Ken  follett

This was written before the best selling Eye of the Needle back in 1976 and under a pseudonym. Follett considers it his best unsuccessful book. I consider it an interesting opportunity to see an early effort from a well known author. The story takes place in one day and involves about a half dozen people who have no idea how their lives are becoming interlinked by events. Were he to write the same story today, it would probably be tied together a bit differently and would be fleshed out a little more, but all the ingredients are there and if you have been a fan of this author, it is well worth your time to read this one. Paper Money

Follett writes an introduction to this book and explains that in this early novel the plot was too complex and their were too many characters that didn't get enough development. So Follett admits, this isn't the best book, but it was still entertaining, even if the end was abrupt.

The plot revolves around an British politician who is seduced by a young woman then blackmailed into revealing who wins a government oil contract. Also, financial wizard Felix Laski tells a henchman Tony Cox the location of a delivery of money to be destroyed.

The plot then follows the money being stolen and Laski wheeling and dealing to buy the company that won the oil contract. All of this information is filtered through a newspaper office where the reporters must decide what to print and what not to print. The only intrigue lies in will the reporters discover the scheme and will they print it, and will some of the bad guys get there due. For an early novel, this isn't bad, but is extremely obvious that Follett improved greatly after this book.

Paper money is short and good read for a Follett fan, but not anyone else.

We were horrified at the poor reviews for this book. It is our favorite Ken Follett. It seemed to relate to his frustation as a reporter who was unable to report a fabulous story which had been clevely discovered. We, also, were a bit taken back by the ending, since we expected the bad guys to be suitably punished - but as one thought about it further, they received some punishment, and the good guys came out OK. Follett is telling us this is the way it is sometimes. And the plot really is very subtle - the reader certainly is constantly amazed as the story unfolds. Follett's introduction, which was very helpful, suggested to us that it was one of his favorite books. If you like Follett, and if you are willing to allow a relaxation of the traditional thriller format, we think you will really enjoy this book. We certainly did.

For all Ken Follet fans this is a must. In the foward of the first American release of his first novel, Follet admits that he tried too much in too little space and made things way too complicated. However, Paper Money allows us to se an established novelist when he was taking his first steps and see what lessons he learned. If you like Follet, you will like this book. The same story teller is there. He just has learned to do it better and take his time. Avery short book with alot of story. Read it.

"Paper Money" is a Follett find. Especially for those who want to read everything Follett wrote or anyone who enjoys reading a good writer's early work. Originally published under a pseudonym in England, "Paper Money" appeared in the United States ten years later after the eye-popping success of "Eye of the Needle." This is a good enough story. Drawing on his newspaper experience, Follet tells what happens as the strands of a half dozen Londoners' lives intersect on one fateful day. Millions of dollars are gained and lost. Lives are ended and re-invented. Nobody escapes unscathed. All in less than 24 hours. But what's most intriguing is to catch glimpses of the vintage Follet that make his books instant bestsellers today. Characters, good and bad, you can empathize with. Page-turning plots. Small details that loom large. To be honest, "Paper Money" is not as good as what he's written more recently. He admits that himself in the forward to the American edition. But who would expect it to be? It's still a entertaining, quick read that¹ll leave you asking "what if" about nearly every character at the end of the day.

This is the first Ken Follett I have read and I understand it is an early effort. This novel is a wonderful invocation of London and various types that were around in the late 60s and early 70s. In a short space it paints a rich canvass of characters and has a very clever plot. The insight into characters and "the way things work" is sharp and the sex is well handled without becoming prurient. I was amazed at the talent here ("I normally read more "serious" authors) and this is a cut above other best selling authors I sometimes have read. I intend to explore his other novels.

Ken Follett won my heart as one of my favorite authors in PILLARS OF THE EARTH, and EYE OF THE NEEDLE. I was so intrigued, that I wanted to read one of his earliest novels. It was praised, by Follett..and he ponders in the introduction if he was "TOO CLEVER" in writing this book. NO WAY! Clever is not an adjective which comes to mind.. Taunted as a novel of international suspense and action...it was neither. It was flat. It was dull. It was booooring. It was fragmented. The characters did not make me care about them....and I didn't "get it" when it was finished. I knew what Ken Follett wanted me to "get", but I did not. It was was so trite, that it wasn't even a summer "Take me Away" type of novel. IT was a weak start...but thankgoodness Ken Follett has risen to the occasion.and become a better author.

The novel paper money is an intriguing novel which describes a single day in the world of a bustling newspaper company. Follet's method of character description and presentation in which he introduces each character in their their own light, is an effective, yet sometimes confusing way of developing the novel's characters. The novel as a whole is a refreshing story which is sure to delight, yet the inadequate ending of the book may cause its readers to yearn for a sense of closure.'

Canon L Series Lenses - canon l series lenses, 70-200 l usm

Pros: Lightning fast AF, Incredible Sharpness, Build Quality, Hood Design, Excellent IS

Cons: Price $$$$$, a bit big, a little heavy- not too bad.

WOW is all I can say. After getting over that I spent so much on a lens, this new machine is absolutely amazing. The image quality is top notch. 100% crops can be printed large and I can see every detail. I was in Miami and took some pictures of the big hotels, and was wondering what the names were. I looked at some of the pictures, zoomed in, and saw everything. Even small signs hundreds and hundreds of feet away. The IS adds a new feeling of confidence. No longer do you have to worry about shaking a tiny bit and the shot being out of focus or a bit blurry. Canon has really created an astounding piece of technology surpassing others(Nikon) in the lens market. The build quality, as expected from an L series lens, is made to withstand extreme conditions. The zoom ring is large and easy to use. The buttons for different IS and af/mf are easy to use/see. The new focusing distance allows you to get closer to your subjects, and can get quite close if some cropping is done. The Af is also excellent, and focuses very fast even in low light. Now, price... yes... I recommend thinking about this purchase for a while. 2500 - as of now, is a lot to spend, but if you have the money and really really want it, I highly recommend it. The pouch that it comes with is very nice and the hood is easy to put on and is a better material than other hoods. It does not scratch easily like my 24-70 f/2.8L lens hood does. At all apertures, this thing is sharp. If you are an IQ aficionado, this lens is quite a big step up from Mark 1 especially at f/2.8. For me, sharpness is my big thing, so I wanted the best out there. I did not want to step back in terms of technology and get the first generation of the lens even if it is still very good. In a few years if you decide that you want to sell the lens or change to something else, I can assure you that this will retain its resale value very well. I doubt Canon will be upgrading this in the next 5 years, so the sharpness and awesome Af will pay off in the coming days, months, and years to come.

All in all, the new 70-200 is quite a stunning lens which will continue to be one of or the best in Canon's lineup of pro lenses. If you want it and can afford it without selling your house, I would get it haha but as always, research extensively and weigh your options before buying something at these price levels.

I hoped you liked the review. More info and analysis to come in the future...

Check out my unboxing video here: [...]

Thanks

- Alex Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

The 1st version was my favorite zoom in my bag which had the 16-35mm 2.8L and the 24-70 2.8L because it was so much sharper than the other two. I was really happy with the 1st version and wouldn't have replaced it if this never came out. Now that the price has come down, about $130 from the original price, that should pay for a good B+W 77mm UVA (Ultra Violet) Haze MRC Filter #010. Don't gimp this lens with a plastic coaster from Ritz!

The image stabilization improvement is noticeable! Before I sold the 1st version for $1,550 (June 2010), I compared the two indoors handheld. I couldn't believe how 1 stop of IS really improved the quality and sharpness of the photos in low light.

With a crop sensor camera Canon EOS 7D 18 MP, Canon EOS 50D 15.1MP, or Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 MP, this lens is effectively: 112mm - 280mm.

It works great with the Canon EF 1.4X II Extender Telephoto Accessory, it brings the max aperture down to f4, but it is still pretty sharp.

Paired with a 7D or any other 1.6 crop lens, it will become a 156mm - 448mm lens!

I use with this lens with my 7D or the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. It works perfect for both and did not feel like I had to Micro Adjust the focus.

For 1st time buyers of this lens.

- Watch canonpricewatch dot com.

- If you never owned an L lens, you will be shocked at how sharp this is (then again, most L lenses should have that effect)

- If you never had Image Stabilization, this will allow you to take sharper photos indoors. It will reduce motion blur from lens movement, but not from the subject where the larger aperture has greater effect.

- It is weather sealed (you'll notice a black o-ring at the mount) - you'll need to add a lens filter to complete the sealing.

- You can use this for sports to portrait photography. For portraits, you get excellent bokeh at 200mm / f2.8 (the smooth background blur where your subject is in focus)

For those upgrading from the original Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, I didn't think there was much to improve on (I was wrong!)

- That lens came out in September 2001, so you are taking advantage of 9 years of technological advancement

- The buttons are designed better - I hated how I always switched to MF when shooting! This is now a non-issue (no need to tape it down)

- Second generation Image Stabilization technology that is silent, you could hear the motor sound of the gyro in the first version. You get 4 stops vs 3 stops IS.

- Improved optics - it has one fluorite and five UD elements for increased optical quality. You get reduced flare, which improves contrast (Your brain tells you it is "sharper")

- This focuses much closer at 1.2m/3.9 ft (improved by 8.1" at 200mm) - better for tight indoor portraits

- Focuses faster and quieter

- Larger focus grip area

- Improved hood Canon ET-87 - it has a lock that makes it easier to put on and remove. It has a different texture that is less susceptible to scratches.

- Bottom line, it is worth the upgrade, especially if you plan to keep it for many years.

Cons

It is expensive - but you get what you pay for

It is heavy, especially if you never owned L glass, but to maintain a fixed aperture at f2.8 throughout the zoom range requires lots of glass! Just stop being a wimp already.

Tips:

There are two modes of Image Stabilization: I rarely take it off Mode 1, but use Mode 2 if you plan to pan left or right (to follow a car or someone running)

The focus distance selector is handy, be sure to use if you find that it isn't focusing indoors, it could be that you selected 2.5m - infinity.

Take off the tripod collar if you hand hold it a lot - it just gets in the way sometimes. - Canon - Canon Lenses - 70-200 L Usm - Canon L Series Lenses'

Adventure Movies - 3d, dc comics

I dont understand why people hated this movie so much. I have been a huge green lantern fan since i was 7 so ive been waiting for this movie for 13 years. The visual effects were great. The story (even though innacurate to the comics) was good. Ryan Reynolds played a near perfect Hal Jordan. The only problem was Hal was kinda whiny in parts in the movie which he never was in the comics. Blake Lively played Carol perfectly. The only problem I had witht he movie was the fact it wasnt long enough. The movie was only 1 hour 40 minutes. To fit in more character development and more story it should have been atleast a 2 hour movie. Didnt get enough development on the other lanterns, and the only ones you meet are Sinestro, Kilowog, and Tomar-Re. Even then you didnt get much of them. They need to make a sequel and go more in depth on more characters........the scene during the credits set up the sequel beautifully. Overall I loved this movie I sat in aww with goosebumps the whole movie (maybe because ive been waiting for this for years), but it was a really good movie. People complain because it wasnt realistic and goofy.......Has a superhero movie ever been realistic or not goofy in some way thats why we read and watch superhero movies to believe in something unrealistic. Green Lantern (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy)

I'll admit up front that I wasn't that familiar with the Green Lantern character before this movie. In fact, if I hadn't have talked to a friend who was a fan of the comics, everything I knew would have been from watching the old "Justice League" cartoons on Saturday mornings -- the ones in which Green Lantern was just another random face in the crowd. At least he wasn't the Wonder Twins, but Aquaman got more love than Green Lantern on that show. Thankfully, my friend explained why Green Lantern is so cool. I mean, having the power to create anything you can imagine... that's pretty awesome stuff. Obviously, the more imaginative the person, the better, and that was my main concern going in to this movie -- that the things the writers came up with for Green Lantern to create wouldn't be that creative. But I think they actually did a pretty good job in that department. Of course you have to keep in mind that he has to come up with these things on the spot, without a lot of time to sit around and think about it. The movie does have its flaws. There are a few scenes that feel cliche and it could have used a bit more action and a longer end fight, etc., but I still found it to be a fun, inspiring movie overall. I loved the "courage overcoming fear" storyline. As it turned out, it was the best time I had at the movies all summer.

As a DC Comics fan, I liked the movie althought I thought the movie's ending was way too comic-book like with Hal Jordan and Parallax. My wife, who does not read comics books at all, liked the movie as it introduced her to the Green Lantern Corp and the other characters.

I will probably get this, as it was announced this week (week of August 21st) that the Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D releases include an Arkham City bonus of the Sinestro Corp costume for Batman. I stated the Arkham City bonus here, as I could not find a way of updating the product information with this.

So, if you're a Green Lantern fan and an Arkham City fan, then you probably want to seriously consider getting this release.

Green Lantern has received quite a bit of flak from reviewers for not being mainstream enough to relate to modern audiences. And that's a shame, because if Green Lantern is guilty of anything, it's of being a SUPERHERO movie.

Back before all these directors started streamlining films, revising backstories, and taking out Spider-Man's technologically-advanced web shooters, comic books were a glorious hodge-podge of the near possible, the impossible, and the just plain fantastic. Because superhero settings include every superhero and villain imaginable, they have to accommodate magic, aliens, superscience, and alternate dimensions in one heady mix. This makes for a very rich comic book series that can be intimidating for new audiences - which is precisely why movie directors cut out so much.

But you can't cut all the crazy out of Green Lantern and still stay true to the comics. And so, with tons of exposition, Green Lantern rabbit-punches viewers with world-shattering fact after mind-altering fact in the first five minutes: aliens exist, there's a giant yellow monster imprisoned in a planet, ancient humanoids predating humanity have been guarding the universe with green willpower, and there's a dizzying variety of highly advanced technical races from across the galaxy. Green Lantern makes Superman's backstory look quaint. His name doesn't help either - Emerald Flashlight has to say an oath that activates a ring that's charged by a lantern that's powered by a planet that's actually the embodiment of all sentient beings' will. No wonder critics got confused.

)o()o()o( "I pledge allegiance to a lantern, given to me by a dying purple alien." - Hal Jordan )o()o()o(

Director Martin Campbell knows all this. He makes fun of the ridiculous circumstances in which Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds and his fab abs) finds himself, ranging from a dogfight with two robot jets to a dogfight with a giant soul-eating monster. Part of what makes Green Lantern so entertaining is that it embraces its pulpy roots: there's the childhood sweetheart (smoking hot Blake Lively as Carol Ferris who just happens to be a successful businesswoman and fighter pilot), the nebbishly awkward villain (Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond), and tough-as-nails "red Spock" Sinestro (Mark Strong). The real villain of the piece, Parallax, sounds like a 1980s video game effect - oh wait, it is! This is not a movie to be taken too seriously.

)o()o()o( "It's not a magic ring--it's a ring powered by advanced technology!" - Hal Jordan )o()o()o(

And yet, Green Lantern is no movie trifle. The challenge with a superhero who has powers like Green Lantern is that the possibilities are literally endless - the rings are powered by the hero's will, which means he can technically imagine anything. This also means that an abusive hero might imagine black holes and solve all of his problems that way. Green Lantern cleverly constrains these god-like powers by imposing plot-related restrictions on Hal's creativity. When all Hal can come up with to stop a helicopter from crashing into partying guests is a Matchbox car in a ramp, it's because he played with one in his nephew's room the day before. When he's trying to use the sun's gravitational pull as a weapon, it's because he used the Earth's gravitational pull as a weapon against the two jets earlier and because his tutor Kilowog points out that gravity is a...uh, harsh mistress. Hal Jordan might always manifest boring weapons straight out of a first-person shooter, but that's because he's harboring a lot of guilt over his military daddy's death.

)o()o()o( "You thought I wouldn't recognize you just because I can't see your cheekbones?" - Carol Ferris )o()o()o(

Speaking of daddy issues, Green Lantern is one giant ball of forest-colored father/son conflict: Hal and his military pilot father, Hammond and his successful senator father, dead Abin Sur and grieving Sinestro, Abin Sur and the newly created Green Lantern, Parallax and his newly adopted avatar Hammond...it's clear the Green Lantern writers were looking for some emotional hook, and that hook was spelled out D-A-D. Green Lantern tries very hard to be deep.

Unfortunately, Green Lantern can be pretty shallow at times. Parallax, remember, is an ancient being predating much of humanity's evolution, but he falls for the oldest trick in the book. We're supposed to believe that Parallax really, really, REALLY hates Abin Sur and everything associated with him. After he kills Abin Sur, you have to ask why Parallax wants to go after just Hal Jordan when he could be eating so many other Green Lanterns for breakfast.

When Green Lantern goes big, it's glorious, but when it pulls in tight, the plot turns an earth-shattering battle between god-like beings into a schoolyard shoving match. But really, that's pretty normal from superhero comics. It's just that today's movie superhero fans expect a guy in a cloak that's just like you and me without any of the world-spanning baggage.

Green Lantern's guilty of being true to Green Lantern, spandex, mask, ring and all. For those who find it implausible, maybe a superhero powered by a jade-colored light source isn't for them. - Blu-ray - Martin Campbell - Dc Comics - 3d'

Screwdriver - screwdriver, magnetic

I'm a computer technician and was looking for a tool just like this when I stumbled upon it. Fits in pocket and offers a few driver options, and won't poke a hole in your pocket or pocketbook. It has come in handy several times when I have gone out on a call expecting one thing but encountering another when I didn't have a full toolkit with me. Don't worry too much about the minor magnetism in this case, as long as you don't mate the tool with a HDD or start playing the drums on one it won't matter. My only gripe is that the black coloring on the center Stanley logo wore off on my fingers within a few days use. I am satisfied with the low cost purchase overall. 4-in-1 Pocket Screwdriver

If you want to say thanks to the IT guy who helped you out, buy this! There isn't enough magnetism on the screw driver to cause damage to most modern computer technology unless you were deliberately trying to do damage.

This is a handy little screwdriver as the tips are magnetic and so far have fit most screws for which I have used it. The only downfall is the soft plastic that was used in its manufacture. As the handle size offers some grip for turning, the soft plastic reduces the effectivenss of that same feature. Despite this I will buy a replacment when and if I lose it as I tend to use this tool everyday at work and home.

My primary requirement for mini screwdrivers is they MUST be magnetic so small screws are not lost or dropped with installing/removing. Second, it must have several common tips readily available for most jobs.

This screwdriver fits these requirements. In addition, it is larger than most mini screwdrivers making it easier to use.

My suggestion for improvement is Stanley should offer optional bit types (hex/torx) and sizes, or as a more expensive expanded package.

This screwdriver only has 4 screwdriver heads to pick from (2 flathead, 2 phillips), yet they are versitle enough to cover most of my day to day needs. It's about the size of a large pen so it's easy to carry on your person or in your backpack/manbag (or purse if you are a lady). The body is plastic, but it seems pretty solid and of good craftsmanship. The caps hold securely when they are on and you can put them on the opposite end when you remove them to keep from losing them. The caps actually have holes in them so you can see which head you have on each end. It's nice to see little details like that. It makes it seem like they actually put some thought into it. Overall, I'm really pleased with this.

Seems pretty straight forward....as has been mentioned by others the this is good for light use. The plastic would be a little too flimsy to really torque down on something. (I am sure their is a metal version of this out there that would hold up better in the long run) but for the price this is perfect as an addition to my messenger bag.

I always struggle to find my tools when I'm doing precision work with computers, phones, etc. I can do most of my tinkering with this one simple tool. The interchangable heads are great and the tool, despite being plastic, is well constructed. I am happy I made this purchase. I keep it in my bag for all of those on-demand repairs people ask of me.

Its convenient and quite handy. I like its feel and I would recommend it for light to medium duty work.

Otherwise, get a stiffer version. The barrel/holder needs to be more substantial/harder for tougher jobs. - Screwdriver - Tool - Magnetic - Hand Tools'

Replacement In-refrigerator Water Filter... - water filter for refrigerator, water filter

I have a Kenmore refrigerator form Sears that I bought about a year and a half ago. Kenmore is actually made by Whirlpool and although the filter this replaced was labeled Kenmore, this is the exact same filter but labeled Whirlpool instead. I looked it up on the Sears site and they wanted $50 for the same filter. The price is a steal and even though it says 6 months I used it for over a year since I have soft water in my house and only one person. My fridge has a 6 month built in timer that goes from green to orange to red when the 6 months is up. I thought it might be based on actual usage, but it's not, because it went red at exactly 6 months and I use far less water than most other households. I have no idea why more time would harm a filter, as far as I'm concerned it's just a marketing tactic to get you to buy them more often then needed, like oil changes every 3,000 miles. Whirlpool 4396710P KitchenAid PUR Push Button Cyst-Reducing, Side-by-Side Refrigerator Water Filter, 2-Pack

This filter fits my Kenmore Elite side by side which takes the Sears 9030 filter and at almost half the price. The only difference in this filter is it does not say Stage II or Kenmore. The water tastes exactly the same to me as when I used the Sears brand and I am very aware of the water taste since we have hard, extremely chlorinated water in my area. I wish I had found these filters - 4 Sears brand filters ago ... serious $$$ savings!

This is a good filter at a substantial savings compared to Sears. It will fit into your Kenmore Frige that takes a PUR filter.

Some interesting Facts not all know: Why to change your filter...

Eventually the AC filter (Active Carbon) loses its ability to remove contaminants, because it becomes clogged with material. In the case of taste and odor, the time to change the filter is easy to detect. However, in the case of other contaminants, it is more difficult to determine when the filter is no longer performing at an adequate level. Most manufacturers recommend a filter change after a certain volume of water has passed through the filter. Some AC units actually meter the water and automatically shut down after a specific quantity of water has passed through the filter. A general rule of thumb for high-volume AC filters is to change the filter after six months of use or 1000 gallons of filtered water. Tests done by Rodale Press Product Testing Department indicated that filtering performance was reduced dramatically after 75 percent of the manufacturer's recommended life time. These results suggest that filters should be changed more often than suggested by the manufacturer. Some AC filters are claimed to last for five years, because they are rechargeable with hot water (145 degrees F). The heat is supposed to release adsorbed organic chemicals. Little information is available on the prolonged effectiveness of rechargeable AC units. General recommendations are somewhat useful quidelines, but there is no guarantee that they apply to any specific situation. Remember, the only certain way of knowing whether contaminant levels are acceptable or not is by having your water tested.

A sediment filter installed ahead of any AC filter will prolong the life of the AC unit. Sediment can easily clog the pores of an AC filter within a short period of time. A good sediment filter can be purchased for only a fraction of the price of most high volume AC filters.

The Bacteria Issue

AC filters can be a breeding ground for microorganisms. The organic chemicals that are adsorbed to the AC are a source of food for various types of bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria are those that cause human diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and dysentery. Public water systems must treat for disease causing bacteria; therefore, the likelihood of disease causing bacteria being introduced to an AC filter from public drinking water is remote. AC filtration should only be used on water that has been tested and found to be bacteria free or effectively treated for pathogenic bacteria.

Other types of non-pathogenic bacteria that do not cause diseases have been regularly found in AC filters. There are times when high amounts of bacteria (non-pathogenic) are found in water filtered through an AC unit. Research by R. L. Caldron and E. W. Mood (1987) shows little risk to healthy people that consume high amounts of non-pathogenic bacteria. We regularly take in millions of bacteria every day from other sources. However, there is some concern for certain segments of the population, such as the very young or old and people weakened by illness. Some types of non-pathogenic bacteria can cause illness in those whose natural defenses are weak. Flushing out bacteria that have built up in the filter can be accomplished by running water through an AC filter for about 30 seconds prior to use. Water filtered after the initial flushing will have much lower levels of bacteria and ingestion of a high concentration of bacteria will have been avoided. The flushing procedure is most important in the morning or any other time of the day when the filter has not been used for several hours.

Some compounds of silver have been used as disinfectants. Silver has been added to certain AC filters as a solution to the bacteria problem. Unfortunately, product testing has not shown silver impregnated AC to be much more effective in controlling bacteria than normal AC filters. Only in the first month of operation did there appear to be any advantage to using an AC filter that contained silver.

EPA requires registration of all types of water treatment equipment that contain an active ingredient for the purpose of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. Registration does not guarantee that the product is effective. It only guarantees that the active ingredient will not leach from the filter at levels that would be a health hazard.

Microsoft - microsoft office 2010, microsoft office

Purchase of a product key card for Microsoft Office 2010 saved me a substantial amount of money, given that I needed only one license. (The CDROM product provides licenses for installation on two computers, e.g., a purchaser's desktop and laptop.)

Office 2010 was not preloaded on my target computer, so I downloaded the software from the web site named in the key card instructions. To get the download, you must enter the product key, which is case sensitive. (You must use caps for the letters in the key.) The web site gives you the option of purchasing a backup CDROM if you're a nervous nellie like me. The web site also gives clear instructions on how to proceed after the download.

The software download (585MB) took about two hours with a relatively slow DSL connection. Installing the software requires the product key to be entered for a second time (include the hyphens). The installation itself took about 15 minutes on a 1.67 GHz netbook, which had a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 installed that needed to be removed. (The installation screen gave the option of removing a previous Office installation or leaving all or parts of a previous installation on the computer.)

As often happens with Microsoft products, the "installation progress bar" finished a few minutes before the installation itself was finished. The product then required a reboot to finalize the installation. For me, the only really anxious moments involved in the entire operation were the moments spent waiting and watching the screen while the computer was verifying the legitimacy of the product key. Microsoft Office Professional 2010 Product Key Card

I've had this 6 months...it's awful. It's like they fired the orignal developers of Office and said...here start new. The there is no continuity from an older version and this has decreased my ability to be productive...odd a it is supposed to be productivity software. I can't find much and have gone over to my old computer and old version of Office just to do quick things.

In a nutshell...don't upgrade unless you have to.

I bought this version of Office about a month ago because I needed to learn and start using Access. So far I am pleased with the software and am quite impressed by Access. What I am not impressed with is the extreme overpricing of this, and all Microsoft products by a behemoth software monopoly whose wealth is more than that of some countries. This is not the only, reason that Office 2000 was the last version of Office I've purchased until now. Overpricing and the ridiculously restrictive licensing and activation foolishness that's grown like a cancer in all Microsoft software products over the past decade, as well as most other software companies commercial software these days, make me glad that, with any luck, Ill be retired before having to purchase another version of Office. The product is good, but not worth the price. Shame on you Microsoft.

There is no reason for Microsoft to charge so much for there software. It does work good, but I hate to pay full price for anything. You can find it way cheaper on Google if you search "wholesale software provider" There is no point in paying anymore than you have to.

Shipped and received quickly. Installed without any complications. Love the interface improvements which mostly make existing Office capabilities simpler. Seems pretty expensive for what should have been a more modest upgrade price.

This product is an easy way to activate MS Office on a new computer. We had purchased a new computer from the local Costco for our small retail shop, and this product key card enabled us to activate the pre-installed MS Office suite. It took a lot less time than installing from CDs.

I've used this product (MS OP 2010) for over 30 days, on the heels of close to a year using IBM Lotus Symphony, (which has only 3 parts- word, spreadsheet, presentations) a totally free version of office suites, (based on Open Office, but vastly improved over OO), thus lacking in some utility, with only three of the segments of suites. For me, it is fascinating to compare the two. Both are sophisticated in presentation and function, generally. No comparison to Open Office, in sophistication and ease and especially speed of use. However, while I needed the multiple suites, Publisher, Power Point, Access, I am surprised at the lack of any superior speed (over Lotus Symphony) in the basic suites, the bulkiness, of Word, and while the IBM version lacked some robustness, and stability, which MS has more of, for all the high cost of the MS 2010, I felt it overpriced, in value, by at least double. Not an Amazon issue on price, but an MS issue. It is worth something over the Lotus Symphony, but not the premium prices MS currently charges, even the price for just one computer. Reality says, pay the piper. I did, and I'm only just mildly satisfied (and not impressed, at all) at improvements over Office Pro 2003, or so. Amazon is great, but I consider MS overpriced, by MS.

I believe more competition is needed in this market, perhaps IBM can show the way with further improvements. I am not a fan of Google office suite entries (although I love some of their products, especially Earth and sky, and Picasa, which are superb, and Google Talk, which is ok, (Skype superb)), nor cloud based systems of suites, since they are dependent on connections, for speeds, which will be highly and unacceptably variable for at least 5 years, throughout America and the world, can't work offline as well, and tend to a somewhat different look and feel, than Lotus and MS. And security, well, there is no security that is perfect and absolute, and cloud security has a ways to go.

Overall, there is tremendous room for growth, in most areas of IT, including office suites applications, and one product I'd like to see, is a way to have quick, accurate, and versatile speech translations that work, between two different language speaking nationalities, so one can carry on a two way speaking connection by computer based VOIP. I'd like to see accurate, dependable and versatile speech recognition to text applications, many do not even work well on quality telephone connections, let alone on speech to word computer applications. And my own speech is metered and un-accented, pure Midwest style, spoken with clear annunciation, as some people have exclaimed, like sounding like a TV news anchor, and saw major failure years ago of the over hyped speech recognition apps. - Microsoft Office 2010 - Excel - Microsoft - Microsoft Office'
