I bought the tablet to aid me in using graphics software for college. (I've owned a wacom graphire in the past & loved it too!) It was a decent price and does everything I want it to! Mostly, Adobe products, but the Corel software it comes with is actually impressive for a freebie (tons of brushes, filters, and such! You can also use the tablet to write out items in a word processing program or even use it as a mouse. Which is great for me- ergonomics make life so much easier!
I highly recommend this as a starter tablet.. I see myself giving this to my son and moving up to one with more bells and whistles in the future.. But, for right now it's nice to be able to focus on the task at hand. Wacom CTL460 Bamboo Pen Tablet (Factory Refurbished)
This is my very first exposure to this type of technology. I am a very new novice with very little training and experience with Adobe Illustrator, and bought this product in hopes it would help me expedite drawing time. My initial impression is that it will. Therefore, for my purposes, this product was a good value in price and functionality.
Just a quick little review - I do a light amount of graphic design and art work, so I got the Bamboo Tablet. I love it. It's very easy to use and really gives the feel of using a handheld graphical instrument such as a pen or a brush. Advanced enough to do amazing things, but simple enough for a beginner.
I recently bought this tablet based on reviews and the fact that I was increasingly having wrist problems with my computer mouse and a trackball. The tablet is great and would have received a 5* rating if it behaved with more regularity. There are times it is not particularly responsive to touch and other times it is too responsive. Using the pen seems to work better for input but I find it a bit clumsy to put it down when I need to use the keyboard. It is not as convenient to slide it into the pen holder as it might be with a magnetic holder on the side and I intend to try that out as I think it would be less likely for me to misplace the pen when I set it down.
Every once in a while the touch pad would stop working completely and then I found out I was doing something with the pen which turned it off! (I think this was because of my settings) At least that was an easy fix. More difficult was the fact that going through the tutorial there were times I followed the instructions perfectly but the touch pad did not respond properly for many tries. I think I would really love this device if it worked properly all the time. Perhaps after I have used it for a while it will become easier but at present there are tasks that are faster and easier to do using the touch feature and it is a bit humbug to then have to pick up the pen to complete a task because the touch function won't work on it. Selecting a section of type to delete is the biggest problem to date and the pen selects it quite easily. I should also add that I did not purchase this as a refurbished product.
My suggestion to Intuos is to set up the pen with a magnetic holder and to perhaps make a small groove on the side so the pen sits in it easily rather than having it slide into a fabric tube.
Seeing that i am starting to travel more for my business the bamboo comes in great on the road. The Intuios 4 is what sits in the office and between the two there is not a difference that makes it difficult working with one and then the other. This is a great value! its funny because years ago when I got my first tablet it was really hard adjusting and in fact it sat in the box basically for months. Once I got the hang of it I have never looked back and VERY rarely even use the mouse anymore. This device is great for designers so do not give up and try your hardest to get thru the initial awkwardness with it.
The product is fine.
I had some problems installing the JustWrite Office software since it says it's not compatible with Windows 7.
I wrote an e-mail to Wacom customer service and they just wrote me back saying there was nothing I could do to install the software.
Somehow I managed to install it on windows 7 and on Office 2007. Works fine.
The product is great, the software is ok (it really needs an update urgently so it can work better on Windows 7). Customer service not so great.
I got the refurbished one, great product for the money I paid.

I got a reburbished one and it had some glitch where it formed thin squares on Windows XP when acting as a mouse. The company (J+R Music) I ordered from was prompt and professional in handling the return, though I did lose out on the postage going both ways. I have a few computers one with Windows XP, one with Vista, and 4 with Linux Mint 9. I got the Wacom Graphics Tablet because I read online that it was plug and play on Ubuntu and its derivatives like Linux Mint. But I found that this was not quite true, only the older Wacoms with serial ports are this way (even if you adapt them with a USB adapter, they are still plug and play apparently). The newer ones seem to have more complex drivers, probably because they do more than the older tablets, are still playable in Linux, but there are several pages of documentation about how to manually load them. I am writing this review 2/15/2011 and I find that Linux is evolving rapidly and may add new plug and play drivers to handle this later on, but at present it is not quite there. I have an aversion to doing manual loads of drivers, because a mistake may require a clean install of the whole OS to set it right. But there is documentation online if a person is willing to try. It looked like a complex process with actually two drivers needed and something to coordinate them.
I am giving 4 stars instead of 5, because I feel Wacom and other companies should really consider supporting the Linux Open Source community more, especially when Wacom is partly supported by open source software engineers already who took the time to make drivers. Some coordination between Wacom and the Linux community could have made some updated drivers and give Wacom a wider market than it has. I know I am not the only one. I was tempted to give 3 stars because of the product having a glitch and because of weak Linux support, but I wanted to honor the company J+R for its handling of the return. It was quick, smooth, and followed through, and makes we open to purchasing again from them. I suspect that Wacom is a good product even though I could not verify it with a functional one.
