The Toblino 2 Napa Leather case for the iPad 2 by Mobilevision is everything as described! It is made from real leather with a warm, soft feel; the stitching is even; the inside microfiber lining and padding appear to nicely protect the iPad; and, best of all, it arrived earlier than expected! As advertised, the cover does act like the Apple Smartcover in that it turns the iPad off when closed and then turns it on when it's opened. Considering this nicely constructed slim leather case provides over twice the protection for your iPad 2 (both the front and back as well as some of the sides) as compared to the Apple Smartcover (which protects only the front), provides equivalent functionality (multiple angle stand, magnetic on/off) without adding considerable bulk or weight, and is very close to the the same price ($39.95 for the Toblino 2 leather case versus $39.00 for the Apple polyurethane case), the Toblino 2 case provides more value for your money. we researched as many cases/covers as we could find for our ipad2, and finally decided on this one because of the stand function. it's great to be able to prop it up and play games, read, watch tv... not the best way to type but we don't type on it much. it looks much nicer than expected - looks very high quality. it's a tight fit, but not so tight that you can't pop the 2 clips off the side in order to prop it up on the stand. we love it & highly recommend this case.
I read the reviews of Toblino case on Amazon for ipad 1 and was waiting for the release of Toblino 2 eagerly although I got my ipad 2 on 15th March. This is exactly what I expected and what I waited for - a tight fitted yet flexible light weight case which looks like a folio. The napa leather is soft and has this simple yet elegant look and feel - not gaudy or flashy but just simply pleasant to hold and use. The soft microfiber interior and the proximity magnet (puts your ipad 2 to sleep whenever closed) are very welcome and useful additions. The case itself has tight hinges which firmly holds the ipad2 in place. You can also view and use the ipad 2 at multiple angles of tilt while in the case. One another excellent thing I noticed was that even though my ipad 2 has a clear screen protector on, while sliding into the case, the hinges didn't undo the screen protector at all. Overall I am very happy that I waited for this case and am very satisfied with its both its looks and performance.
I am very picky when it comes to cases. The Apple case without the back protection was no good. I bought a cheap leather folio type case with a built in stand but those cases cover the frame on the front of the iPad. I think as much of the iPad should be exposed as possible since it's such a nice gadget.
Then I went with a "gel" type case here on Amazon and while the iPad fit very snugly and was perfect, it wasn't tacky at all. It was just as slippery with the gel case as without one. So into the pile it went.
Enter this case. I ordered it figuring I'd return it if it wasn't to my liking but when I took it out of the packaging, I loved it right away. Sliding the iPad in I could tell it was going to be a very secure case. It was a tight fit but I prefer that over a looser one. The leather is nice, the magnetic shut off closure was a great idea and it doesn't seem (to me) to add a lot of weight or bulk. It's really professional looking when closed and sitting on the desk. Unlike the leather case with stand that I bought, this case has a cutout for the speaker, which is now located on the back of the iPad 2, unlike the iPad 1's bottom mounted speaker.
Now, the odd design choices:
1 - The slots were crucial for me and the first one has the iPad standing in a completely vertical position. I don't use that much and don't find it very useful. The second groove puts the iPad on a nice angle but for some reason when they cut the groove they did not give any consideration to the fact that the iPad is now on an angle so several times it has slipped out of that groove. Had they angled the groove rather than cutting it straight, it would have been much better.
2 - I think the lack of a third groove was probably shelved because had they included one that was cut straight and not angled, there is no way the iPad would remain in the slot. Again, a third groove could have been added had they angled the cut properly.
3 - Not sure if this is just the case that I got or if it's a design issue but there are four "clips" on the corners to secure the iPad in addition to the two slots that you slide it into. The two clips on the top have a fattish lip on them that holds the corners very securely. The bottom two clips on mine don't have any lip at all, so the corners just basically sit on them. The one that you remove when you want to use the iPad on an angled position is constantly sliding out of that clip. The iPad is still very secure but it's a little irritating. The outer clip doesn't let go of the corner unless you touch it but if you do, it pops out. Why they didn't put the fat lip on all four corners is a mystery. Essentially, you have one fat lip and one no lip to disengage in order to use the angled positions.
I have found that if you let the iPad just float you can press it down enough that eventually it will settle into a comfortable typing position. Not sure how sturdy it will remain but for now it's pretty good.
So far I love the case. It's almost perfect. If it had the fat lips on all four corners I'd give it five stars but since they are not there, it'll have to settle for 4.'
