I bought this set to start learning carving but when i actually opened i realized its of no use. All the pieces were rusted and non of them were sharp enough to start on. These are garbage, from the plastic straight into the trash. There's no saving these as the metal is substandard and inappropriate for the purpose. Regarless of price a tool should be able to function as designed. These might work on clay, maybe.
This set has a good range of tools, but arrives only moderately sharp and appears to be just a little soft so will likely require frequent sharpening. That said, for a novice like myself who will likely slowly pick up higher quality (and more expensive) pieces as I develop a feel for preferred chisels and handle types, the only thing I could really see being an improvement at this price point would be a canvas tool wrap with slots for each chisel (to protect the cutting edges) staggered so handles are not all at the same height (so it would roll up smaller).
I used this set to strip an older, almost antique, piece today. The dresser was not in the best of shape as it was, but these chisels worked very well in the corners to remove the old stain and finish. Although, they did not come sharp enough and were not perfectly square,you can not beat the deal you get from this buy! A little fine tuning and they were pretty impressive!'
