I bought this in the hope that it would work with an iPad. It works like a charm to play movies or to use Netflix or YouTube.
It won't work to display your general iPad so don't try. Make sure you plug it in before you start Netflix or the movie or it won't work. Composite AV Video/USB Cable for Apple iPod, iPhone, iPad (6 feet)
Keep in mind this is a generic product (not made by apple). There may be many sellers claiming to sell the exact same item ... which is kind of true but kind of not, here is what I mean. They will claim they all sell a cable that looks like the one in the picture. The question is what circuit design did they use inside the cable. These video cables need a small circuit to work properly. If they are not build the cable correctly then the cable will not work properly. This is why you get reviews that seem to conflict as I am sure they purchased from different sellers, therefor each received a slightly different variation of cable. In short when leaving a review it is helpfull to mention who the cable was purchased from.
Now on to the review:
I purchased this cable from 'BrainyDeal', the cable worked ok on my iphone 4, ipod touch 3gen, and iphone 3GS. My only complaint is an warning will pop up when the cable is plugged in saying "this accessory is not optimized for this iphone" ... but the cable still worked.
More about the warning: The fix is fairly simple to implement to prevent the warning pop up, but I am guessing that 'BrainyDeal' doesn't have the know how or ability to fix the warning as I am sure they are just buying a cable off the shelf from a foreign manufacture ... if they did understand the product then the warning would have been fixed ;)

Update: the cable will not charge my ipod touch 4th gen :(
I have an iPod 3G, and the cable works great for items stored on my iPod. However, it will not transmit video from any apps to your television, INCLUDING NETFLIX. Netflix will only transmit video via cable for iPod gen 4 and beyond. This is not a dysfunction of the cable, but of Netflix software. However, if you rent a movie from iTunes or download episodes from iTunes or have movies that are saved to your iPod it works great! You can also watch slideshows of your photos as well.
Plugged my iPad into my LCD TV RCA jacks and didn't get video at first.
Figured out that it doesn't display the main iPad video screen, the videos have to be played from iTunes or iPod icon.
Tested with video podcasts and these play fine, though a bit jaggy because of the video enlargement.
Detailed instructions should have been included so someone else doesn't make the initial mistake I did.
I found the price attractive as an alternative to the Apple one.
However, two caveats:
- USB and other connectors cannot be more 20 inches / 30 cm away from each of them (so your TV composite entry should be very close to a power socket.
- when the cable is connected to the audio output and the power socket but the iPad unplugged, you have a loud noise going in the audio, signed of a poor shielding of the cable.
Tried this cable with my iphone 3gs running 4.1 and it would not work. Audio was being outputted but no video. I got the "This accessory was not made to work with iPhone" message. To make it work I had to install the 'resupported4' app on my jailbroken iphone. Might work out of the box for others but needed some tweaking for me. Works fine now with good picture and audio quality. Also, charging does seem to work through the attatched USB cable and iTunes seems to recognize it fine.
This product works great. I received it last night and I was able to watch YouTube, Netflix, and stored videos on my TV.
The only reason why I am not giving this product 5 stars is that it didn't work right out of the box. I just so happened to update the version of my ipad to 3.2.2 because I read online it was available. After doing so, it worked like a charrm. Would have been nice if some instructions came with it to let me know that the was required. I was very close to returning it before I lucked out on the upgrade fix.
After that, no complaints and have been enjoying it since. Good product for great price, especially compared to the Apple offering. - Ipad - Video - Iphone - Av'
