Photography Book - learning, photography book

This is my second book in Jim's series. There is so much helpful information and tricks to improving upon your skills. I'm new to photography but this book easy to follow and super helpful for both beginners but more adept photographers. Keep them coming!!!! Improve Your Photography: How Budding Photographers Can Get Pro Results

This is a good resource to keep handy. It's well written, easy to understand. I've enjoyed photography for many years, and think even experienced photographers would do well to follow these common sense tips that really make a difference.

I love this book. It is so easy to read and informative. Great for the hobbist. Gives you appo every beginning setting for any shot, you can of course fine tune but having a starting point at hand is a big plus. Also gives you a "why" for settings and methods, so you can become a better photographer through the understanding of mechanics. I will be buying more books from same author. Honestly, just read it.

I found the book very useful and easy to read. There was just enough technical information in the text to be informative without being overwhelming. I did order the Kindle edition of the book and unfortunately many of the example photos were missing (some were included, but not all). So several of the examples in the book would refer to a picture that was missing. These missing picture are what lead me to rate the book a 4 star instead of 5.

I'm new to photography, so I needed a book that helps me with my technique before I go pro. This book had some parts which I definitely needed to learn. Everything is very well-explained, and I was very pleased with how my first set came out. Definitely buying more from this series.

It was a welcome relief to find a book which was oriented to telling the reader how-to-to-it. It's almost like you and the author are together on a photo shoot and having his help in getting things set-up correctly. Great job!!

Core Training Ball - exercise, fitness ball

I train people for a living and have sent all of my clients to this seller for their exercise balls. Being one that works with different sized people on a daily basis on the Max Fitness balls, I can tell you that they provide a great product and they are very fast to get it to my clients. I own one myself. Thanks for the great product and service.

Jason P Max Fitness 65cm Exercise Ball with Foot Pump (Pearl White)

I first started using excercising balls at the gym, and loved it. I went and bought one.. and for some reason, it just wasn't the same. A girlfriend of mine also got me one, and again.. just not what I was used to.. then I ordered this one, and it was exactly like the one I used at the gym.. and cheaper than the other ones I had. SO, I highly recommend this. Read the directions and do do another round of air the next day.. its perfect.

I ordered this ball because I didn't like the bright colors at my local stores. I wanted something neutral that wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb in my home. The shipping from Max Ltd. was super fast and the ball was pretty quick and easy to inflate.

I actually bought this as a "birth ball". I'm 8 months pregnant and sitting on the ball helps relieve back pain/pressure, hip rocks feel great on it. Gently bouncing on it has gotten my baby down into position! I'll be using the ball during labor and after I have my baby. Babies love to be bounced on it and it's a comfortable seat to nurse on. I'll also be using it a few months after the birth to work out on and drop my pregnancy weight.

I am a certified personal trainer with 18 yrs exp.

That said, I found this ball equal or better than the physio balls at the best gyms in New York!

The pump worked seamlessly in delivery and a nice tight ball to greater effect the core musicle group exciting the nervous system...but I run on.

Healthy and Fit 2007 I plan to purchase this product again!!

So many children and even adults bounce on my ball whenever they come over and happen to see it! That's not what it's supposed to be used for but it just shows how sturdy it is. My friend who is probably about 250 lbs didn't even pop it.

I just got this ball and, when inflated it looks good, although maybe not perfectly round at first. The pump which came with it worked, but was kind of insubstantial as far as pumps go. The hose to the pump kept falling off and I had to put it back on several times. However, the ball did inflate within 5 or 10 minutes.

The ball needs one day to soften up before it can be completely inflated. After that, needs refills only about once a week, and I sit on it for several hours every day. Good choice at a decent price.

I like the balance ball though i don't use it as often as i thought i would. it takes patients to inflate using the manuel pump and my ball seems to loose firmness often. possibly due to tempurature changes. - Fitness Ball - Stability Ball - Chair - Exercise'

Nail Art Equipment

I am so glad I bought these image plates! I have tried quite a few of the plates in this set and have not had any problems with them. The price was irresistible for me, I will order many more plates if BundleMonster comes up with more designs. I do wish they had some larger designs that would cover the whole nail (the largest designs in this set do not cover my thumb nail completely)

*I measured one of the full nail designs and it was approximately 1cm X 1.4cm. Hope this info helps!

Helpful hints;

-Make sure you remove the protective plastic cover from the front of the plates before attempting to use.

-Wet a cotton ball w/ pure acetone and hold it with tweezers in order to avoid ruining the designs on your nails. Use the acetone soaked cotton ball to wipe nail polish off of the plates and stamper. The plate should be dry before applying more polish.

-Use a thick highly pigmented polish for stamping.

-Work fast! If you take too long the polish will dry on the plate or stamper and you will not get it to transfer.

-If you are working fast and the polish does not transfer try another type of polish, some polished are extra quick drying.

-Be gentle when you apply top coat or you may smear your design. Bundle Monster Nail Art Nailart Polish Stamp Stamping Manicure Image Plates Accessories Set Kit 21pc

I bought these plates because my daughters spent the night at a friends and came home with the cutest nails. When I asked about them their friend showed me her 'name brand' set that she paid about $50 for. It had two plates some polish, a stamper & a scraper. I thought it was adorable but was not going to pay that kind of money. Bargain hunter than I am I searched for a better deal. Which led me to Bundle Monster and another 'off brand' that I found on ebay for similar value.

I bought both sets. The received the ebay ones first. They were a great value came with some extras & offered cute plates (a few with the same designs from one plate to the next). They even offered the same designs and our neighbor girl had on her 'name brand' plates (none of which were 'full nail' or 'french tip' images). I was quite satisfied but have to say when I received the plates from Bundle Monster I soon realized I preferred their images better. They were larger for the most part & a much nicer selection over all (I hope they continue to add to their designs).

The ONLY Con I would mention is that the edges seem a bit sharp (compared to both the name brand & the other off brand I purchased) so I would keep them out of reach from young fingers even if they are just 'looking at the designs'. My teenage daughter cut herself on one not paying attention.

For those of you who are having problems with them here are some tips & step by step instructions I use (mentioned by others but with so many reviews I will post it as well).

Tips to Know Before you get started:

1) REMOVE the plastic film: They come with a plastic film when you first receive them that sometimes can not be seen. I used something sharp (tweezers) to cut a spot & then removed the rest with my fingers. If you do not remove the film the plates do not work.

2) Use THICK but NOT Quick Dry Contrasting Nail Polish for Images: If you do not have a 'thick' polish & do not want to spend $10+ on the 'name brand' let one of yours dry out a bit or go to your local salon that does nails & see if they have some 'old stuff' that you can buy for pennies on the dollar.

If you use quick dry you may not get the transfer done quick enough before it drys.

I have tried a few variations of colors but for obvious reasons white & black work best. A dark color with a white or light pink print or a light color with a black or similar dark will have the best results. Do some practice ones on something to see what you really like.

3) Use one coat cover for Bottom Coat & Top Coat: I recommend using nail polish that IS quick dry & only takes one coat to cover for both the Bottom & Top Coats (not images). This is because the more nail polish you have on your nails the more likely it is to smear your images. Using quick dry also helps with this.

4) Use a Good Acetone nail remover: It seems this works best for cleaning the plates. Some remover seems to thin out the polish & make it more difficult to transfer.

5) Let the Plates DRY completely: After each transfer you will need to clean the plate (if there is polish in the image you will not get a good transfer). When you wipe the polish out let the remover dry before you put polish on it. Again it will thin out the polish making for a poor transfer.

6) Use Cotton Rounds instead of Balls: Cotton Rounds make it a lot easier to manage the nail remover without messing up your nails. I use a nail polish remover with a pump so (one touch remover) I don't have to do too much with my hands.

7) Between EACH STEP let your nails dry for the best possible results.

8) If you don't have a plate holder (which I highly recommend) use double sided scotch tape to hold the plates in place on whatever you are scraping the extra paint onto.

9) I also recommend the two sided stamper with the smaller stamp. It is much easier to ensure the best image placement for smaller images.

10) If you have larger nail beds you may want to overlap designs. Everyone has different nail bed sizes so it would be difficult to accommodate everyone. With practice one could learn to line up the designs for a fuller image but I would recommend either using more than one design or just overlapping them. It can create a nice effect as well.

10) Clean EVERYTHING thoroughly when you are done: This will be important so that your future painting will be more successful & so that the plates, stamper & scraper last longer.

My personal steps:

1) Wash hands & gently push back cuticles that might be up on nail bed.

2) Get out all needed products & items.

3) Paint nails with bottom coat. Let dry completely (VERY important for best results)

4) Prepare image plate, image nail polish & cotton round with polish remover.

5) Working Quickly - Paint a nice coat of image paint over your image, scrape away extra, stamp with stamper, line up with nail bed, roll on fast, firmly & carefully ensuring you get the entire image to transfer. (If you have never seen this done check out a youtube video on it).

6) After each image you will have to clean the plate completely (especially if you are using the same image for each nail). Be sure to do so carefully not to smudge your other nails. Some recommend using tweezers - I find if I use a Cotton round instead of a ball I don't need to. Again let the polish remover dry on the plate before adding the polish again.

7) I recommend doing all your images on one hand BEFORE putting on the top coat. Just be gentle not to 'bump' them.

8) Once your first hand is complete put on your top coat & let this dry Completely before starting your second hand.

9) Repeat for second hand!

Once you get the hang of it use multiple designs & colors. We have used it to stamp our phones & more (and change when we get bored)

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did! All the little Girls in my life (age appropriate of course) will be getting this for the next 'gift giving' occasion!!'

Reconditioned Tools

I got this nail gun together with the 18 Ga nail gun for an exterior trim project. This gun has the sturdier gauge nails, but I was not as impressed with the convenience of the loading mechanism. Additionally when it got down to about 5 nails it would no longer shoot as the spring mechanism that pressed the nails forward (think like a desk stapler) would slightly tilt the nails. It didn't jamb, but you would have to load additional nails to keep going. Both products have their place and this is still an excellent quality nail gun, I would recommend it for exterior trim work or heavier interior work. Bostitch FN1664K 16-Gauge Straight Finish Nailer

What is this item? It is described variously as the FN1664K - new, retail model - and as the FN1664KR - used, reconditioned model.

The Amazon page title and the Product Descriptions describe it as a new, retail item, but the Product Specifications and What's in the Box identify it as the reconditioned item.

Tried online chat and called in to customer service, and one says "New" and the other says "Reconditioned".

So I'm just asking: what is this?

And for now, I am rating it 2 stars because no one seems to know what I'll get if I order it... Will update or retract if I ever find out what's really in the box.

My old nailer finally bit the dust, so I opted for this one. I was a bit sceptical on the "oil less" but tried it any way. Seems to work just fine, no jams and drives just the way you would want it to. I'm not a heavy user, but use it a few times a month, so can't say how it would be in everyday use.'

Ipod Accessories - in-ear, noise cancelling headphones

Recently my old Sony In ear headphones stopped working and so I decided it was time to move onto something higher end for use with my Zune. When it comes to sound, I have always preferred the best sound I can get for the money, as I have practiced when picking receivers and speakers for my home theater systems as well.

This is the first product from Klipsch I have bought but I knew of their quality before hand and that is what drew me to this pair. They definitely lived up to their name with these. I'll start out by saying that the headphones have absolutely amazing sound reproduction quality, though it doesn't have the huge bass "punch" in my head like my Sony's did, it is very balanced. Perhaps this is due to the fact I didn't put the headphones under a burn in period yet, so I will update once I have done that. The bass that currently there though is still very good and it compliments the very good mid and high ranges. In comparison, I have tried many other friend's headphones before and this is by far the best ones I have listened to thus far.

Second, the noise isolation is superb, I can barely hear anything when I have them in, so though this is very good in noisy environments, I wouldn't suggest taking strolls around with them in or running alone, otherwise you will not be able to hear anything around you.

Third, these headphones are extremely comfortable, even after prolonged use with them, you still only can tell they are in your ears because the music is playing haha!

Overall these headphones are amazing for the money, I would recommend these to anyone. 5 Stars.

UPDATE 3/9/11

After putting these headphones under a sufficient burn in period, I have noticed a good increase in bass "depth" and punch to my music, which makes these headphones all the better! I have let my friends use these over the past few months as well and they all tell me that they are absolutely blown away by the quality of these headphones. It gives a new meaning to just listening to music, its more like being surrounded by it, or as if you are in the studio while the artist was recording. Klipsch Image S3 Noise-Isolating Earphones with Patented Oval Ear-Tips (Galaxy Green)

Before I write something about the produce, a bit about my affiliation with sound. I am a guitarist, have performed on stage for small scale events in my country and hence I have done a lot of sound checks, adjustments on consoles etc. Additionally, I am fond of good quality music. But who isn't, right?

So I was trying to find a substitute to my over the head Sony MDR series phones, as they are too heavy to carry around in streets while walking and besides, in Chicago winter, your head is already covered beneath layer(s) of stuff.

I ordered these after researching for about a couple of months. When I received the package, I was excited. I opened the pack (which seemed at least 10 times bigger than what was required to pack them), and connected it to my Laptop right away.

First reaction: Shi! I waisted my money on this!. In audio terms, great mid, shrill type highs and totally third grade lows, and volume levels were lower than what I was expecting.

But I was still hopeful so I thought I should give some exercise to the Diaphragm of the phones and put them through the Burn-in process, which I did, by playing Bassy music for about an hour and a half (or less).

I tried them again...

Second reaction: Money well spent. The Lows were good, not too loud, but balanced. mids were, as usual, good, but I must confess, I think there is an extra bit of balancing required for the highs, which apparently are a bit more than required.

I am not sure about comfort as the plastic buds may fit different ears differently and one out of three sets should fit properly. Go ahead, take em out an experiment. I am sure you will find a comfortable size. Unless you have uniquely shaped ears.

Overall, I am enjoying my music (the one that I recorded with my acoustic guitar) and I would recommend this for anything less than USD 30.00

4 stars because obviously, there are better earphones out there with far more balanced sound and better quality and I personally don't have enough reasons and of course, money, to buy all of them.

Rest of the things seemed good and I like the pouch, although it doesn't have a lot of utility for me personally. At any given day I would choose better sounding earphones vs nice packaging and a pouch. Thankfully, didn't have to make a choice here. A good for money deal!

Just a personal thought : Try twisting'em inside your ear to know which position gets the best sound delivered. I personally like to place them in my ears in such a way that the wire goes over my ears. I think I can get more quality tone then.

The sound is fine, whatever. It's on par with the similarly priced Sonys. The main thing is that there's a lot of cord noise if you walk or run with it. The flumping will nearly drown out the speakers at normal volume. Not recommended for active use, but great for sitting quietly and not moving.

Overall, i think these headphones are great. they sound great, have good bass, and are very comfortable. one issue i have: the thin cables transmit a lot of noise, say, when they rub against your sweatshirt. My brother has the image S4s. no doubt, the S4s sound better, but he was really surprised for the value i got for half the price. For half the price i'd say i got at least 7/8 the sound. all that's missing is the clarity that the S4s offer. - Ipod Accessories - In-ear - Noise Cancelling Headphones - Earbuds'

Work Wear - jeans, pants

Bought a pair for work, which is currently a mixed use metal shop. I'm both a welder and a designer, and had until this point been working in whatever old, beat up pair of cargo pants happened to be around. As I spend part of my time welding, grinding, fitting, etc. and part of it talking to designers, architects and other clients, I had started to worry about showing up to their offices looking either like a vagrant, or like I never did any real work if I changed into dressier slacks. These, I think, bridge that gap nicely.

I like the double knee, though I've yet to try any inserts for kneeling. There's enough fabric/padding that, at least on fairly flat concrete, it's not uncomfortable for me to kneel for five or ten minutes. (30 year old knees in decent shape, your mileage may vary)

I like the slightly more broken in feel of these. The non-washed version felt a little like I might find the skin worn off my thighs at the end of the day.

As far as fit goes, I found the waist true to size. I ordered them a little long (I'm usually around a 31" inseam) because the description made it sound like they might ride a bit high, but I ended up getting them hemmed to 30 1/2", and I'd probably just order a 30" inseam next time.

I can't speak to long term durability yet, as I've only been wearing them for a month. Here's hoping.

I do wish I could get other colours from the same supplier, but, due to some kind of stocking issue, the brown pair come from one company, with reasonable shipping, while if I want a pair in grey to break up the monotony, the shipping, to Canada, will cost as much as the pants. I like them, but they're not $100 pants. Carhartt Men's Double Front Washed Duck Work Dungaree,Brown,38x30

I love these pants! I'd buy them again. If only they were made in the USA, and came in more leg lengths....

My only real suggestion would be to make a model that gave you the choice of flaps over the pockets. When woodworking, or stacking firewood, the pockets will fill with debris, they have big openings and are kind of loose.

Carhartt jeans are indestructable. I am very hard on jeans due to my work and these double kneed pants are great. I have some that are two years old now and still I'm able to wear them to work, the other brands were falling apart after 6 months! I was thrilled to see them offered in black and ordered them right away. Thank you! - Work Pants - Pants - Jeans - Carpenter Jeans'

Deep V-neck - v-neck, deep v-neck

I bought these in an XL and they fit perfectly. I'm tall (6'4) and XL's are usually a bit too short for me, but these fit perfectly, they're light, and supremely comfy. The Deep V is also really nice. I definitely recommend these to anyone who likes this style. American Apparel Unisex Tri-Blend Short Sleeve Deep V-Neck - Tri-Indigo TR456 M - 5

I love these shirts! I bought the unisex tri-blend in a size small and they are form fitting, but have enough space to be breathable. The deep v is sexy on a woman, but not revealing. As far as sizing, I am a female, 5'10" 140 lbs, 36" chest. Small was perfect. I have washed and dryed these as well and they don't shrink. Great product.

These shirts are great, they fit well, they're soft and comfortable, and made of quality material that lasts forever. I have three of this style, they're my staple tshirt. The sizes do run big, I'm normally an extra small, but the xxsmall of these fit me the best.

I like these shirts. Not too thick, not too thin. Perfect for spring and summer. The tri-blend material is very stylish as well. Has a good look without a logo. The deep v isnt for everyone and if its not for you look at getting some anyway if theyre on sale. They make great undershirts for theyre thinnesss and deep neckline. The crew neck version is great too. They will become a staple in your wardrobe if you try them. I think the tri-orchird color gives some real pop on a black blazer. The cut is great too. If your tall and thin they are perfect. A little snug around the chest and shoulders and a little long on the length. The tri-cran and tri-black seemed bigger than the other colors giving a looser more oversized fit that I don't like. I don't know why that is.

I have this in the orchid color in a size XS (unisex). For reference I am 5'4, a 34B, and 108lbs. It is a little loose on me, and I probably could have gotten an XXS and been okay, but I like it the way that it is. The color is fabulous and the material is so soft. The V IS deep, but I haven't had a huge problem with it. I have washed it with the machine, but have hang dried it. It has held up well. I love American Apparel!

Great shirt, flattering fit, and the heathered colors give it something different. The indigo is a deep navy/purple and tri-lemon is sage green with yellow/green flecks. The fabric is like an old, old T-shirt from 1980s. It will pill quickly, but somehow these pills are more appealing than anything...nostalgia factor I guess. I usually wear a small in women's tops (5'4" 120 lbs) and the XS is fitted but not too tight. The price on amazon cannot be beat! - T-shirt - Hoodie - V-neck - Deep V-neck'
