Lg Optimus V
The Otterbox Commuter Case for the LG Optimus fit my Optimus V (Virgin Mobile) perfectly. The case consists of 3 parts: (1) black silicon rubber type "skin" that covers back, sides, and a small portion of the face of the phone; (2) black hard plastic "shell" that snaps on over the silicon "skin" on the back and sides of the phone; (3) a clear plastic-like material screen protector.
The soft, shock-absorbing "skin" combined with the hard, scratch, scuff, and crush resistant "shell" provides great protection for the phone. The "skin" contains covers (that fold back out of the way when needed) for the usb port and the earphone jack. It also covers the side and top buttons of the phone so that no dirt, moisture, etc. can enter.
The screen protector also does a good job and went on smoothly and without air bubbles. This was accomplished with the enclosed applicator card/squeegee (little plastic square used to push out air bubbles). The only complaint about this product is in regards to the screen protector. It isn't cut quite accurately. If you apply it so that it doesn't cover the earpiece/speaker there is a small gap between where the screen protector ends and the silicon "skin" begins, leaving a small crevice where dust and dirt like to gather. If you apply it so that there is no gap between the screen protector and the "skin", then the screen protector covers most of the earpiece/speaker. Fortunately, the screen protector is the easiest part of the case to replace if you don't like the way it fits. I kept it applied and haven't replaced it. It isn't much of a bother, but it could have fit better.
Overall, I think the product is well made and provides great protection for my phone. It feels really secure. Although I have not dropped my phone, I feel that the case would protect it well if I did. Further, the case isn't too bulky/clunky and maintains the sleek/clean look of the phone while adding a little toughness and durability. While the price is high for what you get materials-wise (a piece of soft rubber, a piece of hard plastic, and a plastic screen protector), the design of the case and the protection it provides are very good, and I am satisfied with my purchase. OtterBox Commuter Case for LG Optimus (Black, Retail Packaging)
I just put the Otter Box commuter case on my LG Optimus V. The screen saver was the easiest to install without bubbles of any I've ever tried and fit perfectly.
The inner silicone cover aligned perfectly and will allow easy access. The outer nylon shell went on easily and fits perfectly as well.
I think overall the case provides quite a bit of protection while not adding too much bulk. I'm in construction management so I felt like I needed something tougher than a silicone cover.
The only nitpick I have is that the outer nylon case is rather slippery. I may have rougher hands than most people but possibly about average for the typical purchaser of the case. It seems more likely to slip out of my hands because of the case, which kind of defeats the purpose.
I don't regret buying it, but I will have to hold onto it more tightly than if a had bought the twenty dollar cheaper silicone cover.
I did an extensive search and review of available cases for the LG Optimus S/U/V phone before ordering the Otterbox. This case provides the most protection of any case in my opinion. This is partly due to the silicon inner layer and ABS plastic outer layer on the sides and back. In areas where there is no ABS, the silicon is thicker to make up the difference. The close tolerances of the case package would also help dissipate any shock from a drop without the case separating.
Other cases where it is just another plastic shell on top of the phone, cannot sustain larger impact forces like this case (due to the multiple layers of silicon and plastic).
The fit and finish and overall construction is top notch. All holes line up perfectly, the camera and speaker openings are spot on. Some other reviewers have mentioned that the plastic on the sides are a little slick. I have not found this to be the case (no pun intended) and the plastic outer shell actually has some texture on the sides and another different textured finish on the back. The whole package looks really good in person.
I sometimes do 'go naked' and only use just the included screen protector if I need a slimmer package, like when wearing tailored pants for example. Yes, the case does add some overall bulk, but the case design is such that I don't notice and it feels like this is how the phone would have come from the factory almost. It they made a 'ToughBook' version of the Optimus, this case would be it.
I had a small issue in the past with a prior case for an Ap*le product and OtterBox customer service is excellent as well. They went above and beyond what I asked for.
This case is great. It feels durable, definately protects from just about anything. It does add a little bulk, but thats no big deal. The case has small flaps to cover up the headphone and charger ports. In general a great case, it fits the Optimus U S and V. It comes with a screen protector as well, which is nothing special, pretty standard with no bubbles if it is applied properly. Definately recommended to anyone.
I did extensive research on cases for my LG Optimus V, as I wanted the best protection for my phone. It was between this and the Body Glove case with the belt clip. I decided on this because it seemed to protect the phone better and looked sleeker.
Upon arrival of my case, I applied the screen protector. I had some old InvisibleShield application solution, so I used that to help me put the protector on. For anybody wondering about bubbles on their protector, spray it with soapy water (or InvisibleShield application solution, like I had). It works miracles, and I didn't have a single bubble underneath my protector. The only problem is that the screen protector doesn't stay attatched near the earpiece, but that was mostly my fault, as I applied the protector too high.
Now on to the case; if you are looking for the best protection for your phone, look no further. This is a case with two seperate layers. The inner layer is a very shock-absorbant silicone that alone would probably protect your phone against most bumps. It is smooth to the touch.
The outer layer that covers the sides and the back of the phone is a hard plastic that further improves the protection. It is slick to the touch, and gives the phone a great feel.
The volume, camera, and voice search buttons are all raised, and while it makes it a bit harder to press them, especially the volume buttons, they are easy accessed. All ports were lined up correctly, and there is even protection for your micro USB port and your headphone jack (a plus because my headphone jack broke earlier, and I had to send my phone in to LG for repairs). Also, for some reason, because the headphone jack is blocked, sound comes out the speaker less tinny and with more volume. I have no idea why, but I noticed this earlier without the case too. Just an added bonus, I guess.
This phone has been dropped off a speeding motorcycle, and didn't get a single scratch on it. The only complaint I have is that the silicone parts of the case are dust magnets. Every time I put my phone in my pocket, it attracts lint of all kind. However, that is simply remedied with a fingertip of cooking oil every once in a while.
Again, this is the absolute best case for your Optimus S/V/U. Look no further if you want the best protection with the best looks.'
