Garmin Nuvi - garmin nuvi, gps mount

The mount is short enough and rigid enough to hold the gps without any problems. The mount locks on positively and is light too.

On the down side the old mounts used to include the electrical connection, and the catch was easier to operate single handed. But that's because Garmin is making cheaper hardware now, so it's not a fault of the mount. But still, it could be better, so only the four stars. Garmin 010-11375-00 Suction Cup Mount for Nuvi 1490T

I purchased three of these Mounts. They work somewhat. Even on a clean windshield, and with a clean suction cup, it has been necessary to apply some liquid of sorts (spit, water, etc.) so that the mount will have enough suction to stick to the windshield. The mount will often fail and the mount and the Garmin will come crashing down to the dash (depending on where mounted) and possibly dangle creating an annoying distraction while driving. To get sufficient suction to attach the mount, a tremendous amount of pressure must be applied before the lever is set. Another point for consideration is that a person may not be able to get the leverage needed to apply pressure while holding the mount in place and then engaging the lever. On one of the mounts the socket fitting's metal spacer for holding the ball joint had to be physically beat into place so the ball joint would stay in the socket. During a two week trek the lever on one of the mounts remained engaged for several days while off the windshield. This created a pocket in the suction cup that did not return to is normal flat state. The work around was to release the lever and set the unit in a warm place (sun) for a few hours. This let the suction cup return to almost its normal flat state so the suction cup would work when the lever was set. That being written, once the mounts were successfully affixed to the windshield they worked great. If I can find another mount that will allow the Garmin to be easily seen and not block my view, I think I might try it.

Original one works great on dash. This one is for a second vehicle. Suction feature requires the included mount plate which is "glued" to the dash. Some dashes aren't smooth enough and/or firm enough for the suction feature to work without the plate. - Mount - Gps Mount - Garmin Nuvi'
