As I'm writing this the resplacement battery for my 4 year old Dell Inspiron is working just as it should: It charges and I get hours of use when unplugged. Actually, far more time than the orginal 6 cell battery. As long as the new power cell funcitons for a year or so, I think this was money well spent. Let's face it spending around $30 on an aging but very functional Laptop, so that it really is portable, is very appropriate. On the other hand spending 1/3 to 1/2 the original asking price of the laptop for any accessory is not acceptable. Who does that? Does Dell really sell those batteries? Probably not and that's proably why they're so expensive. Even if the replacement only lasts a year, I could buy 4 of these for the price of the Dell original equipment battery and am I really going to be using this computer 4 years from now. My advice, if your PC is still functioning properly but is no longer portable due to a dead battery, spend the $30. This product didn't work for me, and apparently I'm not the only one.
Actually, the battery worked for about four days. Then, somehow, my Dell Inspiron 6400 discovered that it was not a Dell battery, gave me error messages to that effect on start up, and stopped charging the battery or using it.
After googling around, I discovered that this is a common occurrence in Dell laptops. Dell laptops and batteries contain circuitry to monitor whether your battery is a Dell brand battery. If it's not a Dell battery, your computer stops using it.
Unfortunately for me I had discarded the box and packaging and as such was not able to return the item.
Perhaps your particular Dell laptop won't act as mine did, but I'd say you are better off not gambling. I managed to find online a new Dell branded battery for cheap, not from Dell. Go that route. And, next time you buy a computer, don't buy a Dell.
I should have followed the other reviews. this product (laptop battery) does not work in my Insipron 6400. when I first received the battery it worked well. now after less than 30 days. when I click on the power icon, it states it is 89% charged. when the AC power plug is removed. the laptop go's dead. it was a waists of my time and money.
Fine finish, good durability but the machine [DELL] has not the right time when it is nearly finished loading. And this happens only with this battery.
