can you go wrong or isn't 60 grit coarse enough?

Man was I fed up with burning my good chisels & plane irons with that 3600 RPM bench grinder! Those things were designed for sharpening lawn mower blades & axes not fine woodworking tools. Although this tool is primarily designed for sharpening jointer & planer knives it also excels at sharpening chisels & plane irons with absolutely no fear of burning the edge. I set it up & sharpened an old block plane iron to a perfectly flat square bevel. After a couple of passes on a Japanese waterstone I had a razor sharp edge. I also prefer the flat as opposed to the hollow ground bevel. The edge holds up longer and stays sharper.I haven't yet used the Makita to sharpen my jointer blades but I'm confident it will do a good job. I am saving my money for the coarse stone for those nasty nicks. If you enjoy a well tuned sharp tool as much as I do you gotta get yourself one of these!

The most obvious and severe flaw, is the steel backing plate on the stone. It rusts. That's right. It rusts. Even if you don't use it often, the stone doesn't dry out for weeks. And to compound the problem, Makita chose to use a very brittle adhesive to mount the stone to the backing plate. Because the two unlike materials are held together with a non-flexible bond, the adhesive develops fractures which allow water to seep through to the steel. Steel expands up to twelve times in volume, when it oxidizes. This expansion lifts the stone from the wheel, resulting in a wobble that increases over time. Eventually the stone becomes unusable. Makita should consider a one part polyurethane adhesive, such as that used in the marine and automobile industry. When the stone failed on my first 9820-2, I pried it off of the backing plate and remounted it in a bed of polyurethane caulk. I had no more trouble with that aspect. The spindle/flange assembly which is driven internally and the stone is mounted to externally is steel as well, and corrodes to the point where the threads disintegrate. I fixed this by re-tapping the hole, but threw away the knob because the threads didn't match. This was no great loss because the threads were rusted off as well. Amazing! No more quick mount. Have a wrench and an assortment of washers on hand to mount the stone. There is in fact, not a single piece of stainless steel used anywhere on the Makita sharpener. Why doesn't Makita use stainless steel on something that's intended to be wet? I am amazed and perplexed by this lack of common sense in design, every time I walk by an armada of stainless BBQ grills or stainless appliances at my local Home Depot. In addition I purchased the expensive 6000 grit stone, which had a wobble so bad, I couldn't see the edge of my carving tools. This is a polishing phase. You don't need to look for the "wire edge" and so I performed this step by feel. I stopped using it all together, when the up and down wobble became impossible to work with. I now use an 8000 grit bench stone to perform this task. I am in the fourth year of using my second sharpener now, and again experiencing all of the above problems. Makita's earlier models had an issue with the nylon gears not meshing properly, due to the plastic housing impeding moving the motor in its slotted brackets close enough for proper engagement. My first sharpener was just such a model and has afforded me with much knowledge, but my relationship with Makita is souring. Why did I buy another? It offers a large flat grinding surface, which is invaluable for honing and polishing the backs of chisels and plane blades. It is gear driven as opposed to belt drive, and believe me when you start to hone the back of a plane blade and it starts to "drag", you'll really appreciate that. I can only attribute the positive reviews it has received, to the duration of use. I've been using my current unit four years now. If you have any doubts, call Makita's toll free number and speak with tech support. One star for the status quo. It's sad, because it could so easily rate a five.'

Letter Opener - letter openers

This product works great! It opens mail and packages with ease. Fits comfortably in my hand. Sleek design. The only draw back to ordering this item, is that YOU do not get to choose the color. The price is for one, and the color of THEIR choice. I wanted the purple, I received the red. It doesn't go with the decor of my desk. However, it's small enough to put on my shelf or in one of my organizer drawers. The red is a nice shade of red. Baumgartens Letter Opener/Envelope Slitter, Assorted Colors. Model # 67130 (Sold Singly)

After looking in a few retail stores locally, I couldn't find this, so I splurged and bought it online. It still works the best of all the various letter opener designs I've tried over the years. The shipping is a bit steep for something so little so I would recommend buying a few of these and giving them as stocking stuffers or party favors or something. Thumbs Up to Amazon for correcting the picture as the other reviewer noted.

So, I was looking for a letter opener and I bought this one. Because I failed to read the "sold Singly" at the end of the title (it's a very long title), I was suprised when I received just one and not three of them (as the product image shows). Because of this a let a negative rating commenting that "Product image shows three pieces and you receive only one."

Immediatly I get this response in the Seller's feedbak page at amazon:

Seller Response: "NOW FOR THE WHOLE TRUTH : Title States SOLD SINGLY, Product Details & Product Description both state SOLD INDIVIDUALLY. The Image shows the three colors the item is supplied in. We're so sorry you wasn't able to comprehend the listing text. Maybe it's just an April Fool ?" Date: April 1, 2011

And I also received this email from them:

Good Morning, I am sorry you decided to leave us a negative feedback for this sale, when it would appear you was unable to comprehend the listing text. I have a comment for you Mary at ONlineServiceValueChoice:

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND MARY????? - Is this the way you talk to a customer because he/she failed to read the product description and technical details of a letter opener!!!! ?

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND MARY????? - You say that the image shows three products just to show the three colors the item is supplied in - Why do I need to see that if I'm not able to choose the color???? This was the reason that I was not satisfied with you, and if you failed to comprehend that then you should not be doing this business... or at least you should not repy to customers

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND MARY????? - Sure, after this experience (as you suggest to me) I will never order from your company again. - Letter Openers'

Mystery Series - mystery series

Another fabulous novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Same characters, great new mysteries. My only problem with this book had to do with the formatting as opposed to the writing. In places, where there should have been pictures, my kindle only showed the word "graphic". It would have been nice to see the map/sketch instead of a note that there should be a picture. Dell Replacement - laptop battery, laptop batteries

A whole lot less expensive than the replacement battery from Dell, and it works great! Now I can carry my laptop around again. Gives me up to 3 hours plus when fully recharged. Not bad for a cheap 6 cell. I held back one star, because the fit in one corner isn't absolutely flush, but sticks up a nano bit. Battery for Dell Inspiron 1300 b120 b130 kd186 hd438

These are sub-standard replacement batteries. I have tried two batteries from Tech-Orbits and both of them have failed to live up to the quality that tech- Orbits claims. I have recently sent them two emails trying to get a replacement for the battery that they have already replaced once. I have not gotten a response as of yet. I recently purchased a battery from another merchant and I am very pleased with my purchase. I will never purchase another laptop battery from Tech- Orbits, If you are looking for a good replacement battery for your laptop, I suggest that you look else where. I will just accept the amount that I paid Tech-Orbits for the battery as a lost. it is my opinion that you should stay clear of this merchant.

Totaly displeased

Stan

This battery wouldnt charge right and wouldnt last more than about 45 minuets. So they are replaceing it without a problem. Then maybe i can give it a 5 star rating.I am glad I bought it through AMAZON.com.

Ordered this battery based on the positive reviews. It arrived on time and had no problem installing it. However, it is running hot and I have to periodically unplug from the wall outlet as my laptop starts sending the signal for overheating. I agree with the other reviewer that you get what you pay for.

I got the battery and it worked for a very very short time. The first charge took for 100%. The 2nd charge and on charged only up to 98%. After 3 weeks, it said "98%." When I unplugged to use on battery power, my laptop died. When I plugged it back in, it said 0% charged, charging, won't charge at all. It won't hold a charge. What a piece of junk. I would never buy one of these again. I would probably also never own a Dell laptop again since their batteries die after one year and they cost $135.95 for a new one from Dell. - Battery - Laptop Batteries - Laptop Battery - Dell'

Motorola Charger - charger, cell phone

As an earlier review noted, plug in this charger and nothing happens. My RAZR doesn't even see it. I ordered two; neither would charge my phone. (One of them rattled; something loose inside.) Contrary to what another review said, this charger is *not* the same as the one that came with my phone; though similar, it is not the same, and it has a different model number (see the label on the charger itself). I also ordered a car charger but I'm not going to risk using it on my phone. Did I return these items? No, I just threw them away, because at these prices, with shipping and handling both ways *not* refunded, I'd probably lose even more money returning them. (Too bad we can't give a "0 star" rating.) Motorola Mini USB Wall Charger for Motorola Phones

Considering the price is about $20 below what you'd pay at Best Buy or Circuit City, you really can't go wrong with this charger. It is also much smaller than the version that came with the Razr, which makes it great for travel, or in my particular case less bulky allowing it to easily plug into a surge protector next to chargers/plugs for other devices. This charger also works on my Blackberry - one less thing to have to deal with.

This charger worked for about a month before it just went dead. It was a replacement for the OEM charger that lasted almost five years. I just plug my cell phone into my laptop for recharging now, using a USB cord. It's more reliable than the charger, and costs me nothing which, coincidentally, is what this charger is also worth.

I bought this for charging my Motorola RAZR while at work and it does not work. I plug it in and the phone registers that the charger is attached but hours later my phone is still not charged. When I use the charger that came with my phone it charges the phone in less than two hours so I know there is something wrong with this one. I personally am very unhappy with this purchase and cannot recommend it.

UPDATE: I ordered a travel charger directly from my cell phone company and, while it looks exactly like the one I ordered via Amazon, it performs 100% better - it charges my phone in about 90 minutes. So I now know for sure that this one is defective. 85 cents might sound appealing, but if it ends up in the landfill then it's nothing but junk.

Motorola Mini USB Travel Charger for the T305 Bluetooth Speaker

If the Motorola T305 Bluetooth speaker has any problems, it that it only comes with a 12 volt charger for your car and doesn't come with a 120 VAC charger so you can charge it overnight in the house. This charger solves the problem nicely.

I bought this adapter as well as a car charger before I read all of the reviews. I also noticed the Motorola Genuine Product Guide and thought, 'nah, I should be safe; all of this stuff is available on Amazon.' It wasn't until AFTER I placed my order for both of them before I realized that some of the sellers were selling knock-offs. I received both products today and after comparing them to the product guide I can gladly say they are both genuine! I couldn't believe that I was able to get this for so cheap! Never again will I buy from my cell company first; thanks Amazon and thanks AccessoryOne!

I first ordered this because it was cheap. Now I know why. The first time I ordered, the charger never came. I contact the seller and they did send another one out, which didn't work. Not worth the hassle. Just get a charger from a reliable company. - Charger - Cell Phone - Motorola - Motorola Charger'
