I have extensively used the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Record Baitcast Reel for the past two-plus years for my Musky and Northern Pike fishing. The Record works great with many Musky and Northern Pike surface and sub-surface baits, along with deep and shallow running crankbaits. The Record's cast and retrieve is "silky smooth". The thumb-bar release feature works great for ease in casting. The retrieve, due to the combination of an over-sized reel handle and high-quality ball bearings make retrieving baits effortless, especially when you are fishing long hours on the lake or river. Other nice features is a magnetic anti-backlash drag which adjusts easily to the weight of the lure and a superior star drag system for fighting fish!!! I like to spool-up my Record reels (I own three) with 80# Power Pro line for Musky and Pike fishing. You could also use 65# Power Pro line if you want more line capacity on the reel. The only drawback with the Record reel I have heard of is from sporting goods shops. The Record reel is not meant to retrieve the new "high drag" double-bladed Colorado spinner Musky baits. This is due to the high drag "pull" of the lure can "burn-out" the gears of the reel. Their recommendation is the Abu Garcia Revo Toro winch Fishing Reel which has the 4.6:1 lower gear ratio to handle these high-drag lures.
