versapak vp110 - versapak vp110
Black and Decker has only one Versapak tool in their current catalog--a screwdriver. The other Versapak tools have all been discontinued. B&D sees profit in convincing its customer base of Versapak users to switch over to this newer NiMH based battery. But there are limitations to the gold battery. B&D does not provide a fast charger for the gold. According to B&D, a full charge of the gold in any Versapak charger--from fully drained to fully charged--will take 9 hours!!! When not in use NiMH batteries drain their charge much faster than the Nickel Cadmium silver battery. Like all NiMH batteries, they have a faster discharge rate than other tool batteries when idle. If you want a fully charged gold, you should charge the battery overnight or store it in its plugged in charger. The latter was recommended by B&D customer service, but that is not convenient unless you use Versapk tools quite frequently. On the upside, NiMH batteries have no memory problems, so you can charge them anytime without loss of power. But the gold battery is also more expensive than the silver. Our local Menards now carries only the gold. I assume the silver version is now discontinued. Menards priced individual gold batteries at about $18 plus tax. The 3 batteries offered here come bulk wrapped in plastic without the original protective caps to prevent damage. Vp 110 - 3 Versapak Gold 3-pack Batteries - Versapak Vp110'
