Chest Coolers
I camp a great deal and was looking for a cooler that will keep camp foods cold for several days. The importance of the length of time the ice lasts is crucial since I often travel to remote areas where the nearest store that sells ice could be 15 miles which doesn't sound far but when you have to make that trip every day or two it gets old quick. This cooler was the best of the lot from reviews I have read without spending $200 on a pro grade cooler. This cooler is ok - it will keep food cold for a couple of days if the temp is moderate and if you minimize opening the cooler, store it in a shady spot (not in your hot car). It is an okay cooler that will serve casual users well. I just might end up laying out the money for a really good cooler though. Coleman 52-Quart Xtreme Chest Cooler (Blue)
We live at least an hour away from the big box stores and membership stores and it has always been difficult to buy cold and especially frozen foods and get them home in time before they thaw out. This ice chest lives up to its name. We have filled it with frozen meats and even ice cream and let it sit in the car for several where it got like furnace. When we got home the food was still frozen solid. All we had to add was a bag of ice and the insulated cooler maintained a freezing temperature until we could get home. Certainly worth the investment!!
I purchased this cooler a few weeks ago. Since then I've used it 4 times and I've been pleased every time. The first time we used it was on our vacation. The cooler was filled with ice when we left and the ice lasted for a 9 hour drive on an extremely hot day with minimal melting. Upon arrival, the beverages were still nice and cold.
I also used this for a family party. I filled the cooler with ice and three cases of water with room to spare. The cooler sat on the deck all afternoon and everything was still cold at the end of the day.
The only downside to the cooler is the fact that it does get pretty heavy when it's full and there are no wheels. Something to consider if it needs to be moved alot. But, if it's used outside, there is a nice drainage spout so that would lighten the load a bit at the end of the day.
All in all, I highly recommend the cooler.
Just used for an overnight so far, but real happy with how cold everything stayed, with 3, 2 litre bottles of ice. Packaging was great, shipping very quick. Going to be some good cruises and camping coming up.
We took the cooler camping the same day we got it and after three and a half days we still had most of our block ice and even the ice cubes we took along for drinks were in great shape. Only melted a little. I would recomend it to anyone, as we have gone through a lot of no-good coolers in the heat of Arizona,
We travel to Hollister Hill Farm in VT each year in early October to purchase a yeary supply of organic meats. With 3 of these coolers packed full we meandered back home to MA and 12 hours later our meats were still frozen solid without the use of any ice. In summer months with ice, things are colder than with any other coolers we have used. Highy recommended!'
