Portable Scanner

I just KNEW this product was out there somewhere! I kept thinking, "Surely I'm not the only person who has hundreds of photos to scan and can't afford to take weeks to do it!" I kept looking, reading reviews, and looking some more. There was no way I was going to take 5 minutes - or even 2 minutes - per picture, previewing, scanning, cropping, adjusting. All I wanted to do was get decent, quick scans from old photos, good enough to post on Facebook. This little gem turned out to be perfect for what I needed.

PROS: This model will handle up to 8.5 by 11 inch photos. There is an adjustable guide to help you feed pictures into the slot, but I found I didn't really even need to use it as long as I positioned the photo up against the left edge of the scan path.

Scans are very quick. At the default setting, a 4x6 photo takes approx. 20 seconds to scan and save. Everything is automatic. You put a picture in the slot. The scanner feeds it through - fast! When the light stops blinking, you scan another. I sat there watching TV, feeding one shot after another through the unit without a hitch.

One of the best features is that you don't have to be connected to a computer. If you're not connected via the USB cord, photos are automatically saved on the SD card. (The unit comes with a 1GB card, which hold hundreds of photos. HINT: After you install the scanning software from the SD card during setup, you can delete the scan software from the SD card. You'll free up lots of room for more photos. Just be sure to save a copy of the software somewhere, because I could not find a way to download it from the manufacturer's Web site.) You could take this unit to your family reunion, sit at a table with the relatives, and scan in photo after photo. When you get home, you can transfer the photos to your computer, or just pop the SD card into your digital photo frame. (I scanned about 350 photos and had them uploaded and posted to Facebook photo albums in about 3 hours.) Of course, if you'd prefer to connect and scan directly to your computer via USB cable (included), that is easy to do as well.

CONS: You have very little control over the scan settings. You choose either 300 dpi (dots per inch) or 600 dpi. (300 dpi is fine for posting photos online.)

You have no control over how the photo files are named when they are saved on the SD card or on your computer. (They are just numbered sequentially.)

You will need another software program if you need to manipulate the images after scanning (cropping, adjusting colors and brightness, etc.) The software that comes with the scanner does not have any editing functions. I recommend IRFANVIEW, a superb freeware photo editing program [...]

It would have been really nice if the unit could have operated on batteries. Then you would not even have needed to use the power cord (included)! Maybe next model...

BOTTOM LINE: If you need museum-quality scans for posterity or super high resolution scans for enlarging, get yourself a good flatbed scanner and digital photo editing software. It takes a lot of money, time and effort to get scans that good.

But if you just need quick, decent quality photo scans for sharing via email or posting online, this may be exactly what you're looking for.

NOTE: After now doing approx. 500 scans, I have not had any of the problems with lines across the image that some reported. I do use the little cleaning swab (included) about every 50 scans as suggested by the manufacturer. Pandigital Photolink One-Touch PANSCN06 8.5-Inch x11-Inch Photo Scanner

The first thing we noticed about the PANSCN06 scanner was its small size. The scanner is about the size of the cardboard tube used for a roll of paper towels. The unit is amazingly powerful and versatile considering its small footprint.

We scanned a family album of 50 various size snapshots from the 1950s and 1960s by placing the scanner in front of the keyboard with the usb cord attached to the computer. Then we got going and placed photo after photo into the scanner slot, with the dual rolls of the scanner doing the work by pulling each photo through the front and out the back. The scanning of 50 photos required less than half an hour. Most of the time was spent removing the photos, then reinserting them back into the family album once scanning was complete.

Because we elected to scan directly to the computer rather than the SD card, we got immediate feedback by observing each scan on the monitor screen in near real-time. Thus we could tell if a photo had been scanned to our satisfaction, or needed to be re-scanned due to cockeyed orientation or some other reason.

As others here have observed, there are two scanning resolutions, 300dpi and 600dpi. We have only used the lower resolution, but have no complaints. The scans on the computer screen are at least four times larger than the original photos, which renders detail sufficient to blow us away.

There has been an issue with Pandigital scanners regarding lines appearing in the scanned image. We experienced no such problem after 50 scans. Reviewers on other websites have suggested opening the scanner case to clean the scanning glass of baked-on dirt or debris which cause the lines. We are prepared to attempt this remedy if needed, but only after the warranty expires.

There is one important issue about old photo scanning that needs to be brought to light here. This scanner is proficient at revealing details, some wonderful and some not, which are not obvious in the original photos. Thus, that hairy facial mole on Aunt Matilda's face in 1956 will once again be front and center on your computer screen, even if it was not that apparent in your little 2 x 3 print from the Eisenhower administration.

In our case, we grew up with a large active family that abused photos. Thus, after scanning we found ourselves using the eyedropper and paintbrush in Photoshop to restore images. We removed a wrinkle caused by a puppy teething on a print. We digitally blotted a red raspberry jam stain from my sister Susan's nose. We whitened the image to remove yellowed aging appearance. And so on.

Bottom line: great value, quick way to archive your treasured family moments from yesteryear.'

Samsung Car Charger - samsung, car charger

Considering Samsung's own website states that it had "quick charging technology", I expected at least an output of 950ma like the other more popular Motorola car charger.

I like to stream Pandora through my phone's Bluetooth and occasionally use the GPS as well, so I'd like to have a charger that can handle that as well as top off my battery. Unfortunately, this product doesn't fit that bill. At 700ma, its certainly enough if you just want to occasionally charge your phone, but definitely not for heavy usage.

I'd get the cheaper, sexier and more powerful to boot Motorola charger on Amazon. Theres absolutely no reason to get this charger over that one unless you absolutely have to have Samsung written on your charger. Samsung CAD300UBEB/STD Standard Car Power Charger

Works just like it should. Haven't had a single issue, and has the thinner plug for recessed USB port on the Samsung Captivate. If you need a car charger for your Galaxy S phone, this is the one to get.

As most have said about this item, it sure beats paying 30-40 bucks for the Sprint one. I just got the item today and after a twenty minute charge in my car, I am glad to say it never stopped charging. But I guess that should go without saying since this is a genuine Samsung product. Highly recommend anyone in need of a car charger for their Samsung Epic to buy this one. As a matter of fact I'm sure this will even work for the HTC Evo since my gf and I use the same home charger for our phones.

This charger works fantastic with my Samsung Vibrant. Oddly enough, unlike other chargers I've had on which the power light is on when the charger is receiving power from the lighter, this one does not turn on until power is getting to the phone. Works great and fits into the armrest socket in my vehicle. - Car Chargers - Car Charger - Samsung - Galaxy S'

Speakers - home theater, speakers

This product is stylish and functional. Solid black finish matches most decor schemes. The product "hides" the speaker wires. Very sturdy. This product is an excellent match for the Bose 301 speakers. Bose FS-1 Bookshelf Speaker Floor Stands (pair) - Black and Silver

Great stands to have for your Bose 201 or 301 bookshelf speakers. They are very sturdy. Won't tip over. I think the price is high for 4 sheets of metal and a couple of aluminum tubes, but what else can you do with your speakers if you don't have bookshelves or a large entertainment center. The black and silver blends in well too.

I needed a set of stands that held my Paradigm bookshelf speakers, but would be sturdy enough to not tip over if my baby pulled herself up on them. This set of stands has an extremely wide base (15x12 3/4) which helps keep it from topping over. Also, it has rubber feet on both the base as well as the pedestal which help keep it from sliding. Lastly, the pedestal is wide enough that even if my daughter were able to rock the stands, the speakers aren't sliding off.

Overall, great stands and great looking! My only complaint would be that there are only two screws that hold the posts into the base, which causes the post to slightly sway when my daughter pulls up on them. Nothing significant, but if they had added a third screw it would have prevented this.

Excellent stands for non-fixed bookshelf speakers. They come with enough rubber bumpers to isolate them from the floor, and the speaker from the top deck. I was happy with the wire hiding system. The hole in the back and the base are large enough to snake most larger diameter Monster/ or studio wires, through easily, though you might need to raise the feet for really big bundles of wire, especially if you have power cords to them. The base is sufficiently wide to make them very stable. I'm running M-Audio Studiophile M-40s through an Airport express system. These set the speakers right at the side bolster height on my living room sofas, placing the speakers at listener chest level when sitting. They also look good. It is a clean contemporary design that blends well. I have one set, am ordering a second, and will probably buy a third set later on. They feel substantive, and won't get knocked over in normal use.

A good choice at this price point!

Placing Bose speakers on the floor or on chairs isn't exactly the way they're meant to be heard. Raise them up a bit and you can tell where their intended. Knowing what needed to be done, I purchased speaker stands. It's better looking, and disperses the sound out evenly across the room, what more can I say, it works for me.

These stands are nice and heavy and they feel substantial as soon as you begin to put them together. The heavy duty construction allows you to feel safe knowing your speakers won't tip over with only a slight nudge. The black and silver go well with the black and silver construction of bose 201s or 301 - I have both (301s for front stereo sound and 201s for rear surround sound). The price tag (I feel) is somewhat excessive but you won't remember the cost in a year if you have the right speakers for these anyway.

I couldn't find a satisfactory set of speakers for my infiniti bookshelves. Finally, when I came across this set with the Bose name, I jumped on them. The stands and shelves are made of heavy grade metal, so they are very sturdy. They assemble quite easily, but the directions were a little vague regarding front and back, top and bottom. It's important, since the stands have a hole for the speaker wire to pass through. I had to assemble and dis-assemble the first one a couple of times before I got it right. It's not that big of a deal though, since it's just four screws.

As usual with Bose, everything assembled as promised. No special tools were required. I always marvel at how efficient Bose packaging is. They must spend as much time designing ergonomic packaging as they do on the products themselves. I've made three Bose purchases through Amazon and they are three for three. Great speaker stands. They look great in my room - Surround - Home Theater - Speakers - Bose'

Vacuum Trimmer - vacuum trimmer, clipper

I have had a beard, and thus have had beard trimmers, for almost 30 years, so I have some pretty strong ideas about what a trimmer should and should not do. IT SHOULD NOT STAB YOU IN THE FACE! But that is exactly what the new QT4070/41 does.

For years I was wonderfully happy with Norelco's previous top-of-the-line model, the T980. I love the vacuum feature, the turbo setting cut my tough beard with gusto, and the length adjustment was generally adequate (though the settings were a bit wide apart, so 3 was too long and 2 was too short).

But the engineers at Norelco have taken a wonderfully designed T980 trimmer and screwed it up royally. The problem is with the guide comb. On the older T980, the guide comb completely covered the cutting head. But on the new Qt4070/41, the guide comb has tines that extend along the top and front of the cutting head, and END IN SHARP POINTS. So the cutting head sits exposed within a cavity between the ends of the two sets of pointy tines. Yeah, sure, that's what I need to drag across my face all bleery-eyed in the morning - pointed sticks! :-(

The new guide comb's design is woefully stupid for two reasons:

1) The length to which your hairs are cut will VARY depending on the angle with which you hold the trimmer against your skin. If you hold the upper face of the guide comb flat against your skin, you get a longer cut than if you allow your skin to span the gap between the two set of tines. And frankly, you KNOW you can't hold the trimmer at the same angle all over your face! BOTTOM LINE: AN UNEVEN TRIM!

2) Even if you are trying hard to keep the flat top of the guide comb flush against your face, you eventually have to turn a corner, like at your jaw line. I have used this Qt4070/41 about a dozen times now, and each time I have managed to jab myself with those stupid tines somewhere - in the jawline, in the chin, in the lip, etc. I know it's just a matter of time before I (a) break a tine, or (b) draw blood. BOTTOM LINE: A PAINFUL TRIM

My advice: QUICK! Buy a T980 before it is discontinued and all bought up! Maybe Norelco will fix the Qt4070/41 by the time you wear out your T980.

I have previously been using a Norelco T870 but the battery stopped holding a charge so I have had to buy a new trimmer. Although there were 3 reviews here that mentioned the guide being faulty I decided to try the trimmer due to the 20+ positive reviews and the lack of a decent alternative.

The trimmer arrived this evening so after charging it for an hour I tried it out.

The guide is adjustable to give a varying length of cut. The lowest setting gives a 2mm cut and the highest 18mm. Unfortunately, the guide is made using flexible prongs which bend a good 3-4mm. This means that if you use a low setting the guide prongs will bend fully to the blade. I found this out by cutting my lip twice in the first minute of use. I also quickly found that due to the flexibility of the guide using a low setting results in a really uneven cut.

I keep my beard pretty short (4-5mm) and there's no way I can use this without the blade cutting me and without making my beard look like it's been hacked at by someone with blunt kid scissors. I think it would be a good product for someone with longer beard hair but for me it is completely unusable.

I lost my Norelco T980 a couple of weeks ago and I was dismayed to discover it was out of production. I purchased the QT4070 this evening and after using it I'm absolutely dismayed at the design of the guard. The gap is wide enough that you WILL maul your upper lip when attempting to trip your mustache! Also the prongs dig into the skin when trimming from the neck toward the cheek. I have a very heavy beard so I have to pass over the same area a couple of times due to the thickness of my hair. It was an extremely unpleasant experience. I've had numerous Norelco Beard Trimmers over the years and I've always been happy with the design however the QT4070 is a production FAIL!

bought this to replace my older turbo vacuum model....what a mistake! The space between the guard and the guide comb doesn't work for me at all...it jabs my skin and allows very very uneven cuts to happen. I tried my best to get adjusted but have just called norelco to exercise the 45 day money back offer.

Definitely be cautious when reading the negative reviews about the trim guide on this trimmer. It is different, but if you slide the guide along your face instead of trying to stuff your chin into the blade slot, you will have a much more comfortable experience.

This trimmer is a little different from the previous model(980 I think), which by the way I loved until the day it found it's way into my toilet...still ran it just was never the same! The QT4070 has a strong motor, a more durable cover for the clippings catcher, and the digital display for battery and height is awesome. Plus the lack of springs and hinges on the guide will make this trimmer survive my poor luggage packing as well! Mustn't forget the travel lock! A great addition to keep the trimmer from draining itself en route to your destination.

I have a pretty tough beard and this little guy made short work of it, neat as a pin!

All in all I think if you can adapt your trimming stroke to the new guide you will be very happy with this trimmer...oh and don't try to drown it! - Clipper - Groomer - Vacuum Trimmer - Trimmer'

Computer Cables - pc vga to tv converter, useless

This cable will not and is not supposed to connect a pc/mac/desktop/laptop to a TV.

even if you have TV out capabilities on your video card and the software to support it, this product will not work! It is not meant to link a computer to a TV.

do not buy this product if you are trying to hook up your computer to your TV. It will not work.

With out even trying it out, you can tell it will not work simply because the RCA cables have all 3 components two of which are audio! your VGA port on your computer is video only! this product is extremely misleading and is very attractive due to the price. Do not be fooled and do not waste your money!

you have been warned. VGA Adapter to TV S-Video RCA Out Cable for PC Video

Despite the negative reviews I bought one of these. I thought, "These people probably don't know what they're doing I'll be fine." I tried the cable with my laptop which was the reason I bought it and, like others, my laptop said it couldn't find an external monitor. I have used the vga on my monitor to connect directly to my HDTV before just fine so I knew it should work. I tried using the s-video end as well as the RCA end (trying both the yellow cable and connecting all three despite the fact that VGA doesn't transmit audio) both with no luck.

The only 5 star review for this product says that you need to support TV Out (my laptop does) and that you need software (my laptop should). Taking my testing one step further I tried to use this product with my GTX260 a fairly new graphics card on my desktop computer and it still did not work.

I think I can confidently say that this product (and possibly all similar products) does not work. There are only two slightly positive reviews for this product and neither of them provide any form of helpful information for how to get it to work. I think amazon should remove the product from the website as it does not work for the majority of purchasers, if at all.

Ok first of all this product is only to hook something up to a computer monitor. If you think you can use this to hook up your computer to your tv your wrong and you need to look at the converters. It works wonders for what it was designed to do and I use it every time I play my xbox. Honestly nothing is better then having monitors hooked up instead of buying a second or third tv to play video games while someone is watching tv.

I bought this too thinking it SHOULD work for me. My purpose was to use it to hook up my PS2 to my VGA monitor.

as the title says its disappointing. The monitor did not detect VGA connection at all. If you are planning to use this to hook up your game console, this is not an answer.

I got this so that i could plug it into my laptop and use it on my tv. It did not work. I did some research and think I found that you have to have a laptop or w/e designed to use something like this. I thought mine should because it is an entertainment notebook from hp, but it doesnt.

BE CAREFUL BEFORE BUYING.

It may or may not work with what you want it to. Make sure it will with what you want it too before buying.

I bought this hoping to connect a Playstation 2 to some old monitor I had lying around. Didn't work. People are also saying you can't connect a PC to a TV with it either. So I must ask, what's the point?

The product description here looks pretty straightforward. "VGA Adapter to TV S-Video RCA Out Cable for PC Video" seems to imply that this would be used to send a video signal from a PC to a television screen. The reviews seem to say that this does not work.

At least one review said the adapter worked for the purpose of sending a video signal from a game console (Xbox 360) to a computer screen, which is what I wanted to do and the reason I bought this. However, I am unable to use this cable in either way. I tried with several consoles (NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube) to connect to my VGA monitor without success. Just to be sure, I tried to use the adapter to connect my laptop to a TV, which doesn't work either.

I'm a fairly capable guy, but I really can't tell whether I bought a junk product that does nothing or if it has some mysterious function which I haven't imagined. Searching around the internet, it seems that you need some kind of signal converter box in order to connect a RCA console to a VGA input, rather than a simple adapter plug.

I don't really know. I'm just going to call this a $7 lesson and save up for a screen with RCA inputs next time. Buyer beware, I guess, or just do more research than I did.

There is nothing wrong with this product. It's a simple cable, nothing really to screw up. But, unless you know what you're doing, you're probably buying this cable for the wrong reasons, thinking it will allow you to display a pc on another monitor or television. You need to have the right video card/hookups, capability for this to work.

I have to say, I have never been so disgusted with a product before now. I'd like to ask the idiot who designed this a few questions. Like, since when does a VGA output support AUDIO? Why are there yellow, RED, AND WHITE cables? Why do they ALL have to be plugged in to the source at the same time in order to deliver a picture worth looking at. Oh, but wait. They don't make Video input cables like that. They don't even make an ADAPTER! Do not buy this product. Big disappointment. Haven't even tried the S-Video input. Kinda scared to.

This product IS NOT to connect your computer to a TV.

It IS used to connect an RCA device like a video game system to a monitor with VGA input. It does what it is supposed to everyone else just doesn't know a thing about computers. - Misleading - Pc Vga To Tv Converter - Trash - Useless'

Usb Kvm Switch - usb kvm switch, kvm

This switch simply works. No complicated setup, no software to install. Just turn off both computers. Plug the shared keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers and microphone into the switch, connect the included cables into the switch and the two computers. Then turn on the first computer, the one you want to designate as #1. After the first computer boots up and everything is okay, then push the #2 button and boot the second computer. That's it. From then on, you just push the button #1 or #2 to make the switch. It switches instantly, if both computers are not asleep. If one is asleep, it gives the signal, and then the PC takes only a few seconds to wake up.

I read a lot of reviews and I'm glad I did. Other switches seem to need software to work well, and rely on keystrokes to change. Because this switch has a button, it just truly switches over without any need to install software, making it the most generic. For PCs, you can use the scroll-lock+scroll-lock key combination to elicit the switchover. But it's simpler just to teach my kids to select button 1 or button 2. TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-209K (Blue)

I also own an expensive Belkin 4-computer model (USB w/audio), but this one actually works better. The Belkin one breaks my multi-function KB, as well as preventing my monitor from sleeping. The TrendNET one works perfectly on both counts, I can switch from my PC to my Mac using ScrollLock+ScrollLock, and it includes the cables. (The cabling weighs about 10X the actual KVM ;-)

One small warning - a Mac cannot use the ScrollLock+ScrollLock keystroke to switch between inputs, so you have to be able to reach the physical buttons.

My only complaints are minor. One is that the cables come off of all 4 sides (which I knew from the pictures), making it very difficult to look nice. You might need some cable ties.

The other complaint is that all of the cables in included are proprietary on the KVM-side - you cannot replace them with your own cables or longer ones. Even the audio cables use a mini-USB connector instead of miniplugs (why?), and the video AND USB ports come off of the VGA connectors! However, this doesn't prevent it from working, but may be a problem if your computers are very far apart, since you'll need 4 different extension cables.

Overall, I really like the product: it works well, doesn't require additional power, and includes all of the cabling.

This kvm has the advantage that it only needs one single usb port on each of your pc to work. I connected a set of usb mouse and usb keyboard (both microsoft) to the kvm, and all was recognized with no problems. The audio quality is very good. When you switch, there's no beep sound (for me this is good). Also this kit doesn't need ac power adapter, however, there are some disadvantages that can be a deal-breaker for some. It inclues:

-if you have one linux box, the hotkey doesn't work and you need to push the button on the kvm to switch between machines. No big deal.

-when you switch, there is a delay, ie. you can't use immediately the keyboard and mouse, I guess that is because they need to draw power from usb port. This delay is about 5 secs long. I'm used to it now.

-on my windows vista box, I have installed a winxp virtual machine, and when I'm starting this virtual machine, the kvm switch automatically to the next pc connected. The same happens if I'm on Vista and focus back to the vmware window with xp. This is very annoying and the reason I give it 4 stars, because I use virtualisation all the time.

To sum up, this is a good solid and reliable unit, and supports usb devices, very popular nowadays. The price can't be beaten, so if you don't mind the little cons, this may be for you.

This little switch works almost perfectly with our Macintosh G4 Digital Audio tower and Intel Mac mini. Keyboard is the Apple USB keyboard provided with the G4; mouse is the wireless Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, using the USB Overdrive X driver on both Macs. Monitor is an old Radius 15" LCD with VGA connector, which is connected to the Mac mini using the latter's included DVI-to-VGA adapter.

Once, after using the switch to go from the G4 to the mini, the mouse buttons weren't recognized correctly. The left button acted like a control-click, and the right button was non-responsive. The problem went away after I simply used the KVM's buttons to switch to the G4 and then back again to the mini. This was an isolated occurrence.

The only down side is that the wires sticking out of the KVM are a bit messy. Since the KVM itself is quite small and light, the stiffness of the video cables and their weight make it difficult to keep it sitting straight in our preferred location atop the G4 tower's case. This can make it tricky to remember where the buttons are when reaching under our desk, and to find them by feel. Given how well the switch works, it's a very minor inconvenience.

After reading about the difficulties of finding a good KVM switch, especially one that works with a wireless mouse, I was a little nervous about trying this inexpensive product. I bought it based on my father-in-law's good experience with a Trendnet wireless router, and reading the recommendations here and on Apple's discussion forums. This has left me with a good impression of Trendnet, and I'd readily consider their other products in the future.

KVM itself works great, but if ur using a usb 2.0(powered) device, such as a lighted keyboard, or super fancy mouse, it delays when switching from one pc to another sometimes.

it also sometimes stops responding altogether, leaving u helpless aside from manually forcing your computer off, and repowering it, to attempt to repower the KVM.

All in all, it works pretty good, and since there are situations when u really don't have many other options, I would still reccommend it. - Kvm - Usb Kvm - Usb Kvm Switch - Trendnet'

Engineering - nspire, calculator

Casio has been upgrading their graphics calculators for years. This most recent release of the 9750 model- the Casio fx 9750 GII-

is a huge break through in reasonably priced calculators. For starters, it costs about 50.00. It is now a mathematical subset of their more powerful 9860 models, typically priced from 80.00 to 100.00. All kinds of data, from statistical to programs to matrices can be transferred among the various models. The output is identical.

The screen is highly readable in all kinds of lighting situations. The unit is a bit smaller and more compact, but the keys are

easily used. I actually prefer the size of this calculator to any of my other Casio and TI models- including the Casio Slim. There is a complete range of statistical tests, intervals, and regression models. The conics graphs have been expanded greatly. Using complex numbers is easily accomplished.

For short, this is the best buy I have ever seen in graphics calculators. If it's your first, you can't go wrong. If you already have one ( or several) get one of these. It is really fantastic!

Be sure to compare this calculator to the newest Casio- the Casio Prizm.

Prizm FX-CG10 Color Graphing Calculator (Black)

You may ultimately want to invest in both of these fine calculators! Casio Graphing Calculator (FX-9750GII-WE)

There are a few cons with this calculator, but due to the price, I will not deduct a star for them. For one, the print on the screen is not as pretty as a Ti and the calculation speed for large calculations may be a tad slower than an 84. It also isnt as easily programmable, but who cares? The functionality of the device is very intuitive and many problems can be done without the aid of the book. The way the menus are designed allows some problems to be done much quicker than on the Ti. For instance, if you are doing probability calculations that involve the combination "C(n,r)" fucntion, that function becomes one of the "function keys". Hence, every time you need to access that function within a problem, it is already there. On the Ti, that function is buried in menus and you have to maneuver through those menus every time you need to access the function, thereby making the problem more laborious.

If by chance you ever do need the book, which is inevitable, you will see the biggest area where Casio has a leg up on Ti. The books that come with Ti calculators are notoriously useless and are of little to no help. The Casio documentation, on the other hand, is extremely helpful. Functions are easy to find and understand. The book is well organized with easy to follow examples. Casio could teach Ti a thing or two (or a thousand) about helpful documentation.

For [...] bucks, this calculator is amazing!

AN UPDATE: I have been using this calculator for quite a while now and there is a point in my review that needs correcting. There are NO functions or calculations that are slower on this calculator than on the Ti-84. This calculator is quite fast and efficient. If I were to lose my Ti-89, my Ti-Inspire, my Ti-84, and this calculator, THIS one would be the first I would replace.

This is my first graphing calculator. I went through engineering school with an HP-41c, a great calculator in its day. But the Casio fx-9750GII is absolutely mind-boggling in comparison.

The learning curve was far faster than I expected. Once the simple and consistent navigation, editing, and execution scheme is internalized, one hardly needs the manual. Solving simultaneous equations, graphing functions, finding local maxima and minima, and computing intercepts of disparate functions were all elucidated in a few minutes of play, sans manual.

Mechanically, the calculator seems very well built; the case and keyboard seem like they were designed for the ages. The size is perfect. The display is very easy to read. And the price made me feel like I wasn't being taken advantage of, if you know what I mean.

I looked at several other graphic calculators, but this unit was by far the best value. It's got a great screen and I love the feel of the keys. Whether you're on a budget or price is no object, this Casio won't disappoint you.

Does a fine job of doing basic graphing calculator functions for those of us that don't need to do them all that often, and don't want to pay too much for one of the high-end teacher-approved TI rigs. Doesn't have all the features and functions that the TI and HP graphing calculators do, but isn't targeted at the folks that DO need them.

This calculator is easy to use, and even for someone who has never used a graphing calculator it should make sense fairly quickly. Graphs are accurate and easy to read, and in general the text also is very readable.

The only glaring problem I have experienced is with factoring. I found that when the calculator solves quadratic equations, the signs of the solutions are backwards. It's not that the calculator is giving you the "zero product property" terms -- it's actually giving incorrect answers, which are wrong by a factor of -1. For instance, in a quadratic with A=1, B=-3 and C=-10, the calculator would return a result of X = {5, -2}, when in fact the solution is X = {-5, 2}. I haven't tried this with other degrees of polynomials, but one does have to be careful if one is using this calculator to solve quadratic equations.

This is generally a good buy because of the ease of use, but paying less for the calculator means you aren't getting correct solutions for some types of equations. Honestly, I probably would not have bought this calculator if I had known that it would return incorrect solutions for polynomial equations -- especially if it consistently gets higher-order polynomial equations wrong.
